We were on the break with Ambar Garcia, Vach Lombardi, Tommy Yaris, and Derek Eagleton. It is Friday, October 2nd, 2026, season 22, episode number 43. Welcome to the latest edition of the break. We are live from SWBC Mortgage Studios at the star. We are presented by LG Stopping. LG is the world's number one OLED TV brand for 11 years. And counting CY at LG.com, forward slash OLED. Evo. Welcome to show. How's everybody doing? Good, how are you? I'm good. I'm good. Mr. Tommy, you just came from the Coaches press conferences. Is there anything that he said that is worth us, even though some people don't listen to press? Were you listening to him? Yeah, I was. So come here. That's what I'm asking him. I want him to tell me what he said. Come here. Come here. Well, once again, there was important information to this press conference. Good. Tell us what he said. Demarvian overshown his out against Houston. So somebody his third-striort game, missing time. He has not suffered a setback. According to Brian Schott and Heimer, but he will not play on Sunday.
Malik Hooker with the forearm is trending towards playing. So the guys will get some help back in the safety. That's the one that was most important, I think, just because of so many injuries there at safety. I think that's huge. Yeah. Go ahead. Sorry. So, Vohen Revel will start with the rehab group today. They'll see if he can work his way into practice. We'll see what happens on that one. I think he did not practice yesterday. I think he was working strictly with rehab yesterday. And then I'll take blanking on the last one. Kobe Durant with the hamstring. Brian Schott and Heimer said he did a good job this week, but still a little bit of a ways to go there in his recovery. And then the big one that everybody's asking about Joey Porter, Jr. Trending in the right direction, but they need to see him stack a second day today in order to feel a little bit more comfortable within going out there. Just worried about that back, man. You know, it's just nagging about just so concerned that the injuries did not throw him out. Yeah, right. Back injuries. It's tough to do with turning into something more, right? Yep. It's tough to do worries me, man. My back hurts all the time. Tyrus moves somewhere sick of y'all because he'll head to his weekening. Right. And he'll be like, y'all making fun of that.
And now y'all just messing around with the back edge. Please. I don't laugh about that stuff. Yeah, meaning you have to get back in that moment. Yeah, back in that moment. Like back. Yeah. And sometimes you just get out of bed and all this sudden you feel something pull at you on either your neck or your back or like, oh god. Yeah. So yeah, I am a dayage where that happens. It does happen in the summer. For no reason. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then we're going to be doing this stuff. But hopefully you will be fine. Hopefully the back is just a temporary thing and it's getting better by the day. He was in great spirits, yesterday. He was not on the Azure report yesterday for what it's worth. Yeah. So I think we're good. I will say this real quick. And we were talking about before we went on there. Man, if you guys are not following, keeping a cowboy. You need to go check it out because there's some really fun content that Ms. Garci is putting together with our staff. And I think it's just, it's just good stuff. So if you haven't checked it out, go check it out. It's good stuff. And you can find it on Instagram. You can find it on TikTok. You can find it on YouTube. And there's lots more to come. There's so many more ideas of things we're going to do. And the best part is it takes you guys behind the scenes and lets you see a lot of things
from the perspective of how we see them working here in this building, which is always very, very interesting, even when it's not supposed to be. So just make sure you check it out. It's good stuff. All right. Let's talk a little bit about a real quick on the injury front. Before we move forward, what have we heard about the two guys in Houston? I think everybody's keeping an eye on Nico Collins and Aziz Al Shea here. I think those are the two players for Houston that are most, that make that would make a biggest impact for Houston that have been on their injury report. What are we hearing about those two players? I would say I would expect Collins to play. I think he's trending in that direction. Practice two days in a row. He was limited again yesterday. And I would say Al Shea here is probably trending in the wrong direction for Houston. He has not practiced the last two days with the growing injury. So I would not be surprised if Collins is up to a full participant today, if he's limited and listed as questionable. I think he's headed in the right direction towards the plan. But Al Shea here, I would expect not to play. Which is a huge blow for them, as I've heard.
