network. My name is Jeff Spiegel. And tonight I am joined by Jeff Snyder as we react to what was a pretty dismal, disappointing, boring Dodgers game. Well also I guess celebrating Jeff the fact that the Dodgers accomplished the thing that they've been striving to accomplish for a few weeks now. Yeah, I wish I could muster more outrage or joy at either of those things. Like the two seed it's been a sure thing for quite a while. The games against the Padres didn't really mean anything to the Dodgers. So yeah, they did make a few things official. But yeah, it was just playing out the string. Obviously you'd like to see the Dodgers win the game because we spent the time watching it for almost three hours. You know, might as well get some joy out of that. But all at all, three more chances. Got to win all of them to get to 100 wins. Although I've heard from the YouTube chats that they don't win the World Series, they only win the World Series and the win to lose in the 90s.

So maybe they go to and want to guess a Giants finish at 99 and three peat, baby. Yeah, exactly. Some some fascinating discourse around this team and around this game. We will get into all of that as I teased Dave Roberts spoke pre game about Dalt Rushing who's expected to be back with this team tomorrow. And he was asked kind of what they're looking for. He mentioned some speed off the bench. He's made some references, veiled ones to his way to Paula. It feels like so. Some interesting stuff to get into there is always want to say thanks to the people hopping in live with us on YouTube for the third night. Narrow those watching after the fact more than third night. Narrow, I guess third night. Narrow for me. Our channel has been live a lot more than that and everything's about you. It's not it's not I'm just saying for me third night. Narrow pop up. So we're going to get into all of that. But I think the most important thing even though we just watched a game Jeff is the fact that the Dodgers do secure the number two seed. They avoid the stupid wild card series where dumb things can happen in a three game set.

And while it has felt maybe assured for the last like week and a half. I definitely think there was a stretch of time in August when I would throw the odds up of the Dodgers getting a buy. And we all couldn't believe how how heavily favored they were to secure that they end up getting it. We knew the schedule was going to get easier, but Jeff, I don't think it's crazy to sit here and say a month ago. This didn't feel like a lock to get it to get the number two seed. I'm maybe not a lock. I've been like just looking at the schedule, looking at how poorly the Dodgers were playing. It was almost impossible for them to keep playing that poorly for the rest of the season. And so yeah, I don't know like I remember sitting here and asking you, hey, what do you think the odds are and us both being shocked that they were as far away from even odds as they work? I don't remember that conversation. I maybe yeah, maybe a little surprise, but I feel like looking at the schedules.

It's always been the odds were always against the Braves with who they had to play and looking at the Dodgers. I wouldn't say that I expected the Dodgers to dominate this stretch of bad teams as much as they did. I mean, this Padre series is the only series they have in this stretch against a non-bad team. Yeah. You know, different degrees of bad, of course, but yeah, so they, if they don't dominate, if they were just really good instead of super good during that stretch, it would be more of a conversation. But yeah, like whenever it was, I don't know when it was that I first looked at the September schedule for all three teams. And I've been pretty confident since then that the Dodgers are going to get the buy. And they've been confident for a couple of weeks now. I mean, they just the way that Dave Roberts has been talking, the way they've been setting things up and everything. The Dodgers have had no intention for at least the last couple of weeks of playing any games during the week next week.

Yeah, I mean, attention. I think it's been the last like seven days probably when Dave Roberts has started to speak almost assuming that this was going to be a year. That this was going to be happening once it got to the point where it's like, hey, the magic number is five and there's like, you know, nine games left in the season or something like that. But I do think you're underselling a little bit how bad this team looked a month ago. Now neither of us were worried about like the World Series aspirations of this team. We knew they had been through stretches in August. Again, you are famously like who cares about any of this stuff according to most people in our chat. But like, I think there's a difference between saying I'm not worried about whether or not this team is going to, you know, be able to compete in win a World Series. And I'm not worried about this team being able to close going to your point. I mean, it has required them to go. I believe they're 15 and five in their last 20 games. Like, that is what has required for them to clinch this spot with three games to go. And so it has been a very different stretch of baseball from this team than we saw just a handful of weeks ago.

And I'm sure everybody, you know, there were obviously dooms. Who said it would never happen. Maybe maybe there were really people who who at the end of August were still saying lock it in minus 2000 Dodgers to get the buy. I don't know. But I think even though they haven't played great baseball the last two nights, I think it has been a dramatic shift in how the scene has played that felt to say that it was a lock seems. I don't know far fetched. But you look at so they're 15 and five in those 20 games. They're four games up on the Braves. Right. Braves are the tie breakers. So they have to finish that of them. If the Dodgers had gone 12 and 8 in those 20 games set of 15 and five, they would still be in position to get the get the buy with the series against the Giants still coming up. That's like the math just never that that's what like you can't underestimate the importance of playing bad teams. And it's not good luck on the Dodgers part. It means they already played the bad teams. You know they haven't gotten their their their licks against these bad teams.

Yeah. And so now they get them here at the end of the season. Good news for them. I guess that it plays out that way because it did make it a little less less stressful for them. But yeah, like ever since 2017 when the Dodgers lost well with 15 out of 16 or 16 out of 17. I know there was a 16 involved. I can never remember if that was a number of losses or the number of games. But they were from late August to early September. The Dodgers looked like the worst team in the history of the world. Yeah. And then they went to the world series and would have won it if the other team hadn't cheated. And so ever since then I just I just don't put that much stock in how a team plays in August. I mean the Braves the Braves also had to drop two of three to the reds this week for this not to be a magic number of two with three games to go. So like there's a lot of different factors in play here. The Braves have helped them out. And yes, the Braves had a harder schedule. But again, they lost two of three to the reds who the Dodgers just decimated.

Yeah. And obviously it could have gone differently. I just feel like, yeah, I don't feel like I've been stressed about it for for I think it's been a long time since I've been super. Because you were just like so confident that this number two seed was going to happen or because you didn't care if they had to play in the wild card round. No, I definitely didn't want to play in the wild card round. No, I've been I don't know. If I know there's going to be a quiz, I would have written in a journal every night. Like what's my confidence level? I because I don't remember exactly when I'd maybe I should look at their schedule and see when was it that I, you know, what game was it that I thought, OK, yeah, they're now they're in good shape. But I don't know. Like once they because when they got what they get swept by the Braves to and that pulled the Braves even with them. So that was August 27th when that that sweep ended. And then yet and they lost three of their next four.

Three of their next four to the Tigers and Cardinals and when they went on against. So I wonder what the standings were after September 2nd. What the what the Braves did in those four games after sweeping the Dodgers because that's. Let's see what they did. So they August 28th through for September. Oh, so they swept the Rockies and then. Yeah, so so they were a couple games ahead of the Dodgers there for for a little bit. September. Yeah. Yeah. It was September. Yeah, it's probably been three weeks. It probably is as soon as the Dodgers. So the Braves lost two in a row at the very end of August. And then right after that, the Dodgers started winning. They probably probably retook the lead over the Braves sometime in that September 3rd, 4th, 5th range. So both games were 83 and 57 on September.

