Breaking down if the Eagles have short-term or long-term issues (Hour Four)

We were getting ready to praise Jalen Herstner's performance yesterday, but unfortunately we just got some breaking news out of the NFL. All right, according to Ian Ravaport and Adam Shafter Eagles tight end Dallas Godter who continues to be a big part of their offense. Suffered a sprained MCL in Sundays when over the Titans test revealed today. He's expected to miss a few weeks. That is according to Ian Ravaport a tweet. He just put out moments ago. Yeah, listen, we had Nick Cereoni live at three o'clock and the way he answered the question both Ricky and I said, didn't sound great. It sounded like it was hinting towards that. Well, he was hinting. He was letting us know, but didn't let us know. I mean, that's never a good thing. And and and quite

1:00frankly, I mean, he's irreplaceable, but I mean, the way Ravaport put it, it's a couple weeks. Few weeks. That doesn't sound like much to me. A few weeks. That's four. He said a few. I thought you was three. A few is four. You is two. Now a couple is two. Yeah, couples two. A few is four. Now, fuse three. Use three. A few is four. I'm checking this. How many is a few? Usually means three or four. According to it. So we're both right. Yeah, we're both right. Several means five to seven. So you three to four. It's a, it means a small number. All right. Well, here's the problem. It's all it means. A small number. I think if he even misses three games, even if it misses two, the Eagles are going to have to do something because you have Eli Stowers already on IR. I know where you're going. You can't trust Johnny Mon and EJ Jenkins to be the answer here. They're going to have to sign Zach Hertz. They're going to have to. At this point, you're going to have to take a flyer on Zach Hertz. You don't have any other options. You have Chicago, the Rams and Jacksonville coming up.

2:04And that Jacksonville game is the London game. 9 30 AM game. These are big games coming up. Now you catch a break. You probably don't have to get Caleb Williams on Monday night. You catch a break there. But then the Rams and the Jags, Jags are playing good football right now. You're not going to be able to just roll out what you have. Unfortunately, I think Zach Hertz is making his return. There's no doubt at this point. I wasn't I wasn't in on signing Zach Hertz until now. You got her, Tert. You got to do it. You're only going to need him hopefully for three or four games. He's a leader. The fans will love it. We know he can catch the football. I'm sure he'll be able to contribute. I'm I'm in signed Zach. I see what you're saying. Do you even know if he's healthy? Isn't that nice? That would be an issue, one. He's got a past physical. Yeah, past physical. Learn the offense. Is it going to be too little too late? Was Hertz ever that great of a blocker either and that he wasn't ever agreed on talking about. Everybody goes directly to Zach Hertz because he used to be here. Well, and you all start to remember that.

3:05Remember how good the tight ends, Tucker craft were in Green Bay under Sean Manion's offense. You saw on week one, Dallas got it had two touchdowns. Like, and you could see the difference with him out yesterday in the offense. He's not there for a couple of weeks against some really good teams. That's a problem because they want to utilize a tight ends in this scheme. Multiple they go 12 personnel. You need two tight ends on the field. Oh, that's not just one. Well, you signed Zach Hertz later on the season. Then you have Dallas got it and Zach Hertz and you can go to tight ends. Bringing her some believe. Bring them back. It really is. You're going straight. Everybody wants to bring somebody else back all the time. Well, right now, who's available? There's got to be somebody out there. I don't think so. Hertz has been the name is. Is Hertz even and I'm saying available in the sense that. Is he available to play right now? I'm pretty sure that's why the discussion came up with Zach Hertz because he is ready to go coming off of that last injury that he suffered.

