Compact, capable, surprisingly roomy, always forward with Kia. My apartment garage in Los Feliz was clearly designed by someone who never had to open a car door. That's why my Kia Seltos just fits, with room for work bags, yoga mats, groceries, and whatever I accidentally buy at the Rose Bowl flea market. He's yelling!
Stop yelling. Why? Why? No, you're right. Party on. Yeah, kind of. Party on. Party on, white socks. Party on. Oh, Ed would have liked this. Three-Himian Grote. Today was a blast. Love these kind of days, even though for one team, it wasn't great. We had a lot of Cubs calls, a lot of white socks calls. Thank you so much for everybody listening and participating today. It's one of those days on the score and we embrace it and love it for better or for worse with the things that are going on with our teams. Thank you, too. In the days of our lives. Yes, that is true. You had me at worst, though, too. You're like, where's he going with this? You know where? Bad vibes, babe. Bad vibes, though. Yeah. The coffee looks neat, too. I do. It smells good, too. It's very... You didn't have a mug, had to use a glass. Yeah. It's that kind of day, whatever it takes. Very fresh. Well, it's like the model of the white socks, actually. It's whatever it takes. There we go. Yeah, yeah. 2221. I'll have to know. Oh, my God. I'm surprised I was allowed in the building today, but it's nice to be talking to white socks.
Oh, no. We can still kick it. It's perfect to have room. Tell people who it is before we kick it. Give it a try and my coffee. My rainbow change. Yeah. Yeah. It's Ryan McGuffey, who went back into time machine yesterday on CHSN. Yeah. That was a great picture they showed of you in the crew. I didn't see it in the moment because I was doing a live show, but that was... I did get a boatload of texts. It was really cool. I didn't see it either. It was in pregame or... In the post game. It was a picture of the last time the white socks had clenched a series there, which was 2005, obviously. Oh, baby McGuffey. How did you look exactly the same? His hair was so red. His hair was so red. His hair was so red. His hair was so red. Yeah. Like that. I have not had a haircut a while. No, the flow is probably better than that. No, that's one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the salad's not bad. That's why I call you Danzamy McGuffey. That's it, that. That and because you also swing at ball four and ball five. Whoa, whoa. That at bat was just heartbreak. Which one? I also think the second one was bad. I think first and second nobody out with PCA and Breggman behind you and you're swinging
at ball four and ball five. That was a better way. Those two didn't exactly have great at bat. Either talking about that. Over 15 with eight Ks. But even in that specific spot. I think you've got that challenge. How about our first game? Second for PCA. You know what? Be quiet. We can finish your practice. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you to our guests. I mean, Danny Parkinson's was on the show today. Herb Howard was at Hallis Hall. Adam, out of you know, you're like, who's that of NBC sports? Well, he was part of the White Sox broadcast. Yeah, yeah, I like NBC. I thought all the broadcasts were good. I mean, I say that I mean, the Cubs and the White Sox specifically. Thanks to the people who helped put this here show together. Like Ray Diaz and Tyler Beauty Ball. Connor O'Donnell, Max Curtis, Jacob Stuzz. There are video guys and the score Chicago.com editor is Cody Westeland. And yeah, it is time now for the Spiegel and Holmes show. Lawrence is all mad is here. Ryan McGuffey of the recap is here. And he is a famous White Sox fan and famous White Sox reporter.
The last time I saw Jerry Reinser so happy by the way. Was in 2005. Exactly. I was on the field. Yes, yes. The Burley showered him during the interview we were doing with him back then. Oh, yeah, he really came up out of nowhere. He was so happy. He got some shrapnel yesterday. He did. He's always wears a short sleeve gesture. All right, speaking of famous White Sox fans, who's coming out of the woodwork for game three of this next series in Chicago to claim their seat? To claim no. You know, you make Q-sanction board. And she'll be there too. All right, so it was stopped right there. Okay. I've seen Q-SAC at many, many a cup game. And I know upstairs that Murphy's bleachers on the roof with the inner circle as well. But you accept him as a Sox fan. Oh, I didn't accept him. Mike said you said who's coming out of the woodwork. And then Shelley's got seasons at Riggly in the front row. Shelley's a double-dipper. But Shelley's a double-dipper like regardless of record. He was there when they were losing a ton too. I saw Shelley games the last three years.
