And welcome back to the A team here on the Jackrabid Illustrated podcast. Another absolute victory Sunday for us here. Chad and I were just talking pre-show. The Jacks one, the Brewers one, the US men's national team one. And for us today we get a victory Monday, Chad and I do because the Packers one and the Brewers one again. So we are happy, happy, happy here. I said Wisconsin one too. So the Badgers. Did you say that again? I did. Yes, yeah. Sorry. Yep. So, sure Dallas is happy about that. I could mention it in the group chat. He liked the comments. So yeah, so everything, everything is good here. Before we get too deep into this, I just want to take our, thank our sponsors, the
Kubota dealers of South Dakota. Again, I had to mo, I've mowed my yard now in more in September and October here than I did in August. So I don't know what that says right now about our moisture patterns, but whatever. Here. Yeah. Anyways, I have some work to do. I had a wheel come off on my Moordeck. I know. Oh, really? Yeah. So actually, yeah. One of the ones that I'd lures. Yeah, the idlers. Yeah. So I got to get that. And I know I can get that taken care of no problem. I'm going to call the part shop at Eastside, Infument there in Watertown. Tell them what I have. And they're going to get that part shipped out to me here in just a few days. So that if I do have to mow my yard again, it's going to be nice and even and flat and it's going to be great. So. I'm going to have to try and make sure mine are tight. Yeah. I have not done that this summer. So my bad. Ben's kids buddies are in the in the comments. Hey, buddy.
Where's my go? Not in show. This is not a show. Sorry. Come to the wrong place. You want to see him. It will not be tonight. Good old. Then. Gosh. This is funny. Did you not watch the beat. You watch the beat. I did. Yes, I did. I did. But it's just funny that I mean they were shouting out all the dollar happens people. Yeah. Anyways, Kubota dealers of South Dakota. We always say this, but if you need to get something that's going to work for your acreage, farm, ranch, business yard, if you have a smaller yard, whatever it is, Kubota dealers of South Dakota are going to be able to hook you up with what you need. And as Chad always says, the parts in service. And that's what I'm going to be taking care of this week is the parts in service. So thank you, Kubota, for your continued sponsorship. All right. Next up, Hadrick Ranch with big news. Hot off the press. I'm not sure if you've seen this yet. Is it actually happening? There was rumor. I don't know. It is a rumor. I didn't click into the story. But it has a story.
It's a story. Okay. Like I think it's KELOLAND has a story out right now that Hadrick Ranch. And we'll be opening a storefront in Sioux Falls to sell beef directly to customers, which is just outstanding news. And hopefully that's true. I should have read the story before and out sniped. But I did get really excited. Because again, it had a thousand likes and comments on the Facebook story that I saw. So very cool for Hadrick happy for them. Check Troys Twitter. Chad, if it's if you can't find it. So I'm working on KELOLAND right now. Adam, when I type, when I type in Hadrick Ranch on my computer, just in me, I automatically goes to www.hadrickranch.com or you do your own bundles. Adam harms Troys shared the story. So I'd say it's a big deal. I think Troys been hacked. Because Troys also says, wait, what? That's awesome. So this is very cool. Excited about this for all of my friends and Sioux Falls. Good stuff here. So if you would like in the meantime before this all happens,
to get your beef, some of the best beef in the world, Hadrickranch.com, you can get the shop the different bundles and build something that works for you. So thank you Hadrick Ranch for your continued support. Thanks, Troys. All right. Let's get to your dorm. Mr. Dorman, we'll get to your comment. Don't worry. We see it. We'll get to it. Yeah, let's get to the game. Yeah. Where do you watch it from? I watched it from my coach. So that was kind of nice. I watched it from my coach. So that was kind of nice. I watched it from my coach with my family. I made wings. I made some homemade wings. Sam inspired me. On the blackstone. It was great. So she doesn't really good job with like the prep. Like so like you can either wings without any. Any sauce on them. They're amazing. And I know both you and your wife commented to us or about how good they were. So I knew you guys liked them. And it's pretty simple. We ended up going to a lot of things. And it was pretty simple. We ended up going to. She's like, Hey, you know, a few days ago, we're going to go downtown with our friends.
She has a friend that used to play percussion in the pride. And we're going to hang out with him for her birthday. And like it wasn't until, you know, Saturday that had dawn on us. Or Friday. Actually, I think it was that that meant I maybe couldn't watch the game. Because like we're hanging out with some people. But it turned out it ended up being we watched the game on her phone. Because she had it out before we even showed up. And by the end of the game, we're watching on four phones. Uh, the same. At total, or you totally rad pizza downtown. So I guess they get a little. Yeah, they go. Jeremy's watching out in Maryland. Remade of my. Nice. Hey, Pat, were you at the game? Sounds like you were from your comment. Pat says nice crout of jacks fans in the stand Saturday. Many I see fans brought it up on how well we traveled. Great game. You know, we recruit Illinois and Eastern Illinois in Eastern Iowa. And that South. East corner of Wisconsin. Pretty hard.