4:05I don't know if it'll be the same Zach Hertz. I mean, he's way older than he once was. He's coming off a big time injury. I mean, he's not going to be like at all star. Maybe he will be. But I don't think that's going to happen. To Ricky's point though, let me clarify them what I would do because Ricky's right. You're Collins, Zach Hertz right now. You're getting them into the building and you're evaluating what he's got left. You're going to maybe put them through some medical testing, seeing what he has left. If he has anything left in the tank, I think you got to do it. Well, I get I get the situation. I mean, he did have an injury last year, but I mean, I would. Would you give him a chance? Yes. Why not? Do you have anything to lose in that situation? No, no, you don't. No, I mean, and you're not talking about a guy that needs to come in here and be the focal point of your offense. You need a guy that could come in here that could get a job done period. Yeah, look Eli Stowers. It's not. You're not running into him. He's not ready. No, he's not. No, he's a Jenkins, but Eli Stowers. It's tough for rookie tight ends in this week. It is. So I'm not saying that Eli Stowers won't grow in the being a good tight end,

5:07but it's very unfortunate that he wasn't ready as a rookie because this could have helped you alleviate his title. Okay. If you bring an earth, do you think he's ready for Sunday? Nah, you're probably right. That's what I'm talking about. So one week is gone. Well, it's Monday night. It's Monday night. Yeah, excuse me. Monday. Well, I will add this. That means McCoy Lemmon needs to have a bigger role this week. That needs to happen. You need to have McCoy Lemmon get involved. Should he should be getting to the point where he's all caught up? McCoy Lemmon, yes. I agree with you on that. So we'll see what happens, but this is a big loss. I mean, no matter how you slice it, it's a big loss for the Eagles. And it kind of leads now to our big question of the day. Eagles have struggled through the first two weeks. Is it just growing pains or is it signs of a bigger issue? And when we look at now just offensively, God hurts hurt. You don't really have a backup plan. Land and Dickerson gets hurt. Your backup plan is moving Cam Jurgens to guard and starting Drew Kendall,

6:08who was a fifth round draft pick last year, who only has one start under his belt too. Now I was voting early on that these were just growing pains. But now it's like, man, are these signs of bigger issues? Your tight end room was already light. You lose Goddard. Your offensive line depth was already going to be tested. And they didn't necessarily have the greatest of games. Oh, man, I don't know. Defensively, I think they're going to be fine, Ricky. Defensively, I'm not worried. Why are you not worried defensively? Is it just because of Vick Fandio? Now as the players, seeing the same defense that I want, I haven't seen the defense I wanted to see yet. No, you're right on that. There hasn't been the pressure up the middle is bothering me. Should a jailing Carter be pushing people around? Shouldn't Jordan Davis be taken over his right? This is all banged up. It doesn't matter. I'm just saying you're a beast. Get the hell in there. But he has a brazenly. It's like a sprained wrist or something. What do you want to call me? No, he's crazy. I think it's a break. He's playing with a break. He's got a cast on. I know. That's what I'm saying. That doesn't mean it's a bro.

7:08It's something. Well, it's something that I really tell us. Yeah, but it's that well, if he's healthy enough to play, he's healthy enough to do something. Agree with you. Use that. Use that club to the best of your ability. But here's why I'm not worried. Punch the ball out. It's not only it's not only Vick Fandio. We've seen Vick Fandio's defenses tend to get better and better as the season goes on. But I just think there's too much talent. They're over two right now. Yeah, but there's too much talent on the opposite on that side of the football. Like you're going to get Grinard back. Well, yeah, you get Grinard back. I think that helps. But I mean, you need a lot more pressure on quarterbacks than they've been doing right now. Remember, they lost Nikobe Dean who called the place on defense right up the middle. That's a massive loss. And you see what he's doing in Vegas right now. He's playing well. That's a huge loss. So that's a difference. But I'm not worried. I mean, maybe if this will come back to bite me, I am not worried about the defense and the slightest. I think the defense is going to be fine. The issue is the offensive line and the tight end is an extension of your offensive line. And in this offense, even more so because of how they love to run 12 personnel.

8:10So Mike biggest concern right now is the offensive line. And now the tight end position. You just average 2.8 yards per carry in this game against the Titans. That's not going to cut it. That's no, we're near good enough. How does it get better? I am not buying. You know, Nick, you haven't been with us for that long, but I push every single day about the trenches. I will sit here till I'm blue on the face and I will tell you if these guys are not doing their job up front, nothing's happening behind them. Well, that's offensively and defensively. But yes, I was besieged. Well, I said the trenches. Yeah, I did. I heard it. Now, but when I look at it right now, they are not opening up holes. Jalen Hertz is running for his life every single play. That's not what you want to see. You want to see some kind of cohesion from offensive line to running backs to quarterback. It's not ideal situation right now with what they're dealing with on the offensive line, tight end position. I mean, you are catching a break though.

