About this episode

Summary:

People tend to think of capitalism and labor unions as inherently antagonistic towards each other. But they’re not. It was actually a very anti-capitalist law passed as part of the New Deal that changed the nature of the employment contract and destroyed the natural buyer-seller dynamic that would otherwise emerge.

Additional Reading & Listening:

Unions’ push at Amazon, Apple and Starbucks could be ‘most significant moment in the American labor movement’ in decades

It’s not labor unions that destroy the economy; it’s the New Deal and its awful progeny

The National Labor Relations Act of 1935 (text)

Free Gift from Tom:

Download a free copy of Tom's new e-book, It’s the Fed, Stupid, at itsthefedstupid.com.

It’s also available in paperback here.

It’s priced at a pre-hyperinflation level so grab a few copies for friends if you can.

It makes a great introduction to the government’s most economically damaging institution for liberals, conservatives, libertarians, socialists, and independents alike.
