We have shown to do today. The whole new acronym thing drives me up and then can we call them by his name? Children are not 85 to sports up. Out of one side of our mouths, we say that the first week or two of the regular season has become sort of like an extended preseason. But at the other times, I want to say there are some games that feel like teams need to win them. I feel like if New England loses this game at home, there's going to be some panic. Does that seem? Am I overstating it? It's a really big game for New England. It's a really big game, specifically the start for Drake May. Yeah. That fourth quarter was just so uncharacteristic. He's a young player still. And this usually goes one of two ways where you come off of that fourth quarter performance and your head scratch and you're going, how did that happen? And you rebound. And the start of this game, you come out and you're six for seven in the first quarter for 60 yards in a touchdown and everyone kind of forgets about it. And you're four, you're three for eight for 13 yards in a fumble and everyone's like, oh my gosh, what's going on?
So I just, this is a big important start for Drake May and how he rebounds. This is the first adversity, real adversity. And it's a young career. How he rebounds, I think is really important. September the 18th Friday means one thing and one thing only means it's a gender free. Gender free. Gender free Friday is a project by Ketch's law. It catches a specializing in helping those who have been injured not only from a one-time incident. But from a lifetime of hard work and labor, if that sounds like you visit ketch's law.com, there's no fee unless you win kechess.com format is the same. The agenda is set by your wonderful phone calls. We've already released the hounds at 617779095. If you're ready to go opening segment, we'll take you opening segment in the meantime. We feel the time with some opening takes for some asmr alongside. Hi guys. Hello, Michael. Hello, Mike Greenberg and they get a program this morning on ESPN with Dan Arlovsky talking about if they don't win this one, panic sets in. I don't know if they said must win, but the whole topic being must win an important week for Drake May, that was their thought.
I think that leads into big, Jim Murray's opening thought. Jim, go ahead. I agree completely with them, especially Mike Greenberg who did feel it's going to get panicky if they were to lose this game and start O and two. Unlike last year, because they're in the same spot as they were last year, they looking down the barrel of an O and two start after a putrid week one performance, especially that of Drake May and unlike last year, we're sure O and two would have heard. Let's be honest, the expectations were a hell of a lot different than they are today. We knew they had an easy schedule on paper, but nobody thought that ended up with 14 wins. This isn't revisionist history talking about it that way. We figured maybe nine-ish wins, maybe a playoff team, but either way, my point is this. This is different than going to Miami in week two last year. There's bigger stakes here because I have a schedule sets up for them the next couple of weeks in Jacksonville and Buffalo and quickly on them based on the first couple of weeks in last night's game. Good luck because that bill's offense is potent. So yeah, it's a must win against Pittsburgh. And I hear O'Lofsky there would be great if Drake May lit it up against the Steelers defense. Yeah, but I don't care. Just win the game, put a little win in your sales.
And who knows, maybe you get some momentum going into Jacksonville the following week, but they start O and two. It's going to feel like doom and rightfully so the math's not on their side since the merger in 1970, 43 out of 422 teams have started O and two and gone on to make the playoffs. And if this rolls into a winless month, only one team in NFL history has started O and four and made the playoffs and that's the chargers in 1992. So don't lose to this middleing Steelers team and old washed Aaron Rogers on Sunday. It's pointing out the obvious, but yeah, it's a must win. Okay, they'll be playing a Patriots talk at 617779085. Who's next? Who's next? Who's next? I'm happy to go next red socks rallied last night. They beat the Rangers four to three dramatic win bottom of the or top of the eighth inning. Trevor Story hits a three run home run and you know what immediately landed in my inbox. You want to take any guesses? Yeah, what do you think about story now? Yeah, I thought you said story. Yeah, man, say, I thought you said story couldn't play. That you said he wasn't a player, huh?
So here's all I'm going to say about Trevor story quickly. Left handed pitcher. Breaking ball. 85 miles an hour. Breaking ball. I know he can't left ease and I know he can hit 85. If you think that that somehow is some symbol of anything, you're not watching the right stuff. That's number one. Number two and far more interesting to me. Wilson Contravers could hit by a pitch in the eighth inning. Was not happy about it. Came out of the game. He said he thought the hand was broken. And then there was this comment and him talking about the opposition quote. He was trying to pitch inside like everybody else. A lot of people might say that I hit on top of the plate, but I'm seeing a lot of players who hit on top of the plate that don't get hit like me. If nobody does anything about it, I'm going to keep getting hit. That's the way I see it. And quote, that last line should get your attention. That was directed at the Red Sox pitching staff. Maybe the manager and the coaches as well is someone going to stand up for me or not.
