It's football and other F words right here on 104 5 the zone. Wherever you take in your live broadcast, Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, YouTube, join the comments. Let us know how you're feeling as the Tennessee Titans fall to 0-2 and we are here tonight to preview the New York Giants. I would be remiss to say driven by Lions Ford. Well, we still can fit in a Lions Ford promo. Well, we will. We will. Uh, Busson did ask earlier today on cover two. He is doing lawn care. And he wanted to know what the actual I think I don't know if it's the stressing from lawn care and the candle scent that was that was like his he said to you at a spreadsheet.
Is that a euphemism? Is he a trim and some bush? If you know, I mean, I like I legit think I'm already going down low on battery here. You need this one over here. No, I got one over here. Okay. Um, but he did say he asked you for a candle recommendation, the cover to chat. Yeah. This time of year, um, Yankee has a really good profile of like late summer early fall. So like you don't want the apple, the pumpkin stuff too soon because it's still been so hot, but you also don't want like the coconutty, the beach fragrances or anything like that. But there is a niche in there. If you find them, uh, there's a candle called. Glistening leaves that, uh, is from free leaves from tonight's show is going to be fun. There's, there's a fragrance called, called glistening leaves. Yeah. That is from the fantastical fall collection from a couple of years ago. Um, so it is on sale at most of your local Yankee candle outlets.
It's usually it's back in the back because it's older. To me, I don't remember what the actual description of the fragrance is. But to me, it kind of smells like sawdust and grapefruit. And it is so good. You get like the woodsie outdoors kind of scent, still like lingering from summer, the citrusy, you know, kind of thing, but there's a very natural woodsie smell to it that I think is a perfect candle for this time of year. Four, four raking leaves. Yeah. Yeah. I would also recommend a candle called sweet togetherness. Yeah. It is to me, it's some sort of like pair fragrance. But to me, it smells like a combination of fig. I'm a big, big guy. I like fig on pizza. Fig and tobacco pipe. Yes. Pipe tobacco. I mean, yeah, those are the two that I'm burning right now. So it was the fantastic four and it was the fig.
It is a glistening leaves and sweet togetherness. I got you. If you can find a woodland road trip, that is probably one of my top three favorite fall, early fall, late summer candles. Let me ask you a question. If you had to choose one car from one dealership to do a road trip and it would be lions Ford. Absolutely. Which football and other F words, if you didn't know this already, Zach, is driven by lions Ford, the best car buying experience I've ever had in my life. I say it all the time, two lions Ford vehicles sitting in my driveway at home. I can't imagine going anywhere else to buy a car at this point. Our friends down in Lewisburg, Tennessee drive a little to save a lot at lions Ford. There you go. Yeah. By the way, I'm Stony Keely. He's Zach lions who you can hear one to three PM central time on cover two with blame Bishop and Zach lions here on one or four five of the zone. And of course, we've got the bad boy of one or four five of the zone on the boards
tonight. Ross, we do. Ross, how are you feeling tonight, my man? I'm good, man. Very good. As a matter of fact, very good. Wow. All right. Maybe he'll be generous on the grading scale tonight. It's been a little low. Last week, I feel like we've done pretty well. Last week, we took a step back, but I think it was because we found a sore subject that we, we, we kind of hung on to a little bit too long. But that happens. Do you think they'll make a David O'Rossal like movie like they are of us, like they are of Madden? Who would play you? Ooh, Clark Duke. I don't know who Clark Duke is. No, everybody knows everybody knows because I can call that. All the time. I don't know. Even though we don't have the same hair anything, but he could probably do me. I don't know who would play me. Willie Robertson. No, Braun Strowman. You by the way, Braun Strowman's about to be on a reality show that me and Lauren watch.
They're doing this thing called celebrity. I'll seeker millionaire. Yeah. And basically what happens is they give it, you know, one person, the millionaire box. Yeah. And then you kind of have to guess who has it and you go through all these things, but Braun Strowman's one of those guys. He's making the world. He's not the only former world heavyweight champion to have one. Do you know who's also on the show? Do you know the other one is? I don't. David Arquette, uh, famed WCW champion, David Arquette, which by the way, I saw, um, was that? Oh, was it Roy Rumble? Ready to rumble. Ready to rumble, salt twice in theaters. I, you know, I'm not ashamed. Hey, so that twice in theaters and thought, saw eight ligate freaks by myself. So I'm a big David Arquette fan of barely you are. You are. Let's see, how, how are the vibes in the chat tonight before we dig into the series? Here's what we got. We got Campbell who says who, whoa, getting in live, bring back the sunglasses in my opinion.
And it seems a little racist because that people think I look Asian, but that's okay. I don't see that comment. It's not on YouTube. Yeah, Campbell won seven dash on YouTube. Oh, yeah. Okay. I see it now. He goes, uh, team Ramrod says you don't want that. David Arquette, Russell sucks. You know what? I, that's, that's going to be a controversial opinion. But I think I might low key be with team Ramrod on that one. So David Arquette, Russell did the, uh, uh, uh, uh, uncharted film, right? Did he? Yeah. Did he? I know he did. Uh, I know he did. American hustle, which I really liked. But there's a lot of the silver lines playbook. One of those guys that like his name on a film is like supposed to mean something, but he's got. Maybe I am, uh, maybe I'm mistaken, but there's a lot of, he did three kings, I heard Huckabee's the fighter. Three films. Good. I'd have to watch it again. I don't trust. It's just clenching in them. Right. I don't, I don't trust my younger self anymore.
After I've rewatched a lot of films, I liked when I was younger. Yeah. Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Well, I want you to pull up your broken, I want you to pull up your broken lizard thing. We almost got away with this. Why? Super troopers is number one. No, beer fest is number two club dread can be number three or whatever. Beer fest is number two. I agree. Yeah. But super troopers number one. I mean, I like super troopers. It's fine. You had it six or seven or something. I listen, you won't find, you will not find a bigger broken lizard fan than me. Yeah. Being a fan of something does not mean that you actually know what you're talking about. As we have seen with Tennessee Times fans. Yeah. Well, that's true. So super troopers is fine. It's just, you know, you can kind of tell their, it is the movie of movies. As when it comes down to like super troopers is probably the reason that they get to keep making movies. It's probably the reason that they, they gain notoriety for sure.
Let's build the club dread. I don't think so. I've, I've, I rewatched super troopers recently and was kind of like, they still seem like they're trying to figure this whole thing out. A lot of the humor is quite soft, moroc, quite cheap, if I will. Where was slam and salmon on your thing? It was pretty high. I think it's underrated. People don't remember being on your list. Was it? Yeah. It was, I, I've seen all of them except for super troopers three. I loved super troopers too. People gave it a hard time, but it was, to me, it was phenomenal. No, it was, it was, you could tell like, I don't know. Once they, a lot of people don't like club dread though. The club dread is considered like their worst movie. I'll be honest, I've not watched club dread since it came out in theaters. Oh, I watch it all the time. I actually, it cannot be that good. I have two DVD copies of club dread because I love it so much that every time I see it in a store, just to case, someone like gets up to your DVD and they,
DVD player break it because such a bad movie. You're like, oh, I gotta have it. I got one. Yeah. It's my backup copy bill Paxton in that movie is so funny. He was the best part of the movie. I love the murder mystery element. Broken lizard is far more clever than people give him credit for. No, I agree. I just feel like it's not as elevated as why expected from like super troopers to beer fest. Yeah. Amazing transition, but there's a couple of different movies in between them. That's their run. No, there's not. Yeah. Club dread super troopers club dread. Yeah. Fest. So that's the line slam and Sam and before beer fest. No, it's after beer. It's after beer. Is it really? Yeah. I didn't even know slam and salmon existed. I thought beer fest was their last movie when because they switch is slim event. Is it slam and salmon was like oh nine. If I'm not mistaken, I know it because it had Kobe smolders in it.
