Hello, welcome into yes, allowed allowed bam to start the show. Welcome into a new episode of Heat of the Moment of Breaking News. It's the first of its kind emergency episode. Bam out of bio has scored the second most points in an NBA game ever ever ever. 83 points more than anyone other than Will Chamberlain in the sixties when he scored a hundred. This is as you could tell fast and loose. We had a whole show. We were going to do in two days about how well the matter of a matter is heat to the finals, baby. They're not going to take us there. We're not talking about anything other than bam's amazing night. Lino, I want to start with just the stat line, right? Yeah. I think that's a good place to start. And then I then I want to talk about our emotions as this night unfolded. So bam out of bio finishes with 83 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, two blocks,

20 of 43 from the field, 36 of 43 from the free throw line. Oh, sports teams are going to go crazy with that is a 60 plus percent true shooting. Here's some of the records we broke today. 36 made free throws, most in NBA history, 43 free throws, most in NBA history, 22 three point attempts tied for the third most in NBA history. And of course 83 points, the second most points ever scored in NBA history. And I think that's the place to start because when this night started, so we get this first quarter, bam has 30. The world is suddenly endless with possibilities, right? Now in my mind, I have all my friends are text to me, everybody's getting the alert, bam, 30 in the first quarter, that's crazy to feel the swell of intrigue and interest in this game as his scoring total

win up was unbelievable. So he gets 30 something. Oh, his career high is 41. He gets that in the second quarter. So my okay, well, 50 would be cool. Like we're going to blow out the wizards. I'm sure he won't play the fourth. And then the second most important person of this night, other than Anthony Gill, I guess, for getting worked is Eric Spolstra, who allowed bam to play over 40 minutes played almost the entire second half and allowed him to reach this record. So still a ton to get into. But Lino, just first blush, emotions, how are you feeling? Well, it's funny. I had pretty much an opposite experience to you because I had a very busy night tonight. I was at a class of the gym. I had four miles that I procrastinated on. I was like, I'm just going to run it. I'm going to try watch the game of the treadmill where I can. But sometimes the signal doesn't work. And there's not really a place for me to put my phone and my neck starts to hurt. So I'm kind of in and out of the game. So I get out of class and I see a text message from Mike that says, bam has 30. And I said, bam has what? 30 points. That's nuts. So I'm like, oh, that's exciting. But like you, you know,

everybody's getting super excited. But in my head, I'm like, okay, we're up on the wizards. Bam might play 15 minutes this game. I suppose just not necessarily always going to be super concerned about these kind of things. And so I tune in. I watch the second quarter. Bam still gets another like, I think he gets like 13 or 14 points in the second. He ends up with like 40, 42 by the end of the half. And I was like, okay, okay, wow, this is something like he's, you know, broken record, most points in a half since ever for the Miami Heat and breaking the bronze record against, I think the Charlotte Hornets or Bobcats, whoever they were at that point in time. And so I was like, wow, what a great first half. But then half time heads and I switched to an audio book. And I'm in like the last two miles of this run. And I just kind of zone out for the next like 30 minutes and just kind of completely miss the third quarter. And then I get a text that bam has like 70 points going into the fourth quarter. And I'm like, what? First of all, is the game still going

second of all? What is happening right now? And so I go, I watch the fourth quarter. I'm like, oh my gosh, he's going to do it. And it's just absolute mayhem. I mean, we're talking double teams, triple teams. We are fouling with three minutes to go just to get extra possessions. Like everybody's lost all sense of shame. It's incredible. And everybody's completely bought in Spowe, Riley, the whole roster. Everybody's like, we are getting bam the ball and we are not letting them run the clock out on us before bam can set these records. And it worked and it happened. And it looked like it might not because they were literally at a certain point sending three people to him and then fouling anybody else that touched the ball for like the last two minutes. And so they were very adamant about not letting this happen, which I, you know, give them respect for despite it being very annoying. And he did it anyways. And man, it was just so emotional. And what a journey. Yeah, it was, it was so interesting. So for a lot of the game,

