Why does it feel like nobody really gives us the inside scoop? Join us on the Powers That Be, the podcast where insiders from Puck break down who has influence how they use it and what it actually means for you. New episodes every weekday, listen to the Powers That Be, wherever you get your podcasts. First pitch for Nandotetis all last night in the last game of MLB Playoff Day number one. He hit out of the park and that started an avalanche of San Diego good vibes all night long, including their pitcher who took a no hitter into the seventh and then gave up a hard ground ball to third that by the way, Manny Machado couldn't handle. They ruled it a single. I thought it was an

error, but that ended the no hitter. San Diego is one of those teams as a sports fan, especially this time of year. If you're like me and it's hard to follow baseball throughout the 162 game regular season, but you like the nature of intense Playoff baseball in late September and in October. San Diego is one of those teams with a fan base that I think you can get into rooting for. They've never won a World Series. They lost in 84 to the Tigers after winning the National League Championship Series. Lost to that Tigers team in 84 and five and then they got blanked by the Yankees swept by the Yankees in 98. Those are the only two World Series appearances they've ever made. That fan base is intense and passionate because that's all they got in San Diego. There's no more chargers. I'm sure they root for the chargers and you know, even probably occasionally a 10 games

at so far driving up I five to LA, but I don't believe that anything in that town comes close to the intense passion they have for the Padres. If they were in the World Series, if they won a World Series, it would be really cool to see. It's not Cubs from 2016. It's not White Sox when they had won their first, you know, what was it 20 years ago 2006. Looked that up. See if I'm right about that somewhere around there when it had been since 1917, but the Padres are one of those fan bases that kind of have earned the right to see their team and it's a good team. They rolled last night. The Cubs ate nothing and PCA was 0 for 3 and on to tease his home run to kick off the game. He had a shot to catch it at the fence and couldn't come down with it. Day one of Wild Card MLB playoffs in the books. The Yankees hammered the Red Sox 9 to nothing. The Astros lost at home

and a chorus of booze serenaded that team as they lost to Chicago in game one to a fairly sparse crowd 17,000 empties in Houston. Same in Atlanta. These day baseball games are hard to get sell out crowds for. Still, I think baseball loves the idea this time of year of day playoff baseball and I watched Phillies braves yesterday as they came down the stretch. First of all, I've said this before and some Nats fans don't like me for whatever. I'm a Bryce Harper fan. I love watching him especially this time of year in the sixth in a game that they trade in a one-one game with a runner on. He hit a bomb to a right field to the upper deck that missed by literally about two inches foul and that would have been a massive blow. They took the lead anyway

that Phillies did but this is what happened in the bottom of the eighth with Riley at the plate and two runners on. Austin Riley in this in the eighth with a three-run shot to give Atlanta the five-three lead they held on for the win. Dodd Mattingley the manager for the Phillies brought in his closer in the seventh inning thinking that it was the highest leverage spot given where Atlanta was in the batting order and he ended up facing in the eighth Riley and gave up the home run. Phillies down five-three if you don't know the format of the playoff bracket it's best of three it stays in the same city with the highest seeded team. So the highest seeded team in that series is Atlanta so game two's

in Atlanta and if Phillies win game three would be in Atlanta. Same with San Diego, Houston and the Yankees. They are all the hosts and it's best of three and then you get the best of five championship series beginning over the weekend. By the way speaking of playoffs I know the Mystics loss the other night and we had Anthony Anthony our caller keeping us up to date on that and I think that tonight is game two for them at home against Atlanta. They need to win to stay alive it's a best of three. Last night the Indiana fever with Caitlin Clark they were up against the wall down one to the aces the Las Vegas aces who were I believe correct me if I'm wrong the number one seed in the WNBA playoffs overall I think so or they're certainly up there maybe they're not the number one seed. Caitlin Clark last night in a game in which they could have been closed out went for 27 points

on 9 of 18 from the floor five of 11 from from behind the arc 15 assists and seven rebounds that's what you call a big time clutch performance when your teams on the verge of elimination they push that series to a third and deciding game hockey's underway the NHL opened up and we had five games last night the caps will wait until Friday night to open up against Carolina on the road I had somebody say to me in Max is a much bigger hockey guy than anybody on this show of the two people on this show somebody said to me the other day a friend of mine who's really into the caps he said this may be their best team ever what ever is a strange it didn't they win the cup he's like in terms of the overall balance of the roster he said this has a chance to be one of the best teams they've ever had is that true yeah they are there there's a lot of expectations like there are

this is without question right a playoff team going into the season. Oh absolutely anything short would be a huge disappointment but the caps have done a ton of work in the offseason bringing Alex talk Jordan Cairo adding a lot of speed but at the same time bringing on a lot of their young guys I'm very excited to see what some of these young guys do Cole Hudson is bound to have a breakout season so I'm really looking forward to what the caps got the team is big they are fast which you don't you can't say a lot about a lot of teams around the NHL so looking forward to Friday and Kane started on one so they're going to be coming out hungry. The Stanley Cup champ Carolina Hurricanes are the opening opponent I'm looking at the odds right now the caps have the fourth best odds to win the Eastern Conference Caroline is the favorite at plus 300 Florida is the second favorite at plus 320 Tampa's plus 600 and then Washington at plus 900 does that make sense

to you Carolina Florida Tampa and Washington yeah it makes four favorites it makes sense I mean a lot of questions are I mean we haven't seen the caps roster do it yet all together but I trust Spencer Carbarian I'm very much looking forward to it all right I'm looking forward to following that season we'll have somebody on the show tomorrow to preview the cap season which again doesn't get underway until Friday night I got this from Steve in Damascus after talking at the very end of the show about Maryland football and Mike Loxley's situation Steve in Damascus wrote Kevin huge Terps fan here I think the benefit of letting Loxley go now is at some point somebody in the athletic department realizing that they've got to do something to give the fans the feeling that they are listening and that they care how does a guy with his record get the time he got with a fan base that keeps dwindling each year he's here and then he writes and I said this I think I

said this God forbid he wins four or five games and the conversation starts to focus in on the money and whether or not they can buy him out if the season ends ends well so Steve I did say yesterday that from a firing him now perspective Jim Smith the new athletic director if he's choosing not to do it and he hasn't done it yet right I mean we're many people expected Loxley to get fired Saturday night Sunday Monday at the latest we're here on Wednesday and he has not been fired at this point and I did say that I thought about it you know after the game when everybody's saying that's it he's gone and I thought you know if you're the AD what is the benefit of firing him now now I don't know about the financial stuff like if he if they keep him throughout the season do they save more money I don't know how all that works the buyouts going to be the buyout and if it ends up

being a couple hundred thousand dollars more I know that's meaningful for Maryland football they couldn't come up with the money last year to buy him out but I just don't know what the benefit would be of letting him go after week four Steve is suggesting that the benefit would be that the fans want him gone and they've wanted him gone and the fan base keeps dwindling and somehow an in-season firing would be okay we've got an athletic director that's finally finally listening doing something about it and the possibility that maybe people would be more supportive of Maryland football the rest of the way I think this season is shot firing him or not firing him it's not apparently a very good football team when you lose 54 to three is a one and a half point underdog at home in your big 10 opener you're probably not a good football team it can be a bad day and not necessarily a bad sign but let's not forget they came off a loss to Virginia tech

in which the score really wasn't reflective of the beat down they lost by nine but it felt worse than that in terms of what would happen if you won some games I actually think I may have mentioned that at the end like what if you know they won four of their final eight you know and ended up six and six and they got into a bowl game you know he's not coming back people he's not coming back I got this from Timmy Terp Maryland is a big-time job Kevin as you've said about basketball before football isn't that much different market size fertile recruiting area and resources they'll get somebody very good yeah Timmy Terp I completely disagree with that especially comparing it to basketball and you didn't do that necessarily I'm my perception is is that you're comparing the football job to the basketball job they are not close in terms of being coveted the Maryland basketball job

when available is still a big-time job okay it's got incredible history you can win a national championship as the coach at the University of Maryland okay the idea that you can do that coaching football is a real stretch basketball is the most important thing at Maryland everybody knows that only an idiot would suggest anything other than Maryland is one of those eight nine ten powerful schools that is basketball first basketball the the fertile recruiting area is even better for basketball than it is for football and you've got a fan base that is always salivating at the possibility that the team's going to be good and when it's good you have to fight for tickets okay this is different than football football you not only have to be good you got to be

ranked you got to be undefeated to draw flies more than flies or you've got to have a really strong opponent that brings their fan base Ohio State Michigan Penn State Virginia Tech it's not the same Timmy Terp not the same they're completely different jobs when available by the way the Maryland basketball job isn't what it used to be you know it isn't it used to be easily a top 10 job in this sport it's now more like a top 20 job in the sport I'm not talking about program okay I'm not saying Maryland is a top 20 basketball program right now because it isn't right now but the job availability for people in that sport they view it as a top 20 job because you can win and you can win big at Maryland in basketball no one's ever won big in Maryland football not

since the 50s you can win at Maryland you can have success you can you know compete for eight nine win seasons in bowl games and I say that understanding what happened with Signati at Indiana last year of course there's always that one you know complete aberration now you got to try to hire somebody like that it's too bad they didn't get Chesney last year to go from J.M. you to Maryland instead of J.M. you to UCLA look at UCLA UCLA they're ranked they're undefeated they crushed Maryland but they also beat Cal and Purdue and they look like a completely different program than they've looked here recently especially on offense this was a team the last couple of years they couldn't move the football they couldn't score UCLA they look good they do I don't know how it'll end when they start playing much better competition um Maryland's got to strive for that they need the coach that gets more out of less not less out of more and that's what's

happened here for eight years my oh look I um in terms of you know the fan base dwindling each year I mean it didn't start from from a level of you know massive massive fan base I mean even Ralph who I love and Ralph was truly an example Ralph region was of a coach that got more out of less he coached him up he coached those teams up they won 31 games over a three year period I know they were in the ACC not the big 10 it is a big difference I get it but he could coach everybody in the sport knows that Ralph can coach Mike Loxley knows that Ralph can coach James Franklin who was in town last week knows uh Ralph could coach that's what they got to find they got to find that guy that literally x's and owes the team up to two to three more wins than they would have gotten with an average to subpar coach so um yeah the fan base has dwindled of course it has but it

