Fashion is a complex set of ideas, interweaving the material with the perceived. It elevates clothing from necessity to statement, deciding what's acceptable and what's unacceptable. For instance, fashion told me it wasn't appropriate to wear my Lucy Letby costume to my nephew's first birthday party. You can throw all the cocktail sausages you like at me, Melissa. I'm at least staying for past the parcel. But whether we like it or not, our clothes become a statement of who we are. A suit symbolizes power and authority, shorts are for lazy perverts and wearing a vest means a gay. But as we've moved our entire useless existences onto the internet, we've seen the trends of fashion rising and falling even faster. It can be dizzy into trying to keep up. I barely got my Kravat measurements spot on and now all of a sudden I'm meant to be wearing a girdle. No one's got time to keep up with these fashion do's and fashion don't. Instead I stick to fashion wheels and fashion won't. For example, I will dress up as my uncle at home by myself every weekend, but I won't enjoy doing it. But in a much larger sense fashion is an entirely human creation. You can't fabricate without a bit of fabric.

And although our clothing practices may seem constant, we fundamentally make it up as we go along. An idea that the bounce of my local Tesco should remember when he refuses me entry for having cellar tape bread across my nipples, penis and bottom. Although I wouldn't recommend wearing anything that could be confused as prodused at the store you're in as you may have quite the interesting time at the self checkout. So is fashion really the key to our self expression or is it just putting fabric over our genitals? Who decides what's fashionable and why are they all insufferable? Can we slow down fast fashion by putting some brakes on it? And is fashion simply another way of categorising and subjugating the general population? Tell me on some of these questions I'm joined by Charlie Milner, who verbally abuses elderly public transport workers like it's going out of fashion. Charlie, thank you for joining me. Thank you for having me. Charlie is fashion here to stay, would you say, said clay? Fashion isn't going nowhere. Interesting, your thoughts on why. I'm very grateful for that. Why? Why is it wise because we need clothes, Andrew? Is there a difference between fashion and clothes?

They're inextricably the same t-link. I'd argue they're different, Charlie. Well, I mean, fashion's more of an idea. Clothes is the kind of meat. You know what I mean? It's like we're dressing up my baby in fucking T.R.A.R.S. Not sure what that means. The baby is the model. The T.R.A.R.S. are the clothes and the kind of idea of power is the fashion. The baby's the model that T.R.A.R.S. are clothes. And the idea of power is fashion. Fashion is a toe. Because the baby's wearing a T.R.A.R.A.R.A.R.A.R.A.R., she's a powerful baby. He certainly is. That's what fashion is the idea behind that baby being powerful. Could we ever be scared of a baby? Yes, we could. Chuckie. No, I'm talking about like real life babies. Yeah, you could be, really? Yeah. If it was, if it meant a baby... Catch a baby in the wrong light, there's some scary-looking babies out there. Ugly babies. Yeah, babies are used in horror films you'd see and pop up behind a bed, or in front of a... Let's have a look at some ugly babies. Let's not do that. I do find all babies are kind of like, they're meant to be sweet, but I do find that they're basically repulsive to their about two.

Do you agree? They're like doby. That's pretty scary that one. That's just a fake baby. Let's not look up fake scary babies one minute into this episode. But interesting points on fagias between these babies. That one's got, ugh. Star. I don't know if that's true. I think some babies, there is a, there's a, they're disconcerting. They're so like, they feel like played I put together and it's like, I guess you're a human. So I think maybe two is a, I think maybe two is a human. Some people ain't kind. Some babies ain't scary. I lost my child. I think two is probably a bit too old. I think they start, you know, once they start bobbling about a bit, that's when they're kind of a bit of fun. Do you know any two year olds? I know one year old. Okay, you raised me one year old. I think, okay, I don't know any zeros. So you win. Brilliant. I'm glad I won that. Devastating competition we've just had. I do a lovely two year old, I could you know. And if I have a baby, I want him to. What about Dana or even Meena?

Meena is, Meena's a name. You want to hear my friend? But she's 30. But she's 30. But she's 30. Was that she was a baby as a, we were all babies and it's undeniable that we were. Listen, I will. Brateli, the fashion at hand. Fashion's at hand, fashion's at first. And we've got our best, deductive on the case, detective fashion. We like to make a particular shout out down the barrel, please, Andrew, to fruit of the loom. No, charming of the brands. I am constantly warning you about this becoming a tourist podcast where we like fruit of the loom at. I actually don't know what it is. Isn't that just where you get t-shirts from that you can kind of do what you want? They're the best t-shirts. They're just kind of like, it's kind of play-dough clothes. It's like, it's just all plain t-shirts. Oh, these ones. I just think there's something we're like. Oh, yeah, wait, it's like. If you want to start a fashion brand often, you use fruit of the loom to put your own logo on it, right?

You just charity shop clothes that will have this. I had a poem about fruit of the loom actually. It goes, I think it goes, er... Are you ready? Are you going to do it properly? I'm going to try and run it down the barrel. She wears Prada. He wears fruit of the loom. I'm the fattest in the room. I've heard this one. I've astonishingly, I've heard this one. That'll be all. That one's out to fruit of the loom. Oh, that's it. That's it, I think. Yeah, I'm the fattest in the room. I'm the fattest in the room. I remember you saying that a lot about a year ago when we were setting up for vocals. I'm still on that. I'm still on that. I do like to say it again quickly, just something. She wears Prada. He wears fruit of the loom. I'm the fattest in the room. Yeah, I mean, you're touching on kind of the distinction between class and different, what clothing... We will get onto him. What kind of clothing suggests about people and whether it's a symbol of wealth and power as it has been historically and even in the modern day. But then you kind of end with you being fat or something in the room. I am not entirely. Which will cover as well. We will. It's important. So I'd like to introduce a bit of news on this one

because I am the fashion boy. Are you? Are you self-employed fashion? Am I not? I thought you Zellow was. When did I say you were? Before the poor people. I've never said that to him once. He promised I was a good boy. You want to be fashion boy? You can be fashion boy. Yeah, I'll buy a fashion. Excuse me? And I want to tell you about something, Andrew. Please, it's news time. Okay, out in the wild, Matt, hit the link. No link ready whatsoever. This is not interesting. Some news that come online only yesterday. Interesting, we've got up to date news. Mike Ashley's son-in-law, Michael Murray, named Hugo Boss Chairman. Now, let's hope that he doesn't run it into the ground like Mike Ashley did for Newcastle United. I see. I do have a bit of concerns for Hugo Boss, but there's such a big brand that it's probably all right. It's Mike Ashley, the ref. No, it's the owner. He has seen a lot of us. Owners Newcastle. He owns Newcastle. He used to be, I think, X-Ref. X-Ref. X-Ref? No, sorry. Never ref. There's a never ref that owns Newcastle.

Everybody was like, can you fuck off? You see, is there not like Saudi Arabia shit? Yeah, yeah. He sold them, everyone hated him. He sold them out. Now his son-in-law is the new Pugo Boss Chairman. Now, what are your thoughts on that? I'm thinking they're both called Mike, which doesn't matter. Yeah, quite, quite common. Farther son. The fact that Mike Ashley's son-in-law is the Hugo Boss Chairman gives me the Hebe G.B.s, because I've got fears for Hugo. You've got Hugo Boss guy. I like Hugo. I think it's a good name and a dependable brand. They're not, I mean, fruit of the loom are not pretending to be Hugo Boss. They would never even dream of it. They're being fruit of the loom. Hugo Boss, in a way, are kind of held captive by their brand image. They're trying to be these like very, very cool guys. That is like, just get some, I'm just getting some fucking, get some plain t-shirts and slap them out on the shop. So you've managed to digress into comparing Hugo Boss to fruit of the loom. You haven't really touched on your concerns about Mike Ashley's son-in-law. Well, I just think, I just don't,

I don't know, is there any nepotism here? Are they but just all counts? I imagine the sun. I imagine the sun. Michael Murray is probably absolutely terrifying. Yeah. Why? There's no micals. There's covers. The pigs in blankets are kind of getting churned out of the threat of the meat factory. Constant fucking pork. And by the way, the glutton. 90% of our pork is gas, apparently. I only found out, yes, gas. There's some really terrorist attack. What? The pig is killed by a gas. And I've seen some videos of them dying and it's really not good. I don't want to, I don't, Matt, I think it's, it's, firstly, it's diversion and secondly, it's horrible, but just so you know. Basically, I think, I don't like the sound of the Ashley's. I don't like the sound of the Murray's and the fact that they're combining in a kind of football club that I'm playing. Why don't you like the sound of the Murray's? Because they mean one fact about the Murray family. Other than, other than that guy is son-in-law to Mike Ashley. It means that he's going out with Mike's daughter. I said one of the facts about the Murray family. It means that... What do you mean it means? What's this it means? It's the start of the story. If they're together.

