No matter where you're watching. At the tailgate, posted up in the same lot with the same crew, since back in the day. At the bar, sitting in your lucky seat with a madella on your hand, Saturday after Saturday, or in the stands, not spilling a drop of your madella through every fan quake. Because it's not just game day, it's tradition.
Drink responsibly. Beere imported by Crown Imports, Chicago, Illinois. It's the virtue. All right, I want to do a little image changer this morning, and I'm doing it defiantly too. For years on this show, specifically Melissa Carter has called me out for being a front runner. Bandwagoner. Bandwagoner's a better term. Fear with a fan. Because I am from the South. I'm from Nashville. I lived in the Southfall my life. And I'm a huge college football fan. Went to the University of Tennessee Go balls. And so my blood runs orange. And everybody in here, like Jenna went to Florida State. I bleed garnet and gold. Florida, I was going to say Florida is Wendy's team, even though she didn't go there, but whatever. And somebody yes, Wendy's a big Florida fan. So we're going to be about Southern college football. You have the ACC and the SEC right here in the South. And so we, you know, women in the South love are football. So then Bert, West Coast Bert comes to the South. And you know, I just feel like you adopted the George Bulldogs
just because it was the popular thing to do it. Because at the time that you moved here, they were doing well. All right, let me just defend myself before I move on. Because it's graduation day today, OK? I grew up in San Diego. And I thought college football was about UCLA and USC. The Trojan's USC, the real USC. And that was the real USC. I guess what the game called the real USC can't qualify for a bulgamer national title. I don't want to count national champs. I've been shit and stuff like that. I don't want to go there and heisman trope. He's in all that. But I don't even bogged out with statistics and numbers. Yeah, because yeah, national champions the past few years have been ACC teams. Maybe I go ahead and go and get it. Not South Carolina. Anyway, we veer our subject. So yeah, when I came out here from San Diego, and I arrived in Atlanta, I am overpowered by college football. And before I was kind of, I was a pro football guy. Go chargeers, right? I went to San Diego State. Nobody, you know, three people show up to the stadium for a San Diego State game, right? So I come out here and then all of a sudden, it's about ACC football and it's about SEC football.
And I really didn't know Georgia Tech from Georgia. I couldn't tell you 10C from Vandy. You're on the West Coast. It's a completely different ballgame. You think you know college football out there? Nobody knows anything about college football unless you live right here in the South. Are you seeing that USC, the strength of schedule just sucks and that's why they're good all the time? I hope we really get to go down there. Oh, Mouya. Amen, sister. Either way, either way. Again, I don't want to count national championships and high as wins and all that. That's boring. I mean, you don't really have to play difficult teams. How hard is it to win? We can never get there. It's a championship game for the West Coast people. But you know what? But I'm agree with you guys. Yes. It's a different caliber of fan and it is a different passion in the South. You can't, it can't be argued. And let me also say that one of the reasons he's pointing me out forgiving him crap about being a bandwagoner is because when I interviewed for the job for the birch show, birch at the time had a Georgia Tech yellow jacket had on. Am I right? It was a long sleeve t-shirt, I think.
I thought you had the visor on too. You made that pose. I'm on both. I probably could have had, I didn't know any better. I just could. I just did. What? How do you do that? You can double logo along as the same team. It's the people that drive me crazy that have like a Georgia Tech visor and a Clemson shirt on at the same time that drives me nuts. Yeah, and as long as your color's much good, I mean, you might do it, but yeah, you double-loaded. But we were, and our interview, that was, you know, Bert and I were getting to know each other. They were first impression of each other. So I was always imprinted in my mind with the, you know, with the gold, you know, that is associated with Georgia Tech and the yellow jacket in my mind. So when all of a sudden you decided to be a Georgia Bulldog fan who big rivals here in the state of Georgia and Georgia, because Georgia Tech, their record wasn't, you know, I don't even know. I really good that year. He doesn't even pay attention. He doesn't care. Here's what I did. I was doing very well that year. I didn't really know about the rivalry between Georgia Tech. I didn't know how deep it ran, right? So I will agree with you on that. I did hook myself to the Georgia bandwagon because they're just, they're more passionate fans than Georgia Tech fans, football fans are,
and that can't be debated either. I mean, Georgia Tech fans might call up and say they are, but in the state of Georgia, the Bulldog fans are more rabid than the Georgia Tech fans are. Can we all agree on that? I don't know if I can. Sorry, I'm out of that. I'm a member of the ACC. So I got a lean on the side of the yellow jackets. Either way, that was my perception. So I did. I really think it depends on who has the better record to be honest with you. I mean, I date a Georgia girl, you know, a UGA girl, but I do think that if Tech had a, you know, 10 and O record, and Georgia had a two and six record, I might have gone with Georgia Tech fans being really passionate. And I might have adopted Georgia Tech at that point, but I didn't. Georgia was having a good season. I wanted to get caught up in it. So I did. I attached myself to Georgia. Yes. And now for nine years, I think I've shown you guys, I've been a pretty passionate Georgia fan. I've thrown down there for 24 hours. Georgia's done very well for the past nine years. Knowing that they were going to get their bus kicked by Florida, I still would find out. Coach Rick, you know, Coach Rick is done well with that program. So I'm just, you know, I want to shed this image.
