Hannah Spencer from the Green Party has won the Gordon and Denton Parliamentary seat and a surprise by election. She took about 40% of the vote, securing a strong victory over Reform UK's candidate by more than 4,000 votes. Labor, which had dominated the seat with over 50% just months ago, fell to third place. The win marks the Green's first member of Parliament in Greater Manchester and their 5th Nationwide. Spencer steps down from her Trafford Council role in the Hale Award, where she was elected in 2023 and led the local Green Group. She plans to keep serving residents there until the May local elections. The Green Party has named Orla Weir to run for Spencer's old council seat. Weir was their candidate in a recent by-election for the same area. Council officials say it's legal to hold both roles temporarily and they'll help manage the workload.