If he's Mike Ashley's son-in-law, if he's Mike Ashley's son-in-law, then I think that he's probably a nightmare. Right. That's my professional opinion as fashion boy. And going around to there's Christmas sound shit. Anyway, I don't know if he's worked hard for it. Fuck it. Like, fruit of the loom is where you want to be working if you're in fashion. You do not want to be embroiled with the Hugo Boss Empire. There you go. That's some business news I suppose for you there. A concerning takeover that we need to keep our eyes and ears on to make sure we preserve the sanctity of Hugo Boss. I mean, you know, they were... Well, they're the Nazi one. Yeah. In that case... They were the Nazi one. In that case, don't ever do that again. Oh, you've attracted everything you serve. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying don't ever do that again, Hugo. That is completely unnot good. We've seen like a wonderful time to jump as a thinker's corner when we're going to hear from the best and brightest minds that have ever lived. They never will live. I mean, this week is no different as we tackle the topic of fashion. First up, we're going to start with some quotes as ever

and we're going to start with Oscar Wilde, who's probably now fucking five time amazing. Okay, what could I do to it? I put his whole head in my mouth. Hellhead in my mouth. One kit both. That is your wine cofaction. That is horrible. Take it away, Oscar. Fashion is a form of ugliness, so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months. Interesting. Very interesting. Trends, you know, the insufferable trends of fashion. This hats in and all of a sudden it's not fucking in. Boring. Yawning, too. In reality, it's getting faster. The internet, everything, everything up, isn't it? Because it's like you just see so much that fucking changes. I feel like it used to be, you could have like 10 years. You remember there's like 80s style. Now it's like, it's one year and then the next year is different and the next year is different. But that's why you got to buy something that was made yonks ago because then that's protected by it. You know, if you get anything from like, say the likes of... Hase-os. Or boo-hoo. Then you will inevitably look like a numpti in 2028, okay?

Yeah. If you go retro, you're kind of... Yeah. And to be honest, better tailoring. Back of the day. Immortality. Yeah. Hey. Where are the tailors now? They're in... What's that street? There are all the good tailors. There's a big street in London where they all are. And are they just chilling there? Are they making... Well, they're working there being tailors. I have never thought of myself as a tailor. Why would you? You're fucking smacked. Me, no, no. But the quote, yeah, the trends of fashion is, you know, as always, Oscar brings some lovely words to it and we do appreciate that. But fashion's a form of ugly. It's so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months. Yeah. I mean, also, who can like... Who can afford to keep up with all of this shit? Not me. Just the amount of fucking effort to just re-turf everything. It's many times as well. It's actually the time it takes to know anything about clothes from where I'm sitting. Well, you're... What is the point in any of this? And what was I saying? No idea.

Basically, what I'm saying is, it's a fucking fact to know what's good. You should go and look in a shop. Don't go online and buy a load of bollocks. You will forget about it. Get something special, or get given a hand me down. Yeah. Thank you. Let's talk about some historical clothing because clothing has been around for a while. Probably since literally we were fish. You know why that's wrong. No, but I'm fish. Do you fish? Where? No, no, no. That's what I'm saying. As soon as we stop to being fish, you know what? I'm sorry, very quickly. I've been on the holiday and I've been looking at some animals. And it is including fish. And it is amazing the fact that, although we are completely not like them, or lions, or kind of elephants, or cats, or any other sort of two-eyed... You're getting lost to the list. Including ants, I think. We all... Pretty much all animals have two eyes in the mouth. And it does really show that we do all come out of the same little lake.

I genuinely think that is amazing. Yeah, yeah. We've all... There's very clear... I mean, I love you, you need to talk about fish. I love you. Because since you've got back and even during it, you haven't genuinely shot up about fish. I just think it's amazing that they will... Sharks have two eyes in the mouth, and they're nose. We have the same. We are actually from the same place. Yeah. So we should probably all just kind of get along. So... There's lots of different historical clothing and some of them are rather bloody silly. And I think we're going to cover some of them if I can say anything. They better not be too silly though. Because we're not going to go over the line. We know exactly where the line is, the silliness. And we didn't tread over it. No. This is the 18th century giant puff. I've always noticed Charlie. It ain't seen century sprouts. This episode is brought to you by Nordstrom. For 125 years, Nordstrom has been part of your story. The stylist who found the perfect outfit

for your big interview. The first pair of walking shoes for your one-year-old. The tomato soup you shared with your sister at the cafe. These are the moments that make Nordstrom. Nordstrom. Bigger a small. We're here for all of it. Celebrating 125 years with new moments still add. Discover it all in Nordstrom stores and at Nordstrom.com. Hi there. I am fully charged. And here to tell you, Toy Story 5 is now on Disney Flash. What do you mean? It's been too long, cowboy. Woody Buzz and Jesse are back for a brand new adventure with some seriously cool new tech. What? Holy butter scotch! You said it, Jesse. So save your batteries and watch the global phenomenon at home. And the best part, it's perfect for the whole family. Power up your movie night and watch Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 now streaming on Disney plus rated PG. What? In 18th century, France, women wore enormous poof hairstyles that could rise dramatically above the head

and took hours to create using hair padding, wire, and powder. These elaborate structures were often decorated with feathers, ribbons, flowers, fruits, and even miniature ships or gardens. With increasingly extravagant designs becoming a way to display well status and fashion. So just big poofy hair. I quite like the idea of having a garden in a hair. Do you know what I mean? In many ways, your hair is a garden if you have lice or ants. If you put some ants or, yeah, you've had ants in your hair, haven't you? I've had a small colony of ants in me. Which is hairdresser had to tell him. It was embarrassing. Did they continue to cut your hair? Yes. Which got rid of ants. That's very good of them. I was 40. It's completely fair for a hairdresser to turn your way saying, I'm sorry, I'm not going to cut your hair today, it's covered in ants. No, it is. I was very grateful that they had to do it. But look at that. To be honest, I'd back women's hair to come back into this kind of fashion. I'd be attracted to a lady who had a ship in her hair. I quite like people when they put things in their hair. I like flowers in hair. I like churpers and fruit in there. Flowers.

Whatever you want. I said, player. I think. Please. I think. Oh my god. Fuck. Well, I had something. What do you think? I got distracted by the word player. So, my opinion is that the world is moving in the right direction, Andrew. Interesting. That's quite hot take, actually. Because the fact that we're not doing this anymore. Why? Because it's like nowadays, it's a very kind of peacocky animalistic dumb dumb. Give me a b***. I'm going to hide in the tree way. You think having a... They're listening. Yeah, okay. So, if you're trying to attract attention or kind of show status, putting a ship in your hair, is a stupid way of doing that. Now, you've got something about you. Now, it's more of a level play field. If I'm just like a boring wanker with a boat in my hair, it's like, well, what about me? I'm bald, but I've got something to say. Is it like... Yeah. You shouldn't win because you've got a boat in your hair. No one's saying you've won. I know. You shouldn't be able to get all the nice food and nice people.

You already annoyed at these boat hair people because they're already winning against you who's bald. It's clearly... What the fuck? There's been security's coming out here. What am I doing? Is it... Yeah, they can put boats in their hair. With my bald head, I guess I can make it look like a planet, I suppose. Yeah, you can... Yeah, that's great. You can make it like the world. You can dye it in a way. You're blue and green for, as you guessed it, land and sea. Fine, okay. Are you in now? Now that you can pass away, it's an amazing idea. Just because when you grow your hair out of this, like a microphone. Which, I guess I can put boats in. Put yourself into a microphone. Or make a little crowd. Crowd of what? Man. Why are you saying that? That's an amazing idea. Because I can just have a whole colony of guys in my head. Well, you've got a ship. I've got a town in my head. Yeah, you're very threatened by the idea of just mostly women going around with big hair. I just think it should be... Nowadays, you can't just have loads of ships and like... Sabutio in your hair. You've got to have something about you. Yeah, I think so. I think maybe you're suggesting that the idea of it being a status symbol is not quite bang on.

We may be out of order. It's right. But maybe we can bring it back without it connoting a certain position in society. You do not. It's just like... I like... No, connoting, makes sense. Really? Yeah. Okay, sorry. With that connoting. A specific position in society. It shouldn't be that people with ships in their hair are allowed into nightclubs or get to use different, nicer toilets. No. That would be crazy. That is... We shouldn't have a two-tier hair society between bald people and boat heads. That would be the stupidest way of length. It would be a bad way to do it. But I don't mind a bit of like... ...juzging up. Think a bit of big hair, bit of fun. Bottom. What would you do if you lived in a society and had to blow someone away? With my hair. Yeah, like if you had to put like a ship or something, what would you... Got on it. Well, I've got very, very straight hair. So if I... If left unkempt, it would just flop down. Like in kind of... I think it would go either side. Like middle parting. Either side. So it's like a curtain situation.