You guys talk about, and others talk about he is the middle of their deepness, quite literally and figuratively. So, yeah, that would be a big loss. And the Texans are pretty thin linebacker right now. They've got three guys on IR. And Jake Hanson, they're starting strong side guys questionable. Well, I mean, he's been limited the last two days in practice as well with an injury. I think it's his calf. So, if they don't play, you've got eight in Fisher and Wade Wood as, there are two guys, both rookies. So, that would be quite a pretty difficult hill for them. On Vach's favorite player, Wade Wood as at a Clemson. We got these laughs out the way in Draft Sea. So, I ain't really worried about it. Nothing is ever going to be. But the problem is. Nothing is ever going to beat Dr. Heller Trash. That was... Wait, wait, huh? Oh, I remember. Yeah, that was maybe the funniest segment I think we've done on the draft show. There's another one too, but I don't even feel comfortable saying his name.
We'll say it later. All right, let's move on to the... Because he's our share is nice though. He's probably one of the better linebackers in league. And the Texans' run, D, is very good from the down line into the linebackers. So, you know, hey, man, nobody's going to feel sorry for you. We missing corners and safety. So, if they're missing Aziz Al Shahir, then I would imagine. The Cowboys probably going to try to run the ball anyway, but that would be one added bit of help for you, I would say. Let me ask you this. When you say that, I look at Baltimore. And I've always thought of Baltimore as having a stout run defense. So, Dallas ran the ball effectively against them. Do you look at it as Baltimore is just as good as Houston. Baltimore is not as good as Houston, so that we can get it kind of a grade on whether Dallas can have success against them as they had with Baltimore. I think Houston just got the dudes everywhere. Like, they got a dude at every single spot and even the backups. So, we talk about Hunter. We talk about Anderson.
Tommy Togai. Togai, help me, Tommy. But even the backups, when Logan Hall comes on the field, Mario Edwards, like from the top to the bottom, they got seven to nine guys that can rotate and they're all good at the run. I feel like the Ravens got like four really, really good guys dealing with the run. And you find challenges in that, but like, yeah, I mean, you can run at Mike Green, who was their outside lineback. He may be 240 some odd pounds. Sure, run at Mike Green. And that might be a little heavy for him. But I mean, no matter who you rotate out of this Houston D line, they got dudes that can come on the field, stop the run, and they can rush the pass. So, I would say that this is a more stout group than the Ravens run to use. What's super impressive about this group is that they are so successful defending the run with four guys. Like, they don't need to send a fifth. They don't need to load up the line of scrimmage. They line out pretty wide sometimes. And they just have success stepping up in the run game. We just, I just asked Brian Schottheimer about it.
If you want to hear his answer in that press conference, which again, it's always good to hear about. Just about, you know, hey, they're so good on the secondary. We talk about Stingley and Lasseter and Bullock and those guys. But to have the success you do with the pass versus you have at stopping the run with only four guys is pretty impressive. I think it's, they're allowing like three and a half yards to carry on those kinds of plays. They're nickel all day too. Yeah, they're nickel all the time. Highest nickel rate in the league, 87.4% and they're allowing three and a half yards to carry against run place. So, now, the part of that too is because they've got Al Shire and those guys in the lineback record that can step up and fill. So, you wonder if is this something that they're really going to be hurting now in that department because they don't have that guy in there. But, Fisher and Wood as I think are still solid players, but they're rookies. You have guys that can go and take advantage of them. Yeah, you know, it's fun. Just going to call them way now. Call them way wood as if he's a game.
I'm looking for wood as well. Yeah, it's funny when you say it Mario Edwards, all I could think about was I was actually working for the Cowboys. When his dad was drafted by the Cowboys and played with the Cowboys for three years. And, yeah, now he's playing. And he's a veteran. He's been around the league for many years. Did he come out of Miami? Was it right? Florida State. Florida State. Florida State. I know it was one of the state, one of the schools in Florida. He will not be playing. He's on IR. Yes. Mario, they got a lot of guys banged up. They got a lot of guys on IR. Kate and McDonald, their defensive tackleer, for the second round pick from a house day who I love this year. He's on IR. Wait, he was the second round pick from last year. From this year. This year. Got it. He was part of that Ohio State defense. Oh, they have so many players. Yeah, they got a couple defensive. They not win the championship. That's crazy. Offense. Yeah, quarterback started a little bit. Julian saying a little bit. But just saying. All right, let's take our first break.