Where do you come from? Huh? Where do you come from? Rick, Florida State. Florida State, of course. So we can have this debate over and over and over again. I've heard about my father. When do you waste clothes? When do you talk about? But here's where I'm going with this. Yes. And you and Nash will probably don't know this. And many of you here in Atlanta don't know this. I am hooking myself now to the Georgia State Ban Wagon. Georgia State has been a commuter school here in Atlanta. Since 1913. Whoa. This is the first year that they are playing college football. I am giving up Georgia and I am now hooking myself to the Georgia State Ban Wagon. And it's NCAA. And it's NCAA football and it's the Panthers, right? Yes. They are going to be part of the CAA conference in a couple of years, which is like, I think it's like Richmond and George Mason and schools like that. Okay. But that's not for a couple of years. So they're playing schools this year like shorter college and Campbell and Morehead State and Savannah State and Lambeuth.
But the last game on their schedule. Oh, this is good. And this is huge, y'all. I mean, think about this. A commuter school with 28,000 students here. Probably one of the biggest alumni in Atlanta. Yeah. And this is the very first year they've put their football team together. They've been practicing for a year now without any games. And the last game on their schedule this year is against the national champion Alabama. Wow. It's at the Lisa, right? It's in, yeah. It's at the Lisa. So, yeah. Oh, I didn't know that. I thought I would have been here. I'll never mind. I'll never mind. Right. That's a big game. Melissa and I were talking about this yesterday that I don't think I'm fairly certain in the history of the NCAA. A national champion has never, ever, ever played a startup football team. Start up team. I don't think so. I mean, because birds, the one that we were all went to lunch together yesterday and bird was the one that brought that up. And I thought that is a great point that I don't know if that's ever happened because that is pretty special.
A startup team playing the defending national champion. They broke your sports guys. Because they bought in the game. Right. They bought into the game. I think they get like a. I do think they get like millions of dollars to go in a Tuscaloosa and basically get booty handed to him this year. Oh, yeah. But it helps. Yeah, they get paid to go and play. So I'm wondering when that contractor is put in place as a before or after they won the national champion. I don't think it matters if they were the national champion. All the still Alabama. They've still been good for years. Yeah. I think the athletic director at Georgia State and the head coach said, you know what? We will take a beating in this game, but we'll be on national television. Yep. And also we're going to make a boatload of money because right now they don't have a large budget for their football team. And if $3 million is going to go a really long way to starting this program up. So it's exciting. Is it really that much money? I think it's $3 million. And if I win one or two players actually get broken in half. That's one and a half million dollars a player. So be it. It's affordable. I am proud that Georgia State has a football team.
I agree. So am I. And I am going for it. And I'm going and fully embracing it. I'm talking about going to games. I'm talking about going to Pep rallies. I'm going to be as passionate about Georgia State as I have been about Georgia the last couple of years just to prove to you guys that I don't have to start at the top. I could start at the bottom and I'm going to work my way until in 40 years where these guys haven't had some championships. He's going to be as passionate about Georgia State as he normally is about teams that are doing well. Like dogs. Now many are saying these guys probably won't win a game this season. I don't believe that's true. I think they're going to win. I think this is a pretty interesting twist. And I read this last night that they're their quarterback, transfer from Alabama. Really? They've got a dude on there. A couple of dudes from Auburn, Kentucky have transferred to play for Georgia State. So they're not pushovers. Well, they want to be superstars. They're going to go and be in a startup school and make a name for themselves. And that is the beauty of college football as you don't know what's going to happen. You have no idea. It's not nearly as predictable as NFL ball. I'm fairly certain I know what's going to happen in that Alabama game, but you just never
know. You never know. You never know. Because of no. Alabama, if Alabama underestimates Georgia State coming in there, here is our saying. Here is our fight song. This is brand new. This is the first time they put this thing together. Okay. Oh, I'm the first to be out of the season. Oh, do you have lyrics? From the 80s. I'm going to give them hell. Right? I like a theme song that cusses in the middle. Yes. We have two Gns students in the studio. Three. Three. Come on up. I want to know if that even knew they had a football tour. A fight song. I'll three. Oh, you know how we're doing that thing early in the morning where when it gets to be a cheerleader
you should see if you get to be a running back or a wide receiver. I actually might make the team. I know. The water boy. All right, which one are you guys from GSU? Tell us about it. Tell us about it. So I said, don't be shy now. You're in turn at a radio station. Yeah, you know, yeah. GSU. GSU. Are they even talking about your school on campus? Are they a football team on campus right now? Oh, yeah. They've been talking about it since January. Yeah. Since last year, they've been doing pepper alleys. You got to remember now, this has been in action now for two years. In fact, I'll put a link up to our website. ESPN has followed this program for the last two years. They did seven different segments following Bill Curry, the new head coach all the way through to right now. And say, and you should probably inform people about Bill Curry, too. He's from Atlanta back in the day, man. This guy played on the very first Green Bay Packer Super Bowl team. He's from Atlanta. He coached at Georgia Tech. He coached at Alabama. Then he didn't have such a great run at Kentucky. And then he retired. And he was actually on the consulting committee that was looking for a head coach for Georgia State.
