We thank you for joining us on this Thursday, October 8th, 2026. Me and you for two, those are the rules of engagement. Fastest moving, two hours in sports talk radio. And it's fast moving because of you. Great co-host that I have, 1-800-919-3776.
That is the membership number, the password, whatever you'd like to call it. To be involved, then this is gonna be two hours of therapy. I am sure and a lot of people need it and it's warranted. And let's get right to it as the Yankees lose last night. Score four to three to get swept by the Tampa Bay rays and lose in the American League Division series. A series in which they did not lead for one half inning. And I hate to tell you, they got beaten by a better team. Now the big question is, why does Tampa Bay have a better team than the Yankees? In fact, when you look at the eight years that Aaron Boone has lost in the playoffs at whatever round, he has always lost to a better team, the team with the better record, a higher seeded team. So that's almost understandable in a weird way. But the question is, why is there always a better team than the Yankees?
There is not one team in the American League that has more resources or spends more money on payroll than the New York Yankees. The other teams with the high payrolls are all in the National League. In the American League, it's the Yankees by a long shot. So yeah, they lose the teams that are higher seeded. But again, the question is begged, why are their teams better than the Yankees? Why are the Yankees with a $330 million payroll not better than the Tampa Bay rays? Why? Why the race better? What happened in this series is unacceptable. It is a massive embarrassment. And now you have to start asking why. I've long defended this organization and told you how tough it is to be a really good team every single year.
And to make the playoffs almost every single year. I've long said that. And I know that you've all been angered by what I feel is just my honesty that I'm not on your side on some things. And that's fine. That's the price of fish, I guess. But 17 years without winning a championship is unacceptable with the amount of money that the organization pours into the league. It's unacceptable. How do you go 17 years if you're the New York Yankees and not win a championship? You've been to one World Series and lost that in five games to the Dodgers. And I don't just poo poo go into the World Series no matter what route you take. They got to a World Series, but they lost. They have not won a World Series since 2009 to put that into proper perspective. The Kansas City Royals have won a World Series since the last time the Yankees won one.
So there has to be a deep dive on why this happens. Why is this happening and why is it accepted? I don't think we can go back to the days of George Steinbrunner saying World Series or bust. Because I don't think it says realistic as it was when he was alive. There are more layers to it. There are penalties going over certain tax thresholds. I'm not going to get into the minutiae and bore you. But no championships in 17 years when the Steinbrunner family has spent billions of dollars of payroll, billions of dollars on payroll during that time. It's unacceptable to go that long without winning a title.
Now I know that each and every one of us, including me as a broadcaster of the team, we were completely spoiled by what happened in the mid-90s. It was such a wondrous time. It was such an unbelievable team. And so we thought, well, this is the way life is going to be from now on. And I think what we felt will realize is how difficult that was to achieve, to have all of those players, right at the same time, stay together for as long as they did, and real off those championships. So no one is saying that the Yankees should be winning four out of five World Series. I'm not saying that because again, it's a different time. But there is now one cogent explanation that could be put forth that would tell you that they should not have won a championship in 17 years.
It's one of the longest stretches in the history of this organization, which began in 1903. And it's not like the owner decided to get cheap. It's not like they've cut budget. They remain one of the top spenders in all the baseball. So the money is not being spent as well as should be spent. So what should happen here is that they've got to recalibrate. Whether it's Brian Cashman and his staff or whoever's going to make those decisions, they've got to recalibrate what they look at and deem important. Because they've made some glaring mistakes in putting together this roster. They've got to think outside the box and they've got to get rid of some things that I think they hold firm with.
You know what? If it looks good on a spreadsheet, it's going to we'll figure it out here. No, no. Joey Gallo was their perfect player. It didn't work out. He wasn't meant to play here. Jazz Chisholm has a world of talent. But there were issues of why jazz chisholm with such a world of talent was actually available. And you got to say no, we can't fix that. No, we can't make that work in Yankee Universe. They should be ahead of the curve. They've got really smart people working in the front office. A caller said this yesterday they shouldn't be chasing the new thing. They should be dictating the new thing. Getting Ryan McMahon turned out to be a bad move. And I said it during the off season. And I actually got into an argument with Brian Cashman about it.