Now I would submit that the Red Sox before they begin the playoffs in 10 days might want to have a little skull session or powwow and figure out if this is a thing, there is it not a thing. Good luck. It's the last thing you want to have hanging over the team when they go on the playoffs that the best hitter on the lineup thinks his pitchers won't defend them. It's a great angle there. That is what a loaded comment. That is. And what a pain in the ass. This guy is. I mean, just what a freaking pain in the ass has been all season. And so many fans have just stuck their head in the sand about it. Oh my God. I mean, but he's good. Yeah. And that's why he's good. And he gives you life when you need life. And there's some redeeming qualities to Wilson Contreras. There's no question about it for sure. But what a freaking pain in the ass. This guy is been hit. We talked about this like the second weekend of the year when he threatened to, I don't know, what was the thing with the brewers when he got hit and he, oh, yeah, right. And he lost it. Yeah.
Got it. I can't remember how he put it, but he was going to kill somebody, right? You know, like, and he's, so we went over this months ago. He's been hit more than any other guy in Major League Baseball hit more than any other guy in the last five, but whatever the stats are there. He gets hit more than any other guy. And that's because he hangs over the plate. He invites it. And so he gets hit. Now you have to go to war because this guy keeps getting hit because he's hanging over the plate. That's sort of asking a lot. It sure is, especially with the playoffs about to start. But either way, you got to deal with them. This guy, what up? This guy's a putz and he's a pain in the ass. But again, he can hit and he gives you life when you need life. And there's some good things about him. But okay, so that's on the board. I'd like to talk further about that actually. A minus is Quake will do some Buffalo Detroit talk from last night. I just want to say a word about the new stadium there, which I just loved, loved, loved, loved, and I just, I just wish more teams could do what Buffalo did with their stadium.
And I'm not talking about the viewing experience being there. I guess there's some obstructive view seats. I'm not talking about anything about being there. I'm talking about watching a game on television, which is where I'm going to watch the vast, vast majority of my Buffalo bills games in Buffalo. Maybe the rest of them for the rest of my life. I don't need to go there again. I did that enough covering the team, but I'm talking about where you and I are going to watch the Buffalo bills. And that's from our couch. What a pleasure. What a pleasure that stadium was starting with obviously natural grass, but going to secondarily open air. And it's a smaller stadium. You know, it's the smallest stadium in the league. Oh, wow, great. I thought that was neat that they were talking about that last night. They are the shoot smallest stadium in the league. So instead of getting bigger, it got smaller. Instead of going inside, which everybody's doing, they stayed outside. Instead of going to turf, which everyone is going to, they went back to grass. And it's loud as crap because the overhangs, the one concession they made to the conditions
there is that every seat's covered basically. So if it's nose or reins or all that crap, it's going to be more comfortable in the seats. So that also creates a really loud environment. It's also vertical. So it's the seats are on top of each other. It's the smallest stadium in the league. It's open air. It's grass. Thank you. Thank you. And I feel it on the television. I feel it watching the game. God, why is it so hard for me to see a game with grass stains? Or even the way they painted the field was cool with those painted end zones. That felt old school. And just a pleasure. Just I don't know why it's so outsized for me to see a game on natural grass versus turf, but it is, but it is. Well, you also probably know like the rest of us, Mike, this is it. Like the next stadiums are going to be built over the next couple of decades. They're all going to be covered. They're all going to have turf. The bills of the outlier with this thing makes such a difference. And I thought they just did a great job with their stadium for the things I care about.
Open air, grass, football only, smaller, not bigger. I thought it presented beautifully on television last night. I loved everything about it as a viewer. I'm a little scared that the grass isn't going to make it because you can see big chunks coming out of it last night. You know, people are going to complain. They're going to get to a point where they're going to wonder, can we keep the grass? Can we grow the grass? How are we going to be able to do it? It's a real grass thing. It's like there's some stadiums. Green Bay is one of them. I think Baltimore might be another. A lot of the soccer stadiums overseas have sort of a hybrid thing. That was not a hybrid. That's a real grass, field, grass, grass. I wonder if that's going to make it after the chunks are coming out of it last night. And we get into December. We know it can't grow. So I'm worried that it's going to stay what it was. But I just like the viewing experience that stadium last night. That's my opening take. All right. As promised to your call 617779095. Mike, it worked. What do you want to talk about? Hey, what's going on guys? Quick question for Matt and quick question for you, Felga.
