11:12Douglas. He's got darker skin than I and we always say what's a fast white boy? Yeah I had a one tell me that we were lining up to race and he said he was standing behind me. He was in the blocks behind me saying no white wish to race against me and I gave him a run for his money. It was the kid who won state. He said wow you're the fast white boy. That's hollowness I'm telling you right now. It's like a white boy that can play basketball it's just not supposed to happen. No white chocolate. Yeah white chocolate. So these are your stats through four games. This is like fantasy. It's funny because one of the papers out here does a fantasy football, high school fantasy football and every week you're the top of that. For four games you've thrown for 880 yards and 11 touchdowns and one interception and you've run the ball 80 times for 829 yards and 14 touchdowns. So your average in 10 yards a carry running the ball. 25 touchdowns between two games. Three games four games. Four games.

12:13So that's six touchdowns again. That's amazing. And your teammates are fast too. Oh yeah they're really fast. That helps out a lot. I haven't faster see her so I can go out and catch the ball. They'll run it. Get a pass. And your lineman don't have to keep a whole open a long time. That helps too. Oh yeah. Which even at that they still can hold a hold it for a long time like last game. I had so much time. The pocket it was crazy. And y'all had a real you had almost a tragedy in your last football game. Y'all play we played Anson or y'all did Haskell play danson and one of your teammates had and got hit in the head. And they had to helicopter him off the football field. Yes sir. And y'all were down 48 44 with a minute left. Y'all were fixing get the ball back. Everyone else games have been a barn burner. Yes sir. And that had to be hard heavy on y'all's heart the whole time. Oh yeah it was it's soaked out of happening on but I'm glad he was back. He ended up having a spinal concussion. I think I'm saying it right but he was able to get back home the next day and he's doing good now. It's taking easy rest. I've never even heard of a spinal concussion until that day. I haven't either that it's surprising when I heard I know it was a thing but they say

13:17when you get it you can't move your body for about four hours and you're out. Your aunt Hannah who was my daughter in law who we loved to death texted me and I was getting an update on the game and she said oh my gosh and she told me what had happened. She goes I don't know what's wrong Jeffers because he hasn't moved at all because it's bad. And then I told Michelle I said I bet they don't play the rest of the game and then come back they canceled the game and then the helicopter and then we kept up with it all night long couldn't sleep all night to sad deal and then when I woke up this morning that morning it was Saturday morning was like 5 a.m. and I've seen his mom and made a new post and she usually gives me the scores his mother does. She updates me on the scores usually and I even a message and I was like an update update and I never did hear anything. What a dick. You know then I felt bad well I didn't I mean I didn't know. Give me an update woman and she's these puts all updates every time I ask she can boy she's automatic get an update and get your. What would you have done if she'd be like well my son is currently loading up on a helicopter. The same thing I did I prayed for him what I just said I'm praying for you I didn't know. Hello I need an update sir you're just going to have to wait a second that's not that's

14:22very. The class did your whole team go to Abeling to the hospital. No but a lot of everybody could go but there was a bunch of you at the hospital that yes sir. Well what what an amazing he's very very very lucky and I saw the hit it was just a weird just bad deal. Just one of those weird things in the wrong spot but. Alright let's talk football now. You and Andy have a lot in common you know her have something common you don't you have in common. You're both. Both were both well that one of y'all is fast one of you was not so fast. You're both had number nine. Yes sir. Both of y'all had a smoking hot moms. So do you have to do the same thing Andy did Andy used to have to deal with Andy's moms got it going on. Do your friends give you a hard time better mom. Well every now and then it's not so bad now but it used to be pretty bad. It goes away after a while. Oh yeah. After a while you just get used to. Yeah. Right like you know you just kind of expect it. Yeah. And your dad and me have something in common is it probably didn't bother us that's a compliment

15:24to us. Yeah. Because I had a guy in town one time said something to me and he goes that body I said no he said would me there he goes right nobody everything's my wife saw it. Yeah so you probably don't know the song it's called Stacy's mom. No I know it. No you do know it. Okay. Alright well they just all my classmates switched it up to Andy's mom. Oh okay. Yeah Andy's mom's got it going on. Yeah so I got to hear that for three years. No they didn't make any songs yet so. I think listen to this a lot of it going. Hey in mom. Hey in mom. He's got it going on. Yeah. But you're a senior now like that happened when I was a sophomore so. You should be okay. Yeah your mom was hotter when you were a sophomore than she was. I mean if nothing else be like listen boys. No don't do that it'll be fine. So it'll pass. What are our plans after high school? We were trying to play college football and get an education degree and then be a coach. You getting recruited by anybody yet? No sir not yet. I got invited to some game day visits and hopefully those go somewhere but.

