Grey's Anatomy Writer's Lies Unraveled

0:00What's up, I'm Cory with the story, and these are your entertainment and celebrity headlines. Elizabeth Finch was a writer and producer on the hit show Grey's Anatomy for 8 Years. She wrote 13 episodes and helped produce 172 more. But her career took a hit when it came out that she had made up major parts of her life story. She claimed to have a rare bone cancer, an abortion during chemo, and even losing a friend in a terrorist attack. None of it was true. Finch got her break in Hollywood after college, starting as an assistant and moving to true blood. An article she wrote for Elle caught the eye of Shonda Rhymes, landing her on Grey's. She even wouled her fake cancer story into the show, giving a character a similar spinal tumor diagnosis. In early 2022, Disney investigated her medical claims and put her on leave. Shonda Lant said only she could speak to her personal story. Less than two weeks later, Finch stepped away voluntarily to focus on her family and health.

1:00Her colleagues were shocked as more details emerged. The lies unraveled after Finch met Jennifer Byer at a mental health clinic in Arizona in 2019. They became close, got married, and started house hunting in Los Angeles. Byer grew suspicious and checked social media, confirming many stories were false, like claims about a kidney transplant from a true blood co-star. These days, Finch calls her lies a coping mechanism from a real hiking injury back in 2007 that led to knee surgery. She says she craves support and attention. A new documentary called Anatomy of Lies, directed by a Vanity Fair editor premiered on peacock this year, diving deeper into the scandal.