So those are all fairly drivable. I did see an Instagram. A couple of our recruits from the St. Louis area from the 2027 class. We're actually there. Rock and Jack. But here. So that's pretty cool. That they went to an away game. Uh, in normal. So good for them. So I got a question because it bothered me. So we started watching it on my. My friend slash wife's friends phone. And I was like, maybe she's just got a discount phone. Like, it's like the colors off. It's like pink. And the question is for Pat witty. Did all the shadows and everything there have a red pinch to him too? Because it. It looked like all the shadows and stuff were like a pink red. So I don't know if they have red lights up as well as their normal white. But I don't know if anybody else noticed that on the on the broadcast. But everything had a weird weird pink hue. And I had it today when I went back and rewatched it. And it was on my phone too. So like it wasn't a phone. It was kind of strange. I.
Anyway. Interesting. But that's it. I can't say what's there. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, go back and look at any of the screenshots. They're like. Oh, he was saying it was Jim saying it was the one camera. But yeah, I mean, like the graphics and stuff are white. But the. Yeah. It must have been a bad connection on the SPN speaking of which. How lucky are we to have the crew we have calling our games? Because that was horrendous. I didn't think it was that bad. Really? Dude, how many times do you have to see here your co-host called the guy's name right to still get it wrong? I know that's true. And that. And that guy started out the game with an absolute banger. Not that I could do that job. I'm not saying that. But like he's like, oh, hey, he played that like he's a coach's son. Oh, wait, he has a coach's son. I'm like, holy cow, dude. Just put a bullet in my head now. Yeah. It was so terrible. Yeah. Okay.
Fair enough. So Clay Harbor. Do you remember him when he played at Missouri State? He was a good tight end. Yeah, he was a good tight end. Obviously, he's made the color. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He, it's so interesting. You went from Missouri State to Illinois State to be their color guy. He's been doing that for years for them since he got done with the Eagles. So yeah, I don't know. Um, I don't, I can be the fan girl. I don't like. Really? Girl. In the chat. I've read it as fan girl the first time to. I'm, I'm sitting in line getting pizza right before this happened. And I'm talking to this guy whose kid is holding some diapers. He's a little baby, but she's being real good and we're talking about that. I get out to my motorcycle and he comes back out and he's like, he do I know you? And I'm like, I don't think I've ever met you. He's like, your voices for my own. Oh, yeah. You're wearing an SDSU shirt. So you probably do know me. And he's like, you're one of the J.I. guys. I'm like, oh my gosh. I wish we could do polls in here.
Cause I'd like to see who liked the banana pants. I did. I liked it. So. Let's, let's look into that. I know there's a way to do life polls. We could just put a link in the chat. In for future. That'd be fun. Look at it. Just like a third, a third party website. Yeah. Okay. So this game. Chad, I just agreed on this. We were just talking a little bit pre show. And Chad said he was kind of frustrated for this game for the first three quarters. And I kind of, I disagreed. I, I just saw this is what we did in a, you know, a handful of years ago with Isaiah with Pierre. It's constant body blow, body blow, body blow. And then that knockout punch is coming at some point. I thought our defense was solid. Our special teams was there. I figured it was just a matter of time before Josiah or bassinger or Cory Blair. I think that's what we were talking about.
We were thinking about it. Broke off one of those long runs, and just I did it right before half time. I don't know. I feel good about it. I, like I wrote in Ransen Raves. I thought this game was never in doubt. It just felt like we were, we were there. I get some of your frustrations, Chad. I don't know if you're still searching or if you want to talk about maybe why, or why you were frustrated, I guess. I mean, we didn't play particularly clean. We had some really good things at any given time, and baffling stuff, getting penalties at bad points. You know, we got zero points off of two of our turnovers. One, we turned right back over, which was just frustrating as all hell. You know, that's what it was. I mean, I don't think we played bad, but I wouldn't say we played particularly great. I mean, I think there is still just a ton of room for improvement on these. Did you just vote? Or did somebody else vote? I don't think so, someone else must have. All right. I don't know. I've just the first time ever put in. Yes, and like Ryan Effing says,
effling, sorry, the penalties were atrocious. They were. Yeah. And some of them were bad, like calls, I think, too. Like I'm not so sure that we had that pass interference in the end zone that looked kind of light. Cue's penalty, you could talk more about that if you want, but I thought it was light before you said anything to me about it. We can't have those things. And I'm really curious, I said before the game, or before this show that I'm really curious what Dan said, because everybody was smirking on the sidelines. Like they thought it, I feel like he said something that was true in maybe the manner in which it was delivered was not appreciated by the reps. Right. But they didn't like to hear it. So it might have been with regards to that that pass interference to be completely honest. We had a holding penalty on
who's the dude that blocks the well? Number 80, I'm not was that me turn, exact. Yeah, Ben Meadard. He wasn't even on the screen. I had to look like three times. I was like, there's no 80 on the field. Where was he? On the sideline. He was away from the play on the far end. Oh my gosh. Oh, it was, yeah. Yeah, they call it holding on him. And that was like, oh my gosh. So yeah, one three one. Is that, was that how I think, oh, I guess if you respond in the comments, that all the pull works. Okay. The idea. Cool. I love it. Look at this finding new stuff today. Yeah, I mean, this is a new option as of I think middle of the season last year. We just haven't ever used it. So yeah. So the knee camp, let's talk about tie a little bit. So I talked up tie quite a bit in the opponent preview. And I came away in this one, not impressed. I think Dexter's a better player right now. Tie to me looked old and slow.