How about the next donors? Is he going to go to your place this time? He goes to Riggly a lot. He's sitting in the front row and reading the last. He's learning. He's learning taking in information. I mean, he's visible. He'll be there. Like he's. He'll be there. Oh, yeah, he'll be there. They better show him on the screen. Talk about the next guy. Been mailed. But the first guy, the only guy, the guy that we know, he sounded like what, 60 years old. I said that. Didn't I? Like, man, dude, he's. He's. He's. He's. We saw about Jerry. Oh, yeah. Singers are. Jerry. Jerry. Oh, yeah, the players doing that. Doing the Jerry Springer chat, whether they know it or not. It was fantastic. I took a little shot at everybody being critical. You know, I was. Did you've written about how right I was? Yeah. You know, I. You're in the list of everything else. He's been wrong. Yeah. I mean, there was one day, you know, the bulls do their annual gala. They used to do this pre-pandemic. And Jerry, I was working a lot at NBC Sports Chicago at the time. I had a great assignment.
I did White Sox, as you know, and I was doing the bulls games. And Jerry goes, they actually gave you the night off. And I was like, Jerry Reister of Get's it. I felt like Adam Sandler on the plane on the wedding scene. Jerry. The idol gets it. I don't see why everybody else doesn't get it. I got a great, I love the great. Jerry got it. I was like, thank you, Jerry. Thank you for noticing I'm working. Jerry consumes a lot of content. More than people say. Oh, he has. Where's the people thinking? If you don't think he's in the digital space of YouTube, et cetera, that dude is ingesting stuff at a rapid rate. He called that, and it was on the air right now. This is pretty good. Really? No, I'm not going to tell you who's on air. I know who it was. That's why I'm here today. I will say this. That's awesome. Yeah, talk to him on the air. Who's on the air? Who's on the air? The guy. The guy. The guy. The guy. The guy.
Yeah, I'm not necessarily me. He would hear the station, and it'd probably drove him crazy. We didn't give the full sponsorship. Look, in all honesty, lifelong baseball fan. Yeah, loves the game. Adores the game. No doubt. I mean, it's his toy, and he's done a lot of terrible and wrong things to it. He's damaged the toy at many, many times along the way. As men tend to do. She's made the three. Oh, that's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. Like to play that winters. They're having a lot about this. That's right. No. Danner, they lead Lead. Dan or colored. You went to play that one. We just came up with it. He's gotta learn the system right? don't learn the thing. Do you know daddy? inflammat cheesy on the horse of кон. I didn't like that, alive. Yes. You don't wait until you just came up with that. Yeah, you know, say head to head, fight besides clarifying it. Oh, that's what's missing, you knowителя is the thing, huh? Yeah. We're all going to be trapped. We're going to collapse in red. Dude. We got trouble. So honorable mention to Fernando Tatees or it wasn't Tatees one of them is smoking an actual cigarette.
I love that. Which is just tremendous. That was Tatees by the way. While there's something so anti establishment about smoking a cigarette in a celebration. So yeah, and then all these people like, well, there has been about the memes. I was like, what is she doing? You know what? If you got a prom, a Jerry like taking a zing at this point, you really need to reevaluate. It's not changing. Okay. And then the sex are winning. Don't get caught up in the like, well, 1994, I don't whatever you want. I'm not going to tell you how to fan. I was sitting there. About here's, but here's the reality though. Okay. I'm sitting at the dog park the other day with a listener who's a big white socks fan and we're talking about the playoffs. And he's like, you know, it's the first, it's only been a few years where I'm allowing myself to root for the Cubs. Ever since Jerry did what he did, or not even know which in Mr. D was talking about. Maybe 21, probably 21. So yeah, about the whole of Rousse. That's not the same. That is the deal. No, 21 to me is LaRousse. Some people did. We took a million calls on it, swear an off him, screw that. As long as Jerry's the owner, I'm not going to this.
I have several friends that are right. And so I'm not trying to make it about that. But it's just, it's an interesting, it's an interesting reality, I think, for a lot of legit white socks fans out there. Well, and we can say what we've got, you know, and Guffin, we worked together for many years. Jerry let us be like he was fair. He was okay with the criticism. And like he's been there for so damn long. It's just all ups and downs at this point. Shout out to the textures says that Antonacci is basically Eddie Stanky. That was Jerry's guy. Oh yeah. You know, Jerry, of Jerry loved Eddie Stanky more than anybody and he talked to him. And that's why he loved David Eckstein. Oh, that's his time guy. That's why he loved Chris Guetz. It's why he loved all these, the certain profile. Oh yeah. And you know he loves Antonacci. Oh yeah. Who could be a little scrappy lead off hitter on any team of any era. And man, history of baseball, what a series that guy had. I mean, I'm still going back to game one where he goes full count and then walks and then the parade after that. I mean, I always scored one in that first inning.