Oh, that's cool. And then they said to him at the end of the day, they're like, why are we looking for a coach? Dude, you're the guy. You want to do it? He accepted the offer that day. That's a huge deal for Bill Curry to be the coach of the Panthers. So that's awesome. There is Melissa. Good morning. You're on the birch show. Hi. Hey, guys. Love you. Thank you. Good. OK, so I went to Georgia State. I loved it there. But you're going to have a hard time getting behind this because Georgia State has no school pride. I hate to say it. I threw a basketball event, probably 75 people showed up for the game. It was awful. Well, if you listen to the dean of the school, and I'm not sure what his name is, I think, he said that students would come up to him all the time and literally use the words, when are you going to make us a legitimate school? And what they meant by that was when are you going to get football? So this may be the thing that inserts more school pride than they had when you were going there, Melissa. Yeah, and no offense. I mean, because I just want to silver in basketball. Transpointing. So I love my basketball. But I do think when it comes to a Southern school, except for the ACC, I will say for the ACC and for Vanderbilt too, when it comes to basketball,
that has helped those programs out a lot. But usually in the South, a school is a school because they're football programs. So think about how exciting this is for the players on the team. They're going to be able to look back at this in 20 years. And let's say GSU does turn into like a powerhouse eventually to be able to say I was the first on that team. Yeah, the inaugural team. Cool. Yes. That's awesome. Hey, Ashley, good morning. You're on the birch show. Hey, guys. Love your show. Thank you. I'm actually an employee of athletic association. And I'm so glad that you're supporting us. I got you full. I got you back from now on. OK? Awesome. I'm also a Georgia grad. So I can kind of get you there too. You know, one sentence too far. I hope that UGA has an undefeated season. It will drive Burt not if he cannot reach for them. Here's my all disagree with you. If I start rooting for Georgia State and Georgia wins a national championship, it will prove that you guys that I am cursed. Seriously, come on now.
Yeah. You are pretty good. But let's not fantasize. So I haven't heard you say go panther shit. You get it. Oh, yeah. Come on. I need to learn these words by tomorrow morning. I just like the ATL hell. Give me hell. What if he used hot land in there's a white house? Then he'd be conflicted. Again, shorter college is the first game. I think it's next Thursday. September 2nd. Do I have that right, Y'all? Yes, it's next Thursday. You go to the school and you don't know when your first game is. Oh, no clue about football. I really don't watch football. You've got a clue. Go on now. I didn't get it. I didn't get it. You're the South. I know. I know. My grandfather even told me when he heard that we were getting the football team. He is a Georgia fan all the way. I mean, decked out in his Georgia gear from September until January or whenever. But he told me I needed to get season tickets. That this was a major thing for our school. Yes. Football team. All right. Well, what am I?
I'm fairly certain plenty of available right now. I'm certain. Yeah, I'm certain they're available. First game, again, shorter than Jacksonville State, than Campbell, than Morehead State. And then we got him quaking in the boots right now. That's right. November 18th. Alabama. That is the day. Go Panthers. Here's Bercia. Hey, it's Mikey and football is finally back. And prize picks is bringing out their best offer yet. New users who sign up will get $150 in lineups if you win your first $5 lineup. That's right. If you win your first $5 lineup, you'll get $150 in lineups. And now prize picks is available nationwide. So what are you waiting for? Lock in for kickoff because everyone and everything is on prize picks. So what you on this season? I'm all in on B. John Robinson. He is set to absolutely dominate the touches in Atlanta this year and his explosive dual threat play makes him a stat sheet stiffer. I'm picking more on his total yards projection.

In fact, Jeff put some great privacy settings up online on our website right now at the burkshow.com. Like you might not have heard this. But if you don't have your privacy settings set correctly, anybody on Facebook can pretty much tell where you are. Yeah. As they're rolling out this new thing called Facebook Places, the scary part is the scariest part about it that separates it from other location-based social networks is that other people can check you in to where you're not. So I could tag a couple of weeks ago, you were joking and you said I showed up at Onyx. Remember when you checked me in and you said I was at that strip club and I really wasn't. Remember that? A couple of weeks ago, you were at Onyx. What I was saying is I could check you in there like six in the morning and there's nothing you could do about it because then it would just, it would be on your newsfeed and people would look and go, what's he doing at Onyx again?