Matt, we're totally starting in the playoffs. Would you rather have him go up against Schlittler or have him go up in a game to do a die situation and that not for Felga with the Bruins still not having a captain. What are your thoughts on getting rid of the old garden making Zodoro the captain? Have a great weekend, boys. Getting rid of the old what guard and making Zodoro the captain. I think it's a little garden. Yeah, it's what I thought too. Yeah, it's not going to happen. I don't despise Zodoro of like some people seem to, but he's he's too much of a puss to know that's not going to happen. Sax playoff rotation. Yes. So look, I'd go gray first, totally second. I understand his point though that he thinks totally is the best guy. He a match him up with Schlittler. My general feeling is always go with your best guy first. Now we can debate. I just in this case, I'm not sure how clear it is because gray has been pretty good all year long. So I would just say with the red socks stick with what you got, but generally speaking, like this whole idea of let me sacrifice the first game by pitching someone less
than if that's what someone thinks. I hate that kind of mentality. Pitch your best guy and believe that you can beat the other teams best guy. And if you can, you're probably not good enough. So I like totally where he is. I believe it that way right now. I don't think this is a championship team, but what the hell? Let's see. Dave is in Vermont on an agenda for Friday. Hi Dave. Hey, Mike, as always, thanks for letting me call in and say some crazy stuff. So yeah, I'm really worried about our defense. You know, I know yesterday you told me that we only gave up 13 points. But if you look at the defensive efficiency, their quarterback completed 72% of his passes with the one 13 pass rating. The running backs, Russ for one or 4.5 yards per carry. They had a wide receiver catch eight balls for 122 yards and a touchdown. If we give that up to the Steelers, do we win if Aaron Rogers completes 72% of his
passes? I don't know about 72%. I don't know if that one matters. Everyone throws for a high percentage now. I don't know if that's the magic number, but are you worried about the Patriots defense? Well, look it this way to his point that pass rating differential in this game. That stat that distinguishes Super Bowl winners from other teams. Yes, sir. Kerry Bern has talked about what would the Patriots number be in that game? If the opponent was 115 and they were at 60 or whatever the number was, I'd be willing to bet they had the worst pass or differential in the NFL over the week. I'm going to try to find it, but it's a fair point to bring up. I mean, all in all, I'm not alarmed by it, but it's a fair point to bring up. I'm not worried about the defense. I'm worried about turning the ball over. I'm worried about them finding themselves on offense after last week. Mike May's confidence, the line between being careful or being reckless. That whole thing that we've talked about to death for a good reason. I think that's really the fault line right here going into this ball game.
We continue with your calls. Agenda free Friday, often running back to you after these words. Oh, yeah. Thoughts, calls, emails. Oh, yeah. I get my jolly son of it. I do. I'm not a good person. Go ahead. I do. I'm not a good person. Go ahead. Felgar and Max. Yeah. I need five to sports home. 15 play in the dry. We did. We did. We did. Dallas rolling. Deleted in. Back down. 15 plays. Alan the night has accounted for five touchdowns. What else does that exactly? It's just kind of what he does. And you just have to be always alert for jaw-shallowing slabs, whether it's a scrambled design boot, or he's got the option to be able to get out there and run or throw, especially they get down and have low red area. His feet are as big a factor as his arm. I know it's Agenda free Friday, but this is an agenda of mine, the running courted back too much running.
Could you believe it last night? Meaning that Detroit gave it to him to begin with? Yeah. That defense was horrible. You thought, Murray? I mean, I thought both defense were pretty wretched. And I think you can throw on both these team's secondaries too. But yeah, I can't believe some of the running lanes that they gave to us, Alan. It's like they didn't account for it at all, which is crazy, because it's what he wants to do. They just completely gave up the perimeter on several snaps, just giving him 10, 12 yards at a time, which is just ridiculous, but the amount of running from Josh Allen, I am telling you, it's not sustainable. This is I sell. I don't sell on Josh Allen. And the bills as a elite quarterback or an elite team, he's amazing. He is incredible. He's awesome. And I take him on my team any day of the week. So don't confuse my analysis. He's a force in nature. And that's a good team. And I take him. I take him. I want to be a fan of the bills. But I would also say, all that running
is not sustainable. And ultimately, those are not the quarterbacks that win on balance. I know the league is changing. And I know Jalen Hertz won a championship, made two Super Bowls one won. And he's a big running quarterback. I get it. But other than him and Steve Young, you really aren't going to find many historically guys that run at that level who win championships. And he's like, oh, oh, no Patrick Mahomes does not run as much as these guys. Don't kid yourself. I gave him numbers the other day. We did it the other day. It's three or four times a game tops. And it's a Drake May runs twice as much as Patrick Mahomes. How many times did Alan May and last night? He ran 10 times for something like 70 yards. 14. He had 14 rushes. Now that might include some, you know, well, no, do you want some more incredible stats? You want to, I heard this this morning. I'm going to believe it. But maybe I should. Do you know that Josh Allen ranks 18th all time, all time
in rushing touchdowns in the NFL? All positions. You're kidding. Not quarterbacks. All positions running backs. Here's a he's 18th. Here's a, I'll just give you the list around his area. I mean, number one's Emmett Smith. Number 14 Eric Dickerson. Number tied for 14th. Eric Dickerson Curtis Martin. Number 16, priest Holmes. Number 17, Martian Lynch. Number 18, Josh Taylor. From to Josh Allen, Jesus. I'm getting all wound up. Number 18, Josh Allen tied with Jim Taylor. The Packers great. Number 20, Corey Dylan. Number 21 Otis Anderson tied with Frank Gore. Number 23, Eddren James. Josh Allen is in the middle of all those guys. So he has more rushing touchdowns and Corey Dilland did. Josh Allen in his career has more rushing touchdowns than Corey Dillon. Otis Anderson. Frank Gore, Eddren James, Ricky Waters. Tony Dorset. He has more rushing touchdowns than Tony Fing Dorset.