I felt like the Wizards were like very willing participants in this BAM exhibition. Like, as we alluded to 43 free throw attempts, a lot of those were in the first half. And they just could not guard him. He was a tearing up Alex R, Alex R is in foul trouble almost immediately. But they were not sending doubles. You know, we saw that Memphis game earlier in the season, they doubled them every time. And that again, Tyler was out, Norm was out, where was out. Like, it would have made a lot of sense double them. They really didn't. They kind of just let him go, which again, like, and we could talk about BAM as a, like, player, like how kind of hilarious it is that he's the guy that broke Kobe's record. But they were just given him single coverage. And I think it really didn't click for the Wizards until probably the fourth quarter that, oh, we're about to be Kobe's Toronto Raptors. We're about to be Jalen Rose. This is going to be what we're most known for. Then they started triple team in them, Bala Kua Bali, like wanted to guard them specifically. And shout out to Cass, shout out to Drew, shout out to Fontechio,

the whole roster understood the assignment. Drew Smith had some clutch steals to get BAM breakaway dunks. Oh, man. Oh, it was electric because I was getting nervous. I was like, oh, we're trying hard. We can't seem to get them to ball. Like, they've got this double team set up. It's over. And Drew just made so many things happen, which is funny because when I went back and watched the third quarter, I was getting a note. I was like, why is everybody shooting the ball so much? Give them all the pain of shooting. And then they made it happen anyways. Yeah, I thought it was the perfect amount of suspense, too, because in the third quarter, the heat were up 20 plus at different points. And I said, okay, he's only got the third. Suppose not going to put him in in the fourth, which of course, I didn't come true. But so that puts so much pressure on the franchise record in the third, which he was able to get. That was honestly him getting the franchise record was my biggest moment of like excitement. Like I was jumping up and down when Drew got that steel and bam secured it. When he started the fourth, then I entered a street. I was like,

I was like, what are we doing? What's happening exactly? Like he gets it in his face, though. You can see it in exposed space. I was like, where are you fucking doing this? I haven't exposed this happy literally since we won a championship. Yeah. And so like, bam starts the fourth. And again, you just keep talking to yourself and you're like, oh man, so 70 would be cool. Wow, he got 70 pretty quick. I mean, I guess Kobe's kind of there. And then it just kept building and building. And yes, there was some hilarity towards the end of the game. So the heat start fouling the wizards who are in the ballroom. Make sure. Make sure, bam, gets another possession. Well, then the wizards counter in a very ingenious way and start fouling other heat players other than bam said. You guys might set the record for most points, scoring the game on us, but bam is not setting this record. And luckily, I had thought of this. Just now, but the NBA changed it because of the like the hack a shack kind of rules. It wasn't foreshack. It was more recent. But you can't do it away from the ball foul under two minutes, or the team just gets the ball back.

So it's not like they could just grab Kishat Johnson, even if bam had the ball. So as long as we hit the ball into bam, he could do it. And they were able to get enough steel semi-transition breaks, where he was able to get out, get fouled, attempt again, over 40 free throws. That I mean, shout out to this officiating crew. God bless them. The 06 Wade whistle got dusted off tonight. And at the same time, at the same time, two bands credit, they could not guard him. Like they were fouling him. Like they could not help it. There were no like real crazy fouls or like it's not like even the fouls he generates are not fouls like moving away from the basket or behind you. And I need to sign up for my pickleball open play. But come to you live. But like they were legitimate fouls, the wizards are just terrible. And so that's just is what it is. Sometimes you're going to play a team that can't guard you. And all they can do is foul, especially late in the game. I was like, surely you guys would just stop fouling him,