That's nice and behind it is... Me. Hello. Right. So you're drawing your hair. Yeah, and there's a little rope kind of that connects it, which is also my hair. And then whenever I meet people, you have to open the curtain. Show time. Hello. Yeah, it's brilliant. I've got a bulky, herbal poltices and gruesome physical symptoms caused by raging syphilis outbreaks of the era. The perfect man. Big knob. No syphilis. That's what it fucking shows, doesn't it? I've got a large penis and you can't see my boils from my syphilis. Come and get me.

Come and get me. I have a question about that. Does that imply that the guys without syphilis are just walking around with their knobs out? Or can you... Why are they needing to conceal it with the code piece? So I believe it came. To fruition because their trousers didn't join up. They didn't have like a middle bit of their trousers that they had to put a code piece in. So that you can't see the weiner. The thing. But yeah, I mean, to be honest, I kind of, again, I wouldn't mind this coming back. We don't really get a chance to accentuate our penises in the modern world. I would love to decorate mine. Why can't we as men go? Yeah. I've got a hog. Sticks and fairy lights on it. Sticks and fairy lights on it. Croc gems. We can combine it with a hairstyle thing and just have fairy-lighted cod pieces where we go around with giant inflated knobs. What's fuck off the... The cod piece and just literally just a wrap-aloud of fairy lights around your knob and take to Covent Garden. Right. But I think, you know, it's... As male, should we be allowed to accentuate our penises?

Now everything's changing. You know, we're having different ideas on sex and gender. Should we be allowed to accentuate our penises? It's probably going the other way, isn't it, where we should try and hide our penises and pretend they don't exist? I think maybe that's better. Do you think? There's a lot of... You can't have it erect. I'm not liking these cod pieces that are erect, which I say. Yeah, I don't think we need that. There are some really, really odd men out there. They will love this. There's a guy who caught... There's a rapist who was caught at, like, King's Cross, like two days ago. He's going to be all over it with this shit. We can't embolden... The more you accessorize and decorate and glorify the knob, the more embolden the rate. I do actually agree with that. I think if we brought cod pieces back, sexual assault will increase. For sure. It's like, oh, knobs are back. Noms are back. Noms are back on the menu, boys. Not like that. Jeff. No. Not like that. No, in a kind of classy, old way. Yeah. You free. Let's not draw too much attention to the knobs. We've had our time. Cod piece out. It's the era of the...

What? What if the knob era is over? Then the... Well, it's definitely the year... I think it's the year of the bum, really, isn't it? It's bum... I thought that was over, though. That means I'm out. The big one is. But I mean, in the vast historical epoch change, I think it's still... We're still in the bum era. Because boobs have always, you know, corsets and everything. It wasn't so much about the bum. No. Whereas now, even men's bums are coming kind of into the conversation. It is. So I think we're still in the epoch of the bum. The reason we like boobs... Sorry. The reason we like bum is it cots. It reminds us of boobs. Did I talk about this with you? Yeah. We have. We have to scout this. Is it the other way around? No, because the boot is first. No, it is... No, it is the other way around. No, the boot. The bum reminds us of a sub-boob. The boot reminds me to be my boobs. No, it's not the boot. Yeah, boob reminds us of bum. I've got nothing for a bum. No, but you've got... You don't like bums. Not when I'm a baby. So you told me about half an hour ago. Not when I... I'm when you ignore that. Not when I am a baby.

I want boob. Why bring it babies to this, man? Because this is what I'm talking about. You bring fucking babies to this. No, no, the reason we like bums is because when we're babies, we associate the breast with milk. And therefore the bum kind of looks like that. And then we're like, we're home again. That's not why. It's not... I thought it was like... It reminds us of bums. You said f- You used to f- We used to f- from behind. Every animal f-s from behind. That's not it. It's about milk. What do you mean they f- from behind? All animals, f- We're one of the only animals to f- face to face. So doggie style is in many ways. Catty style. And are... Any other animals? Hippo. Hippo style. Who are a big, big problem in the Konga base in a minute? I'm not going to let you talk about hippos again. I'm going to refuse it. Okay? I'm not going back into hippos. Because I'm fed up of cutting out hippo content for this podcast. Okay. And then finally we've got the bathtub hat. In the early 20th century, it's a realist fashion transformed ordinary objects into one usual accessories, including hats designed to resemble bath tubs.

Well just baths as well. You know, I feel like that's an Americanism, a bath tub. What's wrong with calling it a bath? Seats taken. Seats taken. Seats taken. Again. That's what I'm saying when I went on to get in the bath with me. Seats fucking taken. Yeah. It's not a bad thing to say if someone's trying to get in the bath with you. Is it a good thing to say now in this most in this room? I'm just going to move on. These imaginative designs blur the light between clothing and art. Turning everyday objects into a elaborate and unconventional fashion statement. Now we have got a bath correspondent with us, not the place obviously. Have you ever been to bath? Yes. Lovely. But he does know a lot about the tubs of bath tub. So we're going to hand this one over to Charlie. Well, I love this, Andrew. What the fuck is this? Wait, what we look at? I'm going to get distracted. I love this, Andrew, because it's combining two things. Two is bigger than one, Andrew. Yes. So if I can make it work, I'd love to have a bath hat because I like hats.

I like baths. Let's fucking mash them up together. So your logic is the more stuff you can buy in onto a hat, the better it is. Successfully, crucially. Okay. I don't want to have like a potato hat. Well, that's just one thing, isn't it? It's not adding more things. No, no, no, no. Potato hat wouldn't work because it will melt or I'll eat it. Melt? Do you think potato melts? Or it'll... In a normal day, a potato will melt. I don't know. It'll sit Charlie. It'll sit Charlie. It'll sit Charlie. Charlie, sincerely. What the fuck are you talking about? I'm saying I would be up for exploring all hybrids as long as they actually work, because it's two things combined is better. So then I said, so your logic is the more things you can combine and you said, well, no, because I wouldn't want a potato hat because it would melt. Sorry, I think I slightly misanswered your question. What I meant by that is if it's... If it's the right combination, yes, if it's the wrong one, definitely let those two things be alone. OK. Baths and potatoes. Hats and potatoes probably don't work. But baths and hats do work. Well, they might. Definitely. Because that will let rain water.

I think maybe. And then it's a little bath for their bugs. A bath bug hat. Their plots, thickens. Well, enough about baths and more about fighting. Enough about baths. Enough about bathtubs. They said about blooming, washing yourself. It's about clothes. Enough about baths. Because we'll save that for when Andrew and Charlie investigate our bath tub. But this time, we're doing fashion. Let's rock it. Well, bathtubs hats are all well and good, aren't they? Well, sometimes they're bad, aren't you? Sometimes they're unwell and bad. But like my father. And they might be, you know, they can be a controversial piece of clothing to add into your own wardrobe. But fashion isn't without its share of controversy, Charlie. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. In fact, in fact, many ways they welcome controversy. Bring it on. But it's difficult out there to be a sustainable and or ethical fashionista, isn't it? Completely agree. But often that controversy then can tip into a protest.

And we're actually going to accidentally cover some recent news again. Nothing is by accident on this part. This tastes like veg, this coffee. Why does it taste like rotting? It tastes like rotting that you have vegetable coffee and tea. I don't know. I don't hate it, though. It tastes like broccoli. It tastes like identical to broccoli. Broccoli. So let's cover some news, some fashion news. During New York Fashion Week on the 13th of September, 2026, several Peter activists disrupted a cause runway show in Manhattan to protest the use of wool, carrying signs and shouting that sheep were being beaten and bloodied for fashion. The protest quickly became more dramatic when Stephen Colbe, the CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, physically intervened, grabbing two protesters and restraining one on the floor while the show continued around them. Colbe was a repologist saying he had reacted inappropriately and should have left the situation to security. And the CFDA placed him on a leave pending review. Peter was protesting cause his parent company H&M Group over his use of wool and allegations of animal abuse in a South African wool operation.

So let's watch this video. It's just a runway show. Runway show seems to happen like in flats nowadays. You know what I mean? Oh my god. I suppose you don't. He doesn't look very strong. No, I'm describing you saying, Charlie. There is a very angry man in glasses. He looks a bit like. There's a runway show going on. We've got several protestors who have gone on to the runway. And this CEO has taken matters into his own hands. Definitely. He's grabbing them. He's shoving his hand over their mouth on his face and here. Oh, that's crazy. He's literally restrained her by her chin and then wraps his leg around her and is like pushing his hand on the mouth. Yeah, that is kind of crazy. Hearing about it, I was actually kind of on his side. Why? Because at least, well, in the sense that at least he's sort of doing something. A lot of fashion is kind of cut off. I'm not going to feel or see or say anything. At least Stephen Colby, obviously he's a complete freak.