After September 2nd. Yeah, so the Braves didn't play on the 3rd. So yeah, both teams were 83 and 57 on September 3rd. So three weeks ago is when the Dodgers retied the Braves and then the Dodgers have hardly lost since then. Yeah. And but either and that's when we were looking at the schedules like, okay. So the Braves now face the Phillies and then the rays and then the Phillies again and then the Cubs. And you know, they they did okay in those, but yeah, I mean, they lost. They went five and. For six and eight in those four or five series. And that was. Yeah. I mean, the Dodgers were winning. So I knew the schedule stuff was coming on September 3rd. I'm just looking at the schedule and it's like the Dodgers had lost six of eight going into that game. And so in it, there was a vibe around how this team was playing. We don't need to rehash it clearly. You know, I don't think like counting games on a schedule is thrilling content for the people on here.

But I think what's that? How many thumbs down zero at the moment, zero at the moment. 400 people in here live. But again, regardless of how this team has gotten here. What what what do you think the vibes are because I think two days ago when they beat the Padres. And I'm on here with Kevin on Tuesday night. The vibes are great, even though Hoseway, the Paula, the news was coming. But the Dodgers said one of bunch of games. It felt assured that this this number two seed was coming because the Dodgers won in the Braves lost all of some of the magic numbers one. And now they play two games in a row against the Padres and you know, again, you and I are not the two people that are going to overreact to two games. But I do think there you go. We just got the four thumbs down. So at once. So we appreciate those people for hopping in and giving giving pop pop what he was asking for. But but I do think like, you know, Teosker Hernandez, a couple bad at bats today. You know, like Justin Robleski, some of the bullpen arms that maybe are going to be sort of not at the back end, but the front end of the bullpen that's continuing to struggle a little bit.

So like, do you think do you think these last two games mean anything Jeff? No, does it change the way you feel about a single thing about the Dodgers? Let me ask it that way. Well, I mean, there's little things always things you can learn. Edwin Diaz continues to look better. So I think that's the whole point of these games is to learn things about individual players, figuring out roster stuff. You're not going to learn anything about the team because these were games that were essentially meaningless to the Dodgers and pretty darn meaningful to the Padres. Yeah. And so and as you've mentioned to several people on Twitter, it's not like the Dodgers just didn't do anything. They just didn't do anything with runners-to-scoring position. Yeah. Which is a thing that happens sometimes. The Dodgers are still like one of my running gags is that every baseball fan believes that their favorite team has the worst third base coach, the worst bullpen, and the worst performance with runners-to-scoring position.

And the fact is that Dodgers this year are very good with runners-to-scoring position. Yeah. Not so much in the last couple days. And we also had that stretch a couple weeks ago where I think it was during that Cardinals series where it's like holy crap. Are they ever going to, oh yeah, because Teo got the walkoff hit. That was their first hit in like 8,000 years with the runner-to-scoring position in that last game against the Cardinals. But that's when it was so Teo got that hit and then Teo went on a tear. And that's when I'm okay. If Teo starts hitting and the Cal Tucker start hitting, it's just like, okay, this team is too good to be this bad for that long. But anyway, so yeah, you're not learning anything about the team here because the motivation levels were different. And I know you should try to win every game. And the Dodgers obviously, the Dodgers wanted to win these games. But the Podre's brought in Mason Miller with the Four Run lead yesterday. You know, they pulled their pitchers early. They like, we have a great bullpen. We got to use it.

The Podre's were managing these games as if they were must win playoff games. And the Dodgers were managing as if they have playoff games coming up in nine days. And you're going to do what we need to do to learn what we need to learn. And hopefully, you know, some of those balls fall with runs of scoring positions. You get a little bit better at bats from today. It was Teo looking like old Teo with a couple of big key moments. But yeah, I don't think there's anything to learn about the team from these games, just individual players. Two hits in their last 22 at bats with runners in scoring position. The two hits where Andy Pahez's bloop single into center field last night that Teosker Hernandez probably got thrown out at third on a force play. And then the second one came when Shohei Otoni doubled in the night inning of tonight's game to make it a four to two game right before Mookie Betts was unable to cash it in. So those are the only two. They have one RBI in their last 22 at bats with runners in scoring position. They have scores did score on a block.

So they're fighting creative ways to score. But I'm with you. Like I'm arguing with people on social media who's saying like, you know, because I pointed out when all the Dodgers offense has fall apart since the poll left. I'm like, you know, they had 21 base runners and in 14 innings halfway through this game. And you know, the person's point, well, they didn't score. I'm like, okay, well, if they had scored three runs on three hits, would you feel better about the Dodgers offense? Then you do about no runs on 2021 base runners. Like the past is the thing that what is more predictive of the future? I'd rather have a team that is going to put on one and a half base runners every single inning. And I'll take my chances with runners in scoring position than the team that finds a way to, you know, manufacture three runs on three hits because one of those is just more likely to be sustainable than the other. And nobody likes to hear it when you watch your team go two for 22 over two and a half games dating back to like the sixth inning on Tuesday. But it's just the reality of why you should feel slightly more confident. I guess moving forward. Then maybe you did a couple days ago.

Yeah. And people, people want to believe in clutch. And clutch performances. I believe in clutch. I believe that clutch performances exist. And I believe that there are certain players who are slightly less overwhelmed by the pressure. But, yeah, I mean, the numbers bear out that the vast majority of the time, guys who are clutch one year, it levels out over the course of their careers. It's, you know, clutch, clutch performances exist, but not like there's nothing about Miguel Rojas hitting that home run last year that was because Mickey Roas clutch. He was just Mickey Ro had to really get it back. And, you know, he had a good take on a pitch that, you know, a little bit better curveball from Jeff Hoffman and Mickey Roas strikes out looking at that at bat because he wasn't going to swing at it, you know. And he said he got a big home run. It was awesome. It was a absolutely clutch moment. But it's not because Mickey is this clutch hero, you know, it's because he had a clutch moment. And so if I, like we want these Dodgers to hit well in the clutch.

The fact that they haven't the last couple games doesn't mean they won't the next couple games doesn't mean they won't in the NLDS because it's different performances like you look at Otani strikeout last night with the bases loaded. Like that was just case the picture one. He was one centimeter away from walking walking in a run in a bat and then having a fresh count for the next guy David Morgan. Like he's pounding these 98 mile an hour four seamers. And then and show you a couple off. And he throws a 98 mile an hour sinker. It was the same pitch except it dropped a foot and moved to the right of foot. And it's like that pitch literally impossible for anybody to hit after the sequence that Otani had seen. That was just the pitcher winning the bat. And you know, 36% of the time he's going to try to throw that pitch and it's going to tail out of the zone. And Otani's going to walk, you know, and but it's 0% of the time is any hitter in any world going to put the bat on ball because you can't even guess right on that.

It's like I have never seen this guy throw this pitch before. And and he threw it perfectly. So you know sometimes the pitcher just wins. But a lot of the times like I don't know what was going on with him tonight. It was a bad night. He's been really, really good for several weeks now, including last night. And so I'm not worried about Oh, no, crappy. Teo is back. Crapie. Teo was back tonight though. Yeah. And and that almost like his last two bats. Like I didn't even think his first two of bats were that's early bad. It was the last two where we're chasing Teo. Can you strike out on three pitches his first at bat? Yeah, but I mean it's way more of an approach thing to me than it is an results thing. Yeah. Like he could strike out on three pitches and it not be a terrible at bat in the same way that the last one he was swinging literally no matter what the pitch was. It was just slider in the dirt swing right over the top of it. And that almost makes me feel better because I do expect. Teo to not be crappy version of Teo. And and so if we get non crappy tale tonight, this game's totally different. If we get you know, it's probably not Robleski coming in in that situation.