right? And they really couldn't help themselves. No, they just kept doing it. And yeah, a lot of it was just they couldn't guard, Bam. And they weren't doubling. You know, and that's on Brian Keefe for the wizards, whoever you want to blame. But I'll be grateful to them for the rest of my life. So everything honestly. So Bill Simmons had a great tweet. I can't remember at what point he tweeted it, maybe a 60 or 70 points. What it was like, if you would have had a draft in the preseason of like guys that were going to score 70 this year, whatever the number was, he was like, Bam, wouldn't have been picked in the top 50. And Bam might not have been picked in the top however many players are there are currently in an active roster. Yeah, might be some jean league guys that they might expect to pop off. Yeah, look, Bam would even take this many shots. Yeah, it was unbelievable. You, I mean, his aggression in the first quarter obviously set the tone. 30 points in the first. Oh, also not to mention, we talked about all the league records he broke. He basically broke every Miami heat record tonight. Most points scored in a game. Obviously, 20 more than LeBron 61,

most points in a half, most points in a quarter, most points in consecutive halves. Like any, any stat you could think of honestly, it's I haven't seen this for sure. But it's probably the most field goal attempts ever taken in history. Obviously, it's the most free throw attempts and made because it was for everyone ever. So obviously it's for the heat as well. And it just is so perfect because Bam for his entire career has been so unselfish and everything came together tonight for him to have a moment of not selfishness but just fully accepting that he could dominate this situation and his teammates and this coaching staff knew it and they empowered him to put on what will be the greatest performance in heat history ever. And it's just, it's just a magical feeling. Yeah, I couldn't, I couldn't put in towards how this couldn't have happened to a better person for the Miami Heat franchise. Like this guy has done so much for us in every single facet of basketball and it's been night after night where he's asked to do one thing or another

or both. And it was just really cool to be able to see him do it in the flow of the game for the most part. Obviously, towards the back half, it was okay, we're all on board to try to make this happen. The game's already over. We're up 20 against the Wizards who are terrible. We might as well have something to play for. But even before that, like that first 30 that he had in the first quarter, he's given Alex R, the guy who if he was, you know, not injured for some of the season could be in a lot of conversations as far as first female defense. If he's player of the year, he's like averaging two blocks of game still. Like that's not a guy you can just put up 30 on and he given night in a quarter, let alone a game, let alone a quarter. And it is just awesome to see that that paid off and then that everybody was just on board with celebrating every time he cut to his mom after a game, killing me, killing me. In him embracing with Asia and his mother after the game, you can see everyone is emotional. And it just, I was saying that to my wife who was watching

with me, this I and I mean, obviously I'm in the moment. I think this is the literally best thing that could happen. Most exciting thing could happen for a team in the regular season. Obviously, it doesn't supersede a championship, whatever, all you could argue, fewer of these in the our championships. But we'll get that later. But it truly like, there's just, I mean, this regular season game in March against the Wizards turned into the most. Oh, he better take care of business to the whole heat PR team is is pointing out all these different interviews that bring his family down from the crowd. Like it just turned into what felt like a championship celebration. And to me, the closest thing you can get to that in a regular season is to break one of the most hallowed records in the entire history of the league. It's literally Will Chamberlain for what will have to be maybe another decade, maybe more. Like it'll be Will Chamberlain. It's going to be bam out of bio, heat legend, two time Olympian. This guy has done something. No, there's been

thousands of basketball players, thousands, only one other guy got that close and it was Kobe Bryant. Right now, the closest guy is bam out of bio. It's just there are no words for how incredible achievement is unbelievable. And people, I mean, we're going to stay positive for the most part. People try and invalidate this in different ways, right? There are three free throws is sick. It's nasty. I'm happy about it. Yeah, but there's, there's, there's some, how shall we call it? Unethical hoops happening in all these games, right? Like when Booker had 70 against Boston, Will Chamberlain, the other team was trying to score quickly so he could keep scoring. They were letting the other team scores a will could keep scoring. Kobe took, I think like 18 of his team's final 19 shots on the fourth quarter. Like all these things like, I'm sure Kobe stands, all these people might have problems with how this goes. But to me, this is just a purely joyous moment for a guy that just is the most unselfish player ever. And it's just cool that he has what