But I thought it was way before that. No. And then they did Tacoma FD or whatever, which I haven't watched. So good. But I would I would like to and then quasi a film that they had kind of. I haven't watched that yet. It is, you know, people watch. I always recommend Broken Lizard with the caveat of, hey, if you're looking for something elevated, then you're probably not going to find it with this comedy troupe. But if you like their style, quasi is to me, it's one of my favorites. Also holds a special place in my heart because I got to go to the press screening and then got to interview the Broken Lizard guys and Adrian Policki, who is in quasi. And that was a really cool moment in my career. But I think it's really underrated. How did we get on this? Because you're terrible at movies. You know, listen, okay, to quote a manual, Acho.
Oh, okay. I'm an intellectual. Oh, so. So I'm the winner for net who's going to say, oh, I can, I can talk intellectually, but you know, I can also show up at your house and beat the shit out of you. You should be on hooked on phonics is what I'm saying. All right. You saying you bring up my movie takes because I look so pretentious. I, I just think you're wrong. I'm not, I'm not really big into like downy movie takes because here's thing. Because you told me in confidence on the way to the bar that Jackson had only watched Iron Man three before he watched so funny before he watched in-game Avengers in game, Avengers in game, which is the conclusion of an 11 year story. This mother, this mother fucker Jackson, he knows better than tell me this shit, but you just put it out on on Twitter and everything.
And I just think it's slapping the face because it is like this is the thing about Grimlands. We go back to Grimlands, which is Grimlands is about to get another Grimlands movie. I don't know. He's a terrible movie. Fanta is the so I cannot believe the best Christmas movie in America. Grimlands. I hated that. It goes Batman returns. No goes die hard. Then Batman returns to Grimlands. Three best Christmas movies. Grimlands was awful blade was awful. That's always when people get shut up. No, no, no, no. Blade was not awful. It's you would not have in game if not for blade. You know how many times I saw blade in theater with my dad twice? Because I mean, like, that's it. How old were you when you saw it? I don't know, whenever it came out, was it like 96 97 or something? Was that your older than that? 10 years old because that's who that movie's made for. People with a 10 year old intellectual. Crystal Method.
Sound the soundtrack is amazing. Crystal. The only other. Yeah, Crystal. Name three songs. Gimme. Oh, shit. I'm a little old and a little drunk right now. Okay. Okay. The author of them would be from the play. Soundtrack, by the way. Crystal Method. Oh, shit. Remember. Anyway, Crystal Method. Whole soundtrack. A blade. Okay. It's not it's not as memorable as Spider-Man one soundtrack or Daredevil soundtrack. The Daredevil soundtrack ripped. I mean, you had Evan Fsons. Yeah. That was a introduction to Evan Essens. That was well, first, yeah, I'm with you. That was also a spiritual awakening about Evan Essens because like goth girls. You know what I mean? That took me to a whole new level. You know where I stand on God's boards. We do have to. I have we can go for an hour on God's girls.
I mean, like let me say something about my immortal by Evan Essens. If you guys have not heard that song or remember that song. She got some pipes. Oh, let me. Let me. She went to MTSU too if I'm not mistaken. No way. Did she from this middle Tennessee area? Harvard of the South. That somebody is from. Somebody. Somebody look that up. Make sure I'm not wrong. She is from this area. And I've been pumping that music. There's no way that she's from Milton C. All right. You talk about. I mean, you talk about the Titans. I'm going to effort and answer on this. So back when Amy Lee. Yeah. Was doing Daredevil. The Titans were pretty good. Now they're not very good. And now Daredevil, which you're born again or whatever is now ending with the season.
There's no like I knew Topanga lived in the area. You know, she was a mule. She's at the Mule Queen. Mule Daybreak. Topanga. Yeah. She's still got it. That's all I heard. Yeah. The way I, you know what? I got to look this up. I don't think Amy Lee's from here. I feel like that. She's from like Arkansas. But she went to Imptus you. I believe so. I feel like that would have like came across my radar at some point. Lee attended Middle Tennessee State University to study music theory and composition for film scoring. But left after a semester to solely focus on Evan Essence. How about that? That is crazy. What's your mind? Crazy. You did famous blue radar. Amy Lee, Kelly Holcomb. Dwight Dasha Joe Cratic is still coaching somewhere. He's an offensive coordinator for for some school somewhere.
All right. We got to talk about the. This is the shit that people complain about on Reddit. They really did. You read Reddit. That's a ridiculous place to read stuff. I haven't I give me credit. I haven't read Reddit in a long time since I have stopped desperately trying to find 15 things to write about every single day. I'm going to ask you a question real quick. Okay. More victories because that was the big discussion throughout the entire week on radio. And really maybe not the entire week. Item number one on my show notes here. I know you can see if you're watching on YouTube. You didn't have to do the peak behind the curtain. I was just trying to make it seem like. You know, for people for people that think this is not we don't prepare seriously for this show. I have show notes. Here's my thing. Oh, I got I'm I'm ready for this. I I think Lucas had the best take of the week on this more of victory thing. Okay.
And it was looking at buck dead in the eyes and saying, you're just not a real sports fan. You wouldn't get it. Hmm. Okay. White was buck very. Bucks very anti moral victory. Bucks very anti anything. Okay. I mean like anti movies, anti music. I mean, you could just say anti anything. And you probably it's going to land somewhere on the book on the book. Bulls eye. I low key fuck with that though. There's a lot of stuff that I'm sorry. You're not a are you where you are on the moral victories though. It pisses me off, man, because I tweeted on Sunday that I don't care what the outcome of the game is. This is like in the fourth quarter. I'm just happy to see this team show some signs of life. Yeah. I got fucking grilled. They're granted to be fair. It was probably about 50 50 people that were just like yeah, man, for real. Like I'm just relieved to see this team do something. But then there were other people that somebody chimed in and was like,
you're promoting a losing mentality. And I just want to tell people I'm not a fucking Tennessee Titan. I don't play for the team. It would be one thing if these people in the locker room were saying, oh, you know what, we had a great moral victory today. If you listen to the fucking players, they're saying, yeah, we did some good things, but it's still a loss in it. Fucking sucks. That's how I expect players to react. I'm not a player. I'm not a coach. I'm an analyst. My job is to glean information from each game so that I can come on this show so I can go on the radio and I can project and I can discuss and dissect this football team. I am looking for information to intake. And each game is a new opportunity to gain information. And you know what else is that? Aside from an analyst, I'm a fucking fan. And I love this team and I want to see this team do well.
I am committed to this. But when I go to Kiki's breakfast cafe in Mount Juliet, Sunday morning with my wife, because I like to enjoy breakfast with my wife on game days, because I know I'm not going to see her all day, because I'm working. When I go there and I hear people talking about the Titans, and there's an old man sitting in the booth across from us, and he's asking every motherfucker that walks by. You're going to go home and watch them Titans today. And everybody that walks by says, no, I'm kind of out right now. I want to go home and, you know, do some yard work or get outside or something like that. We lose sight. I think people that listen to this show that watch us, they're smart people. I think they're die hard fans. We lose sight of the fact that our neighbors might not be watching football and other efforts. Our neighbors might not be listening to the station every hour of every day. We are a fuck them. We are. Yeah, fuck them. We are a die hard community. But for the most part, most of the people in my social circle
are watching football. They're fans of the Titans in a social capacity. They like to get together with their family. They like to sit down and relax on a Sunday. They like to watch a game. Maybe, you know, if they get a dollar ahead and they can afford to, they're going to go to the game, have a couple beers, have a good time with their family and go home. Those people are making decisions on what to do with their Sundays based on the output, the team, the output the team is putting out. Man, how's fucking hot there? You get your, keep going. Those people are making decisions based on the things they see on the field. All of those people that said, no, I'm not going to go home and watch the Titans. I've got better things to do. Those are the people that are looking at this and they're saying, you know what, this team's not good enough. It's a waste of my time to sit and watch them. So if I get to a point where I start seeing, hey, man, they hung in there with the Philadelphia Eagles. Well, guess what, Zach? I might sit down and watch the next fucking game.
