In the twin thing of an eye, a career can come and go in Major League Baseball, and I always thought that what had to be a traumatic moment for you was that day at Jerry Park in Montreal when you were out there on the mound and started to pitch and something happened, and you walked off that mound. I always thought you really didn't know what the future had from that moment on. I think it was the lowest point in my career too as far as how I felt mentally. I, you know, I threw the pitch. It was two hours and a fifth inning, two strikes on John Bateman.

I was going to bust him inside of the fastball, which I did, and my arm just went numb, and I forced around the mound, picking up the rods and bag, and just my calf trying to get some circulation or nerve work done in my arm, and nothing happened, and I've been getting away too much time, and finally, Hodges came out there, figured there was something wrong, and I told him I was on a stand, and he said, you know, my arm's numb, I think if it's just way little, it'll be all right. He said, no, you're going, you're going to bring somebody else in. It's moving back to New York, Dr. Lamont, checking me out, couldn't find nothing wrong. Everything felt great. I met the club in Chicago the next day, which was my second day to throw, and I couldn't get the ball to home play, it hurt so bad. Tears come to my eyes, and I thought my career was over with, and I just felt, five years in the deepest hole I'd ever been in, and I just seen this, and he told me that night just to go out and loosen up, which is what I did, but it took about a month to finally work out a big knot I had in my shoulder when they did that,

and everything was fine again. That may be the only case in which a manager ever had to tell, Jerry, because there's no going to go out and loosen up. We'll continue with this interview from the Meddda Godden just a moment. If you're in the market for a newer used car, you know you're going to shop around, because you know a lot of dealers are selling the same car at different prices with different options. As you ever think it was the same way with auto loans, there are lots of banks out there with auto loans, but they've got different price tags and different options too. You can shop around all you want for an auto loan, but manufacturers handover can save you a lot of time and money. It's as simple as that. Looking for options, here's a beauty. If you have both the checking and savings account with them, manufacturers handover will automatically deduct a quarter percent off your loan rate. Let them deduct your loan payments from your checking account, and you'll save another quarter percent on top of that. All auto loans aren't the same. All banks aren't the same either. Manufacturers handover makes more auto loans than any major bank in town. After all, they don't make any money turning people down. And manufacturers handover is banking the way you want it to be. Remember FDIC, equal opportunity lender. We're in the Medddaug out talking to Jerry Kuzman,

who was yesterday's winner on opening day, 3-1 victory for Jerry. He's just been talking about the lowest point in his career. When he heard his arm in Montreal, let's talk about some of the real high points now. You won 21 games here before last. Well, that was definitely a personal high point in my career. I think 69 still thrives above that, but 76 personally was really a lot of fun. I'd seen Seever win 20 games, seen him elated, and had him try to tell me how much fun it was, and just the great feeling you had. But you don't really understand what type of feeling it is until you do it yourself. And I remember that night after the game, I said, now I finally realized how you feel. And there's no way you can explain if anybody else here only you know. And it was something just like that. You just can't explain it. And then last year, you were 20 game loser. How does that feel? Well, that was very depressing. I, you know, it hurts your pride, your embarrassed. You know you're a better pitcher than that. Your arm isn't hurting.

You feel good physically. You're out there throwing the ball, and I felt that through the ball. It's good as I did the year before. I probably wasn't in some of the games mentally the way I should have been. I think I should have won a few more. Constraint a little bit harder. But though, you know, a pitcher's statistics represents the type of ballcubby has behind them a lot. Because year before when I won 21, these guys played tremendous ball behind me. They hit one, they needed the hit, they made the plays and they had to make the plays. And 77, it was just kind of the opposite. They didn't make the plays. They didn't hit one, they had to hit. And of course, nine guys have to do that, including myself. And it was one of those years. It was embarrassing. You know you're better than that than it does hurt your pride. Mass you one final question. Many of us in professions get along to point, we wish maybe we'd gone into something else and we think, gee, I could have been this or that. You enjoy your profession as a professional baseball player. You know, I thought many times just what you're talking about. There's a lot of times of grass looks greener and the other side of the fence and it really doesn't make any difference what you're doing. I thought last year I'd be getting the thing heavily.

Gosh, you know, there's many other ways of making a living and being with your family a little more rather than traveling all around the United States. But this year I'm saying I'm looking forward to playing baseball another five years. I enjoy it. I enjoy walking out in that mound every day. I don't think I've ever walked out there and said, hey, I'm on happy. I'd like to be doing something else. As far as pitching the game, I love it. There's other aspects of the game to traveling, like I said. And a couple other things that probably are the most glamorous. But when you walk on that hill, it's always fun. Jerry Kuzman, thank you very much. Thank you, Lyndy. And for appearing on our pre-game show, we'd like to present Jerry Kuzman with an invitation from Rusty's store to enjoy dinner for two at Rusty's restaurant on the corner of 73rd Street and Third Avenue. A restaurant featuring fine food and service and the home of Rusty's barbecued Canadian baby back ribs. This has been the Metz pre-game show brought to you by Manufacturers Hanover.

All right, Bob Murphy and for the New York Mets, the lead-off battle of a Lenny Randall playing third base, batting second, shortstop Tim Foley, batting third, left-fielder Steve Henderson, fourth batter, first baseman Willie Martinez, batting fifth, the right-fielder Ken Henderson, batting sixth and catching John Stern, seventh batter, a center-fielder Lee Mozilla, batting eighth, second baseman Doug Plim, and the pitcher, Nino Espanosa, batting in the ninth position.

Well, the Montreal expose, the lead-off battle will be Ellis Valentine, the right-fielder, batting second, second baseman Dave Cash, batting third, center-fielder Andre Dawson, batting fourth and catching Gary Carter. Fifth batter will be the first baseman Tony Parris, batting sixth, left-fielder Dale Lancer, batting seventh, twenty-third-base Wayne Garrett, batting eighth, shortstop Chris Fyer, and the pitcher Rudy May, batting in the ninth position. The umpires for the game today, Jerry Dale behind home plate, John McSherry, the umpire at first-base, Paul Wungey, the umpire at second, and Bob Engel, the umpire at third. Taking the scores of yesterday's ball games, the match defeated Montreal three to one, Pittsburgh, behind John Candolaria, shut out, the Chicago Cubs won nothing. And Eagle Beach San Francisco three to two, the Dodgers battered Atlanta by a score of thirteen to four, Cincinnati defeated Houston five to four, and the Cardinals beat Philadelphia five to one. In the American League Detroit, top Toronto 62, Whitestocks over Boston

six to five, Milwaukee, Toppo Baltimore eleven to three, California Edge, Oakland won nothing, and Seattle beat Minnesota by a score of sixty three. Metz, in a tie for first place for the record of one and all, tied to the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia, Montreal and Chicago all on one. In the Western Division, the Cincinnati Reds played with the record of two and all, the Dodgers have a record of one and all as San Diego. Atlanta, all on one, San Francisco, all on one, and Houston, all on two. In the American League, Milwaukee, and Detroit, one and all, Toronto, Baltimore and Boston, all on one, in the Western Division, California, one and all, Whitestocks, one and all, Seattle two and one, Minnesota one and two, Kansas City has not played, they're scheduled to play the Yankees today, Texas has not played, and Oakland all on one.

It's all the sun breaking through the overcast, we've had off and on sunlight here at J Stadium, one boy now from right field to left field and the New York Metz takes the field. New York Metz taking the field and the Umpire is taking their stations. And from J Stadium, our National Athletics. Also the National Anthem of Canada.

The National Anthem of Canada and the United States and the Metz getting set for their second game, with the Montreal Exposed. In the International Play, I believe we mentioned that the Yankees are playing Kansas City today and their first game, actually it's against the Texas Ranger. Well, tomorrow, a big day here at J Stadium, a double header scheduled. Metz has scheduled their pitching to have Pat Zachary and Mike Brewer on the mound. Montreal with Wayne Twitchell and Ross Grimsley, scheduled the pitch. And it'll be a special day here at J Natility Bag Day. Everyone who buys a ticket to 10 Sunday double header will receive a large blue and white vinyl utility bag. These are the same bags that were originally scheduled to be given the way on

last year's fan appreciation day. And that game reigns out to the Metz have scheduled it for tomorrow, utility bag day. After Montreal leaves town, that Chicago cups come in for three games. They'll be playing Monday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. All those games will be Senior Citizens Days. And all you see in your citizens, 60 years of age and over will be admitted to the ballpark for a 50 cent service charge. Game time, 205 for the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday day games with the Chicago cups. First night game for the Metz will be in their next home stand. Parable Pittsburgh Pirates will be coming in. They're known as the Thunder and Lightning Group. They'll be playing on Monday, night to 24th, Tuesday, night to 25th, and Wednesday, night to 26. And the Mayor of trophy game set for April 27th with the New York Yankees. And then the Cincinnati Reds. For a weekend, series Friday night to 28th, Saturday afternoon, the 29th and Sunday afternoon,

the 30th. So the next home stand, two tough ball clubs, two interesting ball clubs, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds. Right now it's a Montreal expose and here for the play by a play, Bob Murphy. Thank you very much Ralph Keiner and hi everybody. Nino Esponosa making his first start of an easy season. 10 game winner last year into his wind up the pitch. Had a foul ball off the Battle of Ellis Valentine, the right filter. It comes back on the screen and out of play. One of the significant changes in the Montreal baddie go to this year. As seen manager Dick Williams, a move Ellis Valentine from a power slot to the lead off rule. Valentine, a consistent hitter with good power. Right hand batter in the pitch by Nino line drive into short right of base. So Valentine has opened the ball game with a single off the end of the bat in the short right field. Valentine was held in check in yesterday's game by jury Kusman. So a lead off single by Valentine and it brings up second baseman David Cash.

Cash a seven year veteran got off to a good start at yesterday's game, getting two hits and four jams at bat. Dave Cash right hand batter. Front of first by Nino Esponosa is done in time. The game time temperature here is J is 49 degrees. Partly cloudy skies at the moment bright sunshine. And the pitch on the way. Ground ball to four second plan has it to fully for one onto first double play. Doug Flynn the man with the lightning hands starting the double play. Feeling the ground ball and throwing it to Tim fully. Throw the mess of turn there first double play of the new year. And the batter will be Andre Dawson the center fielder. Dawson coming off of a strong rookie season that saw him. When National League rookie honors Dawson is a right hand batter.

He went over four in yesterday's opening ball game. Esponosa's pitch on the way breaking ball outside. It's ball what in the second period. But now saw Coliseum the Islanders lead that he are. Rangers five to nothing. Swing animals. Islander victory and they will clinch the Patrick division championship. And the Islanders lead the Rangers five nothing. Here's the second period. He knows Esponosa with a kind of one ball one strike. The pitch to Dawson inside ball two. It's two and one in the infield for Joe Tories team. Willie Montignas at first base. Doug Flynn playing second. Tim fully is short and linear. And all is a third. John Sterns provides the target. Slider just outside three and one. If the Othell Steve Henderson in left Lee Mozilla in center. And Kim Henderson is around it right. Norm Sherry on the coaching lines. A third for Montreal. And former American League infielder Billy Gardner coaches first.

And it just missed the outside corner. So check on the count. I believe that should be ball four and it is Dawson did not realize that he was still staying at the plate. You know Esponosa has walked Andre Dawson. And it will bring up Gary Carter. Gary Carter. Carter a young ball player with great talent. If 31 home runs last year he and Johnny benched both at 31. They led the Nash to lead catchers at home runs. Carter had a home run off Jerry Kus. But it's not a big deal. And he's not going to be a big deal. And he's not going to be a big deal. Carter had a home run off Jerry Kus. But in yesterday's game for the lone Montreal run. When does Gusty? There goes the runner. Here's the pitch low. The throw by Stern's the slag stolen base. Dawson getting a good jump on Esponosa. Stern's made a good throw but simply not in damn. He's still that one off the pitcher. So Andre Dawson has stolen the ball.

And he's not going to be a big deal. So Andre Dawson has stolen second to go in the scoring position. One ball and no strikes to Gary Carter. Carter two for four including a home run in yesterday's 31 win by the New York Metz. Time call by John Stern's. Stern's walking out to the mound to see Nino Esponosa. The veteran Tony Perez waiting on deck. Last year Gary Carter had 284. He had 31 homers and 84 runs batted in. It was his best year by far and it was the first year. The Carter has played for Montreal that he has been able to play the whole year without being hurt. Two outs and one on were just underway at Chase Stadium. Hope you're going to join us. Now the pitch at a high pop up down the left field land.

And could be hard to get to. Holy near the line is under it. The wind blows it. He comes back and makes the catch. Well the wind will be a little tough. But when he's toward right field at the moment, it was caught in paratory by Tim Foley. He ran all the way to the line that had to retreat into paratory. No runs, one hit on the man left. In the middle of any one at Shay, the ex-post. Nothing the Metz are coming up. If you buy unleaded gasoline, you may have noticed that lead isn't the only thing missing. It's probably pretty low on performance too. That's because most unleaded just don't have a high enough octane rating to give you the performance you want. The performance you used to get from your regular. In fact, according to standards set by the American Society for testing in materials, the people who set gasoline standards used by the federal and state governments, very few unleaded gasoline have high enough octane to be called regular. To help you choose between them, one usually sells for less. Getty.

Getty unleaded regular gives you the team running engine you expect from an unleaded. Plus the octane performance you want. And you pay less than you would for most other major unleaded. Now think a minute. Why settle for an unleaded gasoline that's below regular when you can get one that's regular? Getty unleaded regular. Once again, we've got what's best for your car. The Montreal X-Bus have veteran left-hander, Rudy May, of the Mount Hear this afternoon. Last year was the best of his major league career. He won 18 with a Baltimore Orioles. Montreal made a trade with Baltimore this past winter. The Orioles sent Don Stanhausen, Joe Kerrigan, and after their Gary Reneky to a Baltimore to get left-hander, Rudy May. The acquisitions of Rudy May and Ross Grimsley, the X-Bus, we all will make them contenders.

