Local people, local stories. This is the all local from 1010 wins. I'm Kathleen Marple-Calb and here are today's top local stories. A five alarm fire with environmental concerns in Patterson early today. The massive blaze at the former Galaxy Chemical Factory and DPA Superfund cited 28 piercing street burned into the wee hours of the morning. Deputy Fire Chief Michael Clean Potato reporters Cruz had to be cautious. The chemicals were mitigated a year ago from what we understand, whether it was any residual stuff inside the building is unable to determine. No injuries were reported. The only residents that are affected right now are here on Piercie Street. As you can see behind me, the wall did collapse onto some vehicles and did catch a vehicle on fire. Nearby homes are still without power as the mop up continues. The EPA website says the hazardous materials were removed in 2019, but the cleanup is not finished. Police have a second arrest in the death of an infant in a stray bowling bullet shooting in Brooklyn. The suspect charged with murder, attempted murder and other offenses
is 21-year-old Amurie Green, who police say was on a speeding moped when shots were fired. He's going to tell you like it is. He's going to find a way there. Candles, teddy bears and pictures of seven-month-old Keori Patterson more show the outpouring of love that comes from a community shaken. We show a lot of love, especially for, you know, baby. They're just born, you know. It broke my heart. I've been about to sleep this night, you know. So I just want to come out here and support him. Stacey Jane, with her son by her side, added flowers. Macros and Burke 1010 wins on 92-3 FM in Bushwick. They went looking for doorbell camera video and instead, police got their suspect in a Bronx shooting. This happened Thursday night. Police say 21-year-old Justin Chatfield was shot in the chest just before 10-30pm, apparently trying to break up an argument in the hallway outside his apartment on Richmond Avenue in Morris Heights. He was taken to the hospital where he died. Police noticed a neighbor's doorbell camera and knocked on the door to see if they might have any footage of the mine help. Instead, media reports say 76-year-old Gilbert Smalls confessed
to the shooting. He is now charged with murder and manslaughter. He was set for a rainment yesterday. Screen time limits set by City Council. It could happen with a new bill that would cap time at one hour a day for kids under 17. The time your kids spend scrolling on TikTok, watching Instagram and YouTube videos could be limited to one hour if this new City Council bill passes. Because they'll just spend, stay on it forever. It's a lot. When you think about it, they're always scrolling. Oh yeah. Tell them to get off then they're always going to stay on. You have a role for them? Usually after like hours sold, then it's like, all right, time to get off, play with your toys or read. But Dylan, who's 14, says he needs more than one hour. Do you think one hour on the internet is enough time for you? No, I'm not out of it. How much time do you want? Whatever hour. If this bill does pass and the City Council finds social media companies violating that they can be getting fined thousands of dollars per violation. Mary Lynn Buckley, 1010 wins on 92, 3 FM in Bay Ridge. There are some very special whales out there right now. The Wildlife Conservation Society says new studies show
endangered say whales are using the waters off New York as a key spring habitat. Dr. Howard Rosenbaum leads the New York Society's BITE program. He tells 1010 wins. This is a whale that isn't regularly seen in the waters off of our shores. They're seen further offshore. But by using cutting edge technology, we're able to find out how and when these whales are here. And in particular, they're here in the spring months, March, April and May. It's not just interesting. It's also very important for the whales. A dead say whale washed up on a rockaway beach last week, possibly after being hit by a ship. This research could prevent future problems like that. One more concern from the harsh winter, an increase in the feral cat population. John De Leonardo is the executive director of Humane Long Island. He tells 1010 wins. While they're hiding out in their shelters, they're making babies. And we're seeing the results of that now. We're seeing a large increase in feral cats being born.
So what can you do? We're asking the public to contact their local rescue. If you see a cat who you suspect may be pregnant or any cat, even let's get them before they're pregnant. If you see that they're not fixed, please just don't feed them. Feed them, but also contact a rescue group to come and stay and deliver them. Now that the weather is warmer, rescue groups will be going on again and there will be more animals in need of help and homes. It is Hoppy Hunt Day in NASA with a big Easter celebration at Lakeview Park. Let us later carry a sewage to those 1010 wins. It's all about the kids. And we're going to have a fun, filled day of events for children, myself and Assemblymember Noah Burrows will be throwing footballs and we're going to have hair braiding events. Of course, the egg hunt. The whole thing is said for Harold Walker Memorial Park, festivities begin at noon. The hunt for some 2,000 eggs takes off at 3 p.m. sharp. Well, he makes pizzas, but he's a hero to his customers. That's what folks are saying in Elmhurts, Queens, after Luis Ouluk, the owner of Luis Pizza scared off a mug or arm
to the box cutter. This happened Wednesday night. Guy came in and asked for food. Luis gave him a slice. Only for the guy to come back with a box cutter and threaten a worker. That's when Luis jumped the suspect. Guy tried to run, police arrested him. Customers told NewsNation. He's a very good man. It's not the first time. The first time he helped a woman that was getting robbed, he's a hero to the community. The suspect, 34-year-old Jose Guard Fables, has been charged with criminal mischief and menacing. He's guilty, and he's promising restitution. A Long Island financial adviser has admitted defrauding seniors of millions. Some of the victims in the courtroom are in their 80s. One victim said she lost $210,000 because of Vincent Camarda, the former president of AG Morgan Financial Services. Periodically, we get emails saying that they're waiting on a loan. The loans are going through Greece. Nearly 400 victims in total, the 62-year-old pleaded guilty, and agreed to pay $160 million
in restitution. It's a good Friday. Something has come of this. She does not believe she will ever see a diamond restitution. Sophie, a whole 1010 wins a 92-3 FM on Long Island.
