I'd like to forget that Monday, October 5th ever happened. Well, we can at least have some fun with what happened during White Sucks Guardians. As I'm joined by Elijah Evans' co-host of the call up future socks podcast who does an excellent job covering the white socks. I'm Peter Apple.

we're excited this is our first two man podcast together we're good friends we talk baseball all the time but for whatever reason i'm not that excited to talk about baseball but i don't want to rain on your parade because two o'leade all the players that you got in the garic crochet deal are the ones that are crushing it right now but we'll start with Yankees versus raise just how are you feeling okay like can you bring some sunshine to this podcast because it's gonna be all rain for me yeah i personally feel pretty good today i can't lie i think we got a little bit of the opposite emotion thing going on today which is just how it goes you know it's been a long time i i haven't watched this since i was five years old so it's been a little bit for sure and i'm going to enjoy it definitely i wish we had two really exciting games um obviously Yankees raised game race fans are probably feeling great the game itself though i know we're starting with that one like game itself was just pretty ugly from the start um it was one of those games were

like we were in the bottom of the first and it was like this might be a bit of a doozy and it kind of just felt like that out of the gate um i was there did you feel like it was gone in the first or did you feel like there was still something there because it was what it was just it was tough right out of the gate you start the game with an error in the bottom of the first after a clean first um on the top of the first right and then it just felt like it kept spiraling and the Yankees were in it something like they were getting blown out by eight runs i know it felt like they were never really in it even though they were in it by the numbers right it was one to zero well first when Ryan McMahon made that error um on the first play of the game i was like yep over because i've seen this story before you said it yourself you haven't seen you know the white sucks play like this since you were five years old i've seen this same story with the Yankees over and over and over and over again four errors tonight now you might say well Peter was five they corrected one good for us we only had four we saw it in game five of the 2024 world series we saw it throughout

the postseason in 2025 and we're seeing it so far so let me kind of lead the people through what happened this is gonna suck to recap okay so again a disaster first inning for the Yankees McMahon error jazz error that leads to a run wells had this weird catchers interference another jazz error which out of campshire litlar keeps his composure right all the jokes camps litter had to get four outs all things considered he pitched pretty well he only allowed that one run through four innings or at least might have been two i don't know but we're all to go through three perfect he looked fantastic but that ended on a game time Ben Rice Homer we're starting to feel a little bit good Yankees get parolta out two outs on the fifth then they load the bases Belinger smokes one to center i leap off the couch Elijah i leap i'm like yes Belinger Homer why would the race take out parolta put in the lefty Cody Belinger crushes lefty

he connects perfect perfect warning track fly out innings keep going Schlittler allows a ronda to first then caminero to second to open the fifth Hicks springs home the go ahead run on the ground out that for whatever reason jazz chisel him just wasn't playing infielding on simpson adds another on a chopper that George Lombard couldn't handle so officially we had four errors i feel like we had twelve more runs plosios two runs single and gershams throw hit the mound because that's of course just what happens to the new york Yankees so i'm a little raw right now as you could probably tell i'd like to kind of throw it over to you for a couple more thoughts here before we read or after we read this from the new york post camp feels right at home on the trot mound camsletter says all the Yankees fans of trot of canna field give games they're a home field atmosphere patent why did you put that on the screen and you made me read it i didn't even read it before and you had to put that piece of shit

i was starting to forget whatever whatever you know what Elijah final line for camsletter four and a third seven hits four runs two of them are one walk two strike out 76 pitches you know coming off 117 pitch performance against the red socks i didn't expect camsletler to parlay that into a seven inning shut out again uh Yankees gave him no opportunities to really pitch well because everything that was put in play was an error the more teams Elijah forced the Yankees to play baseball the worst the Yankees are remember when the Dodgers were chirping us relentlessly calling our defense just dog shit and all you got to do to beat the Yankees is put the ball in play i was offended by that they're right forced the Yankees to play baseball and they melt yeah i know i'm a spoiled Yankee fan right in my 28 years of life i've seen one championship

that i remember and melts every year and now i know you hear that you're a fan of a team whose team never makes the playoffs probably pissed at hearing about that i know but what i'm telling you is it just tears your heart out every single year Elijah every single year yeah and i can admit if it was a couple of weeks ago i would have bothered me more hearing that right now not as bothered but i can't say anything i could say anything to you right now if you do probably probably a good play but i i feel for for this game particularly and i feel for hamsterly or honestly because i think Peyton brought this up over the weekend like the 117 pitches he's in a tough situation the chop like there were some Yankee fans there but it was definitely a raise home game let's get that clear i know the energy there was a couple a lot of things in mind earlier before the game of like Yankees fans are gonna feel like it's gonna feel like happy Yankees game like that was a raise home game for sure especially with the chop back their their vibes were high there definitely he he battled he didn't have his best but on a day where cam shletway doesn't have his best