He leads off the game yesterday with a double like he was and he was, it was up to his old tricks and game one getting hit by a pitch. And one of his box scores, his box scores hit, uh, hit walk run scored hit by pitch. Yeah. It's like, that's his three true outcomes. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I said, get Murakami's walks right out of Homer to Antonacci's hit walk hit by pitch. Amazing. Yeah. Okay. No notes. Instead of 10, I love players like that. You need it. You need it. But you need a couple of them. They do have them. I'll be damned. You know who doesn't have any of them? Those Chicago cups. Not a one. Not a one. And they should have traded away Matt Shaw a year ago. Or eight months ago or three months ago or two years ago, two years ago, when there was still value this, there is a third basement of the future. I mean, you look, you look around baseball and how do you how do you have a good, forced efficient team stay good?
They trade when they value is seemingly high for dudes that they know better about. Yeah. And you got to do that because I mean, they have, they have some needs on that roster. The most the other guy. Chris talking about the crochet deal and that the big hang up of the deal is my druth that the red sex were like, we really don't want to trade that guy. And Chris said, cool. I have other teams online one. It has to be my druth. They they had already agreed to deal in Montgomery, but the my druth one that the red sex were like, we're probably going to kick ourselves for this. Pretty, I mean, like that whole sequence and the the bluffing with the blunt before the I heard you were talking about that. I there was a hundred percent of bluff. Yeah. That's scouting. I mean, he was that was a bluff, but to draw the third basement into allow the double steel to have. Yeah. I really believe it. It was brilliantly exited that whole inning. I want to talk about it in detail. It was brilliantly executed offensively. I absolutely agree that it's a bluff, but to bring people in, you see it and you see it all the time.
And then to get rewarded with the bomb is just so symmetrical baseball, isn't it? You do things right. You set yourself up with an advantage and then you get rewarded by getting to meet ball in three. It's just also good offensive approach like that. You saw to find offensive approaches. You saw calls in Montgomery hit that bomb in the O2 count and tell you, you know what? I didn't get the pitches I wanted. Sorry. I had to adjust and Adam out of you talked about how he probably knew that he wasn't going to get the pitch you wanted my druth. So he adjusted and I just don't hear that from the Cubs hitters. Yes, to me, the biggest thing is we're going to talk about like well, we're going to talk about why one advance one's going home and I agree with you. I thought the offensive approach to the white sucks. The game plan for the series was the best offensive game plan I've seen in baseball in 10 to 15 years. Derek Sherman man. I mean, they had a plan to run as many pitchers through. We wanted to get as many guys out of that bullpen as we could is what he said after one point.
I was three guys in the first. I was calculating pitches in that game. But one point in the fifth inning, the white sucks had seen 139 and thrown 76 man. That's double. So and then hunter brown. All I heard about is six and oh, and the umpire behind home plate. He's the assos are nine and oh and he calls games. I don't care. I don't care what your regular season looks like. I really don't care. If the to me, the more they've seen you like the white sucks are going to see Parker Messick and Game one on Saturday. Yeah. I love it. At this point. I've actually seen a guy a bunch. So by the way, we're going to do a bunch of bears on the show too. Kyler Gordon. Yes. Kyler Kyler. Kyler Gordon full participant in practice. Yeah. Like opening the 21 day window is one thing. Full participant is another. Let me ask you though, grotes the lead the noted bears observer and longtime guy. The fact that it's a walk through and it's a a like a projection, a projection of what
it would be. And possible there's also a little dig in there like you're fine. You're fine. We're listing you as a full party. Like will he be a full participant in an actual practice if they have one today? Well, that's the whole question is like what what is going on? Like if you listen to Ben Johnson, obviously he wants nothing to do with it. After this 21 day window does does he actually begin playing or do they put him back on the public, which would mean his season is over or on injured reserve, which would mean his season is over or they trade him or they release him. I thought that that listening to Dennis Allen today, he was mostly positive about Kyler Gordon because he always has been but still a little bit hesitant. It's really I really can't wait to hear from Kyler Gordon, which we probably will after this week. We won't hear from him this week. That's just a problem. That's right. We don't know. He's he should be available to reporters after next after this game. Were you holding up a finger there, Lila?