Giving the qualifying offer to Trent Grisham was a mistake. And that old adage that everybody gives me. Well, there's no sense as a bad one year contract nonsense. When you have a payroll, a limitation on what you could spend, whether it's $330 million or not, there's a stop point. And if you're spending $22 million on an incredibly flawed player, that's $22 million that you could have spent on something else. So there are such things as bad one year contracts. There are such things. So I don't understand how this is happening. I tip my cap to them being in the past every year. I tip my cap to them having a chance to win a World Series every year. But the cap tipping stops because they have a one one.
Now, if you do a data search at no point. Is there any record of Brian Cashman ever saying that the plaza or crapshoot. But how Steinbrunner has said that Brian has told him that the plaza or crapshoot. So I've never read anything or heard anything where that came out of Brian's mouth. But maybe Brian said it. To how and how said that Brian said the plaza or crapshoot. It's not good enough to make it less of a crapshoot. The Dodgers are made less of a crapshoot. So they must recalibrate how they're doing business. The players that they're saying, okay, this is perfect. It hasn't been perfect. It takes a certain amount of innards in a man to perform at a high level in this city with this fan base.
And I know that that's one of the toughest things that analytics deals with because they cannot put a number on guts and heart. They don't they don't know how. And the egg is doing play a lot of boots on the ground scouts. And you've got to look deeper into would just just work here. Is Joey Gallo the type of guy that is going to prosper here? I'm just throwing those two out. Because there's a certain type of player. That rises up in big moments. I saw a quote in Joel Sherman's column from Carlos were done. And he said it's high stakes games.
And it seems like we don't perform in those moments. And we're trying to find out why are you getting the wrong people? Why are the people on the team not performing in those moments? And if you find out the reason don't get those people no matter how sexy they look on a spreadsheet. You know the old phrase today the word that we use is DAWGS dogs. That's what they need. It was a dog. Tino Martinez. Same thing. Paul O'Neal. Derek Jeter. Jorge Posada. They would kill to win big games. And they would be slayed when they lost games. Scott Brocius it his own way was a dog. Maybe it was the perfect alignment of planets that they were able to put together such a wondrous team back then.
And I'm not asking. I'm not asking. To win four championships in five years. But none in 17. None in 17. It's incomprehensible. And I just don't buy into. I just will not buy into that as a crapshoot. Why is a crapshoot always play against the Yankees rather than in favor of them? Because you would think a crapshoot would play in your favor in 17 years. It's not that random that it's always against you. And you can't tell me about injuries either every team has injuries. The Dodgers are in the National League Championship Series again. Check out how many injuries they've had this year.
Otoni has gone down. Snell has gone down. Glaznau has gone down. Edwin DS has gone down. You got to play through it. You have to play through it. So obviously you can't put. Rose colored glasses on and say. Well, they didn't have Aaron judge. They still won 93 games. And they won 93 games with Aaron playing in 66 of the 161 games. 66. So they were able to win 93 games essentially without him. So we're not going to blame this sweep that Aaron judge wasn't there. I think that's disingenuous. I think for the whole season, yeah, you can make a point. Maybe they have 100 wins with Aaron judge winning his third straight MVP. But everybody has injuries.
And sometimes, you know, we we sit back and we. We say, well, Yankee fans, you know, their expectations are too high. No, they're not. No, they're not. Yankee fans expectations are not too high. Yeah, maybe we, you know, we we were hypnotized in the thinking that it was going to be 96, 98, 99, 2000 all the time. Okay, I get that, but their expectations are not too high. They pay top dollar to watch their team. And they expect a championship in 17 years. They're not asking for 10 of them, although I'm sure they like it. And then you come out against Tampa Bay. And you get swept. You get one hit in the first game. You make four hours in the second game. Yesterday was probably the best game they played.
And they still fell short. People come to this radio show. And they want me to have all the answer. I don't have the answers. And they always want me to agree with them. And if I don't agree with them. Well, then I'm on the payroll. I have no guts. I'm in cashmonds pocket. I'm afraid of. I love that one too. I'm afraid of Brian Cashman. How what? Why would I be afraid of Brian Cashman? I've known Brian Cashman 40 years. He does not have control of my job at all. At all. If I say something that he doesn't like, you know what? He's mad enough to pick up the phone and will have an ice spirit argument about it. But Brian Cashman is not in my line of authority. Brian Cashman can't have me fired. Why would I be afraid of him?