That's incredible. Uh, and let me give you the top three quarterbacks on that all time rushing list. Okay. If Josh Allen's number one, guess who's number two? Steve Young. Steve Young. He's down. He's on the list. Steve Young is one, two, three, four, five. Steve Young is fifth. Jaylin Hertz. Jaylin Hertz is third. Um, Cam Newton is second all time. Yeah, that would be. That would make sense. All time, uh, all time rushing touchdown leaders among quarterbacks. Josh Allen, Cam Newton, Jaylin Hertz, Paul Horting is fourth, but he was more like a half back. I don't really count him. Uh, Otto Graham was fourth. Steve Young was fifth. All time quarterback rushing yards. Guess who's number one? Josh Allen. Lamar Jackson. Oh. Lamar Jackson, Michael Vic Cam Newton. One, two, three. Russell Wilson is fourth. Randall Cunningham is fifth. Josh Allen is sixth. Steve Young is, I guess, seventh there. It's just generally speaking, those guys don't win.
I was just going to say who are the top three in rushing yards? Jackson, Vic Newton. Yeah. No Super Bowl wins between them. Rushing attempts. Top three. Cam Newton, one, Lamar Jackson, two, Russell Wilson, three. Josh Allen, four and gaining on everybody. I know the league is changing. I know it. I accept it. I got it. And Jalen Hertz has won at a high level. And he's on these lists. Steve Young won a championship and he's on these lists. Okay. I got it. I'd take Josh Allen any day of the week. It's too much running. It's, it doesn't sustain. It, it just, if, if I saw Super Bowl championships all over these lists, I'd, I'd stand down. Change your mind. I just care about who wins. Honestly, that's all I care about. I don't care if the quarterback's good or he sucks. I don't care if he runs or he throws. I, I really don't. I care who wins. But when I look at this and I look at these, the list of these running quarterbacks, I see some winning but not consistent winning.
Championships. And so, and I'll just say one last thing. As a viewer, it kind of boars me. I'm just not that interested in the quarterback tucking the ball and running. I just, neat, stick the finger in your cheek. It's just, it's just not that interesting to me. I know it's a silly comparison, but I always equated to that annoying kid. You play touch football. And it's a five Mississippi rush or seven Mississippi rush. You get to five where you get to seven. And he runs. It's like, dude, we're just here in the backyard playing a little game of catch. I'm not out here. It have you run around like some a hole. I'm not here to play tag or chase. We're not doing it with throw the ball. Would you believe, you know what I mean? And I sort of feel that watching these games. It's like throw the ball. And Josh L is such a brilliant passer. You got a howitzer put the ball anywhere on the field. Anyone he wants at any time. That to me is much more interesting. The balls he completed a concade or those plays are much more interesting to me than him. Tucking and escaping the pocket and running for 12 yards like boring.
