This from Sam, Sam writes Kevin, kudos to you for finding Steve Souter. His straightforward film breakdown is the best I've seen and that includes Cooley. Okay, maybe not Cooley, but I couldn't turn it off last night and I had to let you know how great it was. Thank you for that, Sam. Yeah, Souter yesterday first installment of the film breakdown, doing the Dallas game. He was really good. This from JC, JC writes, Souter is the man taking notes. My boys and I started a text chain on what he says. Then I got this, I got this from E and Gathersburg, E writes Kevin.

4:07I can't believe that I'm so mesmerized by everything that comes out of Steve Souter's mouth about our team and kudos to you for the chemistry you have with him and your other regulars. Thank you for that. Yeah, he's really good. He's really, really good. Just don't tell Cooley, I said that. Chris is the goat when it comes to film breakdown. I'll never get off that. But he just doesn't watch a lot of football anymore and I'm telling you, thank you to Matt Swope, the baseball coach at Maryland who listens to this show. He's the one that reached out to me last year early in the season and said, have you ever thought of using Steve Souter as a Cooley replacement for your film breakdown every week? And I said, well, why would I do that? He's just the Maryland analyst and he was very good as a guest on the show whenever I

5:10would have him on. And he said, he's really into it. He's really good at it. I think he might be able to do it. Of course, last year he was brilliant doing it. We got him back doing it this year and yesterday if you missed it, it was a bit long and he and I talked about it afterwards. We're going to try to keep it a little bit shorter, but there was a lot to talk about from that game Sunday. And I'll give you, I want you to go back and listen to it if you haven't listened to it. But I did think the most interesting thing other than the sequence at the end of the first half where he talked about Terry's drop on first and goal of the one, Jayden missing Diamy Brown on second and goal at the one. And then he does not believe Dan Quinn when Dan Quinn said the play was an option. You know, a Jayden sprint option with Rashad White as a pitch guy. And he went through all of the reasons why that was incredibly interesting.

6:13But I thought that one of the more interesting things that he talked about was the running back situation. He is just not a Bill Croskey merit fan. Three things were shot white is the better back. And look, last year he wasn't a big Bill fan either. He just wasn't. I think we saw some things from Bill at the end of last year that would indicate that he's got the potential to be, you know, a thousand yard back. We haven't had one of those since Antonio Gibson. I don't think Steve sees it in Croskey merit at all. Nothing to keep an eye on. I did think when they signed Rashad White that they did it because they felt like they needed an option for Croskey merit and a veteran alternative because they wanted to make sure that they had somebody that could A. Run the football, B. Catch it and C. Block.

7:18And I think Croskey merit had some of those issues last year. Many rookie running backs do. Anyway, thanks for those tweets and emails about Steve. I could have read those for 20 more minutes and still I would have had some left. He is very good. Actually, I wanted to read this one. This from my guy Bobby in North Carolina. Souter was excellent. I think Marcus will be fine in Blow's offense, but it's a tough matchup this week for the offense. Yeah, Steve seems to be confident that Marcus and he liked Marcus running the offense last year. He seems to think that Marcus is a really good backup quarterback. Of course, it's not going to be what Jaden Daniels is, but he thinks Marcus is a little bit more advanced as a passer, you know, and will hit some of the stuff that Blow wants him to hit maybe more often than Jaden Daniels does.

8:18By the way, I want to talk about Mario to for a minute. And then I'm going to share my, my hunch as of today on what will happen with Jaden Daniels. So Mario is without question a solid backup quarterback in the NFL, you know, and he's been, you know, a starter in the NFL, of course, as well. And the reason he has been a starter is that he can make every throw. He can see it. He can deliver it. He can obviously play with his legs as a dual threat quarterback or off schedule as a passer. He does that very well. The two things over the years that have been issues for me when it comes to Mario and they are the issues that I'm still concerned with as he takes over. And the reason, the reasons I just don't think that if he ends up starting and Jaden gets surgery, let's just say if he went and got surgery and missed the season, I just, I have a hard

9:22time believing that Marcus Mariotta starting, you know, at this point, 15 football games that you'd be able to get 10 out of the next 15 to get to the postseason, especially if your defense isn't really good. But the two things over the years that have been issues for him as far as I'm concerned. Number one is I think he's been too casual, you know, as a quarterback and that's led to some problems for him. And number two is he gets injured. Let's not forget about his injury history. We're focused on Jaden right now in his recent injury and his recent injury history, but Mario to sprained his MCL during a preseason game against Miami, missed the rest of the preseason. At the end of last year, he injured his hand, cost him what, the final two games were Josh Johnson played. I pulled up his entire career injury history. It's pretty extensive. I mean, pretty much every year he ends up with something.