And I do intend that for the most part he's done a very good job. But over the last 17 years, there's something missing in the sauce. And if Brian's going to be the guy moving forward, he's got to find out what that something is. Because you can't continue to pursue the same sorts of players and expect them to show up in big moments when they haven't in the past. There's no Bernie Williams on this team. There's no Mariana Rivera. There's no Andy Pettit. And again, those are all time greats. But the people that you're bringing here don't seem to be able to step up in the big moment. This is Broadway. This is not the dinner theater in in Branson. There are people like it's seeing great at Dollywood, but they might not sing great at the Winter Garden.
This is the highest level of intensity and being under the microscope as anywhere in this world. And it takes a certain sort of stomach to step forward and be great. And they have not found the right formula. And I'll repeat it again. Everybody wants to kill Boone. Everybody wants to fire Caspon. But Boone in eight times to the playoffs has never lost to a team that's rated lower than his team. Every one of the eight times he's been knocked off by a team that's better. So the question then is why is any team better than the Yankees, especially an American league? Why? It should be unacceptable. And it shouldn't just be while they made the playoffs. There's something to be said for making the playoffs because a lot of teams don't even with high payrolls.
But the bottom line is this. The championship is the goal. You can't say championship or bust. You can't because I think it's unrealistic. But you can say I got to get a couple of championships in 17 years or bust. There's something wrong with the recipe. And the recipe that they are stewing up all the time has to be changed. So all the algorithms, all the numbers that are thrown into computers to find the perfect players, they have to be changed. You can't chase the same sort of player and expect that player to be different than the ones that failed in the past. And I don't use the word failure for seasons. I have too much respect and how hard it is to play that game. But boy, I can come out and say what happened yesterday and what happened this postseason is a massive disappointment.
These are the New York Yankees. This is one of the greatest franchises in the history of sports around the world. In his 27 titles, they've been stalled on 27 titles since 2009. That's unacceptable. So if House Timebird is going to keep the same people in charge, and my gut feeling is he probably is, then you have to sit down and say, there's got to be a better way to skin the cat. There's got to be a different way and we've got to accentuate different things in the players that we acquire. Because what Carlos Rodón said is such an indictment. It seems like we don't perform in these moments. No numbers I don't think are going to answer that because numbers wise, the Yankees assembled an unbelievably outstanding pitching staff.
starters off the charts, Cam Schletler, probably going to get unanimous sigh young award. Ben Rice was great. But there are enough players that it just doesn't work. It's not working. Sweeping the Red Sox and scoring 18 runs in those two games in retrospect. You know what? It's not enough. The Red Sox aren't good. And now when you hear all the post-mortem coming from Boston, they realize they're not good. So you can't hang your hat on beating the Red Sox in the last two years. You simply can't. But why was Toronto better than the Yankees last year? And they were. They were higher seed. And why the Tampa Bay race better than the Yankees? Why? Why are they higher seed?
Why the Yankees in the last 12, 13 years only finished first in the American League three times? Why? They have more resources than any of the teams in their division. With a $330 million payroll, there shouldn't be this many holes. There shouldn't be this many question marks. You shouldn't be losing in the playoffs every single year. Once again, I'm not smart of to tell you what the changes should be. But there have to be changes of the way and the type of players that you get. You can't just acquire anybody that has talent and say, well, I will make it work. No, you won't. You can't force a square peg into a round hole. And I know that jazz chism has a world of talent.
It's not working here. It's not working here. I don't just want to jump him, but sometimes it doesn't work. You want to get Ryan McMahon. You know what? It didn't work. Because the selling point on Ryan was he was an outstanding third baseman. If you watched every inning of every game like I did, he was not outstanding this year. He makes some outstanding plays, but there was no consistency. So over his previous three seasons, I think I read a stat where he was plus 55 defensive runs saved. That's elite. This year minus three defensive runs saved. And you keep telling me while the metrics are wrong on Trent Grisham, he's a good center fielder. He wasn't a good center fielder last year and he wasn't won this year. Every metric that you look at tells you he's not a good center fielder. Everyone.
Getting swept by the Tampa Bay race is not good. And that's no disrespect to the race. And you know what else should really infuriate the Yankees? The players and everybody involved. There are too many damn celebrations on that sacred turf at a hundred and sixty first and river. It should sick in everybody. To see the race jumping around on the infield spraying champagne and then their players mocking John Sterling by saying, oh Yankees lose. You can't have that. The Dodgers celebrated their championship on that sacred turf. What are we doing at some point? It's got to be enough at some point you've got to say no this can't go on anymore. I feel sorry for the the visiting clubhouse manager Luke. There been so many champagne celebrations in that visiting clubhouse. He asked he and the staff have to clean it up.