May was outstanding this spring. The centrist thing in each of his last four years, he has gotten better. Four years ago, he was 14 and 12. Then 15 and 10 and 18 and 14. The year prior to that 14 and 12, you already been 8 and 5. So Rudy May has had four straight, one of years. Lifetime record, 100 and 6 wins and 116 losses. Rudy Randall leading off for the New York Mets, let him over for four in yesterday's opener. Kim Foley on deck and then Steve Henderson. Rudy May into his motion and the left-hander's first delivery inside and low. Let him Randall had to jump back from the plate. In the infield for the X-Bus, Tony Perez playing first. Dave Cash's second crisp-spired short, Wayne Garrett is playing third. Inside of the knees, ball two. Another X-Bet, Dell Inser is in left field.

Andre Dawson in center and Ellis Valentine is around and right. The catcher is Gary Carter, the two-oh delivery, a little bit high ball three. Forty-ork, Dell Maxville coaching third and the D-Summers coaching first. Frio delivery. Inside ball four, Randall walks in four pitches. Gary Carter walks the ball back out. And it will bring to the plate 10-Fully, 10-Win-Ofer four. Had a very good day in the field yesterday and the free to one went. Tim Fully, absent from New York the last six years. Back home with the ball club he signed with first. How Rudy Mayer looked toward first. Had a strength called on the outside corner. Steve Henderson, that's third. He'll be next. Denk Lena, batter, Willie, a mountaineer.

A lot of Major League Baseball today and will keep you right on top of all the scores. Rudy Mayer works from the stretch. Breaking ball a strike on the outside corner. Good looking pitch by Rudy Mayer. Only one night-nash-delayed game that will be the Cardinals and Phillies in Philadelphia. The Cardinals with 20-game winner Bob Borch being successful. The feet of the Phillies five to one. The two-strike delivery is popped up outside first base. Tony Parris goes over on the warning track and has room makes the catch. In the Nash-delayed today, the Chicago Cubs are playing in Pittsburgh. Yesterday's opener with perfect weather in Pittsburgh. 20-game winner John Candleari, he'll be 20-game winner Rick Russell by the score of one to nothing.

Fendi-Aggle being San Francisco. The Padres came from behind to defeat the Giants yesterday and spoiled the Giant home opener. And they used him. Thirty-nine-year-old Gamelard Perry, thirty-eight-year-old Mickey Lohits and thirty-six-year-old Raleigh Fingers to do it. And they say this is a young man's game. Steve Henderson standing at, I guess, Rudy Mayer. Throw the first done in time, Randall getting back. Randall, of course, is always a threat to steal a base. He set a Mets Club record with thirty-three still in bases last year. Remember, if he steals, he'll be trying to do so against a better Randall Fender. Steve Henderson won for three at yesterday's game and runs scored. Here's the pitch on the way. Strength called, at the knees on the outside corner. A double header here is Shade tomorrow. Pad Zachary will pitch the first game and Mike Brewer in the second, where Mike it will be his major league debut.

Tony Perez holding, I guess, let me Randall. Rudy Mayer looks over and now delivers. And a foul fly. Well, hit down the right field line and going out of play. Second period now, it is the Islander 6 and the Rangers nothing. So it'll be a happy day for the Islanders. They'll be celebrating their first ever Patrick Division crowd. Rudy Mayer with a two-strike cut on Young Steve Henderson. Steve at 297 in last year is first season in the National League. Here's the pitch on the way. Breaking ball just this. He had Henderson full with that. For a young hitter, a veteran pitcher like Rudy Mayer can be very baffling. One out and one on were in the bottom half of the first inning with no score. Well, he Montenegro is undecided. Now the pitch on the way just missed the outside corner.

Rudy May does not give you any good pitches to hit. Well, he Montenegro is going to be Joe Torrey's clean up better day in and day out, I guess, right-handers and left-handers. Montenegro is a left-hand hitter. Now as Randall thinks he's lead, the count is two and two. He's running. Here's the pitch foul ball back toward the dugout. Randall is on his way. I'm on the count two and two. And the ball and the strike zone Henderson had to go for it. Dick Williams, the Montreal manager, has dominated a left-hander and a right-hander in the double-header tomorrow. The right-hander is Wayne Twitchle. And the left-hander is newcomer Ross Grimsley. Grimsley has pitched against him that's before, but he was playing and playing very well for Cincinnati. Randall leading away. Two-two delivery, Randall goes and he may get hung up through the first base.

And Randall's safe. He drove back in and tagged the bag with his hand and avoided the double-play. Randall started, but he got a lead start and saw when Henderson struck out. He came racing back to the bag and it took quite an acrobatic maneuver to get him there. Rudy May has struck out Steve Henderson. With two-minute away and a runner on first William Montignas coming up, Willie had won for four. He had the honor of getting the first to match base out of the new season. A double down the left field and on Steve Rogers. Left-hander, a guess-left-hander. Had a ground ball hit hard, taken by Tony Perez, he steps on the bag and the side retired. So Montignas pull the ball, hit it sharply. But right-to veteran first-placeman Tony Perez. No runs, no hits on a man left. At the end of one inning, it changed stadium. Montreal, nothing at New York nothing.

It's here. The new Dotson 510 station wagon with room for everything. Except in two minutes. The new Dotson 510 wagon is big car comfortable. Roking-level ventilation, side window deep fogger. Power, front disc brakes and room go more. Yet the Dotson 510 wagon is small where it counts. Nimbled steering, compact style. Had a Dotson price that saved. The perfectly sized new 510 wagon. Bigger than the small ones. Smaller than the big ones. How did we do it? Hey, we are Datsun. We are driven. Nobody's a man, or from a Datsun. Or a Datsun. We are driven. Come see the all new Datsun 510. That's your nearby Datsun dealer. Now.

In the night still exists this afternoon. The Sussanatti Reds lead Houston to the one. George Foster, the home run champion, has got his second of the year. He hit one last night. The Reds 2 and the Astros 1 and the 3rd, Joaquin and Doherr and Freddie Norman are the fixtures. The Dodgers lead Atlanta 1-0 at the end of 3, Tommy John against Dick Ruthford. Tony Perez takes a letter high at basketball and a strength call. Last night the Dodgers spoil. The Braves home opener blasting the Atlanta Braves 13-4. Don Sutton was the winning pitcher. And the pitch by Nino. Good-hard slider on the outside corner, strength 2. Telling out of the Cubs and parrots in Kutsburg or the Padres in Giants in San Francisco. One night game in the National League. The Cardinals played Philadelphia. Two-strike delivery, swinging out of the air. He struck him out. F-Pinosa on three pitches.

Bands, Tony Perez. Now, X-Pet Dell, answer coming up. But Montreal last year, Dell hit 273. Played in 113 ball games. Well, the Almerson 40 runs bad at it. The regular left fielder Warren from Marty has a hamstring pull. Dick Williams said before the ball game he felt from Marty. Would be ready to deny it against the Phillies in Philadelphia. Nino, aside to get, here's the pitch to answer. It's high on a lay ball. The Yankees have their opener later this afternoon against the Rangers in Texas. Rod Gidry and John Matalack will be the pitchers. The one-o delivery, just a little bit outside ball. Two-two-balls, no strikes. Toronto Blue Jays are in Detroit. That'll be Jerry Garvin and Jim Slayton. Mark the bird, Pidry's delighted to be in Detroit crowd yesterday by beating Toronto. High outside ball three.

Esponosa getting behind on Dell, answer 3 and 0. The Red Sacks play in Chicago. Dennis Eckersley, I guess, Francisco Burials. Both pitchers won 14 games last year. Straight call is 3 and 1. He whipped it in the high. The White Sacks came from behind to win in the ninth inning over the Red Sacks yesterday. Kansas City plays in Cleveland. Dennis Leonard and Wayne Garland are the pitchers. Leonard was a 20-game winner last year. Garland almost a 20-game loser. Ball ball coming back upstairs, no play. Wayne Garland, who signed that huge contract with Cleveland, lost 19 ball games. Baltimore will be in Milwaukee. Minnesota, a night game of Seattle. Oakland playing a night game at California. They played last night Frank Tannenna shut him out, California won 1-0. At a high fly over toward the left field line, moving over his center, sonny Zundra, and he hasn't for the eye. Let's pause for station identification.

This is the New York Met Space Ball Network. You know, anytime is the right time for Budweiser, give it a try the next time you and your friends have a night on the town. If you're looking for great taste Budweiser is ready when you are. WNCA, New York. Bob Murphy with Ralph Keiner and Lindsay Nuss. Two outs to nobody on, no score top of the second, and Wayne Garrett bats against his old teammates. Change up by Espinoza over for a strength call. Wayne was having a good year with the expose last summer when he was heard in early August. Basketball high, one ball and one strike. He was heard in early August and did not play the remainder of the year. The one won delivery by Espinoza, high outside ball two to and one. Nino won 10 and lost 13 with a mess last year, and he was the only met-spitter to win a game in Philadelphia. He beat the Phillies one nothing. The two won delivery curve inside ball three three and one. So Nino working behind the hitters successfully so far in the sunny.

That's playing Garrett as a full hitter around the right and a line drive over a second into center field at Bayes-Hit. So Garrett jumping onto three one pass ball has single to center. The second Montreal Bayes-Hit. And a young veteran shortstop Chris Spire comes up. Spire was a much better hitter earlier in his career with a chance, but he has been the last three years. Last year he wound up hitting 234. Chris is a right-hand better. Spire won for three and just for his game, single his first time up. Jerry Kusman fits the remarkable opening day ball game. He retired 17 of the last 18 batters in the last 12 in a row. The only Montreal based runner over the last five was Gary Carter who hit a homerun.

Down Nino Espinoza from the stretch triggers a pass ball high one ball and no stretch. Double header tomorrow the met's in the expose. And then three after an in ball game is on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday here at Shay against the Chicago Cuts. Cubs are in Pittsburgh right now. Low outside and again Espinoza is behind the hitter. Pitchers do not like to be consistently behind the hitters. It puts a lot of pressure on them. The one thing Kusman did so well in yesterday's ball game he stayed ahead of the hitters. The two-o delivery at a foul ball off to the right bearing over into the stands. Two balls and one strike on Chris Spire the shortstop batting eighth in the batting order. Lee Mozilla you kind of bouncing around in the outfield trying to keep warm. It's a little bit cool about 49 degrees.

The two one delivery missing high ball free so Espinoza behind on Spire three and one. Pitcher Rudy May is the undecbatter three one delivery straight call on the outside corner. That was close and now it is three and two two men away Wayne Garrett the runner on first will be moving with the pitch. An automatic hitter run situation there goes Garrett here's the pitch ground ball through the middle in the center field of base it. So Garrett who was running will go from first to third and the expose have runners on first and third. Rudy May has been playing in the American leg where the pitchers do not come to bat and we really do not have any idea whether he's a good hitting pitcher or not.

This might very well be the first time he's been to batten about four years in a league game. Runners on first and third Rudy May left handed all the way he'll be batting left against Dino Espinoza. Now I mean you know with runners of the corners at a fastball over strength one call and base it by Spire was not yet hard but he bounced it right through the middle. Next delivery swing at a foul tip in the count strike two on Rudy May. Now Espinoza will be trying hard to strike him out. Dino will average about four maybe five strikeouts again. He plays him to hit the ball to the opposite field and the pitch on the way a little bit low one ball in two strikes.

The New York Islanders are having a very enjoyable afternoon at the Coliseum. In the second period they lead the New York Rangers seven to nothing. Fitching one and two off the outside corner to lost his strengths. Dino has struggled with his control in the sunny. The two two delivery swing on a mercy struck him out. He just reached back and threw smoke and struck him out with a fastball. Second strikeout for Dino. No runs to hit some two left. At the end of it anything in a half. Montréal nothing in New York nothing. What's the big idea? Oh big idea is the Astoria idea. And I did decide to come through with many happy returns for you. Astoria Federal has some big ideas for you.

Like six year savings certificates with an effective annual yield of 8.17%. The most the law allows. Four year certificate yields 7.9%. Two and a half years 7.08%. And there are big ideas in 90 day and one year accounts. The law and time deposits requires a penalty on withdrawal before maturity. So Astoria has another big idea. Ready cash savings for your everyday needs. Big ideas that's Astoria Federal. And I did decide to come through with many happy returns for you. The Astoria Federal. The Home Second Uniting here at J. St. Y. It is the second game of 1978 season. So Torrey was very happy with the crisp performance by the New York Mets and Her opening game yesterday. Torrey believes that a vastly improved infield defense as well as an out-of-the-field defense.

It will be a big hop to the pitching staff. And if the pitching will probably be better than most of the experts have said. Time will certainly tell. Which other Ken Henderson will lead off against Rudy May? Ken will bat right-handed against Rudy May. Here's two 11 year veterans against each other. May, Indo East lined up in the pitch. And a breaking ball at the knee is St. Winkel. John Sterns on deck and then Lee Mozilla. And a fly ball will hit the right field but playable moving toward the land. Let's fall in time. And he makes the catch one away. One change in the Mets batting order today. John Sterns moved ahead of Lee Mozilla with Montreal pitching a left-hander. So now Sterns will take his turn in back. John had one for two and a walk in a stolen base in the ball game yesterday.

The double-headed of Miles will probably see Ryan Hatches in one game. His disturbance hided away, ball-what? Sterns for the good eye at the plate. He'll look pitches over very carefully. And he doesn't help a pitcher out very often by going for a bad delivery. I and outside ball, two to balls, no strikes. Well, some cloud cover and the sun is in and then it's out right now. It's out at a high fly hit down the left field line toward the seats. And it's going into the seats out of play. Dell uncertain came all the way to the railing but had no play. In the game today in Pittsburgh, Ray Burris for the Chicago Cubs. And Bert Blylon, who were all for the Rangers last year, is on for the Pirates, no score after one inning. Pirates feel with Blylon to go with Candle area. They have quite a pitching step. Off the outside corner, two in one.

