It's NFL 6 Pack on the Lockdown podcast network. Your team every day. Welcome to the NFL 6 Pack. Brian Peacop alongside Matt Williamson. Six big topics from the day week one now in the books Monday night or big win for the
Kansas City Chiefs at home starting the season against the AFC West rival Denver Broncos with the 31-10 win. The AFC East we're going to take a look at with the upset of the New York Giants making a statement against the Dallas Cowboys Justin Herbert's. Let's call it poor performance against the Cardinals. And who looked the best in the worst in the week one of this 2026 NFL season. I know that week one can sometimes lie to us. We're the Chiefs lying to us about smack it around the Broncos in a week one and saying, yeah, this thing ain't over for us. We still got any reading. We still got patching at home. We still got Steve Spagnolo and we're going to be here for the duration of this thing as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Broncos 31-10. I don't know. I'm a little torn of what I think of Kansas City because I still didn't see wide receivers getting open or being a potent passing offense in any way.
And the offensive tackle situation held up, but I don't know that I trusted big picture considering who's out there at the moment. But it was definitely a statement game at home. The first Monday night or the year Taylor Swift and Tom Cruise chatted it up. It was a tough environment obviously by a very proud and ultra successful team led by a great one of the greatest quarterbacks we've ever seen. And it's also very clear that Kenneth Walker is going to be the foundation of the offense, at least early in the season, probably longer. I'm going to take a second to pat myself on the back. If you remember our running back fantasy show, I had Walker as my running back five and he was going off the board at like running back 12. And it's only one game, but I was torn between him and Christian McCaffrey in my main league and I took McCaffrey. I mean, that's how high I am on this situation with Walker. And boy, he lived up to it. He looked tremendous, caught the football. Their defense was super aggressive. But I also think it was a case of Denver playing very poorly.
Like that was not their best performance by anyone involved. Waddle had what one catch for seven yards and Nick looked disjointed. They got away from the run game and didn't run the ball well. Defensive tackling. As was the case across week one, but was horrendous for Denver in particular. So they weren't the toughest opponent on that given night. And again, I think Spagnolo did a good job against the Broncos and forced him into some of that poor play. Yeah, sure. I like the the attention they paid to Waddle. And who knows, maybe we're wrong about Waddle being the target monster and it's going to be Pat Bryant for the Broncos offense in more of a bigger bodied role with Waddle being more of a less often targeted bigger play option. I don't know. I've seen and again, week one can lie to us and remember the Super Bowl champion from last year, Seahawks lost in a week or two. And it definitely happens. I also had Waddle super high on my wide receiver list.
I wasn't going to bring that up. Right. No, yes. We'll talk about Waddle, Colston, Loveland and all right. All right. Goosex that we're out there for fantasy players this week. Yeah, I mean, Ken of Walker, you mentioned he's just one of the better pure runners. No, he's not. He's fine. He's been for a while and being healthy is a big part of that. He's in a great situation here with Kansas City. The chief did something here. Kyle Shanahan tries to do this every game and he talks about the lapping the opponent, which is scoring at the end of the first half and getting the kickoff at the beginning of the second half. Oh, yeah. I'll check. I'll always talk about that. Yeah. And it's almost like to his detriment sometimes like it's the only thing that matters in the game is I want the ball last. I don't care if it's a field goal. I've got to score at the end of the half. I think the ball back to start the second half and then go down and try to score. And it's exactly what the chiefs did here and all of a sudden you have a game that is pretty close to a game that's getting out of hand quick already at the start of the second quarter when your team doesn't even possess the ball for the Bronx. Yeah, I mean, I guess there is something to be said for that.
I mean, again, I was just uninspired by Denver on both sides of the ball and it was a tough situation. I'm just not ready to crown that the chiefs are back. That's the headlines I keep seeing today is like they're back. They're the best team in the league. They should be number one in power ranks, you know, the Super Bowl's theirs. The Rams aren't even off. Well, yeah, blah, blah, blah. It's like I'm not sure I'm there yet. Yeah. I saw very little from their past catchers. I'm not ready to go there. Yeah, with the Kansas City Chiefs, even though I tried to hype it up in the show open, but I didn't believe it as you should. Yeah, but I mean, they still have the very key ingredients that I mentioned at the top. Coach quarterback, defense coordinator, like they've got some of the important ingredients, but a lot of Celeste go right and you know what went right for them. Let's highlight a couple of rookies really quick for the Kansas City Chiefs, some early picks and how about a non pick left tackle, Khalil Benson? How to find he only allowed one pressure all night.