Goodness gracious. You got to stop accepting say all it's a crapshoot. And again, I've never seen or heard Brian say that, but it's out there. It's not a crapshoot for certain teams. You've got to change the formula. You've got to put different numbers in the machine. You've got to spit out different sort of players that can play here and succeed here. Because 17 years of failing to win a world series tells you something is slightly off. Something slightly off. You've gotten to the American league championship series three times in that stretch. You won one of them and then you lost to the Dodgers in 2024. Joe Gerardi's last year you went to game seven of the ALCS against the Astros. And you said, well, we've got to make a change because he seemed to be he was he was the issue.
He was the issue. Now, whether or not he was well, okay. So you brought in Aaron Boone and they still have in one or world series. So at some point, don't you agree? Even if you're a supporter of Brian Cashman, the way I am, something has to change. The way they do business has to change. The things they deem important, maybe have to be recalibrated, maybe. Because 17 years and don't tell me, well, the meds have been once since 86. This isn't the meds. This isn't this isn't about litigating the meds and their struggles. This is the Yankees. And by the way, since 2009, the meds have been in the same amount of world series as the Yankees with all of their issues. This is about the Yankees.
This is about the Tiffany franchise and all of sports, not winning a championship in 17 years. And spending billions of dollars on payroll and so much more money that we don't even know about on behind the scenes stuff where the players have the best of everything. They had the best mental coaches. They had the best physical trainers and stuff like that. They had the best of everything, the best facility at Yankees stadium, the best spring training site, the best facility down in Tampa for all the minor leaguers. They are no expense. So on top of the billions that you spent on payroll, all the hundreds of thousands and millions that you spend on support stuff and they still have not won one championship in 17 years. And everybody in the organization could be mad at me for saying this right now. Call up and tell me why you're mad. Tell me where I'm wrong. Please tell me where I'm wrong.
How it's justifiable that you have not won one title in 17 years. I'd like to hear the argument. Where am I off? Where am I off on this? Zero for 17 for the New York Yankees. Make it make sense. I can't. And when you say, well, what changes should they make? I don't know. That's not my job. That's at a much higher level pay wise than I have. I'm not, I'm not entrusted with running the Yankees. I'm just an observer who sees every pitch of their games. They give you an exciting season every single year. And then we have this kind of post mortem every single year. Why? Again, not my, not my job to tell you why. If somebody else's job to figure out what has to change because something has to change.
Because when you keep doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different result. That's the definition of insanity. And when you read anti social media, there's a lot of Yankees fans that are on the precipice of insanity right now. They cannot believe what they just see. Let's talk about it. Didn't have a lead for a half inning. Not even a half inning in three games against Tampa Bay. Now one lead. And I know Tampa Bay higher seed. But also just rolling the dice. Don't you think that maybe you'd knock off one higher seed? In the last eight trips to the post season one. Hasn't gotten the formula is wrong. The recipe is skewed. It's got to be changed. You can't keep doing the same thing and valuing the same things in players and expect those players to perform at a level that they have never performed before.
Let's talk about it. The case show we roll until three o'clock right here in ESPN, New York. Need parts fast. O'Reilly auto parts as fast. Need them now. We've got now. I'm going to turn out these record numbers. I mean, eye opening numbers that we're even stunned at that are consuming this show. Just go see Yankees go away. There's me and you go away. You stay here because we always have provocative guests and thoughts and things like that. Right now, the most provocative thing is the Yankees going out in the postseason again. I'm sure you all watched the Boone Pressure on the Yes Post Game show. That was a broken man and he said the clubhouse was broken too. They're not not succeeding because of lack of care. They care a lot. That clubhouse was funeral yesterday because the last game like players don't react the same way fans react after tough loss on July 10th.