you could look at is like the most selfish scoring record. So it's like, it's not like the Wizards wanted him to put up 83 points. They were trying every single thing you can do, besides both five people on him, like, at some point, everyone, everyone on him, everyone at league has had the chance to play the Wizards at least twice this year. Okay. So, and no one scored 60. I think the going into tonight, like 56 or something was the most point scored. I think that you get to score 56 or something like that. Maybe, maybe like 57. But yeah, you can say like, oh, the three pointers. Oh, the pace, the defense. Da, da, da, da, no one's gotten 70. Okay. This, this is special. You can't unspecial this. You still have to make 20 shots, seven threes and six free throws. Like you saw to fit that into a game. Like it's not something you can just jerrymander into happening. Like, yes, this is going to be insane. And yeah, I don't care what Stephen A Smith will have to say in the morning. Right. Also bear missed seven free throws.

So if he makes all those, he has 90. At the end, speaking of miss free throws, when he was taking those last like six, I was like, under no circumstances, do I have the mental fortitude to make a free throw under these conditions? Oh my god. Especially the 81st point. I was like, I don't know. It's insane that he made that. Like that's so crazy. Speaking of free throws, we should have mentioned this earlier when things got wonky. Keshad Johnson intentionally missing his free throw. So did try and get ready almost did. He should have got a foul there. If you got fouled, shout out to Keshad again, just another example of everybody on the team loves BAM so much. They all wanted this for him. I love the post game interview with Kelly Soko, the whole team. Let's BAM get set up. She gets to how would you describe in just 27 water bottles, skinned birch on BAM like a tidal wave. And it's just it's just the most joyous, beautiful

thing for a guy that just could not deserve it more. And that's I think that's the main takeaway for tonight is this is just such a great celebration of BAM and just the amazing person and player that he is. Yeah. I don't know, man. That's that's quite the high to get to you at this stage of the season. Like we have a lot to play for right now. And it doesn't feel like it matters at all. My mind. Like I'm just like dude BAM just score 80 three points. What else could matter right now? But I'm super excited for him. It was a great night. I wish I could have just watched the whole game in like live real time. I've watched every quarter at this point all in just different ways. And so it's been very bizarre. And it's going to feel very bizarre. And honestly, it doesn't even feel real. It really doesn't. Also, I'm we're this is all happening lab. I watch sposed post game press conference. I haven't gotten to watch BAMs. I just

saw Asia's doing it with him, which is incredible. That's amazing. I can't wait to watch that. The other fun things that this does for BAM is he's someone that his greatness is not loud in the traditional sense. We talk about this a lot with his defense. It doesn't always result in blocks and steals. It is more like a shutdown corner where it is the absence of something happening that really defines how impactful he is. And sometimes that can be on both sides of the ball. It could be a screen that gets a player open or whatever. So to have such a loud monumental record now on his career ledger, I feel like is honestly really important. I think BAM was trending to be a Hall of Famer. This very much helps that case. BAM was on the borderline of making all in B.A. this year. I think this very much helps his case. He went from averaging. Now mind you, we're over 65 games until the season. He went from averaging 18.9 points going into

this game up to 20 now. He went up over a point just off one game for a 65 plus game average. Imagine if he does it on Thursday. Yeah. It's funny because yes, like you could say like, oh, is there going to be a letdown against Milwaukee? Is this going to, are they going to not get out of the play and race? Ladies and gentlemen, the most important thing that will happen to the heat this season just happened and enjoy this. Okay. I don't have a shit of the bucks put up 75,000 points on us on Thursday. It do not matter. Enjoy. They should rest BAM. They should just let him chill. Like, you know, it there's just nothing more important will happen. I don't mean that to demean the scene. They've been playing really well lately. And I can see them being a tough out in the playoffs. But other than a championship again, I just, there's, I mean, maybe you could, I guess argue a conference championship. But there's just nothing more meaningful than breaking one of

the craziest records and NBA history. That's true. I can't lie. Except the fact that we have a guy who scored 18.3 points on our team now that should mean that that should set the bar at like the finals, right? Just like to be that guy makes you a completely different player than what we've seen BAM to be like, it's it messes with how basketball works when a guy who is so unselfish like BAM when a guy who's so about playing winning basketball and rarely does shooting 43 point or 43 shots equate to playing winning basketball. But when it does and when you set a record like this, that makes you an all-time basketball player. And when you have an all-time basketball player on your team, that that shifts the goalpost a little bit. Like, hey, if you could score 80, if you do half of that for me every once in a while, like we could do some real damage in the playoffs. So it's not about

