Harold had a purple crayon that could bring anything into being — a bicycle, a friend, an entire world drawn from imagination. Children accept that kind of possibility without hesitation. But somewhere between childhood and adulthood, imagination and faith both tend to quietly diminish, and the things that once seemed possible begin to feel out of reach. The Christian walk, however, is built entirely on believing in what cannot yet be seen — which is why cultivating faith is not optional. Without it, Hebrews 11:6 tells us, it is impossible to please God.
Matthew 17:20 gives us one of Jesus' most memorable and encouraging pictures of what faith can accomplish. A mustard seed — 1 to 2 millimeters in diameter — was the smallest seed known to the farmers of Jesus' day. And yet that same seed can grow into a bush-like tree 10 to 20 feet tall. The point is not that small faith is sufficient on its own, but that even small, genuine faith in an infinitely capable God is enough to move mountains. The size of the faith is not what matters — the size of the God that faith is placed in does. Faith grows the same way a mustard seed does: slowly, steadily, through consistent nourishment. Prayer, time in Scripture, and the daily practice of applying God's Word in real life are the conditions in which trust deepens and mountains begin to move. Trust in His might today, and watch what He can do.

Ponder Today
- The size of your faith matters less than the One your faith is placed in. A mustard seed is small — but planted in the right conditions, it grows into something extraordinary. Faith in an infinite God, however small it begins, carries the power of the One it trusts.
- Faith must be cultivated — it does not grow on autopilot. Prayer, Bible reading, and applying God's teachings in daily life are the soil and water that faith requires. Neglect those practices and faith will weaken; invest in them and it will grow.
- Doubt is not a disqualifier — it is an invitation to bring weakness to God. The disciples had little faith, and Jesus responded not with condemnation but with correction and instruction. Our honest admission of small faith opens the door to God's growing work in us.
- Mountain-moving faith begins with trusting God with what is directly in front of you. The impossible things require the same God as the everyday things. Faithfulness in small acts of trust builds the capacity for larger ones over time.
- Every answered prayer is evidence of God's faithfulness, not our own spiritual achievement. Remembering that truth when doubt creeps in keeps our faith properly oriented — not in our own capacity to believe, but in the God who acts on behalf of those who trust Him.
A Prayer for You Today
Dear Jesus, I want to have a faith that can move mountains. My faith tends to be quite small at times, and I doubt You. Please forgive me and guide my heart to greater faith and trust in You. Encourage my heart to cultivate faith by studying the Bible, praying to You, and applying Your teachings in my life. Turn my heart away from anything that distracts me from You. Challenge my heart to believe in the impossible — nothing is too hard for You. Fill my heart with the knowledge that You will answer my prayers and help me move mountains in my life. Help me remember this truth when I am struggling with doubt. I am trusting You with my prayers, my life, and my future. In Your name, Amen.

Truly, I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain move from here to there and it will move nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 1720. In the Children's Picture Book Series, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Harold has a magical purple crayon that can bring anything to life. Whether Harold wants a bicycle or a new friend, he can draw them into being. The book series attributes the magic of Harold's crayon to his imagination.
As we get older, we often lose our imagination and our faith. Imagination and faith often go together because we believe in things that might seem impossible to some people. Our imagination enables us to be creative, create new things, and see the world in a brilliant light. Similarly, our faith enables us to develop trust in the Lord, someone we've never truly seen with our own eyes. The Christian walk is all about faith. Hebers 116 states that, without faith, it's impossible to please God. This means that we must cultivate faith in our daily lives. Faith is crucial to our lives as it equips us to trust in God and to obey Him faithfully. Matthew 1720 tells us, he replied because you have so little faith. Truly, I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can stay to this mountain,
move from here to there and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. While the mustard seed is not the smallest seed in the world, it was the smallest seed known to farmers at the time of Jesus. The orchid seed is the smallest seed in the world yet. The people of Israel would not have been familiar with this seed. More over the orchid seed does not grow into a large plant. Orcids are quite small, measuring one to three feet tall. However, mustard seeds are one to two millimeters in diameter, if they grow into bush-like trees that are 10 to 20 feet tall. The Lord teaches us that even with small faith we can still move mountains. Trusting in the Lord and having faith in what He can accomplish can move mountains in the present world. Think about your own faith. Is your faith strong or weak? What are some ways you can strengthen it?
What causes it to weaken? Having faith in the Lord can be done by praying to Him, spending time with Him in Bible reading and applying His teachings in your life. The more time you spend learning about Him, the greater your faith will grow. Like a mustard seed your faith will produce a large harvest. As the writer of Proverbs tells us, in Proverbs 3, 5 through 6, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to Him and He will make your paths straight. Trust in His might today and watch mountains move in your life. If He moves mountains with small faith, imagine what He can do with strong faith. Praise the Lord for His wonderful blessings. Let's pray. Dear Jesus, I want to have a faith that can move mountains.
My faith tends to be quite small at times and I doubt you. Please forgive me. I ask that you guide my heart to greater faith and trust in you.