So that, so their privacy, their ways you can adjust the privacy on your Facebook page. And they're easy to follow. Yeah, it's three minutes long. But if you follow them step by step, then you can, the last step prevents other people from checking you in. First couple, prevent Facebook from just automatically updating your location as you do it. You can hide it so it's just your friends that thing or nobody. That is not the problem that Melissa Carter is having with Facebook. No, Facebook is actually, it's almost a trifecta of my manmojo. That's what I'm calling it. Okay, I am a lesbian. And for some reason, I've got manmojo here lately. First, we had taken a trip to Nashville and hung out and there was all kinds of, you know, I was getting hit on by men all over the, I have witnesses in the room. Yeah, we were there as a team and I mean, left and right all night long, these dudes, we're coming up to Melissa Carter, hitting on her own. Yeah, and let me just tell you a background on Melissa, I've not been that girl that guys hit on even when I was in the closet. Okay, so I wasn't that girl. So for it to happen now is fascinating, very fascinating. So it was the first step in my manmojo.
And then the second thing was the e-harmony we talked about. How KD Joe, my girlfriend, thought it'd be funny for me to find my perfect man on the harmony and so I went on and I've still up to this point about 40 matches on the honor. 40 matches. We get emails from people saying they've tried it for weeks and they haven't had one match. Melissa has like 40. Manmojo. So Facebook has provided me the third part of the trifecta of my manmojo and it comes in the form of an apology from a high school guy who ditched me on a date. Okay, so this guy's name is Scotty. Okay, and he was a cutie pine high school and he was going out with one of my best friends growing up, right? What high school was this? This is a central high school. Let me tell you something. And Scotty was a sweetheart and he was a cutie pine. He was popular. He was older. I mean, you know, come on. Well, in high school, we had one of those bearded dudes like in high school. It's always like one soft march. Yeah, the nice way to rest ashamed. With the mustache. Right. No, Scotty was a guy. He looks like Zach Gallifinakis and he's like, I don't know.
No, no, Scotty was a cutie. But I was one of the cutest kids in school and he was, I think, a year older than us. I don't think he's two years older than us. So anyway, so he was going out with one of my best friends since kindergarten growing up. Then they broke up, right? So anyway, so we had high school sororities, okay? Columbia, there ain't nothing to do. So we made up sororities and I was in sorority. And so we had four moles in high school where we asked the guys out, right? So I honestly didn't remember all the guys I asked out because a lot of times, especially, I mean, because in high school, I was, you know, already figuring myself out. But I, you know, you asked guys based on their popularity, how good looking they are. You know, how good they're going to look at a tugs next to you and the pictures and everything. So it doesn't necessarily mean, you know, you're going to hook up at the end of the night, but you know, it's bragging rights to be able to take certain guys to these events. And so I was thrilled when he is at the story of the lesbian who's in a committed relationship, having guys fall all over her. That's the man Mojo, see? I'm not available.
You're looking vicariously through a lesbian. Right. Not just heartbroken. Not available. That's the thing. You just, you don't make yourself available. So anyway, so we had high school sororities and I had apparently asked Scottie to one when he was single. So anyway, I had forgotten about this, right? But then I got a Facebook message the other day from sweet Scottie who said this was a long time coming. And he wrote me an apology for ditching me at this appearance, this formal that I honestly I had forgotten about. But he, I had asked him and he thought there were several molasses in my class and he thought it was another molissa asking him. And so I, I don't remember. I must have been on the phone. There must have been on the phone. And so he, because I wasn't a DJ at a time and people recognized my voice. So he, he thought it was a different molissa who he, he, he, he, he was buddies with her, her brother. So he said yes, out of obligation. And then he backed out at the last minute and then realized when he realized it was me and
not her. Oh, wow. So this is how many years ago now and he's been thinking about this? 22 years ago. 22 years ago. What'd you write back to the dude? I said, well, I told him how sweet he was and that I really appreciate the effort and the fact that he still thought about it, that he took the time to apologize and, you know, that all was cool and, you know, and then he had given me crap in the message about my celebrity status and other than I'm on the radio. So I mean, we had a little back and forth, but I just, I'm not sure who he was for doing that. You should have included a picture of you and your girlfriend Katie Jo and said, you know what you did to me. Oh, and then saying thank you again. Because I'm very happy where I am. You're on the virtue. I want to catch up with Jeff dollar for a second here. Jeff told us a while back that he was working on some scripts or some, some shows for Los Angeles that he was working with like a producer, some creators of some TV shows and sort of has just fallen off the face of the earth. Not real. I mean, it did, but I learned because the original idea happened literally years ago and I've
just learned the things in Hollywood happened. So slow. These were reality TV shows or these were. No, it was actually started as an animated TV show and now it's like a, now it's a live action concept. And so it's, I mean, there's little things trickling in and there, but unfortunately, I, I think I deleted the, I inadvertently deleted a couple of voicemails that were left for me. So I'll try to re, reenact them. Okay. The best of my ability because I think the last time I talked about this was like January or February is when I think I went out there in January because it was right around Grammy time, right? So that's January, right? So February. February. Okay. So February, I'm out in LA and having some meetings and everything's cool and then things just kind of fade away over the next few weeks until a few days ago when I get a voicemail message and it's a woman who works in the office of everybody who, of the company that is kind of overseeing the project and it's just a message that says, Hey, Jeff, this is,
you know, Madeline with blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I just want to let you know that I'm putting some contracts and FedEx to you. I need you to sign those as soon as possible and get them back to me. There's also going to be a check in there. The check is valid, but legally you cannot deposit it until we verify that we receive the checks back. So please do that. Congratulations. I know it's been a long process, but congratulations on your new show. Thank you. Bye. I'll do later that. Hey, how do you delete something like that? Because about a minute later I got another voicemail, Hey, Jeff, this is Madeline a blah, blah, blah's office. I really apologize, but I called the wrong Jeff. Oh, no, no, no. You're kidding. That sucks. Oh, no. Oh, that's messed up. Oh, that's awful. For a moment, you're like, you're so cool. Yeah, I'm going to show. A little buddy. I could put my arms all the way around you and hug you. I kick right in the sack. Oh, that was a Jimmy. So I'm like, and that came out of nowhere.