That's where the moral victories are important for the fan base. All right. I'm tired of people acting like I set the tone in the Titans locker room. You all think the Titans are listening? Oh, God, Stoney Keely said, my gosh, they suck and there's no reason for them to play the game. And then, Jason Slater is like, you know what I'm saying? Like there is, we have to think about, we bring this up a lot on this show, context and nuance. If Cam Ward is going to the podium and talking about a moral victory, I get being a little irritated. But we are fans. We are analysts. There is plenty that I can watch that tape and I can glean from to project how this team is going to perform. Because if we're just talking about there's no such thing as moral victories, that is so reductive. My job as an analyst's act would then be under that logic, team loss, team bad. See in a week. But no, we watch the tape. We look for signs of improvement.
We comment on these things and you know what? From our position, from our position, for what we're doing for this show, we can now sit here and say, hey, you know what? They did this, this and that. I think I think this might have been a turning point. And we can say, you know what? If they play like that, then maybe they can beat the giants. And if I'm a fan, I can look at that Eagles game and I can say, you know what? Maybe this team isn't dead. Maybe I will go sit in my neighbor's garage with a six pack with our Lions Ford vehicle sitting in the driveway. And I might watch the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. So miss me, miss me with that there's no such thing as moral victories. And miss me with the, you're promoting a losing mentality. Unless they're playing my shit in the locker room, as like, well, let's see what Stony wrote this week on stack in the inbox. Let's see what Stony said on football and other F words this week. I'm not promoting shit.
My mentality is not what the mentality of the Tennessee Titans take on. So for the purposes of discussion, let's just say there is such a thing as a moral victory. It wouldn't be a labeled a moral victory if there wasn't ever such a thing as a moral victory. It wouldn't be our now vernacular. We wouldn't have a word for it if it didn't exist. I have to say that was the angriest I've ever seen you be angry. So mad. I'm tell I was checking Twitter when we were sitting in this studio during Titans talk back and people were like, fuck that. We want to win. And I'm like, why don't you do something about it? Shit head on Twitter. Go suit up. Go suit up and play left tackle for this team then. This, this fucking chat is loving everything you just said. Are they really? I can't. I'm trying to race the law in the chat. I love recent more. And those are my people right there. They are like, come on, Stoney. Reese, uh, we had a conversation about the cats.
I'll just let Reese know both of my cats had vet appointments this week. Perfectly healthy cats, including the one I found in the middle of the road. I just got to say this. I think Lucas was on to something. And because the people are saying, obviously, athletes, and I get it. Like, I totally understand the athlete mentality. Yeah. When it comes to this whole thing, I'm saying that, yeah, there's no moral victories. You lose your loser. I totally get it. Yeah. But there is a balance of trying to talk about this team that is always losing recently. And trying to figure out where can they get better? Where can they capitalize? Or where? What can they build off of for the future? Yeah. And that was the big thing for me this week was trying to figure out what is the balance. And then I kind of heard Lucas say, and, and, and, and I think he's right.
Like these people who say in the media, there's no moral victories. This is a lot like it's not a must win game. Yeah. I think that in the sense, the literal sense, I think everybody's correct. Not every game is a must win game or whatever. Yeah. And there are no moral victories. But the same time when you're a fan that's going to beat down and beaten down and beaten down, time after time after time again, there's no moral victories. If Indiana did this against Ohio State, or there's no moral victories if the University of Tennessee did this against Alabama, like four point wins or four point losses. Yeah. Like to me, it's, it's, it's crazy because there are
bright points in defeat. Yeah. There are things that you did right that you learned from. That's why it's a battle, not a war. Yeah. And I think that's where it kind of gets lost. Like every game is a battle. The war is the playoffs. You have to get to a certain, you have to perform well, learn lessons, come up with battle plans, and try to get to the end game. It's like you can't have, you can't go watch end game and not watch Iron Man 1. Yeah, Jackson. You fucking idiot. Like you can't do that. Like they, they're just lost. Yeah. And I think so many people forget about the in-between stuff and forget about the fans. And I do think like, I think media does forget about what how the fan feels. Absolutely.
Because we talk about it. Media thinks you have to just rip out your fandom, fucking throw it away because you have to be biased. And again, I say this, if you have to rip out your fandom to make sure you're not biased, then that's on you. That's not on us that can actually do both. Yeah. Amen. And I think that at a certain point, you have to look at this game against Philadelphia Eagles and walk away saying, all I wanted against the Eagles, and I literally, when I was, I'd pick behind the curtain. Okay, here we go. So when I do the dossier on stacking the inbox, I duplicate the previous one, and then just go through it and then I delete stuff. You know, I just try to keep the format the same.
Yeah. And I was looking as to read through last weeks about the Eagles. And my opening paragraph said, I just want to see a competent competitive NFL team against the Eagles. See some fire. And you know what I saw against Eagles, a competent NFL team. They lost. And I fucking hate it. Yeah. But they were competent, competitive NFL team. That's all I want sometimes because you know, it's a step in the right direction. In the NFL, a competent, competitive NFL team can get you eight wins. And they haven't been competent and competitive in like three fucking years. But these shitheads who think they have to just be so objective. Yeah. And just circle and just wash themselves in the space and separate themselves from the fandom and everything. Yeah. They don't get it. And I think it's, I think it's perfectly acceptable with the way that Lucas said it.
You wouldn't get it. There you go. You don't get it. And I think for us, it's like, yes, I understand they lost and it fucking sucks. And I understand why the athletes, the coaches and all the stuff say that it sucks. For sure. And they're losers because they lost. But there's also going to be film in there where they're saying, well, if we just do this or if we just do that, if we just tweak this, if we change that, if you just do this and you do that, and then I'll throw it this way, you'll catch it this way, you'll defend it that way. They would have won that game. Yeah. Yeah. And that's a game against a team that has gone five years winning record in the row. Two seasons back to back NFC East champions. And they've been to the Super Bowl twice. They got a Super Bowl in there and a Super Bowl win. I and you went toe to toe with them despite everything going on.
And they are the far superior talent on the roster. Nobody gave you the chance that you gave them. Nobody you said 49 6 or 49 9. 49. Yeah, I did. And so like nobody gave you that chance. Yeah. Moral victory. And if you want to call something different like the people, the fucking losers talk about the little digits can be a must win. If you want to call it tone setting, I don't know whatever. It was a little bit of victory because you kind of saw that, oh, this team actually can show up. It has some fight. It has some fight. Any other thoughts on the Eagles game before we before we move on? Yeah, I think just real quick. I think the special teams is a pretty big let down through two weeks. We talked about this show. We talked about a lot on cover too. And here's my other thing. Man, this could take us down a whole nother road. I'm tired of people in the media saying,
well, nobody's talking about something when clearly people are talking about just listen to better shows. Maybe that could be succinct. Hey, all right. There we go. That if you're not hearing people talk about some particular thing like I heard people talk about, oh, nobody's talking about special teams. I don't know. Blaine's been talking about special teams since last week. Yeah. Oh, nobody's talking about the run defense. I don't know. We've been talking about the run events or ever. Y'all have been on it. Give me a fucking break. Just listen to better shows and maybe you could be more educated, especially if you're in the media. I would say one more item I want to call out is that Jalen Hertz, the first of all, the Philadelphia Eagles on top of everything you said, all their accolades, that group, the core of that group has been playing together. That offensive line, they've got a system there. Those guys have been playing for quite some time together. They've got a defensive coordinator that is arguably the best in the league.
