This is Matt Rogers from Lost Culture East. It's with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. This is Bowen Yang from Lost Culture East. It's with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. You know when people try a new food and suddenly it's like, okay, hold on. I got a new favorite food. That's the reaction a lot of people are having when they first try Cupid Mayon. Yeah, it's the one with the red cap and the little baby on the bottle. You've probably seen it at the grocery store. And this mayo is different. Mm-hmm. Most mayonnaise uses whole eggs. Cupid only uses egg yolks, which gives it this rich umami flavor. It's smoother, deeper, almost buttery. Once people try it, they start putting it on everything. Egg sandwiches, fries, burgers, chefs use it, restaurants use it, people who really care about flavor use it, put it on just about anything. Then you'll understand. Cupid, the original Japanese mayonnaise.

So when it was 90 out late morning and 93 early afternoon, I was like, yeah, it's kind of cold out there today. So we had a good day in Texas today. Thank you for joining us tonight. Looking forward to this to this live stream. Should be a fun show. So those of you who are not signed up yet on my email list. If you go to hemradio 2.com. Forth slash sign up to you should get a page that looks like this.
I've switched to be hive, which is a new provider. And it's coming from a different email address. And some people are replying back to me and saying, Hey, is this you? Or is this a spam account? I'm like, no, it's actually me. It's coming from a different email address. And I might change it back to the original email address because it is confusing to people. So thank you out Frank just shared the link to that in the chat right there. So I appreciate you guys signing up on the signing up on the email list. I got some cool stuff up coming for that. Also, I said an email yesterday about new items added to the website. If you go to the website and click on the newly added items, which is that link right there. We've got some stuff from Bradley Mountain. I am a proud new reseller for shadow circuits gear, shadow circuits. They make the bag that the spool tennis command you might have seen their bags elsewhere. Tech Prepper uses several these. So I've got a lot of the pretty much all of their gear. Either here or about to be here, different colors of what not.
Different sizes of these bags all made in the USA bags utility bags for your antennas and connectors and whatnot. And of course, Blue Ridge Overland gear new supplier for them as well. Got several of their bags that are in stock and more coming in as the weeks go on. So all the other new stuff down there that's on the website. Appreciate you guys shopping that website and helping to support the channel in that way. So I don't know how many guys are on Instagram. But if you're on Instagram, you're going to want to pull up your Instagram page and follow some of these guys because these guys are people that I started following on Instagram. I don't know a few months ago, a year ago, maybe some of them. And they all post about off-grid communications, HF radio, simplex, six top five, two work, JSA call of VAR AC, all kinds of different stuff that you and I are used to hearing about. And they do a really good job of posting about that kind of stuff. So I reached out to several of these guys and I reached out to about three or four other guys that weren't able to make it tonight.
And I said, let's get you guys onto a live stream just because you're not my normal crew that we usually talk to and you're kind of out there in the Instagram space rather than the a couple of them have YouTube channels. But they're mostly in the Instagram space. And I thought this might be a really fun live stream to talk to somebody who does the same type of stuff we do on this channel. Maybe an expanded effort. And but you know, kind of sits in the same realm we are and is knowledgeable about the things we talk about. And that kind of thing. So I set this up and we were going to do it last week and a couple guys had a conflict. So we pushed it back this week. I hope you guys enjoy this right here. Frank's over here talking to these guys right now. And I got a, I got a, I got a, I got it. I got a, I got a, I got to see, I got to get a break in the conversation here. Can we get a break break break break? Because because I mean, it's always Frank that's always the one that's kind of like making people wait and whatnot. So good evening guys. How's everyone doing? Howdy. Good work. Good.
So good. Good. He says, so you might notice the two guys on the, on the top left corner are both named Mike and the guy beneath them is named Steve. So this is exactly what we need in our community is more mics and steves. So it's, it's just a great group of people to be around. So Frank, what's going on? But how are you? You didn't live stream tonight. Nope. This is my day off. I had, I do my live streams every second and fourth Sundays. Okay. And next coming Sunday, we're going to have world radio lead come on and they're going to talk about all the new features they have plus all the features that are free. And you don't have to do anything for and it's pretty much like this. It's a great logger free. And they've got to talk about that. And then off grid desktop app for Linux. And I was already a fan of there. I was already a fan of theirs. Okay. But since I switched my laptop to Mint Linux, I've been loving it.
And it's not my, I used to use a boom to all the time back in the day. But they have a downloadable and you sync it when you're online and then you take it and you work with it offline. And it's, it's a, it's a Linux distro that you can update. You can install through a through a terminal command line or through the package manager, whichever. And it works great. I've been loving it. So I'm going to do a video about that. Yeah. So they're going to come on my live stream next Sunday. Good. Yep. Every second and four Sundays my live stream. And then the other weeks I released my videos. That's my schedule. Yeah. All right. If I don't let Frank talk first guys and he just rolls over everybody. So. Oh, you just sir. You just. I mean, no. It's kind of true, but he's gotten a lot better. He's not as bad as you used to be. So yeah, thanks, man. I appreciate you being here. Frank. No, bro. Frank's going to be watching the chat for questions and whatnot. And he's got links to all these guys Instagram channels. Instagram.
That's what we're doing. That's that's the links that I sent you. That's the real thing. It is actually. I love Instagram. I really do. I love Instagram. I think it's a great platform. But, um, yeah, that's what most of these guys are on Instagram. That's three of these guys have YouTube channels also. But, uh, yeah, mostly Instagram is what we're going to talk about. So, uh, but you know, we're talking, we're talking about radio. We're not talking about Instagram or anything else. We're talking about radio. So there you go. Uh, I'm going to start at the top left and just kind of work my way down for you guys. So, uh, uh, Mike and Mike, good evening to you guys. Tell us who you are and, uh, what you do. And you guys are in the fit. Frank said they're, they were the only real hams in the chat tonight because they're actually in the field right now. So, uh, they're out camping somewhere in Idaho. I think it is. And they've got their truck set up with an awning on the truck. And, uh, you know, they're just great signal. Really? Yeah, great signal. So, uh, introduce us to yourself. Guys, go ahead. Pessimism. It's an ever going to improve a disconnected healthcare system.
Next. So, what will? At Optum, we're working every day to connect primary, specialty, and pharmacy care. And tell flow or prescription costs. Will we fix it all overnight? This is Bowen Yang from Los Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. Okay, we've been talking about Cupid male for a minute now, Bowen. Wow, the feedback we're getting. I mean, so many of y'all love this stuff. You're stopping us in the street going, I love Cupid. And if you're thinking, wait, what is Cupid? Do you not have the internet? It's the OG Japanese mayonnaise. The one with the red cap and the little baby on the bottle. Once you know what, you start seeing it everywhere. People ask what makes it different from basic mayo? Will the answer egg yolks? Cupid is made with egg yolks only, giving it this incredibly rich umami flavor that elevates everything. Burgers, fries, sandwiches, chicken, noodles. Chefs use it, restaurants use it, people who really love food and flavor use it. Whatever you're eating, Cupid. So if you haven't tried Cupid yet, find the bottle with the red cap and see what everyone's talking about. You'll understand, Cupid, the original Japanese mayonnaise.

Ben, I've been reflecting a lot lately on how many big life moments our listeners have experienced with us. Yeah, it's pretty wild. They've watched us go from dating shows to engagements, weddings, babies, buying homes. Every stage comes with new decisions. The milestones are the fun part. But the planning is where things get real. That's why Clarna stands out. Clarna gives people smarter tools to help manage everyday money

Limitations, terms, and conditions apply. Yeah, I'm Mikey, W78 HXC. I'm one third of hardcore comms. We got the two thirds of the team being represented here. We're not actually camping though. We're about 10 minutes from my house. We just live in the middle of nowhere. Oh, right. He counts, still counts. Yeah, we have good signal because we're running starlink out here because that's what you have to do because there's no cell phone service anywhere where we live in the middle of nowhere. But yeah, what else do you want to know? Well, no, go ahead, Mike.
Yeah, other Mike, go ahead. Yeah. Oh, that's it. Yeah, Mike. Oh, yeah. Okay, Mikey. Yeah, two mics. That's what we need, right? Yeah, two more mics. So, so what, how long have you been into? You guys are both amrader operators. I see that your call signs are in you put it in the Zoom chat here. So, when I invited these guys on the, on to the show, I knew they all did coms. Some of them do like GMRS stuff. I've seen, but I didn't know if they were all ham's or not. The purpose here is not necessarily ham radio. It's just kind of off-grid coms, HF radio and that kind of thing. So, yeah, tell us how you got started. How long you been at ham radio operator? What, what, what's your favorite thing to do to post about on Instagram and that kind of thing? Cool. I'll start. I, uh, I, uh, so I've been into comms in a lot of different shapes and forms for a long time and I'm a pretty avid off-roader. I mean, I'm also like most Idahoans. I'm pretty concerned with preparedness. I'm kind of a tinfoil hot guy. And so, uh, I started, uh, like most people I start with CB. So, I had a CB in the truck. That's what we, and then I was out on a trip with a bunch of guys wheeling one time.
And we were, uh, just reddened next to the Frank Church wilderness, and no return, which is like one of the most remote areas of wilderness in the United States. And, uh, we were meeting up with a buddy and that buddy was coming down from Seattle. And I was like, well, how was he going to note? I just found where we're camping right now. And he goes, oh, I'm going to throw up a beacon. And I was like, what's that mean? And he had a PRS setup. So, he had his, his, his iPad, uh, setup in on his dashboard. And he threw up the APRS beacon and sure enough, three o'clock in the morning, this dude comes rolling in and knows exactly where we're camping. And I was like, okay, I got to learn how to do that. And so, uh, about about a, about a balfing. And, uh, and I programmed a, I programmed the local repeaters. And that's as far as I got. And I, I met Mike. Uh, and, or why, I knew Mike from high school, but we reconnected out of wedding. And I'll let you tell your story from there. Uh, yeah, I mean, I kind of, uh, same thing. Tinfoil Haggai. Um, grew up, uh, you know, both my, uh, dad, uncle, grandma. We're all big CV people.