I'm like, what a check. What contracts? Congratulations. That's so. And then you failed wrong Jeff. Sorry, sorry, wrong Jeff. Pound idiot. Plumber. Listen, it's the virtue. You're worried about this. Who's asking if he's kicking? I wish it were that way.
I wish that was the problem, right? No, it's the other way around. And it's sort of this conversation that's been going on the house now for the last three days. What's happening? I want to be really careful about it because I know that we have some of the staff at his school that listens. And I'm doing this early because I don't want them to intervene yet because I want him to figure out how to deal with this by himself. But there are a group of kids that he used to go to school with last year that were in his class. And now they're in a different class this year, but they're all in recess together. And they were all hanging out. There's one bad apple in this group of three. There's one alpha dog. And the other two kids last year were really cool kids, but they've gone over to the alpha dog side. Ganger forming. So gangs are starting to form. The pack mentality has started to form, right? And a couple of days ago, I was just sort of talking to Hayden about what's going on in school, sitting them down and stuff. And he started to tell me about it that these three kids will pull him aside. And they're saying like really mean things to him.
The other day, the first day is, hey, Hayden, we're going to teach you how to be a man. Because right now there's a scale. And there's man at the top of the scale. There were a couple of things underneath man. And then it was Wimpy Kid and Nerd were at the very bottom. And they labeled Hayden in the Wimpy Kid part of the whole equation. So and then they started making fun of his height and said that the only reason why people like to hang out with him is because they think he's a preschooler and he's small and stuff like that. So they've been saying some really mean stuff. Seventh graders? Seven-year-olds, right? Second graders, right? Second graders. Second graders, right? Second graders. Wow. So it started a couple of days ago. And I said to him, well, why are you hanging out with him then? Because there are some deeper issues that are going on here. Because this was actually the second day that they were being nasty to him. I'm like, so why are you hanging out with him if they're saying nasty things to you? And he said he didn't want to hurt their feelings. It's all logical to us, right? The obvious answer is, well, if they're saying these nasty things to you, they're not really
caring about your feelings. So why would you want to hang out with somebody like that? And he said, I just want everybody to like me. So now we've gone in that direction now, right? Jeez. So I had to explain to him how that's just impossible, man. There's just, you're never going to go through life where everybody's going to like you as I used Ryan Seatrest as the equation. I said to him, who's the most likable guy in the United States of America? And he's like, Mike Lohan. Mike Lohan. Right. He's not even the most popular guy in his own house. He said Ryan Seatrest. So I said, there you go. It's a perfect example. Here's the guy's got great hair, great teeth, great personality. Everybody loves this guy, right? But I can go online right now to a whole bunch of message boards and I can tell you right now there's going to be a whole bunch of people that are saying really, really, really mean things about him. There's just no way everybody's going to like you, right? Man, he had a really tough time dealing with that concept. I think his dad's struggling with that his whole life. So I think he's got the dad gene right there. So this is like a really important lesson for me to teach him now. Because this is one that can really handicap you later on in life, you know?
And the sweet thing is probably thinking, well, they make me feel bad and I don't want to make somebody else feel the way I'm feeling. It's exactly how he feels. He's so precious. He's been so nice too. I want to go kick those little kids butts right now. Well, that's a question I have later on in the show. But he's got to kick their butt. That's what I think. So I'm like, so what are we going to sew every day right before he goes to bed? We come up with a game plan of what he's going to do at recess. So the first night, it was, you know, basically tell them, okay, look, I'm going to go okay, look, because I'm making them like do push ups and sit ups to become higher on the man list, right? So I say to him, like, I'll tell you what tomorrow, let's do this. Why don't you go ahead and stand your ground if you want to. I'm not telling him to do anything. I'm telling him, look, we got a couple of decisions to make. Either you can go and hang with them or you can continue, you know, sort of like this verbal abuse that's going on. Yeah, that is a decision that you can make or we can try this tomorrow. And you could say, look, I'll do those once I see you guys do them. Like who puts you on the man scale? So you guys go ahead and do your push ups and you go ahead and you kick the soccer ball into the net as hard as you say that I'm supposed to and when you do it, then I'll do it.