They just don't seasons too long. They can't have that up and down like that. But when it's officially over, they're crushed. They're crushed. Even the ones that you hate. Even the ones that didn't come through. It's a long season. The pitchers report to spring training on Valentine's Day or a couple of days before. That's a long time. There are hardly any days off and I'm not having a pity party for anybody because they live a great life. But they pour a lot into this and you can just see boons or a broken man. He's trying to figure out why he's not the happy manager and the happy team at the end of the year. He hasn't been in his nine seasons and the Yankees haven't been the happy team in 17 years and $4 billion in salary over that time. $4 billion. I know there's a segment of people that now wager say, well, how is cheap?
He's just running this team for profit. Of course, he's running it for profit. It's a business. He's not cheap. He's not cheap. And somebody on anti social media said, well, you say what happened in the 90s can't be done again. Well, the Dodgers are doing it. Yeah, the Dodgers are playing on a playing field that nobody else is playing on. No one. No one in the game is playing on. I'm sure that, you know, if House timer to signed off on a $450 or $500 million expenditure in his business, yeah, maybe they could maybe. But the Dodgers have missed out a lot too until they won these last two championships. The only championship they had for all of the billions of dollars, they spent was the, the COVID championship, which I don't discount because it was hard playing that year. But only last two years where they squeaked by certain teams now they're going to have the real test with Milwaukee. Yeah, they are trying to put together with the Yankees, but what they're doing. I don't think anybody else could do.
I think the meds could do it. The Phillies can do it. The Yankees aren't going to do it. Nobody is going to spend that kind of money. The Dodgers and, you know, they're being investigated for things about the deferred money and where's the money coming from and insurance stuff that's way too complicated for me to even expound on. But they're doing stuff that other teams can do. And maybe they're reap reaping the benefits of it. Let's go to the phones. 1-800-999-3776. Let's go to Al and the Bronx, start it off with Al. Hello, Al. Hey, Michael, a good afternoon. I got a couple of points that I got a couple of points that I really need to get across. And the first point I'm going to start with is the disappointment that we have with this season, but the bigger disappointment is the Yankees. I am from the Bronx. I grew up with the lights of the Yankees stadium out of my window. 32 years up in the Yankees. They were blowing with two innings to go down one.
How do you think the players in the clubhouse felt when they sort of amazed getting food off the field and an elimination game where they still had an opportunity to win. Part of the blame while we can't have players that succeed is the attitude of the Yankees. Anybody could say whatever they want, but these people are still human beings. And if you can play in Tampa Bay or you can play in San Diego, you can play anywhere else in the league, but you can't play in New York, that's a disadvantage that we create for the play. So changing the system in the way we get players, it doesn't matter because we pick from a smaller pool of players because how many players in the league can actually win through that stuff. I listen to the the booing that you're talking about. It was to two specific players that have had terrible seasons. Jazz Chisholm and Trent Christian. And that came in the seventh inning. Jazz fouled out to first base. He got booed.
Trent Christian struck out looking part of his 0 for 5 and he got booed. Ben Rice struck out to end the inning. He did not get booed. I was at that ballpark. He did not get booed. You know why? Because there's nothing to boo him about. He had 41 home runs 97 runs batted in. He's going to be top five in the MVP. He had a unbelievable season. I'm hard pressed to like criticize Yankees fans for booing players. It just didn't perform all year. This is different than booing a player on opening day. Now that's uncalled for. But you know when you watch Grisham not perform all year and you watch Jazz Chisholm come in at 218 for the season and make an error the way he did in game two. And then say he would do it again. Fans are going to vote with them with their voices. I thought that crowd was incredibly supportive last night. Those are the two instances of them booing. That was it. I didn't hear any booze other than that. Once the game was over. There was a segment of the fan base that was chanting fire boon that I heard.
But they were behind this team. But when you don't score it's hard for a team to get it when when John Carlos didn't came up to pinch it. In the in the eighth inning. The place was roaring. Expecting that great moment that we have not seen. He ended up striking out. So I'm not going to get on Yankees fans about this. You know I was listening to to to Carlisle and Grasso before this show too. I got to tell you all great players don't want to play here really really. Garry Colk signed a contract to play here max freed signed a contract to play here. I don't judge was free to go wherever he wanted and got offered more money in other places and he signed here. I mean we keep bringing up Soto. All right. Soto left to go to the Metz. They gave him a better contract. The Yankees made a competitive offer for some reason he wanted to go to the Metz. That wasn't because he didn't want to play for the Yankees. He wanted to go to the Metz. But they get the players they want you can't tell me Yamamoto they made the same offers as Dodgers did.
