This is Cory, keeping you informed on what's happening worldwide, worldwide, we're listening to global news today. Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in 2021, they have imposed harsh restrictions on women and girls, stripping away basic freedoms. To mark International Women's Day, an anonymous human rights defender shared her close call with the group's morality police in Herat Province. These enforcers, called Muthazai bin and dressed in white coats, patrol crossroads and stop vehicles to check for proper coverings like Burkas or Shaderis. Last week, the woman feared arrest while heading to a funeral, as recent crackdowns have led to women being pulled from cars for improper hijabs. She and her husband panicked, using a large scarf to disguise her until they pass safely. Similar incidents include beatings of husbands and arrest of women in crowded areas, turning daily travel into a source of terror. Meanwhile, new rules ban rickshaws for supposed overcrowding and instruct taxi drivers to

refuse uncovered women, forcing many to walk long distances. Or pay exorbitant fares. This makes simple tasks, like grocery shopping, exhausting or deals. Despite the oppression, some women resist quietly by caring Burkas, but wearing them only at checkpoints. As global attention shifts elsewhere, Afghan women call for the world not to forget their ongoing struggle. This episode is proudly sponsored by our partner, some chase peace.