Like he's played a ton of snaps. I don't know if he's hurt or dealing with something right now. But he did not look like what I remember, tie camp. Tie knee camp looking like. I thought six or five hogs for the most part held him in check for the whole night, really. Yeah, I mean, he kind of looked like me when I was a freshman start and wrestling. He was on his back a lot. Yeah, right. That was a PC version just for the record. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Big shout out. Yeah, a Brayden Delohoid. That block on basing your those two blocks that he had on basing his run. And credit any effort man alive. Little credit to Sean with the hacks for being the first point that out like I didn't notice it either. But clearly that was a difference in an excellent play and a touchdown in my opinion. So and it stiff arms, both of them on there. Ooh, those were dirty and I loved it. Yeah, that was good. And that what there was that Dexter that he got right on his way
right into the end. Yeah, that was Dexter. Yeah, that was Dexter right on the way. And Dexter caught, caught him from behind on that fit on Josiah on that 56 yard. And here comes a whole strangenome the field. And he blitzes across in front of him. And if he just run right behind him, no. They did one of these, Josiah kind of caught the other way. But if he just like caught with him and run behind him, he couldn't even tackle them. But I mean, I was surprised to see a hole. It's like, hole, hole was faster than Josiah on that play. I was like, where did this guy come from? That was kind of crazy. Yeah, there was a lot of crazy place. Yeah, I thought, again, the defensive line did not come away with any sacks, which I was surprised about. Yeah, but there was a lot of quality pressure. The pressure. I mean, there was not a lot of time to throw the ball. You know, as I blew a tire. He lost a shoe.
That's a, that's how I understand that. Okay, geez, I didn't see that. But no, defensive line. I just liked how we, I know he's not gauge Roy or whatever is in a huge running threat. But I mean, we had that pocket collapsed in his lap all night and that's a really good offensive line for the most part of very veteran offensive line and held in check. So I was surprised to see the sacks comments that got posted this morning. You know, Dylan Lord being injured, right? I don't know. I think he just had an off game. He didn't look very good, but it might have been, maybe that's why he was slow. I mean, he had seen this fast, right? He had a couple drops to, I mean, St. Juice though is so good at those smaller, shifty players. Like that's what he kind of specializes in. And I thought he played, St. Juice played a heck of a game. You know, he ended up being my player of the game. That's before I knew that Lord Mayor
might not be hurt. I didn't, you know, no, but I mean, you can only, you can only do what you got to do to defend the ball on the guy you're playing. So whether he's hurt or not, he still played as well as he could. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I think Lord, I mean, we're kind of Lord fans. So to speak on this podcast, we're cheerleaders for him. He's a hell of a player. Yeah, it's Alex Cancela. It doesn't like him. Yeah. Yeah, so Dylan, if you're watching this, because I know you follow me on Twitter. I feel free to go after a AD Cancela on Twitter. Yeah. I agree with Chris here too. Chris Howard says the secondary keeps improving each game. I feel like that's true too. They're just stronger and stronger. And I think that's maybe not a talent thing as much as a confidence thing. Oh, yeah. Yeah. The, I mean, Paul Kim. So Paul Kim has been starting and playing great this last game. Just a blanket. I mean, and really, like, I don't think there's much for drop off.
So if it's Paul Kim, if it's Miles, if it's St. Juice, if it's Efe, like they all bring a little something different, even if a Maja is down closer to the line, you know, the challenge. Yeah, it was kind of bullcrap. Yeah. So I don't know. Those guys, like what a night and day difference from where we were at with our secondary this time last year, when it was like, holy crap, can anyone play cornerback force? Can anyone, you know, really tackle that safety? Jeepers, these guys are just playing so darn well right now. We'll talk about them a little bit later. At least I'll talk about them a little bit later for what Chad and I are doing for the second half of this episode. So yeah, there was so many great plays, even in the, even in the three, maybe you call them more lack of days, equal quarters. And yeah, there's some truth of the body, body, blow, body, blow, body blow, upper cut. And that was one of the smarter things they said on the whole
podcast. But you know, there's a lot of things we still need to work on. Like the running backs, we need a running back that will catch the ball, like catch them run. Guys, please, please. Yeah, please. So, you know, I think, I think it's a, I did call it out last night just saying, hey, we do need to get JR back, you know, back just to have someone that has some true receiving ability there. But going back and watching it, I mean, Holst does have to try to give him a better ball. That's part of it. Yeah. A Corey, Corey right now in the passing game, although I just say, I don't think he looked super confident either. We saw that week prior against East Illinois, you know, it was just an awkward way to catch the ball. How Holst threw it to him, how Corey caught it. I mean, it just was a little bit more of the same this week.