They've got it together. That is a legit super bowl. Chats going off the rails. I'm never going to be able to catch up, by the way. Oh, well, that's good. That's good. I'm I'm in trying to catch up to the chat, but I can't read them. That's all right. I'm just saying, like, Chats loving the show so far. I, I had too much of that go-go juice in our production meeting. I can't read. I can't see. I didn't bring my readers with me. But also, I will say, Jalen Hertz was really savvy in that game in a way that I haven't heard a lot of people talk about. Robert Salas defense obviously doesn't blitz a whole lot. But when they did blitz, you saw Jalen Hertz convert a lot of that. Those those plays because he was very good. I haven't heard this. People say this about Hertz. He picked up he knew where the blitz was coming from. Eight of nine for 72 yards and zero sex. And he very quickly threw the ball to the space that the blitz vacated, right? So if there's like, you know, Robert Salas likes to blitz from the slot.
Marcus Harris had a few reps. So from that area where he runs from is now open because he's not there. Hertz was able to identify that. And whether it was directly throwing to the space, like to the flat to say, one, Barkley, or understanding, hey, if he's leaving that zone, all of a sudden, I've got with two receivers to my right. I know those guys are in one-on-one situations now. And I can throw to the boundary and know they're going to get there. I thought, yes, we talk about Hertz and the big plays and we talk about the rushing ability. His ability to identify the blitz and attack it was phenomenal in this game. And I think it's something, you know, give Hertz his credit, man. That's a good fucking quarterback. The way people talk about him sometimes is like he's lucky to be there. And that's not the case, man. That guy can orchestrate and run an offense. And he can make the throws that it takes. You own my hot take. Well, let's hear it.
Here's my hot taken. I said this many times when, um, was that the 2020 draft? Was that Jalen Hertz's draft, 2020 or 2021? 2020, yeah. That because I was daring to an Evans draft in Isaiah Wilson, right? Yeah, it was. I said lean in that draft. I thought that Jalen Hertz was the closest thing you got to steep in a while. That's funny. And I think that the people who say that about cam ward are fucking ludicrous. It's funny because you say that because if you go to sodrosnetwork.com and search Jalen Hertz, you will find an article that I wrote leading up to that draft. I believe the headline is Jalen Hertz would be a perfect fit for the Tennessee Titans. Yes, I thought that if you wanted a guy, I always felt like the Titans never planned for the next step until it's too late.
It's till they have to get a guy. Right. Until they have to get a guy. I think Malik Wallace was unfortunately that guy for them. We'll love us. And then we'll we'll love us because Malik Wallace and not end up well. I loved even after he left Alabama. I thought that Jalen Hertz was a lot better than people gave him credit for. I thought he's a winner. Yeah, there's something to be said for that too. And that's and well, that's what Steve McNair was. Steve McNair wasn't the most refined passer. He wasn't the most accurate person, but he was a winner. And I always thought that like now's the time to draft Jalen Hertz in the second. Yeah. And let him develop behind because I also thought he'd be good fit with Frabel. Yeah. And it was kind of ridiculous to me that you saw it go over the way that did with the Tennessee Times when you had a shot. You had a shot.
Yeah. And it was so apparent to me. And then I hear these things about cam ward and I'm not trying to not try and use this as a weighted downplay cam ward's leadership. Bring things. But it's like, no, man, that's he's I don't get the McNair vibes. I think he's a different kind of player. I kind of do too. He's his own. He is his own style. Whereas Jalen Hertz was kind of a throwback style. He is. That's a great. That's a great way to put it. There's a new age. If you want to call him new age McNair, I mean, I'm not really going to, you know, like get mad at you or anything. But like Jalen Hertz is a lot closer to McNair than cam ward is. I don't think that's very hot of a take. Well, I don't know what the the shows can say or the chas can say, but that always is felt like a hot take. Well, someone's getting on to us for using language, the sort of language,
which by the way, welcome to football and other F words. They let us do that around here. Um, okay. Well, we'll put a bow. Oh, no, no, he says that whoa, whoa, whoa, does one of her five, the glaze allow the sort of language? Oh, well, I told you I'd in bring my readers. And I had all the. I like go go juice. I couldn't read the bottom of it. Basically, he's making fun of one of five the zone for being. No, I know. Yeah, I get it now. I couldn't get it. I couldn't read that as well. I'm saying I don't necessarily disagree. Okay. All right. Um. So we'll put that Eagles game to bed then. Okay. I want to ask you before we talk about the giants, a very interesting idea that I heard this week. And I caught Benjamin Solaac on book rising show. And something that you and I have talked about, I don't know if I've said it on the show before. Or if it's been one of those conversations at the bar sort of thing, but just to reiterate like the Robert solid defense.
Um, there is a bit of a predictable nature to it. And I kind of wanted to get your opinion and have a discussion about whether or not you think Robert Sola's defense is predictable. And to layer that, does it really matter if it's predictable, if it works? Well, I think to answer your last question, no, it doesn't matter. It works. Works. It works. It's a result you just got to get it to a point where it works. I think that's the issue. Yeah. Is that we're not to the point yet where it actually works. And that is worrisome. Yeah. But there's a lot of things that games, games speed cannot prepare for. There's a lot of things that games scenarios cannot prepare you for because there are people across the way equally or maybe sometimes smarter than you. Yeah. Game planing against your team that you may not have game plan foreign practice.
Yeah. That you may not have game plan foreign to joint practice. That you may not game plan foreign your OTA's film sessions, whatever. Yeah. So there's certain things that you, oh, I have to live it to learn it. But I do think there's an interesting thing that Ross brought up, even though he's not producer of our show currently because, you know, Joseph cannot let his wife actually raise a child without him being in another room just watching TV or something. Right. Yeah. Whatever he's doing. I'm paternity. But Ross brought up that there's an issue with this in this defense where these players do not know their mid points. Ross, would you like to expand? It's on, you know, you talked a lot about cover six and the Titans playing that. I just noticed it like, especially on that last drive, it was Micah Robinson who was the suspect on the one play I was looking at. But when you're in cover two and you're the corner, typically you're supposed to midpoint.
So if you have a high load smash type of concept with a corner out and a flat route, you were supposed to try to play in the middle of the two preferably more towards the upfield route rather than the flat route. And they just don't know how to do that. And that's the thing. They don't know how to do it. So is that at some of this is going to be experience. And I'm asking this question just broadly. I don't expect him by answer, but like whose fault is that they don't know it heading into week two? Yeah. And now we're in a week three. How close are we to knowing it? And that's the thing we talk about this being a young team in terms of actual age. Yeah. It's also a young team in terms of actual knowledge within the scheme. And I'd be curious to know. I haven't really thought about it until now, but like, what did a Laonte Taylor play in for the Saints? Was it something similar? Like what did Cornell flat play in for the Giants? Was it something similar? We know Marcus Harris playing for Denard Wilson.
