The New York Giants are overhauling their defense after handing corner-back Paul Senadebo a three-year contract worth $54 million, including $36 million guaranteed. He steps in as the top corner for a unit that struggled last season. With free agency looming ahead of the April draft, General Manager Joe Schoen faces key choices to build depth at the position. Cordale, Flot and the Anse Banks share the number two role last year, but Flot carried the load and impressed in his contract year. There's real hope that Banks, with his physical style, will click in new defensive coordinator Denard Wilson's press man scheme. Still, the team knows it needs more bodies beyond the current depth like Drew Phillips and Rico Payton. Fans and analysts see Flot as a must-keep at age 24, especially in a thin free agent market. He limited catches to just 53% of targets, ranking among the league's best.

1:03The big question is, his size and Wilson's demanding system and what he'll cost to retain. Other targets include 27-year-old Eric Stokes, who rebounded with the Raiders after injuries, posting a 56% completion rate. Allowed, 26-year-old Asante Samuel Jr. showed promise post-surgery with the Steelers. Veterans like 30-year-old Chidobia Woozy, familiar with Wilson from Tennessee and Jalen Armor, Davis offered cheap, scheme-fitting depth. These decisions will define the Giants' secondary as free agency ramps up. Staying cost-effective while adding talent that matches the new philosophy could turn around a defense that's been leaky for years. The Daily News Now is powered by our sponsor.