Um, you know, dad and uncle were both truckers. So, you know, they were running. I, Lee, illegal, you know, linear. I've never, I've never done that. I've never done that myself. Yeah, no, never. Yeah. Dad would tell a story that he had a aunt caught enough that he could key down and light the light, all of the lights on his trailer. Uh, off the RFI. Um, yeah. So, uh, anyways, uh, you know, it was one of those, it was like, oh, yeah, CV's cool. But like, oh, ham radio. Like that gives you more stuff. That's, like, that's pretty cool. Um, so, uh, you know, kind of got into that. And I just kind of fell down the rabbit hole and, you know, I grew up listening to too much coast to coast, A.M. and Alex Jones. So, you know, it was, it was inevitable that I was going to end up in the prepper space, I guess. And, uh, you know, Mikey and I, like I said, you know, we kind of came up with his hair-brained idea and, you know, decided to post stuff on the internet and see what people thought of it. So, yeah. So we, our, our name comes from the hardcore comms, like,
you know, there's a subgenre of punk called hardcore punk. And it's like, it's a very American style of music. Like it started here. Um, and it's, it's, the community is all about like, you know, DIY, like do it yourself, like not asking for help, building the community and stuff like that. And so Mike was like, oh, I think we should start, or I should start a comms company. And he initially just had me come, do the graphic design for him. And then it turns out that I'm pretty good at running a business too. And so eventually we just became partners. Um, started doing some training classes in the local area. We made some shirt stickers, um, done some other various stuff. And, uh, yeah, we're just kind of making a go at it. Nice. So you have a website then? Yeah, I got a, I got a website. And then we partner with this, uh, really cool local company called Simshot. They're like a, um, uh, firearms training, safety training, uh, facility. And they have like a full-on classroom. And they do a lot of different classes, like stop the bleed and stuff like that. And so, um, we do the comms classes down there for them. And right now in the curriculum, I've got comms 101.
Um, we're putting together a field day and I'm going to have a GMRS class and a, uh, a technician prep class coming up on the books, pretty soon as well. Nice. All in Idaho. All in Idaho. Yeah. I want to get to the point where we can do it remote. Uh, but we, uh, we really need a producer for that. And I have, you know, there's, there's a shortage of producers in the town where there's more cows and people. So we'll figure it out though. That's true. Yeah. I'm already asking in the chat if you guys know Bob K6, UDA. And that was like the first because they told me, because Mikey told me he's like, oh, everybody in Idaho knows everybody. I'm like, oh, so you know Bob. And they're like, yeah, we know Bob. And they figured out I was talking about a different Bob. There's a lot of Bob in here, maybe also. But, uh, yeah. But you guys, do you guys actually know K6, UDA Bob or you just know who he is? Just know who he is. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Well, if you ever get, uh, if you ever get the chance to hook up with him, he's a great dude. So he's right up your wheelhouse. So that'd be great. Bob, if you're watching, beer's on me next time we meet. So there you go.
Awesome. All right, guys, thanks for being here. Feel free to jump in at any point. Uh, we're going to move to, uh, we're going to move to Drew. pessimism. It's never going to improve a disconnected healthcare system. Next. Clarna balance account required to be eligible for cash back points limitations. Terms, the conditions apply. HOA, him radio guy. No, HOA, him radio guy. That's an interesting name. And I hate HOAs. My Galveston house is in one. So used to be in one. But you used to be in one? No, refuse. Oh, yeah. Well, I'm sitting right now as not is a voluntary HOA that I don't have to pay dues for if I don't want to. And if I do, but if I do, it's $80 a year.
So I'm like, yeah, yeah, okay. That's pretty cool. Super shit. Yeah, no doubt. So I got started. December 23. There's a group. And I offered to give on my training on something I would, you know, look at. They want to be more prepared. And I was like, I can do this or that. And one of the options was like communications. And I don't have as much background in that. But I knew like some things I got programmed about Fang before and I thought that'd be enough. And then they're like, that's what we want to do when I was like, all right. I guess I'll figure that out like right now. Insertism. So from there, you'll give that. And I was like, what am I going to do to get my license? So it seems like those local stuff you can do. And then our first child was born. So I deleted a little bit. But then using him radio prep while I was holding her with one arm, phone in the other. Nice. On an office site for an hour every day, twice a day. Pro pro pro technique. So I got my license at July 24. And then this spring, I upgraded my license to an extra class.
But really the biggest thing was that I started the page. September about two month July. So I can't count every seven. Yeah, two months. After I got my license, because I'll be like, oh, you're going to be able to set up an antenna in the H away. You know, you're all your habit terrible times. I'm not for your H away. I was like, I feel like this is a hobby that you can do whatever you want. Like as long as you follow the rules and you're good to go, just experiment, play with it, have fun. And I was like, H away, I'm radio guy. I'm going to show people that a brand new guy can make, you know, a very successful, radio adventure out of being an H away. And clearly, it's not pretty good so far because I'm talking about you all right now. Yeah. I mean, I, I, I think that I've seen videos on YouTube about setting up an antenna in H away and doing this in an H away and keying down a amplifier in H away, that kind of thing. Seems to be a popular topic because sadly, more, more often than not, these all these new neighborhoods and most states are in an H away.
So people want to know how to do that. So I think that's a great, I think that's a great thing you're doing. You didn't have much of a choice when I moved here. Yeah. The house is where they're literally full of cockroaches. There's water under all the baths. Wow. But still. Or moving into H away where the houses seem to have decent. And I didn't have a lot of time to move. So it was really, you know, bite the bullet or take your expecting wife and put her in a trailer. That's not going to happen. Yeah. We're in it up. Yeah. Well, good. I'm glad it's working out for you. How long have you been licensed as a ham? Two years. I'm like 10 days. Two days looking as watch guys. 15 minutes. I don't know. Wow. Two year. Okay. Well, so you're fairly new. But hey, you're doing great, man. This, this page you got out here. You do a lot with, with man packs. It looks like, right? Those are my two, like, very popular posts. That's really got my following from like a one year point of the page.
I was just shy and I was like. Got like a thousand is like 15 or followers. Like, you know, I can get up to 2000 followers before the first year point. That'd be awesome. Yeah. And I posted a one picture of a man pack. And then it started getting a hundred thousand views. I was like, oh my gosh, this is crazy. Yeah. They don't do that about a week later. I was like, you know, the hype was dying off. I was like, maybe if I make a second post about man packs, it'll pick back up. It, it shot up. And then each of those posts coming like 6000 followers each after till now. They're about a year old almost. And then I pin into my page. But do you like to, you know, build off grade systems like build a lot of stuff? The 911 that I'm offering you offering the shack right now. I wound that toe road myself hung it up in my soft fit behind my house. So I'm 26 gauge self-wire and it's been a performer of the house for sure. My nose floor is huge. So we don't know. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right.
Yeah. Cool, man. Well, yeah. You got some really cool posts on here at that balfang. You be 50 or B tech, rather. You be 50 pro. That's been a really popular radio on insta. I've been seeing a lot of. Yeah. You're watching now. That's actually cool. That's actually cool. Video in it. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Mark. Did you showcase before me? So thanks. I'm sure I didn't post anything this weekend. I got like four to five orders. Oh, wow. Nice. So what are you selling then? I'm making these little cables. One's an arc and one's the mark of the antenna relocation cable or the man pack antenna relocation cable. Okay. This is a mark. Mark two. The only difference is a green. Just a PL two. Sorry, a PL two to nine connector. Yeah. So you can plug in your. I'll have a radio right next to my desk. That's fine. For a counterpoint. So when you're running those man pack radios. I'll leave you just on cold 45s video there. The.
You can run it with a whip and it gives you the. Vertical die pole configuration. So you'll see gain. Yep. There it is. Thanks, man. Oh, yeah. That's a little like a start on a radio. And it gives you that vertical die pole configuration. So instead of running. Half antenna shooting a ton of RF. Find your radio and possibly shutting down the radio on them. Yeah. In extreme cases. It'll make you know, get that out of the radio. Pits it on that counterpoint wire. And then I've seen gain on a handheld. Anywhere from. If you're using like a stubby antenna, you'll see like a gain of like 240 be it's insane. Wow. Or it's running a full whip. Three is six. And good. And then you can see that. And then you can see that. You know, it's like a full whip. Three is six. And cults played within enough. You would tell you. Next play with his. He's had one of the first ones. So thanks for being testing those out for me, buddy. I'm broke. Yeah. But yeah. He's the guy. You know, this is hey, if you break this. I'm going to problems with. Customers and he hasn't broken yet.
So it's starting to sell. He's your, he's your break it. Fix it guy. No, just breaks it. Just he just breaks it. I, I picked up a couple of those from signal stuff makes a signal stick and tennis. They make a couple of those. Now they call him signal strands. I think they just gave him a quirky name like that. But they make those little pigtails go on the side of a either a man pack or a like those mounts that you mount on the side of a molly pack on the side of a. Backpack or something. So they work really well. I haven't seen that one. You're talking out. So I'm going to go one or one after after they put a terminal connector right here. Yeah. It takes off nine degrees and that's a snag hazard. Yes. Yes. That's what I like the way you've done that down. That is snag proof. Is that a banana clip there? Yeah, it's a four millimeter banana jack. Yeah, you can lose. You can lose this. I just make a new one. That's what I like the most cheap and available connector out there. But no one's lost one yet that I've been told. Yeah.
Question for the chat. Generally, how heavy. Those man packs. 10 pounds maybe. 30 pounds. It really depends on what you're putting on it. Yeah. He's got a battery on the bottom of that one. So whatever battery is in there. Yeah, that's a battery bug. That's the that's the arm lock. I've got one of those just like that. And it can get heavier with the battery. But you guys have seen my man pack videos and my FTM 6000 that I take out to sites and whatnot. And you'll see it at Huntsville here in a few weeks. So. Yeah, they can they can range. However heavy the. The radio is really. Cool. I get what he's in the mail real quick. Send me what yeah, I was going to go buy one. But if you want to send me one, that's fine. Yeah. I can do it for free. I'm on that big. Sometimes I'll go buy it from you, man. It's not a big deal. I don't sometimes I get free stuff. Sometimes I don't. Somebody asked me the other day is like, Hey, do we have to send you free stuff? And I'm like, I wish people would stop sending me free stuff. I've got so much crap laying around here. It's kind of ridiculous. Or it to me, Jay. I'm going to send you free stuff. I'm going to send you free stuff. I'm going to send you free stuff. And I'm like, I wish people would stop sending me free stuff. I've got so much crap laying around here. It's kind of kind of ridiculous. Or it to me, Jason. I need some more things to put on. I don't know.