10:24In 2015, his rookie year, he had an MCL sprain. It was a grade two. He missed four games that year. He had a fracture of his leg in 2016. And that was late in the season, cost him the whole off season. 2017, he had a hamstring pull. He only missed one game that year. 2018, he had an arm elbow sprain, missed a game, missed two games that year with the arm elbow sprain and also a cervical neck stinger. I'm sorry, he missed three games in 2018. 2020, he was placed on IR with a peck strain. Had a leg quad strain in 21 that cost him preseason games and then a couple of games into the regular season. He did it again and he was placed on injured reserve in 2021. 2022, he had a knee strain and missed the end of the season.

11:282024, when he got here before he ever played, he actually had a chest pectoral pull. And then he had the hand injury end of last year and the MCL knee sprain in the preseason this year. So, you know, number one with him over the course of the years is his availability has always been an issue. And then as good as he has been at times. And I do think some of those teams that he played for with Arthur Smith in particular, it was interesting to watch him as a dual threat quarterback in Atlanta. The one season he had there, I thought he actually played pretty well. Remember his final game before he kind of went AWOL. There's a whole story around that that I don't think has ever been told completely. But he came here on Thanksgiving weekend in the midst of a pretty good season at Atlanta, like Washington, this was 2022 was in playoff contention. He drove him down the field and remember the ball was tipped and picked in the end zone

12:34to end the game. Washington held on for the win. But I think there's just been a casualness to his game. And you know, that's his personality. He's a laid back guy. He's always had enough talent, but he always seemed to be a guy who could win games, but not enough games. In part because he would make too many mistakes and the mistakes always seemed like they were a result of being careless with the football or casual with the football. I look this up Mario to has 50 career fumbles in 105 games. So that's almost a fumble every other game. And eight starts last year for Jaden Daniels. The ball hit the ground six times. He had six fumbles in eight games last year. He only lost three of them, but still that is too much of putting the ball on the ground.

13:39Now we don't have a choice for the next few games and it could be a lot worse. I do think Marcus Mario is a good backup quarterback for Jaden Daniels. And I think he's probably in the top five to top 10 of backups in the league. There are a lot of pretty good backup situations in the last couple of years, but I think he's in the top 10 worst worst case top five best case. So they have a guy that can go in and he can run the offense. The offense can function. And if everybody else does their part and if the defense picks up some of the slack as well, you know, they're not going to be a terrible football team with him at quarterback. They weren't last year. You know, the offense was not the problem last year. If we were, you know, comparing the two sides of the football and saying which was worse, the defense was much worse. Kingsbury with Mario as the starter for the majority of the games last year still had

14:42the offense in the top half of the league in most, you know, advanced and traditional categories. So we'll see. I mean, Sundays a tough matchup as Bobby and North Carolina said, he's not wrong about that. Seattle is loaded on defense. And you know, depending on who's healthy, I'd love to get chig back, but it doesn't look like he practiced today. New voodoo didn't practice today. Kinlaw didn't practice. That defense is going to be a problem. This is going to be a big challenge for David Blow and Marcus Mario. It would have been a big challenge with Jaden on the field Sunday against the Seahawks. All right, speaking of Jaden, this is based on nothing. Okay, that I know nothing that I know. And as of this recording, there's been really no update on Jaden. I'm checking, you know, X right now just to make sure nothing's broken newswise in

15:43the last, you know, 30 minutes. My hunch is that Jaden Daniels is coming back to play football this year with a brace. And it'll happen sooner than it did last year after the injury against Seattle. It's just a hunch. I'm not saying it's the right thing or the wrong thing. Okay. I've said my piece on this, the long game answer would be if there's really risk to him going out there with a brace, then he should probably get the surgery. And then we know from 2027 on the elbows not going to be an issue. But if there isn't like a major risk and he can play with the brace, I'd like to see him play. I don't want his long term to be put at risk for this season in which they are O and two. And they could be O and 3, O and 4 or 1 and 3 or 1 and 4 when he comes back.

16:45But my current hunch is he's going to wear a brace, he's going to play football. And I wouldn't be surprised if he's back when the team gets back from London playing in Deanapolis and he's ready to suit up and play against the Giants. I think the other scenario which is a good bet too is that he would come back after the buy week and be ready for Philadelphia on Sunday night football November 1st, which by the way at this rate could get flexed out of Sunday night if Washington doesn't win some games. And again, like I talked about yesterday, they could reassess at 1 and 5 or 0 and 6 or 1 and 4 or 0 and 5 if the plan was to brace it up and play and say it's probably not worth it because we can't go have a season that will result in playoff contention. Now I know that some of you might say that should not be part of the conversation.