When we come back, we're going to jump into the Houston defense versus the Cowboys offense. We didn't get to all that yesterday. We're going to dive into some of the details of that matchup. And the third segment, we got a little yeti time with AG. All right. We'll see how that goes. We'll be back. That was Cowboys.com radio. She got someone. Lack from SWBC Morgan Studios at the star of the segment brought to you by Blockchain.com. Did I hear it ding? I didn't hear it. Sorry. Okay, let's talk about the Houston defense. Give me some players to watch. Who are the players on this defense? And we've already talked about Al Shayer. I think we've talked a little bit about some of the defensive vans. Talk to me about some of the other guys that we haven't talked about as much this week that are stand out players. You said they got dudes everywhere. Tell me about some of those dudes. Stingley the corner. Nice. He's been out of LSU. He's been nice since his freshman year. Yeah. He's a guy that he's always going to take on the biggest sign. If you watch the film, he ran around with Jay Marin. Interesting. Lee enough. If you look at the Bengals and the Bills game, it might be because of the quarterbacks in those offense. Like they threw in that direction a bunch. I wanted the Cowboys want to do that as well. You know, because you guys see the lamb. See the lamb as a guy. But can I interrupt you for a second? Sure. If you're Houston and you say, you know what?
We really want Stingley to take away one of these two options. Sure. Which one is the one that you'd want him to take away? Well, try to take away. Because I don't think he necessarily can take them away. But which one would you put him on? I think teams starting at the middle of last year to now have kind of shown you that they fear pickens a little bit more. Yeah. If you get pickens going, he can blow you up in just one play. Yeah. CD Lamb can as well. But it's like, it's crazy that they're letting CD get involved in there. Giving the attention to GP. At some point, the has to shift. But I think that's the case because CD moves around. It's tougher to kind of take him away. And GP is in his one spot. So if I had to imagine that they would want to give Lasseter the pickens help and Stingley would be the lamb guy. Tom, you think I'm right on with that? Nope. I think you're absolutely right on that. Or I didn't mean to say no. But I think you're absolutely right on that. I'm sorry. That's OK. Yeah. This is a secondary that, you know, a lot of guy. And even if they decide to interchange those things right and switch those up, I love Lasseter.
I think he's a heck of a player and Stingley gets a lot of the attention there. But I love Lasseter's physicality. This whole group really, physicality is what jumps off the table. You asked about specific players. I'm going to go with Jalen Petriek. They're nickel corners. Absolutely. I absolutely love this guy. I love him coming out of Baylor. I think he's exactly what I want in my nickel corner. He can cover. He's physical. He comes downhill in the run game and hits you hard. I have been a huge fan of Jalen Petriek for a long time. And I think he does the nickel job exactly how you want it to be done. And he's a very underspoken but important part of this defense because they're in nickel so much. And he can do so many different things for them on the back end and in the run game. The Neil Hunter. Tommy Togliac. It's Tommy, please have with the Lasseter. I think it's Togliac. Togliac. Physical. Physical of front, thumping guys of front. What about their safety position? Because we've talked about the defensive front. We've talked about the linebackers. We've talked about the cornerbacks. What's happened at their safety position? Tommy probably thinks a little higher than me because I think if you're going to throw it, throw it with, please.
I think highly of Bullock. I'm fine with Bullock. Blankenship's been picked on a little bit. Blankenship's an old man. Former Eagle. Reed Blankenship's been picked on a little bit this year. He's given up 13 receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns. That might be a spot for them to. Waldo. Yeah, that might be a spot for them. They've kind of struggled to defend the past to start this year. And I think that Blankenship is one of the. Cogs in that machine, if you will, that might have popped out a little bit. Because again, as they got great individual players, but, you know, he's kind of struggled a little bit. And they've been able to, teams have been able to have success moving the ball down. Filled against. It's kind of, I wouldn't expect that from, from this unit, but for whatever reason, it has been the case. Especially when they're rushing the passers-in so well. But Blankenship, I think, has been picked on a little bit. Kamari Ramsey, the safety from USC. I started out really liking him. And then as the process went on, I was like, yeah, I don't know a little bit. They find him. Yeah, they find him a little bit too when they've been dealing with all these guys who are banged up.