If the score is different, if the Dodger up by a run instead of down by a run and you know Robleski. You know, didn't do his job will say that he may come up later in this show. But you know, everything could be different if Teo has a better bat in one of those at bats. And and that's why baseball is a game of inches and even a game where you end up losing by what they lose by two runs tonight. Yeah, four to two. Yeah, you know, but you can see these couple little things if that goes a tiny bit different. It's a totally different ballgame. And so you can't just look at the final scores. Oh, they never had a chance. Even last night's five to one game. You know, if Yama just takes you out of first on the but that's one run off the board. And you know, just little things and it's a baseball is a crazy game. I mean, the ball is the ball that Max Muncie gets past Muncie with Robleski on the mound. Pa has his throw into Edmund where Edmund can't handle it. I think that run was going to score anyways. Like by the time they showed the replay a lot would have had to go right for Edmund to catch the ball and tagged the guy before the run comes to home.

But regardless, those are the types of things where you get one small change here and there. Muncie makes a play potentially even turns to and the next play doesn't matter. But again, regardless, the Dodgers win the headline. However, the Dodgers do clinch the number two C thanks to the Cincinnati Reds taking down the Atlanta Braves in an absolutely wild series down there. They go to extras yesterday. One teams up like five to four to one. Then they come back. Seven to six is the final score. So shout out to the fine people of Cincinnati where I was last week for doing their job and knocking off the brakes. We got a ton of super chats filling up. We've got a wave of them. Smurfy 24-dose. That seven runs Tuesday, one run yesterday. Two tonight. What's the difference? The spark of energy was sent down to Oklahoma City. This is a common theme, Jeff. The reason the Dodgers have lost the last two games is because Hostway Depala got sent down. Is there a single percentage of truth in this theory in your opinion? There's probably about a single percentage of truth to it. Yeah, I don't think it's the major factor by any means. And more to the point, I think that the Dodgers aren't playing to win these games. The Dodger are playing to win games in October. Well, they're pot. I mean, they're trying. It's not, but I mean, you have to be careful because when you say something like that, what it sounds like you were saying is they're not trying to win tonight. They were trying to win tonight.

Yes, I hadn't put a period into my sentence yet. They later said the Dodgers are not trying to win these games. They said they weren't playing to win these games. They're playing to win games in October. Not, not, yeah, they, if they're going to play, the mind is well win, but their purpose, their main goal is to win games in October. Their best chance to do that is for if, if Hostway Depala is on the roster for him to hit well when he gets opportunities to. And his best chance to hit well knowing the show, heo, tawny is getting all the DH bats for the last five games of the season is for Depala to be getting at bats somewhere and that places triple A. And it doesn't, you know, if these games mattered, Depala would still be there. If these games matter, Alex Freelman would have been the one to get sent down. But they matter the most to Depala's development, Depala being hot and ready when the playoffs start for him to be getting a bunch of, and it's playoff at bats and triple A.

Yes, it's triple A playoffs, but it's still, you know, better than getting tonight, by the way. So they're going to keep playing against the another series. They won the, they won the PCL championship tonight. So, so that's good. He gets to keep on batting, keep on getting real bats in meaningful games, meaningful minor league games, but still many full games. And honestly, at a level he's never played that before. He hadn't been to triple A before. So now he gets to go to triple A. Yeah, I would much rather have Hostway Depala on the Dodgers. If we're just talking about the Dodgers chances of winning these last two games. If we're talking about the vibes in the dugout right now, Depala's fun, all of that. But yeah, I mean, they want Hostway Depala to be able to contribute in October. And this is his best chance to do that. You don't think him getting pinch hit at bats in majorly games is more important than him getting eight at bats and triple A. Well, it's not eight. It was at least eight. Well, no, it was, I mean, they could have lost yesterday. It actually was guaranteed to be four basically.

And then they won. So now it will end up being, I don't even know how many games do they play against the international league. I have no idea. I see there one game or a three game series. But I mean, he's guaranteed another, you know, somewhere between four and eight at bats. But at the time when they sent him down, he was guaranteed four at bats, maybe eight. And, you know, what we've talked about in the postseason, like, where's the, where's the path to pinch hitting at bats for him in the postseason? That same thing is true here. It's not like there's been a bunch of insid, they weren't going to hit for tail with, with Depala tonight in those at bats. So he probably gets zero at bats in these last two games. Well, maybe one thing we got five to one. They probably would have pinched it there. So one at bat. Yeah, I do think it's more important for him to be getting consistent at bats. Keep that ball rolling. Stay hot. You know, and yeah, I think that's. I would not be upset if postweight Apollo was still on this on the roster. Yeah, I don't think it would totally negatively impact him.

But I absolutely understand their thinking and can't really quibble with the little. Yeah, I think I think that's the point to be to be made that we both agree with is like it pop up and I were in charge. Oh, so it would still be with the Dodgers. To me, if the role for him is clearly going to be a pinch hit or off the bench, I just refused to see how getting eight played appearances in AAA now 12 or 16 or however many is more important than just prioritizing getting him a pinch hit at bat in basically every single game that they play down the stretch given that that is like the actual role. He is going to have for this team. We can quibble over whether someone agrees or disagrees with that. He went over three yesterday with two walks. I believe he was one for four today with a single. I ultimately don't think it like really matters all that much. I just would rather him practice the thing that he's actually going to be doing in October if he's doing anything. Yeah, I don't know that there's that there's enough of a difference between pinch hitting and D Hing to like I don't think it's that different of a role because he's going to know they're going to say be mad but hey, no, it's way.

We've got Edmund coming up next inning or whatever that's probably your lane. If you're going to get it and at bat tonight, that's probably your lane. So, you know, he's going to have about as much notice of his next bat as he would have when he was D Hing and so go down hit the cage between innings or whatever. I think that's one of the most difficult times in Oklahoma City for what it's worth. Yeah, and that's another another reason why maybe it made sense for him to be worried so he can go practice playing the outfield in games that matter to the triple a championship but not to act things that actually matter because the fact is if he can play a passable outfield, he is more valuable to this team in October. And it's not likely that he's going to get to that point. Yeah, but it's it's 100% sure that he's not going to if he's just sitting on the bench taking one pinch in at bat every game, you know, I think I think it's 100% sure both both ways but again, I think these are the thing we're agreeing on is we both with so it's way to pause on this roster and neither of us thinks the reason the Dodgers lost yesterday or today is because so it's way to pause not here.

Correct. Some more super chats here, some are fee another $5 if trying to pitch himself off the postseason roster then Robleski did tonight seems like the white flag was waived when he was put in over Brock Stewart. I don't agree with the white flag piece here, but do you where do you stand on Robleski and the postseason roster? You know, the hope with Robleski was that coming out of the bullpen, the velocity would take up the swing and miss would take up because you know as you and I have both been saying basically all season, the version of Robleski does not get in swing and miss when it's successful when he's successful, it's mostly luck. And tonight he wasn't getting the swing and miss and we saw what happens you have, you know, one that monthsy maybe you definitely could have made the plan you could you make an argument that you should have, but it was hit hard like you, you give up hard hit contact bad things happen and tonight it was what four straight hits after he came in replacing class now and that's not the version of Robleski that's going to get any outs and so.