I was pointing at you because you had the you had a good point. It was an affirmation. No, I put him on notice because I stared him down when I was like, I haven't heard anything about off. It's about pro to get the podra. Oh, no, Graham. Yeah. So it'll be interesting. I think. Tyler, Tyler Gordon has 21 days to prove to the game. The coach is that he should be trusted and actually wants to play. Yeah. And I'm just trying to still figure out if that decision has already been made. You know, I don't know where I am. I don't think he know where I am. I think he is slow quitting. I think he is slow quitting on football and taking all the money with that's what I mean. Like is he going through? Is this a formality? Okay, you're back and then you're going to immediately go back on the pop and everybody's going to be happy or it's going to get released or traded. You could walk out of the palace hall with his money, right? Or is he really returning to play? I am hoping obviously that it is the latter that he's returning to play. It's because he's such a good player, but I still have no idea. It's a weirdest situation I could remember.
I mean, if you ever, I mean, it's pretty unprecedented. I mean, like Nate, the Nate Davis comp comes up, but Nate Davis was not nearly as much of an ascending player. I star at his position. It also wasn't as quiet of a quit either. It was a pretty aggressive quit. Yeah, it really was. This is the back's buzz. With details and it was detailed going back to Tennessee, too. Remember that? We should have probably taken some of that stuff a little bit more. So, hey, can I just do this since we're in the space, head space? Yeah, there's when Joey Porter Jr. got traded. Am I the only one who thought, oh, was it that the pick that they gave up for Chase Claypool? Oh, yeah, so it's good call. I forgot. I don't know. I did petty over here. Pettie, Rahimi did not receipts Rahimi. Here's what's going on in the show today. It is the speak on home show. Lawrence is out today. Ryan McGuffey is in. That means, among other things, we will talk plenty of baseball today. We will take your calls along the way on why the Cubs got eliminated. We will take your calls along the way on why the white socks moved on. And we will start the show by talking about both of those things.
Little bit later, Patrick Mannelly will talk bears with us to the top of the hour. We will turn the page finally towards the jets. And Dave Wons set us in studio today. It is all happening. It's all happening right here on 1043, the score with speaklin' Albs next. Tyler! No, thank you guys. Thank you, hey, hey, hey, this segment is sponsored by Pettie Webport. Everybody in this organization, assess the year, and come back and be better next year. I like the reputation. I don't speak English. I need the translator. I can't go to the list. But I think it's one of my top. Not, I mean, it feels like we got beat in two games. I don't know. Like bad answer, but none of it feels good. That's it. So I'm just feeling pretty, pretty displeying to myself. But that's for me to work on. So. Well, what we're going to do? We're going to get out of play. We're going to head to Cleveland, Ohio. Somebody's pulling. I'll call it down my pants. Yeah, I mean, it just stinks. It never gets any easier. Cleveland doesn't end in a whole series, like so. I think probably everyone's still trying to process everything to a fall of the guys. We're going to go on the road.
We're going to kick some of that. And we're going to free playoff. Yeah. Cubs are going to the World Series. I'm calling. I am not comfortable stepping out on that ledge with you. He's not feeling great, but in the back he's going to be OK. I was good. Fine. It's just a little thing. Alex, Alex is here. It doesn't want to want to know where Alex is. He doesn't? Nope. Not even curious. Don't go these here. Oh, yeah. That's good point. I told him I was here. Oh, you did. He's not worried. All right. Well, Alex is here. He's not vacationing somewhere in Europe. I'm really disappointed Dave wants to. Really unhappy about that. There's no football out there.
And it's not true. I'm all not trying to make it out there. Yeah, it doesn't really exist. Tate's here. Alex's here. And Ryan McGuffee is here. You know how about it? That is an incredible bit of audio showcasing the clinching and the elimination. Both of them happening the 10th day ever that we have postseason baseball involving the White Sox and the Cubs on the same day here in Chicago. And 125 years, 10th day ever that both were playing and they were very different experience. Outstanding work. Chris Tanahill, outstanding work. And it would have felt the pain had it been White Sox on the other end of that. But it was fun. 120 years, guys. I thought it was going to be the 120th anniversary of the last time the Cubs and Sox played in the World Series. And we have to punt again on the idea that that's going to happen. Someday, someday, you know, that's the Holy Grail that is left in Chicago's sports. And maybe in all of MLB is that particular World Series? I guess it Cubs Red Sox World Series.