But at least he's showing that he's a real person. If I'm the CEO of the... What? Who sees a violent act? And goes, well, at least he's showing he's a real person. There's a bit of humanity there. The murderers. Well, at least they show that a real person. Stephen Colby's showing humanity in this one because it's like... What? He's showing frustration. I'm the CEO of the Council Fashion Kings of America, whatever it's called. That's correct. I'm going to be absolutely fuming if you come and chat about the fucking wall. It's the most bizarre thing I've ever heard. At least he's displaying the fact that he's a real person with clear issues. And, you know, it's like... Otherwise, everyone's there like ice queen, it's just like... Pretending isn't happening. You just like that he's addressing this. Yeah, it's like there's something alien. Pretty violent intent. Like putting a woman on the floor, wrapping his legs around her, cupping her by the chin and shoving his hand on her. Yeah, that's obviously fucked. I'm not condoning that. It sounds like you are because it's showing he's a real person. I'm just condoning the fact that at least he's showing who he really is. Okay, you like that he's taken matters into his arms. He's obviously a nutter. Yeah, I think he's... I think he's...

I personally think he's absolutely fucked it. I think he's not... Clearly he's fucked it. Well, that's not what you're saying, is it? But he's at least... He's going out in some style. I guess he's going out in style by grappling a woman to the floor. That is stylish. I mean, you know, I would... I would... I can empathise with the frustration of protesters. If we have protesters in here right now, how would you... If you're him, how are you going to talk down a protester? Wool's bad. Everyone hates Wool. It's done. You are. You are not bringing that on air. Ever since Charlie's comes... Has come back from Sicily. All he's done is speak about fish and just grab me and go, it's done. I don't know what it's about either. He keeps saying it. But what's wrong with Wool now? I mean, like, you know, what about a black sheep? Have you got any new clobber? You know, Wool's fine, isn't it? Now there's a problem with Wool. There's a problem with everything. You can't. There's no such thing as sustainable consumption in capitalism. Very confused by who side you're on in this one. Do you like the Wool or do you hate it? What are you...

Are you being... It's not a chill to see. There's not one... I don't have to be on one. I'm now moving the conversation, not about a conversation of Wool. I'm not condoning, like, you've been the violent attack of a woman. Stop saying, you know what, you're condoning a violent attack of a lady. No, I'm condoning the fact that he's showing that he's not a complete alien. Absolutely. I hate nonsense. You know, I love all women, including my mother. But you appreciate when a man grapples one onto the floor because he's showing that he's a person. But why... Do you know what I mean? Every... Well, there's... Materials are a nightmare. You can't buy anything that's not a bit fat. I mean, because the clothing industry is obviously... It's just a nightmare because you can't... There's sweatshops. There's the environmental damage. There's just... And there's inequality between countries. It's... You can't do anything right. But I thought we were pretty safe with Wool. 90% of pigs in this country are gassed. The animal situation is absolutely awful. I agree about Wool Andrew. I agree about Wool. It's obviously a bad situation. I don't know why they're dying on that hill specifically.

There's bigger problems in the world. But they're Peter. Yeah, well, Peter needs to get a bit less blue. We can get a bit more of the old. We can get out of the head in the sunshine. Now, this is... I think you've actually said the most nonsense per word. Is any progress we've ever done? That is saying something. Peter. You couldn't be calling it Peter. If you only wanted to intimidate me as a chatty, call yourself Bruce. Bruce or even Kiran, if he really was a nasty one. Peter is... I'm what's Kiran's down for. Like Peter is an acronym or a... There's always wrong with whatever you say. It's not an abbreviation. It's an acronym or what's the other one? Anyway, it's boring. When people correct you on that. I've had people correct me. It's not actually an acronym. Yeah. Well, I'm fucking cool. Excuse me. That came from somewhere. Quite sure. You were saying what's Kiran's down for? King is... Make it relevant to animal protection. Eating rare animal knows. Could it be no? What? No, he's eating too much rare animal knows.

He's eating rare animals. No. King is eating rare animals. No. Yeah, okay. It's good. But yeah, it's just impossible, isn't it? I used to back in my, you know, uni days. There was a kind of idealism to me, which is just slowly. I guess this is just the process of getting older. But, you know, oh, there's the idea of maybe being attempting to be ethical and do some sort of ethical consumption. But then everything just turns out to be bad. Everything's being processed. What's the fucking point? Yeah, it is hard to not do bad. I do believe there's no such thing as a... Free lunch. There's a free lunch. It's quite a cynical view on the world. I know, but it's getting more and more. What's the fucking point? I can't have a world anymore. You're looking very excused as to do playstation and gear for four days. No. Which we will, we'll say another word about. Right. No, I don't think this, I just think it's impossible to be an ethical consumer in this system. This does look pretty bad though, what they're doing to the sheep. I agree, but then like, I stopped, but then what's my other option?

Hemp or something? They'll not just be nice to the sheep. They should bloody be nice to the sheep. Do you know what I mean? But it's not at the same time. It shouldn't be my responsibility to check the label to check whether they're abusing sheep when I'm buying some pants. Just don't do it. It's all a nightmare. Speaking of fast fashion, Yeah. Kev Mudd, weekly friend of the pod. He took down a boohoo sweatshop in Leicester with the Guardian. He was an undercover reporter and he took down boohoo in Leicester. What a point in Kev Mudd's kind of transition from homeless man to stand up comedian. Did he become a private investigator? What was he doing? He was a undercover reporter. Yeah, he was an undercover reporter and he... Oh my God. Additional reporting, Kev Mudd. Kev Mudd was an undercover reporter. Who took down boohoo in Leicester? Because they were doing sweatshops with them. I think South Asian women and we're just having them insane times at their sweatshops. Getting COVID.

It was around COVID. A lot of their workforce were just being made to throw it into the fucking pit. Well, good work from Kev Mudd. I know. The astonishing work from Kev Mudd. I'm bleeped. He's on the right side. He's on the right side. I think I think... He also earned a part. Every week. I think I know who Kev Mudd is. And each week after that, it's completely destroyed. I haven't got a clue with the guys. The more I know, the less I know about Kev Mudd. Good. But yeah. And also, you know, fashion runways. You know, there meant to be the upper echelons of what it is to be tasteful and cool in our culture society. I don't think there's anything more embarrassing than celebrities going around like Paris or London or New York fashion week wearing like a really big hat. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. And they're like, oh, you... And like, is that to... And then you see them like on the front row of a Milan fashion week and they're just wearing like a poofy vest. You know, like, fucking hell, mate. It's the most... I think it's the most embarrassing thing to be seen at any fashion week trying. Well, wearing like a really impractical gun. Yeah.

And so they never usually wear that, but they're dressing up for... They're dressing up for fashion week. It's like why we didn't dress up for this. It's too much. It's on the nose. Yeah. Dress like shit if you're at a fashion show. Just... Just dress kind of normally. I just think it's always... It's always embarrassing. I think like even just going on a red carpet and wearing something really nice. You're not wearing that to the shop. You're not wearing that to this nice at local. I don't think you should have to wear it to a niece at local. But it shouldn't like... It's just the... The aggressive pomp. You're like, ah. I'd be awful. Awful on a red carpet. Awful on a red carpet. Me too, I think. Right. But... Ah! Clothes aren't just clothes. Why would they be? There's a lot of psychology behind clothes, isn't there? Didn't know I did. Is there? Yeah. Okay. Tell me everything. So there's a thing called enclosed cognition. No. I'm not meant to do that. I guess. I don't know with them. Anyway. In 2012, psychologist Hageo Adam, an Adam Galinsky. Well, that must have been bloody confusing on the research papers.

Why say that, Andrew? Proposed the idea of enclosed cognition, suggesting that the clothes we wear can influence the way we think and behave. In their experiments, participants who wore lab coats associated with the doctor performed better on a task, requiring sustained attention. The nose who wore the same coat, but were told it belonged to a painter. The researchers argue that... I do get it. ...pudierly not like Vincent Van. Go. Go. Go. Go. Go. The researchers argue that clothing can affect behaviour through both its physical appearance and its symbolic meaning we associate with it. However, later research has produced mixed results, including a large pre-registered replication that did not reproduce the original attention effect. So the strength of the phenomenon remains debated a bit more nuanced for you now as well. What? No more way, no way. Is that the peer-review system? No more way, no more way. In what? In what? In what way. In what way? In what way?

In what way? What are you talking about? The clothes affected how people performed in different ways. They were told a coat belonged to one person or another and based on the roles that were associated with that individual, they inhabited some of those roles as well. I see. So the clothes we wear in our backs change us and affect us. Do you feel that in your day to day? You are what you wear, Andrew. Yes. Method dressing. If I'm trying to look... To be honest, I do feel that. If you're kind of... Hmm. You know, what you wear and how you present yourself isn't just important for those around you. Hmm. Important for you indeed. You know, if you're sat at your laptop covered in sludge, you're going to feel like a piece of sludge. Okay, but if you're wearing a three piece suit, if I'm trying to work, I don't think we can suggest that... I don't think we can suggest that... A bit of sludge on me constitutes clothing. No, I'm saying, if I'm literally head to toeing in moss, I'm not sure out for the day. I'm like, try to email. I don't think I'm going to be able to ignore the fact that I'm covered in moss, but if I'm in a three piece tug seeder, where the glass of milk... Then I am.