Marcus Harris was playing outside under Denard Wilson. So he's like a different position altogether. So maybe there is something to say about the intricacies like you're still working out the details of this. I really like that from Ross. I had not, I had not really thought of it that way. But yes, like if you watch like the play charts and everything, they diagram the cornerbacks like, okay, you've got to be kind of available to take on either responsibility. If the ball goes high, you've got to be able to get in position to address it. If the ball goes low, you've got to be in position to address it. And that does kind of feel like we're not all on the same page together right now. And things are slipping through the cracks. So to that point, yeah, you do kind of hope that gets better. Maybe it does get better with time. I go back to the predictable nature of the defense.
And when I heard that, I thought about Robert Salah back in the summertime saying, our defense is simple for us, difficult for the opponent. And we talked about that a little bit on this show. Simple, if you're a defender in this defense, it's simple in the sense that your job is kind of streamlined, so to speak, like there's not a whole lot of like moving parts, smoking mirrors, like playing in simple, like Robert Salah wants to like rush for and play like zone coverage behind it. First and second down, that is going to be pretty predictable. And then when he does mix things up and maybe he'll walk a line back or up or maybe he'll blitz a corner, a nickel, that happens on third down. And then they kind of bow up in the red zone. Maybe they'll add a body at the line of scrimmage. They'll play more man coverage.
That sort of thing. I think we saw the full extent of that defense when he was head coach of the New York Jets and he had personnel at every level to do what he wanted, which was kind of the year later in his tenure. Yeah. But I think if you go back and watch, I went back and looked at my notes from watching the 2025 San Francisco 49ers defense where they were down to like their six and seventh linebacker. They were dire straits when it came to personnel. And he was running this stuff that kind of looks a lot like what the Titans are running now where it is a little simple, a little predictable. And if you go back and watch that Seattle Seahawks playoff game, man, Sam Darnold carves them up. And it's because of that predictable nature. You get a veteran quarterback in here like we saw Gino Smith do in week one that has seen this defense before. They're going to be able to find the soft spots between those zones and experienced offensive coordinator like Frank Reich.
He's going to know how to attack that defense. They're going to call plays to attack it. Quarterbacks going to execute. It's going to look bad. The premise of this thing in my opinion, this is just based on my film study. It looks like this team on defense very much bend, don't break. We don't give a fuck. How much you run the ball? How much you throw the ball? We're going to play deep to eliminate big plays. And when you get to the red zone, that's when we're going to bow up. We're going to do things a little bit differently. And we're going to keep you out of the end zone. And for the most part, that is worked. But for the most part, you've been able to keep them out further from the end zone. Those plays have been able to happen in three minutes. It's seven minutes. And I think that's the issue for this defense is that it's having a hard time finding. It's time of possession balance that is allowing. And in such, your offense is having a hard time getting into its rhythm because you're not stopping the the opposing team's offense
again off the field. Your team is having less time to find its rhythm while you're doing this bend, don't break off it or defense. I have a question and I promise I can tie it into this. Did Matthew Stafford throw what was it like six picks all of last season? I couldn't tell you off. Yeah, it was single digit though, right? Yeah. You remember the one he threw against the Titans? The look we were in pre snap and what the actual call was. Yes. Cody Barton was mugged up there in two minute drill and Cody sprints from a mug look to like a kind of semi deep flat zone and picks it off. And the reason I bring that up is like I feel like a lot of the talking point is you can't fool veteran quarterbacks like a Stafford or Gina. They've seen it all, right? Yeah. Yeah. When you can and like when we talk to teams disguising stuff on defense pre snap, people always say, well, they're trying to throw the quarterback off. Yes, but it doesn't just affect the quarterback. If I'm lined up out there receiver, I'm trying to read the defense pre snap. It's not just the quarterback. Everybody's trying to read the defense pre snap. So I've always
liked defenses that do that stuff a little more than just line up and play. And I get it takes time which might be the case right now, but I would like to see them implement some of that the further the season goes along. It also, oh man, we're talking we're going to go down a rabbit hole here. Well, hold on. Hey, Ross can you come in here so I can go pee. Yeah. It also, well, I can band well. No, no, keep on going. I mean, he's going to walk in here. Well, I didn't want. I was thinking if you get up and Ross isn't here yet, nobody's going to hear what I'm what I'm saying. Talking about the linebackers and kind of how like they're kind of a key component of this thing, right? It's like they've got to kind of have the feel for depth when they're dropping. It doesn't help. Listen, I'm ecstatic. Anthony Hill Jr. is leading the league in tackles right now. But when the opponent runs dagger and Anthony Hill turns and runs with the
clear out route, even though the safety is already captured over top of it or the underneath guy doesn't get enough depth like we saw. Yeah. And now like the dig underneath is wide open because the guy was playing without outside leverage. Nobody's inside to threaten the window. It's wide open. Like that's that's a that's a teaching moment for Anthony Hill, right? And like you said, like the depth, we've seen it with him in a couple of games before. It's like you're not getting deep enough to really threaten the those digs, those like crossing stuff or maybe you're you're getting too deep and can't come back to the to the crossers stuff like that. Like that's a part of it. And I think like the vision is, okay, can we I look at it like Robert Salah seems to be calling this Titans defense like he was calling the 49ers defense down the stretch when they were down to their like second and third on the depth. It's based defense. And it's not that the Titans aren't
talented. It's just that like these guys, they haven't got the fundamentals of the base defense just yet. So in theory, you can point the finger and say, this is predictable, which I've found interesting. I don't know if you have thoughts on this, but like watching the defensive tape back, I feel like Robert Salah is doing a little bit more of showing pressure and dropping out of it than he did with the 49ers, like especially in the red zone where like there were the hooker interception is a play where there's there's like six people at the line of scrimmage and you're thinking, oh, this is the situation where they blitz, but then the ball is snapped, players drop, Jaylen Hertz is looking for the one on one matchup. He doesn't see hooker behind. And when he throws the ball hooker jumps the route and it's interception. So you can see situations where like, okay, this works, but we haven't gotten to a consistent basis yet. So the predictability
element of it is like, yeah, I get it. You're watching these two games and you're saying this defense looks a little bit predictable. But I think I think you've got to see this thing through. Like give it time. If you look at the bigger picture, it's not that these guys aren't talented. It's that they're not really experienced. They haven't got a feel for this defense just yet. So you kind of work out the kinks a little bit. I agree. I like it. They also, hey, for for record, too, they dropped out on that last play of the game. They dropped big J. It just didn't work. Obviously, because they didn't communicate. But like, yeah, that's the two things right now is one. They struggle to communicate, especially in the secondary and two, they seem to not understand down in distance. Yeah. And like tendencies of teams. Once they get that down, whenever that may be, then maybe we see these changes that we are talking about, potentially seen. And the the touchdown to Darius Cooper, like, that's just, man, that's a hell of a call from the Eagles,
hell of an execution, because like they're like he never left. They're in man coverage. We're fucking professionals around here. All right. All three of us. We're fucking professional. I just let him talk. That's a really good clever way to use motion to mix up your defensive backs, because that's not like a misdessignment per se, like a guy just didn't know what to do, right? That was a case where you're lined up across this guy and all of a sudden this guy moves to where that guy next to you should be covering him. And then he motions back in. So you're like, wait, he was in. Now he's out. Now he's in like, okay, I guess this is my guy, but then Micah Robinson is next to you if you're Marcus Harris. But there also should be any guessing. I mean, that's how the whole thing works is like man to man, you have your man. Well, or it could be you've got the outside guy. I've got the middle guy. But if that math changes,
yeah, I've got to communicate that doesn't necessarily change because you're playing the guy in front of you. Like you know, I'm saying like the math didn't really change. It was just what you know, but what I'm telling you from the defensive perspective is like, I understand what you're saying, but it shouldn't be that way from the defensive players perspective. If you're if you're Micah Robinson, yeah, you're lined up. You're always going to be the outside guy. It's your guy. So Darius Cooper's the outside guy. But then Devonte Smith motions outside. He's your guy. So if you're Micah Robinson, you're thinking, that's my guy. He's the outside guy. I'm going to move with him. But now Marcus Harris is thinking, well, wait a second, Devonte Smith was my guy. But this one, like it was intended to be a man beater. They just got zone and it worked either way. And Devonte Smith slipped too, I think. So they kind of screwed the play up a little bit. What I'm saying is that doesn't if you have man to man, doesn't matter where your guy goes
in a sense of, okay, so first off, the way that they blame, blame hated the way they aligned three side by side, the defensive backs. Yeah, shouldn't do that because then you're showing that you're in whatever coverage you're in demand. But if you're, if you're the outside corner to closest sideline, you're always going to have the guy closest to the outsides. Right. Yes. And I, and so if you're the inside guy, you're always going to have the inside guy. Yes. If you're the middle guy, you're always going to have the motion shouldn't really fuck that up. It shouldn't. No, you're right. But I'm saying, like it and obviously fuck them up for some reason, but you should have it. So simple. It's because it changes. Like if that's your assignment, Devonte Smith moves outside. Micah Robinson in that spot is thinking, well, I'm going to move out to cover Devonte Smith because he's the outside guy. The ball of snap, Devonte Smith comes back inside. It's that switch where like all of a sudden Micah Robinson,
Micah Robinson stays outside. And that's why I kind of think that play might have been on Marcus Harris because when Devonte Smith crosses back inside, Marcus Harris is playing to him. They're both playing to Devonte Smith. Yeah. And Darius Cooper gets wide open. So those are the things where it's like communication, like familiarity. Like I don't know. I don't know who that's on for sure because I don't, I can theorize. I think it was Marcus Harris, but I don't know that for sure, but like those are the things where communication is key and we're just, we're not really seeing it so far. I think you saw them on a similar play at a is it inapolis because we did tours for like right after the inapolis game one of them. And like it was Liger's need and the money hooker trying to communicate at some point. And it just got fucked up. Yeah. It happens. But at the same time in this defense, you can't afford that. This defense is about communication. Yeah.