So I don't know if that's a chemistry thing between those two right now on those routes or a confidence thing. But I hope we get it figured out because Corey is in the open field to pretty elite. You know, I think junior is going to bring a really nice dimension to that when he gets back to though. So we'll see. Here are our defense. Our defense played the whole game great. I just want to preface with like the whole defensive effort was great, the whole game. But like as a as a team, it was the first three quarters that we struggled. Yeah, you know, but the defense was excellent the whole time, honestly. So yeah, that D line Pat would he D line we're rotating 10 to 12. Now I was just shocked when I turned on or realized on that goal line stand that Logan wasn't in their chase wasn't in their rip wasn't in their sitsman wasn't in their Kirschman wasn't in there. I mean, those are our those are our horses, right? And you look and see its Bergen Tetslop and Brett Schaefer and
Luke Crankett, Crumcheous. And I'm sure Blake life from and was in there. I didn't actually see him for sure. But just the amount of younger guys in there and second line guys that were doing that to again, a very good Illinois state offensive line. That blew me away. I thought that was awesome to see that again, the goal line stand that wouldn't end and that was almost the greatest goal line stands of all time. It was yeah. But didn't end didn't end to end with chase van tole pointing to the scoreboard. Pretty epic too. Like what a dummy scoreboard, buddy. You're not going to win. So whatever. Yeah, yeah, that's pretty funny. That was just one of the stupid bonehead dumb plays, you know, that I've seen. So I love watching Bergen Tetslop too. I mean, man, like there's the bad at ball that he had earlier too. Like it just absolute stuff to come to the camp.
I'm a tomboy style, you know, just bad at right back. So I love watching house. Yeah. I mean, it's just any six five to right. Then we haven't had a giant like that really like Kellen Kellen was last one, you know, Ryan Van Marl was pretty tall. Um, but Kellen, I mean, Kellen and now Bergen, like they built very similar. So I'm excited to see how he fills out, you know, just just think what is going to look like next fall after spring in a summer. Like, right. And he's already had such promises as a freshman like in a lot of ways. He's a head of Kellen. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. Um, Joe, why did they accept that holding call should have gone to fourth down? Yeah, I wondered about that too, but they didn't matter. I don't know. Yeah. Um, the quarterback almost did make it in didn't is what you did. Yeah, I didn't do. Yeah. Play right? Yeah, right. Jason is so almost stopped him.
Yeah. He's a good player that 15, that 15 though, like I, I am interested to see what they do with him in the future because both of the belt, Beckett or Palamur, whatever his name is and then, uh, gauge Roy graduate. So is he going to be their true quarterback next year? Are they going to let him throw or what's that going to look like? So because he was a load. He's a big guy. So we'll see. Tank far, you know, yeah, yeah. I mean, there's, there was a lot of, like you said, a lot of really good plays by the defense, the offense just seemed to be a little more, the first drive was good, right? The first drive we came out did real well. Um, when we got the, the first touchdown ride is what I mean. That's so, um, I thought, you know, if you're a fan of punting, you got to see two really good punters. That's your last time. That's very good as well. Yeah, like that was fun. Max, uh, seeing Max do his thing, uh, super talented. I mean, with those kicks inside the five, uh, and their punter at a couple
really nice ones too. So it's going to be interesting to see how it ends up going for MVFC punter of the, punter of the year. Of course, we're going with Max, but like, yeah, right. Yeah. The problem with Max is he just doesn't get enough opportunities, right? And his average is going to be low because we have a lot of like midfield punts like we don't have too many opportunities to boom them. So he's got more talent than he can even really show. He's been just an absolute beast. Yeah. Yeah. Um, we, let's talk about this because Alex did a post on Twitter, right? A month ago, no, about these corner kicks that we're doing on kickoff. And it's the juice worth the squeeze, right? And I am now on the, no, it's not. No, I've been on team. No, it's not welcome to the dark side. Just kick it out of the end zone. Come on. Yeah. Please. It's like an especially like I get wanting to play a game early in the game. I get it. Like get some momentum built up. The special teams getting a stuff at the 15 yard line.
That's huge, right? From momentum, your defense gets fired up and takes the field. But in the second half of a game like that, where you had previously allowed a 30 some yard return, I just don't get what the benefit is of trying to, to do it. You know, kick it out of the back then zone and and let it go. Let it go. Yeah, I agree. I mean, it's different than a punt, right? So yeah, yeah. All right. Should we do game balls? Right? Yeah, we can we hop over there. Who's there? Read for game balls here. DFS, right? DFS. Yeah. All right. DFS insurance. Nate Helen and Cole Langer speaking of big details. Yeah, Cole Langer. There we go. Cole Langer is in the Madison and Brookings shops and Nate Helen is down in Yankton and T. So Sioux Falls area for you there. If you need auto home, if you have employees, a business and you need some
insurance on them, these are the guys for you. DFS insurance can help you out with exactly what you need. And we'd love that customization for your specific needs. So if you are in the needs for some different insurance options, DFS insurance, Nate Helen and Cole Langer, thank you guys for your continued support. So yeah. Yeah. So game balls you had you had put your game balls on ransom raise. Do you want to go through those? Yeah. So Chad, you predicted basing her, right? And I predicted Josiah Johnson. I don't think you're wrong with what I'm going to stick with what I had, right? Like, yeah, I don't like having the same thing as you either one's not a wrong answer. Yep. Yep. So I ended up going with JJ just officially. I forgot that I had put him down. So I mean, just a phenomenal game. We've talked about it already. Yeah, absolutely. Both of them had great games, both of them make six or five hogs again, baby. And the tight ends.