All right. I'm done. Back to your calls. It's an agenda free Friday. Everything's on the table. Draco and Connecticut. What do you got? Draco. The spirit of agenda free. What do you guys have thoughts on earning Adams cooking debut tomorrow at Phillips and over whoever the opponent is. I'd have your eyes out for all sorts of jacquianery. Yeah, exactly right. Have you examined the fans for cameras? I would I would not discuss plays in the locker room. It might be bugged. I would not leave your play sheet in the waistband because Ernie's going to have his guys rifle through it. I wouldn't have any, you know, headset communication because he'll have someone tap into it. I'd worry about the bus being bugged and all that. Yep. That's what I that's so whoever the opponent is. Good luck. Definitely. I'd run a tight ship, especially there, especially going to end over everyone's it's all bugged. So just keep an eye out. Awesome. Matt is in summer. They'll go ahead. Matt, what do you got on an agenda free Friday? I'm kind of confused as to why Steph Gilmore's retiring as a patriot.
Me too. He had a great few four years here, but he's not some iconic patriot or anything. So it's a bit of a deal. So maybe it's just because he went to, you know, Buffalo Carolina, where else? He was in Buffalo longer though. They drafted him. He was here five years. I guess it's because they won the air and he's probably pissed at the bills for something. So what's a stick at the one? Something like that. This is stupid. Who else is going to retire a patriot? So I mean, I can get and I would if I were I'm a do I can get why he wanted to do it. I don't know why we're taking him. I say, we get you. I don't know why you're taking him. So in Buffalo five years, New England four and then one each at Carolina, Indy, Dallas, and Minnesota, where is he going to retire? Like it's like I get why he wants to do it. Yeah. Why does he have to retire anywhere on a one day contract? How about just retire and go away? He's really not one day contract worthy. No, that's the thing is like who the hell is he? Rache called up would also like to retire as a patriot. Right. Exactly. He has more.
He had a more notable career than those two. No, he did. I'm here for four years. I'm saying that to drive home the point. Oh, my gosh. Seriously, what other guy who freak out? Revis? How about Revis? Why not Revis? Retire him to what the hell? Give him a one day contract. What other chump can you bring him? Jake and Cumberland on the Patriots. Go ahead, Jake. I'm Hey, what's on on? I'm a subject of running. Why was a patriot? Eliminate Hill Sprints in practice. Greg Bidard said on Tuesday, instead they're doing like 10 yard sprint. Yep. I don't really understand that because Hill Sprints are one of the best, you know, condition exercises of all time. It could only help their receivers and running backs, you know, get a better burst. So why do they eliminate Hill Sprints? Why do they have an easy camp? Why does Raeble play off of those things? Can I answer what I think the answer is? Sure. Some freaking knob on the third floor in the sports science department said, well, study show that everyone there, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
That he's following the lead of the analytics people. I'd probably write. And that's as they all do. Yeah, my guess it has something to do with, you know, not having your legs at the end of the year when you need them. I wish he used his experience, but my guess is that he's turned it over to whoever the Patriots have hired and are paying to run the formulas. Is my guess is like most teams. So that's just a guess, but that's what I think. Here's Big Jim Murray's update. We're back with more. Good luck to our New England footballs. Now for a... Felt your image on the sports hub. Pack your phone, sir. On the gender free Friday. Let's get this out of the way. Jake and Boston, what do you got, Jake? Well, Michael, we have a new voting system in place for the NFL Hall of Fame after debacles of the previous years. And well, I think it will be favorable to Bill Belichack. Robert Crap did it, Macklemore, what he did to Bill Belichack's NFL coaching prospects. And then you throw in the dynasty and then begging Stacy to beg voters.
Hall of Fame voters were turned off by that. So given what's gone on the last, oh, I don't know, a couple days, do you think the Hall of Fame wants to invite protesters and turn their induction ceremony into a political event and did Robert stick his foot in his mouth and potentially cost himself the Hall of Fame for future years understanding it's gonna be a, you know what, show. Well, this one was worth it. I'll tell, I'll say that. At least he was on the right side on this one. And if he loses it for this, it's the right reason. In my opinion, but I doubt it. I think people are keeping them out for other things for petty or things than this. Neediness, I think, more than anything else is the reason they're keeping them out. I just think he's turned people off over the years with his neediness for the Hall of Fame. So people were keeping them out well before the Macklemore thing. So the Macklemore thing is not going to be the thing that keeps them out. It's that other thing in my opinion. Well, it already has kept them out. Like it's right to me exactly. Yeah, it already has. So like I don't think this has any bearing on it at all. How about Brian in doorchester? What do you got Brian?