I want somebody who's actually going to do something with it. So. Oh, I want to open things. Good work. The only thing we have it done was those XD Commander antennas. That's true. That's true. Yeah. Yeah. HOA ARC is what I'm seeing here right. Yep. There are. Okay. I'm going to start with the ARC mostly for backpacks. The mark for the man packs. Gotcha. Definitely been more popular than the ARC for sure. Gotcha. Okay. I just got a new some guys making man packs on Florida. MPR. Man pack radio. Yeah. I saw that guy on Instagram as well. He just reached out. He's supposed to be posting it tomorrow. So sorry to jump the gun on that one, buddy. But he's decided to make my mark the stock ops in on that radio pack. Sweet. So I'm really stoked about that. Good. Okay. Yeah. I put a post on Instagram the other day about a bunch of BTEC radio. BTEC has been one of the sponsors of my channel for four years, five years, something like that maybe longer than that. So I reached out to them. I'm like, everybody's jump on this man pack bandwagon.
They're like, oh, yeah. They're like, that's great. Everybody's buying our radios to do man packs. I'm like, all right, send me some. So I'm going to do something. The UV 50 Pro. Yeah. I'm going to text 6x2. Yeah. I love that 6x2. Yeah. I'm not. I love them. Did you? ZBM2 at one point. Yeah. He's screwed them to the guys. We got to do wrap out of them. They love. Yeah. Yeah. That's a ham non ham group. But they've all got their radios programmed and ready to go. So the other sweet radio that I will. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. I don't have a 6x2 yet. But I've got their. That's the new one. And it. They offer the seven X to. That's the new one. No, that's the new. Okay. Yeah. I'm not going to do. No band received. Right. Yeah. Which is a ham. I think it's sweet. If they're not a ham, you probably won't care for that extra a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. But for somebody who wants to listen to. Cupid is made with egg yolks only, giving it this incredibly rich umami flavor that elevates everything. Burgers, fries, sandwiches, chicken, noodles, chefs use it, restaurants use it, people who really love food and flavor use it. Whatever you're eating, Cupid hit. This is Ashley Akinetti from the Ben and Ashley I, almost same as podcasts. Ben, I've been reflecting a lot lately on how many big life moments our listeners have experienced with us. Yeah, it's pretty wild. They've watched us go from dating shows to engagements, weddings, babies, buying homes. Every stage comes with new decisions. The milestones are the fun part, but the planning is where things get real. That's why Clarna stands out. The repeater and a simple example for M-com purposes if I'm out in the field right. A lot of my stuff is whether hurricane preparations are going on the coast. Okay. You're in Florida? South Carolina. South Carolina. Okay. Oh, okay. Yeah. Last year, one of the hurricane tracks for a good two days showed entering the Charleston harbor. I, the storm was supposed to go with like two miles of our house. Oh, wow. They went like the other ones last year all the back of the sea. Thank gosh. But anyways, repeaters like a monitor repeater and simplex at the same time.
So we've got a group out here doing stuff. They need something to relay to the repeaters around the range. You know, throw up a J-poin tent out, throw up a jungle antenna, whatever. They make that work out the radio. Would be nice to have that set next to dual band true dual band monitoring. But otherwise it's a little extra feature, but their rates are off my level. Do you guys speaking of that? And this is a question for everybody here. Do you guys, I know a lot of you guys are using that jungle antenna and I picked one of those up at handcation and it's somewhere inside. I need to actually get out get it out and use it, make a video with it. Have any of you ever used the Ed Fong roll up J-poin tent? Well, yeah. Okay. You guys have there you got. Yeah, yeah. Okay. So there's an N90 AX. That one, N90 AX. And that guy was at handvention this year for I think the first time I've seen him there. He's a good dude, Tim or Tom or whatever his name is. And then Ed Fong, I sell the Ed Fong antennas. I've been a vendor of Ed Fong for three or four years. It's some of the most popular stuff on my website. If you guys want the six of you, the five of you, well, Frank, you already have one I think,
the five of you. If you guys want six with the two mics, right? Okay. So I'm counting square. If you guys want an Ed Fong roll up J-poin, let me know. I'll send you one. I can make some of it for years. Yes. I had one of those paper metal clips. I just ended through the end. And I clipped it to a piece of wood on my balcony and left it there. I would be interested to see a performance comparison done. Now, the the the jungle antenna I have, it collapses down to like really skinny like this, but it's about yay long. About, you know, I don't know if you can see me in the camera right now. It's about a foot, let me be a foot. Let me be 10 inches long, something like that. So you got to have a pack to keep it in. But my Ed Fong, J-poin, rolls up to about yay big. So it's a little bit more compact than the then the jungle antenna I have. But I know there's a couple of different brands of jungle antennas out there as well. So so different applications, different here. And I'd like to see I suspect that the jungle antenna will hear better.
But I don't know. It'd be a cool comparison just to kind of see which one works better. It's a cool one. I'll make you a video now. Yeah, I got him coasting cut per frequency like you know one for two meters, one for 40 meters. Okay, 220 GMRS. Yeah, yeah, Ed Fong has he has a he has two versions. He has a dual band ham version, which will go, well, it covers all of two meters and it goes from 440 to 450. And then he has a dual band. What he calls a commercial version that'll cover 150 to 160. So it'll cover mirrors. And it'll cover 460 to 470. So it covered GMRS and FRS and all that kind of stuff too. So two different, you know, you can you can get them both courses, two different antennas, but it's dual band per antenna. So that's that's kind of cool. Anyway, you all want one. Let me know I'd be happy to send you one. So cold. Let's get drew. Thank you very much, man. That was very informative. And I shared the website link in the chat there. So you guys go check that out. All right. I better start making it. Yeah, yeah.
Can I give another plus one for the the the the mark? I have one on my man pack here and my testament to the gain is that I keyed down in this lantern that has been in the back of my truck for like, I don't know, six years. Yeah, it blew out the LED. What did you wear one? Oh, wow. Huh? You've slid into my DMs and you slid into my DMs and sold it to me. You basically, huh? You're like, you're like, Hey, that's a cool man pack. You know, you need for it and then you sent me a link to it. I bought it. Yes, right. Yes. How you do sales. That's how you do it. Two kids. Yeah. Hey, hey, you know what? He got he got you to buy it. It's not his fault. The fault has passed from him. You because you actually bought it. So I mean, it sells itself. It's a great it's a great product. It looks like a great product. Yeah, good. I'm going to I'm going to order one here tonight. All right, let's go to quote 45 now. There's a guy in our chat.
That is 45 auto. And he's been in our chats for a long time. He's a good subscriber, good, good contributor to the to the thing. But you're 40 cold 45 megahertz. Not not the not not the ghetto, not the ghetto. Multicor drink cold 45. Oh, that's that was terrible. We're drinking. Oh, yeah, it was. Yeah, it was terrible. But 45 megahertz. What's that about to explain that real quick? A first of all, 45 auto. If you find me on Instagram, you shoot me a DM. I'll shoot you a patch. I'll go for that. Yeah, it's how we're going to handle that. He's right there. 45 megahertz. Most people when they think of ham radio, they think communications are thinking the handbands. Yeah, most of my life has not been the handbands or stuff. You could probably monitor, but you can't really set stuff super low frequency communications. So 45 megahertz is a mainstay in sack home and in super low frequency. Yeah, real doomsday stuff. Stuff once nuclear bombs go off the stratosphere, you're still going to be able to bounce through. So that's VHF low band though, right?
That is correct. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. All right. That's that big. That's a big long wire hanging out the right watch. Right. Yes. You can get the new nuclear triad. But yeah. So really, I've been, I guess, what was it? When I was in college, I ran satrooks. And then from there, I got my ham ticket. And then I worked for the government as a contractor, DOE, DOS. I had a bunch of stuff. Do you know, but anyways, did that in a continuity of communications programs for them. So I did four years overseas as a contractor doing secure uplink download, downlinked homes. And there are a bunch of satellites that exist that you don't know about. Fleetcom is kind of an easy one. That's the one we can kind of talk about, not getting trouble for. At the amount of stuff that's just sitting up there that you can bounce a signal off of all day long. There are geosync orbit. A lot of times with like satellite stuff, you don't really think about it. Like the ISS, you got to track it. Like the, do you have a bunch of like Russian birds that are just sitting over the United States?
You could probably bounce a, you can bounce APRS on all day long. So I made a post about one of those and it kind of blew up. And so when you say bounce, you just mean you're using the satellite to reflect the signal or you're not actually triggering anything to repeat back to you. Like we do an amateur satellite. It would be illegal to transmit. Just keep that in mind. But like just before Fleetcom 7, the band plan is, yeah, there's a, don't do that. Like Fleetcom 7 Fleet, SATCOM 7, there's 57 or 54 bands that are frequency payers that work. As long as a bird is a geosync, it doesn't move more than 100 miles. If you want to say talk to George and Idaho, you could hear clear as day. It's better than any hammer Peter that you'd ever use. And you're only got to use one to Watts. Currently the Brazilians use it to trash talk each other like CV radios. It's pretty great. The normally trash talking to Portuguese.
So, but yeah, there's, there's things that exist that people don't know about. So I average probably around three to four million views a week on Instagram and Facebook. I know me, I'm in that Mcom space. Mercenacations, but the real stuff that's going to work like a JS8 call. Like people don't really think they're just going to hang out in the handbands. The crap's going to go down. The handbands aren't going to work. Look at, look at Ukraine. Are they going to try to run crypto? And crypto is going to get you with a crypto with a crack in. I'm going to know we're at within seven foot within probably about a 90 seconds of transmission, right? So there's a lot of things there. That's why like JS8 call, that's why some of the stuff in the tech prep are are the ghost net with S2, they won. But cool stuff there. Like I'm really big into satcom. I'm really big in anti gatekeeping. Like the local handplug here won't let me in because of my Instagram videos. So I was like, what the heck with it? So, why? We just go find another club. Yeah, bump down. Good, good, good. Start your own. That's a good idea.
