Minnesota is experiencing a significant increase in deportations, particularly of Somali nationals, with orders surging nearly tenfold in recent months. This remarkable transformation is attributed to a shift in enforcement strategies under Tom Homan, who has streamlined operations to emphasize targeted arrests and cooperation with local officials. The empty streets and malls in Somali communities serve as clear indicators of the impact of these policies, which have dismantled the previous assumption of non-enforcement and redefined immigration law practices in the state.

Dr. Steve Turley joined me every day as we discover answers to today's toughest challenges and explore the revitalization of conservative civilization. This is Turley Talks. Being astonishing is happening in Minnesota. Deportations, particularly Somali deportations, have skyrocketed throughout the state.
The streets are changing. The malls are emptying and even CNN seems stunned by what its cameras just captured. But what you're seeing is only the outward sign of a far bigger transformation taking place behind the scenes. Stick me to the very end of this video because we're going to see what changed, who made it happen, and why the most consequential phase of this operation may only now be just getting started. Hey, gang, it's me, Dr. Steve, your Patreon Professor. Here to help you make sense of the madness with breaking news and analysis, you're not going to get anywhere else to make sure to smack that bell and subscribe button. Deportation orders for Somali nationals have surged in Minnesota of late. By some estimates, deportation orders have 10x over the last several weeks as the Trump administration accelerates immigration cases and moves forward with a broader enforcement crackdown. More than 1,000 Somalia silent seekers nationwide have been ordered deported since February,
according to a Minnesota star Tribune analysis of federal immigration data. More than half of those removal orders involve Somalis living in Minnesota, marking a nearly 10 fold increase from 2025. Nearly every Somali removal decision during the first eight months of 2026 came through an accelerated process that attorneys called the rocket docket. Postwork cases that have been scheduled far into the future were actually brought forward into time and reassigned and heard remotely on a much faster timeline. Leftists and premigration attorneys are frankly stunned by the sheer speed of these deportations. They're calling the whole process completely unprecedented. They're arguing these rush hearings can compromise due process. Of course, these are the very same attorneys that could have cared less about due process when Biden was opening up the border to over 10 million illegal migrants over four years.
But even CNN was stunned to see the effect of these mass deportation efforts. They went to Carmel Mall in Minneapolis, which is frequented by Somali migrants, and they found the mall nearly empty as a result of these deportations. A lot of people haven't been leaving their home for work or making them living. So it's very unfortunate and very sad. I feel like it's sad to see everyone inside right now. This is very empty for this area, especially this place to be this quiet nobody walking around. I think is insane. Sarah, we went to Carmel Mall. That's really the heart of the Somali community here in Minneapolis. It is normally bustling. There are people everywhere as the shop owners, you've tried to make a living here in America. And it was virtually empty. Most of the people that we spoke with were people who work there. And that was pretty jarring for the people who know that that is normally a very vibrant place.
Yeah, again, these are the same people, the same liberal elites who couldn't give a flip about protecting citizens when the border was wide open under president auto pan. They're just shameless at this point. It never ceases to amaze me how the legacy media feeds off of this addiction to victimhood. It's the standard cultural Marxist playbook. You reframe any and all events as a drama between two groups of people, victims and victimizers, oppressors and the oppressors. And you always know which group someone belongs to based on the identity markers that you can tick off. So predictable and frankly completely boring at this point. Charizard Tom Homan has completely changed the equation and all of this when president Trump sent him to Minnesota in late January. Homan took over an operation that become consumed by protests, political outrage and the fallout from two fatal shootings involving federal agents while the White House wanted
the mission refocused on deportations and better coordination with local officials. That's the key contrast with how Kristi Nome approached this whole thing. Under Nome and Border Patrol commander Greg Rubino, roughly 3000 federal personnel arrived in Minneapolis, but turmoil threatened to overwhelm the mission politically. So if anything, both Bavino and Nome, they seem to thrive off the public confrontations for whatever reason, right? They thought exposing the Democrats to be the utterly insane advocates for illegals was a winning image for them. Trump didn't think so. And he thought that those confrontations were not only unnecessary, but that they were right. They were slowing down the entire deportation operations effort. So he brought in Tom Homan and Homan brought in ice veterans mentality in the mix here. He clarified command. He emphasized targeted arrests.
He negotiated with local officials and gained jail cooperation so ice could take custody before release. And that was what's so key to the success of these deportation operations. Nome's approach looked tougher because it put more agents in public view. But Homan's approach was actually tougher, where it actually counts. Custody transfers, case completion, targeted arrests, and of course, removals within days. He had announced that 700 federal officers could leave Minnesota because more counties were communicating with ice and allowing agents to assume custody inside secure facilities. He called it smarter enforcement, not less enforcement. And he simultaneously made it clear that anyone in the country illegally remains subject to enforcement even if criminals and national security threats received priority.