17:51I'm not saying it should or shouldn't. I have a feeling it might be though, but that is only if there's true serious consequences to him playing with a brace. The orthopedic surgeon that I had on the other day said he's more susceptible and a brace isn't going to prevent it completely. It will protect him. It will make the chances of another dislocation less than not wearing the brace, but he's already now susceptible to another elbow dislocation. And he did say the risk is it's not that he's never going to play football again if he gets another elbow dislocation, but it would be that the surgery could potentially be more complex because there could be some bone and structural issues and the recovery might be longer. That's what they'll be weighing. The record might be a part of that calculus as well when they get to that point.

18:56The long game answer without knowing everything about the medical would seem to be you're going to have a 10 plus year career. If we can eliminate the elbow from ever becoming an issue again by getting surgery, get the surgery if there's risk to playing before a surgery in the off season. But if there's minimal risk to playing and maybe he'll still get the surgery when the season is over, maybe the brace isn't a dereliction of duty on the part of his inner circle and the team in protecting this very valuable asset. There's just too much about the injury we don't know, but my hunch just to reiterate, my hunch is that Jayden's going to be back and he's going to be back playing with the brace. And I think it'll be sooner than most people think.

19:58Last year it was a four week recovery before he was ready to play. One of those weeks was a by week, the three games and the by week. If he's back for New York, it would really be a two game miss and he's back on the field. I wonder actually last year after he did what he did against Seattle, if it was actually healed in time to have been able to play, you know, a little bit earlier, had the record not been three and eight or three and nine. He came back in that Minnesota game, if you recall, and they passed on him playing against Denver on that Sunday night. Mario is one of his best games of the year. So anyway, that's my hunch. Terry McClaren today interviewed after the practice today had this to say about Jayden's absence and listen carefully.

21:00I think he's implying Jayden's return. Just unfortunate. The space we find ourselves in not winning the game and Jayden going down, but you know, it's only week two and, you know, we know Jayden will be back. So I was just really focused on this week. Terry McClaren, we know that Jayden will be back. But when Terry, when I think it could be as soon as two weeks from Sunday against the giants, just a guess I swear I have not talked to anybody that would truly know anything at this point. 26:13The Seahawks are 2 and O. They are the defending champs. They come into Washington for Washington's home opener off a 31-7 win over the Cardinals and impressive win. The question I'll start with is who do you expect to be under center on Sunday at 1 o'clock here in DC? Well, thanks for the introduction, by the way. If only I had John Kym since the humor, then that would be something. That is a great question. Mike McDonald did say that if Sam can play, if Sam Darnal can play, he's going to play. I do kind of think that that is what a head coach has to say in that situation because you don't want to give the impression that, OK, let's say McDonald may be inclined to take things flow with Sam Darnal. If he's sort of on the fence, then maybe the way that Drew Locke has been playing, maybe the fact that Washington is going to be without Jayden Daniels, and the Seahawks probably

27:15would have a pretty good chance of beating them even with Jayden Daniels. I don't think McDonald can imply that or let that thought creep into his team's head. I think he sort of has to say that if Sam Darnal can play, he's going to play. I do think those factors are going to weigh into his thinking. The plan is for Darnal to practice on Wednesday. We'll see. I don't know if he's necessarily going to be a full participant, but that's a long-winded way of saying, I don't really know. I don't know if the Seahawks know at this point. I do kind of wonder if human nature takes over for Sam Darnal here. A quarterback nature takes over. I wonder if maybe he's looking at the way Drew Locke has played his butt off the last two games and is thinking, even as a superbow-winning quarterback who made the pro bowl last year, I wonder if maybe Sam Darnal is a little more motivated, not that he wouldn't have been trying to get back as quickly as possible, but maybe there is a little extra nudge to

28:18get back quickly just seeing the way that Drew Locke has played. I think that that's the way even established quarterbacks think. So describe the way Drew Locke's played and tell me if people are surprised by it. He's played excellent. You know, he's thrown four touchdown passes, three of them came in the game yesterday, or excuse me, three of them came in the game on Sunday to Jackson Smith and Jigba. He has not turned the ball over, which was a huge problem for him earlier in his career. And I think what we're seeing is, and we get reminders of this constantly, we got a reminder of it with Sam Darnal over the last few years that how a quarterback plays over his first few seasons, unless it's such a bad situation that the guy just becomes broken and he develops incorrectable habits and his head is all messed up. Quarterbacks do have the right to get better, and especially when they're in good situations with good teams around them, good coaching and all that. And I think you're seeing that with Drew Locke.

