Florida Gators’ powerhouse rushing attack faces its toughest challenge yet as they travel to Missouri to battle the Missouri Tigers and Eli Drinkwitz. Can Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark keep their explosive run game rolling, or will Missouri’s disciplined defense finally slow them down? With Florida’s offense averaging 52 points per game and Aaron Philo executing efficiently, all eyes are on whether Missouri can make the Gators one-dimensional.
Brandon Olsen and John Miller break down key matchups, from Austin Simmons’ risk-taking arm and Missouri’s stout pass protection to the Gators’ inconsistent secondary. The hosts examine each team’s quarterback strengths, discuss crucial injuries, and debate the game’s over/under in a high-stakes SEC clash. Can Missouri’s home crowd rattle the Gators, or will Florida’s firepower prove unstoppable on the road?

Welcome in to Locked-On Gators Locked-On Mizzou. I'm Brandon Olson. This is John Miller. John, you think of a pretty intense intro to your show? It slaps pretty hard, doesn't it? It's not Mizzou. Good. I was going to say, you're a wake in the morning. You listen to my podcast. There's no question. Yeah, I'm not complaining at all. I press play and I was like, oh, that's pretty intense.
My listeners have no idea what I'm talking about. But you're a listener's get it. But John, we haven't done one of these in a few years now. Which thank goodness. I don't have to talk about a billionaire. If you're a lead team anymore, Austin Simmons, of course, obvious Florida tie. Our Eli Drinkwitz was an aim that Florida Gators fans, some Florida Gators fans really wanted when Florida fired Billy Napier. Thank goodness that one didn't happen. I think he's a D-Bag. I'll say that's how it's going. Oh, hey. Oh, sorry. Sorry. Sorry. We're getting personal here early in the show, Mike. Oh, yeah. No professionalism just out the window. I love it. Oh, you should have seen last week. This is the closest to respect alpha's I'm getting. John, what are Missouri Tigers fans thinking about as they head into this game? I think what I'm thinking about is I'm just wondering how good this Missouri team really is. And I'm also wondering, gosh, we just played America's team last week. It felt like now we're playing America's team in Florida.
Just feels like we'll get into the fandall thing in a minute. Four and a half points. Missouri's the underdog here at home on its own homecoming. I think the entire public, your betting public is going to be your square better, if you will. I'm going to be on Florida. I just think that's that's going to be the sentiment right now. I think a lot of Missouri fans are kind of feeling that too or feeling a little bit beaten down. I don't think we should go too far with it. The Tigers really have a chance here, but I'm mostly curious about just how good Florida is if Missouri really has a chance here. Yeah, I think for me, a lot of it's going to come down to how Florida travels in this one. I've been very open about it. I don't think this is going to be a game where Florida has a large fan presence. Like Auburn, Jordan and Hare Stadium became Benho Griffin, Jr. Like that's what that became. I'm Missouri, that's not going to be the case. I've been open. I don't think Florida is going to travel for this one. Well, it's a hassle to get to the stadium and to the town. And of course, there's Auburn.
There's Missouri and Florida playing the SEC East all those years too. I've got to thank if you wanted to make that Gainesville or wherever Florida took Columbia to journey or maybe you're just a Florida person who happens to live in Illinois or St. Louis or whatever. You probably made that journey before. So there's definitely some truth to that. Yeah. And so I think looking into this one, the big question going into Auburn is how are they going to take, how are they going to handle the road? Right? How is Aaron father going to handle the road? And again, that didn't really feel like a road game. I think this one will feel like a road game. So it's about handling that. It's about how Florida is going to just show up for the travel. This is, I believe the longest they're going, or the furthest that they're going to travel for a game. But for me, I look at Missouri's defense and that's, I am, we spoke a little bit about this before reporting. I'm just so curious to know what Missouri's run defense is actually going to look like. Because Arkansas Pine Bluff, obviously you guys are way better than them. Kansas, obviously you guys are way better than them. Troy, obviously you guys are way better than them.