I thought it was hilarious. So if you don't look at running quarterback, just draft game accuser, the 52nd. When we drafted, have I thought, God, this guy has a lower than a steam engine's axle. And what is ceiling, you know, is he, like adjust the Houston as he mad after like three or two. At best, he might be Harold Landry, like high watermark. If you're expecting to be Javanca, young Javanca, I think you're crazy. But if he works out in the league, maybe he's Harold Landry. I mean, I don't know what the ceiling is, but I, you know, I'd like to see it reached. I can tell you that. And overall, he only played 19 snaps. I think it was in the first game. But under the circumstances and how bad the preseason was, he was okay. I know. I was, I was, I was frankly expecting him to be out of uniform. Right. A complete zero. He was so bad in the preseason started late. And was out there in those shwaggy games, like they treated him like a reserve. I would not have been surprised if they had kept him out of uniform. Yeah. I was pleasantly surprised in week one.
Again, it was only 19 snaps, but maybe, you know what? Maybe he's one of these guys that plays better on game day. I don't know. But so far, I don't have any complaints. Sid is in Brookline. I said, hi, I love you. Sure. I mean, before I begin, I must say I'm devastated that Mike is taking that L. And I'm losing that unwavering support on Steelers philosophy. But coming to the game, I'm perhaps a better QB and coach. So if this gets close, it will be for two reasons. Rogers took a lot of shots in the middle way more than last year. So if not for Metcalf drops, you would have had easily better stats. Especially if Pitman plays, it will come down to which team made a better choice. Pitman or dogs. And second, May Panicking and turning over is a big deal. Patrick Graham beat him without much high and talent last year. Now he has a lot and he works. So let's see. OK, well, the last thing I saw was Patrick Graham, who was the defensive coordinator with the Raiders beat Drake May last year. True.
Except, I mean, is that real? Like was Drake May, Drake May in week one? No, no, you know what I mean? Like you were talking about was there too much on his plate? You know, that was that was plate gate after that. That's my plate gate. I don't think I was about Patrick Graham. I think the, you know, the Patriots hit their stride, obviously, in the, you know, at the end of the first month of the year. And he and they became a whole different operation. So I don't look at it saying that Patrick Graham got to him last year. I look at it as they hadn't hit yet. But we'll see. If, you know, if it looks the same way, then maybe I will turn around and give Patrick Graham the defensive coordinator, who's now in Pittsburgh, some of that credit. I do like his point, though, about pitman and dogs. OK, so on that. Yeah. So look, Pitman had three catches for 58 yards in week one. He looks slow. But I don't know that I'm called dogs a burner. So, you know, yeah, let's see how it goes. I think, you know, Pitman to me as a fit for Rogers feels like a good match. Because I don't think, you know, they got the guy who can just
run down the field in DK Matt Caff. So let's see how it shakes out. Pitman had 80 catches last year. He's not, you know, he's not a great receiver, but I think he's reliable. And let me tell you, the thing about, you know, the Steelers only scored was a 13, 16 points, 19. Yeah, whatever was. Rogers was better than the score would indicate, as I think the college just sort of referenced, DK Medcaff flat out dropped at least one that would have been a touchdown or brought them deep into the red zone. There was a 40 yard pass interference that the, may have been pitman, but the receiver basically got tackled. He would have walked in for a touchdown if they had not, you know, plainly interfered with them. And then there were like another couple that DK Medcaff just dropped as well. Pittsburgh, they're talking about check down Charlie. They're right out of the shoe trying to get Rogers out of being a check down Charlie and the push and the ball down the field more and they tried a lot in week one. It just didn't work, but it was really more the receivers
than it was Rogers. So I want to see how they, what they do for coverage, the Patriots. Like Winchip or Gonzalez on Metcalf put in put Carlton Davis on pitman. And don't you think that Gonzalez could wipe him out? You would think so. I mean, like that's just cut. That's, I don't want to say that's an easy matchup, but it's not like DK Medcaff is some sort of master tactician, you know, route runner. He like to do his run with him. He big, big guy who runs down the field. Yep. Gonzalez is a big guy who can run down the field. Absolutely. I like Gonzalez in that matchup. I would definitely do that. I like the Patriots defensive backs against receivers either way. And Carlton Davis should be able to cover pitman. Pitman's not fast and they're both tall. Is Davis playing? Oh, right. Cause of the he's been out this week. Larry and and over. Go ahead, Larry. Now we're going to talk about running quarterbacks. And I don't want to get beat up verbally on a Friday. So I'll say that for another day when Drake or Caleb win a Super Bowl. But I want to talk to Mads about the baseball lineup for the postseason. You got to leave.