Yeah, lucky for Robleski he's got at least one more appearance and if his next appearance, the velocity is ticked up I actually haven't looked what was he at today 97.4 is what he topped out at last year he was hitting 99 in the postseason a little bit. The he maxed at 97.4 today as low as 95.6 on his four seamer that's that's almost starting picture just to Robleski velocity and that's you know he needs that velocity to tick up if he's going to have any value coming out of the out of the bullpen and so he's got probably one more appearance against the Giants and I don't think it's just going to be results he could come in and have a one two three inning. If you still sit in the 96 97 with the fastball I think they're asking okay this isn't what we're looking for and so he's going to need to tick up that velocity if he wants to be on the postseason roster.

Don't care 187 I'd like to apologize to Arizona fans for my team pathetic performance over the last two games the baseball gods and punish us for sending JD P away SMH it would suck to be an Arizona fan I had a Cubs fan that was pissed at me tonight for the Dodgers performance last two nights and to all of those people I say deal with your own problems the rest of the season and don't rely on us to win games. If you were expecting the Dodgers to be in like you know I would say it is almost surprising that the Dodgers were playing for anything on September 23rd and 24th. So if you were counting on the Dodgers to do anything of substance this late in the season I think that's on you. Yeah I should have won more than 85 games so far fellas over there in Arizona you know yeah. Savvy says not being able to be playoff teams equal disappointing this is the balance right we talk about how good the Dodgers have been we talk about how we their schedule is and I think it's it's the classic this is the beauty of sports talk and sports discourse is the dooms can can look at a 15 and five stretch to close the season which very well might be 17 and you know 18 and five or 17 and six based on the fact that they're playing the giants and say well none of it matters because the

they played bad teams whereas the optimist can say 17 and six going into the postseason pretty freaking good for a team that everyone had high expectations for so you can only play the teams on their schedule the Dodgers don't get to decide and you know obviously the Padres the one good team and they lose two out of three so everybody gets what they want here I guess. They lose to out of three to drop them to eight and five on the season against this particular playoff team to go along with two and one against the Yankees and three and oh against the raise and four and two against the Phillies. They have they've beat some playoff teams this year they've also lost to some playoff teams but you know which ever crappy team out of the American like West ends up in the playoffs the Dodgers have a winning record record against them too. So yeah it's the Dodgers are fine against good teams they're fine against bad teams and the postseason everything starts over I always go back to 1988 which you're probably too young to remember. The Dodgers went they went one in 10 against the Metz in the regular season and then beat them in the NLCS.

I think it was one in 10. I'm not going to yeah I won't be fact checking you on that. Yeah and you know and that one took some luck too. Mike Socia who never hit home runs hit a big three run homeroff at Dwight Gooden in the night didding in a game you know they're like every every world series championship has Momoture you look at wow they got lucky there you know in 2020 it was it was that crazy stupid double play against the the Braves in game seven of the NLCS among other things and last year there were what 35 of them just in game seven plus the way game six ended and you know it there's always those things and you can't predict those it's that's why they play the games and so the Dodgers are nothing about the two losses have me concerned about all know can they can they beat the good teams yet they're going to be just fine. Right will with the ten dollar super chat we appreciate that right will so Dodgers back into the second seed great starting pitching bad offense not a way to get ready for the post season.

Diaz looks better in the ninth misfiring without the spark plug JDP. Some people would say Jeff that great starting pitching and bad offense is exactly how to get yourself ready for the post season because that's pretty much how they won the last two world series. Yeah well two two years ago is great relief pitching. Yeah I just said pitching here you know big picture. Yeah the the offense the Dodgers offense didn't whether it would be fun if they could win it with offense this year and I think that's totally possible. Sure. Show how tawny has had a few hits he's also had three barrels for outs he's had you know what four or five hard hit balls for outs in these two games. He's hitting the ball hard it's understandable that after playing what one game in the last three and a half weeks that yeah his timing might not be quite right for quite the right launch angle that's why they they were it was so important to get him. All these at bats in these last five games of the season so that hopefully he can get that timing back and by the time they play a meaningful game again next Saturday he's ready to go and that's yeah that that's what they're counting is guys like Otani guys like pie has getting his timing back.

Guys like to Paula keeping his timing you know Teo getting past this one old Teo ish game by the way I looked at first a bat he swung at all four pitches only one was in the strike zone it was a bad Teo a bad two it was just a bad Teo night which makes it easy to write it off okay old Teo showed up. Exercise do demons tonight and a good Teo can fly to San Francisco. Let's hope every game day you show up for your team now it's your time. A thick juicy cheeseburger a cheesy gooey quesadilla both family favorites so how do you choose at Applebees you don't have to introducing Applebees new OMG's a dear burger heart juicy beef burger Part ear is a stably cheesy quesadilla served with tortilla chips on the sizzling skillet of even more cheese we dare you to resist the poll right now the O M cheese a dear burger is on Applebees 2 for 25 menu a full-sized appetizer and two entrees including the O M cheese a dear burger for just 25 bucks that's eaten good in the neighborhood. Let's go speaking of San Francisco by the way I want to pause real quick and go ahead and look at the fandal odds from tomorrow fandal another sponsor of this show scoobal set to pitch tomorrow again activated off the business list against Marta I believe is you near you near marta I believe minus 375 the Dodgers odds against the team they swept

Do you think there this team wakes up tomorrow Jeff and and travels to San Francisco ready to pound some flesh. Did you know there are two guys in Major League baseball right now named you near marta I don't know if that's a rhetorical question answer would be no I did not know that I didn't know there was one player in Major League baseball and you near marta It has been a few days since he pitched against the Dodgers so that's understandable the Dodgers scored six runs in four and two thirds innings off of Junior Marta five days ago they get another crack at him tomorrow Junior Marta is not a great pitcher he's had a couple good performances he's also had a couple bad ones and the Dodger gets to face in Tomorrow Tarek scoobal has lost tune up before the postseason against mostly the Giants double a team I Haven't looked at their current roster I would guess that at least half of their current roster played in double a this year that's my guess

I'll look it up after we're done and I'll I'll post in the discord so I but yeah I like the Dodgers chances I feel like minus 375 As ridiculous as it is feels about right for tomorrow. Yeah, and it's funny because you look at the total seven and a half and you think okay Dodgers maybe the offense a little bit of a get right game the flip side is though Are the Giants going to score off of Tarek scoobal who knows so thank you to fandal for being a sponsor of this show we appreciate them and their support let's get back to some of these Super chats here Luis says do you guys think the Dodgers just want to get through the rest of the regular season and be ready for the playoffs they looked with no energy to me I would say yes obviously like I shouldn't say obviously yes the goal is now to just get across the finish line kind of what you were saying earlier I always quibble with this idea of they looked like a team with no energy I think a team that doesn't score always looks like a team with no energy I've never seen a team who plays with incredible energy who scored one run going into the night inning I think you get energy from scoring runs primarily that's a great way like a two out hit

With a runner and second base is a great way to get energy when that's not happening I don't think it has as much to do with the guys in the dugout as it does the performance on the field so that that would be my only pushback to this idea of energy that I've seen a lot of I think we're flipping cause and effect you know it's just like team chemistry chemistry is the effect of winning not the cause of winning Energy is the effect of scoring runs not the cause of scoring runs yeah they look like they were having fun tonight because they kept getting guys on base and then not being able to get them in and that's not fun If they got them in it wouldn't it been because they were having more fun it would have been the reason they were having more fun Yeah Olivia $2 super chat any concern about Max Muncie and Tommy Edmund lots of strikeouts from those two guys Yeah Edmund there's less concern not because I expect him like I'm more confident he'll be better but just because he's less important to the team Edmunds they're nine hitter in October

