CHAPTER VII It happened in the days of Ahaz the Son of Jotham, the Son of Uzaya, King of Judah, that resin, the King of Syria, and pecca, the Son of Ramalia, King of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it. It was told the House of David, saying, Syria is allied with Ephraim. His heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind. Then the Lord said to Isaiah, Go out now to meet Ahaz, you, and shear just shove your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway of the fullers field. Tell him, be careful and keep calm. Don't be afraid, neither let your heart be faint because of these two tales of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of resin in Syria, and of the Son of Ramalia. Because Syria, Ephraim, and the Son of Ramalia have plotted evil against you, saying,

let's go up against Judah and tear it apart, and let's divide it among ourselves, and set up a king in the midst of it, even the Son of Tabiel. This is what the Lord God says, it shall not stand, neither shall it happen. For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is resin, and within 65 years Ephraim shall be broken in pieces, so that it shall not be a people. In the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Ramalia's son. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established. The Lord spoke again to Ahaz saying, ask a sign of the Lord your God. Yet either in the depth, or in the height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord. He said, listen now, House of David, is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God also? Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign.

Behold, the Virgin will conceive in Barassan, and shall call his name Emmanuel. He shall eat butter and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil, and choose the good. For before the child knows to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you have hores shall be forsaken. The Lord will bring on you, on your people, and on your father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah, even the king of Assyria. It will happen in that day that the Lord will whistle for the fly that is in the utter most parts of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. They shall come, and shall all rest in the desolate valleys and the clefts of the rocks, on all thorn hedges, and on all pastures. In that day the Lord will shade with a razor that is hired in the parts beyond the river, even with the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet, and it shall also consume

the beard. It shall happen in that day that a man shall keep alive a young cow and two sheep, and it shall happen that because of the abundance of milk which they shall give he shall eat butter, for everyone will eat butter and honey that is left in the midst of the land. It will happen in that day that every place where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silver sheckles shall be for briars and thorns. People will go there with arrows and with bow, because all the land will be briars and thorns. All the hills that were cultivated with the hoe, you shall not come there for fear of briars and thorns, but it shall be for the sinning forth of oxen and for the treading of sheep. CHAPTER VIII The Lord said to me, take a large tablet and ride on it with a man's pen, for my hair shall al-Hashbaz, and I will take to me faithful witnesses to record, who rye the priest, and Zachariah the son of Jabbarakaya.

I went to the prophetess, and she conceived in Borosan. Then the Lord said to me, call his name, my hair shall al-Hashbaz. For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, my father and my mother, the riches of Damascus, and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria. The Lord spoke to me yet again, saying, because this people have refused the waters of Shailo that go softly, and rejoice in resin and Ramalia's son. Now therefore behold, the Lord brings up on them the waters of the river, strong in many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory, and it shall come up over all its channels and go over all its banks, and it shall sweep, onward into Judah, it shall overflow and pass through, it shall reach even to the neck, and the stretching out of its wings shall fill the breadth of your land, he manual. Make an uproar, O you peoples, and be broken in pieces, and give ear all of you far

countries, gird yourselves and be broken in pieces, gird yourselves and be broken, take counsel together, and it shall be brought to nothing, speak the word, and it shall not stand for God is with us. For the Lord spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people saying, don't you say a conspiracy concerning all where of this people say a conspiracy, neither fear their fear nor be in dread of it. The Lord of host him shall you sanctify, and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. He shall be for a sanctuary, but for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of offence, to boat the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Many shall stumble thereon, and fall and be broken, and be snared and be taken. Bind up the testimony, still the law among my disciples. I will wait for the Lord, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for

him. Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are for signs, and for wonders in Israel, from the Lord of host to dwells in Mount Zion. When they shall tell you, consult with those who have familiar spirits and with the wizards who chirp and who mutter, shouldn't that people consult with their God. On behalf of the living should they consult with the dead, to the law and to the testimony. If they don't speak according to this word, surely there is no mourning for them. They shall pass through it, soar distressed and hungry, and it shall happen that when they shall be hungry they shall fret themselves, and curse by their king and by their God, and turn their faces upward, and they shall look to the earth and see, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish, and into thick darkness they shall be driven away. Chapter 9 But there shall be no gloom to her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought in to contempt the land of Zebulan, and the land of Naftalae,

but in the latter time he has he made it glorious, by the way of the sea beyond Jordan, the valley of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light, those who lived in the land of the shadow of death, on them has the light shined. You have multiplied the nation, you have increased their joy. They joy before you, according to the joy and harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. For the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as in the day of Midian. For all the armor of the armed man in the tumult, and the garments rolled in blood shall be forburning, for fuel for fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government shall be on his shoulder, and his name shall be called wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on the throne of

David, and on his kingdom to establish it, and to uphold it with justice, and with righteousness from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it has lighted on Israel. All the people shall know, even Ephraim in the inhabitant of Samaria, who say in pride in an arrogance of heart, the bricks are fallen, but we will build with hewn stone. The sycamores are cut down, but we will put cedars in their place. Therefore the Lord will set up on high against him, the adversaries of resin, and will stir up his enemies. The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind, and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them. Neither have they sought the Lord of hosts. Therefore the Lord will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm-branson rush in one day.