I'm working that day. But I always have to go and sit in the park if I'm covered in moss because that's... You might as well be on a tree. But yeah, I think there's definitely... There's definitely truth behind it in many ways when I'm in a stupid outfit. You end up in stupid outfits a lot. Of course. It's harder to focus. Yeah, you're just... But there's also a freedom to it I've found. If you're wearing a stupid outfit, you're like, oh, it's fucked anyway. Who cares? It's often when I end up going to the shop when you just put on whatever's literally right in front of you and you just look stupid. Walk it around test. I'm like, who cares? That's fine. There is a freedom to it. There is, but I mean, you're doing a very specific nothing thing there. I'm saying like, if you go into work arguably, this is quite unhelpful at close for working. Maybe. But I think, like, equally, if I came in an overly dressed, maybe I'd go a bit serious. Yeah, maybe. So, I think, you know, it's very hard to get the balance out. It's very hard to get the balance right. You want some freedom and you want to be, you know, able to... You don't want to be constrained by your clothes.

Not in sliders. You need to take yourself seriously because if you don't then, Charlie, who the hell will? If not now. When. And why? Who? And if not then. But yeah, I mean, I particularly relate to this in the context of wearing my dad's pants. That is true. What? Who? Come on. I mean, when I wear my dad's pants, there are two competing wolves. Child-like. There's like... Well, there's like, I'm the fucking dad now. I'm daddy. I'm going to fucking go... I'm about to get... I don't really... A lot of people associate becoming like the man of the house and the carving, the turkey at Christmas, not wearing their dad's pants. Is the final form of carving the turkey at Christmas? Yeah, I guess you're literally... It's one step above... Short of flaying here. Filling his shoes. Yeah. Filling his knob pouch. No. Never. They're so big those pants. What? Easy-hung. I'm not saying that. I mean, to ask it, just let it out. I think he is, though. Do you think? Yeah. I'm 30.

I am trying... What I'm trying to say to you, Andrew, is that that's brilliant. But then there's also another part of my voice, another part of me even that says... To the other... To the other part of your voice. To the other part of your voice. This is... We shouldn't be doing this. Okay, sorry. What does that actually say? Forget that. Forget that, because we're going to get lost in a hole. What was the... The other part of your brain is saying... It's saying, what are you doing? Go get your own pants on. 100%. I think pants, there's no need to do hand me down pants. There's none. Surely there's loads of holes in them. Not one. Sturdy pants, then. That's Mr. Melna for you. Big cock. Sturdy pants. It's not great going like there's so much room in these pants, because then if you can't feel your dad's pants, that's a different level of shit. I'm really not talking about the penis. I never. You said there's so much room in these pants. Yeah, for body. Body. For my body. Yeah, I wouldn't wear it. I think wearing your dad's pants, I think that's going to have a psychological effects on you. I think... That's a bit worse. Okay. Yeah.

I think I have some of my dad's socks accidentally. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing about that. There's socks versus pants. Needs to be. Chalk and cheese. Feet and bum. Very different. God. Yeah, but I think it naturally does affect us, doesn't it? Doesn't that make sense? Yeah. I was quite a slightly quite weird about seeing your dad's pants. Yeah. Well, and especially if you see his actual knob. Go to about saying. You ever seen that? Uh, at once actually, yeah. And that stayed with me. Yeah, I've seen that. Yeah. It's a right passage. Yeah. You're a start. You're a man now, son. Here's my knob. I guess. But maybe it's most exaggerated. It's back-skying. What's skying? Oh my god, he's back every day. You're not always skying it. No. You don't let it. I was talking about. I was talking about. I was talking about. I was talking about. Yeah. Yeah. Well, let him cough that out over there. And maybe the most heightened sense of what we were discussing is uniforms and how they can affect and change us. No, uniform.

No, uniform. No, uniform. No, uniform. I don't even. I don't want to hear a paper at you. The mic. Fuck me. Lead us. In. Nice. God. In. In 1974, psychologist Leonard Pikman. I had to stab my own ship with my dad's big. This episode is brought to you by Nordstrom. For 125 years, Nordstrom has been part of your story. I'm not a lonely person. I don't care. You can't say that, I don't want to discuss it. I'm not explaining it. I had to do that one time. No, you did it enough to do that one time. Dude, I did. You have not stabbed your dad's ship with a big. No, my dad's ship with my dad's big. What? Your dad's pen. Your dad's pen. You stabbed your own ship with your dad's pen. Why? No, my dad's razor. I did it with my dad's razor. OK, big razor. Why? Because I just had to do something about it. What? Do something about what? To break it up. To break it up. Don't have a toilet. How hard was it? It could have been stuck to lovely little pond. But then as usual, he's revealed something truly dark about himself. Truly dark. How old? 19. Yeah, I knew it was always dark.

I'm not really proud of it. I'm not really upset. That's fine. Abset. Devastate. There's not a better way to do it than with your dad's razor. Did you throw away that was panicking? Yeah, throw away. Yeah. Because I'll I. No. Because anyone would have had to tell your dad why you threw his razor away. And he'd have pooled all his mouth. But did you tell your dad to throw his razor away? Did you tell your dad to throw his razor away? No, I was forced not. I just let it go. And you got to let things go sometimes. You don't do not try and give anyone a life lesson after what you have just said. You've done. There is no lesson to be learned other than don't do that. So then you got let it go. You got a degree to disagree. In 1974, psychologists Leonard Bickman invested. Oh, I can't look at that name now without seeing that image of you. What the hell is that? Shuffling your own shit down with your dad's razor. What is the significance of Bickman in terms of pun? What? Just you just make a pun out of it like we do every episode. Well, try it again. All right. Leonard Bickman. Oh my god. Fucking hell. In 1974. So I can't just learn a Bickman. Investigative whether a uniform can make an ordinary person appear more powerful and increase

obedience in a field experiment on the streets of New York. The same male experiment is approached members of the public while dressed either as ordinary citizens, milkman or security guards. And they gave them simple instructions such as picking up a paper bag, giving a stranger a coin, or moving away from a bus stop. They found that the people they were talking to were much more likely to obey the man wearing the guard's uniform than the man dressed as the civilian or the milkman. Which is probably unfair to the milkman, I'd say. I think if a local milkman came up to me and said, excuse me sir, can you move away from that ballard? I'd be like, of course, Mr. Milk. Here's a fucking kiss, I guess. Kiss on the head. Are you skimmed or semi? Or does it not work like that? And here you go. Well, that's nothing, that's just patting me on the head. There you go. Why is that something? What? Thank you. What's that about? What are you talking about? He's just a bachelor. He's a bachelor. He's sweet and odd and bashful. So you might say he's whole, some milk. Given a stranger caught, obey the man wearing a, it's annoying when you want to continue,

but you have no idea where you are. And that's a lesson for many of us in life. You might be a bit stuck, but you'll find your way out the forest eventually. Even if you're a man, you're not going to be a man. That's a lesson, you might be a bit stuck, but you'll find your way out the forest eventually. Even though the uniform man did not actually have authority over them. Bigman argued, there it is again, that the uniform gave the wear at legitimacy, meaning that people interpreted the clothing as a signal that the person had the right to give these instructions. Interestingly, when students were later asked about it, how people would behave, they didn't anticipate how strongly the response would be. So, you know, not too fucking revelatory information we've just provided there. People respond to uniforms. and people changing uniforms as well must I bring up the Nazis? Very true. And actually a very important point Andrew, the week that should be reminded of us. Or even we should be reminded about it. What? May we're off a cliff? Because fundamentally, I noticed that all the time. I've mentioned which I will... You mentioned where? I mentioned the guy in the sexual health clinic with the little clipboard.

Yes, because we should briefly mention that Charlie did have this exact experience when a man came up to him in a sexual health clinic with a clipboard. Because of the clipboard, Charlie gave away every piece of sexual information he's ever had. I think, to be honest, he took advantage. Yeah, but those clipboards shouldn't walk in to sexual health clinics. No, at all. I guess it's interesting that this doesn't apply in kind of dominatrix stuff. You know how like it would like... It's always very classic later. It's never like Bobby on the beat, Mama. It's always like... It says... It's a pop stuff. She's never like with a truncheon and then if I can clipboard, is she? There's... there's like... I guess Dominion is just obviously just the late sex thing. It's never like high-vehs dominatrix. Well, it is... I guess, is it? Because of institutionalized sexism. Or lack of imagination. Okay, yeah, all that. Yeah. Mostly whips. It is, isn't it? It's a bit like... It's latex because it's probably in a sense that, you know, because women don't hold or have them traditionally held positions of power like the police.