Three in one, do you, Fr. Duh? The Reds two in the Astros, one at the end of four. And the Dodgers one, the Braves, nothing at the end of three. Pitching three in one. Well hit but fouled on the left field line and back into the seats. One out of nobody on, we're in the second inning of Chase Stadium. Margin baseball comes up very quickly, a double-hitter tomorrow here at Chase Stadium. Three two deliveries, strike three call. Sterns was guessing fastball, he got a curveball. Second strike out for Rudy May, and the hitter will be Lee Mazzulli. We had two for four, and a long double to drive in a run in yesterday's three to one win. Mazzulli hit a right handed against veteran Rudy May. For the Orioles last year, Rudy May won 18 and lost 14.

The 33 year old F-Cender fires a fastball, and away ball, what? He walked the first batter, linear endel in the first inning, but since then, it's retired five in a row. So it looks like he's going to be a tough pitcher to beat. The one who delivered it had a foul out down the right field line, burying now over into the grandstand. One ball, one strike, to Lee Mazzulli. Second baseball and Doug Flynn will be up next. One two. Montreal in field is Tony Perez, Dave Cash, Chris Faire, and Wayne Garrett. Del answer Andre Dawson and Ellis Valentine of the outfield, Gary Carter is the catcher. Mazzulli swings and it's a high fly to center field, easing back Andre Dawson, and he has it for the out. Hit the straightaway center field. No runs, Dawson, none left. At the end of two innings at Shay, no score.

It will be the third inning here at Chase Stadium, and here's a fellow who always gives you a good call. Ball game, Ralph Kane. Thank you, Bob Murphy, and hi everyone. Exposed no run, three hits, semets have not had a base hit, and Eno Esponosa sent the fifths to Ellis Valentine for the second time. Valentine after going all for four was three strikeouts, and yesterday's ballgame against Jerry Kuzman, single the first time up the single the right field. So Valentine who batted 3-13 last year has his first hit this year, he's now one for five, adding 200. Valentine a strong right hand batter. Straight away hitter, the Metz claim that way. And Esponosa's first pitch, a line drive to center field, and Valentine 2 for 2. Fall fielded by Lima's early and Valentine rounds at first base and holds there.

Other bring up Dave Kacz. Dave saw one pitch his first time up and hit a ground ball into a double play. Kacz was two for four yesterday, so he's now two for five. Last season he batted 289. And Esponosa working from the set position. Go to first base, Valentine back easily. Valentine a good base runner, he had 25 stolen bases in the 77 season. He has it all. And the pitch to the plate is taken low, cash out in bunny position, taking the pitch for ball one. Valentine has one of the best arms in base ball, he threw out Steve Henderson who can fly, trying to score in a single, from second base, a single by Lee Mizzoli, and yesterday's ballgame. There goes Valentine, the pitch is swung on a miss, the throw by Stern is a good one, but it is a safe call by second base on par, Paul Rungy, and the Metz go like that call.

Not play to receive the throw, arguing with Paul Rungy about the call, but it goes as a stolen base. Second steal in the game for the exposes their first game when Dawson stole in the first inning with Juman Alc. This time the stolen base coming with no one out. One ball, one strike. And the pitch, slider that is just outside, two in one. Cash did not have any home runs last year, he drove in 43, right hand batter, bats from a closed stance. And he bounces one right back to the mound, Espanosa takes the one hopper, looks to runner back at second base, throws the first base for the out. So Cash is unable to advance the runner at second base, and with one man out the batter will be Andre Dawson. Dawson walked and stole second in the first inning, but was left there.

Dawson 0 for 4 so far this year, about a 2-82 last season and was the rookie of the year, had 19 home runs, 65 RBI, right hand batter, again the score. And the next one is the match playing straight away. There's only a shallow center field, and here's the pitch. Slider back, again back to Espanosa, he has a run of traffic green third in second. Randall has it and now makes the tag. And Valentine is the race. Good play by Eno Espanosa. Check the one hopper, look to second base to see where the runner was and Valentine was moving towards third. The throw went over to Randall at third base, and Randall running the runner back towards second made the tag. So the Expo's loser runner in scoring position have won now at first base and the batter will be Gary Carter. Dawson reaching first base on the fielders choice.

Carter right hand batter, outstanding par, and the first pitch, one on a miss strike one. Carter hit a high towering pop up to his god by the shortstop, Tim Fulby's first time up. Yesterday's ball game, Carter had a double and a home run. Last year he had 31 home runs and tied Johnny Bench for the most home runs by a catcher in the national league. One strike out, throw the first base and Dawson dies back in safely. Carter out of the batter's box now gets back in. Eno Lienz over reads the science goes to the set position. And here's the pitch and it's a pitch out, but nothing on. One ball and one strike. Again Espanosa to the set position and again a pitch out and again nothing on.

Two balls and one strike, two pitch outs in the row called by John Sterns. Dawson had 21 stolen bases last season. Now he picks a guy and a curve ball is going outside ball three, three balls and one strike. Once again Dawson running and the pitch is a call strike the throw is in the dirt and Dawson has his second stolen base of the ball game. Andre Dawson beating the throw this time and the throw had to be handled out of the dirt by Doug Plint and he just knocked it down. So once again the expose with the runner in scoring position no score two men out top of the third and Espanosa's pitch. It is outside in Carter walk. Carter takes off for first base on the walk as does Pete Rose.

He tears down there. So now runners that first and second and two men out and the batter coming up as Tony Parris. Tony was struck out on three pitches his first time up. So again as he has an every any Nespinoe so working under pressure with runners on base and the pitch to Ferrez is taking low breaking ball down just about on the outside corner but below the knees for ball one. And the pitch back is fouled back into the stands out of play one ball one strike. Ferrez has been the top run battered in man over the last 11 years in the entire major leagues. He has driven in more runs than any active player. So he is a tough man in the club one ball and one strike.

Now the pitch by Espanosa checks wing foul ball on a good pitch. All fouled into stands and shot by a young midfair. Ferrez has driven in 90 or more runs in the 11 consecutive seasons. The record is 13 held by Stan Musil. One into the count Espanosa sets the work here's the pitch pass ball high and tight. So the count now two balls and two strike. Turning point of yesterday's ball game was in the first any win. Ferrez was struck out by Jerry Kuzman with runners on base. That's winning three to one. Now the pitch again the high side pass ball. So the count goes to three and two and the two men out the runners will be moving with the pitch. Yesterday's ball game. Montreal had runners that second and third and two men out when Kuzman struck out.

Runners go and the three to pitch foul away. Good pitch by Espanosa. Slider on the outside corner. Ferrez just did get the bat of the ball to foul it off. All the runners return Dawson at second base and Carter at first and the pitch outside ball four and the bases are loaded. Bases are loaded and the better coming up is Dylan sir. Answer fly out to the left fielders first time up. Montreal and two and two and third dennings as had seven base runners and Rob Walker the pitching coach of the match out to the mound to talk to Nino Espanosa. No action in the bull back.

Our route back to the bench and John Sterns who was also out to the mound is coming back to his position behind home plate to set out to sign. Answer left and batter. Battle two seventy three last year for Montreal with 12 all runs and 40 runs battered in. And Espanosa working from the wind up and the first pitch to answer line drive at clean the diving catch in the side. Every time a clean handling that vicious line drive with a diving catch and no runs in the any non one hit through walks and free man left on base and the score at the end of two and a half and it is a good match.

The Montreal exposes nothing and the New York match nothing. All the New York that have a big double header coming your way tomorrow afternoon and along with it a big giveaway. It will be utility bag day here tomorrow afternoon James time at one old five. Everyone buying a ticket and attending the Sunday double header against the Montreal exposes receive an all purpose final utility bag. Don't forget fans that the utility bag will be given to everyone buying a ticket and attending the ball game. It was to be given away on. The first day of the year of the year of the game was the match of reschedulant for the double header tomorrow. The match of selector there pitching for that double header tomorrow will be Pat Zachary and Mike Bourd and the Montreal exposes will be pitching Wayne, Switzerland and Ross Grimsley.

And after Montreal leaves down it will be the Chicago Cup for three games. All day games starting at two old five on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and those three day games have been designated as senior citizens. All you senior citizens 60 years of age and over will be admitted to the ballpark for a 50 cent service charge. So a lot of opening series baseball that come your way tomorrow first double header the year in at least 18 innings of exciting baseball. Hope you can be here get it here utility bag and also see the New York match to next against the Montreal exposes. We're going to the bottom of the third no score and the lead off better for the match. Doug Flynn, Flynn with that spectacular diving catch of a vicious line drive hit by Delancer and it came at the right time for the match. The bases were loaded for the final out of the inning. First pitch to Flynn topped out toward the shortstop.

First fire he comes in to field it throws the first base for the out. Flynn had a big run better than in yesterday's ball game. It was the gamer and in his first time up in this game he has granted out one pitch and went away. Rudy Mann, the man for the Montreal exposes now he'll be working to Nino S. Phenosa. Nino right hand batter and not a bad hitting pitcher. That's a bad one base running that was Lenny Randall who walked on four pitches the first four of the ball game by Rudy May. And May with the first pitch pass ball at the knees at Galles Strike. Rudy May 18 and 14 last year for ball of more. It's one hundred six and lost a hundred sixteen and it's major league career. And his next delivery is inside one ball and one strike.

May's 18 wins last year is highest total. It's previous I had been fifteen. It's winning in a ball fouled and it's one and two. Spent five years with the California Angels started the 1974 season with California and was then threaded to the Yankees. It's eight and five in the Yankees in 74 14 and 12 and 75. And in 76 he started the year with the Yankees and was threaded to Baltimore where he was fifteen and ten. Next pitch is bounced back to the mound and one hopper for Rudy May is sort of first base for the out. Now with two men out Lenny Randall batting for the second time. Randall looking for his first base into the year he's 0 for four. May was originally signed by the Minnesota twins in 1963 but were selected by the White Stock in the first year player draft. From Chicago he was traded to Phillies and the Phillies deli monitor the angel.

He was in a deal that saw Boba Lysky go from the Angels to the Phillies and the first pitch of ball. Boba Lysky he was some character in baseball pitch to no hitter in the major leagues but that was about it. One old pitch outside ball to you two balls and no strikes the last report we had on Balinsky was that he was living in a white. And the two old pitch I and tight ball free and many Randall has yet to see a strike. First time up he walked in four pitches he's now freeing on this turn to the plate. And the three old pitch in the recall strike. Lysky was with the angels and they trained in Palm Springs California which is an outstanding resort area as you all know. And he had to have it and having some late hours in his baseball career. There's ball four and Randall walked. Randall has been on twice now on walks.

The only base runner for the Metz and it brings up Tim Fully. Had a good baseball friend of mine run into Balinsky late at night at the Racket Club in Palm Springs. Which was then run and owned by a great movie actor Charlie Farrell. And Rudy May from that position Randall is running and the pitch is a curve ball picked up by Carter the second base is not in time. And Randall has his first stolen base in the year. He set a club record last year with 33 Randall picking the right pitch and getting his first stolen base of the season. The pitch was down on the dirt and a ball to Tim Fully. On this friend of mine went up to Balinsky said you're down here to get in shape. It's spring train. How come you're up to late? What are you going to do when you get to the seventh inning of a ball game?

And you need that extra energy. Balinsky said to him. Who says you have to go more than seven any swing by Fully and it's missed and it's one ball and one strike. Only steps out of the batter's vice gets back in. Filed out his first time up. Tim is old for five so far this year. Rudy May working with the runner in scoring position for the first time in the ball game. There is no score two minute bottom half of the third. And the pitch back to Tim Fully. A curve ball down low. Two balls one strike. Rudy May throwing an awful lot of curve balls in this game. Here in one the count Randall sliding in the second base went in with a belly slide.

May leans over, reads the signs, nods yes goes to the set, checks Randall once. And now I'll throw the second base taken by cash as he moved over to take the throw on the back. Play was not close as Randall got back in standing up. So again May reading the sign now out of the set Randall is short lead the two one pitch. Swung on a miss two and two. Best ball. And no contact. We'll get a look at another pitcher acquired by Montreal and tomorrow's double header from Baltimore. Ross Grimsley both main Grimsley playing out their option. Two balls two strikes. May ready and here's the pitch Fully pops to that ball on the first base side.

Tony Perez is under it and he makes the guts in every tire as a side. No runs and no hits. So walk in a man after second in the score at the end of three. It's the expo's nothing in the midst of it. The first is done. Why is it happening?

The King appears in waiting for your call. Friends you say bye bye. Bye bye. You say it all. Aniser, boys Saint Louis. It's the top of the fourth. That ain't in the expo's have not scored and the met have not scored. Bet you do between Eino S. but also and Rudy May. Expos have had four hits and Espanosa has been in trouble in every inning. Now he'll be working to Wayne Garrett as his first batter. Garrett batting for the second time is first time up in a three one fastball. Wayne single the center field. Garrett playing third base and batting in the seventh batting position. In the first pitch a fastball too low for a ball. In the third inning the bases were loaded when Aniser lined to the second baseman Flynn. Here it looks low again. It's one ball and now two.

On the message board a warm midst welcome to our old friends for manufacturers and over trust company. Spending a day at Shay with us about 17,000 here for manufacturers. And again low and small three three balls no strikes. Yandek batter Chris fire batting eight. And the three old pitch. A called strike three and one Garrett has a good eye. Last year he had to have an e operation and he says he's about 80% back. He's having a good year for Montreal last year. The three one pitch ball four and Garrett walked. Garrett battered 270 from Montreal. We pause for station identification. This is a New York med baseball network. I know you want to treat the beer drink as you know to the very best. So the next time you have guests make sure they have plenty of cold Budweiser on hand. Don't you MCA New York. Rob Kiner along with Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson from Shay Stidium Low Scorm.