But yeah, so that's what I do. Bigger than impact. Big into just stuff that we just overlook. And I think a lot of people are starting to become alive. The fact that things aren't going well in the world. They're not calming down and we need a plan. And I try to unpack that in the easiest format possible. Good. I have to go ahead. No, go ahead Frank. I'm sorry. I had a question before you came on. You were playing with a old camera. Oh, yeah. What was that? What was that camera? Yeah. It's just a polar way. I think, I mean, what's the plan if you get an EMP blast, the stratosphere, nothing's going to work, right? You got to be able to, I don't know, you know what I mean? Like I think Bo Danker and Tennis and things about think, I think if people actually knew what could happen in a moment's notice, I think a lot of people would be a little bit more terrified and a little bit more taken to seriously. Analog is the key. Digital can go away. Look at this.
Now, nobody can hear you guys right now because I'm on my self-view. Here, but no, I got to turn around the other way. Note that that is right there. That's a two radio. No transistors and suppose, yes, it works great. Yeah. Yeah, I had a guy look at it works absolutely great. And I've got a 600 watt amplifier in the floor for it right there. But supposedly those are EMP proof if such a thing actually exists. It's not going to fry as quickly as a transistor radio. So it also weighs about 900 pounds. So you're not going to carry it around much. But yeah, yeah, analog. Yeah, that's great, man. That's very cool. So what's a cool? What do you have a website where you actually sell stuff like Drew does? Are anything? No, no, it's like I have some government contract stuff. So I can't really sell anything. Okay. I'm partnered up with ATAC, doing some real cool stuff with them coming on board here. Do a do stuff with Motorola and some of the product development for ATAC.
Okay. And I still contract. So I don't hustle anything, but there are some great people's the H.O.A. thing that it works. It really does. There's some other cool friends that are active military that are pushing man packs. They're great. I don't know. Man, it's a small community, especially in the Instagram side. Who knew? And ever I'm just one of the one person is not trying to hustle you anything. I'm, hey, here's some really, I bought a lot of crappy radios. And I think we've all been there, right? We bought them all half this crap. I mean, half this crap sucks. There's a couple of good items out there that is really good. The BTEC stuff. Amazing. And the BTEC stuff is great. Absolutely. Yeah. I'm obviously going to remember number one, two, three, seven. Pull again. Yeah. When are you going to open? I heard it's North Texas. Yeah. Yeah. Right now we're running it over POC link. So, okay. No, and all seriousness now, the only linked repeater system I ever plan to set up is on all star because all stars are much, much, much, much better system than a bunch of Yahoo's who link all eight GMRS repeaters together, all GMRS channels together and over a two or three state area. So yeah, that's that is a joke these guys made about me. And that's fine. It's fine. It's all in good fun. But yeah, but no, Link, I think GMRS should have linked repeaters. And I think they should limit it to one one channel channel 22 link all your peters on channel 22 and let everything else alone because you have a limited number of channels. But you know, that's a story for another day. So I mean, a GMRS is a gateway to hand.
Let's not. It is. No. And you know, I was I was I was talking to one of my local ham clubs here, but I got a lot of really, really excellent ham clubs in this area. I know the curmudgeon ham clubs exist. I know they do because so many people have told me about them, but they don't exist in this area. I got a lot of really excellent welcoming ham clubs in this area. And I was on a Zoom call with one of them a couple weeks ago, trying to talk him in to put up a mesh core repeater on one of their towers. And I'm like, look, GMRS is a gateway. Absolutely. So is the mesh core and mesh task degree. These guys, they don't understand some of them, some of them don't understand EIRP. They don't understand antenna gain. They think, oh, I'm going to put up a one watt radio in this little stubby antenna. Well, okay, but you're do better with the smaller radio in a high gain antenna. Or you get it up. I need to get I need one watt because I'm getting out high enough. I'm like, where's your repeater on on my garage and my garage? I'm like, put it on top of your house, dude. So there's a there's a thriving community out there for for that as well. So yeah, I absolutely the GMRS crowd is is in there.
And I know a lot of guys who have GMRS licenses that started there and came over to ham. So and if you want to stay in GMRS, I don't have a huge problem with that. Um, but you know, I like talking on GMRS. It's a useful tool, but I don't like it when people say that it's taking over Mcom and racies because that's not true. But I made a video about that. Well, what's race is? It's cars going around in circles. Right. Yeah. A lot of times we have a we have a really good racies group here in Terrent County. Oh, I know. I know I know a lot of I know racies is not as prevalent and widespread as it used to be. I know that areas is much more popular these days or just guys setting up, but you know, setting up their own thing for storm watches, whatnot. And that's cool. Uh, there's nothing wrong with any of that. But we have an excellent, uh, we have a really excellent racies group here in Terrent County. So, uh, but yeah, dude, uh, you have, you have a great Instagram channel. I have learned a lot by watching some of your stuff. And I really appreciate you taking the time out to come on today, Colt, because, uh,
uh, this is this is it once again. And, um, yeah, you know, you say you don't hustle anything and that's cool. You know, you got to contract or anything, but here's the thing I found a long time ago is that, um, I would put up a video about something and like half of the people who watched it would say, where do I get that? How would I give me a link? Send me a link. Give me the, so that's kind of why I hustle things these days because everybody's going to have to have a passport anyway. So, the big things coming up, we're going to be doing a tech, uh, I'm going to be working on that over handbands. Um, and a tech for the modern minute man, I guess, yeah, the craft is the fan. Uh, I'm going to be working on that. Um, I'm going to be teaching a little bit more on the set, com side, um, and then what else? Um, but I, you know, I think I saw you hit this UV 50 pros or whatever they're called, um, going to be using that a whole lot. I mean, if people were going to be looking at divine a, a man pack radio, that's, that's not a bad place. I mean, I'm a big eight five, seven guy. Yeah. Uh, but you can't get one. And I've, uh, I was talking to somebody that owned the armor lock the other day.
He's like, we sold all those armor lock cages out. I'm like, I can tell you why. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's your fault. I'm going to talk to people. They blame you for it. Yeah. As a judge, they full price for the armor lock is. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, well, I've been, uh, at EAMs, that's the other one I love the chase. Uh, most of those are the large frequencies. Um, you just got to know where to look for. Um, but most people don't know that kind of stuff exists and you can't decipher it. But it's fun. I've been looking for somebody. I've talked to two or three people and I haven't found anyone yet who's willing to come on to the channel. So maybe I can talk to you about this offline. I want someone to come on to one of these live streams and take us through a tech, kind of like from a beginner's perspective and do, you know, how you build on it. Maybe make a series out of it, something like that. I have used a tech. I don't know what the hell I'm doing. But it's, it's a fantastic tool, uh, that, that plugin for the BTEC UV, UV Pro is awesome. And it makes it really easy to use to share your, I mean, I think it'll work with the UV 50. UV 50 is just a mobile 50 watt version of the UV Pro, the HT.
Yeah. So what I'm doing is so you can actually take, so if you are the go tech plugin with a tech drive, yeah, basically I'm, I'm, I'm sinking by UV. I'm sinking my UV fifth or a UV pro with my A tech device, right? Yes. Technically, if the crap goes down, I'm going to pick my local repeater and I'm going to ping my, my, my, uh, my information over that repeater and transition it. And I'm going to make sure it's in a, in a small data package or whatever else. Yeah. Um, you can take that man pack and how I've got my UV 50 set up is it is a, uh, A tech, um, repeater. So basically I take it to the high ground and I'm going to drop it off at 50 watts. Um, and I'm going to run, you know, they say it's crypto. I believe it is crypto. You're at least hiding that information. Um, and I'm able to basically set up an, um, an A tech repeater. If 50 watts it like, say, pessimism. It's never going to improve a disconnected healthcare system. Next. So what will at Optum, we're working every day to connect primary specialty and pharmacy care and tell flow or prescription costs.

Yeah, I can cover all the way to Knoxville to Atlanta. Yeah. And I mean, we were talking, we're now really talking. Hey, Doug, and you're no yogi. No, you're a yogi, Batman. No, you're a great. We did a 200 mile simplex contact, like nothing on a hand. Five watts. So it's definitely capable. Yo, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I think what people get wrong with ATAC. I mean, we don't, this is a great area, but people think, well, I got to hang out in the handbands. I got to hand out hand bands. No, you've got to find, you've got to have equipment that does not work on the handbands against the crappers there. If you're at the can, you got to know how to use it. You shouldn't use it until it happens, but have practiced the plan. You practice on the handbands. That's great. But then, you know, when it comes down to it, I mean, if going home, if the going home series ever happens, then just put it wherever you want to, wherever
your pace plan is and go from there. So yeah, totally, I'm totally down with that. So cool, man, I appreciate it. I'm going to be in touch about some ATAC stuff. That's, that's great that you do that. I love that. So thanks for being on, Colt. Appreciate it. All right, let's go to Steve. Steve, I found out recently, he just, he just lives right down here in Rockwall, Frank. Right. Yeah. So Steve and I are going to get together and do some mesh, tastic mesh core stuff soon. And I'm trying to get Steve to come to Huntsville in a few weeks. So Steve, what's your, what's your thought on that? So I have some semi bad news. I have to have an emergency risk surgery next week. Oh, yeah, I got, I got to plate my wrist and it's moved up on my wrist, severed a tendon and I can't move my thumb at all. So I can't work. So that might be a new, yeah, I'm probably not going to make it. And I have a two month old baby. So, you know what?
You said that in tech set day and you're like, yeah, I got a newborn, but I'm going to try to go to Huntsville and I'm like, yeah, good luck. I was going to try. And I think I was going to be able to make it happen, but like the thumb thing happened like four or five days ago. It's crazy. But I do want to make a ham fest eventually. I don't know. We'll see. I'm new to this ham thing. I guess probably compared to everybody else. I started. Do you're on Instagram doing CW and I've been a ham for 34 years. I don't know CW. So you're not that new, but I mean, that if you picked it up really quickly, let's be real. I just hunt poda. I'm not a real CW. Hey, man, you're doing more than I am. That's okay. That's all right. Totally. We can't we can't do poda without someone be out there. There you go. So that's me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's the best entry into CW if anyone's wondering is hunting poda. It's a script easy. You can look smart. Well, I guess you make it look good on the videos. That's for sure. I appreciate it. So yeah. Yeah, I guess I could tell you a little bit about myself.