It doesn't go as much into a kink. And that is... And that is... And that is... And that is terrible. There's no kind of Bobby on the beat or like Sally on the street. Sally on the street, dominatrix. It's always like Trudy. It's a very just discovered porn style of sex. It is interesting. I think that's a good point that it's not as, you know, usually the female archetypes of, you know, cosplay, etc. It's on the submissive side of it, isn't it? I guess it's like... Is it that sexy if she comes over like a kind of Alan? And it's like you... Alan, who's me, sir? Well, no. She's gay, sure. But what do you mean comes over as Alan? If she comes over as a proper Bobby on the beat... If my girlfriend was like, I've got a surprise for you. We're going to do some role play later. And I get a bang of the door. I'm like, yeah. Ah, is Alan here? I'm going for that. Well, just not even that. She's just wearing like... She's just wearing like jeans at a t-shirt. Oh, is Alan here? She comes in like... I mean, it's a picture alone. She looks like Porca Rossa. And she's like... She's like... Just don't see the connection. What was this Alan fucking costume?

She's really shaved her head and she's got two little hairs. She's like boss babyed her hair. Boss baby! Excuse me, sir. We've had a bit of disturbance from your... Your name, sir. Yeah, appears that you're making quite a little racket in the evening with your hob. We appreciate if you keep it down now. She's my landlord. She... She's the policeman lady. Alan. You're Alan. I'm Alan. I'm Alan. I'm Alan. Where is she? No, no, no, no, no. She's Alan your Andrew. Okay. And then... I mean, then she wins around. As long as she doesn't come over as Alan. No, she does. If she's like a police officer... She looks like boss baby. She looks like boss baby. Okay, you keep trying to pinch and hold him boss fucking baby. And that's fine, okay? If she looks like boss baby and she's calling herself Alan, I'm not going to be into it. Got to. It's... But... The police officers are out of it. Yeah. I'm going to be like... What? Even if you loved her. If she really wanted to do it, I do it. You know what I'm saying? You'll be... You're going to be like... No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

If she said I want to look like boss baby, you'd still... You'd still copulate. I think the boss... The baby aspect is obviously difficult. But if she said I wanted to be... I want to be your landlord, Alan. I'd be like, okay. And what do you... Would you have to love her if she truly changed her voice to kind of like... You're right. And that was that. She talked like that. I... I don't know. I'd have to see. I love you, Andrew. I do. Wait, sorry. Is this out of set? No. This is just life. This is life. This is life. She's not trans. No. She talks like that. Why is she suddenly changed? No. She changes scene. She also feels that she's not taking seriously enough with her voice. So she wants to go something quite stereotypical. I mean, it would be a test. And I don't know. Hopefully you'll never have to. Hopefully you'll never have to. I'm not saying anything is a thing. Pardon. Pardon? Have your of him cared to do it in the pastast or the past few years? We got the most of them. Yeah, what? I mean, why? The baby thing? I know. That's porque.

The only about them being a baby what are they doing on the other hand. I mean, like to be honest there are two things that you... Too old mummies stuff, I think, but I think there's more traditionally guys who want to be in diaries. Yeah, rather than just a real Santa. Afimits. Grazie is guys that want to do off-limits. What are you talking about? Of limits, for who? Of limits. Of limit. Love! is what is when guys that want to do ethical what is it baby play ethical ENC ethical non consent. I think it's what it's called like basically guys want to do sort of rape kink yeah guys who push that yeah and guys that push you need to look like boss baby yeah yeah yeah you're saying rapists and pedos are bad yeah I agree no no guys that yeah play with the idea play with the idea when they're pushing airy and fucking have an apple yeah yeah I think this is p-dote gateway stuff yes it's a gateway well maybe not that way round but no I mean the baby it's like if she wants if you if the guy wants her to look like a baby if he wants to be a baby then whatever no it's not get stuck it's not ideal is it it's much better than if he wants her to be what absolutely that is a pedophile anyway anyway lots of other things have happened that was our coverage of the psychology of

fashion lots of things have as well lady gargour and meat dress pepper pig ongoing cheese bays my mate live with pepper pig I know we all know in 2010 lady gargour arrived at the MTV music video awards where we could dress made from raw beef designed by our guitar braw design of Frank Fernandez and styled by Nicola former Chetty former panchetti try again chip a lottery finally try again former chip chip a lottery okay yeah same thing but okay the dress was made from several pieces of meat and was completed with matching meat shoes a meat purse and a headpiece gargour said the outfit was intended as a statement about the discrimination and the idea that people should not be treated as pieces of meat particularly in relation to the LGBTQ plus rights and the US militaries don't ask don't tell policy which is still an effect at the time the dress calls immediate controversy some people

criticizing is wasteful or offensive whilst others saw it there's an extreme example of gargour using fashion as performance and political symbolism after the ceremony the meat was preserved and they to display the rock and roll hall of fame where it was treated and transformed into a more permanent more permanent jerky like material now I love jerky I don't know actually I don't want to be sucked into a conversation about jerky right now yeah how much of the political statements with outfits and fashion on the on the carpet also people that call it the carpet fuck off yeah this is a carpet yeah this is a carpet you're on a fucking rug runway but how much okay I get the piece of meat thing you shouldn't treat people as a piece of meat I'm on the kind of sexual content don't ask don't tell policy I'm not massively seeing the link between don't ask don't tell and the pieces of meat what where did that come from it's basically the the US apparently protesting that with the meat as well I don't

see yeah you know what don't ask don't tell us no we'll go to our political correspondent or army correspondent it was a homophobic policy in the army where you're not allowed to tell anyone if you like boys or girls if you are a boy or a girl don't know yeah they got rid of that they did I believe although I think Trump did something about it anyway so yeah I'm not entirely sure how the meat pieces of meat in that I guess it's like really fucking person I'm not a pepper army I like cock is fine with that but in the army you're just a piece of meat anyway really aren't you literally a piece of meat I'm a piece of meat if you're in the army you are a piece of meat yes you're can you go over there and maybe die for me please that's kind of man that's really me yeah is it just get people to look at her and then she can comment about it no because it was meant to be like pieces don't treat people like pieces of meat I kind of get it highlight how little rights as meat on their bones they didn't fight for the free there you go it's a

bit loose it's a bit I think it's a bit loose it could have been like the pieces of meat could have been more like a comment on the sexualization of women maybe I just think that's not the point making I know that's what we're commenting on but that's the don't ask just don't even look at it but the don't ask don't tell I think it is a bit loose but still do you think there is a do you think politics and fashion should combine on the runway for these award shows or do you think it should be a political should we keep politics out of the club yeah that's yes or no you can rephrase a question and ask yourself if you I don't think we should keep them out keeping separate as long as it's not a nonsense message you should be able to wear I think clothes maybe are if you it's quite hard to do it in a non cringe way now yeah I think it's very hard but if you nail it I think you can absolutely nail it what would you do if you wanted to give me a political message and then give me an outfit that's going to convey what you want to convey you're walking the Oscars red carpet I have with me seven dwarfs and okay fantastic start and it's they're all called thirsty okay and they got those circular fish balls on the

head yeah and the water he's running out and then they because it's the watch that's kind of implying that they're fish and they'll dry I'm protesting the water crisis they're all fucking so they're trying they're gasping to try and get this water and the last bit of the the reds and slowly inside there we are pumping out nitrous oxide so that they all pass out and it implies that they've died of thirst you can't tell the actors to pretend to pass out we're going to have to pump them with night yeah we are and they are blue yeah they're big balloons not at all because they're dwarfs exactly they're capacity is low even though that makes you some sort of pervert is snow white I imagine I guess so but the point is that making is that sorry snow black ice white ice black a snow nice dry ice wet white nice wet wet white wet white white wipes and that's another part of the water crisis to the water crisis the border look yeah yeah everyone's like fucking out look all listen okay both ideally fun there is a clear water issue here all these doors are passed in the

planet in the planet there's a problem with water the water dead and they're like water waste or is it people starving the water it's they are using too much water what is it it's the amount of drinking water is really diminishing quickly in terms of what's actually drinkable apparently water is big our leakage is like 40% leakage our water pipes leakage is something really something like craze at 40 I am going to have to throw that I think it might be 30% okay or it's 30% of our water leaks through the pipes Victorian pipes say yeah but it's also very hard to but 19 still still very high but that's a lot of water that is mad isn't it 90 20% of our water is lost to the pipes so that's the point that we're making is that all this water that's drinkable is about the water seepids it's 10 water okay I'm going to get this 10s water water seepids so yeah you got seven to all so they're all third called thirsty they're all dying of thirst you I am crying what are you wearing I'm wearing a massive tap and no I'm not how does