Muncie is we needed to be in middle of the middle of the order guy and you know Joe Davis mentioned on the broadcast the other day Max Muncie has been open about the fact that he's kind of chasing that 30th homer and maybe that's impacting his approach and you know Muncie was kind of the spearhead in 2024 of hey guys let's put all our focus on October and put away everything else you know tell your wives we'll see in a couple of weeks Muncie knows how to focus for October so I'm less concerned about Edmund because he's less important I'm less concerned about Muncie because I'm more confident that he's going to snap out of it How's this for a crazy Max Muncie I'm looking at Muncie stats by the way he's over 10 in his last three games prior to that he had seven hits in the four games prior to that so it's two hits two hits one hit two hits so like we're not all that far removed but here's the stat that blows my mind you have to go back to September 11th to find the last time that Max Muncie drew a walk Jeff

like this is a guy whose entire game is built around walking and hitting home runs I mean we're talking about his chain rate during that time No I'm just looking at his at sort of a fan graphs game log I mean we're talking like 12 games basically that he has played including tonight it's 45 played appearances I believe since his last walk Yeah and that probably is trying to chase the 30 homers and you know to be fair he did hit three homers in five games or whatever at some point in that stretch so he you know it was working for him but yeah I I don't I wish he had gotten that 30th Homer at some point in the last couple games so that then he could just spend these last three games remembering how to be Muncie but yeah I think his snap out of it and I think the plate discipline is definitely something that will need to come back and I'm confident that it will Yeah Muncie I'm with you again it's three bad games immediately following basically three great games that he started he had three straight starts with two hits and then he went one for two as a pinch hitter in between there

Edmund I think is interesting because and this is why so much of my postseason roster thoughts are on such a razor's edge that little things can shift them but for the longest time it's like who are they going to pinch hit for I think Tommy Edmund over the last couple weeks has made a pretty strong case that he's the guy that's going to get pinch hit for in a big spot tonight it was Miguel Rojas pinch hitting for Max Muncie although I think that probably had a little more to do with one more at Baton Dodger Stadium not knowing what the future held for him not to mention how bad Muncie's looked but that that's one thing that I think has shifted a little bit for me Jeff is the fact that I think originally Tommy Edmund was in such a stretch that I was like he's just going to stay on there because of the defense and the hitting well the defense has kind of been a mess for a week and the hitting has been a mess for like 10 to 14 days as well so maybe a host way to Paul a type that the odds of this player being on the postseason roster even if you thought they were above 50% I feel like every bad Tommy Edmund game just makes that number go up yeah and if you know if Edmund say he's the starting second baseman in the postseason they're going to have at least two guys on the bench

who can play second base and so you absolutely will be able to pitch pinch hit for him three guys if if they only carry 12 pictures and bring his on Kim you know there's another Alex Friedland or Alex Friedland who I don't think it's a zero percent chance I'm not advocating for it I'm not I'm not I'm just saying I think unless somebody gets hurt between now and then it's a zero percent chance that's my opinion. I think injuries is the only way that Alex Friedland even that his mom even thinks he has a chance to make the postseason roster. He's on the Dodgers roster right now I don't know how it could be zero percent when's the last time he played. Yeah I mean he's again he's on the roster because they don't care about his development like they do with the Paula like okay we we don't care you you get rusty because we don't have plans for you after this week. Yeah we've got plans for these other guys. Yeah again I don't think it's possible but I zero percent seems low to me maybe it's seven percent you know and I'm not going to argue over seven.

Skier loves baseball wasted a gem from glass now don't love Robo and the fireman role given his lack of swinging miss different game if Muncie and Tommy play better defense we haven't got a chance to talk about Tyler glass now was incredible no hitter through five. I think you finished with 11 strikeouts I believe it was basically three pitches in a row that took him out of this one but this was this is just a a a small reminder that when Tyler glass now is right he's in the conversation for one of the top 10 to 15 pictures in Major League baseball. Agreed and I think if this was October I think glass now finishes the seventh inning I think this was an audition for Justin Robleski when glass now walked whoever it was that he walked boguards. I'm going to go this is a this is a situation to see what Robleski can do give him an opportunity to either earn a spot on the post he's roster or cement what we already think and you know but I think I think last now.

The first three pitches to Bogartra balls and then he got right back in that back and had it you put up a really good. Battle there and you know Bogart's won the battle but I think that. If you gave Dave Robert some truth serum and said. Who do you think has a better chance of getting out of this inning Tyler glass now are just some Robleski I think Dave Roberts has time like glass now and so I think if the game was more important they would have stuck with glass now and that's why when I say things like they weren't playing just to win. Tonight it's things like that where you have to audition guys you know the whole goal of winning October means we need to know if we can count on Justin Robleski big check in the no column tonight you know we need to know this and that but if the game was more important I think glass now gets a chance to finish the seventh. Yeah and they also keep in mind Jack drier believe had pitched two games in a row coming into this one so there was some availability stuff mixed in there as well. Let's see David Mendoza with the super chat here five dollars sending JDP down doesn't just affect our offense the Dodgers look bored and old no excitement no youth no fun SMH Dodgers again I think we would all agree that hostway to Paula brought some youthfulness and some excitement to this group and I think I just I again not to just continue to beat a dead horse I don't think all of that excitement just disappeared when he did two days ago and I don't think it's going to make that big of a difference.

He's going to be in the dugout whether he's on the actual roster or not and again all signs point towards there's probably a still a pretty good chance he's just going to be back in the roster. I don't think I just refuse to believe there is a direct line between they lost tonight and yesterday because hostway to Paula got sent out. I suspect people were a little bit excited to have show Tony back to I bet there's a little bit of excitement and getting the best player in the world back. I believe everything is on Twitter though and I think we shouldn't discount the possibility that the real issue here is that there's no more LA zero Fanzo. Yeah true it's a great point it's a great point or great point Kyle hurt I believe yeah yeah Ray Soto dollar 99 super chat we appreciate you Olivia with another five dollars super chat thank you do you think our batters are more impatient with chase or with less urgency when Otoni is in the lineup. Do you think there is a difference in the overall approach when show hey Otoni comes back.

I don't think so I think you know hostway to Paula was on the roster because Otoni was hurt and that happened to coincide with the whole lot of games against bad teams. I think the biggest difference was the quality of the opponent the last couple days and obviously like I said earlier the Dodgers can beat good teams it doesn't mean they were destined to lose these games but I think that's the biggest difference I think it's easy. To be loose and have vibes and have fun when you're kicking the crap out of the reds and the whoever else the Dodgers kick the crap out of the last couple weeks. Giants yeah it's it's different and we'll see they get to play the Giants against starting tomorrow and so we'll see what it's like but yeah I don't. I don't think it's a different approach with Otoni and if anything like more impatient with chase or with less urgency I don't know those almost feel like opposites to me like.

You know you want the I like the past the baton mentality you know and the differences the guys need to come through after the baton gets passed them Dodgers have done a great job passing the baton the last couple nights. Yeah the seven finished the race exactly the guy running the last leg has you know run like me unfortunately and hit like me too and yeah that's that's a difference and I really. Believe that that's more a a flukey thing that's a fluke of who's up imagine if more of those at bachelor's and scoring position had come with mookie up to bat you know and tonight he did get one and he didn't get to hit but it that's his baseballs a hard sport but you know sometimes you just have the wrong guy up at the wrong time of the lineup and that happens and sometimes you have the wrong guy up and he hits a game tying home running game seven the world series anyway you know like it's just yeah I don't know I know it's not satisfying to just. Well that's baseball but that's baseball. Savvy says $5 super chat I missed JDP at bats but I missed Tucker and Teo swinging a hot bat even more I wish this defense was better so I could be more upset about him being sent down.