But yeah, I would say I'm higher on their corners than I am their safety. Here's all I want you guys to do. I want you to think about this, not from the perspective of what the Texans were coming into this year. And factoring in what they were last year. Looking at just the three games that they've played this season, what is their greatest asset? What do they do best? Stop in the room. And rushing the pass. I would say forget, stop in the run. I think they are the best passers-ins unit in football. Fort and Aperish is on my days. Yeah, it's unbelievable. And Will Anderson, Jr., I think, is the best defensive player in football right now. And that's because Miles Garrett is not on field. Currently, how much are you expecting their pass rush to affect the Cowboys this weekend? I would expect them to have a pretty good effect on Dallas. On both sides. On both sides. And there's nothing against Tyler Dyson or... You don't think that what we've seen from guidance suggested he's ready for this matchup and can actually hold it down on his side. I don't know if it'll get out of hand. But Will Anderson is the best in the game.
Nobody can stop that guy. I think that if it's Miles Garrett... He's getting there. Really? He's getting there. I feel that highly. Wow, that's huge. Now, Miles Garrett is, you know... He's a different dude. Different universe. Right. But Anderson is getting there. Like, he's going to win defensive player of the year, one of these years. Yeah. And it might be with Garrett still in the league, too. I think he's that good. I mean, he's the get off, the power that he's able to play with, the twitch he's got. He's just fantastic and so fun to watch. So, yeah, I think he will have success in this game. Does that mean he's going to have five sacks? No, not necessarily. I think he's not. Yeah, no, he's not called. Please do not be callous. Do not celebrate like Colin Simmons. Just celebrate. He played it normally. He played it normally. Just celebrated by Blake. Yeah, no, I'm still picking the first round. Yeah. But... Right. Would you not? Of course. I think we all would. You're saying, of course you are. Yeah, I'm just... Don't check him. You just tell him keep the celebrations to yourself. Yeah, I can. Celebrate to yourself. Yeah. I think this guy in really good at doing is losing slowly.
That's an asset to an offensive line. He has a few feet is what I call it. You know what I mean? So, even if you do kind of get to him early, he can magic himself into some sort of position that can biome himself just a little bit of time. Because he's so big and long. He's so athletic, so long. Terrence loses a little quicker because his feet aren't as fast. Yeah. So, if you get Terrence quick, we got got quick. So, you want to respect this past rush? You want to respect this past rush? But if we're putting pride and ego aside, I would babysit Terrence a little bit more. Not saying that you shouldn't babysit guidance, but in those, if we got a drop back, try to get something down to feel, let's max it up a little bit to give us a little more time. If it's catching throat, I feel good about Tyler Gaiden kind of existing biome self for a little bit. Okay, so here's what I don't understand. So far this season, this defense, as you guys are describing this defense,
I'm getting the impression you can't do anything on this season. They're a great stop in the run. They have an excellent past rush. They got all world corners. How are teams putting up so many points on them this season? Because your office has to be talented. So, if you look at their first three games, there's Buffalo Bills, there's the Colts and the Bengals. You have a lot of faith in what Joe and Jay Mark can do, Josh Allen probably the best quarterback in the league right now. So, they have found ways to block it up front. And that comes with pressure. That comes with hits. Like I said, they got 49 pressures this year on those same teams. But when you can block it up, there are some opportunities over the middle, behind the linebackers, in front of the safeties, to the deep right of the field. I was surprised at how much, like if you go and look up the film, because we could all do it NFL plus, I don't know if they still. But you can go watch it yourself and type in, deep, deep passes versus Texas. It's a lot of on stingly side. Last it as well, but it's a lot of stingly, and it's a lot of, I'm looking for safeties. It's a lot of thawing it behind the linebackers.