like yeah okay no it's not a bad idea just trying to think how it connects to the dwarfs you can be a pipe you you're a pipe I'm a pipe and you're a leaky pipe I'm a leaky pipe I'm like it pissing myself and you keep pissing yourself out the pipe and you don't oh no more spillage oh no I think it really matters people try and help me and I'm like don't help or you could be a Victorian pipe and you could be quite proper I don't oh I'm not spilling anything I don't need you know no no I'm fine but the dwarfs are dying oh no they're like they're like it don't look at me everything's fine you know while you're pissing yourself down the carpet there you go that's how we would politicize our rec carpet I do think that with the Lady Gaga case it's a bit on the nose to sort of the meat point should have been separate to the outfit I think it's too like I'm made of meat fucking whatever it's like it's too it's too how would you do it separately well what she could do is she tries to eat her meat dress she's still got meat on her yes listen I mean I'm evolving the piece she's covering me it's like cool well okay it does what it says on

the tin next oh my god Lady Gaga's eating the meat and then she actually chokes on it and dies and then she's Lady Gaga and she it's really a comment on the meat industry and how we all need to stop it so many fucking sausages so fashion is often about looking lovely but looking lovely is a relative concept and maybe even dirt can be fashionable this is fashionable dirt although it may sound counter-intuitive fashion consistently engages with dirt designers have created jeans trainers and other garments that are made to look muddy stained or heavily worn turning things that would normally make clothing seem damaged or undesirable into deliberate design features the idea is partly connected to the long history of distressed clothing where artificial rips fading and fraying make expensive new clothes look as though they had already been lived in in recent years luxury fashion has pushed this even further with garments deliberately made to look dirty unacgleted and sold for hundreds or even thousands of pounds but would normally be a sign that someone couldn't

afford new clothes as therefore been transformed into some things that can signal fashion irony and wealth anything else to say no thought there was more in the in the intro well you were flapping your hand at me for the entirety of that so I was expecting something no I wanted you to do an impression of some distressed clothing this episode is brought to you by Nordstrom for 125 years Nordstrom has been part of your story the stylists who found the perfect out but for your big interview the first pair of walking shoes for your one-year-old the tomato soup you shared with your sister at the cafe these are the moments that make Nordstrom Nordstrom bigger small we're here for all of it celebrating 125 years with new moments still add discover it all in Nordstrom stores and at Nordstrom.com hi there I am fully charged and here to tell you toy story five is now on dizzy flat what it's been too long cowboy what he buzzed and Jesse are back for a brand new adventure with

such seriously cool new tech what holy butter scotch you said it Jesse so save your batteries and watch the global phenomenon at home and the back part it's perfect for the whole family power up your movie night and watch dizzy and Pixar's toy story five now streaming on dizzy plus rated PG he should have been so that's not distressed it's not distressed should cannot sucks you can't afford to find be cool in the improv I should have been so there is a Scottish it's a repressed Scottish shoe that's not distressed I should have been so that's not distressed that's no he's very distressed he just expresses it in a slightly odd way oh right it's not in the traditional way of distress so you know everyone's different even our socks well I mean people expressed things a different way this is a part of the massive issue of actually understanding anyone in terms of this Andrew right so basically the point is dirty is cool yeah but it has to be the right kind of dirty it can't be like soupy and bread crummy no it's like very much like did you just try and cover up the the soup stage you have on your show it's not super your bread crummy

it has to be kind of I don't know it hasn't necessarily imply ruggedness rather than kind of this guy is and that's the interesting thing about it and just to combine two points if I might we're just very quickly touched on the fact that rich people pay quite a lot to look poor so there's a strange rear-coming phenomenon fashion where signs of poverty hard work on the glit become luxury signals once healthy people start wearing them Gucci's sold deliberately scuffed trainers golden goose made battered looking sneakers for hundreds of pounds and validity algorithms all choose designed to look stained crushed and practically destroyed more recently luxury brands have been delivered making clothes that look faded dirty or worn out and even in history Charlie we see this we see this bloody everywhere right you'd be surprised what do you do is it was a mystery all about you're like you're one of the proper ladies well no there's a few different caveats to that Marie Antoinette who is she who's Marie Antoinette is she who is she and Marie Antoinette I've never asked French Revolution figure great

Marie Antoinette was famously painted in 1783 wearing a deliberately simple white dress that looked almost peasant like compared with the elaborate clothing of a side but the fabric was expensive imported muslin and maintained that supposedly simple that required considerable resources and briefly sociologist Pierre Bordeaux helps explain the appeal his idea of distinction was that wealth isn't only about showing that you have money it's also about showing that you have the cultural knowledge to know what's fashionable eventually being able to make something look cheap can become more sophisticated and simply make it look expensive so is it just fetishization of the working class in some cases yeah I think in some cases yes I think Balenciaga are the worst fix they just literally make kind of I don't I can't even put it into words it's like a sort of black sponge with 10 holes in it that becomes a shoe is that very working class no but well yeah I guess it's just like really sideways looks at clobber that I don't I saw it just nonsense I saw you go to like a serious mo try to make this point and it's just

nonsense listen I'm sorry Lancey Arga actually do quite a sideways look at clobber my I say there Andrew yes your thoughts on that basically Lancey Arga are stealing a living by making the bar looks clothing right and selling it for what's that what's that we'll take it out for your balls now that now I mean I would be into that a little kind of pair but yeah about these to be you know that's fucking I don't really think I don't really think this is what we're talking about until no it's the last thing I think to be honest I think we're all guilty of it no okay yes yeah no please go on I like to know no Charlie will be on a what I'm saying is better be amazing the better be fucking good what I'm saying there is something too very fancy clothes that look very simple not cheap necessarily but just like a clean amazing clean long sleeve t-shirt but we'll sell for 400 it's not really long sleeve t-clean t-shirts a clean long sleeve t-shirt track my point yeah what are you really talking about I can't are you it's more I think it's

this yeah it's meant to look tattered and like you know it looks like a someone's person aware okay and there's a time being nasty but even now I've been asked to do the homeless but yeah but even stuff like you know I think we're all guilty of it to a certain extent stuff even like cargo trousers because it's like it's kind of oh you're like it's like a workman look work trousers a card yeah a big in and that is in a way because you know carpens is a fit they are women find car design three surgeon sexy mostly because they've got lots of pockets but they have pockets on their trousers because they need them for their tools where it's we have them on us but vapes and cake in agree so it is I think we all do it in some way our pocket is quite sad and horrible isn't it it's very but there's also people in fashion there's no good people in fashion he's spoken a lot about clothes what are the people who do it this is Elsa ship a rally um is that a ship that's a she hey that's a ship are really nice nice

looks like a lorry Elsa ship a rally was born into an aristocratic Italian family in 1890 but from the beginning she seemed determined to make her life difficult silly bitch no no as a young woman she secretly published a book of central poetry fey five phone call come put this deal though with my bum I don't mean to step on your toes no that's much better than why I now finish it off from there yes from covering come from back yeah why not wait why is that such a ridiculous no i'm not going again go ahead go now um you're my little thumb i'm your little ballina i stop saying i'm always gonna believe you're just a man from Oxford countryside it's not very sensual she responded by going on hunger strike until they agreed to let her leave she then fled to London where she met a charismatic man

who claimed to be account in a spiritual expert sorry i just i want to i want to i wish i'm not you reminded me of something that happened to me let her leave there was a guy at fest at festival in north hook it was Sunday everyone was feeling a bit piracy and there was a lit i was on the floor with my mate um we had to eat in some mushrooms and there was a little naked man that ran out of the bush and he was honestly like a kind of green bog man fully naked looking completely mad like crazed eyes and he just started we would like the first two people that saw him and he jumped out of the bush and decided to do this lap of the kind of central reservation of the festival near on the burger vans and the kind of chips and the bars and then everybody gradually clocked him and we all started running to the middle and this kind of the whole festival essentially paused around this man and it was kind of breathing around him this kind of crowd and we all started and then all the security were chasing him and it looked like they were kind of dogs it was like they'd released the hounds on this naked man and they all grabbed him in the middle

and then we all were shouting let him live let him live let him live and the security did let him live and then they all went yeah she eventually arrived in Paris with a young daughter and despite having no formal training in fashion somehow builds a major fashion business from scratch today to be gained friends with Salvador Dali and other surrealists collaborated with them on bizarre creations completed competing with Coco Chanel and became famous for treating fashion almost like performance art her was biography was eventually titled shocking life which is unusually accurate before she before she hung her stride before she became famous for surrealist fashion she had already been sent to a covent gone on hunger strike married a self-proclaimed spiritualist cross the Atlantic being abandoned with a child and rebuilt her life in Paris quite the life something I've discovered and reflected on is the fact that blind confidence can it is not entirely the key but often is basically the key beyond talent if you're