That's not retreat. It means fewer street confrontations, less manpower wasted finding people already in jail, and a system that continues after the cameras disappear. And the numbers prove it. Wait until you see this. As you know, I make predictions for living. Elections, markets, where this whole country, the world is headed. Sarah Hernandez fights for working families. the right support. And I'll be the first to tell you, a prediction is still a prediction. Right turn on the TV and everybody's going to tell you exactly what the market does next quarter. And sometimes they get it right, but mostly. Now let me tell you what I'm seeing. There is one corner of the American economy where I don't have to predict a thing because the outcome is already written down. It's actually baked into the cake. It's called a tax lien. And here's how it works. When people fall behind on their property taxes, the county still needs that money for the schools, the roads, the sheriff. So the county sells that unpaid tax bill to an investor. And from that moment on, the debt is now owed to the investor with interest. And that interest rates not set by your bank. It's not set by Wall Street. Certainly not set by the Fed. It's set by state law. In some states, 12 to 24 percent written right into statute and secured by real American
property. Now, here's the part almost nobody talks about. The owner gets a deadline and that deadline is written into law as well. The law is there to have your back. If they pay, you get your money back plus the interest. If they never pay, the law gives you a path to the property itself. Now think about that. Two outcomes and both of them are spelled out before you put in a single dollar. That's not prediction. That's a position. Now, if you've been with me this year, you know my friend Jay. He's been doing this for years now and teaching regular, hardworking folks how to do it too. And you've watched him buy a tax lien live right in front of you. But every time you only saw half the story, the buy. So this time I asked Jay for the other half, the part nobody ever shows you. What actually happens when the owner does not pay? So next Tuesday, October 13th at 8 PM Eastern, 5 PM Pacific.
Jay is hosting a free live masterclass who's going to buy a real tax lien live on the call and then walk you step by step through how that deadline gets enforced when the bill never gets paid. Now here's the catch that live purchase happens only once in real time. There's no replay that when it's done, it's done. By February of this year, federal agents had arrested more than 4,000 illegal criminal aliens in a matter of mere weeks since the beginning of Operation Metro Surge back in December of last year. Again, this is absolutely unprecedented and the numbers of those arrests have only skyrocketed now that officials in Minnesota have for all practical purposes surrendered to ICE.
Remember, it's the policy of every sanctuary city to refuse to honor what are called detainers. That's when local officials arrest an illegal migrant and then federal agents are informed of that. They instruct local law enforcement, keep that illegal migrant in custody until the feds get there so they can deport them. Local law enforcement is required. They are required by sanctuary city policies. May I should maybe I should say insane sanctuary city policies. They are required to release that illegal alien from custody so as to evade federal law enforcement. I mean, I know it's insane, but hey, Democrats will fill their job description, right? What happened since Tom Homan took over these deportation efforts is that Minnesota Democrats have folded. They bent the knee. They're giving up on that key sanctuary city policy and they're now honoring detainers
all across the state, which means that it now only requires two or three federal agents to make an arrest. So the illegal is already detained rather than 10 or 12 like you saw in all those videos just to pick up one person in some house. So what that means is that the eight or the 10 no longer require are no longer required to arrest this now detainee illegal alien so they can go and arrest more off the streets. 4,000 a matter of eight weeks is just the beginning fast forward now to this month October and we could see the second phase. The street surge was drawn down, but the courts accelerated TPS protection protections were targeted for termination, denied asylum cases, moved toward final orders and Somali removal orders in Minnesota rose nearly 10 fold from the previous year. Tom Homan did not adjudicate these cases and he can't receive credit for every order.
The courts, I.C.D.H.S. the Justice Department, the White House, they all played their separate roles, but Homan's achievement was turning enforcement from a temporary occupation into an actual durable system that's working in effect 24 seven. He helped move the strategy away from mass deployment as an end in of itself and toward the coordinated pipeline that actually matters and gives us these massive numbers. Identify, arrest, transfer, adjudicate, detain, and then finally gone. Remove. That's why Tom Homan is proven I believe far more effective in this than Kristi Nome. She she supplied force and visibility, but he supplied discipline and sustainability after the surge ended and the CNN footage from Carmel Mall is testament to that change even if the network never intended it that way.
An enforcement policy only deters illegal presence when people believe orders will finally be carried out and the sudden quiet inside a normally bustling mall shows that the old assumption of non-enforcement has been shattered. The mall is empty, the rocket docket is moving, the removal orders are surging and the era of immigration law existing only on paper is coming to an end. Tom Homan didn't make enforcement louder, he made it more effective and that's already proving to be far more consequential.