So, if you're going to do it, that's why I say you have to max it up. If you're going to catch and throw, I feel great about pickings running a slant or out versus anybody. A deep ball versus anybody. CD Land, we know what he can do. But if I'm looking for a deep shot, block it up, and there's ways you can find it. It's just that if you're not on your game, if pickings is having an off game, you get a cup of drops somewhere, yeah, they'll beat up on you because they're so talented. But the Cowboys are talented as well. I'm just trying to give a blank statement about who these guys are. Yeah, I get it. And I guess that's where I was getting to is where the vulnerabilities. But what it sounds like is there are vulnerabilities in this defense. You can find places to complete passes if you're talented enough to do so, in which case you would say, Dallas is among some of the, one of the better talented offenses in the NFL. Yeah, offensively Dallas will have no chances in this game, 100%. And they'll have their chances against any defense and with the offense that they've got in the weaponry that they have, the personnel for as good as a corner as stingly is and as highly paid and all that, teams go after him a lot more than you see teams go after some of the high paid,
high level corners. And sometimes he makes him pay because he's a great player. But sometimes he'll, you know, get beat a little bit too. And I think like we talked about earlier, blanket ship is a guy that teams have gone after a watch pointed out the middle of the field. That's especially going to be the case this week with these linebackers being so banged up. But I think that's another reason of it too. They've been hurting a lot of different places. There's lost a lot of guys and, you know, they still have their star players. But I would say the supporting cast around them hasn't been as strong. All right, we're going to take our final break. We will come back. It's time for a little yeti time with AG. We will be back in just a moment. This is Dallas Cowboys.com. How do you turn 16 games? Less because I have to write a story while I'm on the show and I'm multitasking. So I'm able to do both. Let's get back to here. Thank you very much. I'm able to do both things. There's a team. I'm able to do both things. I'm able to do both things. I'm able to do both things. I'm able to do both things. I'm able to do both things. Set up the team. Yeah, my team is doing stuff too.
We all work hard. We all work hard. We're all living. All right. The team like people who work 14, I was here. No. No team maybe. Yeah. Trust me. Yeah. You work for it. Boy, I wish I had one but I give it some time. Give it some time. It's on the rise. He's one of those rising stars. He was rising. Yes. You have time. I have a team. I'm gonna say a name or a thing, and you guys have to describe it in just one word. So it's super simple, but whoever has the most intriguing word will get to pick that person and have them elaborate for a few seconds. I don't like this game. Next, say that one more time. It's very easy. You see, you were typing. No, I was like, sorry. That was so we get punished for winning the game. We gotta explain for being interesting. We just talk about it. So you want us to give one word answer for whatever you give us. You're gonna give us a name or something.
Like, for example, that press God. And you want us to give one word. And you give me one word, and then we'll just whoever has the most interesting, is not about winning, is just... So giffic. So giffic. I don't know what that means. I just made that word up. But like, what do we have to say? I just consider myself to know a lot of words. I've never even heard of that one. Happy job, watch. But like, what do we do? Okay, cool. Let's try it. Let's try it. Let's try it with duck. Let's try it. Okay, just one word. Duck press God. Mississippi. Leadership. Accountable. Okay. So who wins? Kind of boring. That's what they were trying to say. Okay, but, okay. In this scenario, for example, we go with Accountable. Why? Because this week, he'd been talking to the media, I talked to the media yesterday. He was asked once again about what Brian Shaltonheimer said,
about taking accountability, and he's saying, whoa, I'm taking accountability to blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay? That sick of some of y'all, by the way. You can see in his eyes. Oh yeah, but by the way, I think that's every quarterback in the National Football League. They sick and tired of the media. Can I say something to? I love Jay Shalton yesterday. When the video came out, it all came back to football. And everybody was trying to ask some different questions. It's football, bro. I thought you don't watch these. I listen. No, no, no, no, no. This is gonna be a shame. What happened? No, listen, it's so much of this. It's good. It's good. I mean, I'm so chat. It's your chat. It's good. I don't need to hear Coach Shaltonheimer take accountability. I know what he's gonna say. I'll listen to some football stuff that I don't know every now. I didn't need to hear Shaltonheimer hold him. That's the difference. Let's get back to the getty segment. And then it was like, how's the field attack with big bad dairy? Can't feel ball. That's fine. Feel ball. All right, biggest concern this weekend. I'll do this. Go ahead. No, you guys were one is something like biggest concern. You said biggest concern this weekend.
Will Anderson, Jr. That's three words. What's the name? It's one. Well, I was gonna say past rush, but yeah, it would be part of Will Anderson, Jr. I'll even say like this, Terence deal. Health. Elaborate on. Mm hmm. Well, that's got the point. Yeah, man, Cowboys. Look, just give yourself the point. Well, I'm our gaming point. Look, look, explain. Cowboys play a very physical game last week. A lot of guys got hurt, a bunch of travel, soft tissue stuff was going on, short week after this. You know what I'm saying? I really hope that the Cowboys going to this Texas game. And not add nothing else to that, because they got to turn right back around and play another game. Like next week versus another physical defense, I would say. Hey, man, health is going to be big. It doesn't help. They don't help that you're playing an extremely physical defense. The most one of the most. Yeah. Because of the advantage for this weekend. Jack, Brezka.