Montreal with a runner first no one out in Chris fire the batter. I'm happy to say that we have our statistician Arthur Friedman back with us again. Looks like he's been watching hockey all winter long. So the first base Garrett back easily. And the pitch to the plate. Fire takes a call strike. Party Friedman has a book coming out. What's the name? It's called the world of sports statistics swing at a fastball in the midst strike two. Party. Well there's no question about the way we think the best at addition in the game. Two strikes. Garrett at first. Here's his pitch to fire. Should off the hands. Blooped over first base.

It'll be a base it all tracked down by Monteneges as he goes back to pick it up in the outfield grass. And on the blue base it by Chris fire Garrett moves down to second. So runners at first and second and no one out in the pitcher. Rudy May coming up. That ball was really blue. Hit right off the hands and just lobbed over the head of Monteneges. So we actually got back to it and picked it up just about 10 feet back in the outfield grass. It was hit that softly. So it's firing now two for two and runners at first and second with no one out of Rudy May stepping in. And May in an obvious bunch situation and the match have a consultation at the mouth. Montreal now has had five hits. They received a total of four walks. So they've had nine base runners as they bat here in the fourth inning. Still no score. Met in looking for the sacrifice. And here's the pitch. It has bundled foul back in the stand strike one.

And then the ball. May coming over from the American League has not been a hitter as they use the D H rule over there. First time up he struck out in the two to fastball and he bumps the ball well right out in front of the plate. It's picked up by S. But also the toilet first face to Doug Flynn is in plenty of time. And on the sacrifice the runners move up. Wayne Garrett over to third Chris Faradon the second and that'll bring up Ellis Valentine who is two for two. Valentine singled the right of the first inning and singled the center of the third. He's two for six for the year having gone 0 for four yesterday against Jerry Kusman. Met are going to play their infield back. The runners at second and third. And the first pitch to Valentine a check swing and foul back into the stand.

Good slider by Espenosa Valentine tried to hold up but got his bat in the ball and fouled it off. One strike down. Valentine batting for the third time here in the fourth. And the next pitch is it high in the air to shallow right field Henderson moving up. He's fairly shallow tagged up a third is Garrett. Henderson makes it get Garrett comes down the line and holds that Henderson throw throws in perfectly. Oh Garrett held up. I know I'm sure the third base coach and wisely throw Henderson has a reputation for a good throwing arm and he made a good throw. That's Ken Henderson the right fielder for the match. Now what's human out the batter will be named cash. Name is old for two.

Cash a tough man to strike out two for six so far this year. And Espenosa working for this opposition in the first pitch is it the less that our field it might be trouble going back as a Brazilian he can't get to it. It'll go for extra bases one hop off of the wall two runners. Gore cash is trying for third and the throw by Foley is not the third base but in toward home and cash ends up with a triple. So the expose take the lead to the nothing as cash gets his first two RBIs of the year a one hot double off the top of the wall at the three 96 mark. Now Espenosa living dangerously to the first three and he just reached for two runs here in the fourth and the batter will be Andre Dawson. Dawson has walked he also is safe on a fielders joy so he is old for one.

And Espenosa now working to the plate in the first pitch it calls strike and the right and the back and the pitches inside it moves Dawson back fastball high and tight one ball and one strike. And the right and his next pitch fastball again inside. That's right around the letters two balls and one strike. And again that two one the pitch the plate hit hard to center field the base it. As comes in the score the ball bobbled by Miss only but quickly picked up to throw in stop Dawson the first base and Dawson has his first base into the year and his first run battered in.

That makes it a three nothing ball game and brings up Gary Carter. As walked he also has popped up to the shortstop Tim Foley and Espenosa to the set position. Here's the pitch and the fastball is too low for a ball. Carter was two for four yesterday with the double and a home run strong right hand batter and the next pitch fastball too high two balls no strike. Espenosa has given up seven hits and walked four so Montreal has had a eleven base runners and they have scored three. The next delivery fastball line to left the old Henderson moving back jumps and drops the ball in and out the glove. The throw in is over the head of Foley it is cut off by Flynn right at the third base area and going to third base and holding there is Andre Dawson.

Mind drive to left Henderson Miss Judges slightly move back jump forward got his glove on it but could not hold on to it. It is being scored at two base air and of course no runs battered in as no one scored and no one would be credited with an RBI if they had scored. Now group walker out the mound again to talk to you know Espenosa and action just starting up on the bullpen Bob Maurey running out to get ready to throw. Runners at second and third still to him and out in the batter's Tony Perez who has struck out and walked left and her Bob Maurey starting to throw in the bullpen. Also right handed butch Metzger warming up and Tony Perez to the plate and the first pitch of slider in the outside corner called strike.

And at one strike the pitch back to Ferris one on a miss. Ferris going for a fastball over the outside corner just above the east it's strike two. And now the two strike pitch on the way pass balls one on a miss and Ferris is struck out to the high end side pass ball every time he's the side third strike out for Nino Espenosa but in the end he was reached for three runs on three hits there was one air and two member left and scoring position in the score at the end of three and a half and he's the X balls three in the Metz nothing. It's here the new Dotson 510 station wagon with room for everything except improvement. The 510 wagon is big car comfortable.

The most level ventilation side one to defogger power front disc brakes and room go more yet the Dotson 510 wagon is small where it counts nimble steering compact style at a Dotson price that saves the perfectly sized new 510 wagon bigger than the small ones smaller than the big ones. How did we do it? We are a Dotson we are driven. Oh see the all new Dotson 510 that you're new by Dotson dealer now. We're going down to the bottom of the fourth the X-Bose leading three nothing with three in the top of the fourth and he then four the Metz the lead off batter will be Steve Anderson for the Cubs who shut out one nothing by John Candle area of the Pittsburgh bar. Yesterday after two today no score. Cubs nothing Pittsburgh nothing Ray Burris on the mom for Chicago.

He was 14 and 16 last year. The first game for the Pirates coming from the Texas Rangers with a record of 14 and 12. The end of six and a half and he's sitting at a two Houston one home run by George Foster in a second of the year. Walking on to our pitching for Houston at a record of 11 and eight last year Fred Norman going for the Reds. He was 14 and 13 last year at the end of six. Dodgers for Atlanta one Tommy John 27 last year in the amount for the Dodgers thick roofland seven and 13 15 for Atlanta. Also scheduled St. Louis against Philadelphia at night San Diego against San Francisco. There's a drive to deep left center field by Steve Anderson is going going and is gone goodbye. Steve Anderson with his first home run of the year. Steve Anderson who hit 12 home runs last year gets his first hit this year and that's the first hit of the game off of Rudy May.

It was a drive to deep left center field over the 396 mark. So the men are on the scoreboard in this ballgame. Exposed leading three to one and the batter coming up. Well they went to the edge. Well they granted out his first time up. And the first pitch occurred ball over to the easer goal strike. Let's get their first home run of the year as Steve Anderson who had struck out his first time up came back. Put it out the ballpark. A ball topped out foul. I'll picked up by Cardi but it was Carter but it was in foul territory. So it's a strike two count. That's only two base runners. Both times the Randall was up. He walked before the base hit by Steve Anderson.

Monteneges out of the batter's box and I'll get back in. One for three yesterday. Double down the left field side. Monteneges scored the first one of the season for the match yesterday. After his double he was doubled in by Ken Henderson. And a pitch for a ball that's one and two. Rudy May left hand are going for the Xbox. Her balls won on the missed and Monteneges is struck out. Third strike out for me. And it brings up Ken Henderson who flat out the right field his first time up. Anderson Betty from the right hand side against the left. And Rudy May with his first pitch. Pass ball below the knees ball one. Butch Metzger is still throwing in the bullpen along with Bob Murray.

One old pitch on the way. It's inside. And the ball is no strike. Anderson got the first run driven in by a match this year. And yesterday's ball game. Two old pitch. Rounded foul. Ken Henderson joined the Metz as the final part of the John Matlag deal. He was the player of the name later. And after he was signed by Texas he was then moved on to the New York Metzons spring training. Two one pitch to the right hand batter. And it's outside. Pass ball three and one. Anderson checks to see whether or not he'll be hitting the on deck batter as John Sterns. And the three one pitch on the way. It's outside ball four. Third walked by Rudy May puts a runner on with one man out.

And brings a potential time run to the plate and it's John Sterns coming up. John was struck out looking at the curve his first time up. Sterns one for two yesterday. And May goes to the set position. As fits to the plate. Stern ball two long. May shakes off the first set of signs. Now it takes a second. And the throw to first base moves Anderson back. Again May sets up and this time the pitch to play the pass ball on the inside corner by the knees.

One ball one strike. In the America let the Yankees are scheduled against Texas. The end of one and a half Toronto 3 Detroit one. Jerry Garvin. Ten and 18 last year against Jim Slayton. Ten and 14 last year. Boston against the White Sox in Chicago. Tennis Ecclesi. Making his debut for the Boston Red Sox. Spitch a pass ball foul back out of play one and two. Ecclesi coming to the White Sox. Farming to the Red Sox. And a record of 14 and 13 for Cleveland last year. Francisco Barriol. Spitching four of the White Sox. He was 14 and seven last season. One ball two strikes. Now the pitch. Breaking ball outside. It's two and two at the end of three. Cleveland six Kansas City four. Dennis Leonard started for Kansas City. He won 20 last 12 last year. One of three 20 game winners in the American League. Wayne Garlin 13 and 19 pitching for Cleveland. Now May is two two pitch.

It is said out to left field moving back to left fielder Dell. Unser is near the warning track but there. And he makes the catch. Anderson moving down to second now comes back to first and two in a way. And that'll bring up Lee Mozilla. In that Kansas City Cleveland game. Lotta got a homer in the second with no one on. McGrey homer in the second with one on. Ron threw it a homer in the second with no one on. And Paul Dato homer in the second with no one on. All getting there first of the year. Also scheduled Baltimore against Milwaukee. Minnesota against the Adelaide night. And opened against California night. Mozilla applied to center his first time up. And the first pitch by May is hit in the air. Fowl the ball drifting back into the stands out of play. It's only was two for four yesterday.

Drove in a run with a long double the left center field batting left handed. This game he is open one so he's two for five so far. Well there's nothing better than getting off to a good start in this regular season. Takes the pressure off. One strike I can't to Lee Mozilla. And May's pitch sinking fastball one ball one strike. They say that in the course of a year you're going to hit whatever you're supposed to hit. But it sure is a lot easier if you're going to hit 280 to get off to a good start and to get off to a lousy one. And you're never that sure you're going to reach your potential level. One one pitch to Mozilla popped up all out the shallow center field moving up in the ball is Dawson he has a lot of time to get under. He does and he makes the catch and every tire is a side.

But the Met score one in the home run by Steve Henderson. One man left on base. And the score at the end of four is Bob Murphy comes back in for the play by play. It is the Montreal X-Pose 3 and the New York Met's won. The top of the fifth inning now is Chase Stadium. For the Montreal X-Pose former Met Delancer will lead off against Vino Espinoza. Vino has been wild here today and the game is a real struggle for him. Not only has Vino walked four Montreal batters, but he's consistently been pitching behind the count of the hitters. Montreal broke through getting three runs in the fourth inning. Here's the wind up by Nino the pitch on the way fastball a strike call to the outside corner. Sorry jumps out in front on Delancer. Wayne Garrett is on deck and then Chris Faire. This is 6-7-8 in the batting order. At a curve popped up in foul territory behind the plate stirons comes back

and the ball breaks off his glove. Should have been caught. John Sterns came back near the field box really. Had it used glove just for a moment added popped up. So we'll wait for the official scoring and might well be an error for a prolonging the time at bat. Delancer just alive at the plate of the count of two strikes. Espinoza into his motion at a pass ball low outside. It will be an error charged to John Sterns for a prolonging the eternal bat. Pitching one and two inside that moves the hitter off the plate and the count of two balls and two strikes to Delancer. Montreal three runs on seven hits to New York one run only one hit home run by Steve Henderson.

The two two delivery breaking ball inside ball three. So Nino had a two strike advantage to Delancer and now it's a full count of three and two. Nino should be on or near the top of his game because he pitches one or base ball. At a high flight a left center field Henderson calling as he comes over and left center and he hasn't for the up. So the error does not hurt. One out of nobody on now here's the veteran Wayne Garrett. Wayne's brother Adrian is a sensation playing baseball in Japan. He's playing Major League Baseball in Japan at Ero Shima and he had homeruns in each of his first four ball games this year. Next pitch on the way swinging at a best strike two. Garrett in the game today has singled and reached on a walk.

Makes his home near nextville Tennessee. Espinoza sight again at a fastball inside high one ball two strikes double header tomorrow. First game at five after one here at Chase Stadium and its utility back day. Fastball off the inside corner stern thought they had him struck out. One out nobody on were playing in the top of the fifth Montreal leading by a score of three to one. In comes the pitch to Garrett wide ball three. So again Espinoza had the better two strikes now he has a full count of three and two. So Nino is throwing a lot of pitches in this game. High foul, lofted back upstairs, no play. That's having unusual schedule with Montreal this year. Generally I guess Eastern division teams you've just have each city three times.

Let's go to Montreal four times this year. Drive in the yard and left the O'Henerson with an easy play waiting. He has it for the off. So Garrett out on the fly to left and let's pause for station identification. This is the New York Met Space Ball Network. After a hard day on the job sit back and relax with Budweiser. You know that's a perfect way to end the hectic day just you and the King of Beers WMCA New York. Bob Murphy with Lindsay Nelson and Ralph Kader. Two outs nobody on the hitter is Chris Spire of the expose. And a breaking ball a strike called on the outside corner. Things have been better for Nino in this inning. Each of the three batters that has come to the plate he has gotten out in front on. Fastball missing the outside corner one ball and strike. Mentioned that figure the Spire will pull the ball. Mazzelli placing over to right center. And a fastball on the outside corner one ball two strikes.