16:26What schools? H. Harden Simmons and then Charlton. Charlton's got up and coming program too. They're going to be a division one now they fixed to be I think they're going to division one. I think. No they are division one they're small division one. Are they that FCS? Because they played us because they played tech a few years ago. And they've got brand new facilities. Okay so you're in a 440 you've one trustee you've got second state and track right? Yes and then you all did you win in the spring relay? No we didn't add the best handoffs that day. But you legitimately have the speed to play division one football. You keep putting these stats up someone's going to take a chance on you. How big are you? I'm 511 175. I still play deep you don't want to play defensive when you want to be a slot receiver. Yes I would hopefully it could be a slot receiver but I wanted my playing defense like going hit somebody every once in a while. See that was the hard and that's the hard thing is like.

17:27I went from quarterback to having to play something else. You were all district defensive back. No but I would I wouldn't want to go play college and do that. You weren't fast enough. I wouldn't want to go play college and play wide receiver. You wouldn't. Fuck no. You don't want to get hit like that. I like running. Well that makes the way. I'm trying all the damn time for a receiver. I like listen. Quarterbacks got it made in the shade like one more mop with those some balls we'll work on our hand off and then like we're done. The high receiver is running fade routes and slants at full speed. They do have a lot to do. They're practice like Jesus. Do you run RPOs? Oh yes sir. How does that work exactly for people to let's run pass option play. So if you got a run pass option you just go to the right side of the left side or what what what what's your it really depends on which way the run plays going and it's usually going. I mean we're looking towards opposite side of the ball most of the time on RPOs watching the wherever my readman is go from there. Who what is your main read on that the middle linebacker. Or do they even have middle linebackers any know we do we have middle linebackers but

18:29it's more the outside linebacker see if you bite in on the run. And then you go I'm assuming teams with your speed because I know one of the coaches that coach against you and they play different defense against you than they do at Rales because I got to make sure to contain kind of like Lamar Jackson. So you've got someone that shadows you probably on every play. Um yeah I guess for the most part yes sir. So when you roll there's somebody goes with you all the time. Yes sir which it also is and or it helps us out a lot too because our our receivers are so used to me having to roll out or something like that that they they know where to be and know where I'm looking and they're so fast that they can get to that open spot I can give it to them they'll get more yards and me having to go run. Do you all have plays like a y'all run like a skinny post or anything like that or is it all just run past options where they're y'all run any deep routes. Yes sir we do we do we run uh when is that we run a whole lot of deep routes but we got deep route plays because it seems like in football even in the pros like the cowboy game that day they don't throw them all deep like they used to.

19:30No they really don't. Everything's a quick five vintignard pass and let the receiver do something. Yeah that's really how it goes I mean a lot of receivers they'll have so much speed these days to make one miss go score. That's that's exactly what it's all like. Well what's the biggest game you've played this year? Stanford y'all hate Stanford. Stanford was actually I would say Santo. Santo was the biggest team they were ranked number 11 to 8 division 2. Well I'm talking about you personally. Oh me personally. They went on to the game last year for playoff so that was probably the biggest game. Well what about this year? Who's it? This year. Do you hate Stanford like everybody else in Haskell does? Yes I mean I won't say I hate him but I don't. I'm not. What why is that? It's just been something I guess it's the style I was raised in Haskell. Your whole family hates Stanford. Yeah it's just how I was raised. I mean Haskell don't like Stanford. Stanford don't like Haskell. It's just how it's always been I guess. So I should wear my Stanford Bulldog t-shirt that I got that night. You think it's because of the rings that Stanford has and there's a little bit of envy from Haskell or

20:35well I want to say that. It's been so long I mean since I can remember it's always hated. Hate Stanford that's what they talk about. When's the last time y'all beat Stanford? But I mean they won state in what 2013 ish so that would be about time you were a kid. That would be about the time because I doubt Haskell hated Stanford when Stanford was going on with 10 in 2005. Probably not a lot of hate then. Yeah probably not but I don't know when it started. That'd be about time you were a kid. But that's y'all's biggest rival right? Yes sir. And y'all just y'all absolutely can't stand them. Yes sir. Because your cousin my granddaughter she hates Stanford and she has and she's like five or six years old and so Jeff being Jeff that I am I like just to start the part with her all the time. I even had her convinced you were going to play for Stanford this year. Oh no. And she was oh she was all worked up over that shit. Yeah 2013 they won 2011 2012 2013 Stanford. They were runner up in 111 12 and 13 and then they were runner up. So 13 years and 13 years ago that being you know that's about the time you were a young pop.