29:19He just says not the same quarterback that turned the ball over a bunch of times early in his career with Denver. I don't even think he's the same quarterback that couldn't beat out Geno Smith in 2022 when the Seahawks acquired him in the roughs of Wolfen trade. And by the way, a lot of people in the organization really thought that he was going to be their starter and then Geno Smith beat him out. And even when he went to New York for a season a couple of years ago and made five starts for the Giants and went one in four. He's in a much better situation than he was right now than he was then. It's the better team, better weapons, better defense, all that. So he's doing a really good job of taking care of the football. And in the first game against New England, with a lot of shorter throws, his average area yards per attempt was only six yards. So his average throw went only an average of six yards beyond the line of scrimmage. So not a lot of downfield stuff, but he did push the ball downfield against Arizona. It was eight points something yards, which was kind of right around league average.

30:22And so he's just, he looks like a starter. And believe it or not, he's sitting there after two weeks with the fourth best total QVR of any quarterback in the NFL. So pretty surprising. Well, I mean, you mentioned it and I talk about it all the time. You know, Baker Mayfield in Sam Darnold. And by the way, Geno Smith in Seattle with Dave Canales is, you know, the quarterback's coach before Canales and went to Tampa and resurrected Baker Mayfield's career. Like situation is so important and you can't give up on these guys. I mean, I said it on the show already this week, what Drew Lock is doing, you know, I don't want to make it apples to apples to Malik Willis because Malik Willis entered free agency in a year where there really weren't quarterbacks available in the draft after Mendoza, but he's probably even if he plays well in just one more start, he's probably played his way into a pretty hefty free agent contract to start somewhere next March.

31:25Yeah, I have had the same thought. You know, maybe even if it's not, you know, he is 29 years old. So he's sort of probably middle of his career. I would say at this point. Right. It's not a big deal to come in and here are the keys to be the franchise guy, but, you know, maybe it's, you get a two year deal to be a bridge starter for a team that plans on drafting a quarterback high. You know, it could be, it could be one of those two things, but even then, you know, bridge quarterbacks get paid pretty well. And so I just think, I mean, even if he doesn't get another start, I think he's played so well, but he's first couple games that, you know, some team might, might, you know, see him as a pretty good bridge quarterback. And look, you don't have to look further than the Monday night game. You know, when James Winston went there and absolutely stunk it up, or, you know, more than a half of, you know, that's the reminder of, hey, this is how bad it can look when a

32:25backup quarterback comes in there and he's either not ready or he's not all that good. You know, Drew Lock is probably the exception. So, you know, the defending Super Bowl champions are always, you know, scrutinized and talked about a lot. And Kenneth Walker, the third, the Super Bowl MVP goes to Kansas City. And by the way, right now, looks like the free agent acquisition of the season, the Seattle drafts, the other Notre Dame running back, Giderian price, end of the first round, you know, Jeremiah Love obviously went for overall to Arizona. I guess the question I'm leading up to is, do you think they're better than they were last year, worse or the same? At running back, you mean? No, the team overall. Oh, the team overall. I mean, they definitely lost more talent than they gained. I think, you know, at least in terms of immediate, you know, guys that you expect to come in and produce right away, because there's obviously only so much you can count on from

33:28a rookie. Yeah, I mean, they lost a good amount of talent. I do think that they didn't get decimated the way that a lot of people sort of viewed them as getting, you know, they lost, I would say four players, really. It was Kenneth Walker, the third, Kobe Bryant, Rick Wolland, and Boy and Maffe. And I wouldn't say that any of those contracts that those players got were contracts that the C.O.C. necessarily should have given those. So I mean, Boy and Maffe, good for him, got $20 million this season after being, you know, a rotational edge guy with two sacks last year. You know, Kobe Bryant got a massive free agent contract. I think $40 million over three years, which again, good for him. Rick Wolland was somebody that, you know, he ended up kind of not having probably as big of a market as he wanted to. And that was really the one where, in retrospect, you look back at that and say, man, I wonder

34:28if that deal was really available to them just because the way that their third cornerback situation looked for much of camp, it looked like his loss was going to be a bigger deal than it seemed like it would be in March. Then again, me and my approach had stepped into that role. It's played pretty well over the first couple games. With Walker, you know, I'm very interested to see what happens when the first few injuries pop up because, you know, he did a great job of staying healthy last season, played in all 20 games, was hardly on the injury report. But I think in Seattle, he kind of developed a reputation as a guy who wasn't maybe all that willing to push through some injuries. And, you know, there were a bunch of them that came up over his four seasons with the C.O.C. And so what does that look like now that he's gotten paid? Now that he no longer has the care of free agency that maybe you would think would make a guy inclined to, you know, do everything he can to stay on the field. So if that said, he's looked tremendous, that looks like it's going to be a home run