Even though that one was, was closer than I think I've already anticipated. So feel like that was just one of those games. It's like, it's college, things get weird sometimes. And then Mississippi State, they're offense. It doesn't translate to every team. I like you guys play Tennessee, sure that could translate Auburn, sure that can translate. But when you compare Mississippi State to Florida, I think that they're just so stylistically different that I don't think we've really seen what Missouri's going to be. I agree. And yeah, certainly Florida, more of a conventional style offense than Mississippi State for sure. So I actually think in a way that's good for Missouri. I think when it has more of a conventional run at rushing attack to face as an opposition, I actually think that's good for the Tigers. I think they play pretty fundamental football. I think they'll be in their gaps. But you know, like seems to be a problem throughout the country. Tigers aren't tackling particularly well. And that's something that fluff, fluff, Bothwell for Mississippi State, exploited and key downs over and over again, where not
just with the run, but with the swing pass, just simple, hey, let's throw it into him in the flat. And we don't think a corner can stop him from gaining five yards. And more often than not, they were right. Yeah, that's always a tough one for 190 pound corners. I have to go up again. 100% of the Bothwell's like 2.30. I mean, he's just, he's going to fall forward every single time. Yeah, I mean, honestly, I thought Jeff LeBee, the whole outfit there did a great job of making Missouri defend absolutely everything, not just the usual handoffs and deep shots that that type of offense is known for. But again, mixing in the the quarterback run, the dump offs and even, you know, play actions, just a little more intermediate over the linebackers too. Yeah, I think making Missouri work is going to be very important. I mentioned earlier, Austin Simmons, there's of course that Florida tie one time, Florida commit, then went to Ole Miss and then Missouri and now lighting it up, right?
11 touchdowns, never nurse happens. Has I will say when watching the film, I knew going into the film, there was 11 touchdowns, no pigs. I feel like the ball was in danger way more than I would think for someone that has no pigs yet. I feel like someone would have made him pay because I feel like there were quite a few passes here. I was like out, that was insane to attempt, which I mean, like he's got a, I'm going to call it arm arrogance where he can make any throw, which kudos to you at times. That's going to work out sometimes, you're going to get forced to pay for it. Sure. I will say, I think you're 100% right. I think he's still finding the line because at times you see absolutely beautiful anticipation, great arm strength, everything you want to see from a pocket passer. And like you say, the arrogance there may be trusted a little too much at times. I'm actually okay with that. To me, it's the old thing of what is it? It's easier to break a fast horse than to get a slow one to run that type of thing. I like that he's not afraid to throw the ball into tight windows as a guy with a relative
young amount of experience. I think sometimes that scares the Missouri coaching staff a little bit, to be honest. Understandably so. But I truly think, again, just let him go. I think let him run and see what happens. I think not only is that good for Missouri in the long term, I think it's good for Missouri in the short term too, because right now this looks like a team that's okay. They look like kind of an average middle of the pack SEC team. If we're going to be better than that, the last two thirds of the season, I think you got to let Austin Simmons go and that that increases your upside. Yeah. I think Austin said that arm is ridiculous. The ability to be arrogant is awesome. Sure. Let me say one more thing, Brandon. I will say I agree with you. There's a few balls for sure that could have been intercepted. There's no doubt. At times, and I'll say this is somebody who's watched the Kansas City Chiefs for years now, when you've got a great arm, when you throw the ball like a laser beam, those tend to not be caught as often. That is another plus of having good arms strength is tend to get a little bit more
lucky on those dropped interceptions too. Yeah. It's hard for receivers to catch some of those. Yeah. Let alone a guy who's just turning his head. That's a little middle line back or right. Yeah. Let alone the guy where they have the saying, oh, well, you know, that's why he plays the country back. Exactly. Because he doesn't have good hands. And it's just pain. But again, I think it's big. I would much rather have a quarterback that is willing to take risks than a quarterback's risk of hers. Like I would rather have, let's say the physical is everything the same. I'd rather have someone with like an Austin Simmons mentality, like for Florida state, like a grandma. It's like, I want someone that's going to at least you're going to turn the ball over. And you haven't been forced to pay yet. So I think that's, I think that's awesome for him. But he's someone that's just going into it. I was watching the game. It was a floor you got to come away with one of them. Like, or mine, it was like someone has to come away with one of them against Austin Simmons in this one. We are going to talk about the keys to victory when we get back with locked on gators and locked on misery.
