Hey, it's Jen Hatmaker. Here's what I've learned in midlife. Joy isn't the reward you earn after all the work is done. Joy is the work. That's what this new series on For the Love is all about. The sacred, yes. It's choosing delight, rest, and pleasure on purpose. Because saying yes to yourself, that's the thing that finally lets you fill your table with everybody else. Come find your sacred, yes, with me. Follow and listen to For the Love wherever you get your podcasts. No 92 9 the game. It's time for a round of yard with your Atlanta Braves on Duke's in Bell. It's great and hurriedly by Ronald Aconia, Jr. He has caught sports 3D on 92 9 the game. Let's head to the ballpark. It's our post game show guys here with Duke's in Bell. We will go until 6 Chris Turtle Thomas will take over and we're going to grab more of your phone calls. So Justin and Will stay there. We're going to grab you guys. Hold on. But Grant McCauley was there. Is there? And Grant, what a moment for Austin, Riley. And I'm curious to know what

what are guys saying on this team because they never gave up on this guy. Yeah. And I think that's really the prevailing thought, right? I asked Walt Wies about it. And he said, look, I've had the utmost belief in him that every time he goes up there, this could be the if that or the swing that turns his season around. You would never know by being around Austin. If he was having his best year or his worst year, he just never seemed to let that follow him around or somehow invade the space in that clubhouse. He just went through this mental battle to try to get himself back on track all year. And it's a tough game. I mean, it's a game of failure. And we saw it. And I talked to Austin throughout the season. And he said, I've learned that baseball is a very humbling game. It will throw a lot at you. And he went through it this year. But the beauty of this post season and this opportunity is everything is wiped clean. You get a brand new slate. And what you do with it, is ultimately in your hands. And that's where he found himself with a chance to put the braves ahead. And he did just that with that huge three run home or the opposite way. I'm sure that

lifted a great burden off of his shoulders. And there were a lot of excited teammates and coaches, managers, fans, I know you heard that. Chris sale said he was watching underneath, but his TV was on delay. So he heard the roar of the stadium first. And then it's like, oh, goodness, like what's happened? And then he got to watch it. But those two were sitting at the day, together just a few minutes ago. And there were a lot of questions to Chris sale. Mine was about Austin Riley, just like what the belief from one player to another in this team means, especially this time of year. And he said, that's one of the things that makes our team great. And you know, seeing Austin come through, I think everybody got a lot out of that. And not just Austin Riley for that big swing, but hopefully that's something that gets him going. And that's something that's the sign of things to come for the braves in this post season. Right on. And you mentioned Chris sale. We'll get to him getting pulled into seventh of your thoughts on that. The first thing we'll go chronologically. What about the we are I told Carl, I expect money Harris to be spider man and get everything. Was that just one of those fluke things over his head? I think that was a weird shadow ball to be honest with you because if you looked at center field,

it was the shadow of the scoreboard. And up at the top where it says true as park here, you could see that down in the center field warning track area. And I think that as he went up, even with the sunglasses on, once it hits the shadows, if you lose it for a fraction of a second, that's the difference in making a game saving catch and having one that just kind of ricochets around. And that's ultimately, I think what Harris was dealing with there. Okay. All right. Let's talk about the decision with the pitching. Did you have an issue with the way this went today? And why why's decided to pull sale when he did? It was a question we were talking about. Obviously, it worked to our favor, but grant your thoughts. Yeah, I'll give you the answer from both of those guys. Chris sale said that was the right call. Did he come in there? It was it was time. And Walt had said I was looking at the stuff and it seemed like it was just starting to take in the wrong direction. And throughout the course, the regular season, he basically said, I'll give Chris sale the leash and he has to give up the runs for me to take him out. But here in the post season, as we know, it's different, but he got the brazen to the seventh. He pitched well enough to