Teo had like a bad night tonight Kyle Tucker had a bad night tonight these guys have been great even as far back as last night in the night before that so I think we can just I think the approaches worth monitoring I would not even be slightly concerned about Kyle Tucker and I'm not going to be a bad night tonight. And I'm really not all that concerned about Teo's her hand is I think they showed a graphic that over the last three weeks he has the best batting average and all of major league baseball or something like that Teo's does he's hitting like 385 so you know small sample size tonight and you know again worth monitoring if it continues. And Padre's burner we appreciate your two dollars cope and cry back to back clenching Dodgers stadium LM a.o. Amazing that we're talking about clenching a wild card spot and remembering where that happens fantastic it's just a different life they lead down there. Can you even imagine going to a podcast of a team you hate and giving them money the best to brag that we're only eight games behind you now suckers.

Yeah and we clenched we clenched this spot in the wild card. Yeah the Dodgers already did two celebrations earlier like Dodgers if they you know they didn't even celebrate Dodgers clenched the buy today which is more important than you know what you guys did and and you know they may have they probably toasted each other in the clubhouse guarantee there is no champagne yeah yeah I mean yeah for sure I mean right before the game so there was nothing happening pregame i'm sure there's a little bit of something post game but every game day you show up for your team. Yeah magic rock squam $5 you'll like this nightdog is a baseball atheist he doesn't believe in anything mystical. It's probably pretty accurate. Yeah mystical like I believe there are good players and bad players and I and in between and I think your best chance to get a hit in a key

situation is that one of those good players up because good players get hit tomorrow from the bad players yeah and so yeah I think there's plenty of I wouldn't use word mystical but there's also a guy I'm trying to think of like a kike Hernandez is what I think people would point to as a bad player who for whatever reason has consistently come up with at a higher rate than most other Dodgers players hits in the post season. Yeah and I guess you weren't here with us last year when I talked about cake tober a lot my concern I Kike is one of the few people I believe does turn it on for October and and the reason I believe it is because there's a logical explanation he said I have ADD I can't focus on a long season but once there's a short thing for me to lock in on I can lock in my concern about Keke tober is I believe that Kike is better in October than he is in the regular season but better than terrible sometimes only gets you up to bad and and last year that's what we saw like with Kike's offense last year Kike was not good in the post season last

year had a big hit off Christopher Sanchez but overall it wasn't Keke tober offensive less offensively last year. Keke tober was manifest almost entirely in defense last year and I think that's because he was terrible terrible because he was hurt probably still hurt so he went from terrible to bad in the post season and so yes I believe in Keke tober because there's a logical explanation so I don't believe in the mystical side of it I believe in the logical explanation and I don't think it's enough to turn bad Kike into good Kike. Yeah that doesn't sound like a lot like I'm the ADD thing I don't know I that I would hear that and be like I'm sorry that that's not moving the needle for me at all as an explanation. Having like a I think a baseball game and it's not a game but when you're doing that at bat over and over and over again over the long season you know it's I I can totally believe a guy like

Keke being like oh it's July I got to do this for three more months whereas in October it's like oh this game like we we got to win today there are no win we got to win today games when you're a Dodger in the regular season. Yeah and there's almost every game in October is it we got to win today game and I think Keke can focus better on a game like that. Okay. Richie chiming in five dollars super chat Dodgers use these games to audition roster considerations Padres needed dig deep to clench the speaks volumes on where both teams are. So agreeing we'd look at you Jeff you and Richie agreeing that the Dodgers were auditioning for roster considerations desperation on one side no desperation on the other so it's the typical Jeff Snyder and Richard Flores perfect agreement. Yeah that we Richie and I were like this you know like constantly just completing each other sandwiches you know everything. I am Donovan who I think told me on Twitter he wasn't going to watch tonight we appreciate the super chat that Donovan for chiming in he said why are they running Freddy's wheelchair out there instead of resting him for this week and next this is the interesting conversation.

For the Dodgers over the next three days because they play three games against the Giants then they're going to get essentially a week off and the rest versus rest we're going to get to debate that for for 10 days which I'm sure will be thrilling content for lots of people but how would you handle Jeff there's lots of guys like Freddy Freeman being one. Who man it sure seems like a couple days off his feet will do him good and at the same time you're going to get a week off once these three games are finished. But you also don't want guys getting hit by the pitch hit by a pitch on the hand or sliding weird or having a guy like how do you navigate I we only have three more games and we have a week off versus we have nothing left to play for. I think your best chance of getting good Freddy in October is letting Freddy swing his way out of the sun by the way Freddy was one of three Dodgers to get a hit tonight. All three of them had multiple hits Freddy went two for four tonight you know. Still no power and he acknowledges that but yeah that your best chance of getting Freddy is to let him swing his way out of it so I expect him to be in the lineup at least two of the three games this weekend and probably all three and then he can rest his aching body that's why you get the five days off rest the aching body but get in the back going as much more important than getting his knee feeling better or whatever and obviously there's a lot of things going on.

Probably related but yeah I think he's got a swing his way out of it yeah excuse me Glenn E. She don't dollar 99 super chat Paveta's curve ball was hitable if looked for I actually thought Paveta pitch pretty well tonight. The Dodgers did him some favors but I think all in all he was better than Robbie were he was last night which is a little bar I suppose. Yeah and they had a quick hook with him I was really that one inning Dodgers didn't get any runs in in the inning but they got the pitch count way up what was the fourth inning that suddenly he went from kind of cruising to cruising but with the very high pitch count and yeah they kind of threatened like it was the first inning Mookie had a one out double and the third inning they had runners on first and second with two outs and the fifth inning they had runners on first and third with two outs so they were kind of like stacking some traffic. And just again not but the pitch count wasn't doing much until that fourth inning and that's when it's like oh we might actually get him out of here because I think he was still you know averaging 15 14 or 15 pitches and ining through the first three innings and I'm going based off memory I don't remember exactly but then suddenly is I think it's 73 pitches after for it in so suddenly it's like oh when hour like 18 pitches and ining and and then it's like well now we're looking at probably five innings at the most for them didn't even get through the fifth.

And that in general that's the Dodgers approach and it works for them you know you get the starting pitcher out obviously it doesn't work as well against the Padres because they have a great bullpen you know I doubt the Dodgers play the Padres in October if so they they'll need to score some runs off these starting pitchers while they're driving up their pitch counts that's going to be important but I think most of the time that you're driving up the pitch count you are also putting up runs it just wasn't that case tonight. Dirty Dawn Super Chat once I know what time the Padres parade is tomorrow and also Shohei is back so yeah I mean look again I was I was very encouraged by the last two days from Shohei Otoni bat speed exit velocity plate discipline I think we're starting it's not perfect but anybody who expected it to be perfect in his first two games back I think had unrealistic expectations so Jason with the Super Chat 100 tie bot we appreciate sometimes it felt like the Dodgers. Prefer the current playoff bracket playing the winners between Phillies and Braves rather than the Cubs and the Padres the hard part is I mean that 4 through 6 is such a cluster at the moment that trying to figure out who is going to be in that six spots to play the Braves.