posh people with a lot of confidence can go really far it's true if you're confident enough and you're there sort of set up so you know a few people yeah you can just fucking there are a few there are a few that and she's one of them and many around today that are just they're not talented they're just confident as far yeah there's a real there's a public school confidence as well documented but you don't need to have any talent yeah this is overconfidence and then like you know gets you in the right rooms and then you just hold it out make it so you make it it's a big thing yeah it's a permanent figure to you make it yeah yeah yeah yeah and this lady also calling her book a troubled life what was it called shocking life shocking life is a bit like it is a bit but it was it was it was the 20% yeah there weren't you get quite an extraordinary life in many ways don't call it shocking there weren't there's no electric guitars you can't go it shocking is only is is anything only shocking if an electric guitars no what I'm saying is the tone of kind of it's sort of stop trying don't you're not zany fuck off I think she is quite zany for a time

she became famous for surrealist fashion she'd been sent to a covenant uh covenant am I saying the convent convent is what I'm trying to say convent she'd already be sent to a convent gone on hunger strike married herself claims spiritualist cross the Atlantic being abandoned with a child and rebuild her life in post that's that's quite shocking life fine fine well I just think that fundamentally don't call yourself shocking you lose it's like you lose yourself out you lose your powers you you you often struggle to like put your mind back into history and be like I may be the word shocking was different and it didn't have the same connotation but then I only suck it as I see it Andrew fine and what's what you see now I'm seeing a lot of stuff a lot of pain a lot of per per no I'm seeing I'm seeing a lady that was um trouble but she made her mark courage bravery that's why I see when I see Elsa ship a rally I see a woman to be emulated throughout the ages what would you say if she was here now hello thank you for coming welcome to this place and a used to be a pill factory did you speak for factory and

there used to be child pornography in here what oh you of course there was yeah there was but we aren't about that at all what I'm imagining she's here by the way we know you're the kid regardless we don't like that anyway what fuck what is fucked up a kid no it's fucking there was port like child porn there needs a kid that guy's gone that guy's well gone and we have got juice coffee and girlfriend um well seems like a wonderful time to jump into uh well to catwalk our way into patreon valley to a catwalk I always have to do the dark no get up and actually do it no I think I do much of grimace on yet to be kind of more serious yeah give that man a close and as ever we will be taking a that the valley is fashionable when everyone's looking wonderful everybody's looking at a hundred pounds and then uh hundred and as ever we're gonna take a question from a patreon valley member and you can also be a patreon valley member if you subscribe to it

you get an extra episode you can be part of this thread and much more you got to try it it's honestly once you pop you shall not be stopping unless you find it boring and annoying this question comes from tom foolery four to five who is Charlie's biggest fashion inspiration Nicholas Grimshaw radio to like big jumpers scarves yeah nice which I've never seen you wear big multi-colored jumpers lovely trench coat I have a trench coat I haven't got it in a while uh I just think he seems like a saparaphans there there a lot of people that will be cancelled and have been cancelled Nick Grimshaw will never be taken down so he's your fashion icon because he's uncancellable and he's a good guy okay and I like his clubber I am also probably more the clubber aspect there isn't it I'm also big into um Steve Baxchill in terms of he's okay there's the rugged there's something to his his because he's like he's not really dressing like a kind of chords he's dad he's kind of there's a bit more explore yeah he's a bit more unexplored he wears rash vest I love rash vest you do love rash vest I was the only person in the whole of outlet

festival with a brush vest that's unsurprising to me and it felt great two years of running rash vest it means I don't get burned I don't have to worry about my fucking back I could just float about look at the fish and what let them follow me hmm who would be your first or a rash vest to the gym don't you I do that that was a disaster from both of us which seems like a perfect time to sew our way into pieces pasture the flowers are wearing hats um and as ever we're going to finish with some pieces of frichali and I that's some of our topic of the week which is fashion and this week is no different as we do that and this is my piece it's called fashion and this by me why the pirate stuff all the time I just like them yeah he look great it works it really does work I think this might be it I think this is me come on back yourself Charlie come on you got this they might react with some jokes at first but then you can be jealous they didn't find this themselves I've got to remember whatever happens and whatever they say I'm expressing myself and

and it's beautiful it might be a bit of a risk sure but but what great fashion hasn't happened with that a bit of risk okay be brave Charlie but who needs brave real yeah look like this what's up guys you uh you ready to bust down the ceilings tonight let's hit the town up and make it all red what have you got on your head mate you look no no no you're you're meant to be my friends you meant to support me what kind of friendship is this if we can't express ourselves freely without being attacked you should be there for each other back each other no matter what I'm always never want ever you guys need oh I ask if you do accept me accept me

me what difference difference does what I'm wearing make to you all you should see me as a strong brave boy in front of you I'd be proud to call me your friend this isn't about the clothes oh our ability to navigate this world together Charlie you've got a bag of piss solitoke to you I don't know what I mean the problem with that what's the difference what's we don't like this comparing what you're wearing Michael oh you're even wearing jab and like I just tries to make them I not fit into your conventional understanding of the world it's reactionary it's fucking something crazy it's not right you guys

up your movie night and watch Disney and Pixar's toy story five now streaming on Disney plus rated PG boo to the bowling alley I think he's getting mixed up in a bowling analogy and boo boo to the hot dogs and the pressure to choose a funny name when you're with your friends but yay to the shoes they're bold are they so original and they are authentic and authenticity is the only thing we should be striving for no no he's back on track not the mindless regurgitation of trends based on decisions made by vapid people but our own decisions based on what we like we are sure this might be a bit shocking to you and the other sleep sheep walkers but I'm hoping that this shock brings your heart right back up to life I'm not asking you to join me by I'm asking you my friends to see me

you know what Charlie you're bang on you weren't good enough friends and that's waylaying than anything we could ever wear let's go out go crazy at the bars maybe even have ourselves a real good time and the best thing is that we'll do it together as proud friends yeah but not before you take off that little fucking awful t-shirt Dave you look like a dirty little fucking lunatic there you go another vital piece good lord that for behind the scenes that took fucking ages to do that was probably 15 minutes of work for that unbelievable we are by the way doing some post credit scenes which I've not seen anyone realize so occasionally thanks a lot thanks a lot stick around for our to the credits you might find something a bit there and now something Charlie's piece on the top of the week which is

fashion something a little bit different from me this week Andrew interesting I was a I was a young man and I was lost and in many ways I still am but I applied to work at ASOS when I was 21 in their marketing department and I'm just gonna read you my cover letter to ASOS this is from 2017 dear sir slash madam my name is Charlie Milner and I'm 21 years old I'm writing to express my interest in ASOS's marketing graduate program my passion for fashion was sparked upon discovering the different strategies brands used to make clothes and get them out there I am now applying for this position as it combines my interests in fashion and marketing the dynamic nature of the fashion with all these new clothes and the volatility of customer's tastes and the impact of technological innovations mean that companies must constantly adapt and reevaluate to compete marketing therefore

is crucial to drive future growth the most of nature of the program in different key areas offers considerable opportunity for personal development I am very excited by this the four rotations will facilitate a massive understanding of how ASOS's marketing strategies are initiated evaluated and modified I'm particular I am particularly drawn to the departments of digital marketing and brand insight given their external eternal relevant no sorry given their eternal relevance to consumer life and public perception participation in exciting corporate initiatives such as meeting my colleagues in boss campaign execution market research projects and brand delivery will enable me to make a tangible contribution towards ASOS's commercial marketing output how much left quickly thank you for considering my application I looked forward to hearing from you in the near future yours faithfully Charlie Milner did you get the job no oh dear we haven't got time for a proper

analysis that we should because we've got a bloody tennis court to get to I'm afraid Charlie yeah well we learned this we we've learned that basically to be honest there is so many clothes out there well the fact we're going to do it them all where they put them all is what is landfill it's not great landfill is always terrible isn't it we'll just fill the land with rubbish we're going to big up charity shops yeah the crisis in Finnsbury Park is up there for me as usual we have learned you've learned nothing that we've discussed it's all just kind of outside topics that we haven't brought this podcast I guess I've learned that um we all need clothes we all need clothes I mean we've we've covered in previous episode that the age of the natureist is over because you can't be naked in a ranking many so you've learned from our like maybe our second episode in on nudity basically there's no we we're going to have to solve a problem of fashion we have to so we haven't done that with this episode I've learned that our clothes are inherently political and you can't take symbol away from them you might want to but at the end of the day we should all just realise that there's just cloth over our cocks and vaginas basically

that's kind of it lovely Charlie and her bombs I love you see you next week you're gonna find the truth until you're straight they're exploring themselves in the universe and it's quite Charlie's even worse you're meaning it alive you're gonna find it so sit back and listen your big track that's it out from me anyway what a bloody you they're should be brave Charlie but who need no you got it when we move it on when he's bravery when you look like what you obviously I can't use that obviously I do you start and you don't understand you need this last one get on with it shut up yeah shut up okay okay okay okay be brave Charlie who needs bravery when you look like this exactly the same