you'd hope his defense would pick him up a little bit and you'd hope his defense would give him a little bit of support it was one of those like if you had one bad defensive play cam shletler even without his best probably still could have gotten through five or six innings of a quality start right the fact that the defense was like the worst it's been so far this postseason by a mile and he didn't have his best start with your ace on the mound in a game that you kind of have to win when you're down 1-0 in a five game series it's close to a must-win game i would say i don't know if it's exactly a must-win but it's very close to it and the defense just immediately out of the gate struggling and then continuing to struggle it felt like shletler just had no chance to recover and to get himself through a full start and again it was too or and run it's not like he got shelt but only two strikeouts were used to seeing way more dominant stuff from shletler and in a game where he didn't have his best you need the defense to back you up and they just they didn't out of the gate and it was very clear early on that they were going to be laboring through this game and the defense wasn't able to hold up it's an example and you say this with the Dodgers before that we've seen this before you are correct about that part there's too many games in the last few years in pivotal situations where the Yankees defense

just lapses and they just don't show up and that that was the story tonight i think you could talk about camna being his best but it ultimately comes back to his defense just did not have his back in it and you know what really sucks about that too is when you look across the landscape of the Yankees alignment Ryan McMahon is a great defensive third baseman George Lombard is a good defensive shortstop just chiseled is a very good defensive second basement or at least i would say at first base Ben Rice is in the best but he didn't have any errors Ben Rice should request a trade Ben Rice should request a trade after that performance it was raised five Ben Rice to another multi-homer game for the guy he has been just dragging this Yankees offense who had one hit through their first 12 innings of the ALDS and this comes to us from our twitter account Ben Rice is the first player in Yankees history with two multi-homer games in a single postseason first of all that's shocking to reason sand in the history of the Yankees

he's the first player with two multi-homer on games i almost don't believe that but again it's just it's a credit to Ben Rice but then you look at Austin Wells behind the plate getting back to the defense conversations Trent Christian if i see him jogging to another ball i'm actually going to lose my mind i already lost my mind once the mind's gone but i'm gonna lose it again Cody Belinger's a gold glove caliber defender and left and Spencer Jones is a really solid defender right see look at the alignment you say why is this team just melting what is happening is it a manager thing is it is it that they're just not ready is it a culture thing where their schminkter's just tightened in the biggest moments because it happens over and over again losing my damn mind Elijah i am losing my damn mind i want to give a lot of credit though to the raise offense because again this is a guy in cam schlitler who you know you expected this point 10 punchouts in a start it's a goody's been they only struck out twice that is the raise calling card where they don't strike

out they don't chase outside the zone and they make you play defense what do they do tonight they made the Yankees play defense and they pistol over themselves yeah and it's not like the raise work we're gnashing necessarily but they did take advantage when the Yankees made this mistake right you talk about the situation where you know the the error by lumbar and then on from the diluca grounder right and then polosios like they didn't he came through with another hit and brought in two more runs like that you get to give credits of that because it wasn't like the Yankees pen did their job I mean head head your give up that one hit that hit wouldn't have been in situation if the plays were made in the field right the rest of the bullpen got the job done to the next four innings the bullpen kept it clean for the Yankees and it wasn't the prettiest but they they did their job and the raise they held strong but the Yankees just couldn't fight back and this is another patent gem here from our from our twitter team what's happening are am I being targeted am I being targeted right now with these tweets what is happening here's another tweet from our twitter account Yankees not named Ben Rice through the first two games against the raise three for 52 they're hitting 058 was 17 punchies they're slugging 096 for a 189