9:11I haven't looked at the odds Monday night football against the Bears with no Caleb Williams, most likely even with the banged up offensive line and no Dallas, Goddard, I still would expect the Eagles to be massive favorites in that game going up against the back up quarterback. But then week four against the LA Rams, I don't, I don't feel as good about that game without Goddard and without an offensive line that's playing well. What's the line right now for the Bears? Three and a half on the road. Yeah, even without Caleb Williams. That line's scary. It opened at I think one and a half. It's gone to three and a half. Should it be higher for the Eagles? Yeah, yeah, I would think so. I would have thought the Eagles would have been a touchdown favorite in that game. Who's their backup quarterback in Chicago? Who played yesterday? Oh, oh, um, I don't know. No, no, no, no, no, because I can see them, but I don't know who it was. Oh, it's Tyson, uh, but, but Gent, bag, and how do you say his name?

10:14I don't know what that one is. He's been there for a couple of years, but I don't think he's ever started. And then they have case Keenum is like a third stringer. I'm surprised that three and a half lines scares me already. You take a lot of consideration into that because it's three and a half because Caleb Williams might play is my guy. He's not playing. Dude, if he plays after screaming like he got shot, I lose all respect for Caleb Williams. He did. That was awfully loud. I mean, to be honest with you, I've never heard anything like that in my life. He let out a cry. Like literally he got shot in the leg and they're saying it's a mild hamstring string. I don't know. I will look at me and Matt from Potsdale and has an idea. We said Zach Hertz. How about this idea from Matt from Potsdale? What's going on, Matt? Hey guys, how's it going? I was, it was for you guys that brought this up. This is, I talked about it another time. Slide prior to the start of the season. We were talking about Eagles because tight end is a big spot for me. I like the tighter position and the going into that season with just

11:14gottered and the rest of our depth chart was crazy to me because this is such a big part of the West Coast offense that he liked to run and what he did out there with the Rams. So when you look at it, what's available? And I do like Zach Hertz and you gotta think before that injury, he's coming off a 50-ket season. So he still has some gas in the tank. Like he can bring something. But I think there's two other better options that could be out there if you're really looking to immerse them into our offense for the next couple of weeks. The first one would be David and the Joker. He's huge. He is a physical specimen. He's a very versatile athlete and he can do a lot of things with him. And then the other one in the same idea, just not as big, Tyson Hill. There's so many things that you could do with him in this offense from the tight end, H-back, slot type position. And both of those guys are available. They'll cost you next to nothing. I don't think in Joker's apartment. I think in Joker's on the chart, isn't he? I thought he got hurt. There's a little problem. Tyson Hill is 36 years old. Yeah, but I do hear that, but he wouldn't be utilized the same way he was in

12:17New Orleans where he was more of a focal point. Like you were talked about if we brought in Earth. We're not looking at him to be the number two or number three option, necessarily. He is a, he would be much like Zachary. And again, Zachary's coming off 50 catches. He's a, you have to account for him in a defense or it's going to cost them. So. Yeah, I understand that. Take some hill, but in Joker real quick is on the chargers and he got hurt on something. Okay, but when you think about it, you look at, uh, take some hill. He had 11 receptions last year. 13 games, 11 receptions. Is that helping you here? No. 36 years old. Yeah, and he's, he's taken some hits in this clear. Yeah, he's taken some beatings. Think about it. He quarterback too at times. Zach Erts. I wonder because what we learned about Zach Erts when he was here and even his time with the commanders, even if he's lost a step, I feel like he's a savvy enough receiver to find the opening. Like his Travis Kelsey still in the best shape of his life. Them quickest.