have not been charged with those three runs. He was upset about an early walk that led to a run, then a hit batsman that put runners on the corners there in Fuentes. It was just a great job of hitting by JT Ro Muto. I think you at some point, the other team is also doing its thing. It was a 99.4 mile an hour fastball dotted on the outside corner. And he lined it into right field. Ronald had some trouble with it. I think that allowed the second man to score. So a few different things were going wrong at that time. But I'm of the belief that you go with the guys that got you here. And Dinear Fuentes is one of those guys. And they've got Robert Suarez back. I think that maybe there's a hesitation to go to him in that spot because of the lack of appearances. He's late. I don't think that means we're just not going to see Robert Suarez. But Fuentes has been the recipe in the late inning. If you need big outs and you need swing and miss and you need to put down some of the most important outs of your game to get it to a glacius. Dinear Fuentes has proven himself time and again and Wattles asked, you know, what this is due to the psyche of a young pitcher and he said nothing. Dinear Fuentes is unflavable. I don't expect this to change anything. And I would make that

move every single time. All right. We're talking with Grant McColley. Guys, life from true is part brought to my mark spain real estate. What do you think of maddenly again guys? So the Dodgers do this when we play them bringing the closer early. What about Durand coming in for the two winning out? Are two winning save? I should say. Yeah, I got to hear Dinear Fuentes talking a little bit about that. And it says I was playing, you know, guess along with the manager while I was going. I think he just wanted his best reliever to face the best part of the braze lineup because it conceivably if Durand gets you through that, you don't have to face everybody again. And maybe you go to Alvarado to close in the ninth. He was going to check with Durand if he went quickly in the eighth inning. Well, he might have been out there to throw the ninth. It might have been a three inning situation for Durand. But it wasn't. It didn't work out. I'm the often Riley of bat as of right now seems to be the one that really just turned this whole game on its ear and gave the braze the shot that they needed. And a chance to win this game and rice elaglacious. The braze closer came in and got into and immediately out of trouble as quickly as possible. So those things worked out on the braze side. But I can't

blame Don Mattingley either considering what they've been through for wanting to just try to get the biggest out as quickly as he can because I don't know that the Phillies have a best laid plan for pitching today. They were just trying to get to tomorrow. And if they could steal this game, we'd be having a very different conversation right now. Grant, what is what's the bullpen look like for tomorrow and what are your expectations for Malley? Because now, you know, we said it. He's been the best acquisition as far as the trade deadline is concerned. And here's a moment to prove it tomorrow. Right? He's been really good for us. But this is going to be the biggest moment for him of the season. Yeah. And he's excited about this opportunity to pitch in the postseason for this team and clearly he's been a big reason. And I talked to Walt before the game and asked him a little bit about the belief that they have in Tyler Malley, given what they've seen the last couple of months. And he said, I feel really comfortable telling you that I don't know if we're here without him because you consider where the NL East was for a while in the second half with the Phillies getting to within a couple of games and with those huge series. And Tyler Malley threw some really important games for the Braves and against some really tough teams to help get him here. So that

belief is there. And the bullpened everybody's going to be available. Quentes didn't have to overdo it today. Dylan Lee did throw an inning. Rice Ella Glacius threw one. In it up being kind of a lower pitch count inning. So you didn't pitch yesterday. You hopefully don't have to pitch again in game three if all goes well. And you'll be able to reset before the DS. So I think the Braves are exactly where they want to be with their pitching plan. And it all starts with hoping to see another great performance from Tyler Malley. And speaking of pitching, I was telling Carl earlier, we also Christopher Sanchez in the All-Star game 18 wins. But he's been 500 and his ERA is over five his last six starts. Yeah, he is. I think and Luzardo clearly we haven't talked much about him, but what are performance for a guy that basically yes, been all a September on the injured list as well. Don Mattingley said quite frankly, we got more than we bargained for. I thought we were going to get from him. So you know, any questions about taking him any further, I think are probably misplaced. You're always going to have to lean on your bullpen. And I think that's why we saw the derand thing. But yeah, just looking at Christopher Sanchez from the 30,000 foot view, still one of the

better pitchers in the National League. I expect him to finish top five in the Saiyung Award. And you know, that's the kind of guy that if you're the Phillies, you love to have out there with your CSN on the line because you hope he can rise to the occasion. But on the flip side, the Braves took game one like they needed to. They're playing home field. The Phillies have had to basically empty everything out here in the final weekend of the regular season. And even again today. So it will be fascinating to see what tomorrow looks like. But you know, score more runs than the other guys. And you don't have to worry about much else. But I think the Braves from a pitching standpoint have everything aligned the way that they want it to be, especially now that they've taken game one and didn't have to overuse the bullpen to do it.
