Quick and brave actions by the captain of Flydubai flight 1073 and several of its passengers averted a deadly disaster, saving the lives of more than 170 people on board a flight headed from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing, but the details of what happened mid-air are nothing short of remarkable. A co-pilot who has now been detained, reportedly began stabbing the captain in an attempt to crash the plane. While being attacked, the captain was able to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers to rush in, neutralize the co-pilot and stabilize the plane that had dropped more than 17 thousand feet in less than two minutes. While it’s unclear whether this was an orchestrated terror attack, it is clear that the actions of a few, saved the lives of everyone on board.

Hey there folks, it is Thursday, October 1st, and heroes all over the place, including a plumber, who helped prevent the disaster in the air. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ Rose,
the more details come out, the more extraordinary this story gets. And we're gonna hear more. But this is an incredible collection of heroes who stepped in, and it sounds like they prevented a terrorist attack. Absolutely. I mean, for anybody who flies, this story will send chills from head to toe, but it also will make you a little proud that we're surrounded by, yes, people who are willing to jump into action. We have learned from the atrocities of 9-11, that if you do not try to neutralize the threat, they, there are folks out there willing to take down an entire plane. And that is what these passengers were able to do. And the pilot himself, the captain, also had to make the bold move of opening that cockpit door and alerting basically the rest of the plane as to what was going on and to allow access into the cockpit. Yeah, this is, as you were saying, I didn't, this is a Schengsville Pennsylvania story.
Absolutely. And this could have ended in that way except, Robes, it's possible they had enough altitude to recover the plane, possibly. But Robes, what we're talking about is that type of thing. That story we're so familiar with from 9-11, that they would not allow those terrorists to make it to their target. Yes. No, we're going to fight you. We're not, because they heard what had been happening that day. We all remember that. We don't know what this pilot copilot was possibly up to, if he just wanted to take down one plane or what he wanted to take out. But Robes, this heroism saved at least the 170 plus on board. And who knows what else? This is going to go down in history type of stuff. This is wild. We are talking about the fly Dubai flight. This was flight 107. It was headed from Dubai to Tel Aviv. And pretty quickly after takeoff, the rest of the cap and the passengers experienced something, nothing short of what's been described as a horror movie where
they didn't know if it was turbulence. But can you imagine dropping 17,000 feet in a period of less than two minutes? No, I mean, we've all been, you fly enough. You have those moments, right? Where it drops a little dramatically and kind of lifts you off your seat a little bit. We've all had that. Robes to experience that for a minute. These folks were sure they were about to die. Absolutely. And then you start hearing screaming coming from the cockpit. And yes, this captain, we have his name. He's an Indian pilot captain, Smith, Machachar, I guess is maybe how you say it. But he then manages while he's being attacked and stabbed by his co-pilot to unlock the cockpit door. And it was described as him like lurching out with the other pilot on top of him, stabbing him. And that's when at least four passengers jumped out of their seats while all of this is going on. And we're able to neutralize this co-pilot as they described him.
What else? We are talking about the cockpit fight, the likes of which we only see in movies. This type of horror scene, Rose, where somebody infiltrates the cockpit and takes over, attacks the other pilot kind of a thing. Robes, there's a life or death fight going on in there. If that pilot does not, let's not let me say win. If he doesn't survive that fight, that plane is going down. Absolutely. And the reports are when these passengers are neutralizing this guy, one of the passengers, well, they said they saw he was trying to jam the instruments on the actual plane itself. And so, yes, Trump told this story in the Oval Office last night that Netanyahu told him that a plumber was one of the passengers who had the sense to lift a stick and stop the plane from its nose dive. That would be the plane's throttle. Most people would describe it as.