So that was the game plan going into day two and he didn't execute it. So this morning, there's a third part to it that I'll have to get into in just a couple of seconds, but he has another game plan that he's going into the morning with today. We'll see how it's executed. Poor thing, but he's got to get out of the way now and then he won't, it's not a lie. That's totally what I'm thinking. I'm going to do the same stuff. Hey, Amy, I only have a couple of seconds here. So I want to tell you that you won tickets to Ringling Brothers. Thank you. You're welcome at the Arena Equinette Center and you've qualified for the grand prize also, which is a thousand bucks over at Brandsmart. Oh, thank you guys so much. I love your show. Thank you. Appreciate it. Hold on and we'll get some more information. Of course, we'll do that tomorrow as well. So I was just telling these guys that I'm we're dealing with bullying now for the very first time in my house with my seven year old. So on day two with this whole bullying thing, what was the advice? Oh, it was, you know, what you don't have to hang out with these kids, but he wants to hang out with these kids because he just wants to be liked.
And I'm like, well, if you're out in recess first, just go and hang with some other kids. Never even dawned on them that that could be an option. You know, what are these other kids? You mean to find other kids? You're like, yeah, you find kids smarter than you and you make them do the push. Well, these kids are probably following him around. So he thinks that's his only option, right? Because they're they're seeking him out to pick on him. I didn't know that, but what he said was, no, he's been hanging with them voluntarily. But the game plan on Wednesday into Thursday was just go hang out with the different set of kids. That's all you got to do. So he started to do that yesterday and these three pulled him away from the others, right? Literally pulled him away. And he said they didn't say anything nasty or anything to him yesterday. And they were actually pretty good with them. But I said to him that that was probably temporary. So it's going to happen again that if you start playing with these kids, they're going to say nasty things to you. So let's come up with a game plan for today, which is this morning. And let's say they start playing with you and they get mean with you.
What are you going to do about it? So game plan today is he says, if you guys are going to say mean things about me, I'm going to go play with my other friends over there and then he's going to walk away. And they're going to probably go and chase him down and pull him back. And I said, tell them one more time that if they say nasty things to you that you're not playing with them. So I'm assuming that's going to happen and they're going to pull him physically back into the group. And then he punches them. No, we're not a punch yet. But that's what I'm going this later on. And then I just said, at that point, if they put their hands on you the second time and pull you back, then you go to the teacher. But his go to answer in the beginning was, well, I'm going to come home and tell mom, and I have mom call their mom or it was, I'm going to go straight to the teachers. And I said, Hey, and we're getting an age now, man, where you can't handle things that way. That's the easy way out, man. And the much harder thing to do is confront these guys and handle it because this is the one time I told them. That's, that's it. He'll have the repetition being a big kid then. Yeah. And you're teaching them to stand up for himself. Right. You know, which I think will increase his confidence level and trying to teach a kid about self respect at seven years old.
You have to pick and choose your words so carefully because they just don't have a concept to all that stuff just yet. Yeah. There's no manual that comes that tells you what to say and what not to say. Yeah. I think my theory on the whole thing is, let's present a couple of different blueprints for him. Mm-hmm. Going into the day and he gets to choose which blueprint he wants, he may take the route that I'm just going to give up today and let them beat up on me a little bit. But at least he knew what else he could have done. Mm-hmm. And then we'll see how it progresses. But today it's, it's pull back day. Is he coming to you every day to explain what's happened or you haven't had drawn out of him? Um, it's been much easier the last couple of days. I didn't know anything about it and then out of nowhere he sort of started talking to me about it. I guess it was on Monday night. Mm-hmm. But at that point it must have been going on for a week. And what's the difference in your reaction and Stacy's reaction? She and I haven't been in the house at the same time to talk to him mostly about it. So I think in private conversations between she and I, she's a little, she's a little more aggressive in, um, in her advice to him.
Which is what? What did she say? Uh, I'm not exactly sure what the advice was. It was more the way she was saying it. Like I remember just sitting there listening to the advice going, wish she was just taking it a little, a little less aggressively. Okay. But that's how Stacy and I both deal with life. I think that she attacks it just. I'm going to pow through it and I'm like, all right, let's take a look at it from a couple of different angles. I don't want to push you into any answers, but I'm sure I'd like to try to guide you. But I think we're pretty much on the same page. When we, when we signed off with them last night, that was agreed upon by all three of us. Like, you know, that's a pretty good plan. If they pull you away two times, then go to the teacher if they get physical with you. Have you considered sending him to school with some not hardcore, but just like soft core pornography? Because that always makes young boys popular like a playboy. God. Hello, Katie. Come on. You're on the virtual. I mean, it is six of four in the morning. I'm a teacher. I'm listening. And this is just breaking my heart. I'm sorry. I'm a teacher listening to this and it's just breaking my heart to hear your story.
