Colts Draft LSU Safety Haulcy, Strengthen Safety Room

0:00On April 25th, the Indianapolis Colts snagged LSU safety AJ Halsey with the 78th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Halsey brings serious experience, logging nearly 3,000 career snaps at both free safety and in the box. He saw it against the run per PFF grades and flashed in coverage with eight interceptions plus 10 pass breakups over the last two seasons. Meanwhile, the Colts beefed up their safety room this offseason by signing Nacer Adderly, Jonathan Owens and Juan Ye Thomas while Hunter Wooler sticks around too, all battling next the cam by them. That said, there was real doubt if any of those guys could lock down a steady roll opposite by them, leaving some gaps in the secondary. Now Halsey jumps right into the mix with a real shot at snaps from day one, deepening what looks like a crowded but competitive spot for the Colts.