Crowd. That's interesting. He wants me to pick you. Yeah, he has. No, I got you. Why receivers? What receivers, Doc? All right, Bautch, you got it. So Cowboy fans going to be in Texas state. And we know that, yeah. NRG state. But that's not. I thought you know, I tell you why. Because because when the stadium is so loud in the offense has the silent count, it takes away some of their offense a little bit. But when it's, you know, Cowboy crowd advantage, then that can do all the talking, communicating, get us in the best plays and all that. I mean, I think the Cowboys are a much better home offense crowd noise wise. They are like far away. So let me let me explain something. Yes, there will be a lot of Cowboys fans. They will not be the majority. Even if it's not, they will not be the majority. So best case scenario, what's going to end up happening is both teams are going to have to use. It's going to be like it was in Brazil. There will be a lot of crowd noise for both teams. Both teams will have to deal with noise and will have to adjust to noise. But I don't think this is going to be a majority count,
not at all. Like if you've seen, if you've seen when the Texans came to Dallas, it were a ton of Texans fans at that game. So every time they played them. So I guess there will be a lot of Cowboys fans there. But at best case scenario, little to the split venue, I'm actually think it's probably going to be more like 70, 30 favorite views. That's probably what's going to end up happening. We can disagree. I got the point. We will see. I got the point. Imagine how he's playing. I got the point. It's OK. Go ahead. Get creative with this one. All right. That's all I've been doing. Pressure. Privilege. Wow. That's going to be clipped and put in like a documentary or something. Pressure. Blessing. Blessing. It's a blessing to be under pressure. You just say it because I say it that way. Diamonds. You said privilege. Because I. What?
So we got blessing diamonds and privilege. Privileged. I'm interested to hear Tommy. No, no, no, no. Who won? Not who you interested in. Let him answer after whoever won. Pick one. Pick one. Go ahead. She just did. I don't like that. She just did. That's that politics message. Power politics. That's it. Full time employee policy. Go ahead. Tell us. You've got let us get first two. Yeah. I don't know that one. I got a look at something. Go ahead. No, it's a blessing to be under pressure. That's it. You should have picked me, man. Hey, man. OK, go ahead. I'll give you my point. I'll give you my point. You're so rich. I'll give you my point. Pressure was like, give me my point. Is there something more? That press guy always says that pressure is a privilege. So, hey, man, that press guy, that's your defense going through stuff. You got this tough Texas defense. You got to go up against that. What's it going to look like? It's a lot of pressure on you. That's a recovery from this. That always says pressure is a privilege. And we're going to go out there and beat the Texas.
Come on, Tommy. Can I ask a question? Please, who's under more pressure this week? That shotty or CP? Man, we all are looking at, oh, see, OK. So you had the third one that made it in. It ain't that good, oh, it's one of them coach. Right. It's one of them. And which one is under more pressure between us, too? Let me tell you some. CP gets his corner. Yeah. And you run defense against this offense, this Texas offense, that ain't been running all year. Right. If the Texas go out there and do stuff on offense, we looking at CP. The crazy. If CJ, if CJ has a week, we looking at the whole NFL going to be like, ooh, well, I would pump the brakes on that a little bit because Straut has had a good year. He's had a good year. That's not the point. That's not the point. The point is if that offense led by CJ Straut has a week, I'm talking 320. I'm talking two or three touchdowns. I'm talking David Montgomery running all over everything. If that offense looks great, if they have a week,
everybody's gonna look at this Dallas defense and be like, what is going on? Because there's one thing to give up that to Baltimore Ravens. So whole different thing to get that up to the Houston, Texas. I see what you're saying, but I think there are top five passing offense to start. So if they throw the ball around, I would not be shocked at all. And what was that? I just moved because I don't want to see all the top. Okay. If they've struggled, if they have success running the ball, that would be more of a red flag to me than if they have success throwing the ball. Like if Straut has 320, I don't know if I'd be necessarily shocked because you're super banged up in the secondary and they just haven't played well in the secondary to begin with. I think more, I could see them having a good offensive day. Like the opener against Buffalo. They were throwing the ball all over the place. They had like 36 points or something like that. And it was close. But yeah, Straut has time and we've seen this pass rush. They have struggled to get home. If that's the case, then yeah, I see Straut having a big day. Both point good on defense, but they've been winning. So like we're really been talking about like that.