And the tight ends. Yep. Yep. Yep. Hey, defense you went with Dante. I went with CVT, Chase Van Toll. Wait, Chad. Oh, Darren. All right. And I ended up officially giving it to Noah St. Juiced. Just talked about it. His interception was incredible. And just the blanket coverage he had on Lord. I thought he was terrific. I mean, if Lord was hurt, I guess, so be it. But Noah was right there with him and made life hell on him, I guess, throughout the game there. So yeah, and he said I had picked who you picked Dante, which he was leading. Yeah, he was all over the place. Excellent game. Excellent game. But I want to I want I'm going to pull this pull. That sounds weird. I'm going to pull this pull this down right now. Yeah, stop this pull. I'm going to have been clip that again. Yeah. Yeah. Don't do that. I don't know how to get off the screen, but okay. Anyway, I think any time a defensive or offence
of player ear holes someone so hard that in the middle of a rewatch, I go, Oh, which I did once in this game. Okay. You're going to get defensive player of the week for me. And that was Chase Van Toll. Brock Wood, they're tied in that tie down. Put him ass over tea, Kettle, he had him so hard. It was just text book. I was afraid they were going to throw a flag, but it was a really clean hit. Super clean. Yeah. Super clean. That's here. Okay. So another thing that's bothering me that we didn't talk about pre show, but we have started this standing over looking down at dudes after we after we hit them. Sometimes I'm not saying that play. I'm not calling that play out, but like we need to quit that. Like that's going to get us a flag one of these times. Just throwing that out there. Okay. I agree. I agree. We got to clean it up a little bit and over bringing the intensity, but we got to clean it up.
So we're going to get called like Chad said, and that's going to be kind of stupid at some point. So it might cost the game in a tight game. You never know. Yeah. Cody, good point. Cody, I am so glad to have Matt Holland back. Matt, Matt's our friend. And he's been phenomenal. Just the constant videos. I mean, shoot just today, they put out three, four, just different little, right. Yeah. You know, 30 second clips that are just great. So awesome. Score or special. Always the poem. Yeah, special teams with poem. And I would agree with that. I think that's the right call. It was it ended up being correct. I can't argue with that. Just no, Vano made that feel ago. Like he had been nervous there. Yeah, I was. But I know he said that and I was like, I was a nervous at all. But yeah, at least I would go ahead. I would say that that is positive.
I really like our coaching decision there. I was really glad we went and took some points and got extra points on the board. It gives you a little space coming back into half time. Although we did nothing with the ball when we got it back to my point of not necessarily having the great third quarter either. So, yeah, I really like that we got some points there at the points when they're available. We could have tried for more, but I like the three there. I think that was. And for that matter, you know, I've been critical of our offensive play calling at times. And I thought overall we called a pretty good game. I can't argue with the results. I maybe would have liked to see a little more running, but I'm not going to be overly critical. Like some people out there have been of of coach E on this game, especially. I think we're, you know, it takes time to figure out what your weapons are when they change a bit. And and I feel like he's, you know, kind of honing in on what what that needs to be with the current quarterback.
Yep. Yep. Score. You said 35, 21. I said 34, 17. And the actual was 31, 14. So I take another point on your chat. Yeah, I guess so sure. All right. I'll buy you another beer in Nashville. Yeah, there we go. Good. All right. So we do not have a game to preview this week. So we thought we'd take a look back here. But also a look ahead. So we're going to be doing just a little bit of awards and predictions, awards and predictions, but we're calling it. So I put together a list of awards that I sent to Chad. And we have no idea where we ended up on this. We haven't talked about it at all. We just have the list. So the first one. The MVP. So different categories right away. Here's our awards MVP defense of player of the year, offensive player of the year, special teams player of the year, new comer of the year and then freshman so far.
That's where we're at on those. We'll get into our predictions here in a little bit. I guess biggest surprise is one and biggest disappointment, but we'll get into that. So no big deal. There's people wanting to complain about the rafts. I think we all know how we felt. Let's just move on. Yeah, we want. Let's not be that team of fans of the team. Right. About the red thing when we won. Yeah, right. I mean, shoot, we just meant we went through that whole show and didn't talk about Loft and once. So Loft and he had a great catch to begin. Yeah, he had a lot of his career. Yeah, he kind of broke back out. Like, you know, we knew the talent was there, but he's been waiting to get his opportunities and he got some in this game and made the most of them. He looked real good. Yeah. All right. MPP Chad, do you want to go first or second on this? No, I'll go second. If you'd like to go first, unless you want to go second, I don't really care. Well, I'm going to piss Chad off from the start here. I went with the 6.05 hogs for the team of the team start the air.
You're right. That's not wrong. This group compared to last year and they don't want to hear it. I know they don't and they're going to say FU Matt, like whatever. This group has been so much better than last year. It's a night and day. And this is the standard, right? We talk about this being the standard, the true 6.05 hog moniker. This group has been awesome. They've protected the quarterback well. I think it's five sacks so far this season and 300 some yards of game rushing like my goodness. The PFN still has them as the highest rated offensive line in the FCS. It just makes sense to me. So 6.05 hogs are my MVP. I'll do you one better. Okay. Where would we be without a quality backup quarterback right now? Ooh. I don't know. Josh holes gets my MVP. Now it could have been Jack Henry, but he hasn't been the one giving most of the reps. So I'm not disparaging him in any way with this comment.