But apparently this plumber learned what to do from a reality show he watched. It was either called air disasters or air crash investigation, depending on what country you watched it in. But he said he was obsessed with the show and saw this lever pushed down. He knew he had to lift it up to get the plane out of a nose dive. Whatever works. What? Whatever works. Bro, this is this. And this is just we're just 24. We're just 24 hours from getting away from the details. Bro, once we start getting more and more and more of these stories, the details we have already, something like that, who this guy is, the how the pilot fought. And who, Bro, this story is extraordinary. That adds to just you got to be kidding me. How many things had to go right? Yeah. How lucky that this crew, how many, not the crew, how many lucky to these people on this plane have to be that he will happen to be the guy to get up.
That the plumber happened to be the guy who was a fan of a TV show and could just lift the stick really, they lift the stick by them some time until the actual like a backup crew took over. Yes, because they're just speaking of luck. They're just so happened to be two other people on board within the first few rows, I believe they said, who had piloting experience, who were able to go into the cockpit and land the plane safely. So you had to have people who knew how to operate a plane. You had to have a plumber who knew to get the plane out of the nose dive. You had to have brave folks be able to come in and neutralize this knife, wielding or maybe even axe, wielding co-pilot. And then a flight attendant, they said, got smart and used the headphones, wires, from the plane to tie up the co-pilot. This is like out of a movie. I want to give that pilot, I think they said in stable condition out of the woods, kind of a thing right now, right?
Robes deserves the lion's share of credit. They designed these things now to make sure you can't get into the cockpit, wrote because the threat we always think is supposed to be on the outside. This is a first. Robes, if he doesn't get that door unlocked, man, Robes is a different story. This is a different world almost even if that happens. I just have chills every time I imagine this, that this all actually took place on a plane. And yes, thank God that captain, because yes, by opening that door and letting people, letting passengers, letting the crew know what was going on, he not only was saving his own life, he saved the life of every single passenger on board that plane. That door, babe, he gave them a chance. That door is everything in this situation, because he is in their incapacitated, and the door is locked, you have no chance. He can do whatever he wants with that plane, fly it anywhere in the world,
almost you could even argue. Yes, they scrambled jets and probably would have gotten to it. Who knows? But still, you're talking about all those souls on board. A hundred and seven to four. Unlocking that door was everything. That it really is so hard to get your head around all the things that had to take place in a very short window of time for this plane to ultimately land safely with no reported injuries to any of the passengers. But I know you have been watching and listening and hearing some of those passengers who returned what they described. I mean, nearly everyone on that plane thought they were going to die. There was screaming, there was crying, there was praying, there was holding, there were, I love yous, mother talking about just holding her children, saying, oh my God, I'm going to cry. I love you like, as they're going down and you have your, can you imagine you're sitting there and your pilot halfway lurches out, bloodied with someone stabbing him? I just, it's just beyond comprehension to think about. We've heard enough stories and I'm taking nothing away from them.
It's still, but Rosy, we've heard enough stories. I think people might even have scenarios in their mind of what they would do if something like this happened. Rosy, a lot of people you get on flights now and you're looking for threats. You're looking around who's too drunk on this plane and all kinds of stuff, Rosy, we know not to mess around. When it comes to this, your life is immediately at risk. You know it when something's wrong on a plane. Rosy, how many, we've seen recently. Remember the guy they used? They duct taped them to a seat? Rosy, passengers, you're not going, no, no, we are all on the same team on this flight of some idiot tries to act up. You know, and I do think, I do think those heroes on that Shanksville plane who unfortunately didn't have the outcome that they were hoping for, but they inspired all of these other folks on planes going forward to act quicker to assume the worst and to neutralize the attackers like those brave
people on board that plane inspired so many others and saved countless lives going forward and specifically this flight. No question about it. So when we come back, we're going to tell you about what we know about this co-pilot and where the investigation goes from here. This episode is sponsored by Vinted. Welcome back everyone to Amy and TJ, what an unbelievable story in the air as
