Antonio Pemberton to Michigan State. You can take this. We did just do a video on this that should be up in the next 20 minutes or so to which I raised some, I don't know, bigger conversations coming off of this signing, but five star guard can't be mad at that. What are your thoughts? A couple of different questions to answer here. So I'll go one by one. What do you think shifted it is as opposed to recently? I really don't think that much has shifted to be honest with you. I think is a targets guys that he wants and he goes all in on those guys and you know what his pitch is always going to be the same, which is what the guys want to buy into that picture, not high concerns with Loss and Antonio together. Yes.

2:18Yeah. But buckets, but yes. Yeah, I kind of made the case that I don't think you'd ever want to play Medlock, Pemberton and Jarvis together as fun as that would be hard to think of like three more fun Michigan State guards at once on paper coming out of high school, at least I think you'd be going back to like Kaelin Allen summers era where that was really fun. But just tiny Pemberton is listed at six one and I straight up don't buy it. He looks so small. Maybe he'll grow a little more. I don't know. And it doesn't really matter like he's one of the best scorers in prep basketball at his current size. So it's fine. But him and Medlock together take Jarvis out of it because I don't really care if they do it three take just him and Medlock and I kind of get confused on how they work together. Because to me, Pemberton is like not really a big passer. He's kind of like a given the ball bucket has to go score for you.

3:19And I think he needs the ball. I don't think he's really like play him at the two off the ball at six foot. Medlock though is like dog also kind of score first point guard. I think you want the ball in Medlock's hands, especially with a year under his belt. So I don't know. I wouldn't really want to like have Medlock be running the team just to have Pemberton get shots off the ball. But good problem to have figured out compete and force each other to get better beat each other out. I'm sure everyone's comfortable with this. They probably all hung out during grind week and Pemberton probably loves these dudes. So the comp I came up with in the video is it's very Frank Mason Devante Graham e to me where like it probably shouldn't be happening simultaneously. But if you find a way to make it work, that's two killers that are undersized and can compliment each other well. So big time big time news for Tom is a. All right, kill move says since two K is developing the next video game for college hoops, will we be playing it? What team will you start with?

4:26I mean, of course, I'll of course I'll be playing playing it. What team do I want to start with? Honestly Syracuse is what I want to start with. I'm rock with the orange. Why Syracuse. So yeah, I would have to like run one with the team with the squad with Michigan. But then like you got to start at like a mid major and work your way up and become the greatest. So I don't know, give me like some swacks. Cool. And see if I can flip them. All right, Nick Culver wants us to take note that Obena Keese is swole now. Really, where can I see this Nick? There was a dump clip of him last week where he did look rather intimidating.

5:29He's on the team. People forget that people do forget that the number one rated freshman in the class of 27 is just Louisville's backup center. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of crazy. I saw the comment. Card, I'm really confused with e to the F and D. Wow, I have them. I don't get his game. You ever have like someone that you just you can't get a read on like total wild card. That's spectacular vernacular.

6:29What was that mean? I don't know. I don't know if he's trolling. I feel like I feel like that's showing love. I don't know. I think it's showing love. Okay. I love that. If so, but like like I said wild card, I can't get a read on it. Yeah, fair. I can't get a read. Love you e to the F and D. I think might hate you can't tell. Really have no idea. Speaking of state of the programs, though, those are back. We did three yesterday started with Michigan, then Michigan State and then Duke was the third one we did. You and I are going to do 20. You and I are doing all 20 this year. No, no additional contributors. And we've completed our grades. We've seen each other's grades. So we know what the end results will be here. But we're going to drop a handful of these every day going forward between now and the end of next week until we get through all 20. So I want to touch on your experience doing state of the programs for year three here. I think it's very interesting to do them and see how it ends up.

7:30I will say this. I don't know how to work around this. But I do find myself getting it to the end, adding it up and then looking at it versus another team. And I'm like, well, no, no, no, no, no, no, I think this team is better than this team. So that like throws it for a little bit of a mine, mine twist, I would say, but in general, I like doing it. I think it's fun to do. Yeah, I think it's, it's a very different intent than just who's the best team. That's why I like doing it. And I do think it's one of the more unique offseason content exercises you can do. Like we do put a lot of thought into the formula for it. And we changed the formula for it this year after two years of doing it. I think we kind of sat down and we were like, we learned some things last year and the game is evolving and our formula should probably evolve too. So now the way it works, 10 points from both of us for your return e strength, all the players that are back, 10 points for all of the incoming transfers strength, 10 points for freshman slash international ads.

8:39Anybody who's new, who's not a transfer. And then now we do subtraction because we wanted to add more math to this. So the strength of your outgoing players, 1 to 10 now gets subtracted from the rest of the number that you've already built. We added some small numbers vibes is still there. We added stability this time and we added ceiling and floor for this year's individual season. So yeah, I think I like the formula we have. I think it worked like I looked at the sorted list and I do think it pretty much directly maps with the healthiest to least healthy basketball programs in the country in the top 20. So I'm excited for people to see them. They're going to be about 20 minute long videos, all cart and I and should be a couple of these dropping every single day between now and the end of next week. Yes, I did give MSU a two for their transfer ranking. Michigan State and Purdue are the only two programs we did and we signed one transfer. Like a good transfer class has multiple transfers. Not one transfer. So like you're automatically bottom of the barrel with one transfer. Kaden Pierce is light years better than block. That's why Purdue got a three and Michigan State got a two. Michigan State got a starting center that I think is mid Purdue got a starting power forward that I think is average. Can I jump into this for a second too as well? Yes. I think to sleep part of this is Michigan State needed a center.