However, we needed a whole step up and be that next man up. And he's done nothing but everything that's been asked of him. You know, so for me, it's holster. The hogs are great. I can't really argue that, you know, they've obviously been making his life easier. JJ's life easier, basingers life easier, whoever has the ball. But, you know, without a quality. Without a quality quarterback, it's kind of hard to win a football game. All right. All right. It's fair enough. I'll let you go with defensive player, then start off with that. I'm going back to Dante, man. The guy's been all over. I, you know, I've escalated between this and virtual. But, you know, I, yeah. So I want to Dante probably some recency bias because he had such a great game. And curtials kind of been that good all year. I don't know. I know he could be either one, but who'd you go with, man?
I went with Logan Green. And I know his stats aren't sexy, right? I get it. It's his stats are not sexy, but our former, our former, almost called him our former friend. Our former co-host, Dallas. He is still a friend, officially. He's still in the group chat, even. Oh, gosh. I'm not a former co-host. Dallas used to say, you know, for those of you familiar with the show, he used to say that you can have a perfect game as a defensive lineman and not show up in the stat sheet necessarily. And Logan just sets the tone up front. I think, obviously, the highlight is probably how he baited Brungard into that sack. He was like, you know, against YSU when he looked like he was going to give him a lane to run through and shot down and closed it up so quickly. You know, he just, it just collapses the interior.
He's, he's a very different player than Caleb Sanders, right? Logan's more physical. Caleb won with speed and leverage. But, but they achieve similar results. He's really a great player. I think that's a great way to keep the guard from playing in the butt to block against. So I'm going with Logan on my pick for defensive player. Yeah, you've really been able to notice him pushing guys around and eat and eat enough the blocks and bull rushing this year. I mean, he was good last year, but he's been stellar this year. Yeah. So there's not a bad pick on the defense. Right. And he, and he, like, in the defense, too, right? Stealing stats from each other essentially, but so a lot of these guys played less than 10 snaps or, you know, less than 15 snaps for sure in three of our games this year. So of course, they're not going to have huge stats. I mean, the first stringers were out against that's a new haven in eastern Illinois. Pretty early. So.
So, you know, two year point when that we got to the ends of the five minute stand at the goal line or whatever we want to call that the last stand for the animal. We had, we had, you know, not necessarily our starters on the defensive line at that point. That was a point you made in the chat. Yeah. Okay. Often to player of the year. I went with our guy, Josiah Johnson. I think, Josiah, I mean, is put up what 600 yards now. Just just pretty incredible season he's had. You know, we saw glimpses last year of how physical he can be. I feel like he's added some speed and he's added some elusiveness to his game this year. And he's not just a, uh, Lee Roy Horde. I'm going to run through you every play kind of guy. So. But he's still doing that. He's still doing that. And he's still doing that. Thatering ram that's out there softening the defenses for when.
Jane is singer gets the ball and blows one up. Different, little bit different running styles. Both very physical. And, uh, you know, I'm going to be pretty lame with this one because that's who I had as well. Okay. I don't, I don't know that it's anybody else. If a close second was given it probably have to be basing right at this. Right. I think so. Yep. You know, our wide receivers have had, have had some good games. They've had the ball spread around a little bit better and the tight ends a little bit too. So. Yep. He's, he's the one that stands out the most, I guess statistically. Yep. Yep. Okay. Special teams. You're lead. Well. Um, it's hard not to pick Max Pellum. He's great. Um, he hasn't had any real bad moments. So like he gets the nod for me for all the same reasons. And it's kind of fun to like a punter. I don't know why. We, it's good to like place kickers too, but the punters.
Just can be such a weapon and he has been so. Yeah. You know, I thought about getting cute with this and just naming one of the guys on the coverage teams. You know, bow back and I've mentioned a couple times. I thought about that. You know, Elvano's made some, some nice kicks really. Um, But I mean, Pellum, it's Pellum. I mean, we're talking about him potentially playing on Sundays, right? And, and at least getting a shot. And I don't know how you would choose anyone else. So, uh, Max Pellum, special teams not there. Jim, Jim just wanted us to cop out and pick, pick a running back group. No, we don't do that on the show. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Okay. Newcomer. This one was tricky, right? Because I do think they've all had their moments. Um, and they've all, um, had their down moments to, uh, some have played, some of it played a ton. And some have played a lot. Um, but I am going to go with the guy who's just been, I talked about him in the show, been super hot.
Uh, the last two weeks, Paul Kim ever since getting inserted as the starting corner. He just looks great. And I thought in his playing time previous to that, six kept flashing to me. And, uh, I think he looks really good. Then in the preseason, when I did the interviews, both, um, uh, Dishon and McGlin. I saw it, said he was just a technician, just a absolute student of the game. And for coming up from the D three ranks, he has not missed a beat. Like this is not too fast for him. It's not too physical for him. Uh, he looked great out there. So I did go with Paul Kim. Jim Poppin brings up, Kurt Show, I think that's a quality pick to. And, uh, it's, it's hard to pick these and not miss somebody. We need two of us picking, um, and tank, tank far would also be, uh, another one. But I went with surprisingly, burg and tuts loft.
Yeah, okay. I think he deserves that. And, uh, like I said, yeah, Kurt Show could definitely get that, um, you know, I made this pick and then went on to the other one. And went, maybe I should move them there. He is a freshman, but I went another way. I turned with freshman, right? Yep. I do think, um, Sitzman, Carter Sitzman. I mean, he was dominant in the, in the fall camp summer in August there. I don't know what's going on right now, but he has not gotten home yet. Uh, but he is, I mean, I think his time's coming. I think he's, his time's coming and he's going to get some, some really nice pressures here at some point. I mean, if Sitzman, you know, by the end of this is our newcomer of the year, like, yeah, wouldn't surprise him. Yeah. Freshman. I went with, I went with tank. So did I goodness. Did you? Yes. Then I'll go with burg and like I did write both of them down.