didn't start from massive passion to begin with you know we've gone through a horrible decision uh by you know Kevin Anderson at the time to move on from Ralph region and to hire Randy Edsel that was horrendous um the decision to expand the stadium and take on a lot of debt uh after Ralph you know one a bunch in his first three four or five years that was probably not the best decision either they were eventually going to have to do something with the stadium um but it's not the best of the situations in terms of viewing a football game um and then you know you get the DJ Durkin era which I do think he's a hell of a football coach I think they found somebody that could get more out of less but we had that tragedy it's terrible and now he's the defensive coordinator at Auburn and has been there for a bit right I think it's Auburn uh and uh yeah

and now locksley for eight years as I said yesterday nothing says more about the stature of Maryland's football program then to say that a guy that's 32 games under 500 in conference is in his eighth season that wouldn't happen anywhere else nobody would be in their eighth season at 17 and 49 in conference play and without a winning record in conference in any of the first seven seasons all right enough about that let's talk some football next our team is in London Dan Quinn's going to be speaking soon I don't know if we're going to learn much about the quarterback situation today but I would imagine we would learn a lot more later today or tomorrow after they've practiced twice at least more on that next how we made your mother is a rewatch

podcast that looks back episode by episode at the hit tv show how I met your mother it's hosted by me Josh Radner along with series co-creator and my friend Craig Thomas follow how we made your mother wherever you get your podcasts you guys know that Sunday was the first time in NFL history that there were 12 games that were all one score games the most ever on a on an NFL Sunday 12 games ended up being one score games the only two that weren't because you had 16 games in week three yet a Thursday night game and a Monday night game 14 on Sunday the only two that were not chiefs dolphins and jags patriots 12 games ended up being one score games the most in NFL history and then I found something else as it relates to our team Washington on Sunday became the fourth

NFL team this year as an eight and a half point underdog exactly eight and a half points to win outright the cardinals did it in week one against the chargers the saints did it in week two against the ravens the browns did it in week two against the bucking ears and then Washington did it yesterday or Sunday as an eight and a half point dog as the fourth time in three weeks it's the most since 1978 that you've had four eight point or larger underdogs eight and a half point excuse me or larger underdogs win outright in the first three weeks of the season in 1978 there were five outright eight point eight and a half point or larger underdogs that won outright first of all what struck me about that ESPN research you know fun fact to know and tell was that in 1978 the

NFL was kind of the same thing you know even way before free agency way before you know every team you know has a chance every year still the unpredictable nature of the NFL was still in play all the way back then and then the other thing was I thought and trust me on this because I would tell you if it didn't occur to me but it occurred to me when I saw 1978 that Washington may have been one of the five teams that the redskins may have been one of the five teams to have one as an eight and a half point dog were larger 1978 was the first year of the 16 game schedule prior to that they played 14 regular season games 12 many years prior to that but 78 was the first 16 game regular season they actually started the season Labor Day weekend they did that for a few years and I think we could see that again if they go to an 18 game schedule if we end up with 18 games I think the

beginning of the NFL season will be Labor Day weekend but anyway the 1978 redskins season opened up in Foxboro against the Patriots with jack par D coaching his first game and they beat the Patriots 16 to 14 a fumble return late in the fourth quarter by Brad Dusek who was a long time linebacker for the team gave them the lead 16 14 they held on they won the game and I went to pro football reference looked up what the point spread was New England was a nine and a half point favorite so Washington was one of those five teams in 78 and then fast forward 48 years later you've got a team that's part of four outright winners as big underdogs in the first three weeks of the season anyway I I just wanted to mention that for you older fans you probably remember that season they started off six and oh they had a nine to five that was the final score Monday night win

over the cowboys were Joe thysman took a safety on the final play of the game and was running around in the end zone with the ball up in the air taunting the cowboys as he ran out of the end zone it started a big brawl but they started off six and oh that year that would have been fun to be doing sports talk radio for a six and oh start we haven't had anything like that and since 1978 well since 1991 of course and and then they lost eight of their final 10 games and missed the playoffs as an eight and 18 painful I didn't read this quote on Monday or Tuesday in relation to the game on Sunday but to Marcus Lawrence the starting defensive end for Seattle said about mario does pull on the read option at the end of that game he said that you know was he fooled by it yeah he was mario does a big rp o quarterback this game we didn't see that

until the final play so shout out to washington they came to play closed quote I really thought that by the way that wasn't an rp o that was a zone read read option I've explained it before even players in the game even coaches in the game sometimes you hear them describe a read option or a zone read play as an rp o they're actually different rp o stands for run pass option it's when the quarterback comes to the line of scrimmage and he's got the option to instead of hand the ball off with the lineman blocking run pull it quickly and throw it quickly before the lineman are down field out to a receiver on a bubble or a hitch or something like that a zone read or a read option is when the quarterback either hands it to the back or in that mesh hand off pulls it like mario did and runs himself but anyway I thought going into the game that it was going to be a big part of the game too that mario does going to be a big part of the running game and he wasn't

I don't know how many plays may have been called where he didn't pull it but I didn't see that many if any until that final play it was a brilliant brilliant call and what's interesting about that final play by blow and this would be something that I would love to know from David blow and I doubt he'd ever give you the real answer but it's third down and you know it's third and seven and the bottom line is if you don't convert you're going to have to punt the ball and you have a pretty good chance at that point of losing the game 34 to 33 considering how easy it was for Seattle to move the football I mean the previous drive was five plays 68 yards in a minute six so on that particular play it was called as a zone read and a zone read you're reading the defensive end who happened to have been to Marcus Lawrence if he crashes down you pull it as the

quarterback if he doesn't crash down you give it what I would want to know is whether or not he was going to pull it the entire time regardless of what to Marcus Lawrence was going to do and why do I say that because the give was not going to get you know the seven yards the give to the back was not going to get seven yards against that Seattle front so the only way you're going to run that play is the idea that Marcus is going to pull it and with his athleticism and his you know good ball handling and and then running ability he's got a chance to go get that first down and it's a better chance to do it that way than to drop him back and throw it remember to Seattle had just called their final time out so if you do get stopped you want the clock to run you know the play starts with a minute 36 to go so if you do get stopped short and let me just also mention there's

the possibility on that final play and we didn't talk about this that if they had gotten say four or five yards instead of the first down to ice the game they could have done a couple of things number one let's just say it's fourth and three at the Seattle 40 he's already kicked a 57 yarder in the game Stevens has now I don't think they're going to kick a field goal there especially since he had just missed an extra point in the same direction from 48 you know there was some wind on the field it was the nor Easter day and there was some wind that played a role at times in that game but you could have lined up and tried to draw them off sides in that spot I don't know if that would have worked you were going to absolutely at the end of that play make sure that the clock was running whether you got a first down or not because if you ended up punning it and with Tressway

maybe punning it inside the 10 somewhere you wanted you know 50 some odd seconds to be left in the game Seattle having no time outs now could they have stopped them from getting into field goal range with 50 some seconds left even if they started at their own six yard line I don't know the last drive prior to that would say no you would say no to that but I am interested to know whether or not it was a pull the whole way whether de Marcus Lawrence crashes down or not if he's playing marioda and he's expecting it Mario to pull it and somehow he's got to avoid de Marcus Lawrence get outside of him and make that run and maybe it doesn't work that way maybe it doesn't because de Marcus Lawrence the read was the correct read but I don't know in that situation if you give it because de Marcus Lawrence is playing the quarterback you're not getting seven yards on that play the only way to get seven was to pull it so anyway it's you know it's Wednesday off of the

biggest win since January of 2025 we didn't have anything like this last year the last you know truly big win for this franchise was the playoff game and Detroit before the NFC championship game and Sunday was a massive win I mean they beat the defending Super Bowl champions who looked like the Super Bowl champions in their first two games they clearly are very good on defense where they'll end up ranking who knows but that is as stout a defensive front as you are going to face this year I mean it is legit fillies is legit to upfront but Seattle's right now appears to be you know just playing a little bit better fillies defense didn't look great against Chicago they also couldn't score against Chicago but that is you know that's just a tremendous win on Sunday so yeah it's Wednesday they don't play again until Sunday they just got the London we've got plenty of

time to focus in on the indie game but that was quite the the win and as I said yesterday man if they don't pick up the third nine with Rashad white if they don't pick up that third and seven with Marcus Moriota and they got to give the ball back and Seattle kicks a field goal to win the game 34 to 33 this is an absolute opposite week because Dan Quinn is being vilified and criticized to the highest levels because he's got a team that's completely undisciplined player running out on the field for an extra point costs them a football game if they don't pick up those first downs would it I mean that is the tiny tiny difference between the week we're having which is and we can beat indie we can beat the giants and be three and two go on to San Francisco for Monday night football by the way beware of the we can beat indie we can beat the giants as if

it's gonna happen you're an underdog on Sunday okay and we'll probably be pick them against the giants the following week I'm a part of it will be dependent on what on what happens this week the giants Sunday at home as a two and one football team are a two and a half point underdog against the Cardinals so maybe we will be favored against the giants actually will absolutely be favored against the giants unless JJ McCarthy plays and throws for three 70 and four touchdowns and it looks like the giants are completely different team offensively how about that I didn't I would not have guessed that Max that Arizona's a two and a half point favorite on the road against the giants I mean with how James looked against the Titans that wasn't great I know two and one and it's the Cardinals yeah it's a Cardinals I mean the Cardinals actually have some ability real quickly Marvin Harrison Jr. could be on the

trade market there are people reporting that at a quality day three pick is what people are saying that would be for me defined as a fourth-rounder do you give up a fourth-rounder for Marvin Harrison Jr. if you need a receiver I'd call it a bargain to be honest with you I'm worth it'd be worth giving it a shot without a doubt God what a talent coming out I mean I guess there's there's just so much there that you have to know before you bring him right onto your team you've got to understand why in the hell this guy has not produced here you know through two years and three games I mean he's been sub par as a receiver drops not a lot of catches I mean he had a ton of targets that first year remember it was like some massive disparity of targets to catches

if I'm Adam Peters I'm calling the best private investigator in the Arizona area and I am sending him to Phoenix. 116 targets is rookie year 62 catches yeah maybe no I love digs right now I do love digs right now he's good he is he and the rookie who messed up Sunday with the drop and the illegal formation penalty they get separation you know I was thinking about this and going back and and kind of looking at the game a little bit more Monday afternoon and yesterday even more so man almost every catch that Terry made was contested and that's who he is that's Terry McClaurne he's a great contested catch guy why because he is really good at catching contested balls but the

other part is he's always contested because he doesn't get separation but you can throw it to him when he's covered there's no doubt about that he'll make you look right more than not all right Dan Quinn has just held the first coach press conference in in in London before the game against Indy you'll hear what he said next life could feel overwhelming but you don't have to go through it alone on my podcast from the heart with Rachel Breithin I share openly and vonderably about everything life brings us and what we can learn by living with our hearts a little bit more open every Friday a new episode brings you a new story with topics on self-care motherhood healing and more you are enough just the way you are this podcast is a reminder of that follow and listen to from the heart with Rachel Breithin wherever you get your podcasts I coach Camel Glyar from AP

since jaden is here what do you what do you foresee is a foreseeable timeline for him to return to to play and just for total clarity is Marcus definitely the starter on Sunday yeah so as we're getting started for this week today is it's a little bit limited so we're gonna call it like a jog through for us and so he would be limited in that spot but as we're working through the week he'll get more reps as we're gonna go so it's part of our return to play process where guys individual that's kind of a limited portion then some of the team reps and then more so as we get into Thursday and Friday we'll see what that load looks like and then by Friday we'll have a definite determination of where we're at but until then we'll work and start the process but it'd be too early to call it but he's not ruled out he's there to shot to play on Sunday jaden yeah okay that was Quinn being asked directly about whether or not jaden would start or whether