Go ahead. Yeah. Yeah. Please. I, uh, I started ham radio or I started. And GMRS. Okay. You guys want to see my first radio? Do it. Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. Let's see if she works. Malfeng. You. It's a UV something, something. Yeah. Yeah. Amazon, Amazon special. Sure. Um, I got started. I'm sure you know the 600 out here. I got started on the 600. Yeah. Um, great group guys. They got me into radio. And I did a net for them on Thursdays for a while until I got a little busy. Um, most generous, awesome group with a lot of hands on there. I got the bug. I think it, I got this radio to the story is my wife and I, I wanted to talk to my wife on a bike ride. And I thought I'd get a little earpiece and just we could just back and forth. And then I go down the rabbit hole of YouTube. And it was, I saw, you know, the radios with the cool numbers on them.
So I was like, okay, that's interesting. I thought it was like a phone at first. And then of course I figured out everything. But, uh, rabbit hold into that, got a radio, heard, I didn't even know how to program a repeater yet. I heard the chatter on the, on the 600. And I was like, this guy in Richardson is talking to a guy in really city. Blue my mind, you know, and eventually got it all programmed and all that. And I met the guys. Those guys got me into him radio. So I have a soft spot, soft spot in my heart for GMRS. Sure. A lot of good guys. Um, it's, I guess people call it the CB whatever, but it's more technical than that. I think we know. But it's like, it's like the fun band. It's like, right? Yeah. It's, that's fun. I got into him radio via CB. There was no such thing as GMRS back in the 90s. I got into him radio via CB. Yeah, yeah. A CB friend told me about him radio. That's exactly how I got started. There's nothing wrong with that at all. Yeah, absolutely. Go ahead. Yeah. And like my entry into HF was I had a single side band CB.
And I contacted my first contact was a guy in Canada. I couldn't believe it. And, um, so I thought it was fake. I was like, this is no, and then I of course I learned about skipping all that. And then I got my sharing. I was like, I'm not doing Frank. No, it was a bad copy of paste. Obviously it was a bad copy of paste. Try deleting that. Yeah. But if anybody joins my zoom, I'm not, I'm not, yeah. I'm not, I'm not, uh, I don't, is that even my zoom? No, it's not. It's my, oh, it's your zoom. Because I'm doing emails. And I'm just like, ah. This is what it's like to have Frank as a co-host. Please, please. I can't get a speech into my story. Yeah. Oh, yes. I am talking about GMRS and how you got you in a handbag. I'm going to get on the repeaters. He's background 600 and he's co-hosting. He's co-hosting. He's doing right. He just didn't have the right thing. I know it. I can multitask. I can multitask. I just need to get into the right way to delete stuff. How much do you have to drink so far? Two fingers. Oh, okay.
That's not that much. Oh, boy. Okay. Go ahead, Steve. I'm just touching back to me, please. Yeah. Right. Yeah. So I learned that way. Um, where was I? CB into the hammer. Then I took my general. I'm not general. I took my tech. And then I figured out tech doesn't really get you much. I had a, I got a G90 and I was doing 10 meter when 2 meter was hot, like a year and a half ago. Sure. So I mean, it was awesome. And then, um, once the band started, then once I was like, okay, there's different bands and stuff. I then hopped the general probably like six months later. And then I, I started a YouTube channel probably for every hobby that I've had. So that doesn't sound familiar at all. Yeah. I have a, I have a e-biking channel. I do ceramics for a living. So I do have a pottery channel. I self-dinnerware. So I, you know, I had that. I did this, this, that. So I was like, I don't, I kept on getting pigeonholed into into channels.
And I would burn out. So I created a hobby, Steve. So if I want to go fly drones, I go fly drones. Yeah. If I want to go do XYZ, I go do XYZ, which has been fun. So, but it's mostly ham radio. I, uh, I guess I guess I say I semi copied K8 MRDs, random antennas. Um, so, you know, I, I'm not the, he's not the first person to do it. I'm not the, you know, first person. Sure. But I started, you know, to talk to Mike at all, happy. Not, not personally. Small dig, small dig, but continue. Let's go. I don't know. I gotta say nothing. He, I learned a lot from that guy when I, especially when I'm, he has, he has some really good videos. There's no question. Yeah. Frank and I like to tease him because we know him. But yeah, he's just another mic in him radio. Go ahead. There you go. Yeah. Hi, Mike. Um, so I, uh, I copied his idea, started making videos and, uh, got a G90. And I, I really like tuning random antennas, but half time is the pain of the butt. That's why he doesn't work out the time. But those videos went viral, like, seven in a row.
So that's kind of how the channel ramped. Um, my first videos were CB, skip, and then I started doing, uh, just some, little HF context on the G90. Then I started hookin' stuff up. And then it snowballed into a bunch of free gear. Like you were talkin' about. Yeah. Which I mean, I tried not to take gear from stuff I didn't want. So that's one thing. I don't, I'm not a shield. Yeah. But I will take a free piece of equipment if it's something I want anyways and sometimes I reach out to people and I say hey I'm looking to do a series on this I'll make a video whatever blah blah blah big time on mesh task take right now. Yes, and the Anyways getting off to have so started there I'm gonna make a random antenna antenna was only on YouTube and tick tack for a while and then I had a fake I had a guy make a fake profile on Facebook and he had 10,000 followers Hey, look just like my YouTube really so yeah, and so I went through the whole thing with Meta Got him removed like after a month then I started Instagram and Facebook and now Facebook is my biggest platform
It's like I look a little over 105 right now And it is like that's like three months like so that blew my mind So that was my first page at 100 and so that's been great I'm just trying to keep my foot on the gas really I don't want to be the random antenna guy Saltly I do it. I I post like maybe one a month, but everybody kind of knows me from that But I try to hope my hope you're not here in the neighbors lawn mower, but the Yeah, so I started random antenna blah blah blah now I really like this mesh core stuff that I'm gonna be trying to start with some guys in town We got I got five nodes being sent to me and they're mostly solar and I'm gonna be setting up something rock wall. I hope to reach you maybe over there. That would be yeah That would be cool. I mean having the mesh core reach across the Metaplex is obviously the goal and with the UHF Ducking we've had I've for the last two or three mornings I've woken up and found messages on my device I have a repeater on the house that I just put a video up about I have messages from Texarkana from Louisiana from Houston
from Yeah, and it's there's it's the way ducting works. It's it's skipping over every it's not hitting every repeater between you and me It's kind of skipping over some stuff, but I mean yeah having a constant connection across DFW is Absolutely what we should do. I guess cold. Yeah, it needs to happen. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, absolutely needs to happen So yeah, I'm totally down with that. Yeah I'll use a mesh tastic. They've got a link system for like 15 to 20 miles. They're using it for MCOM stuff Yeah, we get it up right you can 100% use it up. Oh, yeah, totally. Yeah, that's true In like over in California, they got six system over there. That's reaching hundreds of miles, right? So I mean It's a runner-aid right there. It works for them. Yeah, you know, we're in Dallas. We just need the skyscrapers But yeah, so we'll see 150 miles here in Idaho. So we have a free shot out frequency 51 the inner mountain mesh, but we actually We go from Boise, which is the southwest corner of Idaho all the way By the end of summer we should actually be linked to Salt Lake City. So we cross the nice
It's like a five and a half hour drive. Yeah, that's great. Yeah, I said that's good for the community too I mean, that's yes, I mean that's plastic or mesh core It's both actually so we're a dual system. So we run both of them And then the big project this year has been one of the one of the main guys out of the magic valley Which is about two and a half hours east of us he he has it so aren't also our system is all offline like there's no internet MQTT It's almost it's almost impossible to do it's not impossible, but it's very there's a lot more steps to do MQTT on mesh core Mesh core is more made for offline than mesh. Tastic is in my opinion, but yeah, okay. Go ahead. I'm sorry. Go ahead Oh, no, you're good and then so so one of the one of the main guys out of the magic valley Malice he that's his handle on all mesh corn stuff But he built an offline He built an offline Large language model that is like just pumped with all the survival knowledge medical knowledge and stuff like that It's accessible through a channel that we share That's also plugged into a lot of the alert the female alert systems and stuff that we have out there
So we have another channel that's just for like off-grid survival. You can ask like hey, can I you know? What direction do I need to go to go here and get this so I'm jealous. It's really cool. Yeah, it's really sick Do you guys have it so Dave's piping up in the chat? Do you guys any of you guys in the zoom right now? Do you guys have a contact for seed studios gear? I do Anybody else does anyone does anyone does not have a contact for seed studios gear? You gotta say it correctly Jason I Probably have 14 or 20 mesh tastic mesh core peers. So we have a system linked leaking Atlanta all the way to Knoxville First we did mesh tastic then we went to mesh core. I think KM4 ACK is talked about that system pessimism it's never going to improve a disconnected health care system next so what will At Optum we're working every day to connect primary specialty and pharmacy care and tell flow or prescription costs

Clown of balance account required to be eligible for cashback points limitations terms to conditions apply Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's picking back on the TVA Merit or a continent government systems, but basically I don't know how it originally started Okay, but TVA piggybacks on it for some of their mercy to be calm stuff But it's a north Georgia where we're at we can we can get some range and and quite a hurry That will tell you mesh tastic for a tech is not your friend mesh core for a tech is a winning combination Okay, so I don't want to get into a deep dive on this right now because it's not what this video is about however mesh tastic has a tech It's more compatible with a tech than mesh core from what I'm told So is that changing as mesh core starting to adapt to where a tech stuff or how is how does that work? Yeah, I've been using a plug-in last couple weeks. It's just it's just highly more effective I mean yet, it mesh core mesh tastic will work if you're trying to go from like Point to point or simple. Yeah, but if I'm trying to run like I don't know a regional offer a multi-county op
And trying to move that information around I just can't count on it working. That's yeah. Yeah. No, that's good Yeah, low mesh a stavros from low mesh is also in the chat right now So I will send you guys contact information for Dave KB5 UTY He's down in San Antonio just a few hours south of me He's one he's a suit seed studios representative here in the USA not only that, but he's in Texas. They're doing voice over mesh right now So yeah, he's got some kick-ass stuff and he sent me some of his devices and he I've got a couple of his devices already digital rancher youtube channel called digital rancher. He's got a couple of really good uh Low mesh videos on his channel right now. So I will send in our group group chat that we have on instagram I'll send you guys that info after this, but I'm sorry Steve. We interviewed. Yeah. Why why are we taking over my spot?