I said, tank far or burg and tuts loft. I just assumed you were going to burg and could you get burg and newcomer. So yeah, I'm not going to give them both. Okay. All right. So I'll go with burg and then for freshman. Uh, I mean, just we talked about his, his, uh, battered balls talked about the past Russian his ability to, to collapse the pocket, fumble recovery. Uh, just a big nasty dude that's still learning the position, right? He was again, a linebacker last year at this time for Brookings high school. Um, which is just insane to think about a linebacker and a running back. And so just give him another year to figure this out and hold these smokes. I mean, his potentials through the roof. So does he have soft hands? All right. Can you imagine a six, six, five guy running running a out route from the, right from the running back position? Like JJ what did that was good. Good, good luck stopping him. Yeah.
There we go. So you want to tank though, right? I did. He's been all, he's been excellent in coverage and comes downhill. He plays like a much more senior player. I feel like he's been excellent and he's only going to get better. So there's a reason the coaching staff were writing and raving about him. And he talked about him so much in the previews and stuff. He's, he's the real deal of folks and we're lucky. Oh, Carter an old set he played tight end. So, okay, yes, off to him. All right. There we go. Good, good, good. All right, Chad, biggest surprise. This is where I slaughtered Kirtchell. I mean, I know that he was a player. I know that he was established to stud and D2, but that doesn't necessarily always translate. And so maybe surprise isn't quite the right word. But he's, he's been as good as Freeman in, in the translation from one level to the next and just been an amazing player all over the field, just like Freeman was.
And so I'm, I'm putting Kirtchell here and that's, that's where I, so I didn't leave them off the board, so to speak, but either all all defense here because I were defense or I mean potentially even how great our defense is honestly. Sure. Could, could be out there as a biggest surprise overall. Sure. Okay. So I, my biggest surprise and I'd get that I understand that that makes sense. I went though with Jackson Kirsten. And, you know, this, I do, Chad knows this, I share it with our group, but I don't share it publicly. Usually I do, I did share it publicly, I guess, after spring balls, a two deep, you know, and I did not have Jackson Kirsten anywhere on that list. I don't know if I'd done a three deep if he would have been on the list. It really wasn't until I did my coach interviews and I'm trying to remember who it was first. It must have been coach bang first and then coach eyedness afterwards. I think that was my last interview with coach E.
And they both brought up Jackson Kirsten as someone that was pushing to be the starter at right guard and just kind of came down to, you know, who was better at center. If it was Hutz at center or if it was Jackson Kirsten at right guard and Kirsten must have just graded out higher at right guard and then Willembring was going to be whatever. Whoever, whoever didn't win either right guard or center. And Kirsten has been awesome like this season. So it's just so much fun to see a kid that, again, I don't know if he was a walk out. I don't remember not I know he did that interview with Matt Zimmer a few weeks ago. Yeah. But someone that wasn't necessarily super enthused right away with getting recruited by a CSU. But came out here anyway has put in his time absolutely three years, you know, working, working, working and has got the shot now and has just ran with it. Oh, you know, we see the grades whether it's pf f or pfn.
I know that's just one data point and we can disagree agree on that. But man alive the film doesn't lie. He looks great. So good job. Good job Jackson. Glad you glad you are here with us and stuck it out. Next up biggest disappointment. This is tough. I did go first. I go first. I go first. It's fine. We're sneaking this. Yeah. The biggest disappointment. I went with the pass rush overall in the lack of sacks. Like the lack of actually get the quarterback on the ground. We have a good rush. You know, we've had a number of quarterback hits. Not a ton though actually, but still we only have nine sacks this season through six games. I thought we'd be averaging at least two sacks a game at this point, especially against some of the weaker competition. I guess we didn't have a sack against Illinois state. Those are game changing plays. I would like to see us just get home a little more often there.
It's create some of those negative negative plays. Well, sometimes you know, like with YSU that's by design. Right. Yep. Yep. So. But that can't be a two sacks that game we did at the same time. I get it. But so yeah, that's Jim says that should be the focus for improvement. Yeah, I think it's a good thing to see me. The pod father says it's so go ahead and text Dan Jackson. He'll make sure to make it a point. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. Like we don't have any pole is I was a joke. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have our biggest disappointment is. Chase. Yeah. I think it's a good thing to see him as much as I'm disappointed for him. Sure. You know, I mean, it's a disappointment that this is his last hurrah here at college and he's spent all this time and went through so much. Only to end up at the same place.
Again, and that's a huge disappointment, I think. For him and for everybody that wants to see him play and succeed. He's not the disappointment. Just the fact that we're not able to see him do what we know he's capable of. That's the disappointment. You know, I, Randy, I like what you said there. Why do you see a productivity again? That was something that I thought about writing down to. Just, you know, it's it's hard. The drops seriously at Northwestern. Like that's a different game. Right. I think that's the question is getting their flowers right now. Nationally, and we all know we could beat him. Right. Just a lot of miscues there. So I just think, yeah, like why do you see for productivity for what we have coming back? Again, I still believe those are three of the top receivers in the country. And yeah, we're getting to the point. Third down efficiency. Yes. Yes. Yes. However, four thousand has been pretty good when we go for which this is funny because.