No, Cubs. For all of MLB. That would have been cool if neither had one. Yeah, right. You know, that would have been fun if like one of them, they matched up in 2004. But we deserve Cubs White Sox. Yeah, I can carry on some points of the cut. Some point in our life Cubs White Sox would be an absolute thrill. Not going to get that. We will talk plenty of White Sox. In fact, we'll talk about them in the next second. Patrick Manley at the top of the hour. And you'll hear from Dennis Allen on Kyler Gordon, who is back in the Bears practice fold. We will turn the page officially at four o'clock. And Dave Wandson will be in at five o'clock. Along the way, your phone calls, your text will be extremely welcome. And in fact, elemental with the very completion of the broadcast as you're listening to 1043 The Score. I think what should be noted predominantly as the main point for both teams. But also, but really for the Cubs as well as we talk about this and think about it, the cruelty of the wild card format is the predominant headline to me because it's two games.
And you can spend an entire year, an entire offseason plotting and scheming, how to build something and it may seem like it's built okay or built really well or whatever. But you get here, you got to show up. And if you don't show up in two games, you go home and you find yourself questioning everything. And then it's your job. And in fact, it's our job to figure out what's legitimately worth questioning and what is not worth questioning. And you can fall off the rails real easy and say, this whole thing is a travesty. And this old thing is that they went forward in the offseason with Breggman and more and they went forward again at the deadline. And then when it came to be nutcutting time, they failed. And they looked awful and they were embarrassed. So we got a sort through that. But I think that's the predominant point I want to make sure stays up. I'm not going to complain about the format because we and I'm not complaining about it. I'm just saying it's freaking cruel. It's not as cruel as it was though.
I'd never liked the one game. The one game that's cruel 162 for one. It's not a normal game. It's just not. Now you can treat the wild card as is as a normal series, which I think the Cubs did and that's where they failed. They had some serious problems in the way that they approached us. And the white socks treated it like game seven on game one. Because they've been doing it for two months. And then they treated game two like game seven again. And that's how you need to treat the wild card. Like even Joe Aspada went out and got the one guy in their rotation that could dance deep into games and pulled him in the first inning. Because you take him out, you don't wait. It's four nut. And it was the right move. They clawed back. It was four three just like that. They were a big hit away. And in that regard, I'll say to my main criticism of Craig Council of this series is that Clay Holmes didn't pitch. I am in. What are we doing? And I said it for the last 10 days, that dude ought to be in your bullpen. How many times did I reference? He threw four games in relief in the world series two years ago. I know he wants to be a starter. I know he is a starter. Who gives a damn about starting Anthony Cabe made a relief appearance?
Eric Fettie closed the game. This is, this is. This is what the world is. He should have been the first guy out of the bullpen after Matthew Boyd. First guy. If you want to start Boyd on full rest, Boyd's actually been real good the last six starts. He's not been the guy who gives up a lot of home runs. Hasn't given up a home run on a first pitch change up like what in two years, I think, right? He did then. I you can complain about that, but he took out clay homes after 78 pitches on Friday and the double header. That meant on three days, three days rest, he should have been in the bullpen for the first two games of the series. I said it before the series and I'm pissed that it wasn't the reality now. I think, I think that Jefferson Rojas was the highest traded prospect at the deadline, right? Top 40. He's a top 40, depending on what list you shop at. He was 30 on one. He was 40 on another. Yeah. He was 35 on the 25th. The 35th ranked prospect in all of baseball and we know how teams value these prospects. Look at the white socks. Now that's a criticism of gets at the deadline that they refuse to go that high and that
guy didn't pitch for you. I think it's a worthy criticism of gets. I mean, 100%. But then they win these two games brilliantly, manages and all of a sudden the white socks roses in full bloom. That's part of the cruelty of the format. It is part of the absurdity of the format that that criticism can and probably will catch up to the white socks the further that they go. Maybe sell. However, but you manage with what you have absolutely. And with going back to the Cubs, you trade that guy to go get that guy to get homes and you don't. He never throws a pitch in the postseason. But you know, so look, I don't know. Here. So my main things are I can't believe that homes never throws a pitch. Your superstars got a show up, man. And Breggman and PCA went over 15 with eight strikeouts. Their approach sucked. Their offensive approach as a team sucked. As individuals, it was worse. And it looked like nine guys freelancied to me. It looked like nine guys going up there with their individual game plans. And when I watched the white socks, it was anything but that and not just the way. How about how about the Padres?