Mario would start so it sounds like they're gonna take this to Friday listening to Quinn answer that my immediate reaction because it's the first time I've heard it is that Marcus Mario is gonna start on Sunday there's video of jaden with the brace on his elbow niki javale I just reposted it you can go to ad kevin she and dc he's taking a snap from nick aligretti it is a walkthrough and he's got a big old you know looks a little bit I guess clunkier than I thought it would look on his left arm but the video is him taking a snap under center and you know kind of play actioning with his right hand and then coming back and trying to extend the left hand and the left arm it's it well it's they're two of them actually they're a couple of some snaps one of them is him coming back and in stretching it out with his left arm it's very much a walkthrough but look the bottom

line is he's gonna play and he's gonna play soon it's just whether or not it's gonna be this week or next week that's what I would think at this point but I think if they had a really strong feeling about jaden playing that we will know that by tomorrow if we hear we're waiting until Friday tomorrow and by the way tomorrow the league is conducting these pressers this week so this the normal schedule I think still applies so tomorrow tomorrow's coordinators but I don't know if Quinn speaks tomorrow he may speak tomorrow because of these international press conference setups for the week I forget how it worked last year in Madrid but you know these coaches during you know playoff weeks are certainly super bowl weeks or international weeks it's a it's a bit of a different schedule so I'll check on that I'll I'll find out from Ben who actually I think is flying over there right now but he said not until Friday I my guess what did you did you hear anything

my guess would be on Friday we're going to hear that Marcus Mario is going to start and jaden's been ruled out if jaden is the backup I don't understand that to me that's the one scenario that doesn't make any sense to me if he's actually ready to play football he starts if he's not ready to play football he sits and the rookie from Rutgers is the backup like he was last week and we move on to the next week when I get back I feel like it's a genuinely fluid situation right now with the videos that I'm watching of jaden going through trails and stuff like that I mean it is a walk through day we'll kind of see how you know he takes into it a little bit more as the week rolls on but I could see him I could see him getting out there on Sunday especially if he really he's going to my point is if he's going to get out there on Sunday he's getting out there is the starter yeah no I I think you're absolutely hitting the nail on the head there I mean does anybody else just does anybody disagree with me I three oh one two three oh zero nine eighty three oh one two three oh zero

nine eighty what would be the point of jaden being the backup on Sunday that that would mean by definition he's healthy enough to play football if he's healthy enough to play football he plays football as the starter because guess what he is the starting quarterback for this franchise and I would love it if he were healthy cleared and ready to go Sunday I don't want to see two or three weeks go by before he plays again I don't want you know the the rust factor to kick in or any of that he looked really good down the stretch against filidel fia in the opener he was phenomenal against Dallas before the injury and we're only you know a week and a half removed from that will be two weeks removed from that it's like a by week you're coming off a by week he's healthy he plays he starts if he's not and he's not cleared then he sits he's rolled out that's how I would see it

you're not putting him into a game is a backup if you know he's just you know he's not quite there yet to be a starter three oh one two three oh zero nine eighty I guess the simple question is does jaden you know on sunday being the backup quarterback make any sense to you it doesn't make any sense to me but I'm open to any thought that is you know different than that I you're either cleared or you're not cleared period if he's cleared he's the starting quarterback Marcus played great last week it's exactly what you want at a Marcus mario to you know you want him to be able to come in in a spot and play when the starter is out there are a couple of other sound bites from Quinn this was Quinn on what he was expecting from jaden in practice this week yes and today

we'll be more in a jog format but if it had been a full practice it would have been limited and in fact everybody will be in that same space with one exception Rashad white still dealing with his shoulder it's still banging so he needs more treatment and time and rehab on it so we'll have a better assessment for him as we get through for the week but everyone else is either full or limited in some variety so it's good to have more of the crew back on the field okay um actually what I took out of that sound bite was basically Rashad white might be out sunday uh we'll see how that rolls through but they've just signed Austin Eccler you know um I was talking to Ben yesterday we were talking about the Austin Eccler signing we did that on Monday show as well you know Ben's like confused apparently a lot of people are like I don't get it why was he signed by the team you know they got bill they got Rashad white who's played two really good football

games in a row they like K-Tron why here's the why because he's better than all of those other players because Austin Eccler healthy and they obviously believe he's healthy and is still Austin Eccler as a football player because Austin Eccler from two years ago and I know it's two years ago but I don't think they sign him back unless they think they can get the Austin Eccler of two years ago or from the very beginning of last year it's because he's better than those players it's not that hard right he's better than Rashad white he's better than Kroski Merritt he's better than K-Tron Allen remember they worked him even with with Brian Robinson Jr they worked him into first down carries at times he's incredibly versatile if you're getting that player that Austin Eccler and they believe that physically he's there they signed him to the 53 and they believe he's ready to roll and be Austin Eccler if he is Austin Eccler from two years ago he's definitely their best running

back so that's why they signed him and so I would expect that unless you know he isn't ready to take on the playbook or the system or whatever if he's got all that he probably is going to play and maybe a lot on Sunday especially if Rashad white can't go or isn't healthy but does anybody disagree with me on that like if you're getting Austin Eccler from 2024 he's your best running back first down back third down back doesn't matter he's better than Bill he's better than Rashad white he's better than K-Tron Allen as far as we know at this point so and he gives you one of those you know extra dynamic kind of playmakers not with great speed but he is a lucid man he's always been that I mean he makes people miss as a runner or as a pass catcher they were at their best in 2024

with Austin Eccler on the field and so if they think they're getting that Austin Eccler back then they're doing it because they wanted to upgrade the running back room one more from Quinn this was Quinn on jaden returning oh if the return is more of a pain tolerance thing listen to the question because this is the first time I'm hearing it too Mitch Tashad my name is sports with with jaden is it is it more about kind of pain tolerance with him or comfort with whatever the apparatuses that he's going to have on his elbow yeah I think first part is the functionality and the strength so the pain tolerance for him he already has the high one into that space so it's more with this specific injury the functionality the strength and once we get to that space then we can go but part of returning to practice is a piece of that and so as he's going in today it's limited and then we'll get more reps as the week goes but it's really all

kind of encompassing into it okay man I hope things go so well today tomorrow and on friday that it's like no doubt in their mind he's good doctors cleared him he looks good the brace doesn't look like it's you know bothering him let's get him out there against the cults by the way are they wearing their alt blacks because that's what they're practicing it is that what they're wearing I think the alt blacks are there the quarterback jerseys for practice got it do you know what they're wearing Sunday I don't think they've announced it yet well they do they announced it before the season starts they the specific combination like with the pants and stuff but it's a home game so they will be wearing burgundy is my assumption no they they they they gave the whole schedule of uniforms for the season I'll find it out all right phone lines open 3012 300 980 if

does it make any sense for jaden daniel's to be the backup quarterback burgundy what is it burgundy I'm looking at the schedule and what's what what what pants white it unspecified I would hope white though all right does it make any sense to anybody because it doesn't to me that jaden daniels would be the backup to mark us mario on sunday 301230 0 980 301230 0 980 and because we have it talked about austin ecler if you want to weigh in on what I just said to me the reason they signed him is because they believe he can be he can be austin ecler from twenty twenty four and if he is he'd be the best running back in the running back room period that's why you do it because it's an upgrade at a position where you could use an upgrade kevin she and show the team 980 and the team 980 dot com dan kwin said that jaden if it was a normal practice today in

london he would be called limited but said a lot of guys would be limited today he'll have more information on who the starting quarterback will be on friday uh i think that it's either sit or start those are the two options for me i don't see where it makes any sense that he's cleared to play and they use him as marcus's backup sunday against the cults if he's cleared to play and he's comfortable with the brace and he's practiced well this week he starts i'm asking you at 3012 300 980 to explain to me if you disagree with me why it would make sense for him to be the backup quarterback sunday against the coltson london also um any austin ecler uh ideas that you have my answer would be well because they think he's austin ecler and he would be better than anybody they have

in the running back room if he's the austin ecler from 2024 yeah he's injury prone certainly has been the last few years uh start with skips skip go ahead kevin the answer is it doesn't make any sense for him to uh be the back of quarterback so it doesn't give a sense your seat does not none whatsoever yeah we're gonna be back to quarterback my now my main point is why does he have to play this week can we give him an extra week because healing is a good thing for the body you know like i don't think i've heard any doctor dispute the fact that the more time he he can have to to heal the elbow the better without getting hit or the chance of getting hit well i think that's i think that's the point though like i would not advocate for him to play on sunday if they feel like more healing is necessary but if the doctors say look the injury