Everybody's sacks. Everybody's been looking at the Cowboys and the defense is holding you back. And you would imagine that this game will be a turnaround game for that. Please. And not only that, but I look at this defense and I think they've gotten better as the season has gone on. I think that I think they, they're not, don't get me wrong. This is not saying the defense is there. They've arrived. Anything like that. I thought the game they played in Baltimore is exactly what my expectation of them is. You got to be opportunistic. You got to find moments in games where you can make a game changing a place in order to get your offense back on the field and let your offense do what it does. And that's exactly what they did in that game. Now the difference is when you're playing an offense that has struggled. And again, CJ's had a pretty good first part of the year. But the rest of those receivers not named me co-co-co-cowlands have not. Yeah. The running game has not. The offensive line has not. So my point is with all those things that are challenging them, if they come out and have a week, if they come out and they're putting up points and they're moving the ball,
if they do like the Giants did to the Cowboys in week one, there will be alarm bells. That's fine. I would be alarm bells. Get them to him. No, I would just say I agree that you still have the alarm bells if they have success against you. But I'm saying don't be surprised if they're still able to throw the ball pretty well. Like again, it would be the run game. Like if Dave Montgomery has 200 yards rushing, or the Texans run for 200 yards, then it's like, all right, what's going on here? Because that balance is. By the way, you're right, Collins is going, Collins does what he does. Like Collins is one of the best receivers in the National Football League. You're not going to shut him down. And you think about the fact that Dallas is secondary. DeRan Blan is going to be starting. Joey Porter, Jr., even if he does play, is not going to play the entire game. He's going to be there in certain situations and that's it. So you've either got Savon Revel, who we'll see if he plays this week, Kalen Carson and Amir Speed. And then, so over, you can bring up off of the practice squad, maybe if they elevate some guys. So you're thin at that spot. Even if it's not Collins, some of the other guys on that roster, they can beat some of these guys, and they can pick up some yardage for him in the air. That's great logic, but sometimes logic don't matter
when we talk about who's like. Well, yeah, I could say all this, and they could score a negative five points. That's a right-air Christian Park. Like, come on, nah. Yeah, no, it's a big week for him. This is because this is a chance for this defense to really flourish, because they can stop the run. They did it well, relatively well last night. I mean, they did it against Henry. They still give up 200 yards rushing, but they can stop the run on this team and they can get home on the quarterback. Yeah, and that's the thing that you don't, for the first time this season, they don't have to worry about a quarterback that's just going to take off running on them all the time. Now, CJ, get a little bit on you. But he's not worried about in that department. So I just, I feel like if it goes bad, from a standpoint that offense, having a really great day, I do think that the pressure's just going up on CP. I really do believe that. Different personnel, different players and all that, but I remember years past where we've talked about quarterbacks that are immobile and then somehow that day, they become mobile. Like, hey, from... Yeah, it happened. You're like, wait a minute. I thought this guy didn't know. We're just saying backup quarterbacks.
Yeah, yep, yep, yep. All right, to finish the segment, I want you to give me your emotion and then follow by your prediction for this weekend, even though we really know much. Unforgivable. So predictable. Your emotion, you said? So emotion, how are you gonna be feeling at the end of the game? Follow by your picture. And emotion, okay. Jubilee. All right. I think I will be feeling relief because I think the Cowboys win and for me, playing Houston is somewhat personal because my social media is littered with people from Houston because I'm from Houston. And so I don't want to have to deal with all of the people that think it's cool to reach out and be like, Derek, what happened? What happened to your cow? I don't want to do all that. And so I'm like, when the Cowboys win, it's just relief.
I don't have to deal with ignorant people and I don't have to get ignorant in anybody. So, yeah, I would say, you don't do it to them. No, I, look, I'm very, I am very, very good about leaving people alone when they teams lose. Like leave them alone because I want you to leave me alone. I don't want to hear. I don't want, now if it's one thing if we have that kind of relationship and there are a few people we got that kind of relationship. My boy, one of my good friends who's an OU fan, we got that kind of relationship and we will get after each other. It ain't many people in this world I got that kind of relationship because I get mad when my teams lose. So, especially if you don't know me well, but you showing up like, dare, nah man, they didn't get that kind of part. Right, so, right. So, yes, relief will be what I feel, but I do think Cowboys win. I think the score, give me 28, 24. Drunken hat because the character, he's like, it's drunk an emotion.