OPS pathetic offensively pathetic in the field I have to add two of those three hits are are Austin Wells the record one to pick up the no hitter and then another tonight so really one hit outside of Ben Rice and Austin Wells now and two game series so one of those Austin Wells hits he's rounding second going the third and it's nailed he's not even on base yeah yeah it's uh it's been a rough performance and I think you you can look at it and say I think the easy thing to do is like where's Aaron judge like no even if he had judges in the lineup right like there's no that's not an excuse right you have everybody you have one hit aside from Ben Rice and Austin Wells in a two game series against the raise the raise pitching incredible so we do need to give some shine there on that side of it because the combination of Freddie Peralta and Ian Seymour which wasn't the entire game and then obviously Baker finishing it out those are got one out there but like the duo kind of piggyback of Peralta and Seymour was awesome tonight uh Peralta other than the Homer to Ben Rice who's on fire was really really sharp Freddie I know like when he

he had a rough season in general and then he comes over to the raise and his first handful starts was continually rough September we see him kind of start to turn this corner and it was like look out Freddie Peralta on the raise like he looks pretty good now they go to him in game two of the playoffs for them when I didn't necessarily expect them to go to him originally going into the series turn to him in game two you know he gets four and two thirds all he gives up was a solo Homer turn over to Ian Seymour who's a funky unique pitcher and he just does his thing as a lefty gets three innings of quality ball another you know solo Homer to Ben Rice but basically other than Ben Rice both those guys were pretty much perfect so you give credit where it's due to them but it's hard not to look at the Yankees offense and be like where is any sign of life outside of Ben Rice in this game from then I think you make a great point um making the excuse of no Aaron Judge it's just not a warranted excuse it's not warranted when you make five errors what would Aaron Judge be in the line up doing right and the fact is he'd probably be playing and not doing really well because when he initially came back from the injury he wasn't Aaron Judge because he

clearly wasn't healthy didn't have any rehab games so he's working his way back in majorly games and he's not hitting it all so you can't really run the risk now just inserting him back in the line up and just expecting the Aaron Judge to return so that's not a good excuse there are no excuses for this and what's so infuriating is that it just continues to happen and that's all I really have but you're right on the race because you know one team is folding there's a reason they're folding is because the race continue to put the ball in play and they're pitching I mean Freddie Proleto looked diabolical his fastball was up to 97 miles an hour he was throwing four who's riding it was tailing away from lefties and of course that change up like the race did a really good job when they acquired him and they're just smarter than us like a reference on Freddie too just to add a little bit of color there too his average Velo tonight was up two and a half miles an hour from during the season this year the whiffs were higher than they'd

been all year the stuff even had a little more vert on it like he was just great and I know that's like playoff adrenaline sure and it started to go that direction towards the end of the season but when you have a guy that's set 94 during the season and he's sitting 97 topping at 98 tonight with a little bit more ride on it and he's just pounding his own to it when he was he was basically just fastball change up all night he didn't even go at anything outside he threw the through three curve balls it was just otherwise it was just completely fastball change up just flicking it in there and and locating well and then throwing it higher Velo than he's been and he just he carved through that lineup pretty easily it was one bad pitch the Ben Rice and otherwise he was pretty much sharp it's another good point too it just makes me feel even worse because it's like you know forget the errors for a second forget the errors for a second Yankees aren't hitting there's so many things to be mad at because it's one thing for a team to fold defensively but then they're also folding offensively I guess the reason why I'm not as mad about them folding offensively is because again I just respect the raise pitching and the way that they mix and match what they've done for

Freddie how good your assness in is how good the raise ball pen is but you could control what you can control and you could control the defense and it was just absolutely pathetic and Peyton I'm sorry that we skipped the stat that you pulled up might as well just throw it back up again and it's pro raise so it's not going to make me you know that upset it's just a credit to them the only team since 2010 to strike out fewer than 10 times in their first two games of the postseason it's a 2010 Phillies against the Cincinnati Reds the 2025 Jays against the Yankees and the 2026 raise against the Yankees these last two post seasons man I mean that that Jays team we saw it that I was a crazy series last year obviously which we saw and the Razer are looking like that I mean that lineup is just tough because there's guys like I don't think the general baseball fans watching these games now especially people that don't watch the raise on a regular basis you're not thinking about Johnny DeLuca and Richie Palacios and Taylor Walls and thinking of anything really right and like they may not even put up best numbers but the bats are tough they're they grind out

of bats and they make you stress and that's why they don't strike out at all they strike out less than 10 times now in these two games and they just they put you on blast and I know Garrett Cole might not be the best version of himself anymore can't slip their neb at best night but like those are two like former and soon to be Sai Young winners and the raise don't punch out against them at all in two games they made them work they forced them to throw more pitches than they would want to and they put them in a position where they they kept the Yankees on their heels so you do have to give credit there and even without home runs like you know there's going to be a game where Cam and Arrow goes deep you know there's going to be a game where you you know you see around to go deep but like there's more another game part of me that there's more of that in the tank for them but at least in the time being they just made two very very good pitchers work really hard by not striking out at all just one of those games where the Yankees just crushed my soul we're going to talk about game three on tomorrow's show in this episode right we're going to re we're going to predict the NL DS game three so right now I think it's a good time for a break I could use