that he had was not a traumatic injury like the one against Seattle uh there wasn't much damage other than it came out of the socket again and by the way he's more susceptible to that happening now that he's that it's happened twice but in terms of the health of the elbow waiting isn't going to make it any healthier if that's the answer i mean what are we waiting for if if healing if there's benefit to healing another week uh before he comes back then i'm all for that but i'm i'm not suggesting that he play with an unhealed elbow i'm suggesting that if he's medically clear to play football because they say there's really no benefit to him you know that there's not going to be any additional benefit for him to wait a week or two then he should play well a lot of this is on him he has made the decision i i i reported that he told his teammates that he cannot let them down

so he's putting a lot of pressure on himself to get back as soon as possible and that's understandable he's a he's a football player okay but that he's a dog okay he there's no question about that his pain tolerance is high but for his own good i mean the the doctor you talk to said every time this happens it gets worse and worse for no it becomes more vulnerable and more vulnerable to it happening again that's what he said he said that with each time there is the the potential that the surgery could become more problematic the recovery time could be longer but he also said when we came when he came on for the second time last week he said the reason they're probably not opting for surgery now and that there's talk of him playing is look at the difference in how he injured it against the cowboys and how he injured it against Seattle this was not a traumatic

injury and perhaps there wasn't any worsening of the elbow it just popped out which they then just pop it back in but often it comes with I mean we're getting into the the whole doctor stuff and I don't know other than what we've been told but here's the thing skip and maybe this is niivite but I don't think that Dan Quinn and the organization are going to let Jayden back out onto the field if there is benefit to him waiting and having it healed I think everybody understands that when he goes back out onto the field brace or no brace that the possibility of him doing it again is higher than it was but they'll wait until after the season for him to get surgery on it because it may not happen again between now and the end of the season they're in the middle of a football season so I'm not saying put him back out there if there's benefit to waiting I'm saying put him back out there if there isn't any benefit to waiting and back to the the the question here

in the moment if if he's ready to play and they're ready to put him in as a backup then he should start so you and I agree on that that's correct and we won on Sunday so that gave us even you know another game to rest them but what if there's no benefit to resting him another game that's my point okay I see your point yeah I mean I maybe by the way you know there's the build up of what Quinn called the calluses you know and you don't get those when you don't play in the summer and you don't play in preseason games I want him to get some of the I don't want him to get injured again but I want him to get back into the routine of playing football regularly because it's been forever it's been since 2024 where he's been a regular participant in the team's football games and so if we're gonna you know sit because hey man it just it'll make sense it'll kind of look

better the optics of you know him resting more rather than bringing him back right away I don't want that if he's ready to go now he's ready to go now and there's no real incremental benefit to waiting he starts he's not a back he feels the same way you do yeah that's for sure I but but I wouldn't be the decision maker and he wouldn't be the decision maker in my organization the medical people would be the decision makers on things like that they'd give us all the information and then we would decide based on that information and we don't have enough of that information at this point but thank you skip let's go to Rob and Frederick do you think there's any benefit at all to jaden being the backup quarterback sunday in london Kevin I think part of this is the NFL wants them to be keep him active and saying that he might play just to keep the fans in london interested until that decisions may that's what I think and the second second dangling on the Ecclor thing he's a good blocker isn't he say that Ecclor Ecclor

said he's good at everything he's a high IQ yes everything but so is Rashad white yeah okay well yeah I know and he was nicked up no right yes correct but but by the way they signed him they committed to signing him before the game on sunday so they were bringing him in before Rashad white got banged up in the game okay well that that was the only thing I brought about yet that's what I think that this whole thing I personally don't think they're gonna put him out there I think they're gonna take him along and say he might start just to keep the fan interest over there up that's what my theory is yeah you know theories or theories yeah no you're entitled to it I I don't agree with that necessarily I don't look I know and I did read that I guess they've slash some ticket prices over there you can basically get in for a lot less the the stadiums not sold out the Tottenham stadium hold 62,000 there appears to be somewhere around two to three thousand seats available but I don't think that that's I think this is Quinn I mean

we we've dealt with this with Quinn before you know we'll tell you on Friday and he's you know doing what most coaches do which is if you know whether he's gonna play or isn't gonna play he's gonna try to create a competitive advantage by making Indianapolis prepare for both this week leading up to a decision that'll be made on Friday that's what I think this is about I also again let me just be clear based on the answer and we'll play it again here in a few minutes because he was asked directly about whether or not Mario to will start Sunday and or Jaden will start I my hunch right now is that Mario is gonna be the starting quarterback and that they're gonna there is going to be some benefit to him sitting for one more week let's go to Anthony Anthony and DC go ahead so what where did this question come from because to me it's either or he plays or he sits so I don't understand where this question even emanated from yeah for me basically oh because people

have suggested one of the one of the I think some one one of the questions didn't they that we played didn't they ask whether or not it was possible Jaden could be a backup I forget but I think there are some people that believe hey man don't start him but you know have him ready if Marcus isn't playing well or if Marcus gets hurt rather than having the rookie back him up I don't think that there's any benefit if he's clear to play football he's your starting quarterback he starts in my view it's either sit or start scenario you're saying here I mean it's either or he sits or he plays one of the two yeah that he sits or start the no brain yeah that's a that's a no brain right I agree that as far as Echelah goes if he's 24 Echelah hell yeah get him out on the field I mean that they might need to put him in one of those concussion helmet things

yeah I was going I was going to call it the great kazoo helmet you're really dating yourself oh my god that's funny yeah well you know there's life yeah I mean if if he can if he can perform like that hell yeah put him out there I mean he doesn't have the breaker way that that bill has but you know he's shifty he can definitely beat lionbockers in coverage so yeah no doubt all right thanks Anthony no mystics steep yeah they got a win tonight to keep their season alive Steve in Colombia any does it make sense at all for jaden to be the backup on sunday tell you don't no it doesn't make any sense for him to be the backup but with my medical background he does not need to play probably until the giant or 49ers game period okay tell me what your thinking background is now I'm just being I'm being sarcastic but uh yeah he doesn't need to play man based on what is happened in the

type of injury it is in my opinion and as far as Echelah's concern he has more experience than those backs but athletically I don't think he is anywhere near what he used to be compared to those younger guys I just don't believe it because other teams would have signed him yeah I mean I I think that he was just cleared recently and there were teams interested uh Carolina reportedly I think Ben had was interested in bringing him on to their practice squad but yeah I mean look Austin Echler is you know 31 years old at this point and he was available on free agency not for a massive deal necessarily and he's had nothing but injuries going back to the last two seasons here the concussions in 24 and then obviously the Achilles last year but he's if he is what he was and they believe he can be what he was in 24 or even early last season before the injury what what we did he get hurt in the green bay game max what game did he

get hurt in it was the green bay game he took that negative step and then boom yeah um yeah because he he had a decent game in the opener against the giants you know at six carries had three catches um you know uh totaling 57 yards total on nine touches uh if they think that that's the player that he can be then in my opinion the reason they're bringing him in because he's better you know he's as good or better than anybody else you have uh thank you Steve anybody else want to weigh in Shane uh Willie Scott stay on hold 301230980 if you want to weigh in we've got an open line uh the question is does it make any sense at all for jaden daniel's to be the backup quarterback sunday in london against the cults kevin she and show the team 980 and the team 980 dot com hi i'm pj vote and i want to tell you about my podcast search engine we try to make sense of the world one question at a time no question too big no question too small we will even answer

your questions if you send them in stuff like what happens when a cemetery goes out of business what should we do about teens using ai to do their homework who buys luggage at the airport luggage store follow and listen to search engine in partnership with odyssey wherever you get your podcasts and then just with ecleric no i hasn't been on the practice field fully just yet but what gave you confidence that he was able to come back from that kind of injury and still be as effective as it was yeah certainly the uh the insider knowledge helps on this one you know who the competitor is you know what he's made of and so that definitely is a big factor knowing him he was going to go through every step of the rehab to get into that space so we thought you know the time where it would be and then see in the video of him what it looked like this was the right time for us so as far as readiness for the game i don't know that yet and i think it's too early to call so we're not in a rush to do that so we're going to find you know the best space for him to do that but

we are definitely pumped these back Dan Quinn on Austin Eccler just a moment ago he held his first press conference in London as the two teams there get ready for a game i mentioned it earlier and somebody sent me a link to the story so Tottenham which is where they play on sunday Tottenham hot spur holds 62,000 wembley holds 86,000 and next week by the way the Eagles and Jacksonville play in the same stadium that the Colts and skins are playing in this week it's already sold out for Eagles Jacksonville next week the Washington Indie game is right now officially 2000 seats short of a sellout so they've slashed the prices on certain tickets who cares i mean from our standpoint but yeah uh Washington's you know trip to Madrid last year was a very successful one

that was the first game ever in Spain and that game was sold out you know almost minutes after the tickets went on sale. London has seen a lot of NFL football over the last 15 years. Let's go to Shane in Calvert County question is does it make any sense for jaden daniels to be the backup quarter back on sunday against the Colts? I personally don't think it does if he's clear to play football he starts so for me it's he's an out and ruled out on friday or he's ruled in and he starts the game sunday Shane what do you think? I think we should start with Marcus um i feel like Marcus deserves it after his performance last week and you know if things start to go south then we bring in jaden and the problem is if we start jaden he plays a full game we lose what do you think the conversation is going to be monday you know it's all going to be he shouldn't have played he wasn't ready it's

neglect and it's going to be a bunch of finger pointing uh and again i i think Marcus is on fire right now so we should give him a chance. Well to to that point you're a hundred percent right if jaden started and didn't play well uh and they lost the game to indianapolis with marcus mario david on the sideline that would be the conversation but i got to tell you it just wouldn't be i don't think intelligent conversation it would be very emotional and reaction and reaction uh airy uh conversation and at the same time you know no one's going to know if jaden doesn't play and mario to place poorly and they lose that they should have started jaden because they can say he wasn't ready yet now he's ready to face the giants so if you're going to take the path of least resistance or the least risky in terms of fan reaction media reaction then you probably sit him but i hope that they're not making decisions based on that because if he's cleared and healthy

and ready to go he gives the team the best chance to win on sunday by playing quarterback there there's no one in that building thinks that he doesn't now if you put him out there compromised it's different but i'm assuming that they're not going to do that but you're you're not wrong if he starts and plays uh and doesn't play well in the team loses for whatever reason there's going to be a lot of second guessing about hey you should have waited another week you should have played marcus mario to but i want to make sure i'm clear on something uh shane and that is you'd start mario to but you'd have jaden is the backup hello yes sir i'll give you a name yeah so you have you'd have him as a backup yes sir okay see i think if you got him as a backup ironically you're open to some level of of uh you know criticism if mario to doesn't play well and then jaden comes in and you know