Skies that the efficiency stuff. I need Alex and Timothy Rosario to walk me through this because we keep you know, we're at the top of all these efficiency things, right? They're composite efficiency rankings. But our third down in our red zone have been so awful. Like how does that compute? Like how does that add up? Like if we're bad in red zone and third down efficiency, how does that matter? Like you're right. Yeah. So Timothy and Alex, you're going to have to walk us through like use crayons for us. Please. Figure it out. You're going to make J.I. And it's going to be Alex drawing the crayons on the whiteboard to explain. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, you could not have good. Yeah. Yeah. If you get first downs in the first or second down, but that doesn't make you have poor third down efficiency. Yeah.
I mean, you just don't get there down. So those two things are kind of mutually exclusive. But yeah, sure. There. All right, Chad. You get to lead with second half breakout. Let's see. Let's see. Um, this one was tough for me because who's going to break out? I'm going to go with Delahoy. Okay. Okay. It's a little bit off the cuff because that was a blank spot on my favorite. Sure. Well, I thought this would be obvious. I thought we're going to have the same one for sure. It's Chase Mason. Even before his injury, Chase was, you know, up and down, right? I don't make sense. He had the production necessarily and part of that's the drops. Uh, but I think Chase is going to come back and, um, have a huge second half once he's back. We're going to get there, but I don't really think of it as a breakout because that's more of an expectation for me. Sure.
So fair. I mean, but, but yeah, but no, I mean, that's a good call on your part. I didn't even consider that. Yes. Okay. I'm going to have to go ahead and get the next one. I'm going to have to go ahead and get the next one. I'm going to have to go ahead and get the next one. Okay. You got me there. You got me there. You don't have to agree. No, gosh. We're not going to score in the board. No, we're not scoring this. Uh, You have one for me. Whatever. All right. Um, second half prediction. So here's my prediction. So I think the jacks. This is a stretch. This is a stretch. But we're going to see here. The jacks will have two 1000 yard rushers by the end of the season. I think I'm going to be there. I think James is going to be dang close. So 2000 yard rushers on the jackrabots this year. That's, that's not that impossible, but a good, salty prediction. I like that one. Yeah. Let's go ahead. Let's do it. My predictions pretty lame compared to that. Okay.
I have that we're going to play USD. And it's going to be uncomfortably close. Oh, and we win. We're in a place. On the SPN. Ah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let's, let's point that out when it happens. Um, Little brother. Uh, and then I have us going to you and D. And pulling one out there and running the table. And ending, ending with the perfect season. All right. Cool. It's a stretch to it's hard to do. But I think this team has it in them. Yeah. They only have room for improvement. I mean, the defense is lights out. I don't know what they could do a lot better. They can continue to do what they're doing. And the offense has as room for improvement. Okay. Cool. Jim pop and says two receivers with 10 tuts. Interesting. How close are they? I don't, I don't even know where they're at.
Some of those got the most. Oh, thank you, Jim. I was going to ask about this on the bus. Sorry. I tried to. Yeah. The bus is almost full. Jim says up to grand four. So if you want to go, I know there's not a ton of tickets left. I know there's a gym. I think said less than 500. Uh, then the bus is almost full. So if you want to go get a hold of Jim. I went last year on this bus trip. It is a ton of fun. And, uh, you know, it's a, it's a, it's an interesting venue to watch a game. So you've never been go up there. Yep. Oh, yeah. Perfect season. Rick in the FCS. Okay. Rick. Oh, he knows what was. Yeah. Just get off here. Here engineering high horse. Yeah. All right. Do we have to have the. What? Oh, vocabulary words with chat this week. Yeah. This week's. Right. It's fantastic. This, these predictions and stuff.
Culver's Brookings watertown in North Sioux Falls. Again, stopped and got culver's after the last game with miles. And is in our family and one of his buddies. And just a great. It was so quick. So high quality. The Kurt, Kurt, a burger wasn't available yet to order. So I was going to have to order. And I wish it had been. Because that's. That looks delicious. That new smoked cheddar. Kurt a burger. Yeah. But yeah, stop in. At one of the culvers here. Watertown Brookings in North Sioux Falls. And, you know, it's going to be great. So they also have a fun October at fest game that you can play and win prizes. So maybe check that out. I played it. I wasn't very good at it. Not a video game person. Yeah. Yeah. Whatever. Hey, everyone. Thank you for hanging out with us this last hour. And doing the predictions and awards with us. This was a lot of fun. This might be something if we keep having mid season buys, which is awesome.
By the way, we haven't really touched on that. I can't. I think it's a great time. Right. Exactly where we needed it this year. Yeah. So kind of like the year that we complained about having the end of your buy. But then it ended up being exactly working out. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. Thanks, everyone. This was fun. See you in a couple of weeks as we are next week as we preview you and D and chattily back preview and you and D with you and kind of taking a look across the valley as well. So, yeah. Thank you. Get into our sponsors. Kubota dealers of South Dakota, had their branch. DFS insurance. And then cubbies are in the culverts and cubbies. Appreciate that. Thank you, everyone. And with that, go big, go blue, go check. Go check. Go check.