Absolutely. Padres were scratching and clawing and finding a way to make contact. Jackson Merrill. Correct. Not looking to go to go yard, whatever. The Yankees were similar to against the Boston. They jumped up, Peyton totally eat early. And that the teams that advanced in the to the DS had a plan and treated it as much. But you will hear constantly and we heard it all through every broadcast, the team that out homers the other wins 48% of the time or maybe even higher than that, whatever the damn percentages. I'm at the point where I get annoyed when I hear it. Jim De Shays, who I love said it the other night, like, well, you got to, like you've got to look for homers, you got to look for homers. Let's get on freaking base. Our guy, Nico Horner was the one guy who was like scratching, fighting, doing whatever the hell he's got to do. Let me hack at it. Like I'm holding him a shedding with one hand, fighting my way through the jungle, whatever I got to do, give me a shot. I didn't squirt up Mason Miller last night. Yeah, he did. Yeah, he did. I mean, it didn't work for the Astros. They had three homers yesterday. They were all solo shots.
So talk about scrapping and clawing. Look at what the white socks did in the first innings of both games. You can't wait to talk white socks. Oh, yeah. Is October baseball? I'm sorry. You tell me which team is playing in October. Oh boy. Oh, there we go. Two thirty six. Sorry. No, no, no, look, they're both open again. I got to lift your head until you leave. Got friends. The book mixed in the whole way. Look, the other main comes point I want to make is that home field, freaking mad. Damn right. It does. 47,000 people with screaming yellow towels, not the yellow zonkers. Those are delicious, by the way. Like 47,000 and you had a shot August 12. The Cubs had finished up at eight and one run. They were seven and a half games up as the number one wild card in the national league. Seven and a half games up on August 12. They went 18 and 23 to finish two and four in the final week with home field still on the line. And the last game meant nothing. So they went one and four, two or three they lost to Miami and the double headers sweep.
And look, you take away the six runs in that game that meant nothing. Here they're runs scored in the last 10 days. Two, two, two, three, zero. And then in the playoffs, zero and one. That offense went eight for 62 in this playoff series. This two game series with just one run scored home field mannered and they blew it. Three for 66. I believe in the last eight games of a runners and scoring position as well. Don't tell me about the number one offense in baseball. That number one offense had flaws. And I think everybody who watched the Cubs for six months in the blowout, those blowout wins get too much credit this year for the Cubs. They do. It just has to show up when it matters. This is where I go back to the, the, the, the cruelty of the format in good or bad for whatever reason Harper and Schwerber show up yesterday with their solo homers to bring the Phillies back. But in a, in a short series, it's like, you don't know, it's going to, many Machado, you only hits in the post season, 207.
It's one of the worst batting averages for anybody. So I want to sit here and say, well, San Diego superstars, those guys show up. Tatista's does, you know, Machado did a homer in the first game, but he's been terrible in the post season. It's just these two games for whatever reason. And you got to figure out what reason, Breggman and PCA didn't. Well, you can't go from it. So I don't, I don't necessarily agree that there are flaws in the offense writ large. I, I, I struggle with that. That's when I wonder if we're doing too much. I think it's top heavy. That's why I wonder if we're doing too much about the game. I think it's top heavy. I mean, I think it's top heavy. It's PCA. It's Breggman. It's say, uh, and then there's a lot of holes in that like five through nine. There are, there are a lot of holes and it's going to change. We saw Ian Hap, borderline emotional last night after the game. It's likely that he played his last game as a cub. I think everybody feels like that. Very, I think the reds or the pirates will be thrilled. They in app to try and produce there. The ways produced there on the road. I think say as a zookeeper, he's a question mark. I think they'll try to bring him back. But I think there's going to be interest there. I thought him saying I didn't produce the way I thought I would for the last five
years as a cub was interesting. But I do think it's a very top heavy lineup. And when you pay a guy 175 in the off season and he has a second half, if you did it out in Alex Bergen and you're the MVP of the league, you go over and you look foolish arguing with an umpire and you're challenging a pitch on the third pitch of the game in game two. It doesn't look good for you. You know, JD said it last night in the broadcast. Pete's emotions got the better at him last night with that challenge and it hampered them often throughout the rest of the game and Pete almost got thrown out in game one. Yep. And it's cruel because I think the world is a team as a 24 year old who has matured before our eyes in a number of different ways during the course of the year. His emotions got the best of him in this little two game set and it hurt the team and he knows it. We're going to take your phone calls on the cubs and why they got eliminated next hour after we talked to patched manually. But when we come back on the score, the white socks are incredibly likable. They just are.