Nino Espinoza talented young right-hander from the Dominican Republic. Nino is now 24 years old. Last year with a Metzy one ten and lost 13. And what was really his first full season. Pitching one and two. Slider missing two balls and two strikes. Nino has never beaten Montreal. Lifetime record against the expose. He has not won. He's lost twice. And again he misses outside is three and two. So he's gone three and two on each of the three hitters to bat. Montreal pitcher Rudy May will be back. Free two delivery and a base hit through the hole in the right field. Spire will take the turn as Ken Henderson plays the ball back in. And the veteran shortstop Chris Spire now has three for three. Rudy May will be coming up.

Rudy has been over in the American league where they've had the D.H. the last four years. And I die seriously. He's had a time at bat in the last four years until today. In the third period at the Nassau Coliseum of New York Islanders, lead the New York Ranger seven to one as they near their first Patrick division crowd. Two outs and one on and Rudy May is the better. Rudy May has been struck out and he successfully sacrificed. And a fly ball will hit the right field. Ken Henderson running back running back and toward the lane and he makes the cut. And ball well hit by Rudy May and Henderson after a long run, pulled it down near the land. No runs, one hit of a man left. So we have come halfway at the end of four and a half earnings. Montreal free at New York what? Today most car mileage numbers are a lot of gas. At Dutson, our gas numbers are a lot of miles.

For example, our Dutson V2 10GX is rated highest on the highway. 48 miles per gallon, 36 city with optional five speed stick. These are EVA estimates your mileage may differ. But as ratings go, you'd have to go pretty far to come close to the V2 10GX. But while it uses less gas, it gives you more or car. Reclining bucket seats, power front disc brakes, radio tires, transistors, ignition and more, all standing, all milk to the greatest standard of all. Well, because at Dutson, we are driven to give you more years per car. No, try to fix it for some of Dutson's. And Dutson, we are... In the last of the fippening, Joe Tory has butch-metscher warming up in the Mets bullpen. Doug Flynn will lead up and then Nino Espinoza is scheduled to bat.

He will not take his batty turns. Joe Youngblood has come out on deck to bat for Nino Espinoza. Nino who has not had his control here today has thrown a lot of pitches. So this will be all today for Nino Espinoza. Nino turned in a very gritty performance. It was wild and he had to work under a lot of pressure. Doug Flynn looks at a really may fastball, strike one. For a starting pitcher, it's that day when you don't have that good control or real good stuff. That you're really going to have to be able to do that. And then he's going to have to be able to do that. And then he's going to have that good control or real good stuff. That you really have to work hard. Rudy made fires in the ground ball, basketball short stuff. Fielded by Spire and the long throw, see! Throw full pass off the bat. Wide throw back, Chris Faire, full 20 per-ass off the bat.

So Doug Flynn reaches safely and out Joe Youngblood will be a pinch-hitter. Go wait for the official scoring. That might very well be a throwing error, it will. Doug Flynn may have been spiked on the play at first base. Tom McKinna and Joe Torry have come out to first base to see Doug Flynn. He may have been stepped on. As he went over the bat, 20 per-ass had to fly through the air to handle the wide throw. Now apparently he is alright. Tom McKinna is coming back to the dugout. So the pinch-hitter is Joe Youngblood.

Doug Flynn reaching safely on a throwing error by short-stop Spire. Handyman Joe Youngblood, right hand-hitter. Standing at a guest Rudy May. The veteran left-hander delivers curve inside at low ball one. And the baseball crowd is shitting much July. As they start to cry, let's go next. It's the Youngblood, a swing, and a left-hander, one ball and one strike. We will see a much matchgur for the first time when Montreal bats are the sixth-dunning. Two years ago, a much matchgur. And Pat Zachary were co-requies of the year. The one-one delivery, swinging a mess. One ball to strike.

The dual Youngblood. Then he randled on deck and then him fully. Messed trail by a score of three-one as they hit him the last half of the fifth inning. Tony Perez holding, I guess, the base runner Doug Flynn. The infield of the outfield straight away. Pitching one and two. Off the outside corner is Youngblood held on his swing. And his two balls and two strikes. A little swirl of dust because this Youngblood to call a fam and get out for a moment. Now he's ready. The two-two delivery at a fly ball hit the left field fairly deep. Back goes answer on the warning track. He makes the catch. Well, hit by a dual Youngblood. And Del answer a good outfielder ran to the warning track where he reached over his head and made a one-hand catch.

One out and one on the top of the batting order for the arc and Lynn Randall. Randall has been about twice. These four times has drawn a walk. Last half of the third inning he stole a second. At this point in the game the Mets have only one hit. And that a homerun by Steve Henderson. One out and one on. Rudy Mayer out of the arm of the swing out of this strike one. Rudy May has walked three and struck out three. A loud one run and one base up. He checks the runner at first and the pitch breaks low until Lynn Randall. One ball and one strike. Switch it her Lynn Randall batting right against Rudy Mayer. The X-Bows have the infield pinch toward the middle.

And a check swing foul ball roll again to the Mets dug out behind first base. Butch Mets gear a young right-enter acquired the St. Louis Cardinals will be on the hurl of the sixth inning. Now May have been pitching position. The one to delivery at a half swing foul coming back into the upper deck. That will be out of play. Down remaining at one and two on Lynn Randall. Lynn Randall plays the game of baseball with a throttle wide open. The first one is the first one. The first one is the first one. The first one is the first one. The first one is the first one. The first one is the throttle wide open. The one to delivery at a slow ground ball down the third base line. Tough play for Garrett. Here's the throw and it's in time for the out. Randall combos over and over.

Reaches back as though he may have heard his back. But apparently he is all right. And Johnny Perez is safe getting up. Now it looks like John B. Sherry. So he was just calling time out of the lead. Both Randall and Paris are shaking up. Randall going all out trying to beat the play at first base was out. And both Tony Paris and Lenny Randall have been shaking up. So Dick Williams of the X-Buzz gather around Tony Perez. Jotory and the mess gather around Lenny Randall Randall hit a slow roller down the third baseline and on a very close play just was out but collided with first baseman Tony Perez and both are limping.

Now they have cleared the field and actually resumes and the batter is Tim Foley. Doug Flynn is on second base. The mess down need of a two-eyed base hit to get her uncloser to Montreal. Tim Foley has failed to get the ball out of the young field in two times at bat. Both times he's popped the ball up to first baseman Tony Perez. Rudy May off the stretch. Fast ball over the outside corner. Strike one. The New York mess batting in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Doug Flynn on second base and two-minute away. Now Rudy May eyes Flynn. Here's the pitch on the way. Line drive over second into short center base hit. Lenner on third is coming home. The throw coming in from Dawson. Not in time. What is it? Tim Foley singles the center and we have a three at the two-boggine.

Tim Foley getting his first RBI and the mess down of inch back within a run. The run will be unearned since Flynn was safe on a throwing error by Chris Pair. Now Steve Henderson coming up. Henderson hit a long home run over the wall and left center field. The last time at bat. Montreal three in New York two in the last half of the fifth inning. From this point forward in the ball game. Joe Torrey will be calling on his bullpen to try and hold Montreal in check. Needle S. Panosa has left the game for a pinch hitter. The pitch to Henderson foul ball back over the dead out and into the crowd on the right side. Strike one.

They have a pitching duel going in Cincinnati between Joaquin and Dohar at the Astros and Freddie Norman of Cincinnati. Reds lead to one of the eighth inning. Tim Foley on first base he delivered a clutch single at two out base it to drive home Doug Flynn. Here's the pitch on the way. Off speed delivery outside one ball and one strike. The Montreal ball pen is quiet. 33 year old Rudy May has only allowed two hits but each base that has produced a run. That is time for hitting. Steve Henderson waiting at the play. And a ground ball hit the short shot. Chris Faire throws to Dave Case.

We're a forcefully on Tim Foley to retire the sack. One run on one hit one error and the run is unearned and one left on. So at the end of five innings the score Montreal free and New York to. Wednesday morning. Two years ago he was the co rookie of the year curling for the San Diego Padres when he was in 77 ball games. And last year pitching for San Diego and St. Louis. He was in 75 ball games a lot of games with the Cardinals last year. Butch Metz girl one four and lost two yet a 3.1 ERA.

Butch Metz girl from Lafayette in the United is a 25 year old right-hander. And this is his third season in the National League. Metz girl is a fastball slider and curveball pitcher. The hitters will tell you that he has a very deceptive motion that makes it hard to pick up the ball. Butch is wearing tug madras all number number 45. And like Pad Zachary's also wearing a lot of whiskers on his face. Those whiskers did not exactly agree is Cardinal manager Vern Rep. That's manager Joe Torrey does not mind at all. Alito better is Ellis Valentine. It's the first pitchfowl back into the crowd. Now Metz girl checking out the

sands with John Sterns and the pitch on the way a squib at down the third baseline Randall and picks it up throws off balance. He's out. Beautiful fielding play by Lenny Randall. Big swing by Valentine of the slow roller trickling toward third. Randall flashing and stabbing with his glove head. Then comes the difficult maneuver of shoveling that ball from the glove to the throwing hand that crisscross step in order to be able to throw and getting it over there. One out of nobody on Dave Cage the better basketball high ball what. The one over delivery foul ball down the right field end.

Now the one one pitch by Metz girl is a swing at a miss at a curveball. The third period down the now saw a coliseum for the York Rangers the New York Islanders lead the New York Rangers 7 to 2. Pitching one and 2 base hit line drive through the hole in the left field for Dave Cage. Four days it is his second hit of the ball game. He's not to for four is triple drove in to Montreal's three runs. There in the ninth inning now in Cincinnati the reds two in the Astros one pitching dual involving Joaquin and do her and Freddie Norman George Foster it is second home run of the year it came on the second inning. Foster last year at fifty two home runs to lead the major leagues. He became the first player since Willie Mays the 50 or more. Breaking ball inside and low now to

the center fielder. Dawson hitting third of the order and he has one for two and a walk in today's ball game. Throw the first done in time. The expose of stolen three bases in the game today. And Dawson has two of the three. He is the hitter. Metz girl working off the stretch throws the first done in time. Needle less but also work five minutes. Nino gave up three runs allowed eight hits. He walked four and struck out three. You know did not have his control going for him in today's game. Breaking ball way outside. To the right hand hitter Andre Dawson and the count is to an oh. Los Angeles Dodgers with twenty game winner Tommy John on the man leading the Atlanta Braves four to one in the eighth inning in Atlanta. Let's have the infield looking for two. Car ball low ball three.

And now Metz girl is behind free and old. The parents lead the Cubs one to nothing after five on the pitching of Bert Blile. But Pittsburgh Beach Chicago one nothing yesterday. And the pitch low ball four and Metz girl has walked Dawson on four pitches. Now the expose are threatening. They have runners on first and second one away and they're clean up better Gary Carter coming up. Gary Carter has popped a short reached on a walk and been safe on a drive hit the deep left that popped out of Steve Henderson's glove. That was scored as an error. Right head hitter Gary Carter the Montreal Clean Up banner fastball over strength one. Gary Carter who authored 31 Humbers a year ago and drove in 84.

Pick up attempt. No throw is made as the short stop fully dashed over to take it. Now Metz girl looking in. Checking things out with John Stearns. The infielded double played up. Get off the end of the bat foul off to the right straight to Bob Mary up in the New York mess bullpen as Metz girl runs into trouble here in the sixth inning. Bus retired the first better. But then gave up a base at the Dave Cash and on four pitches he walked Andre Dawson. Tony Paris will be the next hitter. The two strike delivery and a line drive in the left field of base hit taking on a hot nice Steve Henderson. Here's the throw coming toward the plate not in time in the score is Dave Cash and Montreal has afforded to leave. So Metz girl was out in front on the Gary Carter but Carter time to swing right on the curve ball and he singled up field. Time called and her blocker is coming out.

An RBI for Gary Carter. He had one yesterday with a home run. Pitching coach Rob Walker on the man talking now with butch Metz girl. When player he zones the batter will be Tony Perez. Tony is offered two with a lock in the ball again. The Toronto Blue Jays lead Detroit four to one in the fourth and again Detroit. A home run by the Blue Jays John Mayberry. Lost his job to a rookie. Clint Hurdle and was adult to the Toronto Blue Jays. That's Jerry Garvey to guess Jim Slate. Red socks after losing yesterday are leading the white socks for to nothing after four in today's game in Chicago. Dennis Ecclesley pitching for Boston Ron Schuller has replaced Francisco burials home run by Boston's Rick Burleson Cleveland leading Kansas City eight to five

after five and a half minutes. Now 20 Paris coach the bat right hand power hitter. Look out. I am tight ball one five home runs have been hit in today's game in Cleveland. Pretty five tech and how McCree of homework for the royals of whitey Hurza. Her ball off the outside corner to an old Ron fruit fall deed and Andre Thornton of all homework for the Indians. Right here a tough spot for a miss here the two old delivery swinging at a miss at a breaking ball. To ball's in one strike. The most about Marik warmed in the bullpen. Dell answer left hand batter is waiting on deck. And he missed the outside corner of all behind on paros three and one. To the expose last year the veteran 20 Paris had 91 runs

bad of it. Mania more 11 years in a row free one pitch swing in a miss three and two. The runner on second is Andre Dawson and Gary Carter is on first to run the score one matter way on the sixth inning and the expose with a four to lead. That's good goes three and two. Let's keep an eye on the runners. They're holding up and the ball is going to be a little bit a little bit more than the ball. It's just a foul coming back upstairs. No play. Pacing of today's game has been slow and all these is when the pitchers walk batter is. That's been also walked for that's got to walk one. This time the runners are going with a big jump and a foul ball back on the screen. Lead runner Andre Dawson had a huge jump. He could have stolen third base but of course with a three and two count and the ball in the strike zone. Donnie parents had to go for it.