that. It's about celebrating this moment. But in the big picture. Yeah. I mean, it speaks to BAM's development, right? You told me two years ago, this guy's taken over 23s in a game. I legitimately would have passed out. I was like, no shot. And I mean, I mean, obviously towards the end, he was chucking them up before they could make them pass it. But I mean, a lot of them were good looks in rhythm and he made a lot. The free throw shooting was elite. I know like people scoff at that. That's a skill. I mean, to go whatever, 36, 43, that's. And he's also exhausted his conditioning to play 40 plus minutes while you're getting double teamed. The majority of the game like you're 42 minutes. Unbelievable. And again, that's that's just all this pods going to be as I keep scrolling Twitter. I see a new thing that reminds me of another moment. And it's just it's just beautiful. Can we talk about Trevor Keel's negative two plus minus one minute and eight seconds he played. Maybe that's a good topic we can one another another feather and suppose cat. I mean,

I genuinely spoke and not have played any of this better. He made sure that BAM could get the record. I mean, he didn't make sure BAM got obviously BAM did it. But once he got the record, he made sure to sub him out before the game ended. So the whole crowd could give BAM that moment. So he could take all that in. Also, but challenged a charge call that would it gets BAM when we were up like 25, which is sick behaviors. The rest came back so quickly. Which I was a little like, okay, are we protecting Kobe? What's happening here? Yeah, I saw a little bit of movement on that or on that charge rather. Yeah, it's hilarious. The like people can choose to be upset about how BAM got to 83 or you could just revel in it. Like it's it was a combination of incredible skill talent and hard work paying off in the moment. There's a combination of BAM putting up 30 on Alex R to start all of this. And then it is a nice mix of

pure chaos for the last two quarters of this game, especially in the fourth quarter. As the Wizards were doing everything in their power besides taking a baseball bat to BAM out of bio kneecaps to make sure that he doesn't do it. And we did it anyways because we were doing everything in our power like this is WWE level storylines in a night like random like I watched a lot of TikToks about the WWE still and they always flashbacked or they always talk about like how like a random Monday night Raw would just be the craziest episode you've ever seen. Like this is this is a WrestleMania. This isn't Royal Rumble. This is just a Tuesday. Like what's happening? Having something like this happen against the Wizards on a Tuesday night is just more than you could ever ask for in any given season. Let alone any given game. It's perfect. You say that and I'm about to have the LeBron James line about a story he made up retroactively moment. But today I had just I was busy like you like I was having a rush to like

go the 10 to my sister's coffee shop really quickly because she was out of town and then I wanted to exercise. I had to go play pickup and then run back to the house and time to watch the game. And I was in my car doing all this and I was like man like there's nothing else I would do this for but that is the magic of the NBA. It's just any night something could happen. And in my mind I'm thinking somebody goes for 40. There's a fight. There's something crazy. But again in a universe of infinite possibilities there was that chance that a truly record-breaking performance is literally something I'll remember for the rest of my life. Like I didn't watch Kobe's game live. Like I wasn't like watching bad Lakers teams like that. And so just for the rest of my life. You know I mean this record could get broken. You know there could be like Con Caniple might hit 23s one day or something but it'll be up there forever as we see it's very hard to do this and it it's just a magical thing that I'll get to live with that for the rest of my life.