Oh, it's happening on your playground also. Yeah, it's, I mean, it's really it is. It happens on every playground and every night. It's my playground. It's just really sad that it is going on, especially with everything about the bullying issue right now. I mean, there's laws about that. Yeah, and I don't know that you could physically like, it's a real fine line to walk. Like he's not getting beat up. We're not in a stage where he's getting kicked or anything like that. But I think it's a really critical stage where he's got to learn right now what to put up with and what not to put up with, you know, it's enough to bother him. I agree. Yes, it's bothering him, obviously. Oh, yeah. It's emotionally going to break him down and to be so young and going through that. I mean, the second grade, I teach fourth grade and I thought they were bad. So I can imagine second graders knowing to even refer to somebody from a man to a wimpy kid on a scale. It shocked me. Yeah, it really did. You know, like wimpy kid, of course, the diary of wimpy kids come out. So I think wimpy kid is a part of the vernacular now, you know, so that's a book that's come out.
So yeah, I mean, but I think it, yeah, I'm not surprised at something that young because I just, I remember getting to kindergarten, getting tied up to a pole and left. Oh, no. I'm a coordinator. Two guys. No, wonder I'm gay. No. But, but yeah, I mean, kids, when they're young, just kind of reflect where they come from and, you know, they kind of take it out on people, you know, their new social environment. And with girls too, when I was growing up, it was, I think in her grade level, about fourth grade, it was started to be a gear included or your left out. That was the girl bullying. Like you were cool enough to be in this group or you were rejected from this group. Oh, I got it. I got it. Yeah, yeah, or get up from the lunch table and walk away or you can't play with us. It was, you know, it's like that group mentality, but it wasn't more like physical challenges. And I think that, you know, maybe Hayden has an easier job of standing up for himself because it can be more in the physical realm than it is like in the, like to me, like young girls are just more snarky.
Well, that's what you're saying now. They will give a silent treatment to a girl they don't like and it's, you can't, yes. Yeah, and that's a emotional, you know, that hits you in your heart when you're a little girl. Covert when it's girls. It's not like you push up and sit down. It's like we'll turn around and walk away to pitch pitcher back on somebody and walk completely away from them by themselves standing in the playground. Right. And remember I had this fear a couple of months ago because Hayden is the littlest one in his class. And he's not an athletic kid yet. You know, he doesn't do sports. So he's not going to get accepted that way. And in the guy's world, that is hugely monumental. And if you're not that kid, then you're sort of a target. And we're starting to see like it's the survival of the fittest right now. So it's absolutely heartbreaking when your kid is starting to tell you the tale and you can see the tears well and up in his eyes. Oh, poor thing. He can change it. He can change it. We'll see what he does today. Hey, Brian, good morning. You're on the birch show. Good morning, man. I love the show. Thank you. Appreciate it, man.
And I'm going to ask you a question. I'm going to ask you something. We actually have a, or her nine year old son has been taken on in school for the past two years. These kids on the school bus have been hitting them with pencils and calling them fat and calling them the gay word. You know, just really hand them down. And we actually try to go to the school and try to deal with it that way. And they still do it. And I had to pull them aside and say, you know, sometimes you told me you wanted to be a man. And sometimes being a man, you got to say enough is enough. And I told him that put them aside and said, you know, you got to face your own consequences. Your actions have consequences. And I said, one, if they keep picking on you and you feel like you can't do anything else and the teachers aren't doing anything, you go up there, you stand in front of them, you hit them really hard. And if you hit them really hard, you know, you're going to be in trouble. You know, that's the choice that you got to make. But you will not be in trouble in our house because you stood up for yourself. There was no other actions that you can take. And it's at this age that, you know, they got to start doing that. That's a country side right there.
I'm not promoting fighting, you know, and I really, I told him that's the last choice. I always do not want you to fight. Do not want you to do anything. But sometimes, like I said, enough is enough. I agree. Don't start a fight, but finish it. I agree. That was the role in our house, you know. Yeah, and I don't consider this. And I've been reluctant. I know because there are some people calling up right now saying you need to get the teachers involved. I just don't want to be at that stage yet. There will be a stage, I think, when I want them to know. But right now in this infantile sort of bullying thing, I just want him to be able to stand his ground and sort of get that confidence. So it never happens again. I don't want him to know. He already knows he can go to the teachers. His mother has been telling on that for years and years and years that if anything happens, you never get physical. You go to the teachers. But I told you guys at Stacey and I had a conversation about this over the summer. And we've had a philosophical shift now. Now the shift is you stand up for yourself and then you go to the teachers. He's older. I mean, I think that shift changes when he becomes a little boy and he's not a baby anymore. Right. That's our theory on it too. Look, we don't know what we're doing.
No, no, it's our seven-year-old. Yeah. No, apparently. Can you send him to school with Hollis? Because Hollis will beat some ass. That's true. I don't know that I'm going to have this problem with Hollis. Maybe the call from the teacher saying Hollis is bullying in some way. Yes! And I may have to take this from the house. That's my three-year-old. Hey, Lisa, good morning. You're on the birch show. Hi. Yeah, my daughter was bullied last year too. She was second grade last year. And I'll tell you, girls can be pretty mean too. Yeah. They would pull it in the bathroom and be where the teacher couldn't see. And just make fun of her. One out of day, it was just one girl, thank goodness. And she's got really meat and she didn't tell me for weeks. So I felt terrible when I finally found out. And I did tell the teacher right away. And actually it was handled pretty well. And I did tell my daughter also, look, you need to stick up for yourself. And tell her, you can't, you know, don't do that to me. And the teacher actually handled it really well.
