Griffin's MLB Debut: Pirates' Teen Sensation Shines

0:00On April 3rd, Pittsburgh pirates called up 19-year-old shortstop Conor Griffin for his major lead debut in the home opener against the Baltimore Orioles on April 3rd, 2026. In his very first at-bat bottom of the second, he crushed an RBI double to center off Kyle Brattish, putting the pirates up one nothing with Ryan. O'Hern scoring from first. Griffin kept the momentum going, racing home on a single from Jared Triollo to make it to nothing, then the pirates pout on with doubles and singles. From Henry Davis and O'Neill Cruz, for a four-nothing lead after the inning. On defense, he snagged a grounder for the first out and flipped a double play in the top of the second. Fans and analysts are buzzing about his kid's poise. No nerves in his big league bow. He's the first teenager to debut for the pirate since Air Miss Ramirez back in 1998 and the first in a home opener since 1999. What sets Griffin apart is his toolkit. He snagged a minor league gold glove at short last year, hits for average ampop and flies on the bases.

1:04Pirates handed him the starting gig right away. Expect this rookie to keep shining through 2026 Griffins just getting warmed up in the Steel City spotlight. MLB News today, powered by AI bringing you what matters on the diamond. I'm Cory with the story.