The Japanese players don't want to play in New York. They made an unbelievable offer to Otani. He took the Angels offer. There's some players that just don't want to because of proximity to their country. But there are a lot of players that want to play for the Yankees a lot. Cody Belinger resigned here. He could have left and gone wherever he wanted. So I don't buy that. Fans have always been tough in New York. Always been tough. They were tough in 96 and 98 and 96. Tina Martinez was booed for the first month of the season. Because he wasn't done thatingly. Somehow they persevered. Joe Gerardi was booed for the first month of the season. He persevered. One three championships as a player with them. Fans have always been tough and demanding. This is a big city man. This is a big boy country. I don't think people are not going to the Yankees because the fans are so tough. I don't buy it. I don't buy it.
Tell me the player that they wanted other than Soto who stayed in New York. So it can't be that he didn't want to play in New York. Tell me the player other than Soto that they pursued that they didn't get. I'll wait because there's no answer there. And I'm not counting the Japanese players because they'd rather play in the weather of L.A. They can compete with that which is closer to Japan. Not about the fans. They're picking the wrong players. They're accentuating the wrong things on players. They just are. As I keep saying, you've got to change the formula. This formula is not working. Nick fans. Post your job for free at LinkedIn.com slash Eisen terms and conditions apply. You are podcast. A strange. Maybe a dichotomy that's happening on anti social media. So you know got home last night after the s post game show and you know I'm doom scrolling which I really shouldn't do but I do occasionally. I'm just going to be a little bit more honest and there's so many angry angry people and for some reason many of them are really angry at me as if I put together the team where I have something to do with it and I think the angry is simply because I don't cosine their irrational ranting. I've told you this before and I don't know how much longer I'll do the show but I have done it for 25 years and I've never called for anybody to be fired.
So just because you are out of your mind because the Yankees lost and I don't blame you I don't blame you for being upset. You want me to get on this air and demand certain people get fired not going to do it. I came on the air today and said they have to be changes philosophically on the players that they're pursuing and bringing in because it's almost inconceivable to lose to not win a championship in 17 straight years when you spent over $4 billion in payroll. It's inconceivable but I guess it is conceivable because we've lived it. But the the enmity toward me because I don't agree with you and then the object foolishness of people that say. Case in their pocket. K is told what to say and still you follow me. Which makes you I don't know less than bright.
So if you think that I'm compromised and that I'm only telling you what they want me or they want to tell me they want me to tell you why would you follow me doesn't that make you a fool. Why would you clog up your timeline or watch the clips that we put out from the show why would you care. Because I seem to be public enemy number one like like I made five out yesterday or on the one who's lost the last eight years and didn't win the world series. Somehow it all falls on me on the guy on the guy they hate. I can accept that I'm a big boy. And I love when people like will come out and say, oh, Kate is what loses job at yes. Yeah, more on I don't want to lose my job at yes, but yes, it's never told me what to say on this radio show ever. And I wouldn't allow them to they don't control the show. This is the SPN show not yes is show. Do I upset the Yankee sometimes when I say certain things? Yeah.
And we'll talk it out. But I'm not going to be compromised. I'm not. But for some reason you spend your energy directing your iron at me. I have nothing to do with putting this team together. And I'm sorry. I think Brian Cashman is a good GM. I'm sorry. And I think I think Aaron Boone has done a good job. I don't agree with all of you. So if you want to direct your hatred to me because you can't get any satisfaction if the Yankees don't make them you think the Yankees take their marching orders from what I say. This is just how I feel. Game is past. The thing I rang up a lot of a lot of anger when I said, you know, Brian Cashman is still an excellent GM. Oh, you don't know what you're talking about. He's in your pocket. You're afraid of him. Again, why would I be afraid of Brian Cashman? He doesn't control my employment. He's in a completely different department of the Yankees.
You think Brian Cashman is controlling who's broadcasting the games? Come on. Just give me a little credit to have been I've been around a long time. And I said a lot of things. And if you think that I carry water for the Yankees, what I would suggest you do. Is check out the last two post games that we did at the SNF or just check it out. See if I'm carrying water for the organization. But again, it gets into your minds. And you want to hate somebody and you're not getting satisfaction because it doesn't look like Boone or or Cashman going anywhere. So you just it's me. It's funny. It's funny. Again, I'm compromised. I'm. I'm a mouthpiece for the team. I'm a plant as if the Yankees can plant announcers on ESPN. But you still follow me. Not too bright. You're not too bright. I mean, if I I could do a whole show, maybe I'll do it next week.