Butch Metzger 25 year old right hander from Lafayette Indiana making his first appearance for the Metz. The runners take a lead. The count is three and two. They are holding up at a ground ball that's going through the hole in the right for a base. Austin is coming home to score. Monkryol has a three run lead by the two going from first to third Gary Carter. This will be all for Metzger and Bob Marrick will come in. So 20 Paris hitting a ground single to the opposite field beyond the reach of Doug Flynn bringing home Andre Dawson. This will be all for butch Metzger butch retired the first batter but now it's allowed for an error to reach base. Bob Marrick is coming in at the pitch to Dell answer. So we'll see now whether Dick Williams makes a change and goes to a right hand batter. And while the pitching change is being made here at Chase Stadium.

Dennis Leonard started the Kansas City Marley Patten in the fifth year and the sixth Garland for Cleveland. Context MacRae, Prue, Dayton Thong they've had homers. We're getting ready to go here once again and once again here is Bob Murphy. All right Lindsay Dull answer left handed hitter of veteran outfielders standing in against left handed or Bob Murray. Montreal ahead now five to two runners at first and third. Her ball by Maryc low and away ball one. Last year his first full season in the Major Liggs Bob Murray

One ball one strike to. Willie a month and a. Willie a two eighty seven with the Atlanta Braves last year year before last he had two hundred and six sets with Atlanta. The one one delivery foul ball again behind third and back into the crowd no play one block his strikes. Ken Henderson is on deck and then John Stern's. Bob Murray came in from the ball then got Del insert it into a double play to end the inning. And a swing and a miss straight three modern-yose badly fooled about through out of his hands and

went past the mound out near a second. Fourth straight out for Rudy May is pitching a very strong ball game. Ken Henderson has fly to right and reached on a walk. Rudy May has had a winning record in each of the last four years of the American League. The pitch to Ken Henderson taken high one ball on those strikes. Each of the last four years he's increased his victory total. And last year is best ever he won eighteen. The one over delivery inside and low it's ball to. Rudy May first came up to the majors of the California Angels. And after he's working year he was

Four hitter by Freddie Norman today beating it the Astros two to one. John Stern sitting a foul ball back footer broadcasting booth at a play. Final score today in so some of

that either Reds two in the Astros one ready to arm in the winner walking and do higher the loose. And the Reds have swept the series. So the Reds off to a good start. Marty Cornetto getting up now but he already messed both in. Off the outside corner early chilly day and you need a little longer out of that bullpen to be ready. So Joe Tory has Cornetto starting to work now. They have him ready when he has to put up a pinch of her. The one one delivery at a drive. Well hit the left field by John Stern's back those answer on the warning track he's got it for the out. They'll answer a good outfielder. Going back to the warning track to pull in that drive that was well hit by John Stern's. Two minutes away one on Lee Mozilla about in seventh of the order. Mass is over to twice the as fly to center.

Lee Mozilla used the batter. Messed drilling by three runs five to two. Here in the bottom half of the six. The pitch by Rudy May is outside in low. It's ball what. We'll get warm up fashion in the Montreal both and their old nobles of veteran left enter stand Bonson of veteran right. Enter both warming up a lot of years of experience with those two Bonson and nobles. Rudy May fires and he gets a strike on the outside corner. One ball one strike to Lee Mozilla. Lee Mozilla is over to trying to get his first hit of the afternoon and the pitch on the way lined in the short left field. Hunts are coming in coming in. It breaks off of his glove. He can't handle it. He's made a third in the center. He runs third as being held there.

Mozilla goes into second base. We'll wait for the scoring. I believe that will be a base hit. Very tough chance for Dell Inser. He came racing straight in. The ball is looped into short left field. He lends forward at the last moment. Got his glove on it near the grass but couldn't hold it. It will be a base hit for Lee Mozilla. And it will be a two base hit. Now there are runners on second and third. But it's sorely in need of a two out base hit. If they could get it they'd be right back in this bar game. Found Grievous come out on duck to be a pinch hitter for Bob Murray. Doug Flenn is the batter. Doug has over two. But he reached safely on air and later scored a run his last time at bat. Doug drove in the game winning base hit yesterday. The game winning run. Inside and low it is ball what. That's one yesterday's game three

to one and Flenn drove in the second run. So he had what they call the game deciding RBI. Runners on second and third at two minutes away last to the sixth minute. Here's the winded by me at the pitch and a ground ball hit down a third fielded by Garrett. And the long throw in time for the up. So Wayne Garrett throwing out Doug Flendery tire of the side. For New York no runs there were two hits and two left on. Lindsay Nelson will join you for the play by a play in just a moment. At the end of six unnings, Henry all five to your two. Recently a survey was taken up the prices of premium gasoline. The survey covered hundreds of service stations in the northeast and United States. Virtually every major oil company was included. Right now I'd like to tell you the results of that survey. In Portland name, Getty premium sold for less per

gallon. In Boston, Getty premium sold for less. In Northern New Jersey, Philadelphia, and New York. Getty premium sold for less. In fact, in every state survey, Getty premium sold for less per gallon than most major premiums. More premium gas for your money. That has to be the best mileage ingredient you can buy. So the next time you go in for gas, pull in for Getty premium gasoline. Getty, once again, we've got what's best for your car. The America is still on the mouth of the New York Metcin, so they did not keep the rally alive long enough to send up the car. And they have stopped throwing down in the bullpen area. And the Montreal exposure coming up here on the top of the 7th inning with Wayne Garrett to lead it up. Garrett had a base hit in the second and he walked the latest Gordon the fourth. He fly to left in the fifth.

He is one for two and a walk for the afternoon. Wayne Garrett, a former New York Met, who year before last was traded along with Delancer to Montreal, and exchanged for a Peppyman-Guall and Jim Dwyer. Here's the pitch. And it's low for a ball. The fire is on deck. Mark again delivers high and away, so it's gone to two and a one out, a Wayne Garrett. He looks down to the sign then, Norm Sherry, who is the third base coach for manager Dick Williams. Obviously exposed. Here's a swing in a miss. Two balls and a strike. The answer is leading by a score of five to two. That's high for a ball. So now Mark is behind three. When Mark came in and relief of which Metzger and

Guadelancer to him and doing any ending double play in the sixth inning. Here's a three one. Swung on and popped up into short right. So that's the second base one does plan back up by Henderson who calls him off and Ken Henderson makes the cat. So there's one away and that brings up the number eight man in the order. The short stop Chris Spire. He is at three hits here today. He is three for three. Montreal got three runs. Hoffman, you know, Espenosa and the fourth inning. Then the Metzger would like to get two singledons and the fourth and fifth and make it a three two ball game. But then off which Metzger, Montreal got two more to extend the lead to five two where it is now. This pitch is in there for a call strike to the right hand bat in Chris Spire. Rudy Mayer is kneeling in the on deck circle. It is considerably cooler here this afternoon than it was yesterday. The pitch is in for a call strike.

Oh and two. And the O2 pitch. It's high for a ball. Point and two. Well man, out nobody on base. And the pitch just fired on the ground to short stop. Poli scooped it up. Tim Poli threw it high and over the add of Martin S and on it first is Chris Spire. Well, if the railing in front of the lower field box isn't rebounded to Martin S but Spire was a cost of a safe on the throwing error charged against him. Poli. So with one man out, the experts have a runner at first there leading five two so Rudy Mayer is coming up and what is very likely a sacrifice circumstance. The left hand batter who struck out successfully sacrificed and the rally on the fourth inning and then he fly to right. Randall in anticipation of the butt has moved up around the butt.

It is running on and missed. Strike life. Rudy Mayer went around into running stance. But missed for strike one. He is looking down to norm sure to see if the bunny is still on and one would expect it in my very well be Chris Pylee. He's around the butt. Bunch of foul off to the left side out of play and it's strike two. Oh and two now. So do you leave it on all the way? Rudy Mayer is getting that information from the third base coach. Will the manager have him run all away if a third strike is funded foul? Of course it is a strikeout. So do you under those second touches take it off and let him swing and run the risk of the double play. He's around the butt. Watch his low and away for a ball. It is one and two. It was still on. One ball and two strikes. So one would assume that it would still be on. Finding he has just holding against the runner Chris fire at first base. And the pitch is around the butt bunches up the third base line taking by Randall he's going to first limb takes it there moving

to second on the sacrifice his fire. The side goes in case you're scoring five four. The brings up Ellis Valentine with the runner at second and two men out. Monterey all batting here in the top of the seven inning. It's Chase stadium in New York. Valentine two for four. Here is a final hockey score. The Islander seven and the Rangers two and that is a final. The Islanders have won it. The Islander seven the Rangers two at the Nassauk, Alessia. Valentine is in waiting now. Here's a swing in a missed strike one. All in one. Valentine pounds the plate. Bob Maurek sets up. Wind blows dust across the

infield. So time is calling out as Maurek steps off. Where is contacts. Little bothered with the dust blowing by the air. So now he's getting set to work again if he picks up a sign from John Stern. Offer is all one and it's in their best ball at the knees for a call strike two. Oh and two to Ellis Valentine. General manager of these Montreal exposies Charlie Fox. Native of the Bronx and a long time. Remember the giant organization in New York and San Francisco. One time for your manager of the San Francisco giant. Now pitch has fallen and hit in the air to center field. In short, Senator Doug planned the second basement is retreating and he makes the case. So the side is retired. There was an error and there was one left and at the middle of the seventh inning the score is Montreal five and the next two. The best five baseball year books has traditionally been the New York match official year book and the 1978 edition is certainly

no exception. It contains 64 pages half in color filled with highlights such as a two page teen pictures suitable for framing. twenty five cents to met your book box ten, Plushing New York zip code one one three five seven. Bruce Bulklair is coming up to bat now for Marik. Bruce Bulklair is batting for Bob Marik. The meds are trading by three as they batten the bottom of the seven thinning. Who do you may still on them on? All is money at the first baseline. May is after turn to throw and on by the first person. Post-pressed and after five to second. Silence on up his right ball arm but three to second is post-pressed. Hold on that's ever under a second with nobody out. It was a drag but pulled up the first baseline for the left hand batting book there. Rudy may got to it. But he was only about ten feet from the first placement paris. He fired it right on by paris. It was covering up if any day. It went down the right field line and fouled territory. It was a long way for the right fielder. Hell is Valentine to get over there so but he was not going to

get the ball. He was not going to get the ball back. He was not going to get the ball back. He was not going to get the ball back. Had sleepless and after Hell is su him down to get over there. BOC full Blair It's 13th per second events have fired the ball to second but he was. He had not minutes have to get popular Encountering and Jimmy Randell has he had one stolen bass and grounded out. He X voted leading after two Show that is an error on the throw all the way. It's really made the picture on the pitch to the right. Now the pitch to the right hand batting, Lenny Randall. He's the switch here to your batting right. Both players play at Ruled and Error all the way by the official score. That's trying to get something going on the scoreboard here in the bottom of the seven Denny. Rudy May, Ben's ending at the sign. Standbots and Darryl Knows, up and throwing

in the Montreal bullpen. That's a breaking pitch. It comes in a little high. One ball and one strike now. Lenny Randall. Him fully is on deck. Montréal five in the match two in the bottom of the seven Denny. Again, Rudy May Ben's end. Making up the sign. Miss Ketchigiri Carter. He's got it. Oh, Claire leads it second base. Here is the one-one delivery. And it's hung on and hit high on the other left field. Uncertain play it. Shading his eyes a little bit. Moves up a step or two. Both players halfway. The catch is made. Oh, Claire retreats to second base. Randall with a high fly ball to the left. One away in Tim Foley is coming up. Foley delivered a basic center field on the fifth. And he's driving a run. He has one for three for the afternoon. Steve Henderson has moved out on deck. He had a home run in the fourth inning of the ball game. Put the match on the scoreboard for the first time. Rudy May was an 18-game winner last year with Baltimore. The biggest winning season he's ever had in the major league.

That's his sign now. He has Bruce Bulk there. He's off the bag at second. And the pitch to Foley. Shardin' up his dot of bunch of get outside. It's ball one. Wayne Garrick's the third base one. Tony Perry is the first base one. Yeah. And Rudy May has the sign. Set's up in deals to Foley. It's running it on the ground. He shortstop. Both Claire holds and Chris fires over the first inbound to advance. True way. I will bring up Steve Henderson. Here is a final score of the Los Angeles Dodgers. They've made it two in a row over the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta. Dodgers six Atlanta two. Mommy John got the win. Terry Forster relieved in the eighth inning for the Dodgers. Dick Rusman, Dick Delos. Eddie Sullivan, the fifth Adrian, the Van in the eighth.

Gary Matthews, who he's first come in the fourth with nobody on for Atlanta and Reggie Smith. It is first come in the fifth with nobody on for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers swapped Atlanta 13. The four last night in the openers. They made it two in a row. Both Cincinnati and the Dodgers. After roaring starts in the West and the vision of the National League. Steve Henderson at the plate. Rudy May checks the runner. It's second deals the pitch. Any it's on away for a ball. It's one and all. Montréal five. That's two. Anderson has picked up many of the mannerisms of George Buster. I'll be back. Anderson was in the Cincinnati organization before coming to the New York Metz last summer. Now the one and it's dealt in there for a call strike. So it's one ball and one strike. Anderson that's number three in the matter. One of those mannerisms of which I spoke is being exhibited right now. As Henderson turns and walks some six eight feet away from the

plate. Man who must hold the National League record. For stepping out of the matter box is George Buster of the Cincinnati Reds. Buster explains that it's done with the purpose. Try to break any rhythm that the pitcher might be developing. Here's the one and one. Tung on and foul back. It's out of play. So it's one and two. Rudy May has struck out four and he's walked three. Steve Anderson now is jogging over to the on deck circle to get the fine tar right. William Antony as is on deck there. Now Henderson is coming back. Aronnie's right hand batter. Took a fleeting look down to Dow Maxwell. The side man is third.