35:29signing for them as long as he can stay healthy, which is a big question mark. Well, how has Chidarian Price looked and when is Zach Sharbinay going to be back? Yeah, Price's looked, I would say, as good as advertised and even in some ways, probably better because the big question within, well, one of the big questions with his skill set was, you know, what is he going to contribute in the passing game? Because, you know, I think he only had, what was it, 15 catches over his career at Notre Dame. And so you wonder, like, you know, can this guy be a three down back? I think, you know, maybe he was probably a better receiver than those numbers suggested just because Jeremiah loved he did everything and including catch passes. And I also think that he worked on that part of his game, you know, after college. And so he looks like a capable pass catcher. He's got, he's got some closiveness. I don't think he has the same, like, fifth year, so to speak, that Walker has, but, you

36:31know, you see him get on the edge and he can rip off some explosive runs. You know, you're maybe not going to see those, you know, 50, 60 yard runs that you saw sometimes with Ken Walker where he just is too fast and he outraces everybody. But, you know, you're going to see his first run went for 12 yards. And, you know, when he gets to the edge, you can see that he can, he's going to rip off some nice runs. Right now he's got a shoulder injury and I'm not sure what his status is for this week. It doesn't sound like it's going to be a long term thing, but it sounds like it could be something that could threaten his availability for Sunday. And then as for Charvene, you know, we are going to get word pretty soon as to win the Seahawks or whether or not they're going to open his 21 day practice window, which they can do starting this week. He still has to miss two more games while he's on QUP, but if they open up his 21 day practice window this week, that would tell me that there's a pretty good chance he is out there by week five when he's eligible to start playing again. Defense look dominant against New England in the opener, but the opener is the opener and

37:33we know it can be a head fake week one, but it was dominant again on Sunday in Arizona. This looks like a real difficult challenge for Washington with Marcus Mario de at quarterback. How good is this defense? It is really good. It is so good that you will, it almost kind of sneaks up on you how good they are because you'll be watching the game and then realize that three quarters, the other team has like 105 yards of offense. I mean, they held Jacobi for set to I think under 100 passing yards, which is sort of unheard of in today's NFL. There's not really one thing. It's not a defense that really I would say is led by one specific position group. It's really all three levels. They've got playmakers at all three levels and they've done this by the way without maybe they're single most talented player in Nick Eman-Wari who missed the opener coming off the

38:35July ankle surgery and only played nine or so snaps in week two. It sounds like he should be a full go here pretty soon and I think he unlocks a lot of stuff for them and the ability to cover basically anybody. He's listed as a safety but he sort of plays like an outside linebacker to the point where he's even on the line of scrimmage at times is because there's so many things that he can do with his body type and his size and strength and all that. So, Devon Witherstone is a guy that they paid a lot of money to over the summer and ideally, they would like to use him in the slot because that's where he impacts the game the most with his ability to blitz which you saw on the Super Bowl and his ability to just sort of stick his nose in there in the run game and be a bigger factor in run support. They can only really do that if they feel good about their third cornerback because you only moving Witherstone inside when you're in nickel and you're only in nickel when you

39:37feel good about your third cornerback and that's why I mentioned Nea and my appritch at earlier. He's been sort of a pleasant surprise because I think a lot of people myself included would look at that position as the biggest question mark on that defense but he's played well, that's allowing Witherstone to move inside and that's allowing him to make plays where he has the best chance of doing so. I wanted to end the conversation with you by talking about what you wrote about a week ago about Mike McDonald and the difficulties he had adjusting to being a head coach shortly after he was hired back in January of 2024. He didn't outright say that he was depressed or suffering from depression, but it certainly seemed like he was dealing with something similar to that. I'll let you tell everybody what you wrote and this very interesting reveal from the Super Bowl winning head coach Mike McDonald about what happened to him the first few months after

45:59he arrived in Seattle. By the way, just a quick aside there, yeah, McDonald was, I want to say his final two choices really were Washington and the Seahawks. I was told that before he accepted the Seahawks job, he called Josh Harris to say, basically, thank you, but I'm going to take the Seahawks job and it sounds like he had developed a relationship with Josh Harris throughout that process. Another classic what if in the NFL? That was probably more candid than I expected McDonald to be in that interview. I would encourage people to go check out the entire thing because there was some really fascinating stuff, but that was probably the most newsworthy bit out of it was McDonald really talking about how badly he struggled personally over those first few months with the Seahawks. You're right, he stopped sort of calling it depression, but he was describing a lot of things that I imagine that somebody who was actually qualified to get that diagnosis would say is