one but congratulations to the raise up to zero beaten the shit out of the Yankees an indivision rival who runs a payroll that's about what 200 million north of them the Yankees were favorites in both games and look what happened well that's not sure they were the favorites in the Rasmussen game but the Yankees were the favorites to win the series and Elijah when I had a clear head I said the Yankees would beat the Red Sox when I made my bracket Yankees would beat the Red Sox then they get strangled in Tampa I said that and then what happened yeah we beat the Red Sox I was feeling good about myself and I did it again I'll never learn I'll never you also pick the Astros I got to mention so you know I did pick the ass sure but I did pick the once I got rid of that what's up to me and I picked the white socks over the Guardians I was alone once it could be a little bit of great for actually you know what don't give me any credit I'm a loser I'm just a loser Elijah my team sucks my prediction suck about loser we need a break podcast peak we hear from our friends at Hampton Farms I want to at least see me act

up to zero you said it yourself you haven't seen this since you were what five years old you're facing a Cleveland team that you've seen win the division always in the playoffs you're seeing Cleveland fans of the time of their lives and now you go into Cleveland and when back to back games you're now going back to the rate and all you got to win is one this was an interesting one because Gavin Williams was awesome immediately the second the game started I was watching Gavin Williams for Cleveland and it was like this guy is gonna shove he comes in and he looked great out of the gate the white socks were taking terrible at bats frankly the first couple endings of that game meanwhile the socks go with an Anthony K opener which was you know his transition into a relief roll just pitched out of the pen in the last game too opens this game to get the lefties struggles a little early can't find the zone there's just a weird the defensive and difference on an error but a weird play Anthony K gets pulled after just three hitters there's two runners on newcom comes in can't throw a strike ends up intentionally walking a del see got bases loaded

a crazy error Sean newcom just botches a throw Cleveland goes up to oh in the first inning and it very much felt like a game of the white socks guardians past history where Cleveland could just dominate early run with it from there however as much as Gavin Williams was carving five strike outs in the first two innings he was sitting a hundred this is the guy who had been sitting you know 97.6 for my reward is hitting sitting just a tick below 100 in those first two innings he's making his way through this lineup with ease third inning comes along he's still doing it fourth inning comes along the white socks start to string together some better at bats you see some longer bats you see some some lengthy contact they're putting it together they're getting into a groove where you at least get something when a talk of more a commie uh drives in a run in that inning on a sink on an RBI single off of the after a teal single and in a gal Vargas walk they get one run they end up not getting more from there but they at least push Gavin Williams a little bit he ends up leaving in the top of the fifth at this point part I should say before that Sean Burke entered after the opener and then Sean newcom and very quickly shut down the Cleveland

offense the entire outing from Sean Burke ends up being excellent he came in in that fourth inning and was just dollar third inning and was just dominant from then on top of the six comes along the white socks Gavin Williams getting down his pitch counts getting up there he gets pulled after league getting letting Miguel Vargas on to start that inning tough inning there they worked through it pretty a Montgomery with a huge go ahead double this is a guy that you knew at some point was gonna come I I felt that some way brain and Montgomery's gonna come through he comes through with that double in the sixth inning the white socks take the lead chase my draft tax on with another one gets them up an insurance run for two at this point from then on Sean Burke an absolute cruise control this was the Sean Burke show from this point on he goes all the way into the eighth inning with two outs in the eighth they decide to pull him Grant Taylor coming off with a four inning save just two days ago enters the game at this point gives up a run first pitch he throws gives up a triple that almost got out and would have tied the game to Joe Adele four three game the keep Taylor in just seven pitches to get four outs for Grant Taylor from that point

on sick of five pitch ninth inning one two three and the white socks finish it out with a four three win this was nuts Peter at I was a little bit long winded there I'm still working on my full recaps but it was crazy and the the wildest thing about it is early on the way Gavin Williams was throwing in the way the white socks bats were looking I thought this game was gonna be over soon in the second third inning and then they just found a way to force Williams pitch count up they made him struggle a little bit and they just got enough to get him out of the game the second he comes out the white socks take it over Sean Burke with another huge start the breakout from him this season has been huge and it can't be understated how massive he came up for them in this game when otherwise it would have just been a bullpen day but they trusted John and he gave him five and a third of just really sharp ball there incredibly impressive too because the white socks bullpen was not in a great position right grant Taylor still entered the game which was surprising to me but you know a lot of guys like Jordan Hicks and a couple others that it was good to kind of get a a rest day out of them because Sean Burke handled most of it I mean Anthony K lasted two outs then