21:41Yeah but that's when it started honestly. Yeah. Had to be in V. In V. Not a good look. Just got to get them pat them on the back and be like good job. It's okay. So are you friends with things the kids on Stanford football team? My friends with some of them yes I mean for the most part I am. So it's not like a hatred deal. What about like Holly? We don't really play Holly in football so but I'm friends with some of them but we really don't play Holly so. Well okay we got district coming up right now. Yes sir. And it looks like y'all are going to be one of the top two teams in district. Yes sir. But you got to play the boys the dairy boys over at Winthorst. Oh yeah. And they got to hell over program. I got a couple of my buddies or kids play for Winthorst. Winthorst has a very good program for everybody because we're people all over the world listening to this. It's a Catholic town basically dairy outside of which stuff falls and they are a great history of being good in all sports. They've won football state couple of times in football.

22:41So that should be also toughest competition in district. Oh yes sir for sure it will be. Because they played Monster the other day and got beat like by four points. Yeah it was close. I think it may have been for y'all. That 34 to 30 or something. Yeah it was really close. It had a couple controversial calls at the end like we always do. Monster is good though. Yeah I got really good team. Monster has a really good run in back. Fast-watt kid too. Yeah he is fast. You should figure out how to get a receiving touchdown. Put that in the playbook and then you can have all three passing, rushing and receiving. We used to have kind of a play like that. A little toss back play to the run in back and throw it over but. What's that called Philadelphia is that the play called? Or Boise or something. It's the play that's really special. Philly special. Yep that's what it is. Yeah. What do you want? Right. Go ahead. Put that back in the playbook. That way you can have all three touchdowns this year. Sooner or later maybe we will but right now I mean I want to say I have a really like really good receiver so. Yeah really. It's not about open. It's not about that. It's about just something different.

23:42Yeah. It mixes things up. Oh yeah for sure. But your offense there's so many different ways we can run plays like every week it's always something new so there's so many. Well we went to the Haskell Stanford game and. You scored on like the second play the game. Yes sir. And it was a busted coverage and we noticed by that middle of the third quarter that the defense just weren't playing high school defense they were only blitz and they only were brushing three guys against Joe. Is that coming is every game that way? It's been that way. I think Anson and Santa has some guys coming in and bullets but for the most part it's been that way. It's like seven on seven. Yeah. It really is. It really helps out too because what we have Ethan is running back and he he'll run that ball hard. He'll just run right up the middle and he ain't gonna bud. She's just gonna go straight forward to you take him down but. I think that's a lot of the reason too. Why they don't blitz because of how we run our running plays and stuff we can and we're so fast we can easily just bounce it out to the outside.

24:43So do y'all go to you got practice every day after school? Yes. Well why are you on that heaven school today? Uh it's in this six weeks we get the day off teacher work day. No you only go school four days a week anyways. No that's after Christmas. Oh so y'all are on a five day week right now. Yes sir. Okay I did not know that. Boys next week are off Monday. I heard a very interesting thing yesterday that your mother told me Andy. Okay. The lady that's running for governor in Texas she says the one first thing she's gonna do is make all the schools go to five day weeks and I said something to mom I said what and your mom goes that's a good idea I go why she goes look at the schools with the best academics they're going to school five days a week not four days a week. I go what she said they're going to five days she goes because when you go to school five days you have one days of screw off Fridays to screw off during football season. So you only really going to school four days in learning. So when you're going to school four days and you take one day off for football shit you're only basically going three days of school and I go well that kind of makes sense. I haven't seen any statistics that back that up but maybe what are your thoughts on that mr. school board member. I so I don't want to shit on your dream are you going to be a high school coach or college coach

25:49oh high school okay so college if you can a lot more money. Well here's the deal so if you're a new if you're a new teacher you have to you cannot retire until you're 65 years old. Okay so let's say you come out of college you go the route I did you you do your best you cram four years into five and you come out in your 24. So you can't retire until you're 65 years old. Most of these kids are going to have college courses so now it's three years of college probably. Okay 21 let's say or 22. We'll say 22 you cannot retire until you're 65. So that's 43 years of service. Uh your last pay bump is going to be at your 20. So you're going to be 42 years old and the last pay bump that you're going to get from the state of Texas is going to come when you're 43 years old. You cannot retire until you're 65 so you're going to work for 22 years with no pay increase. Unless the school bumps up your pay that is possible but the last step from the state comes at