47:01in line with that. At a hard time getting out of bed, on the weekends he would basically stay in bed when he would come home from work at night, he would just get in bed and he wouldn't really get out until it was time to go to work the next morning and even said he was drinking a lot at that time. It was more candid than I would expect the coach to be just because I think, but in an admirable way because I think some people in leadership positions might have a hard time sort of admitting that they have had those kind of struggles. I think he sort of talked about how a lot of it was based on, you know, some of it, I think he and his wife lost their dog unexpectedly, but he also talked about how some of this was a product of the massive expectation that he had put on himself and just all the pressure he was putting on himself and he wasn't really seeing, and this, by the way, was over the first few months of him being on the job in, you know, 2024, so probably spring of 2024 and he was just talking about how, you know, some of the things that he

48:05wanted fixed weren't really getting fixed as quickly as he wanted to and that was putting him in a bad spot mentally. And just for people to have an idea, you know, this is a guy who could not get himself to rewatch the Super Bowl for several weeks, if not maybe a couple months until after the game because he knew that he would be picked off by some of the things defensively that Seattle did in that game. And by the way, that was a game that they won 29, 13 and their defense dominated in that game. So that's the kind of, you know, perfectionist mindset that you're dealing with here and that I think maybe provides some context as to, sure, I feel why he was going through what he was going through. Yeah, I mean, there could have, I mean, obsessive compulsive, all that stuff sort of plays into this. I'm not going to diagnose him obviously, but I found that the story fascinating because as a first time head coach, for those of you, I would really encourage you to read it.

49:11Brady Henderson at Brady Henderson, the ESPN dot com, he's got all of his stories up. But to be a first time head coach, the expectations of, you know, you get in there and you're working your ass off 24 seven to get this thing turned around. And he said, I couldn't get out of bed. I was a terrible leader. I couldn't communicate. I was showing up for work late. Do you remember anything about people in that building wondering what the hell was going on or having second thoughts early on? No, I remember hearing at the time from someone in the building that, you know, he was kind of struggling with his dog, you know, dog was four years old and it died unexpectedly that he was kind of struggling with that. But I didn't get to sense at the time that it was something that went like well beyond that and was really affecting him sort of like professionally. And I don't even know if maybe other people in the building did.

50:14I mean, we, somebody asked the defensive coordinator, Ed and Dirty about it and maybe he was just, you know, playing dumb for lack of a better sense. But I think he surrogated the impression that he was not really aware of that. So I don't know. I don't know. I did not realize at the time what the full extent of it. I mean, fast forward, he's a superbowl winning coach and he's done a phenomenal job and is obviously a defensive, you know, high level defensive coach. All right. We'll end it with this. I'm assuming that there's not much concern in Seattle about playing Washington without Jaden Daniels at quarterback, even if Drew Locke has to be the starter. I mean, they would never admit that publicly, obviously. But I think this is a team that, yeah, I mean, the way that Drew Locke is playing, the way the defense is playing, you know, the run game is, it looks good late in that game.

51:15Certainly they closed it out with a 16 play drive and they ran, you know, almost, I think maybe on almost every play and really iced that game out with a drive that lasted 10 minutes and finished in the end zone. So they've got what it takes, I think, to win without their starting quarterback for, you know, a good chunk of the season, obviously depending on the opponents they play, I would think that they would feel pretty good about their chances of going into Washington and beating, you know, Marcus Marriota and the commanders, even if Drew Locke has to play. Again, they're not going to admit that. And I do think that that, even if they wouldn't say it publicly, I do wonder if that would play into their decision on which quarterback to start this week. If it was a case where Darnell was kind of on the fence, like, you know, maybe you start him if it's playoff game, but maybe in this case with a team that you should be able to be even with your backup quarterback, maybe they give Darnell one more week just to make

52:15sure that he's all the way back. C-Hawks currently six and a half point favorites. The NFL is weird this way. The public all over Seattle in this game. They're going to play the game anyway, Brady, regardless of whose play and what everybody thinks will happen. 58:32because it's an overtime kind of a thing. Have you ever seen the movie? It was a low budget documentary called Getting the Best of It. And it was following. I never saw that. Oh, you should watch it. It followed a handful of, I would call them low level professional gamblers on sports in Vegas. And they were, you remember our old friend Brandon Lang? Oh, well, of course. They made a movie out of it. They made a movie too for the money. I know. But this is a, this is a, I would say that this is a little bit darker of a look because it's a real gamblers. Well, yeah, right. I'm not saying that they're degenerate low lives, but they weren't exactly killing it, per se, but they were always talking about getting the best of it, meaning they had to get the best line and the best edge because that's really where the winning goes. Okay, enough about that. Before we get into some of the lines, you asked me before we hooked up, you said, are we going to talk, Jaden Daniels? And I said, who boy would I love to? I know you've talked it up one side and down the other on your show.