Good luck is what I would say good luck. Yeah I actually said in the discord the other day before the first game of the series Dodgers lose in the series actually drastically reduces the chances that they play the Padres in the post season. Because right now it will be Padres Cubs and the winner of that series would take on the Brewers so the Podgers have to get through the Cubs and the Brewers based on the current standings to get to the Dodgers in the NLCS. So I don't think that thought ever even crossed the Dodgers mine because I don't think the Dodgers are afraid of the Padres or the Cubs or the Brewers or the Phillies or the whoever the other team is Braves. Anyway I don't think the Dodgers are afraid of any team they're not out there like trying to pick and choose who they're going to play against. They just you know they are focused on the big picture but yeah I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily. Just for like I'm not afraid of the Dodgers playing the Padres I just don't like when the Dodgers play the Padres.

I find the atmosphere at Petco Park boring and fake you know I I just don't I don't want to watch any Padres playoffs games this year and I don't have to if they don't play the Dodgers. Current standings Padres have the foreseed one game lead over the Cubs who have a one game lead over the Phillies who have a two game lead over Arizona. So while the Padres have clinched Arizona is still in play for the postseason two games back of the Phillies unlikely obviously with three games to go but so to your point the Padres a lot would have to go wrong for them to slip into that six seed and it does feel like Cubs Phillies and I guess a very very very outside chance of the Diamondbacks being the teams that are kind of sitting in that six seed to play against the Braves. Yeah the Phillies did lose Luis Arise today with a similar injury to what Freddie Freeman suffered at the end of 2024.

So Freddie didn't miss any playoff games but also it was a little earlier in the season though was it the last weekend I know it was. Yeah I don't remember but he looked really bad when he came back. Yeah yeah he was terrible for the first couple series like I still remember the comments on my old show just every night in YouTube why the like why are the Dodgers still wheeling out Freddie Freeman's wheelchair you know and then turns out Freddie Freeman figured it out I believe in Freddie Freeman to figure it out but yeah Luis Arise is not Freddie Freeman and that could impact things for them the Phillies are kind of going through it right now I don't think they're going to drop out of the playoffs. But then they have to take on the Braves and the post season I guess I'd probably I know I usually don't say this I'd probably be rooting for the Phillies in that series um I think they're still a good pitching though so yeah it's it's gonna come down to the Dodgers hit good pitching um Phillies have lost two in a row Diamondbacks of one five in a row again Diamondbacks two games behind the Phillies

With three games to go and I suppose if the Diamondbacks somehow scraped their way into the postseason Obviously they would finish behind the Padres so um there really isn't a world where the Padres would fall the way down to the six seed Because it would probably involve the Diamondbacks somehow sneaking their way ahead of the Phillies so um music to my ears Excuse me music to my ears too early for this I know but If the Dodgers were to get eliminated in the first or second round of the playoffs who do you see not coming back next season I think to ask her Nandez is the first name on everybody's lips Just because it's like how do you where do you find a place for a hostway to Paul it's a play and you know obviously Hostway to Paul and Mike's road and Mike's road as gonna say he's not the only outfielder that seems to be banging down the door um So you know it feels like that's one answer is is there anybody else that you feel like Well Yeah, there will be people who aren't back but not because of how they do in the postseason

Yeah, I absolutely believe Miguel Rojas is really retiring. Yeah, uh he so he won't be back KK is a big Question mark for me because KK Like I know he brings the vibes Uh He doesn't bring much else right now. He brings good defense, but you know I feel like KK is it because he's just under contract this year right yeah, it's a one year deal Yeah, and so I think KK it's gonna be like okay if you want to come back for 1.2 million We'll think about it, but you know you're not Right you're not a high paid player anymore if you want to come be a utility guy who gets paid hardly anything Let's talk yeah But I think it's also the other one they contract Yeah, and maybe they wait until spring training again so they don't have to waste a 40-man roster spot during the offseason Yeah, so KK is a interesting one for me and obviously Kiktober could change that yeah if if he has a

Because last year like I say he wasn't healthy last year if he's healthy this year and has a classic Kiktober Then maybe you can actually say okay the value is there in October So we're willing to pay him 1.4 million instead of 1.2 But yeah, I think Kik is an interesting one to watch for sure and black travel and then yeah, try to Is some of the guys in the bullpen It's interesting because obviously you see a guy like Alex Freeland who Feels destined to fill the Miguel Rojas role for the next couple of years on a league minimum contract with some minor league options But there isn't like an obvious guy to sit next to him in the KK Hernandez role necessarily So that's where I think yeah, maybe they just bring Kik back for the vibes and for a guy who's just gonna You know hit in October when they need him to and can play defense in the outfield and the infield and all of those types of things but Yeah, it's as you said it's early for that um before we close Jeff I do want to get to some comments that Dave Roberts made pregame because I found them to be particularly interesting

They survive they surround it excuse me the idea that Dalton rushing is expected to be activated tomorrow This was news that we got in conjunction with hostway to Paula getting sent down and which brought up lots of questions Because I think a number of people on on our show was under the under the impression that Dalton rushing season was over That maybe the Dodgers were placating him by letting him believe that maybe he had a chance But then potentially the Dodgers had just said look you came back you were injured you came back you were terrible Then you got injured again and we're just gonna try this whole experiment again with three games left in the regular season for what purpose? Well the Dodgers are doing it um Dave Roberts says at most he's going to get three up at one pinch hit opportunity per game at most again If that's the case why the heck is hostway to Paula not on the roster but neither here nor there um Dave was asked about that. He said the circumstances of Dalton such situations tough to be hurt to be backed and to be heard again Then to take three pinch hits at bats potentially and then to say hey, you're on the roster But what he has done for us this year certainly deserves some consideration

So I think that's kind of giving him the respect and the thoughtfulness of what he's done for us Then he was follow follow up question. How much do you um way the track record versus these three at bats And he said it's a small track record But it's a good track record We bake all of that in and regardless It's a tougher conversation Because there's also the component of having a guy that can run off the bench So it's not just the left-handed bad off the bench So there's some other nuanced conversations that need to happen Do you think you can afford to have the luxury of a guy who is purely a pinch runner given that you don't have the otani rule this year Otani is not pitching and he said we do have that luxury Because it's probably a different conversation if we're fortunate enough to get into the next round CS in a five-game series It's not as much of a conversation as the need as far as the need for extra pitching So a lot in there where hey Dalton rushing has earned this opportunity because it's a small sample size But it's a good sample size and then at the same time Yeah, we might just take a guy who's only a pinch runner because we're not going to need all of our pictures anyways

Like there's a ton to sort through here in my opinion Yeah, I believe None of this changes my firm belief that the Dodgers are already 99.99% sure that Dalton rushing is not playing in the postseason I think this is purely to Give him a vote of confidence tell him we believe in you you're a big part of our future blah blah blah You've earned this right to to come back and see what you can do I think if he went three for three with three 480 foot home runs That's your point zero zero one percent chance. I might have missed a zero there um, I don't think there's anything else he could do that's going to make them think Okay, yeah, he's a better option the whole sweet appallant right now. I just don't see it I'm with you. I just Again, maybe the psychological Pat on the back that you're discussing is a real thing. It just makes no sense to me

Like if you're going to give this guy a pinch hit at bat every single game from here on out and have no intention of him being on the postseason roster It doesn't make sense to me those two things don't add up in my mind and I just don't see the harm in it I you know and I know a lot of people say why don't they just have them have Tommy John surgery already If he doesn't need Tommy John surgery, there's no reason for him to have Tommy John surgery, you know And so he's playing he's healthy enough to swing a bat so it's either Have JDP get those three pinch hit at bats and have rushing hitting for triple a for Oklahoma City in the playoffs or vice versa And I I'm fine either way. I think that you know this way you are telling him you're a big part of our major league future And he is he is absolutely a huge part of the dodgers future And so he gets to be back on the roster. He gets to be a part of this and And technically theoretically have a chance to earn a spot on the post-rear roster. It's not gonna happen But if he goes two for three how can you look him in the face and give him that vote of confidence?