Toyota, let's go places. Welcome to the most rewarding NFL season ever only on Fandall How are we talking? Well, more rewarding than a touchdown with time expiring. And John Miller, we've got a doozy of again this weekend. What is your biggest A, Missouri's got to do this if they want to end? I'm assuming we all know probably of the first answer. But what is the biggest key to victory for the Missouri Tigers? Well, of course, I assume you're alluding to stopping Jaden Ball to some extent. Just defensively, I think simply put, you got to make Florida one dimensional. If you're if if Aaron Filos going to be able to pass the ball, more in trouble, I think, I think that's ultimately kind of what happened last week defensively. I think the Tigers hung in there pretty well. But being down a couple of edge rushers to the depth was just challenged. By the fourth quarter, it felt like the Missouri defense had worn out a little bit. And of course, the offense just was was out executed by by Mississippi State's offense. It was simply put. So, you know, I think, yeah, that on that side of the ball, I think that's the key. And again, yeah, just unleashing Austin Simmons.
And hopefully the Tigers can be too dimensional on its side of the ball. If they're able to run the ball and throw the ball effectively, as they have been able to at times, yeah, that's I think that's the key there. And speaking of hopefully being too dimensional, just I assume we know the answer to this. No mod heart, he's still for the Missouri Tigers. What is the latest on that out of curious? That's just me being curious. What's the latest on the mod heart? No, yeah, totally understandable question. Yeah, for all you Florida fans, he's definitely out this week, definitely out for at least another couple weeks or so at the very, very least, because as Drake would say, he needs a couple weeks to ramp up. Right now there's really no update. He's with the team. He's rehabbing. He's just not ready to play football yet. I think for the Florida Gators on the flip side with, I was about to talk trash and talk about how Jayden Boss the best running back in the country, but I feel it's kind of mean to do that to him. It was a more fun discussion back in June. Do you like May June when we were going back and forth?
No, it's like, oh, I guess it was Jayden Boss. Okay, great. I don't like the win by default. I'm not Homer Simpson. The two greatest words are not default to me, Brandon. Yeah, I got a Simpsons reference. There we go. I was waiting for it. For those who don't know, John Miller will always have a Simpsons reference. Ready? The group chat. Half the time, it doesn't even say a word. He just sends Simpsons, GIF or meme. But I think for Florida's offense, I would love to see what's going to happen when it's a little weird. I would love to see what's going to happen when a team can stop Jayden Boss. But at this point, no one's made you do it. I don't think Aaron Filos done anything incredible. I think that he's done his job. He's quarterbacked in offense. And that's all I can really ask for. When you've had to make plays, you've made plays. But to this point, you haven't been asked to do anything extra. You haven't been asked to carry the team. What's that going to look like? But at the same time, I don't want to find out. Because that means that someone is stopping Jayden Boss somewhere along the way.
And Jayden Boss right now has 600 yards. 11 touchdowns, seven yards per carry right now. I think that that's going to be the key to victory in every single Florida game is going to be Jayden Boss keeping Jayden Boss things and Duke Clark. Yeah, that's interesting. What do you think Filos, Aaron Filos, the quarterback for Florida, of course? What do you think his strength? What's his biggest strength as a player? What's maybe his biggest weakness? I think so far, actually, when he was coming over from Georgia Tech, I had a bunch of questions about him. I still think that the biggest question I have is the ability to make downfield throws with SEC windows. Because it wasn't a thing he really had to do at Georgia Tech. 2025, he threw passes in one game and it was Gardner Web and he threw a pick. So at FCS opponent, you threw a pick downfield. So far, he's got two picks, neither one, his fault in any way. Jayden Boss, both hit receivers, popped up and got picked. But we haven't seen him have to make downfield throws yet in a tight window.
And there's been a couple of throws that we've seen him make. And I go, all right, that was a great throw, great ball. But am I confident that that gets through against an SEC defense? I don't really know yet. And so for Aaron, that's the biggest question that I still have. I think the way that he's handled just quarterbacking has been great. In a sense of there were times during the Ole Miss game. He's coming up to the line and he's making an adjustment as they're coming out of the huddle. He's walking up and he's telling people where to go and he's directing traffic. I think we've seen a few times where there were high snaps earlier in the year. And he fielded them. There was nothing to do. So he just took off running and picked up a yard or two, turned a negative seven yard play into a basically net neutral play there. And I think that just being smart has been his biggest thing. And that's all he's had to do. But you have an explosive rushing attack like this, an efficient passing attack with a smart quarterback. I feel like that's winning football. I said, I just need a point guard.
