About this episode
On Episode 44 of The $300 Startup...
Hagler was good, there was no denying that. But his first belt did not come easy. It took him 7 years of fighting and 50 fights before he tasted championship prestige! A span of time that not only tested his physical capabilities but his patience.
During his first title shot, he endured a grueling 15 rounds against Vito Antuofermo. Hagler -and everyone in the building that night- felt he had won the fight. Hagler claims that ref Mills Lane instructed him to “stay facing this way until they announce the decision and I raise your arm.” All the dedication, hard work, and isolation. Hagler was due to cash in. Except it didn't happen. The judges scored a draw. The champion reclaimed the title laving Hagler to feel as empty as a robbed room.