Oh yeah I'm very very thankful. This game was got had to be like the eighth game on league pass if you were to like pull up a list of games happening right now. Like it's just man there's so many ways that this is such like a special gem of a moment. And it's hard to even list them all. And it's like what do we do? Like we had a whole show playing for tomorrow and maybe we still talk about that stuff but I feel like it's brave. I'll be like we'll be talking about that and it'll be like yeah you know Pebble Arsons looking good like we got a really strong chance to make the fifth seed. You remember when Bams scored 83 points? Again it is the most significant thing that happened this season certainly that's happened since they made the finals. I mean it just it's uh it's crazy. I just and it's also as a Bams stand it is such

a nice ace in the hole for conversations. What would you say Evan Mobley? Yeah what's his career high? What'd you say Michael Jordan? What's his career high? Just curious. It just occurred to me just you could just you can do it however you want to. Two other things that come to mind. The first thing was when I went back and watched the first quarter. Alex Sartre was also starting off really hot. Like he got to like a let they were both at 11 points in the first quarter at the same time and it just reminding me of there's these also these videos on Tik Tok where people do dubs over Jiu Jitsu Kaisen and Gojo Satsur is like his technique is called band for band where people just want to go band from band. You want to go band for band and it felt like Bams was like wait you trying to go bucket for bucket right now and just took it to a whole new level once he saw what Sartre was you know considering himself as being

competitive with Bams and the other thing was that Bams plans him amazing defense like yes nobody else I mean well it was a great defender for his time because he was a a giant among men Kobe was not playing defense in that 81 point game. People Devin Booker was not playing defense when he scored 70. Lucas never played defense in the 20 point game let alone the 60 point game that he had like Bams was out there actually logging people up he had two blocks two steals was people still couldn't just go try to score on him and he was playing 42 minutes like another another great adjustment by Spowe going to zone in the fourth so Bams could get some rest they just stand on the back line they just again it we this is something that's truly special truly unique and a million things have to go right in the universe and obviously the heat didn't come into this game with this game plan it almost makes it more impressive that everybody in the moment was like okay this is a chance for something historic

let's all get on the same page and again the other guys had to make shots Fontechio I think had 18 like guys had to hit timely threes there's a run where the wizards at the start of the fourth I think we're within 12 and I was like oh my god you can't lose this game and they were just able to keep it going and and just again it's just a perfect storm of just the most beautiful performance in the history it's true it's true and yeah it was a mix bag because there were parts like late in the third and in the fourth quarter where other guys were taking shots and making it like Davie on Mitchell was kind of hooping tonight he only had 12 but it was like a really efficient 12 and I was like you're kind of hooping but I wish you'd stop shooting the ball so much by the same time it was like Bams was able to only get rest in possessions where he didn't have the ball and so I was like I know he kind of needs this so one the wizards play honest and have to still defend everybody else but two so that Bams doesn't burn out before he gets to the end of this game um and so yeah I don't know I could just keep going in circles all day about this but

I kind of what were do you think what it's like the percentage chance that Bams gets to statue that's honestly a really good question I could see Bams doing it I you know obviously I think a championship would have to come but I could see that because I think Bams a lifer so ideally the championship will come when he's the second or third best player but I could also see him being like the Alonzo morning of that O-16 where he's kind of a vet but to me he he'll finish his career as like an upgraded version of UD right and we shall UD get his jersey retired Bams will certainly have that happen yeah but I think I think he'll elevate past that to a statue if if anybody I mean other than I think Spowe Riley and Dwayne are kind of the three pillars of Miami Heat history and and Bama is pushing into that and I can't from it's just like tonight you can you know make jokes about it all you want this is historic this will be the very first thing on his Hall of Fame resume is an 83 point game yeah uh I think he's I think it's in the back like

I even if he didn't win a championship I think he is accolades just get longer and longer he's still got a ton of career ahead of him Lord willing and yeah I just feel like a two-time Olympian well and second place and and this and statues are franchise specific and as we saw he just hit 10,000 points he's already second and points he will I genuinely believe he'll be first and second and pretty much every major stat and he history yeah he's he won eclipse Dwayne and every scoring stat but he I think will be first or second and everything yeah and so with that I was like that that's got to be statue worthy because if that's not statue worthy then it's like what what really can't be like this is a guy who's committed his life and his greatest achievements to the franchise and man I love him for it I'm super excited for him I hope you can really just revel in it I know there the season just moves on so fast but it'll be hard not to just bring this up every few