13:17No, but he's a savvy enough tight end that he knows how to play the game and get open. He knows how to space knows how to sit in zones. Correct. I think Zert Zach Erts might be able to still do. I mean, if you look at the numbers of, take some hill. They're not very good. This career, how many career touchdowns you think he is? Who's that? I'm talking about receiving. Take some hill. Probably not, man. 11. Yeah, he was, he was their weird gadget player. Yeah, that's what it was. And now you're 36 years old. I don't think a gadget player is the, is the way to go. So Nick Earnshaw's putting some other free agents on the board. In addition to Erts, you got Will Dysley, Tyler Conklin, Nick Venette, Stone Smart. They're all free. And you know what a lot of people are saying? Who? Who? Yeah. There's a reason why, why those names are up there and people say who? And there's a reason why everyone immediately goes to Erts because we know him. Yes. And his career was pretty damn good. Well, because if you think about it in the off season, what were you hearing? Zach Erts name come on. Yeah. So let's get back to them.

14:17Let's redial. Let's go to redial. It makes sense. It would make sense considering you're, you're only using them for a few weeks, really? Would he be interested in that? I guess you would. I guess you would. If you really wanted to play, you would take that shot. I mean, think about what if he has three good games? He's talking about Erts. Yeah. Yeah, keep him as a second or third tight end. Yeah, I don't know. Yes, I know what he's coming off of. Nick, thank you. Yeah, Nick, you're in Tornace, L season ending is a matter of fact. Yeah. I don't know. It scares me because that was only nine months ago. The other thing is that's why I said, is there any way he is completely healthy? These guys come back quick. Yeah, they've come back quick off ACLs. The whole night. I'm on December. What's the age difference? True. True. Erts is getting up there. But his name wouldn't really come up if he wasn't ready to come back. I don't know. We'll be the same player. Well, agents, agents get their names back up. True.

15:17Yeah, that is true. But I also know like the Eagles are considering Zachary. It's whether or not it happens. I don't know, but I know there are in consideration from people. Something has to happen. Something has to happen. I mean, they have no depth right now at the tight end position. Nothing. Like to let people a little behind the scenes here, before Ian Rampipore reported the injury, I reached out to a few people after Cereonis press conference, because we all said that didn't sound good. So I reached out to a few people and I was told, yes, when I asked his God, they're going to miss some time. I just wasn't going to report it, because I didn't get clear. What's going on here? No, but I mean, what is going, I knew it first. That's not the point of this point. What is the point? The point is my follow up to it was, are you considering Zacherts and the answer I got was yes. So the point is I know they're considering him, whether or not they're actually going to sign them. I don't know, but Zacherts is certainly a consideration, and they're going to talk to him. I just don't know, like you said, what he has left. And all you know, like you're on a spinning. How many different considerations do you think they have right now?

16:18There's only a handful of those names. I just mentioned or free. No, no, they make a trade unless they make a trade. Unless they make a trade. That's also a spot right now to make a trade. I guess if they made it, because you're talking about three weeks, if they made a trade for, if they made a trade, I think it might tell you how they feel about Eli Stowers being ready this year. If they don't think Stowers is ever going to be ready this season, then maybe would you prefer to use that capital on a tight end at this point or before the trade deadline on someone in the trenches, defense or offense? Got to be able to use you know what? That is a good point, but I think the defensive trenches have a better chance of coming around in the offensive side. Well, we want, we got to say, man, this is going to be an interesting week. It's going to be an interesting week. What do the Eagles do? We want them to make a deal. Well, neither one was a first round draft pick, but yet both win at a very high level. Both have been to the mountain top and one championships. Neither one is the extrovert with the media, but yet they're both stone, cold assassins when it's winning time. Jalen Brunson is a little bit more love nationally because he plays in New York, but that's my opinion on that one. Yeah, if you missed it earlier, Dremont Green compared Jalen Hertz to Jason Taden, which I didn't like because Taden's corny is hell and Jalen Hertz is smooth. Completely different people. But Jalen Brunson's not a bad comparison. I think that's a pretty decent cop right there.

20:23Jalen Brunson is a champion and unfortunately for us and the next winning the championship, but kind of underdogs, both underdogs drafted late in the, oh, second round, you know, we're neither neither one were first round picks. I don't hate it. I would and I mean in my eyes, I look at it like there's always been doubters on both of those guys. Brunson is everything you want in a basketball player, right? Jalen Hertz is everything you want to football player in your franchise. I'm going to back. How many people have you heard say there's no way Brunson could lead a team to a champion? A lot of similar. It's a great one right there. That is awesome. Yeah, and Brunson doesn't have all the measurables. But he had he wins. He might be my favorite player here in play for the next. Oh, Nikki. I know. He plays for the next though. That's the problem. I know I hear you though. It's a problem. I like for the next. I like him too. All right, what else we got? I want to give props to Ricky Batalicow. Kirkering should have never pitched this season for the Phillies. He was right all along.