That is really over Broncos defense 32 pass blocking snaps. One pressure allowed. And so Benson, if for those folks who don't remember, he was on that national champion Indiana team, but went undrafted. He's got like the physical ability, but the reason he was undrafted is his play was kind of up and down in college. He was actually benched in the national championship game against Miami going against Medzador and Bane and those guys. Oh, wow. I know all this. His way in and he wasn't even, it wasn't like he was the. The top undrafted free agent either. He had to go to camp on a tryout and then he did that move. Yeah. And then just to get the camp and then hung on then made the 53 and with Simmons out started week one and was really good. That's amazing. And I'm sure you'll go there, but they also got a lot of delaying. Armies and Thomas who are my Thomas. Yeah, Armies and Thomas. My dark horse defensive of rookie of the year.
I mean, he looks a different type of pass rusher than they've had there. He's not going to be stuck right. And he just got that that burst off the line. Yeah, yeah. And that's everything from his college game translated really well. And he kind of fell a little bit in the draft based on maybe what you would have thought he could have been based on his tape just because he's an undersized speed ed drusser. But he didn't really work out. His combine numbers didn't blow you away. Right. Which is why he was still there for Kansas City in the second round. Although they took him fairly early in the second round if I remember. But yeah, he looks the part. That's tons of juice and just that that initial burst off the edge. It's something you can't teach. I was critical of their draft because they didn't help the receiver room or it was a very, very heavy defensive draft. But it looks like it's paying off on defense. Yes, I would totally agree there. You want to talk New York Giants Dallas Cowboys? Sure. Uh, I don't want to say I called this one, but I called it and we won't talk about and
we won't talk about how we picked the Broncos to take the points and beat the Kansas EG. Let's talk about how I picked the upset and not only just taking the points, but the straight win for the New York Giants defeating the Dallas Cowboys 28 to 20. There are some disappointing teams in week one. We're going to talk about who looked the best and who looked the worst. I don't know that Denver or Dallas looked the worst, but clearly disappointing week ones for different Broncos and especially the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, they were not a very buttoned up units. A lot of blown coverages on defense. They were another bad tackling team for sure. I though, DAC looked off, pickins had some drops and issues as well. Um, their O'Line was average at best. I was not one of those guys in the preseason. You know, who's going to be worse the first? Who's that team that's New England from last year? Harboss going to the Giants. That could be the team and I'm still not there yet. But wow, I was really impressed.
I mean, the Harboss stamp on that team was so evident, not just because of the former Ravens likely in record and those type of dudes who were phenomenal, but the style of play. I mean, there was a clear plan and that's to be the most physical team on the planet. And they kind of were, you know, just a lot of big personnel beating you up with Skatabo and I have not been a dark supporter, but I'm always the first to say guys are allowed to get better. And I think he's gotten better. He's going through his reads. He doesn't look like that Mississippi Mickey Mouse offense. It's really hard. Sometimes when you watch the tape of the college player in that offense, you know, God, it just doesn't translate. And sometimes the player can translate despite the time. Yeah. It's hard and I think we both talked about I wasn't big on Jackson Dard as necessarily a first round quarterback. If I was a second round guy, but that's what happened second round quarterbacks end up
going in the first round. And I wasn't sure and he impressed me. He was better than I thought as a rookie and he kept that going into into week one of the season 230 passing yards. Super efficient. 79% completion. Three touchdowns. Didn't throw interceptions. Brand for 54 yards as well. We knew he had that part of his game with some athleticism there was scatabo 81 yards on the ground on 18 carries in a score. And then Isaiah likely, which was kind of someone who you highlighted as a sleeper fantasy guy. And man, he's looking like he's going to be a really nice fit being able to be the true number one tight end now for an offense. And clearly Harbaugh knew that bringing him over from the Ravens 78 yards on eight catches including the two scores. So he could be a red zone nightmare for the New York Times offense this year. Last time I got to have in the Giants is some of their high picks. I mean, neighbors much was made about him as you know, player nine come back from injury. He looked fine, but they didn't have to rely on him.