And the office just wins. Yeah, it is. No, they're angry. It's a multi-layered emotion. What type of drunk are you? I tell great jokes when I'm drunk. I get it real loud. Are you happy when you're drunk? You're already loud. Are you, I start with people. You do that. You get affectionate drunk. I love you, man. I love you. Am I respectful or works so much, man? You don't even have to stay. Derek, you're doing a great thing for us, man. You're doing a great job. Tommy, I love you, man. That's nice. That's nice. But yeah, emotionally, I probably normal, maybe tired a little bit, but we still got no predict. There's a big rest for you. There's a big rest for you. But prediction wise, I think the Cowboys win this game. I think that they have enough to win it, I would say, 24, 21. I think it's going to be a little bit of the slug fest for both of these teams, but 24, 21 Cowboys win. All right.
It's a wrap. Yeah. You don't even give us a prediction. All right. A prediction. Yeah, I can give it. You won. I think, hopefully, relief. Hopefully, a side of relief, because if they actually lose this game, I don't know how we're going to handle the rest of the season, because it's going to be tough. Like, it's going to be tough to make sense of it and to justify the changes or whatever. But I think that the Cowboys are not enough, or motivated enough to go back out there on the field and get a win this time. So hopefully, we do see some of those adjustments reflected in the play calling and some of the decision making. And I think I like your score, Derek, but I'm going to go with like 28, 24, something I like. You know what's interesting? As you said, that I actually don't for me. I know for Cowboys Nation is going to be DEF CON five, is that the worst? It's going to be DEF CON five. They lose this game. It's not going to be for me. I actually think about these next four to five weeks
that it's going to tell me a lot. If they lost this game and they came back and beat Tampa and beat Green Bay, I would be like, all right, they're moving in the right direction. Like, I want to see after they finish the Philly game, that's when I'm going to have an opinion on this is what it means for the season. Because right now, I think it's way too early. They have way too many pieces missing. They got way too much that's in flux. I won't put everything about this season on this week. I think they will put themselves in a real hole if they lose though. And that's that's serious, but I won't have that kind of reaction. I know Cowboys Nation will though. I get that. Most people out there listen like, nah, me, I'm going to feel that way. And I get it. I just don't think I will at that point. Right there with you. I say Ness Six, though. Cowboys got Texans, Buckeneers, the culture in there, somewhere. They got Green Bay after that. Green Bay after that Philly. Then they got Colts and Cardinals. They got Cardinals then the Colts. And then San Francisco. San Francisco. So by the time we get to San Francisco. And Ness Six, though. I know exactly who you are by the time of good.
Well, the thing is how you lose to me, how you lose this game, too, is that's going to determine a lot of how I judge or feel about this team. Because if you go out there and see some of the reoccurring things, and you're like, OK, this wasn't really fixed, we're still making these mistakes or whatever. Then I think that's a strong, how do you say that? Not prediction or vision of maybe what the rest of the season is going to be. And yes, there's still a ton of football left to play. And we hear that all the time. But at one point, you got to start seeing some changes. Yeah. I'll say this. If a mere speed is out there just getting beat up, I'm not going to think that means anything for the future. Like he's not going to be playing in a few weeks. He's a guy that was a backup to the backup. And he's having to be forced into duty because of injury. So again, it depends. I think you're absolutely right. How it happens will tell me a lot. If guys you're counting on for the future are not playing well,
that's when if the offense can't do anything, that's where I'm going to be a little more concerned. Because I do think this office, if you're going to have any success, this office is going to have to be able to match up against anybody and win against anybody. So yeah. All right. Appreciate you guys, Jones. We'll be back on Monday. We'll let you know what, when riding wrong for the Cowboys till then for Vachal and Barty, Tom and Yara Shamberg, our CM Derrick Eels. And this has been the break. Live on Dallas Cowboys.com radio. OK, so this has been a production of Dallas Cowboys.com and the Dallas Cowboys football club. How about this Cowboys? Yeah.