Execution and precision. Yeah. This isn't a defense where it's like, well, you may have been one step behind with a little bit of hesitation. This is a machine where it's like Voltron. Yeah. And if one of the Tiger legs on Voltron or Lion legs, whatever. One little cat legs on Voltron does not work. You're fucking falling. Yeah. In this game, that's what it kind of is. Everything has to work. You're trying serratops in the Megazord has to work as the gun. And all this kind of stuff, you have to do it. Yeah. Like the T Rex and the and all that have to form the sword and the Megazord for power Rangers. I've started just going down this path and I'm determined to try to get it right. But either way, like everything has to work. And it's not the point where everything has to work. And that's a little disheartening, little discouraging. Yeah. Should already be working that way. It's why you went and
got a bunch of players that would understand the way you want to play football. Yeah. Unfortunately, those players that you got are not performing up to your country. They're contracts. I would agree. Wandel Robison, not performing up to his contract. Daniel Belinger, not performing up to his contract. Let's go to the defense side of the ball. JFM, Alante Taylor, Jermaine Johnson, Cordell Flot, none of these guys are performing up to their contract. Yeah. Specifically. And JFM and Jermaine Johnson, who have been in this before. Yeah. Who big Jeff is eating some double teams. And neither of these guys can be that dude to be to one on one kind of situation. Jacob Martin is the guy that's getting to one on one. And
there's actually beating him. Yeah. And Jacob Martin is still not that good. Like who and Kildrick Fox, not beating him. Kildrick Fox, been invisible. Uh, Fimey, Ladesia had that, you know, those two give me plays from week one. And then this next, this next week, he's turned invisible. They have to, uh, they have to scheme Fimey up to win. They have to send an extra pressure so that it creates one on one blocks for him to win. I saw film of Fimey being lowered in by helicopter. Is that right? That's how he has to win. Oh, man. I don't know like it's just big Jeff again. Yeah. And I don't understand how it's just big Jeff again. When you have a defensive coordinator like this. Yeah. And it's maddening because I'm seeing Jeroel Casey all over again. Well, but we've, we saw them with the exception of that touchdown allowed where it's clear. Micah Robinson and Marcus Harris got mixed up. And to be fair to those
guys, it's Devonte Smith. I'm sure it's a coaching point like that's the guy we can't let get open. They're hypersensitive to it. Whatever. But for the most part in the second half, we saw things kind of start to click a little bit for the Titans defense. I want to say before we get too carried away, my point in bringing this discussion up is that when you say Robert Salas defense is predictable, it has a negative connotation to it. The issue is not that the defense is predictable because when it's efficient, when it's executed and when it works, it works predictable works. The issue is that these guys aren't up to speed yet to execute it. And whether that's kind of odd to me that it feels odd to say the quiet part out loud because it's like you've had all summer to work on this. Right. So. And you're working with better pieces than when Robert Salas trying to install this over at the New York Chess. That's the point of criticism for me is like
why aren't they executing it better? Why are the defensive backs getting mixed up? It's with the rush with me, man. Like we know big Jeff's going to get the quarterback to step off his spot on third down. Why do we not have someone wrapping inside to take care of that? Clean it up. Call that lane to be fair. Part of making this predictable defense effective is the rush getting home because when the rush gets home, it makes everybody's job easier behind it. But you have your main Johnson, John Frickle Myers and Jacob Martin. I mean, there are none of these guys are really producing Jacob Martin. I will give a pass too because I kind of thought like when he was first signed, I'm like, this is to be like the fourth or fifth pass. And he's being asked, he's, is he starting? Am I mistaken? Or is he starting right now? But that was the intention. That's an indictment of fuck and old Asia. Oh, hi. Am I off on that? Yeah. I don't know if I'd agree with that in a sense of when it felt
like they signed Jacob Martin, it felt like when they had Harold Landry and they signed Ardenkig. Okay. They had your main Johnson, they signed Jacob Martin. Is it an indictment of Kendrick Falk and Femile Adagio that they couldn't beat out that guy, the rookie year or Femile's second year, I guess. And possibly, I don't, I think maybe like if it was next year, let's say this next year, if they sign a Jacob Martin type figure and that guy starting next year, then that's the indictment. Okay. All right, we can live there. We can live there. What about this giant steam? I was just about to ask because here's what I want to ask you. I want to, I want you to think about this dive into it. We know this team is using a fullback. So
they're using a lot of 22 personnel, a lot 21 personnel. So they're using two running backs, a running back in a fullback, 35% of the time. Yeah. We saw this Tennessee Titans team face a offensive formation that was 0 5, 5 tight ends on the field and they kept it light on the defensive side of the personnel, which what I'm saying is more defensive backs or more of your your um, skinnier, skinnier defenders than his heavy defenders. Well, however you want to put it if you're a listener. If that's the case, how do you think this defense is going to fare against this two running back personnel where there's a guy hitting a defender? Yeah. Which these defenders have not been able to close their run gaps and not stay disciplined to their run gaps.