21:26Yeah, did you say they shouldn't they should have gathered at the beginning of the season? Yeah, I would have traded him so he could if you remember, I was saying he needs to go somewhere else. That's right. Not not not because he wasn't good, but more because bad things have already happened here. Changes scenery. Yep. But once again, it's another Dumbbrowski mistake. It is a, well, he ran the team back. I mean, they're still making the playoffs. Yeah, I guess we should be excited about that. I'm saying they're making the playoffs because I believe they're still making the playoffs. Oh, that's awful, Nick. I didn't hit that. That wasn't even me. It was. I saw you turn around and hit it. The struggling to send something that's just growing pains. I think the office line will, we'll get together throughout the season to get better. Right now, I think we're just struggling with growing, just growing pains. That's going to get better as season goes on.

22:29Yeah, growing pains. I'm leaning more that way as well. We asked the question on the Twitter poll. Growing pains are a sign of bigger issues. I'm leaning more growing pains, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have some serious concerns about the O line and now the tight end room. You're not going to win a lot of games if you're average in 2.8 yards per carry in the rushing attack and as good as Jalen Hertz has been. If he's under constant duress, I don't care who you are. It's going to be tough to win a line. I thought Andrew DeChico, I didn't interest the game. Because he said defensively things could change, but offensively, he's got a major concern about the offensive line, which I think we all do right now. And that could be long term. Because if they don't, I believe he said if they don't straighten out in 2 or 3 games, things could really kind of backfire from there. Yeah, I mean, the crazy thing is when you look at the offensive line as good as they've been, they haven't drafted an offense alignment in the first two rounds since 2022. That was Jurgen's. They haven't drafted an offensive line in the first round since 2019, which was Andre Dillard.

23:32So when you look at them now and a guy goes down like Lane and Dickerson has to go to IR, yeah. No surprise. You don't have a lot of depth. You haven't used any hydraff picks on the offensive line, which is not the MO of how he rose men in previous years. It's interesting that in the last seven years, they have one first round draft pick on the O line and he's not even ear anymore. Andre Dillard. I don't know, man. That's it. I mean, that's a good, it's just a good question. Is it just opening season woes and everything's going to kind of smooth itself out? The reason why you can't ask that is because the Eagles have done this, where things have been smoothed out and fixed. It's also going the other way, but yes, it has. 2020. 2023. 2023. Didn't go that way until like week eight. Yeah, but they were 10 and one to start that year. People had concern in week 12, but you're right. In the Super Bowl year, two and two start, people were sounding the alarms at the buy, and then they went on a tremendous tear. Who knows? Could go either way here. All right. What else we got? 26:36That's the problem with the entire discourse. It's just so polarized. One side club hurts, objective club hurts. I mean, chase. But as long as people, if you're going to do it, admit where you were wrong as opposed to just like pretend you agree. They can come on the bandwagon if they admit they were wrong. Gandana Rolowski come on the bandwagon. Oh, I like word Lovsky. Actually, we got to get him on. He was good. He was good. You can. He was good at you. He was. He wasn't so good in Detroit, but he was good at you. He's probably got the biggest. faux pas ever in the NFL. When he ran out the back of the end zone, then thought the play was still going on. Yeah, we're Lovsky. Now, but look, I have been critical of hurts when I think he deserves to be critical. My problem is the is the hurts haters who have an agenda, who push it for a certain narrative or for clicks or for whatever other reasons. As long as you're being objective with it, like I feel like we're Lovsky. I don't always agree with them, but he tries to support his opinions with some objectivity. He tries to have tape or stats to support it.

27:38Doesn't mean he's right, but at least he, I don't think he has an agenda. Let me say that. I think you're right about that. So what do we got one more? All right, let's get it in. There's two ways you look at these past two wins that we have. One of them is that we didn't beat anybody. We beat a bunch of bombs. We should have won by way more and we didn't.