it's too late when he comes in and he plays like if you want to steer clear of any potential criticism next week and you're the coaching staff and you're the organization you start mario to and you say jaden needs another week for the elbow to heal at least another week then they're you're safe you're safe but i don't think you should coach that way i don't think you should worry about what shane uh and kevin she and think personally um all right thanks let's go to willian gathersburg willie any sense do you think in in making jaden the backup on sunday what's going on kevin good afternoon good morning good afternoon uh i'm one of those callers now just like the last one that feels and my reasoning is again for that same um reason that he mentioned not because of the um um uh you know the the fan base but more and so because of the uh him you know maybe still fragile

again i know that you saying that that's not us uh that's not our um decision to make but uh the the doctors obviously but i feel that you know when you are when you have the hot hand in the team you know they let that hot hand ride and if it's beneficial that you're not gonna allow the think the benefit is where you don't put Daniels in a risk uh injury uh potential situation again and therefore like so what are you saying you don't want him to play because you're concerned about his health but you do want him to be the backup on sunday because mario just got the hot hand if if the case is that uh he is still clear and they're gonna think about putting him as the backup i'm okay with that because you know it's like i see it this way Kevin just real quick and i'm done uh it's like playing i know it's a different sports or a different you know situation but let's say you know you have mario just thinking it up you know what i mean then you got Daniels come in

and see if he can save the game for us just because you know he is a better quarterback but well you just you just you just you just answered the question if he's healthy and he's cleared enough to to to be able to be the backup he is the better quarterback he's the much better quarterback by the way yes but he should he should start i feel like yeah because he does he's still learning how to protect himself and i think mario does better okay all right thanks willy again i you didn't convince me with that one i if he's cleared and there's no benefit to waiting he starts for me because these games are precious man they're only 17 of them you know you you've got you can't say oh we won last week so we can kind of afford to lose this game and have him rest a little bit more if they don't think there's benefit to him resting you got to start him because he's your best quarterback he's your starting quarterback and winning this game is important this is a big game

two and two is much better than one and three willy in gathersburg go ahead scott in marlin willy is no longer there scott in marlin does it make sense at all i don't think it does but some do does it make sense at all for jaden to be the backup sunday good morning kevin i don't think it makes sense to make him the backup in fact i i guess i was surprised that he even made it to the trip to london i thought maybe depending on his rehab and stuff whatever they're doing i'm not a doctor but i know if you fly on an airplane sometimes again i exacerbate certain things like thrombotic thrombosis type things so i'm surprised he's even easy even going easy even in london i guess it's just for the you know the competitive edge thing with keeping them there to keep the cold honest but i also wanted to mention i told your producer

i think ecler got signed because something might be going all the germy mcnickel that his uh... his recovery time might be extended somehow we just aren't aware of that maybe that's why they signed ecler yeah you know i i actually forgot about germy mcnickels it's a good call because he's you know he was injured he was he's not on the 53 man roster and they like him a lot because they really like him on special teams and they actually like him in the backfield as well so that may be part of it but remember if you bring ecler on to the 53 somebody's got to go down you're not you're not going to keep four running backs up on game day right so is it ktron allen it might be um... uh... yeah i i don't know i i i'm hoping and you heard what quince ed that they saw the you know they saw the workouts they know the guy and they think he can actually really upgrade the overall running back room because it's not the strongest room on the team by a long shot

but anyway back to the question uh... i want to know uh... somebody like that put them on the practice squad or something yeah so but the the question does it make sense for jaden to be a backup you think not correct oh absolutely not let them uh stay in this regular clothes and i guess enjoy some fish and chips or something yeah you know um thanks for the call i do you know in listening to quince let's play that uh... the the question that you played coming into the segment that started this what was it um the question where he's asked about whether or not he'll start play that again max i coach uh... chemo glyre from ap uh... since jaden is here what do you what do you for c is a uh... for cable timeline for him to return to um... to play uh... and just for total clarity is is marcus definitely the the starter on sunday yeah so as we're getting started

for this week today is it's a little bit limited so we're going to call it like a jog through for us and so he would be limited in that spot but as we're working through the week he'll get more reps as we're going to go so it's part of our return to play process where guys individual that's kind of a limited portion then some of the team reps and then more so as we get into Thursday and Friday we'll see what that load looks like um and then by Friday we'll have a definite determination where we're at but until then um we'll work and start the process but it'd be too early to call it he's not real that he's in a shot to play on sunday jaden yep okay so look um part of me thinks why bring them over there if you're not thinking there's a pretty good chance he's going to play and be the starter again i don't think it makes any sense for him to be cleared and be the backup i don't it's not like he's been out for six weeks and you know there's a rust risk and marcus has been playing for six weeks it's different it's one one game that he has missed

one and a half games if you go back to dallas in week two uh i also think that there is certainly you know a competitive um uh game being played where he wants indeed to consider both quarterbacks as potential starters and he's not going to tell you for sure until he feels like he has to which is usually on friday you know and it's based on you know you got on friday rule players in or out it doesn't mean that things couldn't change on saturday or even in pregame warmups uh going into the game but i do think we'll have a firm answer on friday and i'm actually i'm i think it's a coin flip for me i earlier when i heard that i thought my hunch was mario is going to play but then when you factored into when you factor in the the idea that they brought him over and on a long flight and he's practicing they probably felt like if they're going to bring him there's a chance he's

going to start so this week perhaps does have to play out they have to see what it looks like in practice uh tomorrow and friday more so than today because he said today was more of a jog through stevie ray and ball the more go ahead hey Kevin good morning good morning be um okay so this is this is what i'm stevie ray and this is what i say i say i wanted to play me personally because i enjoy watching the guy play i don't i think if you put a brace on him i think he's going to be fine i watched him in uh it's practices his arms moving around his left arm seems to be doing fine uh let's get him in there let's go let's get this uh show on the road and let's find out what we got because what we do know is we're not going anywhere with mario just not going to get there uh let's let's find out what we have and let's play with the starters that we that we should have in there and let's get this team

playing like what what we thought we were going to get with the season started that's that's my opinion i want i want to see this come along with you i mean i i think it's a bit harsh to say you're not going anywhere with marcus mario mario i agree with you if he's got to start the next you know at this point 14 games you're probably not going to get the best out of what you could have had this season i think anybody would say that he is a high quality backup quarterback in the NFL um this is a good situation they did a good job bringing him back because think about this it could have been you know it could have been somebody much worse uh starting the game somebody without experience somebody that's been you know more of a journeyman and hasn't been a starter so i give them all the credit in the world for signing mario to be for 24 bringing him back in 25 he obviously likes it here and he talks very highly dan quinn can i ask you one question but i'm with you i want to see

jaden play yeah i'm sorry can i ask one question before i let you go sure you let me go um and has to do with the 12th man on the field for the kickoff yeah okay real simple you had said i heard you because i listened to you all the time you said that the the um the guy holding which was way gets to walk off the field i mean what is actually the rule i mean does he just no he's got to leave the field just try to yeah he's got to leave the field and jog off the field so jog off i mean is it safe i don't know i i don't know i i mean i can i can read the rule uh 12th man holder on kickoffs rule uh he's allowed to hold and then he's got to get off the field so um here's all i'm saying is is that if he takes his time he might get in the way of somebody yeah but that would be a penalty i think that would be a penalty i think so yes you can't play 12 on 11 you can't be 12 on 11 obviously

so he's got to get off the field before you know i don't know i'll find the rule and read it specifically to see what the you know the exit from the field has to look like um but no he can't oh he stumbled he fell he's the you know and here comes the return and now he's jogging off in the general direction of the returner i think that that i don't know what would happen there um yeah i'll find it i don't i don't have it in front of me but uh thanks for the call Neil Neil and Baltimore go ahead what's up Kevin thank you for taking my call sure it's real simple he sits i don't need to see him is so early on in the season is it's reminding me of rg3 and Kirk cousins we'll be the purpose of us having Kirk cousins the player always wants to play the organization the coach got to make the decision and keep him safe

okay okay we got we have a backup quarterback and my other question or or i'm thinking it's it's often ecler is wasn't he like a backup quarterback or a contingency plan quarterback at one time i'm glad we bought him back has Austin back been a contingency quarterback i don't know i honestly don't know it's a it's a good question but i don't think that's why why you sign them last Saturday no no no he's not him so he can catch that ball you sound so he can catch that ball and do the things that we need out the back fill he's a great player great player it just seems though he does get injury-pronged and he gets phased out longer in the season but we need him and i would take him on that team they go to the rescue htgrc let's go command us thanks i'm looking through i really want to find what the actual rule is for the holder now i thought there was

going to be a vote this week apparently special teams coaches hate this and they don't want it allowed if somebody's going to hold it's got to be one of the eleven players on the field it can't be a twelfth player but i'll find that rule somewhere to read it it's interesting to me and it doesn't look like eckler's been an emergency quarterback at least based on my initial search we've got some NFL buy and sell coming up and you'll hear more of what Quinn said today and today is quarterback day so we're expecting Marcus mario to take the podium after they practice kevin she and show the team nine eighty and the team nine eighty dot com what you're listening to presumably doesn't suck so neither should your sound system sonos lets you listen seamlessly from room to room same great sound expertly tuned astonishingly clear it's not magic but it's not not magic

all right before we get to uh NFL buy and sell i do have uh the rule in the rule book now there is discussion what we're talking about here is what we saw sunday with our team and what we've seen around the league it started with philadelphia a few weeks back um there is a rule in the rule book that uh allows for a twelfth man to be on the field on kickoffs to hold for the kicker on a t or not on a t uh you can do it either way um and the the reason they're using this twelfth player as a holder is not because of windy conditions where the balls falling off the tee um it's because you're allowed to and kickers believe it that a holder can hold it in a spot that the tee can't that leads to the ability to kick a ball that they call a dirty kick where it's

kind of end over and squib kick landing in that you know just beyond the landing zone beginning of the 20 yard line and it makes it harder for returners to get a handle on and to pick up so we've seen that now apparently special teams coaches do not like it and there could be a vote as early as this week to outlaw that rule and if you need a holder it would have to come from one of the other 10 players on the field as it's always had to do you know in previous years with the old kickoff rules now the rule um with respect to the holder uh so uh the hold on i had a second to go the uniform teammate may be the twelfth person visible but the rule labels him a non player so the twelfth person on the field tressway was the twelfth player on the field um is ruled as a