And then you have to hit this crazy running back that is a kamikaze missile. That's what I'm saying, man. It's camscapo like this sounds like on paper where people do not think so. This is the path for the giants to win is to just stay grounded. It's that that Greg Roman Ravens offensive coordinator era run game and they they mix it up. I've watched both of their games, the offensive tape and it's like, man, I don't I don't know if they show the same run formation twice in a game and they like to put these tight ends out there philosophically speaking. I think they I think they like to add at the end of the tackles. They'll put two or three tight ends out there to the left of the left tackle and Andrew Thomas's availability for this game. I think it's going to be a critical factor in its outcome because they have some success running left behind Andrew Thomas
who is developed into one of the more underrated young offensive tackles in the game. But when you add tight ends out there, sure, you add blockers in space, you add gaps that the defense has to account for, right? We talk about gap math sometimes like who's getting where? And so when you put those you line those guys up there, all of a sudden you've got three more gaps to account for basically. And then they'll run zone schemes. Sometimes they pull guys get them out in front. To me, it looks like they want to get away from the teeth of your defense. Get out in space get guys down field that are blocking linebackers and cornerbacks. Instead of trying to block like your Jeffrey Simmons kind of deal. So for me, you pair that with, okay, it's not just like we're going to stretch things out. We're going to get outside, get to the edge and speed speed. That sort of thing. It is we are going to get out on the edge. And then you're going to have a
cornerback on the edge. And we're just going to beat the fuck out of them. You're going to bring a linebacker up and Patrick Ricard is going to declead him. And then if your linebacker manages to still be standing on two feet after Patrick Ricard lead blocks, well, here comes cam scataboo. That's where I saw their biggest runs. Yeah. So for me, when I think about it from a defensive standpoint, this is going to sound kind of defeatest. Don't try and fucking lay the wood on these guys. Don't try and go out there and make a play. Stay in your fucking gaps. Stay in your fucking gaps. Slow these outside runs down to the point where your Jeffrey Simmons and your germane Johnson's and your John Franklin Myers and Jordan Elliott's and all these guys can get out there and wrap up the tackle because I can tell you from the tape, the biggest run plays for the giants were
when they love to move Patrick Ricard around to sometimes he's full back, sometimes he's on the left, he's on the right, sometimes he's in line, they motion him, they shift him, all of this stuff. Pretty steady indicator where the runs going if you can kind of keep your eyes on where Patrick Ricard is at. They had success when they were able to get in space. Andrew Thomas seals off your defensive end, your tight ends get out and block up a linebacker, your wide receivers kick out the corner, all of a sudden you've got like cam scataboo one on one with a safety and he's going to smash that guy and pick up four yards and they're just going to do that over and over. They didn't make a lot happen in traffic. They're inside runs, don't look that successful to me. So I think if you can just stay in your gap and eliminate options for this offense, you can cut back on the big runs. And if you cut back on the big runs, like eventually there's going to be a situation where it's
third and long they've got to throw the ball and they have James Winston instead of Jackson Dart. So I don't even know if that answered your question. I'm just so fucking hyped about this Giants run game. I just had to start talking about it. Jackson's here too, by the way. Well, I also think that you've seen this newer Giants seem through two weeks, being a lot of second and long and third and long situations. And they they found some success in those plays, but they found themselves in those situations. Yeah. Like that is the key. When you're trying to play defense against any kind of offense, you're trying to restrict the space. Yeah. And if you can get these guys in these situations where they're obvious past situations, then that should be a benefit for your team. Now, there have been instances like you could point to the Tai Chi Spears run, right? Yeah. Where he just like ducked under the tight end and the linebacker or whatever and got 27 yards on a run that, you know, shouldn't be fatimal. Right. Right.
Like that shouldn't have happened. It happens, but that is a low percentage play. So the problem is that you look over at the New York Giants offense, they can they can get eight or nine yards on a chunk play. Yeah. That was with Jackson Dart. I was about to say with, you know, Andrew Thomas being healthy, that's with Malik neighbors being healthy. Yeah. So it's not necessarily going to happen every play, but we have seen if truly Brian, Callahan is the passing game coordinator in the sense of what that name means. Yeah. Like he's literally in charge of the passing game. What that means is that if you get him in situations where he has to pass, it shouldn't probably work most of the time. I will, I will say this from the tape, there is one million percent Brian Callahan influence on that passing game.
There's a lot of deep concepts that you will find if you watch the 2025 Titans and I think it's a little more advanced. I think they they added some things in there. I think part of that is maybe trust in personnel. I think part of that is probably your offensive coordinator being like, no, we're going to use motion. We're going to use shifts like we're going to have play action. We're going to have RPOs like we're going to it's going to be the full gamut of offense here. But I also think that from a conceptual standpoint, like those plays are still there where you're sending guys into each of the deep zones. And if they if they have time to get down there and you get the one-on-one matchups, this could be an explosive offense. And I think the thing we saw with Jackson Dart is to my surprise and I will hand up say I never in a million years would have thought Jackson Dart could be an efficient quarterback in this style of offense because you do see
25 Titans. You see 2018 bears. You see the naggy influence. You see the Callahan influence. And the Roman influence is more in the run. Mr. Biscuit of Lamar Jackson will love us. Where they I never I never would have thought that Jackson Dart would be able to execute on these concepts. But he was precise. He was quick. He was efficient, which to me, like those are the staples of what you need to be in that style of offense. And I think it's part of what the Titan struggled with a year ago under Brian Callahan is they they couldn't be those things. So and then on top of that, like you have the element of Dart rolling out and making you pay with his legs as well. So that week one tape, I would encourage everybody to go watch the giants against the Cowboys because of the best week one like most fun tape you can watch. It is a well-oiled machine. Yeah, it was it was barely do offenses come out looking like that. I I texted I texted
a friend and was like this is like watching cinematics at 11 p.m. at 12 years old is what it was like. And you see like the Greg Roman run game, Matt naggy, Brian Callahan concepts to be to be fair to Tim Kelly, like those tight ends are are prepared for whatever they have to do. Isaiah likely is a weapon in that offense. Yeah, but it's all it's all predicated on the juice that Jackson Dart gave it. You could you could feel the wind come out of that offense as sales when he went down in week two against the Rams. And the difference with he and James Winston at this stage in his career, I don't think Winston's is mobile. You can't be running some of the stuff you run with Dart with Winston. And I also think he is far too willing to throw off platform into coverage, make reckless, dangerous decisions. And man, I don't know, I don't know about you guys. I feel like Winston's
arm has kind of oh, it's there. There were balls that let something happens this week, based on what you saw on Monday night football. It's it's bad. So like I there were balls that were like hitting the feet of the wide receivers weren't traveling like 20 30 yards. It was it was kind of you could see why. After the highs of week one where this offense had to be thinking we're clicking on all cylinders. We just beat the Cowboys division rival like we we've got something this year, right? To all of a sudden, Darts gone Winston is kind of struggling coming in cold. Like it's just a deflated team. So I think how they respond in week three is going to be fascinating because conceptually, I will give that giants coaching staff credit. They have come up with something that is an amalgamation of like Ravens, Bears, Chiefs, Titans, Bingles, all that stuff.
