Ottawa Charge Head Coach Carla McLeod is stepping away from the team for a while to focus on her breast cancer treatment. The team made the announcement on Monday after she first shared her diagnosis back in November. She is 43 years old from Spruce Grove, Alberta, and built an incredible career. As a player, she grabbed two Olympic gold medals with Team Canada in 2006 at Tourin in 2010 in Vancouver. When she switched to coaching, leading Czechia to her bronze at the Women's World Championships. The organization says she's staying positive and zeroed in on recovery, and they're backing her and her family fully while asking folks to respect her. Privacy McLeod took Ottawa to the Walter Cup finals last season after missing the playoffs the year before. Now assistant coach Hayley Irwin steps in as interim head coach. She already filled in for one game back in December when treatment started. Ottawa sits fifth in the PWHL with 33 points from a 6-7-1-11 record, just one point behind

Toronto for that last playoff spot. The charge will push forward with Irwin at the helm, sending strength to McLeod as she battles back strong. I'm Corey with the story. That's your Canada News today update AI-powered and always on.