fly Dubai Flight 107 was heading from Dubai to Tel Aviv. It's incredible to know that everyone on board that plane survived, including the heroic captain of the plane who certainly by his actions saved everyone on board in addition to those four passengers who were brave enough to storm the cockpit. But what do we know about this knife wielding axe wielding co-pilot? Did you also see the Benjamin Netanyahu said he believes or there was talk that they think maybe he used the axe that's in the cockpit. Again, a safety measure in place in case someone storms you've got a weapon, you've got something so to think that he may have used that very weapon in the cockpit that was meant for their protection against the captain. I assume that I don't know the rule if pocket knives or something like that would be against policy for even a pilot to carry. We can't carry his passenger certain things. I wonder if those same rules apply that would make sense. This axe is
a, I guess considered almost like a firefighter type tool that they use that needs to be in there actually. But rules nobody thought it'd be used for this. Not not. But you know what, when you have something like this happen, you learn and you adjust. But according to Israel, the attacking co-pilot is from Oman. He is an Omani national and they have not released his name yet. Not sure why, but they have not released his identity. But we do know he's only worked at the airline for eight months. But to think that was he there lying and waiting for his opportunity to fly over Israel, was he waiting for this plane on this moment? Was he working as a terrorist with an organization? Was he working on his own? We don't know any of those answers right now. Was he recruited after he was already with the airline already a pilot? It takes a long time to become an airline
pilot. So our commercial airline pilot. Hard to think he's been training for this type thing from the beginning. So it would seem he only fell into this mindset that he wanted to do so. Look, he could have had a mental break for all we know, right? But that's the wrong plane and the wrong passenger is going the wrong direction to just have a mental break. Exactly. There's a lot of things that seem a little bit too convenient to just be coincidence or just to be his own personal struggles. Right now he is detained. He's being questioned by the Saudis, but reportedly he is going to be transferred over to the United Arab Emirates where they are going to take over the investigation because the Attorney General of there has started the formal investigation into whether or not this was in fact a terrorist attack. But fly Dubai has suspended all flights going to and from Israel understandably at this point. Look, the Israelis have a national election coming up next month. Interestingly, Benjamin Netanyahu
had just warned that there were unspecified escalating security threats to Israel and Israelis, but he did make this clear there was no specific threat about something like this occurring. This took everyone by surprise. Groves it. I mean, we've been, I mean, have we had, it was 9-11. They infiltrated those cockpits. You can't do that anymore. This guy was in the cockpit. He had access. He had been given the keys to this plane. How was this missed? That is frightening and I wonder now after this, regardless if this was a lone wolf thing or a part of a larger terror attack, what type of scrutiny airline pilots now need to be under. I mean, seriously, this is a concern. I don't know. I'm sure we've assumed and we have successfully safeguarded against this up until now, but now that we know this is an opportunity or even in a week, link, how do you vet? How do you know?
You put a third person in there always to make sure one person could never overtake. I don't know. I don't know what the hell you do. Groves, even now it's, and if you flown, you see this happen. When you want to use the bathroom, you have to wait and you get turned away by the flight attendance in the front because they have that cart blocking everything. That's an extra safety measure because the pilots need to use the damn bathroom, right? And they don't ever open or unlock the cockpit door until they put as many barriers in place as possible. That's just an extra safety measure. Groves, that's how much we are safeguarding people getting in due. The cockpit, what are we doing if we're placing them in there? I don't know. I don't know how. Oh my god. I'll be honest, I never was thinking about the fact that our airline pilot at any given point could actually have a moment. Yes, but that is why you have a co-pilot, but I'm with you. I would be all for a third pilot. Fine, the ticket of my airline ticket just went up a little bit. I'm
okay with that. It's two to one in there. Roves, this is a fascinating story. This is going to be a part of probably history, Roves, aviation history and maybe even global security history because we are, if this in fact is a guy that made it through all of those checks and was given the okay to fly a plane from Dubai to Israel. Okay, we need an answer to that one. Yes, and so yes, the investigation continues. We will be looking for more answers as soon as we get any details. Of course, we'll pass them along to you, but we always appreciate you listening to us. Everyone, I'm Amy Robock. Alongside TJ Holmes, we'll talk soon. Hey, TJ, I have something that might get your attention. Well, just saying that, obviously, you got my attention. All right, Hero Bread has a new collab,