Yeah, I was gonna make an off-handed comment on that but we're on youtube. So Yeah We're on my channel. We're on my if we were on your channel. We talked about that all day long cold. I don't care It's my yeah, it's my left hand guys I'll tell you're still doing more scone Oh, yeah I have a buddy literally just you just honoured him. He was at San T State Park K48 Jeff you hit him up on CW Okay, I was mentioning to Rich and I was like how did you make that work if your wrist is broke? Yeah, I Shattered my wrist longboarding. I've been longboarding for like 14 years And I was like five years ago and I was on a garage in downtown Dallas and shattered it I barely fell it just like went under my butt and then like snapped my or shattered right here and like right is horrible What's that? That's obviously guys get old. Yeah, right? But I drink so much milk though. I don't know but It's a It's shattered. You are so jade screws. You know, it's just it's just jacked up now it's severed attendance
So I gotta go in there and fix that. But yeah, that's a story. I mean it's not really that cool. Where does the wrong board? Yeah, right. Yeah, but anyways that that's another hobby. But the um Yeah, so where was I? Oh, yeah, I've been doing meshtastic videos. No don't go off everyone Meshtastic, but um, I do like that that stuff So I'm trying to be diverse. I'm not trying to be the random and ting I only and I don't want to hook random And it's up for us my life because it's a pain in the butt So I just got an FT 17. I love that thing. Oh great. I use my youtube paycheck to get that and then so it's just like oh And I think the other one of the main raises I started this channel was my wife when I started hand radio She's like these radios are kind of expensive and I said I'm gonna start a channel Why sound just like Josh Yeah, well, I gotta make some money for all these hobbies that I've got you know Everyone wants to say they every whenever whenever like a youtuber someone says I get free stuff It's not free. We work for it. So yes, yeah, no, so like I try to put out decent videos and all that so yeah
You know, I'm not they don't just give out stuff like that and yeah, if you want free stuff go make your own channel And so I you know, I I like to review stuff. I Don't like to get overloaded with reviews. I like it to be more genuine But like I've got some spec five stuff that just got sent to me. I like it I got um, I could list off like I got the DX launcher stuff super cool. Yeah, yeah, I just got I got did you did you get the cannon? Yeah, yeah, where'd you get the yeah? No, he sent me to three of those tennis balls. He calls them. Yeah, do DX DX bombs or whatever he calls Yeah, you're gonna love that thing. Yeah, it's pretty slick. They're cool people and Yeah, they're very nice and then um, yeah, so I got a Man, I got so much like like you I got so much stuff in my my shack right now. It's just kind of ridiculous And don't come in the comments saying that you'll take it because I'm not giving it to you But the you know It's just it's just like a fun you know outlet for me that's turned into like a semi-part time job
So I hope to be full-time in it one day to be honest with you And we'll see what happens with that. That's kind of like why the channel started was just for fun And then it turned into like something semi-serious and I I went to school for video work So it just kind of all works together for me. So I like I do enjoy making short content And all that I like editing I'm semi-quick at it and I Your edits on Instagram your edits on your reels are fantastic I text to see the other day and I'm like who does your editing? He's like I do. I'm like crap Are you for hire because I just don't like editing. I just don't care for it Some people are really really good at it and they enjoy it. I'm not I'm not I'm not one of those guys who who is good at it or enjoys it So I just I think I think way through with a good short I know I can go into the Short strategy for an hour. So I won't do that. Yeah, but but It's really just comes down to like practice and I look a luckily like all my other channels started it during the tick-tock
craze yeah, so like shorts is just how my brain works. Yeah. Yeah, no no make sense. I'll be honest I might send you a couple things. I see a hand. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, cool. Go ahead. What do you got? I just I just have a question. This is the outfit in the room Is Mike and Mike a couple are they just friends I think they hold the cans right there You guys are so people that would fit into the group that we hang with. It's just not even funny. Yeah Not to each other to each other That's an answer question there Yeah, this is really just really awkward. I'm so sorry Okay, we need to go to Nick because Nick's been sitting down there quiet the whole show is that Steve that's great dude Yeah, yeah, we're gonna do some stuff together. I'm sorry. You're not gonna make a huntsfield probably but um We'll figure something out. We'll figure something out. Yeah, cuz rock wall is 30 minutes man. It's not that's a total them
That's nothing in Texas time to us a guard night. Yeah, I'll join you. Okay. Okay We can we should find a place in um We should try to find a place in like Dallas or something frank That we can do. No, Dallas that well. I don't know. There's one in a roulette and I did not like it. So Well, let's look around. There's a cool one in no clip Actually, isn't there one in the rock well itself and kind of in the shopping-ish area. Yeah It's nice. I've been in there Once and the guys around there seemed kind of clicky and if you didn't know anyone they didn't talk to you So we don't know what I need to know anyone. I was gonna say I don't go to cigar shop to be social I go to smoke a cigar. I do yeah, yeah, it's really cool to run one in here. Yeah, tour On it's for Nick. Hey Nick, we think about your tour Yeah, let's let Nick talk Everybody hear me. Yeah, yeah, you're good man. Yeah, you're good. So where are my stories start off?
So I was active dude Marine Corps for a while and then I ended up working for company doing phase four of green braze special forces training called Robin sage Okay, so the premise of Robin sage is that the students come in and then they're gonna teach you skill set as a resistance force partner And teach you how to do a specific job such as a weapon sergeant medical sergeant whatever Well, it came to the time. I've been around class Enough classes that they were like all right. You've got to be the radio guy this class week And I was like, I don't I don't care about radios nobody cares about radios Military nobody cares about radios. They never work everybody hits the Z-Bun So did a class with that and Right up until right up until they do Yeah, right Right Learned a lot from that and ended up working on my technician right after that in February of 2023 Got my
Technician and then went out to another class and we're getting ready to expand our Gorilla force quote-unquote Communications network so that we could actually be a little bit better than our American counterparts Um Shortly after that We had hurricane holine come through on ashville Okay, so me and a couple guys we loaded up our vehicles We took supplies out to the ashville area burnsville specifically are you in North Carolina? Yeah, so I'm okay. I'm Like just south of Camp Luzon North Carolina. Okay So we took five hour drive over to burnsville area I had a couple motor roller radios with me and a mag mount antenna. Yeah, that's how we were running our comms for three different vehicles In an area that was absolutely devastated Crazy it was absolutely crazy what I saw there also met um, I wish I knew this band's name
He was a ham down there. He said he had been portable for five days down there at the time Living around he was in a tent living alongside the street just getting messages in and out Must I do and a win link type stuff? Not yet people out and I was like okay, well, this is definitely where I need to pick up and go get my general so shortly after that um about two months it took me study up to get my general test And me and my buddy Twain were like hey, let's go do a poda rove brand new poda rove never done it Didn't know what was about just we're gonna drive up to some parks and start in this radio stuff up And I hit uh drew up I was like hey, you're in the Charles scenario. We're gonna be in the Charles scenario. Why don't we link up and No, maybe you can teach me something. I can teach you something That's one of my first videos that really exploded on instagram was of uh, I was like Hoda with friends is all I said on it. Yeah, it was gonna set up on ft8
um Yeah, you guys were trying to voice and it was Horrible bank conditions. They were oh, I cannot uh, S&P. I was like 100 Rilo. Yeah, I was it the KP was that like a four. Oh, yeah conditions were trash You guys were trying to run like voice with what you guys have like 20 watch in the G9 years on Yeah, we're using G90s on hardwares And I was like hey, here's my radio. What's what I said to 15 watts? Yeah, but I activated If we go into WSTX we can change the call sign you guys to activate And that was the first time I read you had ever seen more than a you know 10 15 contacts in a row wow because all three of you or three of us activated with that That's the first time I met you at all. I love it. I love ft8. I the people people dog on it. I love it I love voice too, but I love ft8. GSA call will make ft8 look like trash any day Not in pota not in pota not in pota Ft8 is much much better in pota if you're
Every time I get on jsa call I send out a ping or whatever it's called and no one ever comes back to me Now I'd like to change that and vora ac is something I've never done, but I want to do so jsa calls it fantastic That's that's what I've been on lately for ac. Yeah, it's good too But if you're gonna do pota ft8's where it's at if you're gonna do a digital mode on pota ft8 is where it's at Go ahead guys. Parted started going real good with that made a couple videos here and there and then The recent December I think the ISS was doing a whole bunch of ss tv stuff and at the time I had a cheap amazon yogi antenna three element UHF only um, and I mounted a cell phone onto the boom of the To the yogi and posted a video a me just downloading this picture and that thing it's now over a million views Wow, what what is this?