And for that personnel, it looks really good. If they can execute, now we go back to what we just talked about with defensive backs struggling with communication passing off coverages. The whole thing is designed to eliminate the big play, but from a schematic standpoint, what the giants do in the passing game is designed to exploit the big play. There's a matchup where if I'm if Jackson Darts in there, I'm thinking, uh oh, we're in trouble. And then you think about the run defense going up against this complex run scheme from Greg Roman and you're thinking, uh oh, there's a path. What I'm saying is there's a path for this to in my opinion, not be the rollover that I think people will look at the injury report and say should be a rollover for the Titans. But the key thing is it is James Winston. You're not preparing for Jackson Dart. And that is where I'm like,
you know what? This is kind of a favorable matchup for this for this defense. If Andrew Thomas is out, oh boy, that's bad news for the giants. If Malik neighbors is not 100% oh boy, that's bad news for the for the giants. If they come out and they carry over from week two and they're feeling deflated and they're feeling like, shit, our seasons over, like what is this season even going to be? If you catch him flat footed, that's bad news for the giants. So I'm so interested in seeing what the emotional responses, because I think that is going to dictate a large portion of how this game goes on Sunday. We have been talking for an hour in 18, 19 minutes. Are you sure? Yeah. We started six, 10. So here's my question. We have to save the deep conversation like the deep ball
conversation for later, right? Well, that's fine. That's kind of a thematic thing and not games. Maybe we'll get more information, you know, to actually help with that conversation. But I think that the questions over the week have been a little bit overblown and driven by data nerds who think that can't carnal tape is something that they're not. It's like to people who are surprised that cash is sales performing better than Rubin Bain. If you've just been honest with the tape, maybe you wouldn't be surprised. Where I don't remember if we had the conversations on here, but I think we were both kind of like the issue with Bain is not the length. It is the it is the length, but only because they just didn't seem to have that. He doesn't have the athleticism. He didn't have the consistent scene as drive. Yeah. Cash is how play like a man with his whole fucking body on fire. He did constantly look at the fucking human torch out there with every he
was every rush. Yeah. And that's sometimes there's a big large discussion about this, but it goes back to the carnal tape thing where everybody's like, well, why isn't unleashed cam ward unleashed carnal tape? She guys watch their tape. Like that, that to me is kind of where I fall on that. Yeah. But that's a discussion. Maybe let's give it a few weeks and we'll give back to this defense on Sunday, man. It's completely contrary to what I said like 20 minutes ago. But if I'm a coach, I'm saying a we're playing bass, just follow the football like literally just the guys of the football this week. You don't have to disguise because James, he plays the way he plays. He will give you chances in the game. And with the run game like Stoey said, don't try to out physical. Just get hats to the football. That's the football. Just this is one of those like discipline. Do your job fundamentals fundamentals. Yeah. That's what I blame guaranteed to win. Blaine did guarantee you win. Oh, he guaranteed it
like Tuesday. I heard it twice in the second segment today. Well, it was a car. Real quick, what about the defensive matchup for the Titans? Because I think people would be surprised to watch this giant defense. It does not look like what we thought, Denard Wilson wanted to do. They've got some talent there. And the risk you run is always thinking like, well, what if this is the game that they put it together? And they just go out there and ball out. They've got some injuries on that side of the ball. The secondary is kind of a weakness. Those guys haven't peace things together. And my gut feeling, if you were to put a gun to my head, my guess is that Denard Wilson probably isn't blitzing as much because he doesn't want to get beat on the back end. So linebackers are dropping into coverage and trying to muddy up the picture for opposing offenses. Been a bit of a surprise there, but they have some talented pieces. If you're the Titans, how are you attacking it? I'm running the football run in the football. There we go. Let's get
out of the boys. I know, but I want to know, but he wants to hear that. I'm with you. But it is running the football because this is a team that has one sack through two games. Yeah. It's have it has the outside of the Miami Dolphin to have zero. It is the lowest sack rate. It is the lowest pressure rate. And they're 26 and blitz rate. They're rushing four over 76 percent of the time and they have the most talented one of the most young and talented defense of front sevens in the NFL. Yeah. Think about this on paper. Not only do they have Arville Reese, Tremaine Edmunds in the middle. They have Abdul Carter. Yeah. They have or maybe they won't, but they have Brian Burns. Yeah. And then behind those guys, Brian Burns, not there, it's cave on Tiba Doe. That DJ Reader who I think is is a he's a
he's a downgrade from Dexter to Lawrence. Sure, but who isn't? Yeah. Right. Not named Jeffrey Simmons. Who is it? Like it's them too and everybody else. Yeah. It's actually kind of utterly ridiculous. This team is not performing well. You said it reminds you of the Robert Solid defense. It looks so they're rush forward. Drop everybody behind it. But it brought to my attention was like, I don't know. They played older veteran guys. Maybe they don't blitz as well or blitz as much. But I'm kind of looking at him ago. This looks like what Denard Wilson wanted to be. But you have more weapons. Yeah. And because you have more weapons, you may be overthinking it. Like if he was doing the plan of attack, he did with the Tennessee Titans of 2025. I think that he would be
looking at this defense a little bit differently through the first two weeks. But instead, I think he has too many toys and not in a play time. I'll tell you where I think the giant's defense could be in trouble. They are built to run that style of defense under Denard Wilson. They've got a lot of speed. The linebackers and they're relying on those guys to line up defensive in rush four. And they they built like Dermain Johnson. So I love Abdul Carter. There was a part of me that was like Sinesam, Donald draft Abdul Carter. Forget about the whole draft to quarterback thing regardless of who this is. Probably went it up better. But he ain't he ain't this like stout edge setter. You know what I'm saying? And neither is our Val Reese really. They haven't like grown into their bodies. You want our Val Reese to play edge? Well, no, they don't. But I'm just and neither did the Tennessee Titans. So what that does that tell you Brian Burns, great player. He ain't the biggest guy. You see
what you see where I'm going with it? They're not built to set those edges. Yeah. So you should be able to run the ball against what should be a lighter front. And it's also the Titans can also or sorry, the giants offense can also be saying the same thing. Well, they they could. Yeah, this it really goes back to that Jets game where I sat here and I said it's whoever stops the run and gets the run game going. I kind of feel it's the same thing here because like are you really scared of Monica? I feel it's in Darnell Mooney. I mean, no, are you scared of? I'm scared of Isaiah likely. But are you scared of Malik neighbors who who can't even lift his arm over his head because of a dislocated shoulder and whom that could easily pop out again at any moment. Yeah, we haven't even talked about the weather either. Right. The weather is not going to be good. This is a run game thing. It is. I think this is violence and physicality. I wrote it for
stacking the inbox for that's coming out tomorrow. But I said, are you physical? When they're run when you see a team that's running 35% to running backs. They're saying where more physical than you. Yeah. The Jets said week one, where more physical than you. Yeah. Put up a shut up time for this defense for me. Like if you can, you have to be if you're the defense that came out in the second half of the Philadelphia Eagles game and you come out that way in the first quarter, they're winning this game. If you come out that way in the third quarter, you're maybe not winning this game. I be that team and be that team. I I don't know again, this specific matchup. I want my offense to have that mindset. I'm afraid of my defense having that mindset because I would like for my defense to have that
mindset every time. I just I just don't want them to make the mistake because I think if they make the mistake, that's how the giants are just going to pound them into oblivion. But like don't try don't try and take Patrick or card off his feet. Just get in your gap and hold the point. That's all I'm saying. Well, but holding the point is being physical. Well, fair enough. Yeah. I just I feel like people get the idea of like, I don't need them going out there and sticking everybody. I just need them going out there and just making sure that hey, this motherfucker in front of me is not pushing me off my spot. It is I'll sum it up in a sentence. For me, it is a do your job game on defense and a beat the fuck out of the defense on offense kind of game. Yeah. I agree with that and hunt the football. It's the football ball. Man, get the football. There we go. Anything else before we get out of here? Yeah. I got to go eat some food, man. Got barbecue still in there. Got barbecue big beans and everything. There was scraps of it. One rib left when I last walked through there.
And I was like, I'm thinking about it, but it's been sitting out for a while at this point. Anyway, Ross, how would you grade the show tonight? Hey, we brought some fire tonight. Probably got a little too carried away at the beginning, but that happens. That happens a lot. I never happens here. Anyway, this has been football and other F words driven by Lions Ford on 104 five the zone for Ross for Zach. I'm stony. This has been football and other F words and you have just been F'd.