So it was a great get your feet wet game for neighbors. You know, I figured the whole passing game would be so much on his shoulders and didn't have to be in this game. And that defensive front, they have some, they got some banshee's man. That's why they're a team that's like they, they were clearly underachieving for years. Like, yeah, such an important ingredient. And if you've got a good head coach and you got a quarterback, you got a defensive front like that, you should be a good football team. Yeah, I mean, they throw that NASCAR package out. They got four dudes with burns and tibido and the two high picks. It's like, man, I mean, the speed and athleticism on the field is crazy. Maybe somebody knows what to do with that. Yeah, right. Right. Which is very important. I want to talk a little bit more about the Cowboys. Let's talk about Justin Herbert and the Chargers who laid an egg in week one. And what teams looked the best and worst from week one? Some overreactions for what we saw in week one next episode of NFL 6 Pack is brought to you by game time. I love the game time app. I tell everybody I run into. So these episodes also brought to you by Kowsy. A new football season brings some big questions who makes the playoffs, who wins their division, who takes home the title. What can you believe from what we saw on the field now with a small sample size of one game per NFL team. Kowsy America's number one prediction market platform. Because you trade those predictions in a live market, AFC West, perfect example. Kansas City chiefs have vaulted to the top of the division, trading at 53%. This Tuesday morning now to win the AFC West. So you still think it was a mirage how bad the Broncos played in week one. They're down to 21%. So chiefs jumped 20%. Broncos fell 12%. Now behind the chiefs, $100 on the Broncos win the division, could pay over 400. And at the end of the year, all you got to do is download the Kowsy app because on Kowsy

Just real quick on on the Dallas Cowboys, extremely disappointing, but I want to bring this up to you because you've seen the George Pickens experience up close in the first hand there in Pittsburgh and my Cowboys fan friends are a little bit frustrated with him and it's kind of one of those things that you see the good, you see the bad and apparently you know, there's like one of my friends put it's like what's he doing? Like doing a video game, emo in the wrong times in the game, you're losing the game,
a national television, talented guy, but it's just it's just a really interesting experience right now with Dallas and how huge their fan base is and they are very disappointed or they woke up very disappointed on this on Monday morning yesterday and I assume still disappoint on Tuesday. I would imagine hopes were so high and that was not an easy game to play. Don't get me wrong. You're walking to New York on 9-11 weekend with a new coach and a physical team and all those things. One game, you know, a night game much like we talked about with Denver that everyone the plan is staring at you. But Pickens is tough, man. I mean, we saw it last year with Dallas. He's an unbelievable talent. I've watched it so many of his practices where it is jaw dropping and frankly he was often the best player on the field and that's that even showed up last year. But remarkably immature and frustrating and I mean, I could tell stories that I can't really on the air, but I can tell you that everyone collectively was very happy to see
him leave the stealer, you know, organization and it didn't seem like a third round pick was much and it isn't, but he's hard to be around, man. Back press got not the best game for him. Took him a 34, 34 attempts to get the 175 yards passing a couple touchdowns. Did have the interception all around just, you know, not the greatest effort for the Dallas Cowboys, but I do want to give the Giants credit and they made life difficult for that Cowboys offense. Absolutely. I'm stocked up for sure on the New York Giants. Yeah, yeah. I'm certain by you in a little bit. Where is your stock meter on Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles chargers that to me were one of the most disappointing, maybe the most disappointing team of the opening weekend, a 26, 14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals knocking a lot of people out of their survivor leagues and I think a ton of people got knocked out of that. That was a most picked team now. And Herbert specifically, I think we've got to get into, you know, we've got a lot of questions already in our mailbag about Herbert because we've been tabbed as Justin Herbert
apologists, Matt. Do you have any? I understand. The ways to apologize away Justin Herbert's performance in week one, 17 of 27, 209 yards, had a touchdown, had a pick that he really did not need to throw at the end of the game. Can we just blame it all on the interior offensive line, which was horrible for the chargers? And I don't think it should get any better. Yeah. I mean, that's the thing is it's, it's always something and it's, you know, last year it was the tackles and after. And real quick, I'm not saying that he's, I think he's better than Sam Bradford, but I always use him as an example because I've done this for so long that for the first five or six years of Sam Bradford's career, as a first overall pick, I used him an example of, if I'm his prosecuting attorney, I could destroy him. I could get him in jail for sure. If I'm his defending attorney, I'll make him look like a great player. You know what I mean? Like, there's just, it's really strong two sides. I think Herbert's better than that. I would much rather be his defending attorney than prosecuting attorney, but considering
his postseason struggles, the magnifying glass is so on him right now. And then you come out and kind of lay, definitely lay an egg against a team you were massively favored on. He better get used to handling the pressure and the scrutiny, even though he's not in the hardest market in the planet. He's not New York or Green Bay or Buffalo or something like that. But the only way I can really defend him in this one or the Chargers overall is it was only like a week ago, you and I kind of came to the conclusion that the jets and cardinals might not win many games, but they're going to be hard to play against and they're trending the right direction and their play on the field might be a lot better than their record. And that absolutely, absolutely held up for the Arizona side of things. They possessed the ball for 37 minutes, didn't turn it over. They didn't lose the game, you know? How about the only team that didn't win in the NFC West was the Los Angeles Rams, the super team. There's a card to start the season one and a pretty crazy thing that I was coming. Yeah. I heard you mentioned Miles Garrett's on IR too. Right.