59:37How do you want to steer me into my first conference with you? This, if you were doing local, what you do on the weekends sometimes. The question here is, it's probably going to come down to surgery and he's done for the majority if not the entire year or brace it up and let's go. Now we did, you know, you love these days, you remember these days, literally could have taken calls for the entire three hours on just this question because it goes deeper, right? It's like, well, what's the right thing for him? Well, maybe it's surgery, but we don't really know. We don't know what that thing looks like. We've all had orthopedic surgeons on the shows the last few days and they all say one thing consistently and that is that once it happens for a second time, you're now much more susceptible to elbow dislocation and now you're getting into that area where you will eventually need

1:00:38surgery. Sooner is a better prognosis with a faster recovery. Later after a third or a fourth, it becomes more problematic. So one angle is this is your fruit future. This is the guy, 10 years from now, you want associated with your franchise, Jaden Daniels, Elite Level Talent and he fixed it in year three and he hasn't had an issue since. Or if bracing it up protects it to a certain degree, do you really want to waste a season two weeks into it? And then the other aspect of this day is they don't have to make a decision now. They can wait to see what happens the next few weeks without them. If they're O and 4, O and 5 or 1 and 5, it's probably not worth it. If they're two and four and they can steal a couple, bring them back. I would say that when I first saw this happen on Sunday like everyone, my first reaction was, oh snap or the S word like Tom Brady said.

1:01:42But then my immediate secondary reaction was, okay, that sucks. But all right, we're going to just kind of deal with this again, at least it's not as knee or something worse like as a kill ease, right? It's not Jackson dark. But since that time, since that first thought of snap, okay, we're going to manage through it. I am both stunned by the recovery time it takes for surgery. And I am also gutted by the now wrong decision, probably by Daniels and his team to not get the surgery last year. Because I understand that he opted out of it thinking, well, I don't want a 12 month recovery that would then compromise this year. So I'm going to rehab it and bring it back on its own. Now you're probably going to have to go the surgery right. I had no idea it was a 10 to 12 month recovery. She's nor did I. That's not what the orthopedic surgeon that came on my show said. I haven't seen anywhere.

1:02:42See, anywhere. It's if it's this second time and there's not a lot of bone and structural damage, it could be a three to six month thing. I haven't heard 10 to 12 months from anybody. Okay, all right. Okay, then that saw things the blow for me. But he's got to get surgery. Now he did opt out of surgery last year, right? When he probably should have had. I don't think so. I don't think I don't think it was proposed as an option. What is it? It had to be an option. Well, after the first dislocated elbow, the recurrence rate is between one and two percent and surgery is very rare. Oh, real? After you dislocate your elbow for the first time. Now, that's one and two percent of what? The general population or athletes? And of a tab matter. It did. The overall recurrence rate of a dislocated elbow once you've done it is very low and the operation rate, the surgical route is very rare. Now, he did reagrivate it in a game against Minnesota a few weeks after he did it against

1:03:47Seattle. We don't know a lot about that particular injury. The reporting on that's very vague. The doctors that I've talked to, or the pedics have said, the reagrivation could have and maybe even should have led to at least a conversation about surgery, especially when they decided to shut him down for the rest of the year. But he said it's not a lock that it led to that, especially if he didn't dislocate it again, because aggravation can be a myriad of things. But no, it's not a conversation that typically happens after the first time. But from my understanding, if he were to get a surgery now before, say, a third or a fourth dislocation, it's more like three to six months. But if he dislocated it for a third time or a fourth time, that's when recovery becomes much longer in surgery becomes more complicated. See what's happened here over the course of the last few days? I've gone to med school.

1:04:47Yeah, you're free. No, you're premed postmed. Okay. That bad information. So I was wrong on terrible. So I'm glad that that's better news. But here's the still sobering reality, which you and every commander fan is living is that is this season is the season is breads can fan that this season is almost certainly now doomed. I hate to say that, but you know that it's almost certainly doomed. He's going to miss a huge chunk. There's probably little confidence that even if he braces it up, that'll be as effective as he needs to be for a team that is still trying to find its legs in terms of who they are. I mean, Kurt Warner is like, well, I played through a brace and I'm like, yeah, but you just stood back there and through dimes. He's got to run around. That's his game. It's hard to run around. It's hard to run around based on. So I definitely think, I definitely think the odds are in favor of what you're describing. With that said, and I'm not saying this is the right answer if it actually plays out

1:05:51this way, but I have a feeling he's going to be in a brace much sooner than most people. I don't have information. It's just a gut. And I'm talking about he misses Seattle. He misses the London game against Indy and he's back against the Giants in two weeks from Sunday with a brace. I think that that's how this is going to play out that he's going to come back. Now as far as the season being doomed, it's doomed when you lose your best player for the majority of the season and your best players a quarterback witness last year. They had no shot without him playing. But if he were to come back and there's still 11, 12 games left in the season and they can steal one of these next two or three, maybe two of the next three. They've got Indy and the Giants over the next three. Yes, but here's my biggest concern. By the way, they caught a huge break with both. They're going to catch Drew Locke on Sunday and then they're going to catch whoever's