Reluctantly, I got to leave story at shot. He make it lucky again. And maybe even from a 90 90 mile fastball, a career ball that they can hit. And the pitching, I would have my two lefties. Suarez and toley and then grave. We need to third game kind of Yankee Stadium. For the family. I can be first at let me stop you, Larry. Thank you for the call. I would not have Suarez pitcher New York. Cause he's backwards. He's a lefty that can be hit better by lefties and brighties. So I wouldn't have Suarez pitcher New York. I would go grade toley. And if you're even game three, no, no, I pitch him game. Well, you don't have a choice in New York. I'm thinking, sorry, no, they're all three or a new. I know, I know I was thinking that they would change after two. And obviously they don't. I'm just going on like, you know, auto pilot there. So yes, I would pitch him in game three, but I wouldn't pitch him in one of the first two. No, he's not your, but you know, again, he's not your one of your two best pitchers. Long commercial. Every segment comes your way next. Don't go anywhere. Boston's best sports talk. You can count on it. Two plus a two is a five.
Mezento, papateado, bero, quero. Feldman, man. I live on. Son. Story with two on. Swing in a shot. Deep out to left. Lankford's racing back. And that ball is out of here. Trevor's story has put the socks in front. Get his touches of all. Get in the squad. Get in the squad. Stay in the squad. You know, he followed off that nasty slider from last earlier. He said, man, that's a tough pace to fight up. We gave it him again. Just down and in. This is a line drive that gets out of the ballpark. There's your life. There's your excitement and energy to looking for. Holy cow. Yeah, I love you. His first home run since May 13th. What a time to do it. Wow. Red sucks up for three. Meanwhile, that happened last night. You still want him off your playoff roster, man?
Yep. So the playoffs began tonight. Trevor's story would not be in uniform. Yeah, I mean, I know it's a feudal argument because it's going to happen. He's swung the bat very well. He's hitting like 349 or something since he came back. You're going to have someone hitting almost 350 out of uniform. Yeah, because I don't think he's going to see that pitch in the playoffs. 80 mile an hour curveball, middle in. D. High. How stupid do you have to be? The Rangers should miss the playoffs just for that decision alone. That is colossally stupid. You throw him the one thing he can hit. Something soft from a left hander. Duh. Idiots. The pitcher should be, it should be demoted for freaking agreeing to throw the pitch. Stupid, stupid, stupid. It's the only thing he can hit. The guy's always been able to hit lefties and he can't hit velocity. So you throw him an 80 mile an hour breakable from a lefty. Dumb. Really dumb. You don't want someone who can hit a mistake out of the ballpark in the postseason. So this is the argument. Yes, this is the argument I understand.
I told you, I'm just not a fan of the player. And so I think Trevor story is an easy out. And against the Yankees, you're going to get high velocity and you're going to get smarter pitching. So Dwight. Now look, I hope he proves me wrong. I mean that. I just don't like the player. I never really have. I think Trevor story was largely a product of course field. I think that he could hit left handers to the balls coming in toward him. But if you get a lefty who throws hard and elevates, he won't hit him either. You just can't throw him anything soft middle in. Couple of Red Sox thoughts Dave in Worcester. Yes, Dave. Hey guys, Matt, do you think there's any correlation with Breggman going to Chicago and now Armstrong's having an MVP season. It looks like he's the runaway at this point. But I mean, if the Red Sox had any clue, they would have kept him here knowing the value he has for the younger players. I mean, Christ, you don't even have Roman Anthony starting in the playoffs as of yesterday's display. Well, Dave, the socks have a clue. They knew that Breggman's value.
Yeah, they didn't want to pamph. Correct. So, but no, he raises a good point. I didn't necessarily make the connection that he did. You know, that Crow Armstrong's having this monster year. Now that is veteran on the roster and it's a good thing to look at. So put it this way, him being there isn't hurting the guy. I know that. I know that. I'm hurting Crow Armstrong and Breggman's had a hell of a second half. He has been unbelievable really the last month, month and a half. So he absolutely has been ripping it up and they're getting their money's worth there. Here's Noel in Rhode Island. Go ahead, Noel. It's on something we haven't had yet this week. Go ahead, Noel. No, well, hi guys. So there was, there was a press conference for Fall George and a question was asked and it was basically, can you still perform at a superstar level? And his response to that was very interesting. And he goes, I'm not here to be a superstar. We already have a superstar. His name is Jason Tatum. And I'm not here to take away from him. I'm here to add on to him. And I'm like, wait a minute. That wasn't the answer. I mean, that wasn't the question. That's a very strong and deliberate answer. And you would have thought maybe somebody in Boston media would ask, hey, where is that
coming from? Is that something you feel, something you're seeing, something you heard around? Nobody asked. And it leads me to ask you guys, what do you think that comes from? You think the Celtics media is going to go down a uncomfortable, but you stop with that. Does not what they do. But the response was extremely differential. Yeah, it was. And it's just what the Celtics want. Again, exactly right, Maazier thoughts. Yeah, this is this is the whole reason they made the change. They got rid of Jalen Brown because he was threatening Jason Tatum's place atop the roster. It was making it a little cloudy. And so they didn't want to deal with it anymore. They got rid of Jalen Brown and they brought Paul George in at a third age where he's not the player he used to be anymore. And frankly, he was kind of always an underachiever. If you look at him, I'm not talking about individually. I'm talking about the fact that how many different teams did he change in theory as a center piece guy and they failed everywhere he went. So at this stage, just get in line and be this guy's valet for lack of a better term. That's exactly what the Celtics want this to be.