I mean, in second grade, that had a big impact on the kid that was doing it. Is that right? She handled it well. She pulled the kid aside and said, this will stop. And it never got to the point where parents were really involved. Well, I mean, if we can't handle this by ourselves for sure. I mean, and we're not talking a long period of time here. At least our third is then you go to the teachers and say, we need your help here. But I at least want him to start the whole thing by himself. A great, totally great. We heard this great bullying story a couple of weeks ago. Remember from that one woman that emailed us? Now these were older kids. She went to the bullying kids and asked for their help almost. Got them on her side. Right. I gave them some authority. So it was more of a team thing than it was me against you. So we'll see how he handles it today. And I'll fill you guys. I'll fill you guys in. My first reaction always is when he walks in the door. He's immediately going up to the door and go, how to go today, dude. But I'm trying to be cool about it. And I'm saying it in past. And so what happened on the playground today? But it's like on my mind all the time. Because you don't want him to feel like you're disappointed in him.
If he doesn't stick up for himself, then it's, then he wouldn't have anybody to talk to about it. Yeah, there's a whole bunch of messages that seem to be going on. It's like you, you know what you want to do. It's all laid out in front of you. So one message is, are you sort of executing it properly? You knew what the right thing was to do. And if you didn't, there are actions for every one of those decisions you could have made. That's another lesson going on here too, you know. Complicated, man. That is so bad for you. I just want to hug him. I hope you're all right. You might have a confused message. You may try to hug him and he'll punch you right in the face. Now he's fine. I'd be proud of him. I'd be so proud of him. Get it? The first show. Hey, it's Mikey and football is finally back and prize picks is bringing out their best offer yet. Melissa Carter's world changes today and not in a small way in what could be a large way. Melissa Carter gets a blackberry today. Yes, I just followed it and followed it and followed it. Yes, I have. Well, but it's, but it hardly commercials and I feel like I need to be your wing one, but I'm with Metro PCS and I've been with Metro PCS for years. I endorse them. I authentically use their phone. I mean, I have a lot of people say, well, you just, no, I authentically use Metro PCS service.
I have their phone. Since I've been on the birch show and they just got the new blackberry curve. So I think because Mike, the guy, you know, he, Metro PCS, one, he always gives me hard time about being in Tennessee ball. And so now I think because he's heard how much crap I've given blackberry users over time because Kate, even my girlfriend Katie Joe is a blackberry user for a long time that, you know, now he's like, oh, well, guess what, Melissa, we're going to give you the blackberry. So today, yeah, we are meeting and he's going to give him a blackberry. So this is your call. And this is the curve right here. So I'm going to be a blackberry user now after today. You've got to know the history here with Melissa Carter. The history here is that she's hates blackberries. I mean, every time her girlfriend is on it, annoying that red light starts to blink a little bit and Katie Joe picks it up. Melissa gets annoyed by it. So she's been anti anti anti now. And that's the reason it has always say and I've given Jeff Dollar Crap for this very same thing because he, having been a former blackberry user that, what's that? Former blackberry user that he, if we venture into Bizarreland, I forget, remind me what
phone I'm carrying now. I can't say it right now. Oh, okay. I believe we're talking about the iPhone that I've made the switch to. And I am going to have a blackberry today. And so hell has frozen over. But it really has. But yeah, you see Jeff Crap too. Yeah, if you're a new listener because I felt like blackberry users are the, some of the most rude people because of the way that they use their phones. I can't disagree. And I've said that for a long time, I'm being authentic. I've said it for a long time. So yes. So now I think in order to, I guess, reform my feeling about blackberry users. Not only am I going to sell you blackberry through Metro PCS, I'm also going to be an owner myself. So yes. What's your, what's your dude's name? My, Mike, Mike. Because Mike and I, he's coming over today to help me make Christmas cookies. Would you like to join us? Oh, I'm getting it. Cause you're selling out on the blackberry. I mean, why not? Now you're selling out on your holiday. There we go. There we go. I love the blackberry. You're going to love it. There you go. I am loyal to Metro PCS. It's not selling out. Yeah, I, that is fun. Whatever it is. That is correct.
And I'm a salesperson for them and have been for years and now they have the blackberry curve. So you're going to love it. It's going to be an upgrade in your life that will improve your life. I promise you. It's hard to control though, Janet. Really is hard to just dab. I'm not girlfriend. I'm not girlfriend. I'm going to have BBM now. Oh, no, they're not. Why? Cause Katie, you don't know what a user's a blackberry. Why not? She's another. She's another phone. Oh, wow. I'm glad you called that out of my home. I use the PCS service and I haven't sold my girlfriend. I'm using the PCS service. You trust great. Thank you for that. But yes, today is the day that it Mike. Yes, I love you, Mike. I love you, Metro PCS. And I will be accepting your blackberry curve today. Hold on, man. So this afternoon, I will be graduation and authentic blackberry user. Hey, the bird show.