That's all I want from my quarterback. I just want you to be a point guard. That's funny. You say that because on my show all week, I've been saying how Missouri needs to get a little bit away from the point guard mentality of quarterback. I use that exact phrase because to me, that's been the entire Eli drink with his era basically. And don't get me wrong. There are times when of course Missouri has taken off. Has basically let Austin Simmons drop back and scan the field and throw the ball. To me, that's when Missouri is at its best. And there were at least a couple times when I thought, okay, Missouri's trying to win it on the chalkboard here instead of letting Austin Simmons win it. Like, hey, look at our clever little pick play here. Unfortunately, again, everything looks good on the chalkboard. The Mississippi state guy reads it goes under the pick. Even if our player gets his hands on him, that would have been a clear offensive pass in her parents anyway. But I just think that's interesting that you said that because you're kind of going, hey, all we need is a point guard here. And I'm kind of going really, Missouri has more than a point guard and they need to realize it,
in my opinion. Yeah, I think for me, and I feel the point guard thing, specifically about Florida. I think Buster Faulkner, way before Florida even hired him. I thought he was one of the best offense supporters in college football. I think you ever know, around the third. Maybe this weekend, we'll see what's going to go on with that, availability report. We'll see what happens pregame. I'd imagine he's going to be a game time decision with an e-strain there. You got Eric Singleton Jr. Hopefully full go this week that your John Sturmall said at least. Jayden Ballad, I think you have just so much talent at the skill positions that to just have a guy where it's just like, hey, all you have to do is get them the football. I think that's all that matters there. At least from Florida side of things. I am really interested to see if Florida's past rush can come alive in this one. We spoke about earlier, you know, Missouri's run defense, how they haven't really been given. Not even a true test because I don't want it to sound like that. I mean, it's not comparable to what you're going to see this schematically.
Sure. I feel pretty similar to that for Florida's past rush. The first week was Campbell. I was at FAU, Eric, get rid of the ball quick. Campbell, spread option, get rid of the ball quick. Then you had Auburn, Kyle Spread, same situation as Mississippi State. So not really relevant, not super translatable. Then you had Missouri where our Ole Miss, before Missouri where it's, hey, that's Trinidad Chamblis. We're not even going to really try to rush in that much because he does so much after, which I'm going to try to keep him in front. Didn't work by the way. Didn't work at all. But saying, hey, we're not going to try to rush in that much. This is the time where I think Florida will kind of go, all right. Maybe we let the Lee Shoff a little bit here. I would think so because obviously you want to pressure any quarterback. But Simmons, to me, from what I've seen so far, he's much better in the pocket than he is outside of it. Some quarterbacks are, of course, the opposite, especially a lot of young ones, or kind of, you know, used to using their superior athleticism in high school,
whatever it might be. I think that's kind of the opposite for Simmons. He's a bit of an unusual player in that way. So I agree with you. The good news is if you're a Missouri fan while at times the run blocking has been a little leaky and even the big holding penalties were on run plays. The crucial holding penalties were on run plays last week. Really, the Missouri pass protection. Been about as good as I could hope so far. Yeah, that was actually what I was about to bring up is that he has not been good under pressure, under pressure. He's four for 13 passing. But he's been under pressure so rarely that it's not many pressures. That's the fact. You guys have played four games. That's an average of what? Sure. For just for context, every single quarterback outside of maybe Patrick Mahomes and the absolute. Oh, yeah. I mean, they're all going to look pretty. Their numbers are all going to look bad under pressure. Let's not panic, Missouri fans. That's all. To your point, of course, you want to get him under pressure. Exactly. And we are going to talk about
who wins, who loses. I think we both know where we're going, but we're still going to do it. We get back. We're going to do it. Do it. I don't know. Actually, we'll find out when we get back with Lacton Gators, Lacton, Mizzou. To wrap up today's episode of Lacton Gators, Lacton, Mizzou. I am Brandon Olson. This is John Miller. John, I'm going to let the home team decide. Who goes first? I'm going to defer. I'm going to defer. That's what I'm going to do to the way to him. How about that? That's fair. That's fair. Hey, that's good strategy. Good strategy. Thank you. I think analytics analytics. I know. I've got a 52% chance to win now. Yeah, there we go. I'm taking Florida to win and frankly, cover this game. And we were talking before recording. And I was like, look, I feel like I feel more confident than I should. And that makes me a little nervous to feel that confident. But the way that I look at this game is honestly just,
I don't know who can stop Jaden Ball and this Russian attack ran. I do Clark had over 10 yards per carry last week and so on. And I think that having such a good run game with an efficient passing game, that's a very, that Aaron Filer through eight passes past the line of scrimmage last week or completed eight passes past the line of scrimmage last week. And they put up 52 points and they beat the number 14 in the country. 24 like they didn't have to do a lot there. I think having an offense that can live with screens where they have, I think it's like nine yards per catch on screens. And you have a one back with seven yards for carry, one back with eight yards for I think that's the kind of offense that you can bring into a road environment that's going to be probably pretty hostile. And that's where I get my comfort from here defensively. Who the hell knows what Florida's going to do this week. But offensively, I feel pretty good about them. That's kind of the interesting thing about this. You have to assume, especially with a, a raucous home crowd is certainly a kickoff as long as Missouri is in this game.