22:46I feel like right now Purdue they need a front court help and they went and got Kaden Pierce which doesn't really help. The center spot I guess you would say I just like I think the best grade I would give a one man transfer class is a four. Like a one man transfer class is not enough in this era if you're a healthy program. That's the whole point of this exercise. Are you doing all the things that a championship program should be doing? If you're only bringing in one transfer max unless you are the best team in the country then to me you left some out there. That's Purdue right now. Purdue has zero proven good players. Their own beat writers will tell you that they've watched the team all summer and they're coming away like we don't know if anybody's good. Kaden Pierce probably has the best pedigree here. It was a good ad. That's why it gets a three. But you can't like there's a world here where Purdue brought in impact players and they didn't try to. Also did you give them a three? I did give them a three.

23:46How does he know that? Because I alluded to it in the video. I said there's one other team that I gave a three and one got a two and everybody else is like because every other program in the country portals. So every other program in the country got like a six to a 10 based on a class with multiple members in it. Yeah fair. And by the way to be clear ask Duke fans about this because I had the same criticism of shy or the last two or three years. I was like shy or does not portal to the level of winning a national championship. Duke fans were on my ass about it for two seasons saying I'm wrong. Duke fans showed up this off. So you said you're right. And we finally added a star in the portal and John Blackwell and now we get it. So like I promise you if your program started to change you feel differently. I promise you if Michigan State got eight in Charelle they feel differently. And I promise you if Purdue ever gets an impact player in the portal instead of a good role player they will feel differently. But that's how those coaches choose to operate it into me at handy caps with their trying to do winning a national championship by not doing that. We'll see. Yeah I told the story a lot.

24:48Honestly probably too much but I visited both I got into both I was going to go to Michigan. I planned on it and then I hated the visit and visit Michigan State and completely loved it tried to abandon Michigan fandom completely. For various personal reasons I couldn't mark Antonio and his daughter. I went to high school with her and was very close friends with her he was awesome to me and I love that family. So I was like fully aboard the Michigan State football train as soon as I became a student easy to abandon Michigan football. The freshman year I was at Michigan State was traderx year. And I just I tried to watch those games and root against them and I was like I love this team. I can't do it. So victim of timing I think if I was in college four years earlier I would have been able to become a full Michigan State fan but I. That's my excuse at least in my mind Jackson Colton Carson Cooper just timing issue. Yeah yeah this is every day every day Pat it is what it is. What's your go to karaoke song?

25:48Oh depends um last song with the karaoke my team was in a dog fight with Toledo so I went with that one logic song the one 800 song. But if I'm going to karaoke I'm typically with wife. You said the floors of three because I just it's my job to say we're not going to do this.

29:50I want to want to know what I didn't do though. What I didn't have somebody's floor higher than their ceiling. Did that happen last year? No you did that this year. What do you mean you gave someone up I think it was Purdue. I don't want to ruin it but you gave them a higher floor than you did it. Yeah that makes sense that's fine that's doable that's not stupid. The floor is higher than the ceiling if it's a scale of one to five for both what is how strong is your floor and how strong is your ceiling Purdue has a very high floor and a very low ceiling. Well that's see that's going to throw things off them the ceiling doesn't have to be higher than the floor in this exercise. There are teams with high floor and low ceiling there are teams with high ceiling and low floor Michigan I think is high ceiling low floor. Purdue is high floor low ceiling painters not going to implode but that teams also not going to make a final four. Oh okay I see that now. Well I did not do that whatsoever.

34:03Are you ready to admit that Ben Johnson is better than Dan Campbell. Once he does something that Dan Campbell has not done and or be Stan Campbell then maybe I'll get to that point. I mean has Stan Campbell ever hung 59 on Bryce on. Nobody has hung 50 on Ben Johnson. That's true. Very true that bears defense is stinky for sure. Yeah there beat up slash just bad. But you know lines defense. But that's the problem is he's just turned the bears into the lines from two years ago. They have a historically awesome fun offense and they have a terrible defense. But like every single game is going to be electric and thrilling and they definitely can make a deep run in the playoffs. So I'm just to see if every single game is electric in thrilling. I really think it just will be I think they're going to lead a league and scoring by a lot.

35:06But I also think they're going to give up a ton like it's just it's what we watched two years ago. It's a great great start. It is Ben Johnson football and Dan Campbell football is trying to do Ben Johnson football with way less offensive gusto. Can I implore you to name one. Just one singular defensive plate on the Panthers. And the player on the lines except for Hutch right now we had no names flying around Tyler shook bounced up and down on it for four hours.