Um, and that's kind of where I got started at. I mean, I'm not the most as you can see I'm you know I'm a shoot move and communicate type guy You know, I'm running all time shooting all the time We're doing all kinds of stuff. Um, that's a super great video you're showing there. Yeah You uh, you said you're in the Marines. Yes, sir. Okay. Well sir So first of all, thank you for your service. Okay, second of all my father is a Marine Corps reserve So yeah, I'm a little bit familiar with I never served myself, but my father is Marine Corps reserve. So yeah Good deal. So I'm definitely a tinfoil hat slash Prepper guy slash radio guy and you know, I guess I kind of recently rebranded into the shoot move communicate as a whole thing That's my video on your channel. Look at that. It's awesome That's right. I did. Yeah, you're right That's the alpha internet field day Frank. Oh really? Yeah, that's your outfit that you're intended to do. Yeah. He reposted my video
So um something like cult said earlier is you know, everybody thinks that SSB bands are gonna be wide open when when the balloon goes up or whatever Yeah, in my opinion if you want to see what the bands are gonna be like go any Field day and see what the bands are like and try to find a spot where you can talk It's not gonna happen. Yeah. Yeah, that's that's a good point. I mean look at you crane They're jamming the whole the whole handband everyone's radio does not work You got to you're not in six meters if you're not I don't know Hang out somewhere. I mean 220. We don't talk about those things 220 and 220 and 900 They're fantastic handbands, but nobody uses them 900 a little It is yeah, yeah, I mean every band has its place, right? But yeah, yeah, two two two 220 is the VHF band that everyone forgot So it's got the it's got the VHF capabilities of two meters But it's the noise floors lower and it's it's farther reaching because of that
So yeah, it's right at the very top of the VHF spectrum Then recently I've been playing a lot on six meter. That's been my big thing Six meters is is is fun six meters can be really fun Yeah, good That's where I'm in I'm I'm sure I'm sweet to the point How how long have you been a ham? pessimism It's never going to improve a disconnected healthcare system next so what will At Optum we're working every day to connect primary specialty and pharmacy care and Telltler prescription costs Will we fix it all overnight? And so not I'm the new guy and I'm mostly The beta for all the Drew's new stuff Like I said, I mean talking about this mark a lot But I've had one of the very first ones I think and I still haven't broke it yet Um, so what has been your favorite ham project? I mean anybody anybody Nick Thank you. So he said he didn't have much. I'm yeah throwing some bones. So yeah Well, I've been on the man pack kick just like everybody else. Yeah, I've been using that it's RT 95 Great radio just got one for free Drew talked me in to finding a stealer deal on a 857 D Oh, most people what I paid for it. They would shoot me What I do I'm gonna say you pay for it. But real. It's real talk Oh, yeah, that's about that's about what I paid that's about what I paid for mine How's the screen? Is it screen good? Yeah, it's 100% mine is yeah
Uh, Drew just saying it. He loves it. He says I'm a great I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna throw something out that is gonna be a controversial statement Which I've never done that before in my life Yeah The 706 the icy 706 or the icy 7000 is a better radio than the 87 Oh, please, I'll take that that's easy and I've got I've got all three of those radios I've got the 706 7000 and the 857 and an 897 which is big and bulky 7000 or the 7000 icy 7000 Probably hands down one of the greatest the greatest radio yes absolute like 7000 is a fantastic little do you can like do image like straight to the screen on the radio yes like it does crazy stuff and it's VHF you it's I don't think it has an internal dinner. It's an 8 fit. No, it does not it's an 857 with the screen you can actually see Yeah, after your 40 years old. So I mean, you know, and it's it's you know
I'm a great radio. I love my 857, but the 7000 so much better radio in my But the thing that people are looking for is that small mobile package But all banned they're all about the same size. That's the thing. They're all about the same They're all about the size of an FTA 91 my second thing is people ask me a time. I can't find me 570 What do I do? And I told him getting a 91 oh well? How much do you want me to be honest with you? Ask me how many times I've used my 857 in the field on two meters or 77 right right? There you go. It's yeah, how many yeah Once it was once is it and I did the film I simply don't have I don't remember it is if Jeff in the field and then I want to carry a handheld because I want to be more right correct The two areas apart. Yeah, something separate. Yeah, but I will say 50 watts and on a two meters with the jungle antenna you can do a lot of damage. Oh, yeah Yeah, yes, yes, yes, I'm like Helene. You know, I'm Helene was it's a perfect
example of everything going wrong in a hurry Faciliant amount of environment. Yeah, I mean the case studies for that is find something that works I mean here's the other thing repeaters only had maybe three to seven days of battery back or power If the power goes out we might even just go out. Yeah, that's what we've seen from Helene. That's what we see everywhere else repeaters aren't gonna stay up in the state of Georgia. There are three solar repeaters period And that's it well there was a there's that mountaintop repeater that was And I interviewed the gentleman that was the net control for that Mount Mitchell mount Mitchell the mount Mitchell were so the mount Mitchell repeater covered the devastated area But it was outside of the does devastated area so it never lost power at all And they were active on that repeater through the whole time now Yes, you're not gonna have that happen every situation is different right sometimes you're gonna have an affected area where a Peter is sometimes you're gonna have a tall repeater that reaches that area and that's what happened with Helene But I mean yeah, you're right. You're right if they don't have a robust two three, but I mean Puerto Rico parts of Puerto Rico without power for eight months
After the hurricane happened down there a few years ago So you know, you're not gonna have a repeater system that lasts that long on battery and solar power Generally speaking but and from my understanding they were actually guys Taken fuel up to the generator up there on mount Mitchell to refuel it so they can keep it going the whole time My understanding was that mount Mitchell was outside of the affected area completely so they didn't I don't maybe I'm wrong about maybe I'm misremembering that I don't remember but either way I just know they reopened the state park not that long ago. Yes Yeah, yeah, we were we actually had a trip plan to uh smokey mountains um that year And we diverted our plans because it's like half of it shut down right now so um Yeah, no, no, yeah, you're you're you're correct about that, but yeah, some people are okay to let so I I I I caused some turnwale in the chat What did you do this time? I said the seven thousandths of better radio which I'm correct about by the way But you know, I'm impacted as hf and no no so so let me let me let me let me clarify what I'm saying you're talking about it
I think Drew I think you said something about the eight ninety one The eight ninety one is a much better hf radio than the a 57 or the 7000 if you're wanting something that's that's totally um How many watts is the a 57 on two meters in 440? I don't remember 15 and what is it 25 on 30? Okay, the 30 the 7000 is 50 and 35 on gns Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, if you open it up 50 50 on two meters and 35 watts on on 70 centimeters. So yeah, so you're not talking about 100 watts anyway, but I'm like and two meters sideband is is a fun thing to do where there is anyone gonna use it during an disaster emergency I don't know maybe maybe not is for hobby use yeah, right? Yeah, it basically is but I just Some it's on the air trip plan and we're gonna go up. We're gonna try to use a yogi and do single sideband Speak you could totally do that you could totally do that the weekend of September 19th or something like that
Okay, if you're around Know what you're on a Tennessee those states doing a favor look out for us. We'll be up there two meters single sideband My buddy Charlie red summit rf um Is in Arizona and he takes his 1.2 gigahertz FM HT And climbs up to a soda summit and he does four to six contacts on 1.2 gigahertz FM with the coverage from there is You insane. I know it is. It's it's incomplete. I need them to install a mountain range right through the center of north Texas And then I can You guys on the east coast I would love to come out there. It's just such a far drive for me gosh Oh, yes, the blessing of the Appalachia Mountains is also the curse about the Abelish Mountains right the foothills It's so wide And VHF UHF is it's atrocious. It's so bad those areas. They can rely on it Uh, unless you're using a repeater up on a mountain like Mount Mitchell So you can flex and use that terrain to your advantage
But the downside is point-to-point communications on a handheld are almost impossible So they've got to give and take on that I'm out here in Charleston. They call it the low country for a reason I'm not kidding We've drive four hours to get to the near summit of which the terrain only changes about 10 to 12 feet the whole time Yeah, so we want the HF UHF out of nowhere But you have nothing long range like you now from the top of the mountain look the back of my neighborhood the elevations negative two So yeah, there's 12 feet of elevation within 12 feet of me. Yeah, that's true 12 feet Well, that's why HF invis is such a big deal like 10 meters go through for antenna I mean, we have a local 10 meter group here, man It's just like hey the repeater goes down we're all gonna go to 10 meter Invis and we got a 60 mile radius. I mean just It's a lot of these things works. That works great. Yeah, I'm actually impressed by that. I would not have guessed that
Really good where you're at. I know for sure I know for sure 10 meter invis will work great because I told you guys I started in CB radio We used to talk all over the Dallas Fort Worth Metriplex on CB and I'm not talking about running Some of us ran amplifiers. I did I ran it, but I could turn my amplifiers off and I could talk 35 40 45 miles across the Metriplex on one of the not on channel 19 But one of the off channels or something like that so I know it works and and I was like 10 meters is right next to 11 meters It's right. It's all the kind of the same the top of this of the HF band So you could totally do a 10 meter invis contact and cover your Your Metriplex or your your county or your couple a couple two or three counties that are together you could totally do that That's making about for this. I'm a huge book reader Uh, I got to know all the fear about everything Because of that. They'll tell you that those higher frequencies you're pushing you know That up there 10 meters is uh
Oh, she what frequencies 10 meters at 28 28 Uh, you start getting that high up there and they say oh, it's gonna push through the troubles here And then it's not going to bounce as well as something on like seven meters Sorry seven megahertz 40 meters 80 meters So I bring it up and I ask that question because I know people watching probably like I've never thought of using 10 meters End this I haven't It's all about the antenna. Yeah, you have to go you have to go vertical with it. You got to go to vertical The tim you have to I use a ladder line. I call it the Larry special one of the local ham guys Thanks to that ladder line. I go to tree. I'll top of my house. I run it up. We're all at a hundred watts pretty much We're on 2420 every night from 830 until 10 o'clock The cool thing is we're local like so we're like in a 60 mile radius a clear as day no problem But then we're also getting like Mexico and you're getting that skip out of Texas or yeah It's it's a really weird band. Yeah I um, so I when the when the 10 meter band is up
I can drive around in the truck on 10 meter FM and I can hear repeaters in New York 10 meter repeaters in New York and I can key them from from from Texas driving around in my mobile He can 8F in the truck, but yeah, and starting this conversation with 891s Uh, I appreciate everybody's ordered eight to eight marks or arcs from me because you have officially funded The hf in the video Oh, well, I was supposed to do with that money was by a cable cutting machine So I could make new cables faster um, but it was driving to work one day and then I was like I wonder what these are going for in DX engineering had a hundred dollar rebate on the a toss And a hundred dollar rebate on the 891 I was like maybe a shame if I just oops So now I'm gonna chip in the truck. Oh, well, yeah But I did get to beta beta I temporary installed the a toss 128 on the truck I mean, I need to make a post about it. So this is the first everyone's officially hearing about this
um So some insider knowledge everybody But I put it on the truck on the front the on the hood with the hook mount wasn't bolted on When I put them out on there, I pinched two wires between the actual UHF connector Why I looked it all up and then I tuned it for 20 meters And I was on the rena coax back to the truck bed and had the radio sitting there and I christened My 891 never used it before didn't read the instructions that screw up figured out. I'm smart enough, I think Uh, had to go to one thing and worded two button was because I couldn't find it because it's hidden in the menu somewhere First contact in that radio was 20 watts to austria Oh, yeah, 4.5,000 miles 21. So I was like this is sweet. It's pretty is so cool Can I interrupt? Yeah, go ahead. I gotta go You gotta go I gotta log off um, yeah, I got all right. We're just we're just in a home for a long time So okay, it's great meeting everyone