There's no way to pretend they're not even for you, cub fans. We'll discuss them moving on next on the score. Keep it on the score as we follow this magical season for the socks on sports radio 104 to 3 the score and live on the free audacity. Let's clear the air about hybrids with Kia. I live in Pasadena so my Kia Telluride Turbo Hybrid has to do a little of everything. School bags, speech chairs, a grocery run, I swore would be small. And somehow there's still room in my sister text. I'm landing in Burbank, come pick me up. It seats seven, has over 600 miles of range and makes the 134 feel a little less like a test of character.

But the other day, remember, say humble kid. Life comes out you quick. I draw that of the University of San Diego. He's not highly recruited. And he hits one well out toward left field, way back there. Now, where else is going? It is GAN! Three run, oh, season home run for Chase by Draw. And the white socks have extended their lead in 7-3. Chase by the... He's fuck. Oh my god. Bye. Chito. Virot Chito. Boom. Vune. Even though he might be small. Chase by the draw at the best second base in the American League. Virot Chito. Chase by the second base in the American League. Vune. Chase by the second base in the American League. Of course. Let's go! It is 104-3, the score. Speaks and Ryan McGuffey here with you on the Spiel and Olm show. You know, I happen to live with a hardcore meatball cup fan who is kind of conditioned to dislike
the team because of the laundry. And I've had to slowly sort of explain to her just how freaking likable this bunch is. It is impossible to watch them and not feel a fondness for the collective, whether it is Murakami and the thrilling joy he's having now. But remember the joy he came in with at the very beginning. And how important it was to set up everything. The way that they play, the way that Antonachi just thinks they're a bunch of idiots. That's the fact that he might have fallen on his way onto the field on purpose for money. Yes. I mean, it's just incredible. The way that the manager is fearless, the way that all the pitchers don't give a crap, what role they have, they just want to go. I mean, they're just an incredibly likable bunch. Did you Ryan McGuffey enjoy the game more or the celebration more afterwards? Oh. Probably the game. The stage of my life, I want, like I knew how this celebration was going to go.
I mean, there are a bunch of do. I like look at my address in the lock in the clubhouse. I have to words said, like somebody asked him, why is this work so well? Why are you guys so close? And he's like, because we literally are fraternity. And that's it. Remind immediately that connection. Like I was in a fraternity and in me that's like, oh, yeah, I remember that. I know exactly, like it doesn't make sense to a lot of people, but it makes sense to them. And that's all they care about. And it's all they care about. And I think Cub fans might forget because it's, you know, a recency bias. How likable that 15 season was and how likable the 15 cubs were. The newness, the newness is a big part of what makes it likable. We don't know some of the details and flaws that are going to reveal themselves and the inevitable failures that happen over a bigger stretcher based new manager and Joe Madden who is the hot shot cool guy. Yep. A bunch of prospects that comes at everyone came up and hit every single prospect hit. They all made their debut throughout the year into 16.
And it's the same kind of situation. Every guy that's come up along the way was in 15, 16 guys made their debut this year. Not everyone's been a success story, but most of them have been and they're all contributing to what has been the best story in baseball. And I mean, is there a bigger turnaround in the history of the game? I don't believe so. Nobody's ever made the playoffs after two 100 lost seasons let alone three the record for most wins after three 100 lost seasons was 70 correct. They've steamrolled past all of that and also removed from 121. I mean, and it's even bigger than that. It's a more abundant franchise. Correct. We've been talking in such detail about how poorly they are run, how poorly a job ownership has done like all of it. And for them to turn into this and we touched on this a little bit yesterday, they're out front with the usage of these young arms, whether it's taken Smith or Grant Taylor, where I think you'll have to see no assaults in the next round, be used in a similar way. The way that Fettie and Anthony Kay don't really give a crap.
I mean, we've seen that in some instances before, but the fact that their young arms are all ready to go to three innings, whatever, just give me the ball. You tell me one. Yeah. That's what I said yesterday. And for those that weren't listening, you relinquish control as a fan because what you think you know about the white socks from your decades long fanship that you've had is not the same anymore. It's just not 83. It doesn't look like 93. 2021 doesn't look like 20. They don't have traditional conventional, your grandpa, your dad's baseball. And if you don't like it, it's not going to change. Like they have Jerry challenged Chris. So people don't know when they when he higher Chris gets go figure out what the guardians are doing, go figure out what the razor doing. That could upset people because what are those two franchises do? They're cheap, right? They don't have payrolls that are like the Cubs, the Yankees, etc. So go figure out what they're doing because that might be your reality. And Chris did announce it. Chris did figure it out. There wasn't three assistant GMs under Rick Han.