Yeah. How about that one for at least four weeks now for for Miles Garrett? What the hell were the Rams thinking with their plan? You bring Garrett who's got a bad knee. You have two 16 hour flights for him and you go like play a game that you act like you don't even care about. Yeah. You're not planning a bad travel arrangement. You don't play anybody in the preseason and are maybe the flatest team in the NFL. Maybe they're the worst we saw from week one. Like unbelievable. Right. Now you're now your star player that you brought in has gone from court of the season. Yeah. Not going well at all with the Rams. At least Donald is back in the mix and you have a nice long week to prepare, but that is a massive story. And you got to leave the flight added to that for probably swelling that happens on a flight like that. He dropped right in with Miles Garrett. It couldn't have helped. And maybe he didn't look like himself when he was on the field. No. That's for sure. Well, he was part of that. Oh, yeah. He's out against him. But you know, there's a couple of reps where like, oh, there's Miles Garrett, but there wasn't very many. Mm-hmm. And he was off the field a lot.
Yeah. And he was favoring the knee. And I mean, clearly he was compromised. Next Matt, let's get into it. Which teams were the best and worst is the terms we're going to use? There's a few games that we did not really break down from week one. I want to start with the Jag... Well, actually, let's go to the Jets and the Titans because we cut... I think the Giants were starting the year in a better place as far as what expectations were than the Jets and the Cardinals. But the Jets and the Cardinals were kind of that team that was like bottom tier team, could surprise, could actually be better than a bottom tier team. Both those teams won in week one. The Cardinals more impressive win against a team that we thought was going to be better in the Chargers. I don't think there was a ton of expectations for the Titans, but, man, the Jets looked pretty good. Stock up there. The Titans have looked like a disaster whether it's preseason, regular season, every step
of the way so far this year. They might be in big trouble. Yeah. I came up with four teams that I thought looked the worst or at least in the conversation. And Tennessee is absolutely in that mix. Some of it's some bias from preseason and I'm starting to blame coaching. Their defense wasn't even a very good stop in the run. Things you thought you could count on. There was one of the weirdest plays of the week was Cam Ward dropping back and then he turned like he was going to hand the ball off to a receiver on an end around and just tossed it to himself and he looks around and he's like, oh, I guess I'm going to run now. It was the weirdest. I love that. I love that. I love that. What do we get here? Yeah, that's all that. Get Tate the ball a little. I mean, Ward looks so disjointed. I worry that they're ruining him in a big way all of a sudden. What, that's his third coach already. I mean, his rookie coach got fired halfway through the season and he looks at, he really looks at and he's not helping matters either.
And again, there were, I thought four teams that looked really, really bad in Tennessee is a strong case as anybody. He's Brian Dable just not a really good coach and that's a possibility. Awesome. Yeah. Awesome is Josh Allen that he overcame the coaching of Brian Dable to become where he was. That's why Brian Dable got his job. He's made everybody look worse in New York. Suddenly New York comes back. Looks better with the new coach and then now everything looks bad in Tennessee. His awesome is Alan is and all the things he's accomplished. Maybe that's the biggest thing he's done. I would get to know what it is. I was taking us right now. His cat and speech will be like Andy overcame Brian Dable to become a star. Obviously, still a lot of time. Weird things happen in week one, but right now the Tennessee Titans are near the bottom of the list and some hope. Love seeing Breeze Hall. Hundred yards out of the gate touchdown. Yeah. Looking like he was primed. There's a lot of receiving options. Omar Cooper Jr. Haven't seen what the MRI results on him.