non player and once the ball is kicked that twelfth uniformed person deemed to be a non player can kneel at the tee touch only the ball and must depart as soon as the kick is away with T and hand to his sideline you could you there's no there's no other description of what the penalty would be if he didn't exit i guess it could be ruled 12 men on the field but i would i was hoping to see in the rule book if that player doesn't get to the sideline and 12 people are visible on the return some sort of unsportsman like conduct penalty it's not in the rule book that way there you go all right NFL buy and sell what are you buying what are you selling after three weeks

in the NFL um i'm going to start with the loss vagus raiders i am buying the raiders i bought them before the season began you know you know i did they were one of my um futures bets over five and a half wins i've seen a little bit of these games and they are impressive and one of the reasons i liked the raiders more than five and a half games to begin the season it of course was partly contingent on me understanding that cousins and kubiak together has worked and would potentially work in vegas what's been really impressive has been their offensive line kirk is in the mobile quarterback he's not mobile anymore although he did run a little bit on sunday he can move and he can move in the pocket but you've got to keep him upright and if you give him time he will carve you up because there isn't a quarterback in the game that is better many are as good but there isn't

any better at identifying what the defense is trying to do getting through his progressions and then throwing the ball accurately to the right spot but you got to keep him clean you got to keep the pocket clean i'm telling you this tyler linder bomb he is an absolute stud offensive lineman i would have paid him the money if he were i don't know that he was interested in coming here but if there was any interest in coming here i think i would have paid him whatever it took you can talk about the center position not being the most important on the offensive line with respect to physical stature in blocking it's important in other ways the mental aspects of the game but he would have been your best or second best interior offensive lineman with kazmi i would have just paid him on the basis of he's a great offensive lineman in addition to being a center so their offensive line is doing a great job and Brock Bowers it's really interesting to watch

i don't know how much of the game or highlights you saw of Brock bot Bowers first game of the season he had some meniscus cleanup which is why he missed the first two he caught 10 balls for 116 yards in the first game on sunday in new orlands and here's the thing about Brock Bowers okay he's a wide receiver he's listed as a tight end but they've got him split out as a wide receiver half the time minimum you know this is a six foot four inch two hundred and thirty five pound dude who can run and get separation this is Jordan Reed okay this is Kelsey at his best he's more receiver than he is tight end they have a pure tight end in michael mayor but he is an absolute matchup nightmare for anybody they've got two good backs and genty and the rookie from arkansas

mike washington junior their defense gives up some stuff but they make plays they lead the league and takeaways necobe dean by the way former eagle having an unbelievable start to the season max crossbees been on a snap count you know you know not playing as much of the snaps as he would have before coming off the injury but he's been dominant i think they're well coached and the key is cousins staying upright and healthy you know and them keeping him protected now they're scheduled you know they get the chiefs this week they get the patreon's bills rams those are the next four games that's a little bit different than starting with the dolphins the you know falling apart chargers although the saints were playing well and they went on the road and beat the saints in their home opener but i am absolute buying that my over five and a half is going to cash and is going to cash pretty quickly and that the raiders can actually be an a fc playoff contending team

it's not going to be with mendoza a rookie quarterback they're going to ride this out with kirk and and unless the season gets away from them which i don't anticipate it doing he's probably going to play the whole season if he's healthy now the season could get away from them because they give up too much on defense or they get injured and the offensive line falls apart and he starts you know getting harassed and there's problems there but he's been top three in the league against the blitz this year he's always been phenomenal against the blitz i'm buying the raiders to be a playoff contending team when we get to December in January in the a fc they're going to have big important games late in the season what's your first buy max you bought a three in o team i am buying an o and three team i am buying the texans yes i'm going to buy the Houston Texans they've been here before kevin it's bound to change they've they're used to this i think they can do it i trust the talent on the roster give me some texans they were all in three last year correct

i believe so i know they were all into i don't know about o and three last year they were o and three they made the playoffs yep and twenty twenty four they were no they they had a good start last year they were o and three and by the end of the year i don't think i was alone in saying that i thought that they had a legit chance to go to the super bowl uh they lost three games very competitive close games to the rams bucks and jacksonville last year uh and then they ended up you know winning twelve games so they won twelve of their next fourteen um and by the way the losses were very close losses so they were a really good football team and now you know you've had this season start with them losing to buffalo uh in that um first sunday night game of the year right it was a sunday night game uh since an adi uh and then indy on the road uh and now they've got Dallas Tennessee jacksonville the next three yeah i'm i'm with you on that i i i don't see houston going away

i don't see them going away but you know what max jacksonville's the best team in that division it's gonna be a tight race kev it's gonna be really tight coming down the stretch for the uh they have seen Jacksonville first time they play him october 18th so they go Dallas, Tennessee they they really have to win the next two they have to win the next two so that that game against jackson ville you know it's at home they can get right back into the race at three and three with a win over jacksonville head to head i love that team too i do love that team will anderson's off to a phenomenal start defensively um all right you bought the oh and three team i bought the three and oh team by the way the oh and three team is the team everybody believes in the three and oh team is a big mystery uh we've got more buys we've got more sells if you want to buy or sell anything in the NFL after three weeks a team a player anything 301-30980 we'll keep you up to date on what's

going on over in london it's the kevin she and show on the team 980 the team 980.com we're also televised every day on the internet you can watch the show on the team 980 youtube channel hit the subscribe button and hit the like button when you get there. sacred yes with me follow and listen to for the love wherever you get your podcasts. All right if you want to weigh in uh 301-30980 buy something sell something uh NFL related a team player um anything else uh so i've already bought the Las Vegas Raiders as a team that i do think is

legit good now i want to make one thing clear do i think buffaloes better you know the ravens are better the chiefs are better the jags are better in the aFC i do i just think that there is going to be some contention late in the season and games that are meaningful for you know either the division erase but more likely than not you know the the six or seven seed uh in the aFC because you can already start to look at some of these teams like the chargers who are expected to be in the mix um it's it's a loaded aFC but the patriots and chargers with the way they started you know you're gonna end up with three of the seven teams that you know in the postseason that weren't supposed to be there uh and i think the raiders are potentially one of those teams this year um i'm buying right now the one and two Atlanta falcons to be a legitimate contender in the NFC

they started oh and two they won that game at green bay on thursday night penex jr looked awesome but it's more than than you know bejohn and what i think about some of their skilled position players offensively because i'll tell you right now the combination of bejohn robinson and then drake london you've got one of the best receivers and in my opinion the best running back on the exact same team you've got to have better quarterback play and penex jr showed that he can he can sling it there is no doubt the dude can throw it of course him staying upright and healthy is crucial they've got a good offensive line they have a tight end that's talented in kyle pits but it's really their defense they became a good defensive football team at the end of last year uh and they want a bunch of games towards the end of last year and it was a rough start with kupa russia i'm actually surprised kupa russia played as poorly as he did in the first two games he was terrible

but i like the Atlanta falcons roster and i think kevin stofansky is a good NFL coach he you know one coach of the year twice in cleveland but he also was in cleveland he's in a better situation the key is penex jr staying upright continuing to develop into a legitimate starting NFL quarterback because that roster is pretty good and that division especially with tampa getting off to an o and three start and with mayfield missing the next three games that division is totally up for grabs i like the falcons to be there at the end with perhaps you know a nine and eight record and maybe a top the NFC self what else are you buying max um so this is a little bit of a weird one did you see the two point play uh in denver and la on sunday night where jail the bone x through a dot right over the head of the defender yeah i am buying guardian caps for my entire defense and i'm

telling them that they have to play with them because this throw was so tight that if a guardian cap was being worn by the player in coverage it would have bounced right off so i need my defense of players to take up as much space on a field of power how much situation yes so i'm buying guardian caps for everyone on defense from here on out i mean it still looks odd sure but competitive advantage though the safety the safety of the players are important it's it's interesting to see which players decide to wear them and which players decide not to some of the players wearing them have never had concussion issues others have um yeah um it still is tough to get you know used to but it's important for the players if they feel like it certainly adds to their safety um all right uh i got a couple of cells today my first cell and trust me i'm not selling them from the playoffs

but i don't think buffaloes are a totally well-rounded football team and i don't think that they're going to be i don't think this is their year you know and then we'll talk about whether the windows closing and all of that are there three and oh um they they turn the ball over five times against the charger defense defensively they're not very good in fact i actually kind of like the Patriots sunday to bounce back and drake made to have his first decent game since last regular season because buffalo defensively is not very good uh i think the bills are certainly in that division right now the favorite they should be uh but i don't think there is good as Kansas City i don't think there is good as Denver i don't think there is good as jacksonville i don't know that there is good as houston in terms of what houston could eventually become and i think you think they're going to become it and i do too i've not given up on the texans i don't think there is good as the ravens i'm selling buffaloes chances to be you know a deep deep into the postseason team i don't think

they've got the roster for it compared to other a fc teams i'll tell you who's got the roster for it in terms of the complete roster jacksonville does jacksonville may be the most well-rounded team in the a fc i'm selling the bills from being a legitimate super bowl contender even though i believe they are currently the favorites go ahead what are you selling um right now i'm selling the nine years they in plain nobody paul yeah but okay i'm selling public perception of the nine years is a dream in Arizona the last two weeks yeah they played the rams in australia which is kind of fluke things are gonna get a lot tougher and i like and they talk about getting injured right yeah they're still getting injured the substation is still at large and i mean right now brock party looks like an MVP candidate but i think we're gonna get a little bit of a baker mayfield style at least from last year fall off towards the middle towards and end of the season okay

so the the other cell for me is i'm still not sold on the minnesota vikings at three inno this is such an interesting situation in minnesota they have right now one of the they have the best defense in the nfl advanced numbers traditional numbers it's an interesting defense for sure because it's not the most gifted or most talented but it's clearly one of the best coached defenses brine floors is just wreaking havoc across the league i am going to be interested to see what happens down the road when they you know they've faced jordan love and they've faced calibolians and he's been really really good but they do have games against the bills and the lions obviously the lions twice the forty-niners are on the schedule and look that division right now Detroit's defense stinks green bays and shambles and chicago is banged up we'll see how they do but i'm not a believer in a team winning a division outright without a quarterback