There wasn't. It was Kenny. It was Rick. He hired people smarter than him in certain situations and allowed those guys to dominate the things he brought them in to do. So a texture says Sam Antonovitch is not likeable. Twice has been caught throwing elbows and opponents with cheesiness. Lovable. Yeah. No, he's extremely likable. Maybe he's not on your team. If you had him, you think the pistons fans liked to build lame beer. Right. You know, the white fox fans like AJ Przinski. No. Yeah. I'm saying when he was a twin, no, right? You didn't like him. Very sure. But as soon as he got here, like, oh, man, you need to do it like that. Learn to tell them an irritant. You're not. Yeah. Just call him the a-hole. We call him an a-hole, but he's our a-hole. Whatever it takes. Yeah. Whatever it takes. That's a tone for the entire freaking lineup is what he does. And will Venable learns. Will Venable learns and evolves after the game where Antonovitch took the bad route and Cleveland. I wondered in our show thread in the next day, I'm like, does he have a closing outfield defensively because Antonovitch shouldn't be in left field for an outfield.
What did he do yesterday after the my-draft home run? Brenton Doyle in center, Tristan Peters in left. Yep. Braden Montgomery in right. There's your question. There's your answer. There's your defensive closing outfield. Will Venable learns and evolves along the way. It's pointed at thumb multiple times during the course of the year. I got that one wrong. Remember after he took out Schultz in the first setting, I was standing in the dugout that next day when he was talking about, yeah, I screwed that up. I did not sleep well. I did not sleep well. You know, whatever. Just accountable, figuring it out. I love seeing that closing defensive outfield yesterday. It's the- I said this. Button up. It's the best- you want your manager, you want everybody in your organization to be their best this time of year. Especially the guy leading the charge, Will Venable had his best two games of the season in Houston. And I expect nothing less at this point. The organization was on- I was looking at little things in Houston, you know? When they made a pitching change on the other side, he brought the entire- all three guys
on the bases. He brought them in for a quick meeting to meet with them about base running while the pitchers warming up. Like little things that you just haven't seen on the saw side. Here's a text. I'd rather watch the cane-county-cougars than the White Sox. Oh, see the- Steve Stone doesn't have the same romance on TV that he used to have when he was for the Cubs. So this is good. It's insulting to compare the White Sox team that's done nothing to the Cubs World series team. No, he said 15, sir. He said 2015 when they made the NLCS and they had that feeling of next and the newness that was there. I just don't want to hear anymore that Cubs fans don't care about the White Sox because you're reading text here that it's- I love the cane-cut screw this guy. He's not likable. It's okay. Hey, man, I started it by bringing up my wife. That's on me probably. No, that's funny. It's true. It's true with what this town is. I had to let go and like cover in that 15 Cubs team and six into 16. Yeah. When they won, I was happy. I really- I was like, man, there's a bunch of good dudes that I've relished with in there and I knew all the Cubs fans of my life.
Right. I'm happy I was for them. But like, I didn't- I'm like, I don't hate this team like I've hated Cubs teams. This is what's going to be happening the next week or so whether, you know, people want to acknowledge it or not. You're going to have a lot of baseball fans who might not be White Sox fans in this town. Cubs fans are going to be like, well, should I watch them? Or not? I wonder. And there'd probably be some who like haven't watched them a lot and they'd be like, there's just a local baseball. I'm thrilled. I personally am thrilled that we get more baseball. I'm consequent. Yeah. Look, I'll put it this way. All those people you're just talking about come Wednesday when all eyeballs are going to be on 35th and shields because that place is going to be absolutely bananas. And if the White Sox win one of the two in Cleveland either Saturday or Monday and can come home and play three and four when the White Sox have already calling for the black out again. You thought Houston in 2021 when they came here down Oh, two of the White Sox was cool and it was. Can you get a cane guy? Forget about it. Dude, four.
Can you get a cane man? Don't forget about it. I think in Tanny, I don't know what you think. This will rival to me if they can come home and clinch. This will rival 28. I just hope Q seconds tickets. Good ones. I'm sure he'll get up. Okay. I'm looking up for him as I always am. It is. It is one over four three. The score.