But I know he left the game after his first and only NFL career catch right now for 30 yards. Garrett Wilson is it was being Garrett Wilson wasn't high powered passing attack necessarily from a volume standpoint. The spread the ball around and and look pretty good there. Titans looked awful. The Jaguars looked great, but is it because they played the Browns who are still the team I'd have to put even below the Tennessee Titans right now. Yeah. Again, I kind of built a list of four garbage team performances and five or so strong ones. And that was the game I put both teams on because I think Jacksonville just was like a cat playing with a mouse. Yeah, it is unbelievable. By the way, it looks like the DeShon Watson is going to start at least again one more week, but that's usually not a good sign even if you're talking about who's going to start at quarterback. The second week of the season because things were so bad. We were talking about this on the Steelers show because they play the Steelers on a short week on Thursday, a week four. I'm guessing you last till that point and then the long week he gets pulled and you nailed
it. I mean, the defense wasn't good. Nothing was good for the Browns. But the quarterback play was so, so below the line that it's and I don't see that getting any better. No, you saw a couple of glimpses. Casey Concepts, you own getting the ball in a number of ways targeted five times in the passing game caught four of those was giving the ball three times as a as a rusher for 15 yards there. So that was a little bit fun. I guess Boston looks like the parts get a touchdown for his career as that classic X type receivers. You know, there's some hope for the future quarterback. They were just so bad and decently. They couldn't do anything. I mean, it was a clinic and then run game and wants it as you know, look like he knows where he's doing. You know, like getting people in the huddle and decision making and all of it's horrible. So I think for both of these teams, the Browns are so bad where they worse in this game because they played a really good team in the Jackson Jaguars or were the Browns of that. The Jaguars look like a really good team, but they're not as good. Even though I think we do think they're a playoff caliber football team Trevor Lawrence
for touchdown passes in this one on only 23 attempts. It was just all too easy for the Jaguars. It felt like it was over in the first quarter. You know, like one team is it's Ohio State versus Akron, you know what I mean? Parker Washington. He's someone who doesn't really get talked about ever on a national level. He's just a really good football player. So I just want to be a football player. He really is. Absolutely is. Five for 83 in a touchdown for for Washington. Myers two catches for four yards in a touchdown. You know, they've gotten Brian Thomas, juniors and they've got Travis Hunters and it's like, you know, Parker Washington and Jacobi Myers. That's the passing game. Mm-hmm. Defense of solid. You know, right. Best team. Aside from Jaguars that you saw in a week one. Side note, I also think Miami and Atlanta are in the conversation for worst, but those would be my top two picks or the Titans and Browns. And Miami played a team in the Raiders that might not be that good. So we might see some really ugly. In fact, the dolphins play the Niners in week two. So we'll see what that ends up looking like for the Miami dolphins.
And if it looks more like what we saw with the Jags and the Browns, even though, you know, Miami wasn't able to beat the Raiders, we don't think it's going to be very good this year either. I mean, Atlanta with Cooper Russia is pretty easy to play against. Raiders Ole Island looks really good, but again, like, let's see a opponent. So we need more data points here than one week of NFL football to learn everything we need to know about these teams. So I scrolled the scores and these are the teams I thought looked the best. You have any votes? Your Niners? Ravens? Jags? Bills? I think that's it. Your Chiefs. I would maybe even add Bengals to that. Pretty solid, yeah. Yeah. I thought about it. But I think it probably comes down to if I had to pick one team that looked the best. Your Niners are pretty darn good. You know, I'm going to not say the Niners just because there's that extra layer of travel and weirdness already on top of it.
I'll say the Ravens. Like, the Colts, like the Ravens beat the Colts so bad that they got the ownership, Harley, Ursa Gordon calling out the head coach and the GM after one week. I missed that. Wow. Yeah. You got to hear this. Check it out. She had some interesting comments. Maybe that's going to have to come up a little bit later in the week. We will play that video.