can you be a five or a six or a seven seed one of the three wild card teams without a quarterback sure can you even win a playoff game without a quarterback sure they don't have a quarterback they're three inno without a quarterback i i don't see chile or murray or karson wence leading minnesota to fifteen wins fourteen wins in a one seed i could see them finishing you know with eleven wins twelve wins and being the runner up in the division or being the two or three seed but i don't see him as a legitimate super bowl contender a legitimate deep into the nfc playoff contender and i think the whole minnesota situation a quarterback is so interesting they don't have a quarterback under contract for next year and they have right now a super bowl defense and if they continue they have the thirty second ranked offense in the nfl and yards per play if that continues

what are they going to do what if they like i'm looking at their schedule right now okay they they've the dolphins this week there eleven and a half point favorites anything can happen in the nfl but very likely they're going to be four no and then they've got new orlands and indianapolis the following two weeks five and one what if they're five and one with still a terrible offensive football team with guys like justin jefferson on the team what are they going to do a quarterback i mean who can you go get can you trade for jacobie brisette if the cardinals are one in five six weeks into the season because brisette would be a major upgrade over what they have and by the way he would be coming from a michael affler situation into a kevin o'Connell shan shan Mcvay situation laffler situation he'd be comfortable with the offense but that situation in minnesota is so interesting because this upcoming offseason mac jones here's the

problem with minnesota they're not going to end up with a high pick because they're going to win double digit games with that defense so they're not going to end up with a high pick and be able to swing and miss maybe again on quarterback they're they're going to have to go out and either mid season this season get a veteran quarterback that they can end up signing next year or in the offseason it's mac jones it's joe flacco it's kirk cousins in a return if the raiders decide you know hey the nine wins we got this year and the contention for the wild card spot was great for nandos the starter next year the minnesota situation they have a super bowl defense and they are bottom in the league essentially offensively in yards per play so i'm selling the vikings from being any kind of legitimate contender in the nfc subject to change we'll see what they do a quarterback because at the cardinal start losing games of brisette would be a great ad to that minnesota team a geno smith would be a great ad if the jets get to one in five one

in six but they've been much more competitive put brisette or geno smith on that team and now you're talking about a super bowl contender kylah marie karson wence i don't see it what else are you selling anything else max all right uh let's get to some calls let's go rick in dc wreck rick go ahead what he buying what he's selling well i'm buying marcus mario to be and i started quarterback it didn't jaden daniel's rest and rehabilitate his elbow number one he shouldn't have made the trip that's why you have two other backup quarterbacks he's our future and he's our franchise quarterback so why are we having him as a backup so i'm buying marcus mario to i'm buying our defense

which you say minnesota's super bowl contender and column mary yeah super bowl defa apologize but i like column mary column mary to me is a better quarterback than jacobie brisette he's more mobile in he's he's a good accurate quarterback so no i think they can win with column mary if he stays healthy enough and the same thing with michael pennics i'm buying on him if he can stay healthy i mean he's a winning quarterback as well they have a great team and in lana and i love kevin kevin's advanced kid i would you proud of this last name so yes okay that's my bag i think i i totally agree with you on panics i think he's still somebody worth watching he's got to stay healthy i mean that's been his issue in college and in the pros and if he doesn't it's going to be a what if

situation i disagree with you on kai la mary i think if kai la mary was really a legitimate you know full-time starting quarterback there would have been a lot more interest in him and he might still be in arizona instead of jacobie brisette i i take brisette over kai la mary every day of the week and i would take you know smith over kai la mary i just think five foot you know seven inch five foot eight inch quarterbacks it's really really hard and as far as mario to goes look i am 100% with all of you who say if jaden daniel's needs more time to heal then of course he should be given the time to heal i don't want him rushed back if his elbow is in a hundred percent it's got to be a hundred i mean the medical people have to say there's legitimately no real additional benefit that he's going to get by waiting another week or two if that's the message he is starting sunday against the cults period he's your best quarterback he's your starting quarterback

if hey there's some benefit if you guys wait another week or two that thing's going to get healed up and it's going to be better for him both short-term long-term well then he's not playing he's sitting he's ruled out not being a backup not being anything uh i hope that that's the mindset the the idea i just cannot wrap my head around the idea of he's ready to go but we're gonna we're gonna put him in a backup role no if he's ready to go he plays period for me uh let's go to jeff in viana jeff what are you buying what are you selling NFL wise say kevin uh much like the twelve and on the field on the kickoff i'm buying the lead quickly banning the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line leg lift technique on the nose guards um explain the moment i know what you're talking about i don't know what you're talking about watch watch the film from last sunday of how they played dexter lorrence as soon as the ball was

snapped they lifted one leg off the ground and held him and it it's all over the internet and at a minimum it's a hold at a maximum you're gonna injure somebody who's that big and they did it the whole game and they got away with it yeah i'm looking at it right now interesting uh the title of it is new technique or illegal um but they absolutely you know rendered dexter lorrence as a player who didn't have much of an impact on the game okay got it uh thank you for introducing me to to that what else you got no that was that that's all thanks appreciate it jeff let's go to mark and largo mark go ahead uh uh uh kevin i mean you were brothers on this i'm buying jaden daniel's being quarterback with sunday and and dammit i'm doing this more because of that first call and jame you're all who got on and i felt network this morning and said the most idiotic thing that i've ever heard jaden daniel's arm is gonna be strapped to his rib date look at james james arm right now

does it look like a friend with rib date what did they say sorry i said what and it's our network with syna pisa and their comparing markets mario does numbers to jaden and i'm syna pisa and myself hello everybody if we get those returnovers we don't win the game there he is but no one wants to talk about that kevin you well that's your favorite line your favorite line is nobody wants to talk about that i think that three turnovers was the thing that everybody talked about uh that was the reason that won the game and everybody that watched the game said that so the idea that nobody wants to talk about the three turnovers being the decisive part of the game what is i tell you what i tell you what i tell you what pull up this kid with pull up this kid with uh enough on network said this morning about game day just pulling up max find it for what you off but but what what what was it again something about his arm being taped to his ribcage yeah it's all gonna be taped to the damn ribcage how do you want to be able to pat hand the ball

off the design and take to the ribcage and i'm gonna say something that's gonna piss a lot of women off but this is the reason why a lot of men do not like women on sports and you don't know what you're talking about but what who who said it i don't know who you better know what you're talking about okay what's that that can be another subject for another day but who was the woman who said it i don't know i love what's her face he Adams Jamie you're at all she's on nfnf word Jamie you're off i don't think i know he's a hostess okay yeah see and the other reason why she said what she said was because cal brant wasn't there today cal brant i like him i like him what he's good i like i'll brand he keeps the order on that damn show i don't watch the show but she goes well what's k-atoms on max what she on now fandall yeah she's good oh she's fun for sure all right uh mark thank you for that that's his move isn't it nobody wants to talk about a

kevin nobody wants to talk about the three turnovers on sunday that's all anybody was talking about after the game i i think i can't imagine that you watch that game and said that the three turnovers weren't the number one reason they won the football game of course they were one less and they lose the game plus two they lose the game plus three they won by two um all right who's this last one jerry jerry go ahead jerry joe jerry joe go ahead i got you what are you buying what are you selling all right i think i lost an eckler what all of a sudden back man that's great all right that's definitely add some excitement to the uh passing game and uh yes the running back but now i've been thinking about this markis mario to start we tell him he's starting jayla's the back up

and they just pan on his face about second quarter and just watch him bite in his lip and tap in his foot and then they just bring him in and he lights it up for fifty how about that i'm hanging up and listen to take care of my if that's the result i'll take it i mean i don't know why you would do that but if if you're if that's the result and that's the the vision that you have i'm all in on it sunny styles named nfc defensive player of the week uh the 39th time a Washington player has received the nfc defensive player of the week honor since the awards inception in 1984 styles is the first Washington player to earn the honor since ryan carigan won the award week one of the 2020 season and the first linebacker to win the award for the team since keen and robinson won the award in

week seven back in 2014 uh first rookie defensive player in washington history since brion or rack po did it in 2009 sunny styles was outstanding sunday and he gets recognized as the nfc defensive player of the week that's not the nfc defensive rookie of the week the nfc defensive player of the week goes to sunny styles um another result that came out of sundays game was people talking about one of the two coordinators and what his next job might be i'll explain when we return all of our nfc coverage and conversation on the team nine eighty is presented by xfinity score the most reliable wi-fi one price five years guaranteed xfinity imagine that

on reddit true crime doesn't come from journalists it comes from the victims the witnesses and sometimes the suspects themselves every Tuesday on crimes of reddit we read these posts out loud i'm subruna de aniroga and i'm a lexas link letter one of us brings the story the other goes in blind reacting in real time just like you new episodes dropped every Tuesday listen to and follow crimes of reddit available now wherever you get your podcasts so the win over Seattle with a backup quarterback even though that backup quarterback was marcus mario da got some people in the business talking about the new offensive coordinator david blow this was fill sims and mike florio and pro football talk suggesting that blow could become a head coaching candidate in twenty twenty seven i got to go with the commanders you're taking on this incredible defense

the saddlesy hawks and marcus mario to step in and is the backup quarterback nobody expected much of anything and it was this epic back and forth like like i couldn't believe how exciting it was and david blow got a lot of love from michaul on on half time at the sunday night game david blow the offense coordinator you have a few more games like that we're going to be talking about david blow is the youngest head coach in the NFL yeah maybe i mean the that that was impressive there's no doubt mario to look really good uh the that david blow mario to becoming the captain for the year which is an odd thing i don't even know what to make of that uh all interesting when you talk about washing i know what to make of it yeah what do you know what to make of it hey jaden take your time take your time yeah or if you take too much time take take the rest of the season god man thanks florio yeah that's gonna happen yeah marcus mario to jaden we're no surgery

no injured reserve we're just gonna keep you as kind of the backup third stringer for the rest of the year idiotic um yeah already talk of blow after by the way blow after one week or even after two uh who knows after beating seattle and it was impressive i loved a lot of the stuff i loved the quick game i loved just the idea that blow understood um how to game plan around what was kind of a mismatch in the trenches you know a makeshift offensive line against one of the best delines in the league and they had you know the ability to move the ball not you know all day long they didn't generate a lot of yardage offensively but two big chunk plays were were there for diami brown and terri mcclorn they just couldn't get the feet down that would have certainly added to the day uh look blow was a guy that was sought after after he was the assistant quarterbacks coach