Hey, we want to give you a chance and then he goes two for three and say sorry. We're good. We're gonna go with Like to be it's like you risk that's why Dave Robert said You know there's Not that much he can do in three at bats and so So how is that a vote of confidence? Well because we care about you. We think you're good and we want you It's I think it's a different vote of confidence than you know You're a part of us winning the 2026 world series It's you're a part of us winning the 2027 and 2028 world series and and so come be a part of this 2026 team, you know, you're gonna be at the parade. I want you To to get a big hit for us in the last game of the regular season So that that's the taste in your mouth at the parade and you can't wait for more next year Hmm. Do you think his son Kim's gonna be on the roster? I do think you will for the for the NLDS. I think they go 12 pictures and I think they put KMN to fall on the roster

Yeah, yeah, it sure seems that's the way it's heading out um again, it's like I generally agree with you that the decisions have already been made As far as De Paula Kim rushing all of those types of things. I don't think the Dodgers are like Hinging all their their decisions on what happens on September 25th 6 and 7th against the giants after everything in English games. Yeah um I just it's the roster decisions that they have made that again, I understand that there are like Arguments that could be made and you have made them they're just not um compelling to me If you if you truly are going to put Hostway to Paula on this roster like I just laughed yesterday when it was like Well the Dodgers did this because if they send him down now Then that means he can come back up and I was just like you know what else they could have done to make sure he was eligible for the playoff roster Just kept him they could have done that too It's like I'm not to do the one thing to make the other possible when it was all Slight of hand. I don't know it just I'm not even totally sure that that that that other reasoning is accurate because

I'm Like 97% sure that once the regular season ends There is no more option like everybody is just on the 40-mile roster again. I I'm not I'm not versus Katie Wu just in public right here and let's go And you know she's probably right I said you are 97% certain I know I know that's the duality of Jeff Uh, I've been probably right 99% I've been reading through the CBA. I've been reading through all the different rules trying to find it And yeah, it does say that when you get option you have to be down for 10 days But it also says that when the regular season ends Everyone who has been optioned is recalled because now there's just the 40-mile roster. So I I don't know that If he got sent down today that would have met he wasn't eligible to start the post. I don't know I don't really think that was a huge consideration. I think it was show heo tawny is coming back

And we want Hosue to Paula to get a bunch of at-bats Yeah, yeah It is working out for them. I will say that the fact that Oklahoma City one last night the fact that Oklahoma City one tonight the fact that they will get to continue playing um, it is all It's playing out the way that they wanted odds may have not said that that was going to be the case And ironically, Hosue to Paula has not been the reason that Oklahoma City is winning But he is getting it bats down there And so maybe although he's getting played appearances not at bats because they're walking him Well, I had two. I think it was one for four. I don't know if he walked tonight. Did he? Oh, I don't know about tonight. I know yesterday he walked just ahead of James Tibz's three run homer Yeah, last night on four pitches. Oh for three with two walks And I believe tonight was one for four again. I do not care one lick He was two for five. Sorry. He came up at the end of the game and got another hit so two for five Double in his last step back. So good for him Um, Mike soroda by the way one for two with three walks

Obviously, he is I'm excited about Mike soroda next year It's he's brand I mean, this is his first taste of AAA as well. He's sitting two seventy three So far in this small sample size so hey, I have an update on something we talked about earlier and a trivia question for you Okay, I'm ready for So of the the giant's 26 man roster. Oh, yeah I overestimated how many of them have played in double a this year. It's only eight Okay, but the number of players on the current giants roster who have not played in the minor leagues this year Is one can you tell me who the one player is on the current giants roster who has not played in the minors this year? Uh, I don't even know who's hurt like his Logan web still hurt. Is he healthy? Logan web's hurt Uh, him which are on the right track Uh, Matt Chapman's hurt. He's out for the season. Oh uh I'm spacing on one of their starters. Is it it's a starting picture? Yeah, land in roope. Okay. There you go

Landon roope is the only Player on the giants active roster who has not been in the minor leagues this year in addition to the eight who've played in double a There's also three or four who've played actually lower than double a But like one guy spent a couple games in rookie ball and one of a couple games in low a so probably rehab stuff But like the eight in double a spent like they were actually in double a crazy That's what we will end this show. I'm going to read to you every active position player on the 26 man roster These are real major league players for the San Francisco giants their catchers are Drew Kavanaugh and Andrew Knisner Kisner. Yeah, Kisner. Drew Kavanaugh is one of the ones who did play in double a this year by the way. Yeah, that makes sense Uh Oslevis Vesabi Brett Harris Christian cost Marcelo Meyer and Shay Whitcom Scott Bandura Victor Barricotto Jonah Cox bow David's and Drew Gilbert Turner Hill and Grant McKay the only two players I've heard of on that list are Drew Gilbert and Marcelo Meyer

Because they were once huge prospects that have entirely flamed out I have not heard of any of those other players short of the Dodgers having just played the giants Okay, I was gonna say like you should have heard most of those names, but uh Yeah, if you looked at baseball reference, you know how baseball reference puts their starters and then the the non starters below Only two of the guys who qualify as starters for the giants this year are on the current roster and that's Drew Kavanaugh and Drew Gilbert And Drew Kavanaugh is the starter catcher with 160 played appearances That is their uh Their most frequently actually Daniel Susak has one more played appearance before fewer games So I guess they go by games played, but uh, yeah, they have used a bunch of different catchers The pictures are just as bad Tristan Beck. Well, Duncan David Jason Folley Trent Harris Sam Hanks is Joel Kunl junior Marta Anthony Molina says our perdomo land and roo p Braxton rocks B Carson C more Dylan Smith and Matt Wilkinson

Talk about your boy. They're just not a whole lot of people That are major league players on that on that roster Jason with one more super chat here sounds like Hulsway to Paul's getting the Hottani treatment in AAA um Yeah, I mean he just also his plate discipline. He's just facing crappy He creates his own iconic treatment. Yeah, yeah So Well, Swede Apollo would have would have walked in Teosker Hernandez first about this morning. There this evening Uh on that note that is gonna do it for us here on the all Dodgers podcasts We appreciate over 500 people in here live with us again the good news the Dodgers clinch the number two seed By the way, we didn't get into it But some good at Gardo and Rikas news as well. It does sound like there is um a reasonable chance that he could be back By the NLDS based on some comments that that Dave Roberts made today as well So um, I'm sure we'll have some time to get into that in the coming days That is Jeff Snyder. I am Jeff Spiegel. Again. This is the all Dodgers podcasts part of the believe podcast network presented by fandal Enjoy the rest of your night as always go Dodgers and yes still champs