Just reading you. Some of the comments that are directed toward me because I disagree with the masses who are carrying their their their their torches through the fields. I'm not of that mindset. I am of the mindset that something has to change. You can't keep doing this. You can't spend four billion dollars in payroll and not want to championship in 17 years. Not not run into one by accident. There was a guy as I was walking on the field yesterday. And it was behind the screen. So I was walking from the third base side to where the the yes station was set up on the first base side. And this guy probably a little over served screaming at me tell Bob Boone that he's the worst and all I could think I didn't answer him back. I wonder if you would have the guts to say that Aaron Boone's face. I wonder if you have the guts. It's awfully awfully awfully invigorating to be a tough guy when you don't have to say it in their face.
If you met Aaron Boone, you'd melt. If you met Brian Casman, you wouldn't even say have the stuff that you say on social media. And that's okay. You you you get bravery from anonymity. Okay. That guy screaming bad Boone. Can you imagine a guy walking up to another man calling him a bad Boone like that. I don't think you'd have the guts. And I'm not saying that you shouldn't be upset. You've heard the beginning of the show. How could you not be upset the way they played? It's unacceptable to not have a lead for 27 innings at any point for half an inning. Never have a lead. I know that a better record than you and they're the higher seed but you think they're that much better than you. So all of that something that I understand the anger and I understand the frustration. But there's a civility that should be followed as well. But on anti social media, the things that are said about me, it's laughable.
I don't even allow my kids to scroll through it. Well, why should they be upset? But again, like it's my fault that the Yankees haven't won a championship in 17 years. My fault. That Boone and Casman are still here. Because you want me to agree with you. And that's the way the world is right now. Even in politics, if you don't agree with me, you're the enemy. You're the worst person on earth. The only way I accept you is credible is if you believe what I believe. And I'm sorry, I'm not carrying a lit torch through a field. I take my job very seriously and Yankee fans should take their fandom very seriously. But to the level that some people are taking it, it's unacceptable. But it's also a crystallized version of our society today. There is no civil discourse. If you disagree with somebody, that person is scum.
And if that person disagrees with you, there has to be some nefarious reason that they disagree with you. Somebody's in his pocket. He's a shill. He's a mouthpiece. Whatever. I don't know how you could reconcile that characterization of me. When I say the things I say about the Yankees, when they lose the way they lose. But if I'm not all in on your ridiculousness, then it's because of some nefarious reason. I'm cold with it. I'm a big boy. This is the root I've chosen. This is the job I've chosen. And you're going to get the slings and arrows. And to be honest with you, the people that say that stuff, I have so... No, I should... Let me rephrase it. I have no respect for you. None. It's funny though, there's such a... It seems like so many people that are so angry and say such nasty things to me. Isn't it odd? I'm out in public all the time. All the time. No one has ever come up to me and said that.
Ever. Never once. Because I treat people with respect. And I guess people treat me with respect. But it's odd that everybody that's so brave on Twitter. Never. I've never run into one of them in all of these years. Where somebody has come up and said, you're a shill. You're a hack. You're a paid propaganda piece by the... Not once. Isn't that crazy? Maybe you're just not brave without the anonymity of anti-social media. Maybe that's it. I don't know. But I would think I'd run into one or two in all these years. Not one. I'm out all the time. All the time. Somebody. Come up. Let's have a discussion. I won't... I will not engage on anti-social media anymore. Because you can't win. But what I... I have no attempt to always do when I look at these people out or saying these things. And then you read who they are.
It is funny. There's a through line for a lot of them. There's something that... A lot of them share. I'm not going to get into it. But a lot of them share this through line. But I always want to answer. And yet you follow me. Dot, dot, dot. I guess that makes you a fool. But I don't do it because you can't win. But anybody that feels that way, the number is 1-800-919-3776. Let's have a discussion. How you think that I'm a hack or a paid shill or a plant by the Yankees. Imagine the Yankees having the power to get ESPN radio to hire a host that does their bidding. Imagine that. They've planted me on ESPN radio. And ESPN, this monolith, is compliant with and go, okay, okay, we'll put them on. Just because you want us to. Stop. That's silliness. We'll be back. Thanks for listening to the Michael K.