in twenty twenty four okay so we've known this about him um he still has to do it he still has to get results you know the kind of results that everybody says well you know obviously they they won eleven games and this guy is the next guy you know off of the ben john sentry um i he's got he's got a lot more to go you know i was looking at um when you told me that that for you and sim said this you know there are some names already you know first of all you're going to have guys like mike tommelin and shan mcdermott you know available next year you know and i think a lot of people believe that tommelin's going to coach again i don't know if you will or won't and and i think a lot of people believe that shan mcdermott could get a job uh again um as you know guys that were uh tommelin you know leaving the situation but perhaps wanting to get back um but you're going to have a lot of these coordinators already with the way some of these offenses

uh clay kubiak is the o c for kyle in san francisco uh clint kubiak last year in sial with the champs clay kubiak his younger brother all gary kubiak's sons uh gary kubiak you know long time head coach long time assistant you know off the mike shan a hand tree um he uh he's getting a lot of talk already through three weeks like look at what clint's doing in in vegas and look at what the Niners are doing and then the guy declan doil who um you know went to to ball the more there's going to be a lot a lot of talk about him uh there's going to be a lot of talk about uh the bronco zo c remember after the first game it's like uh oh shan paton's going to take the play calling back from davis web now after the last two weeks davis web is going to be a head coach and i do think the most interesting coaching candidate for twenty twenty seven and it's going to depend on

whether or not teams have him off the list of can't touch because of his situation with the league but brian floris you would think at some point just for uh in organization that says i don't care that he sued the league i don't care that he made these allegations i don't care what happened here the dude can just flat out coach and lead now there was a lot of discussion about how things went south in Miami when he was the head coach and maybe people view him as just a coordinator a damn good one but i think that's always an interesting one uh to consider as well david blow already uh making the lists of potential twenty twenty seven head coaching candidates uh the the youngest coach in the league um is joe brady the new head coach in buffalo he's thirty seven

blow is how old blow is what thirty four is that how old he is something like that um he would be the youngest coach he's thirty one thirty one wow yeah he'd be the youngest if he got the job all right um when we come back there was something dan quinn said today that had nothing to do with the current status of injured players or the preparation for the indianapolis game but i i loved the question because i think these are interesting questions to ask those who are in the arena as coaches and players uh i'll share this with you when we come back because i've got some thoughts on it too kevin she and show the team nine eighty and the team nine eighty dot com and as far as your run deep as they've done really well over the first three games they face another runner in johnathan teller what do you like about what you're seeing as far as your run defense over these last three weeks yeah i like what i'm seeing from the big guys that's

kinlaw and pain and um settle and uh total and those uh it's building a wall out on the edges with the outside backers we've seen that from them and that's going to be like at the top of the priority um johnathan their offensive line to tight ends they've done a good job in the run game and their run actions through the year shames had that background you know from indie from philly from chargers so this is a you know successful coach in that way that really has you know understanding in the run game and the run actions and that's the priority yeah big test uh sunday for this rush defense that is number one in the nfl per the dv o a metric through three weeks uh it's been a long time since washington ranked number one in anything uh per any real number uh traditional or advanced currently the dv o a errand shats is dv o a metric has washington is the number one rush defense in the league they're the number three rush defense in yards allowed per game now they are twelfth in yards per carry

six in epa expected points added uh as a rush defense uh in the nfl so some really really good signs about the rush defense here through three weeks but again as i mentioned yesterday and maybe even the day before i would just you know i wouldn't start celebrating the best run defense or one of the best run defenses in the nfl quite yet uh dallas and seattle didn't even try to run the football because they were so successful and felt so comfortable just playing pitch and catch throwing it so the cults are going to try to establish the run they're going to try to make Jonathan Taylor a big factor in the game they will be intent on trying to run the football if you see the cults come out and ignore the run that would be surprising to me um that would perhaps be a reason uh that you could say yeah they don't want to go against this defense in front or the

the other side of it would be yeah they saw the same thing that dallas and seattle saw which is they can't stop us from from throwing the football we can throw the football all over the field Josh Downs Tyler Warren you know Jonathan Taylor out of the backfield doesn't matter um but this would be you know the biggest test rush defense wise since week one and they did a good job against barkley with the exception of the one forty two yard run all right so um by the way marcus mario to addressing the media right now if anything comes out of that we will share that with you i did also just want to mention the john kine wrote a story after uh kvin spoke uh this morning in london and um you know he's it kine mentioned two things that i don't think we've talked about number one is a quote from kvin we won't put him out there before he's ready you know which of course i don't think anybody wants him out there before he's ready they're trusting the process him being back on the field

will be a good step for us but we're not putting him back out there until he's ready cleared medically and then the other thing kine this was a uh kine commenting on that the brace on his left arm and we've seen some of the video and i tweeted out retweeted reposted uh a niki jibbala video from earlier uh john described the brace leaving his arm slightly bent and what we know about that potentially is what the orthopedic surgeon uh told us last week about the braces and what they can do with the braces and how these settings of the braces um can you know uh impact the mobility of the elbow and he suggested that they should set it so that the left arm can't be extended fully because the elbow gets dislocated more times than not when the arm is extended fully and you come down on that arm extended fully it's if it's at an angle a 30 degree angle or whatever

the angle would be there's much less chance of the elbow dislocating so i do wonder with a brace that leaves the arm slightly bent and not being able to extend out fully uh maybe um wrong but if that's the case you know does the playbook have to be altered a bit how do you deal with those left handed playfakes those left handed zone outside zone runs or playfakes where you're stretching that left arm out you guys understand that outside zone run that quarterback under center he is reaching out to try to hand the ball off as the runners already out near the tackle at that point so yeah some of those things so um totally off the subject of the game itself Dan Quinn was asked by and i don't know who asked this question i did not recognize the voice David Harrison maybe mechs who was it David Harrison wsa 9 and locked on commanders oh okay uh David Harrison from

channel nine asked the question um it's an interesting question he's talking about and you'll hear the question but essentially it's you know players that have the clutch gene that we all talk about his fans is that something they have innately or can it be developed so you'll hear the question and then Dan Quinn's answer good afternoon coach after you David Harrison wsa 9 locked on um we've heard the clutch gene discusses a lot of times mostly media do you believe that clutch is something that a person is or is something that a player can learn to become i think it's a lot like leadership it is something that you can be developed with but you do have to be in those environments and stressful spots to feel comfortable doing that and we try to make those as at practice as much as we can so when we do get into the game those feel more normal are they exactly the same no but when you see a guy like Terry go up forward or you know on a fourth down target it's not by accident um that he's able to deliver into those spots um because of the

work that he's put in and so i think there's some trust David that goes along with that knowing when those moments come i kind of lean into them um the best competitors do that almost to a fall like they wanted every play and that is a good thing and so when you want the ball in your hands or make the play in that spot so i think it's something to be developed but it does come from confidence in the work knowing that like you're really ready to deliver into that spot and how much of that development can be driven by the player themselves obviously to kind of have that drive to become let it run too long my fault that that's okay um there is a second part to that and i do want to hear the answer to that i i think that's these conversations are always interesting like i i um i'm a big believer that that and that this isn't the subject it's a separate subject clutch gene and then the idea that you can be you know the killer competitors you know the Michael Jordan's

the uh Kobe Bryant's uh the the the players that you just are born naturally to be killer competitive hate to lose personalities i've always felt like that is truly innate sure you can develop into a better competitor you know with more experience with more development with more of an understanding but the killer gene to me is innate the clutch gene quinn is saying is less innate and more developed and more of a product of being in those situations over and over again and then by the way having some success that builds confidence in those situations so you know is it chicken egg it's it's probably more about you know Jordan and Montana and L.A. and Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods being in those situations so many times before they were fully formed almost and succeeding

and then the confidence comes from the success that you've already had there um i think that's kind of what quinn was was uh trying to say so it is perhaps more developed than just innate there is a personality trait that you don't care what the result is you don't care what people are going to say about it that enables you to play freely perform freely without any level of concern about what the reaction will be to the result you know that the player that comes to mind for me all the time and i've talked about this forever it is very obvious over the course of his career in watching Joe Flacco play quarterback that he could not care less about what people think about the result whatever it is he plays so freely in the highest pressure moments of his career

and by the way he's failed many times in that spot but it never seems to bother him it never affects the next one some of that to me is innate personality but anyway there was a follow-up question from David Harris David Harrison from channel nine uh after quinn's answer here it was and how much of that development can be driven by the player themselves obviously to kind of have that drive to become that guy and how much of that can come from the position coaches yeah i think belief is a is a powerful part of that um we all need it you know whether it's a ball player or coach to say this is something that you can really nail and but it's up to the coaches to provide the environment for that work to take place when you start doing that in practice and you kind of get known for that and you deliver on it again and again then you can really demonstrate that to say when this time comes this is the person we need for this job and it does take time it's not a one-time

thing it's over and over but the more you deliver on it kind of the stronger and more confident that you grow. God that's so true right i mean in any aspect of life i bet many of you can i sort of identify with what quinn said it's that you have the belief because others around you have have that belief because you did get it done once or twice you know again it's probably more chicken than egg it's like you were in that situation and you succeeded for whatever reason it's because you were really talented you were really prepared whatever it was and then that just snowballs into a belief of oh i'm gonna deliver in the situation and everybody around me knows in this situation i'm going to deliver it's an interesting part of sports it's interesting part of life really in a lot of different situations just belief confidence etc and how far that can carry you you know even when you're not the most gifted or the most talented interesting conversation i don't

know why David what sparked it i'm sure he's writing something or going to do a feature on it but yeah i mean i think about you know our players on this team you know jaden is a clutch gene performer he is delivered over and over during his football playing life in clutch moments and we saw it in his rookie year and there's tremendous belief that with the game on the line he can get it done you know that he can get it done and look if the shovel pass wasn't the option on the two point conversion i bet he would have delivered with a better play call but david blow two weeks later is a head coaching candidate that's the way the NFL works all right tomorrow charge will join us denton will join us we'll have more information after another practice but maybe not the final call on quarterback on sunday back tomorrow everybody you'll catch the last hour of jp and brian