There he is getting the sign. Steve Anderson a little tired to backstop again now. Could be a little game of cat and mouse going on here between Rudy May and Steve Anderson. In any case it's time consuming. Whatever. Now May sets up. And one to pick. Low for a ball. Both May and Carter started for the dugout. There are two men out and they both started to the dugout on the pitch. Jerry Dail is the unprobably on the plate. And his little heat from the dugout of the Montreal X-Float. And here trying to get a let's go meds chance started once again. Rudy May sets up. Offer the two two pitch. Strong on and this Steve Anderson the struck out and the side is retired.

Strike out number five. Got it did you Rudy May? There was an error and there was one left and at the end of seven the score is. Montréal five and the meds two. The day is done. Come in. It's time to let it go. It's the moment to one way. And the goal. So gently pull the gun. And the goal. And for the king of men. And settle back. And to beat yourself. No matter what you do. No matter when or where. You know the last of us. Is like an easy chair. When you live. Yeah put it wise here. Absolutely the best way to go all of the day. Any day.

You know what I mean. When you live. Well. You stand in the hole. And I was a boy Saint Louis. Well the meds now. Bruce Paul Claire stays in the ballgame and left field. And Marty Coneil comes into the pitching. He is making his major league debut here this afternoon. Marty Coneil. He will bat number three in the order in place of Henderson. Steve Henderson who has come out of the game. Well Claire of course bats number nine. Marty Coneil is 26 years of age. He is from Wayne's and Kansas. A drive of the meds. 21st selection in the June 1973 free agent draft. That is best year of his professional career last year. As he recorded at least one win and one save against every team in the league pitching for the Med Stripley farm clubs. A tideward of a genuine yet a record of 11 and six in an ERA of 2.63.

Marty Coneil briefly attended the University of Tulsa. The name of the Texas League off start even both 75 and 76. The first pitch is a Fortball. Which he delivers effectively. He says that he has been pitching a Fortball since he was about 11 years old. So he has been brought in here in relief. Mike Brod and Marty Coneil were the two young pitchers who made the med pitching staff this year and were brought north by manager Joe Torrey. Mike Brod will make his major league debut tomorrow as he will get a start. And one of the two games against the X-FORs in tomorrow's double header. Through seven innings of play, Montreal, five run to 11 hits and two errors. The meds two runs four hits and three errors. And before we get underway, we'll pause for station identification. This is the New York meds baseball network. Hey, the next time someone asks you, when do you say Budweiser? Tell them anytime. Anytime you want to enjoy the smooth beachward age taste of the King of Beers. WMCA, New York.

This is Lindsay Nelson with Ralph Canner and Bob Murphy here at Chase Stadium where the Montreal X-FORs are leading the meds by a score of five to two. And the X-FORs are batting in the top of the eighth inning with Dave Cash deleted off. He's head to it today. A triple to draw the two runs, a big hit in the fourth inning and a single in the sixth and he later scored. So he scored two and driven into. Here is a swing out of foul ball. I really tend to dirt. I beg your pardon. It's on his body around. Late off and it is 1-0. Marty Cornel, a right hander. Bet you as low for a ball. It's 2-0. Marty Cornel, where's the number 47? For you trivia, Debutz, who was the first New York med pitcher ever to wear the number 47? Low for a ball. Well, he was also the first winning pitcher in New York med history. Back in 1962 against Pittsburgh Pirates.

Here's a 2-0 delivery. Swung on and missed. It's 2-1. Here you hook. More than number 47 of the original meds. An expansion draft selection off the roster of that time to Cincinnati Reds. Here is a 2-1 pick. Swung on and it is up the middle and it's going to go through for a base set. Okay, he turns and holds with the third base set of the afternoon. Marty Cornel had a swipe of the glove at that one. They just went through the pitchers box that on out into center field. Andrey Dawson coming up. He's one for two and two walks. He's stolen two bases scored one run. A mini-talented ball player who patrols center field. A manager at Dick Williams Montreal X-Pose. That is in for a cross-strike. It's on one.

Okay, I should have taken a lead at first base. And he has his holding against him there and Cornel throws over. Nino has been also the pitcher of record. He started and worked five innings. Which meds care the newest of the New York meds obtained recently from the St. Louis Cardinals. Worked third of an inning. Run or go. Here's his swing in a mess. Throw the second base from the stolen base. But Dave Cash has the ball rolls away down there at second. Oh and two is the counter. Andrey Dawson at the plate. Runner at second with nobody out. Pay the tender cheer this afternoon is 7,259. The total attendance in the ballpark is 19,118. 7259 paid. 19,118 total. There's a swing in a mess at an outside pitch and he is struck out.

That is the first strike out in his major league career for Marty Cornel. Oh, he's got Andrey Dawson swinging and Jerry Cartler is coming up. He's one foot free in a one foot and he's driven in one run. Try to get his cleanup. Can't get him better. Still when, runner on the stadium near this afternoon. And at Shays stadium it blows in gust in all directions at the same time. That's possible. That's high for a ball. Here's 1 and 0. Andrey Dawson leading by score 5-2. They have led throughout the ball game. There was no scoring during the first three in the game today. But Montreal got three in the fourth inning. Here's 1-0. In the effort call strike. Here's 1 and 1. One-0 again off the stretch kicks and fires and pitches low for a ball.

True balls in one strike to Gary Cartler, followed in the order by Tony Perez. Dave Cash has taken a lead at second base. There was a hard dog that was blowing around on the mound. And Fernando starts to chase it and then thinks better of it. Returns to the mound. And a two-one pitches on the way. It's in there for a call strike. So it's two and two now to Gary Cartler. Shadows have linked and not beyond second base. Now here at Chase, Dave. Come fires. That first and third have their hands thrust deep into their trouser pockets.

Against the goal of the afternoon. Swinging a miss in Cornel with the fork ball gets his second strike out. True away. Cash holds a second and Tony Perez is coming up. Stork out, walk, stork out and single to drive in a run. That was off Metzka. That's better faced by Metzka before he was relieved by Bob Marik. And they are all with the pitch and it's low for a ball. One stretch in Cincinnati Tony Perez played third base with Big Lee May playing first at that time. But May was straighted away. The Houston and went on to Baltimore. Here's a 1-0 delivery. Get on the ground to short shot. The first one was a 3-0. The first one was a 3-0. The first one was a 3-0. The first one was a 3-0. Here's a 1-0 delivery. Get on the ground to short shot. Pull the exit up from throwing across the diamond low but dug out by Willie Martin. So the start is retired. There was a hit. There was a stolen base in one left and in the middle of the eighth inning the score is Monterey all five and the Metz too.

The Monterey all X-Fores are making some changes here now. As we prepare to go to the bottom of the eighth inning they have sent Sam Mahier send to left field. Sam Mahier just coming to play left. Del lancer is moving from left field to first base. And Pepe Freo just coming in to play a second base. Those changes for the Monterey all X-Fores. Pepe Freo's for a bad fifth. You're keeping a scorecard. That's in place of Peris. Sam Mahier is about second. Willie Martin is just coming up to lead it out. Monterey is leading five to two of the Metz are batting in the bottom of the eighth inning. Rudy May has been in all the way all those two bullfin has been warmed.

Where Stan Boson and Darrell knows for the past few innings. Here's a pitch low for a ball. One in automontaneous. They're going about the first base and struck out twice over three. Made a left handed. You're to the left hand better. High on a way for a ball. It's two and a half. Ken Henderson is on deck. Bet you still down there for a call strike. So it is two and one. This is a two and one. Swann on and hit hand of the air to a left center field. Andre Dawson knows upshading his eyes. All his softness he collides with family here on its deck. It's Martin. Yeah. May he has popped into Andre Dawson. It was the center fielder's play. Almost directly lined up with second base.

But Mahir has just kept on coming and after the ball was in the glove of Dawson. Mahir has came into him and jolted them all out. Martin here is running it out. It is an air-charging against Mahir. An air-charging against Mahir found the play. Throw the match ever runner at second base. And Ken Henderson is coming up. Switch hitter batting right. He's won for two in a walk. Throwing the first match run yesterday. Goodie may with the pitch run line and foul back. It's strike one. Well, Sam Mahir was inserted into the ball game for defense. And he just ran over his center fielder and a two-base arrow. Goodie may have been turned to pick up a sign. And he has lead the second base. The pitch is low for a ball. So it's one in one.

John Stern just moved on deck for the met. Briefly Fred Holdworth and Bill Adkinson had been up throwing just getting a little work. But quickly now, Bonson and Noles are back up and throwing in the Montreal bullpen. Here's the pitch running it on the ground and the deep short. It's taking best fire. He guns it and in time. No advance. The Montenores at second base. One away and John Stern will be the better. He has struck out and twice-flied the left over three. Montreal X-Fores have five runs. Twelve hits. The met has two runs. Four hits. Stern just a right-end batter facing the left-hand pitcher Rudy May. And the pitch swung on and hit in the air. The left field may hear. It goes back to the edge of the track calling.

The hear affects the cat. Halfway Montenores retreats to second. No advance. Two men are out in Lee, Missouri, he's coming up. Missouri fly to center, fly to center and double. He looped one out in the left field and the six-sending and Del Luncher tried to shootering it. He did not get it. It went by him for two bases. scored as a double for Lee, Missouri. Missouri is a switch hitter, batting right here this afternoon. It will be here for a double hit at tomorrow. Beyond here at 1 p.m. That's the Montreal and the first double hitter of the season. The Montenores at second base. Not field defense sets up straight away. Rudy may off the stretch. Montenores leads at second base. Now the pitch swung on and hammered on the ground. Foul back of third, gloved in the backhand step by Wayne Garrett. Foul ball brings Lima's early back to the plate with a count of strike one.

Zilly is batting number seven in the order today. The only change other than the pitcher that manager Jotory made in his order from yesterday. In a concession through the left hand he's starting for Montreal today. Well, it's just switch turns and Mizzeli. Yesterday Mizzeli batted ahead of Stern. He gets right in. There's Steve Rogers. Here's the O1. Swung on and hit deep to left field. It is way back there to the wall. It's going going. Got a home run for Lee, Missouri. A two run homer and the score is Machuio 5 and the Met 4. A two run homer for Lee, Missouri. So with all our field catch, a Met 3 by only a run as they bat here in the eighth inning. So with two men out and nobody on the judge plan is coming up.

He was on on their unlit score in the fifth inning. A Met 3 trailing by only one run. It's Machuio 5 and the Met 4 and the bottom of the eighth inning. Here's Rudy May now into the motion kicks and fires. We're going to drive that is going foul up the left field line out of play. One hop into the stands down to the left field corner. Third plan. And back picks up the bat. Nobody on deck. Bruce Boclair scheduled a bat night and now he comes out on deck. Boclair bats number nine for a new pitch of bat number three in the order. Here's a pitch. And for a call strike. It's at the knees, when this boots to call a bar cherry day, it is only two. Rudy May starts to work. Oh, two pitch. Low for a ball and it's one and two.

The two run humbrew by Lee Musilig getting the match right back into this ball game. You're in the bottom of the eighth inning when they trail by only a run. Now this is a one two delivery. And for a call strike three, the first ball got him lucky. Land just drops the bat and the helmet right there at the plate strike. I'd number six for May. That is retired. The Met's got to run on a hit and an error none left. And at the end of eight, the score is Montreal five and the Met's four. We'll be coming up here now on the top of the ninth inning with Dell Unchir to lead it off for Montreal. Mighty Karnayos still on the mod for the New York Met. The lights have been turned on here at Shayna. Unchir is all for four. The National League, the Chicago Cup and the Pittsburgh Pirates are now in the bottom of the eighth inning at Pittsburgh. Was leading three and nothing but the Cup.

They've just scored three in the top of the eighth. Tie at three three. Ray Burst against Bird-Glyle, a one day parker at a home in the third with nobody on for Pittsburgh. So he'd lost down at veteran stadium in Philadelphia tonight. Dell Unchir in and waiting, betting on the top of the ninth inning for the Montreal X-FOR. Marty Karnayo with the pitch outside basketball. At the end of an inning, San Diego Padres nothing San Francisco, Giants nothing. Bob Shirley against Jim Barr. Now the one old, swung on and fouled off to the left side out of place. That's Maddie Reyes defeated Houston by a final score of two to one. So that's Maddie Reyes taking three in a row from Bill Verdun's Houston Astros. Freddie Norman got to win this afternoon. Lucky and Undo hard took the loss and George Foster. Who had 52 home runs last year hit his second of the year in the second inning with nobody on. Here's a pitch dancer and it's low for a ball. And the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the amount of brave six to two and Atlanta's opener last night. They dodged a squop to braves and then they made a two in a row this afternoon winning six to two.

Tommy John got the win. Dick Ruthven took the loss. Swinging a foul ball off to the left side. So two to count now to answer. Gary Matthews had an Atlanta home run this afternoon and Reggie Smith had won for the Dodgers. The American League at the end of the inning. Texas Rangers won the New York Yankees nothing. John Madlack is going for the Rangers and Ron Giedri is pitching for the Yankees. Two to pitch and away it's three to Toronto and Detroit have now in the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays are leading the Tigers by a score of four to two. Jerry Garvey against Jim Slayton. John Mayberry had a homer and Ron LaFloor had one. Mayberry for Toronto LaFloor for Detroit. Three to pitch for Ron and hit on the ground the second base. Taken by Flam, goes to Martin Yees and has won away. That will bring up Wayne Garrett. Garrett is won for three in a walk. The former Met playing third base this afternoon for Montreal. Boston Red Sox Chicago White Sox on the bottom of the eighth inning and Boston's leading five to two.

Dennis Ecclesley has been relieved by Bill Campbell on the eighth inning for Don Zembers Red Sox. Francisco Barrios started for Chicago. Ron Schulem the third in Pavlov, Tariaba and the sixth inning. Burleson hit his first summer in the fourth with nobody on. Low for a ball to Garrett. Cleveland defeated the Kansas City Royals of Whitey Herzog by a score of eight to five. Wayne Garland got the win and his winner took the loss. Pitch is low for a ball. Ready Pontek hit a hover and showed it how McRae if the Kansas City Ron Prewitt hit one in Paul Dade. Hit one and showed it on Dray Thornton. For Cleveland that was in the fifth inning Thornton's. Here's a two-o pitch to Garrett. It in the air to left field and lifting back his Bruce Bulkler. Edge of the track waiting he's got it. Two-mail out with Monterey all batting here on the top of the ninth inning. Baltimore Orioles have scored three-touch on the top of the first inning. Milwaukee coming to bat. Dennis Martinez against Bruce Hots. And so to that see out of the night in Oakland, California also tonight.