It's going to be a really good crowd. I don't think there's any question about that in a tough place to play. But the most interesting thing about this, it's almost like the strategy's obvious. The Tigers are going to commit some people in the box. Just the question is, will that work? Will Filo be able to make him pay over the top? Really, will Jaden Ball maybe just be able to make Missouri pay with broken tackles? That type of thing. The point is, will committing those extra guys work or not? You know, I got to say, I'm going to make a pick here. I think the Gators are going to win. I just, I don't have enough. But I think it's a close game, though. I don't think the Gators are going to cover. I think they win by three points, something like that. I think this is kind of a knockout, dragout type of game. But, and probably closer than, again, what the betting public, sort of your general public thinks. But at the same time, I just, I don't have as much confidence in Missouri right now as I do Florida simply put it. And Florida wasn't a team that I had tremendous confidence in entering the,
entering week one whatsoever. I was kind of down on the Gators, was saying it all off season. But as this shows, not only was I wrong, number one, but number two, you know, offseason predictions these days are about as hard, probably harder than they've ever been in the portal era here. I mean, what do we even do? And really, other than just creating content, I suppose. Yeah, I was having a conversation with someone about this earlier where offseason predictions is like evaluating whatever you can evaluate. And then hundreds of things need to go right for you to be right. Like, like, the players need to do their job. Coaches need to do their jobs for you to be right about things. Who the hell cares? It doesn't even matter there. I will ask you, John, putting you not super on the spot with an exact score prediction. But at over under a set of 56 and a half right now, I know that Florida has played two SEC games and a G5 and an FCS game. Florida right now is averaging 52 points per game.
Do you think that they're going to hit the over or is this the first low scoring game we get for the Gators this season? I'm leaning toward the over. And I'm the type of guy that, typically speaking, I look for understabbed on just there's a sort of counter psychological operation there. I think that that ends up in your favor if you go that way over the long term. So if I'm going to the over, that's probably a pretty good indication. Definitely an indication I'm thinking the same way you are. I do think both of these teams are going to score. I don't know. You know, 56 and a half is a lot. I'll say that. But you know, based on Florida's output so far, I think it's a fair number. Yeah. And also just to be clear for the Missouri fans that undoubtedly hate me, which is fine. I hate you too. As well as you should, frankly. Yeah, you're playing the Florida Gators. I wish I wish. I hope I hope Florida fans come out of this podcast truly loading me. That's my goal. Obviously. I, if they don't, I'll make sure they do. Don't worry. I'll thank you so much.
Thank you. I'll tell lies. Oh, thank you. I mean, oh, you should have heard that he was saying. Oh, yeah, just all this land girl. I'll take it. You should have heard what he said about Jaden ball and Tim Teebo. Oh, God. All the stuff off the air. It was, it was a grigis. I also think this is just one of those games where I don't think that they're going to, you know, obliterate the over. But I do think that that it's going to go over because Florida's defense is also just allowed a lot right now. And the corners are not playing well. They have not done a good job of making play on the ball. They've been on a lot of double moves this year. And look, I said it's about the Auburn game. There were a couple of throws where if that's not Byron Brown at quarterback, that's probably a touchdown that you gave up. You don't have Byron Brown at quarterback anymore. So now some of those mistakes, they're going to bite you in the rear end, John. Let everybody know where they can find your coverage after the game, John.