26:55your 20. So you got 20 more 22 more years of additional service with no pay increase and then you're going to be 65 years old and then you can finally retire. Um go try to go college. All right go go play college get your foot in the door there and it'll be better. Don't go to high school. You cannot retire so you're telling me I thought it was a rule of 80 or something they had in the state not anymore. It is it is but explain the rule of 80 for people that are listening to them. So the rule of 80 is your years of service plus your age once the equal 80 you can draw the full penny but now at 65 you got to have the rule of 80 and be 65 before you get the full package. So like if you were 22 and you taught for 20 years you would be 42 plus your age of 42 so you could retire you could have retired before right. No. How's the rule of 80 working out? Explain years of experience plus your age. Okay so if you've taught 20 okay yeah well shit rule of 80 still would be forever. It's tough.

27:55Like I said I'm not trying to like I'm not trying to squash your dream or anything I think we need more people like you that want to get into coaching and be a good uh influence on young people as a financial standpoint. No yeah I get it. It's tough like you're gonna make $36,000 a year starting out you're gonna make a stipend a coaching stipend so that's another 10 to 15 20 depending on where you go. It's tough. If that's your dream go for it dive all in don't have acid. The world will be a better place because you chose to coach there's no doubt about it. Uh if I was your financial advisor I would say go try to coach at college. I'll try to coach college or something like that but like I said look at the hours I 'm influenced a lot of small town coaches and I have been forever and some big school coaches and it ain't much different for them either but you got they get them coaches work 80 to 100 hours a week. Teachers use to say all the time well loading we all work a lot hours you do but they get a teach also and then they got to go coach and 11 o'clock 11 12 o'clock at night on Friday

29:00night they're coming in from football and they got to do laundry. 31:05starts at uh what it's a 250 and then we'll go all the way what what's what's practice are we are we we hidden yes football practice so we'll have pads on we'll are you actually full contact practice yes sir we'll have a contact on Wednesdays we'll do board drills line up in front of each other and go at it till somebody loses on Wednesdays yes sir that's just Wednesdays y'all hit uh we do a hindrows we do tackling drills on Tuesday but things have changed a lot really haven't exactly how I did it what when we were in school they tackled every day well you have that's what you had a lot you you played at a five a school you had you had disposable kids you roll out there when I was in school we had how many kids we have on varsity I'm just saying that but you can't the rules are different now too no you're he's managing his he's managing his risk can you practice can no I'm not knocking the coach or nothing I'm just saying things are different because don't you can't do often can y'all go full pads I don't know that rule I don't really go full pads I don't think they're allowed to do it like every day like we used to be able to that's what I'm getting

32:07at when we got in season we had full pad we were half we were half shell on Monday full pads on Tuesday half shell on Wednesday there was very very little hitting on Wednesday our full contact came on Tuesday so basically the same as what they're doing but I think the rules have changed on that from back 40 years ago where it was guys practice that's what I'm saying I'm not knocking programs at all I'm just saying things are different today same with two days like you used to have true two days you might practice six day hours a day y'all are limited on in two days often y'all can have contact and I mean yeah after you can practice we got I think like three hours a day of practice during two days yeah and yeah it's used to be twice that much at least that's what I'm getting at is the rules are different now even the pros don't hit like they used to so I stay healthy so so you practice and then um Thursday's a lot day right there's a lot of teams want to have anything but helmet on we'll do special teams we'll run through all the plays defense offensive wise and just make sure everybody knows what they're doing okay Friday gets here it's football day go to school in the morning uh no we uh actually wake up at uh seven or earlier

33:11you got to be at the elementary at 7 30 give all little kids high five you're in the school with your jersey on that's cool deal yeah that's the little little kids mean a lot to them oh yeah so you do the high five at the school on Fridays then we get to school about eight o'clock gotta be there for the tardy belt ring so we don't get in trouble and then we'll go through school have breakfast at school and lunch uh we usually saw at the elementary they give us donuts we'll have uh donuts or something whatever they give us at the elementary we'll eat head to school and luckily the classes are short of that day because we're on pepper alley schedule with the games at home that's why I was talking about Fridays or nobody learns nothing on a Friday I just everybody's so focused on that game and everybody's ready to go watch the game go cheer it on so get out of school go to pepper alley go to pepper alley at 255 then we'll go home till about five o'clock get a show at the house for five o'clock if we want to take a nap or something get your body ready stretch out go up there get uh get all your clothes on at the thing at the weight room all not weight room locker room sorry and then get spatted up get taped up whatever you