Right here, Montreal is leading the meds five to four. If you want to look ahead to the bottom of the ninth inning the meds will be sending a Bruce Bulkler. Eleni Randall in Tim Foley. This fire sends a ground ball up the middle and air is a base hit. Pick up and center field by Lee Mazzillion played back in Chris Fire has sing along the ground. For the Monterey, Alex Boz, Rudy May the pitcher is beating off each jacket. East Rock out sacrifice. Lied the right in sacrifice, officially offered two. Each team has committed three hours here this afternoon in this early season ballgame.

Left hand by Rudy May is in and waiting. The first time he has holes against the runner Chris Fire at first in the pitch is out of way for a ball. It's one and only. Double hitter you're tomorrow afternoon. Now the one who pitch swung on and mid. Mine and one. Chris Fire hustling back to the bag at first as John Stern's bluff to throw down there. This will be a one one. It's on the way and it's foul off rolling back toward the mid dugout out of play. It's one and two now to Rudy May at the play. Monterey all five the match four and the top of the ninth inning. Monterey all bullpen is warm. Sam Bonson's drawing down here.

Rene all looks in to get his time once again. He's got it. And the pitch is hung on and missed on the check swing. Runner was scoring. He dropped by Stern. He tags May at the strike out and the side we tied. Third strike out for Keney on the fork ball. There was a hit there was one man left in the middle of the ninth inning. The score is, might be all five in the match four. The score is, might be all five. Once the big idea of the big idea is the story of the idea. And I did decide to come through with any happy returns for you. Astoria Federal has some big ideas for you. Like six year savings certificates with an effective annual yield of 8.17%. The most the law allows. Four year certificate yields 7.9%. Two and a half years 7.08%. And there are big ideas in 90 day and one year accounts.

The law on time deposits requires a penalty on withdrawal before maturity. So Astoria has another big idea. Ready cash savings for your everyday needs. Big ideas that's Astoria Federal. And I did decide to come through with many happy returns for you. The Astoria Federal. The New York match will be coming up here now on the bottom of the ninth inning. Trailing by a run and they'll have Bruce Bulklair up to lead it off. Bruce appeared as a pincher to the seventh inning. It was on on the two base era by pitcher Rudy Maeve as he affected a drag mud on the first place line. So Bulklair who had an excellent spring will be trying to get it started here now. And let's trail by a run and the bottom of the ninth and Rudy Maeve has been in all the way. Bulklair left hand batter facing the left hand. Can't have let's go match here at Chase Stadium.

Rudy Maeve into the motion and the pitch. I'd love for all. It's one of all. Here it's on the grass. It's third against Bulklair. The ball is waiting on deck. Bulklair bets number nine on the order. Rudy Maeve again dips into the motion and delivers the pitch. Hi, Prabal. It's going off. Bulklair and our back side. Walks around outside the batter's box. That's your Gary Carter. You're feeding Prabal the plates firing the ball back out to the Rudy Maeve who has gone behind the Bulklair. The match are looking for a base runner. They trail by a run. Bulklair's back in wide stance at the plate. Here is the two-o delivery and it is taking a low inside. Rudy Maeve got behind three-o. Bulklair looks down to the down-max one now and you would guess he'd be taking here. You want that man on base if you trail by a run and the bottom of the ninth inning. Carder says a word of two to the plate on five-jerry day. Bulklair back in. Here's Rudy Maeve with a three-o pitch and it is high. Walks him in the match gets the base runner.

Fourth walk issue today by Rudy Maeve. Bulklair on it first. And Lini Randall goes back up a four-word with his manager Joe Torey. Torey talking to Lini Randall on the top step of the dugout. So how do you play it here now? The book says if you're at home you go for the tag. Get that tag run under. If you're on the road you go for the win and disdain the sacrifice. But the match will be expecting Lini Randall to lay them all down. He is a switch hitter. If that's right. Sandbots and Darryl knows. Up and throwing once again in the move and for the match will be all exposed. I met him making their bid here now in the bottom half of the ninth inning. Tell Lanscher playing first place holding us through on a Bulklair. Garret's on the grass at third. Rudy Maeve steps up and here's the pitch to Randall. He's around bus to ball. I didn't feel the play good but. And second by Garret fires the first in time to Hunter. The sacrifice, one is moved the tie and run him to scoring position at second. And excellent but by Lini Randall. He's scoring it goes five-three. So now Tim Foley is coming up.

And Dick Williams is calling to the mound. Tom Grieb is coming out on deck as a perspective pinch batter. After Foley that would be for Fitcher Cornel. And Williams now is at the mound talking to Rudy Maeve. Let's have push the tying run and scoring position. Dick Williams is going to make a change right here. He may be going for his first time in the game. But he's going to be able to score a goal. Time run and scoring position. And Dick Williams is going to make a change right here. He may be going for his veteran right hander. Stan Bonson is the right hander. He's got two veterans down there. Bonson and Nolte and apparently he wants the right hander. The pitch to Foley. So Foley walks back over to the dugout to wait for the reliever to come in. And it is Stan Bonson. Who worked yesterday for two innings gave up no runs on only one yet. He struck out two and he walked three.

His lifetime rickering estimates is two and one as he did not figure. And the final outcome yesterday Steve Rogers was the losing pitcher. He has a lifetime major league record of 133 wins and a hundred and 135 losses. At Oakland Mastery, one won and lost two and then Candy Monster all the way one. Aiden lost not. Stan Bonson walking in from the bullfitt. So Rudy May has gone out of the ballgame after having pitched eight in the third. Then which he gave up four runs on five hits. He struck out six and he walked four. We'll bring you up to date in just a moment on scores of other games. Bonson has arrived at the mound. He's taking his warm up pitches. And the national league gets very still batting in the bottom of the eighth inning in the three-three tie with the Chicago Cup.

The average score giant's got four runs in the second. It's a giant's voice and the A-go nothing in the third inning, Bob Shirley against Jungbar. That's a Maddie Beat Houston 2-1. That's a final. Ready Norman Beatle, Joaquin Anduhar, enjoyed Foley out of Homer. And the largest beat of Lonna 62. Tommy John over to Kruthwin, Gary Matthews and Reggie Smith at home right. And the bottom of the third inning in the American League. The Texas Rangers still lead the Yankees one. Nothing wrong. Giddy, I guess John Madlach. And the ninth inning, Toronto is leading Detroit by score four to two. And the ninth inning, Chicago White Sox, six Boston Red Sox, five. Chicago got four runs in the eighth inning. Cleveland Beatcanta City eighth to Fabling, Garland over Dennis Leonard. Homies by Freddy Fattac, Hal McRae, Ron Troy Paul, eight and Andre Thornton. Baltimore got three in the tower to first Milwaukee coming to bat. And Minnesota plays a C out of the night, alternate California also tonight. We're getting ready to go here. The match will all Xbox are leading the match five to four.

The match is batting in the bottom of the ninth inning with one man out. Bruce Bulk there, the runner at second base, and Tim Foley at the plate. Foley had a single to come in and drive it or run in the bottom of the fifth inning. And Boston, right hand there working to the right hand batter. Boston now sets up. Each ex-bow player, the runner at second here at the fifth. He'll sit in there for a call strike. Ed Cainful now has replaced Tom Grieve on deck as they for a spectiefinch batter. Cainful, a left hand batter. He's out there. And Foley holds that bad high. And Boston checks the runner kicks in five, swinging a foul ball off a curve ball. Oh, and two that can't quickly to Tim Foley. The match is trying to get the time run in there, all from second base. Having taken a breather, Stan Boston stepped up and stepped off again.

Now he's back. I've hold that ball behind him while he's getting the sign from Gary Carter. Montreal five, then that's four. And now a little trouble with the communication. So, Tim, it's gone and Carter goes out. They have a word with this picture. They made halfway between the mound and home plate to talk it over. A little trouble with the signs. Both Claire just hopping up and down out there with the bag at second time to keep warm. It's been a cooler day here this afternoon than it was yesterday on opening day. Now, we're ready to go again. Both Claire takes his lead at second base. Boston has the sign and he sets up. Foley has the bad cock and the pitch is outside for a ball. It's running to. I feel the fence is straight away. Foley stays right in the batter's box. Johnson sets it up. Offers one, too. Maran and hit in the air to left field. And the hits can play it.

He's back there good to the back and makes the catch. Both Claire and switch to second. We pause for station identification. This is the New York Met Space Ball Network. This is WMCA Strauss Communications in New York, 57 on your AM dial. The radio home of the New York Metz. This is Lindsay Nelson with Ralph Kiner and Bob Murphy at Cheyenne. Eddie, Eddie, because Eddie Cranbull is coming up with two men out in the time run at second base. Eddie Cranbull who has a pinch hitter. Over the last four years has had an aggregate average of better than 400 as a pinch hitter. Sadding left against the right hander Stan Bonson. It's all up to Eddie. At Montreal leads five to four. Bonson sets up. Here's the pitch. And it is inside for a ball. It's one and all. Bonson, on the rubber. Men's to get east side. Bruce Falklair, the runner at second base, has taken his lead.

The chance continues of Eddie from the panzer at Cheyenne Stadium in New York. Cranbull has the bad cock in the pitch at the front. It's the India at the right field. Going back as Ellis Valentine is going deep. It's God, a home run. The Metz won the ball game. Eddie Cranbull with a pinch hitter. The Metz won the ball game. Eddie Cranbull with a pinch hitter. Over the right field. And the Metz won it by a score of six to five. It's Cranbull with a home run. Over the fence. And the New York Metz won it. Cranbull is being shot at the plate. The Metz are all around it. A home run over the right field. And the Metz have come from behind to make it two wins in a row. What a finish here at Cheyenne Stadium. The whole list of the New York Metz, Eddie Cranbull, the outer statesman, stepped up to the plate. And the account of one and a half. He had a home run over the right field fence.

In right field, Ellis Valentine did not at first realize that it would go that deep. So it didn't we. Apparently it got one of those win current. Ellis Valentine too late. Laird toward the wall of all disappeared. Over the right field wall of the Chad continues. Eddie because Eddie Cranbull is just delivered a two run pitch homer to bring the New York Metz to victory. Their second time out. And they still ever presided to one thousand. They have won two in last month. We'll be back in a moment with the final summary. And the final total is right now. The final score of the ballgame is the match six to the Xbox five. The day is done. Come in home. It's time to let it go. It's the moment to one way. So gently. Go ahead please. And for the king of the years.

Can't settle back. Can't please yourself. No matter what you do. No matter when or where. You know the last of the days. It's like an easy trip. When you live alone. You said it all. When you live alone. You said it all. When you live alone. You said it all. And I the bush St. Louis. Well there was more suspense today than yesterday. But the New York Metz with an exciting finish. They've made a two in a row over the Montreal Xbox. Ed Cranbull with a two run homer. Gives Marty Kernayho the win. A young man making his major league debut here this afternoon.

Comes off as the winning pitcher. And Ed Cranbull delivers the game winning blow. A pinch homer. Over to right field. The wind has been shifting around this ballpark. All afternoon long. The flag going first one direction. Then another direction. And the ball obviously got into a win current. Ellis Valentine did not anticipate. Because of the time that he turned and fled toward the wall. It was too late. And the ball disappeared from view. And the New York Metz had won the ball game. And then for the first three innings. As Nina Esponosa was on the mound against Rudy May. But then Montreal in the fourth inning got three. Wayne Garrett led off with a walk. His fire had a base hit. Rudy May sacrificed them along. And then Dave Cash, after Ellis Valentine, had fly the right. Cash tripled to drive into Andre Dawson, singled to drive in another. And Montreal was leading by a score of three to nothing. Well the New York Metz did battle back. Steve Henderson opened up the bottom of the fourth inning with a home run.

That made it three to one. Then the Metz and the fifth got another. When Doug Fen was on on an error. And he was single home eventually by Tim Foley. So it was a three to ball game. And the thought was that the New York Metz were getting back into the game. But Esponosa had been struggling. And so the newest of the Metz obtained the day they left Florida and sprang training from the Cardinals, butch Metzger. Game on in relief. He retired Ellis Valentine, but then Dave Cash had a base hit. Andre Dawson walked. Gary Carter singled to drive in a run. And Tony Perry singled to drive in another. That was all for which Metzger as Bob Murray came in to get the lunch on a double play ball and get him out of the trouble. But Montreal then got two runs in at inning to give them five. And the New York Metz battled back then in the eighth inning to get two on a two run home by Lee Mozilla. William Martin yes was on on an error committed by Sam Lee as when he collided with Andre Dawson. Mozilla hit a two on home in the Metzger. And then in the ninth inning Bruce Bullclair walked and with two men out,

Eddie Cranford homeward over the right to the offense in the Metzger. One advice score is 65. Well the older statesman of the New York Metz Eddie Cranford won it with a two run pinch home run. We'll be back here tomorrow afternoon for a double header. The match in Montreal we'll be on the air at one o'clock tomorrow afternoon. We had a paid crowd today of 7,250 nine, but a total crowd in the ballpark today of 19,118 and here are the final totals. For the New York Metz six runs on six hits and three hours Montreal five runs on 13 hits and three errors. The winning pitches Marty Cornel and the losing pitcher is Stan Votz. And again the final score the Metz six and Montreal five. In the shape of Metz player of the year competition Lee Mozilla gets four points for a home run a double two runs about it end and Ed Crain throw gets six points for his game winning home run. And now it's time for the getty unleaded player for this game. He got the lead out and he is a regular guy and this is what he did to win the award.