They want it to be Jason Tatum's team and they cleared the deck for him. And again, so it's just it was a tip off that the question was nothing to do with. It was about can you play at that level? But even George is so sensitive to it and is so understanding of the dynamic here that he won't even talk like that because it would come off as potentially that thing that they just went through with Brown and Tatum. And so it's another tip off of what was really going on here. They just yeah, they wanted to give the team to Tatum and have everyone else get out of the way. And George who is credit knows it. Sean and Salem go ahead Sean. If they put the sea on his uniform, I'm out for Tatum. But anyway, to the Patriots, Michael, you know my obsession with the red zone off and just stop one second. Did they do captains? No, I mean, they have had team captains in the past, but they don't typically publicize it. They don't do a sea on the jersey. I remember it's not the way it works. No, like when bird was here, bird was the captain, but no one ever.
Yeah, it was going to talk about a lot. Yeah, I'm a pierce might have been at one point or grind at. I my guess is yes, but it's not something they ever talking about. Okay, Sean, whether he's got the sea, he is. It's they've turned the franchise over to it's all about him. So go ahead and puking your mouth, whatever you're going to do. Not only the captain, he's the admo, he's a president of basketball operations. He's when he's talking about it's beyond captain, but go ahead. Basically, anyway, to the Patriots in their red zone offensive woes that I always talk about, they addressed it this offseason by bringing in brown, but they also brought in dots who shockingly was a top 15 red zone guy last year on paper, but I think we can all agree doesn't pass the ice test. So he doesn't feel like a rabble guy. So whose idea was this? The nerds, McDaniel's stretch. Cool. That's what I'm going to give to Ellie Wolf. That's what that's my got to the green bathing. Yeah, that's my got to. I was thinking about that in the carnivore. It's so weird that you just said that. So, you know, and I doubt he was there. I'm looking it up.
Ellie Wolf was long gone by the time the Packers drafted Romeo dobs, but it just wreaks of a green bathing. Yeah, that's what I felt too. And let me just tell you, having watched it back when I watched the Packers, the red zone stuff for Romeo dobs is kind of scheme like they run these little picks and these little play. You know, it's not like he, it's not like, oh, we're in the red zone, throw it up to Romeo in the back of the corner, you know, back corner of the end zone and he goes and gets it or no, they have all these clever little offensive plays that he really benefited from. And that's why I think he scored his touchdowns. I do not and they were happy to throw first and goal from the two and, you know, do that. And dobs was a big beneficiary of it. I don't think that he was, you know, I don't know what would make him a red zone threat other than that. Like there's nothing physically about him. The red zone threats are the big guys, right? Wouldn't you say? Yes. So, uh, when he is last year in Green Bay was 2017.
So that was well before I think Romeo does. Yeah, I do. So maybe he knows the scouts that looked at him or the, I guess the whole sort of thing. I, that would be my guess that it's an Elliott Wolf guy because we've all collectively believe though, the Elliott Wolf is just there to go over the border to get zins for my grabel. So which is it? Well, they throw them a bone like I know I'd receiver. Maybe rabble was too busy. Uh, can do, can do the link in a hot tub somewhere. Right. There is that. And there was a little bit of a power vacuum this off season, which Elliott Wolf filled. He definitely did. He ran day three of the draft. Maybe they were other days that rabble was running around doing his thing. I get to put the big boy pants on. I'm just good. I wouldn't be surprised if they knocked rabble down a peg. Something like that. You know, good excuse. Uh, yeah. And last thing the crafts want is a coach getting too big for his bridges. So anything they could use to put rabble in his place, I think they would use. I want to keep an eye on rabble how he answers questions about dogs because the one he got asked the other day, he did not take kindly to.
He hard to tell whether that was a filipary thing or Romeo dobs thing, but I'm with you. We'll keep an eye out. There's a update from Big Jim 90 seconds, no commercials. I'm right back.