1:06:52going to be in at quarterback for the Giants instead of Jackson Dart. So that's a nice little break there. Yeah, I mean, Locke's playing pretty well right now and Seattle's really, really good. But yes, it's a break. But yeah, I mean, well, here's the other. You know what I think about this NFL. It's impossible to predict. It's weak to weak. Here's the other thing that is a complicating factor. After this year, he'll have a chance to get paid, right? So after another, another layer, we'd be doing hours upon hours. And you know, it's like, do you really want to pay him $60 million a year when he hasn't been on the field for most of two or three seasons? And the end of it. Well, yeah, and the answer is you're going to have to because the cost of not having Jaden Daniels is the real price. And that's all you need to focus on. That's why the book and years paid Baker Mayfield. It wasn't that he really thought that they thought he was worth the $60 million. They're like, not having him is worth $60 million because we're our seasons over if we don't

1:07:52have Baker Mayfield over. It's really the best way to put it. It's the cost of not having a quarterback versus the possibility of having one. And we as skins fans know that it was 33 years before we actually got a legitimate franchise quarterback. And in his first year, they were in the championship game after 33 years of being in the, you know, the desert of lost quarterbacks or night. All right. Let's get to some juicy lines. And then we'll put a wrap on this little crossover segment. Always good to talk to you, my friend. Let's start, shall we, in college? Give me a juicy line or two without cannibalizing your own patented smith. Meltest picks that you give out on your full podcast. Well, the smell test comes out tomorrow. And it's off to a pretty solid start. So Ole Miss had that emotional win on Saturday night against LSU. They're going to the swamp and Florida's favored over Ole Miss by three.

1:08:54And I would be very shocked if I don't have Florida in the smell test tomorrow. Laying the three with the public pretty much lined up on Ole Miss. And earlier than that, Arch and Texas going to Knoxville catching four after they knocked off and came back against Ohio State. And it looks like the world's going to be on Texas, which you know what that means for me. I'll be on the other side. I'll be on the side that my good friends at my bookie will need. That's right. That's the side I'll be on. Was it some role, the coach for Florida, who said must be some good drugs out there for them to be favored against Ole Miss? Yeah. Okay, but it's a massive life. It's a big comfort. Like this is, if you believe in the emotional letdown as a concept, especially with horny 1819 or in the case of Trinidad Chambers, 24-year-olds, if you believe in the big emotional come down, this is the mother of all emotional come down spots. So I can understand why the number is actually on Florida.

1:09:57So there's that. Give me what you like Sunday. Were you looking at Saturday right now? Well, okay. It's hard. The juiciest game to try to handicap to me is Oregon at USC. Both teams have had massively disappointing outcomes so far this year. USC's outcome was a win last week by letting Rutgers run all over them and score a ton of points. Rutgers ran a fake punt as you saw at their own like 19 yard line early in the game. Rutgers all the way out there at LA. So even though USC won the game and they're 4-0, I think it's been a little bit disappointing for them this year. Oregon obviously having lost to Oklahoma State and then they took it out on poor Portland State. This is an interesting juicy game. Oregon is minus three at USC. I think I'm going to have to ride with the Trojans in this one for a snapback from a

1:10:57disappointing game against Rutgers. So I will fight on with my niece and her Alma Mater USC. Now let's go to Sunday. Juicy games on Sunday. Point spread wise. Well the game that just says everything you need to know about the NFL week to week is nobody thinks the chargers have a chance at Buffalo. And I'm talking about outright. They're getting six and a half seven. Buffalo is, you know, in every power ranking the number one team or the number two team. And the charger season is over after losing back to back 26 to 14 finals. They both games were lost by the exact same wear to score 26 to 14. So of course I like the chargers to bounce back in this spot cover. I actually like them to win the game outright. Okay. I'm going to do a big juicy game and I hate to do it because you and I are both Kirk jerks. And I'm sorry I didn't include you in the video with charge on my, uh, my Twitter feed about Kirk getting off to a two and a start with the Raiders.

1:11:59You are one of the original Kirk jerks with me and charge and others. But I don't know if you, I don't know if you were actually part of that early group, but but we'll just, we'll rewrite history if you want. Whatever. I became a Kirk jerk. He won me over obviously through his grinding ways. As much as I like Kirk, the Raiders have no business being two and a. Going on the road at New Orleans, I'm taking New Orleans minus three as one of my juicy ones. They don't think don't blank. Just don't make it complicated. The Raiders shouldn't be two and a, uh, they're not going to cover three points on the road, giving the Saints minus and that one. And as always, what do we tell people?