The elder and the honorable man he is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies he is the tail. For those who lead this people cause them to air, and those who are led of them are destroyed. Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men. Neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows, for everyone is profane and an evil doer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. For wickedness burns as the fire, it devours the briars and thorns, yes it kindles in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts is the land burned up, and the people are as the fuel of fire, no man spares his brother. One shall snatch on the right hand and be hungry, and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied. They shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm. Manasse, Ephraim, and Ephraim, manasse, and they together shall be against Judah.

For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. Proverbs Chapter 13 A wise son listens to his father's instruction, but a scoffer doesn't listen to rebuke. By the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful crave violence. He who guards his mouth guards his soul, one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. The soul of the sluggard desires and has nothing, but the desire of the diligence shall be fully satisfied. A righteous man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace. Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner. There are some who pretend to be rich yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor yet have great wealth. The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.

The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. Pride only breeds quarrels, but with ones who take advice is wisdom. Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled it is a tree of life. Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded. The teaching of the wise is a spring of life to turn from the snares of death. Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful is hard. Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly. A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing. Every enshrined shame comes to him who refuses discipline, but he who heats correction shall be honored. Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.

One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. Miss Fortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous. A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. An abundance of food is in poor people's fields, but in justice sweeps it away. One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is careful to discipline him. The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry. Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany of the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. The sisters therefore sent to him saying, Lord, behold he for whom you have great affection is sick. But when Jesus heard it, he said, this sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God,

that God's son may be glorified by it. Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister in Lazarus. When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was. Then after this he said to the disciples, let's go into Judea again. The disciples told him, rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you, and are you going there again? Jesus answered, aren't there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day he doesn't stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if a man walks in the night he stumbles, because the light isn't in him. He said these things, and after that he said to them, our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep. The disciples therefore said, Lord, if he has fallen asleep he will recover. Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest and sleep. So Jesus said to them plainly then, Lazarus is dead. I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe.

Nevertheless, let's go to him. Thomas, therefore who is called didimus, said to his fellow disciples, let's go also that we may die with him. So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen steady away. Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. Then when Martha and her that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house. Therefore Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn't have died. Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you. Jesus said to her, your brother will rise again. Martha said to him, I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection. He who believes in me, though he die yet will he live. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die.

Do you believe this? She said to him, yes, Lord, I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God's Son, he who comes into the world. When she had said this, she went away and called Mary, her sister secretly saying, the teacher is here and he is calling you. When she heard this, she arose quickly and went to him. Now Jesus had not yet come into the village but was in the place where Martha met him. Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her when they saw Mary that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her saying, she is going to the tomb to weep there. Therefore, when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn't have died. When Jesus therefore saw her weeping and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit and was troubled and said, where have you laid him? They told him, Lord, come and see Jesus wept.

The Jews therefore said, see how much affection he had for him. Some of them said, couldn't this man who opened the eyes of him who was blind have also kept this man from dying? Jesus therefore again groaning in himself came to the tomb. Now it was a cave and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, take away the stone. Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, Lord, by this time there is a stench for he has been dead for days. Jesus said to her, didn't I tell you that if you believed you would see God's glory? So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, Father, I thank you that you listened to me. I know that you always listened to me, but because of the multitude that stands around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me. When he had said this he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come out. He who was dead came out bound head and foot with wrappings and his face was wrapped around

with a cloth. Jesus said to them, free him and let him go. And for many of the Jews who came to marry and saw what Jesus did believed in him. But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done. The chief priest therefore in the Pharisees gathered a council and said, what are we doing for this man does many signs. If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year said to them, you know nothing at all. Nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people and that the whole nation not perish. Now he didn't say this of himself, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day forward they took council that they might put him to death.

Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed from there into the country near the wilderness to a city called Ephraim. He stayed there with his disciples. Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves. Then they sought for Jesus and spoke one with another as they stood in the temple. What do you think that he isn't coming to the feast at all? Now the chief priest and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it that they might see him.