Steve let's get to get us soon and do some stuff. I my September is kind of full I'm sorry my august is kind of full my September is a little bit open. Okay, um, but uh I'll get with you on on instagram some or dm or whatever to do a you know a big meetup with between robber and all of us I could figure out on a weekend. I put that in the chat I put that in the chat. I'm talking about we're talking about pins in september Okay, so are you guys are all of you guys on on instagram are on zoom right now. Are you guys on discord? Yeah, you know, are you on my discord server my discord server? No, I will be up to tonight. Okay, discord.hamradio2.com discord.hamradio2.com Find me in there hit me up I will add you to a couple of private groups for overlanding and and trips that we take and whatnot But yeah, discord.hamradio2.com I'll make sure you join us over there. All right gentlemen. Let's see. Thank you Steve. Yeah, thanks for having me really you bet
Yeah, you get a better Steve Yeah, thanks. I'll be all right I'm a big boy So there's there is a so I'll go ahead and say this now because I mean why not so there is a overland of America in J Oklahoma I went to this show last year Jeremy's in the chat. I think he's still there I was the first time I met Jeremy face-to-face They have a show in J as in northern Oklahoma and it's supposed to be the third week of september just like about a week ago They announced they were canceling that show I Don't know why I've heard speculation but I don't know why so it's an overland show that's about five hours from here well My wife and I are going to Galveston as soon as we get back from Huntsville we get back on I get back from Huntsville on Monday That following Friday we're driving to Galveston. We're staying for two weeks. We go to Galveston every year at labor day We spend time with family her family comes down. We have a good time down there um, yeah, Piedrich Island North C-shore is pins So my buddy Michael from the agape overland group
He's been talking about going down with another group called Calvary overland They do a beach cleanup day at podre ala north C-shore every year Well, it happens to be the weekend after the weekend I'm supposed to come back from Galveston on Friday September 11th and their pins cleanup day is the eleventh through that Monday So it's like four days and I'm like well, I'm in Galveston I'm already halfway to podre when I'm in Galveston So I had put in our chat Frank our overland chat. Okay. I was thinking like what How are you talking about here the overland crew chat in discord I'd say and since we're not going to jay ochlehoma this year Let's go down to podre I think it would make a kickass video To do a beach clean to to record these guys doing a beach cleanup They're like we go down there and we clean up the beach every year because we like to use the beach and if no one else does it We're gonna do it that kind of thing So there to be an incredibly good stewards of the camping spots And beach camping is fun anyway pins is a podre spot It's a national seashore just like outer banks national seashore is a podre spot
So the entire area is a podre spot so we can go down there We can camp we can set up awnings and whatnot and we can do ham radio and we can help them with their beach cleanup and record the whole thing on video So I'm looking out Outdated technology isn't going to improve a disconnected health care system next so what will At Optum we wake up every day and work for better we call it healthy optimism It's how we use insights and technology to help providers focus less on paperwork and more on patience Will we fix it all overnight? I take that back But yeah, so we're gonna we're gonna go down and do that. No, you guys aren't aren't close to Texas. Steve is So I'm maybe I'll try to get Steve to come down. I mean everyone's welcome of course But we're looking at doing that sometime in mid September second weekend September Going down to podry nasson. She's she sure. I would love it to that is a really good group of overlaying guys that go down there I think they have close to a hundred rigs that go to that thing every year Um, I think that's what I was told if I'm not mistaken But I would love to have a huge ham radio presence come down there and just kind of help them out and show them how supportive of a community We are so you want to get into bar a sea I have to take a bar a sea on there. You let me know one that is I can leave my bar a sea station up on 40 meters And the only thing I don't have stuff is that bbs bbs I questions which is crazy cool by the way really okay, uh So I've had some people play with it. You can send emails through my bar a sea station
Both the other hands and like to actually just anybody emails Uh, the AI super cool you you're in there. You have your location set right Uh, when you beacon out one of the things that goes out with the beacon is your grid square and the AI will automatically see that if you ask it What's the weather like in my area for 24 hours? It's going to be the go Oh, the weather in your area for 24 hours is going to be and then it will just Tell you uh, you can do that over a PRS. It's been a feature for a long long time But that's but what you're talking about is I've heard about it. I've never done it. I'm interested in learning more That's a great idea. It's really cool. I've seen people ask it. Hey, I'm an emergency my truck broke down I need I need to make a jungle antenna. How do I do that? And it will be like oh, you need to cut nice four pieces that 19.2 inches Install them such that you have one vertical rating. I'm gonna connect to the center pin with the three others spread equally down I like a For people to play with and it's super cool to a little bit tell you
Luckily out of the word set low enough. I don't always leave it up because it's also my shack at the house Uh, new to him radio don't have a bazillion dollars to spend on a half radios of all time. That's okay But no, I'm close enough to four meters. We'll definitely work at night and I can leave it up Hmm sweet. Okay. I might get with you about doing another video about that because I've that's something I That's something I've sadly never done before. I need that. I need to kind of look at a couple of the most like that that I've never actually done before so Various is heavily under your eyes. I think yeah, I agree with you. I totally agree with it. Yeah, but it's not What's more like jsa call is it? It's basically so versatile. JSA calls very very similar to F and F. Nars is what it's called so when the crap hits the fan everything goes down FEMA and the merge can make communication systems going to go to F in a rs Which is going to be very similar to jsa called Kind of similar to fta that will bounce through the stratosphere that will bounce when voiced everything else dies
So yeah having the ability to use jsa call is gonna be our something very similar. Yeah Yeah, but but but my point is that jsa call and var a c our keyboard keyboard over radio and win link is actually email Now you can do you can do email over the air that never hits a gateway You can totally do email to email over radio But generally speaking win link usually hits a gateway somewhere So you're emailing your buddy at gmail.com because you're in an area with no internet connection and they're at home or something Yeah, so the thing that Is I just say that var a c is like the jsa call fuse with win link? Okay, they call definitely does better than the noise. I'll tell you right now. It does. Okay. Okay, um, but jsa call allows you to Paying and ask any station can you hear this station and you can bridge messages between them to where you're going nice var a c allows you to do the same thing But kind of brings in the win link aspect of emails So if I can't reach somebody in california because I have to use a four to me to station for some reason
Maybe I can send to as far as Texas my japanese cuz For one of the midwestern states and they can ping at the rest of the way for me. Yeah, my stations highly compromised Just one of the cool things of rc does. I'm a huge guy in the digital modes The uh, I don't know if it's possible on a screen but the h o a part of my thing Everyone knows my h o a is like the worst for hammered your noise. It's ridiculous. Yeah, I turn on radio It's like here's your s7 noise floor enjoy. Yeah And it's like to my neighborhood explicitly Yeah, but that's why I got so hard in the digital mode my very first got started Yeah, because it didn't matter what my noise floor was digital just worked. Yeah. Yeah, so I've seen that day Say call I got that really early on WS JTX-RF-T-A gun that early on bar AC real I say recently like a year ago And recently reintroduced it into my plan Because a lot of guys like p coms who wasn't able to be where this night and
Radio made easy recently out of there for hours for that guy So he could ping my station and and change he's doing some remote in uh So he could like code that appropriately to include vary c You can ping my station and ask my ad to reddys Sonnet about hf radio Uh, I forgot that son said it was pretty amusing nonetheless. Yeah, yeah Good That's all it's yeah, yeah, all of the stuff is stuff I want to dip my toes into a little bit more so But uh, what's your name? What? No, no, not at all. Not at all. Yeah, okay And you can print it in any color too so we can throw your logos and stuff on there if you want it But I'll hop those up on the website pretty soon Uh to for sell and they've got they've got adjustable retention and you can put any sort of like uh attachment system on the back of them Okay, so that's a that's a pretty cool thing we got coming out the easy pro it has the same footprints other radius doesn't it? It's uh UV pros. Yeah, it's similar. Yeah, so make sure you listen and uh very interesting that if you let's list all of them Yeah, Roger that and then uh partnered with a couple of really brilliant guys from the local mesh And we've been working on this uh node and the this note is uh running a one watt rackboard in it um and it's uh
It's got uh it's got uh What the equivalent of uh 20 20-hour of battery life would be excited it uh with the cells What's cool about it is you can uh we've made it as weather proof is possible people keep asking are you guys gonna get it? No, uh because that costs money Oh, yeah, so um we're gonna get it as close to IP rated as humanly possible Uh, but we've got usbc fast charging and then we got triple antennas uh and they're all the zb um uh m2 antennas Uh, so yeah, we'll have that up on the website pretty soon too I'd be interested now. I've got the netac mesh system their server and uh two clients and I've also got the atlabs uh um the rm2 from atlabs and uh those are both really kickass systems both I thought that was gonna be a manette there for a second. I was like when can i get one Yeah, everyone's been asked everyone's been asking uh we're starting with one we're starting with the one rock rackboard Because like you know mesh and mesh housing and mesh core are huge and what we wanted was we wanted something that was a little bit more durable More user-friendly that could just run and run and run that we could strap on to a playcare
You can see that it's about the roughly the same dimensions as a rifle magazine as well So you can put it into a magazine carrier and so it can integrate your kit how you want it. Okay Okay sweet Okay, all right, so we're starting to lose people watching people starting to drop off which that that happens every time So in a third of yep, yep, thank you very much everyone for uh For a hang-in with us tonight um Check out the the links to everyone's instagram were shared in the chat tonight But they're also in the description of the youtube Livestream which will be replayable after this is over 45 megahertz has a patch there Nice pretty cool Hway him rated you guys all need patches. We had been on the ground for about six hours And and Burnsville very first government vehicle I saw was the post office delivering mail. Oh, yeah. Yeah In your covid shot. Well, yeah, yes Oh, hell any thing about the government. I'm curious um I'm originally from Ohio and I've got some family that does search and rescue We're recently they recently got a dog. Uh, can I have a dog it's got several certifications The thing with them is if you're not registered with FEMA, they don't want you in the area um, uh, so they have the offer. Hey, we want to drive down. We want to bring our dog or ATV We want to help you search in the area. I think it took them eight different stops before there was a department willing to let them work with them because they have a FEMA number
Yeah, that sounds good. Are you a hard it is to get dogs searching rescue dogs in an area that's risen and devastated by hurricane And they said no I I worked with local search and rescue groups here um, and you're right, but get dogs trained and everything There's a long certification process for that their local area supported them a time The the community donated the money to train the dog completely Oh, well, okay, so like awesome up there for them That's super cool and they don't just keep the dog to themselves the community loves When they see on the Facebook for the fire department our dog recently down to xyz location Helped save so many lives people love that Why would FEMA turn it down? Hey, the government's here for because they're FEMA.