Newcom came in and then Burke just shut the door I think he's kind of the MVP of this game but you know I look back on that trade the Garakro Shade trade is looking like one of the best trades for the white socks that we've seen in a really really long time Kyle Teal, Brad Montgomery, Chase Mydroff and Wilcomin Gonzalez in exchange for Garakro Shade just breakdown how important those three guys have been to the white socks in this game and just a pair of season they drove all four runs were produced by that trio today so first of all this game is all on the back of Garakro Shade trade of course and adds a whole Kyle Teal this this playoffs in general I mentioned this when we were on thank you other day he has changed the position for the white socks because the catching position for the white socks was the worst in baseball by a little bit of a wide margin all season long with Kyle Teal dealing with multiple injuries hamstring and then he goes out again he only played a handful of games the regular season when he came back his challenges with ABS

he's been shot on he's stolen him he's gotten a bunch of strikes back for the white socks even in just these first four playoff games nonetheless any pitchers just love working with him it's just so clear how big of a difference he's made on the defensive side of the ball and then the other side the other two Mydroff has been one of the most consistent hitters in this lineup all season whereas Brad Montgomery he got called up a lot earlier than I expected honestly I thought he'd be like a September guy and he came up and he'd June this season he's had his ups and downs he had a couple big hits early he really struggled down the stretch August September turned it on the last couple weeks the season you started to see Brad Montgomery have these at bats and you were like this guy looks like he's finding it a little here in the post season he's had two huge at bats now and today with the biggest one of them all taking a you know from a one two game from down a run to leading a run with a huge RBI double and he just looks like he's only gonna get better so that trio man I mean it's it's pretty crazy that the white socks have won a playoff series before the red socks since trading their ace to Boston before these prospects at the time so I I might be a little bullish of me but like I think it's kind of fair to say that's a it's a trade trade win for the white socks it's still a win for the red socks I know Garrich Rache last season was

a superstar Saiyong finalist right that said the white socks have three pieces of that are probably gonna be starting in their lineup for five years plus each and were the reason they won this game honestly from the offensive side of the ball so I want to also talk about the Cleveland side of the ball because you know largely they've been disappointing and I think it starts you know with with the bats like going into this game knowing you're up one zero knowing that you're on the road facing a Gavin Williams like what were your expectations for the game and I guess what were you surprised by by what you saw from the results yeah I think Gavin Williams I expected to be tough and he was that's the crazy thing is he was so good real quick real real quick we were I was talking in the discord and I don't know if you saw my message but I said first like two or three innings I said that's the best any pitcher has looked through the first couple innings of a postseason start I mean he was hitting a one a one he was sitting a hundred miles an hour he was

placing that curveball and I was typing I was like when Gavin Williams is in the zone this guy can win Sai Young's right and you could see his velocity ready average 97.6 during the regular season he was averaging 99.5 during the start sweep around 87 regular season 89 now curve balls up sinker up to 99 with a cutter at 94 when it's normally at 92 this guy was on his game and then it seemed like Elijah as soon as he started losing it a little bit not even a lot not just you know giving it a way to the White Sox he just wasn't as stellar the White Sox just pounced and it's another example of giving this White Sox team an inch and they just continue to take a mile kind of no matter who they face because and I think the reason why I switched my prediction to the White Sox for the series

was people were kind of saying well do we really buy the White Sox offense the Asher's pitching was very good and I was like wait a minute Hunter Brown is one of the best pitchers in the world and they got him out on what and inning first inning they hit Brian a bra you put up good A B's against Josh Hader so every of the all of the best pitchers that Houston had to offer the White Sox did away with them and it just seems like unless you're sitting 101 and throwing it wherever you want with a banger curve ball the White Sox are going to crush you and that's exactly what happened to Gavin Williams once he lost it a little bit White Sox just jumped on him right and with that said though I still think this is like way more blame on the Cleveland offense than the defense because they really and they give it three runs yesterday and four runs today you should be able to win a game by giving up three runs than four runs Williams today 22 whips for Gavin Williams and like yeah he gave up those couple runs and he got a little weird down a little at the end there but like he was great the part that surprises me the most on the flip side of it is just how bad this Cleveland offense has been honestly and again credits the White Sox pitching of course I think Sean

Berksman also and Grant Taylor has been fabulous in the playoff so far this Cleveland offense just has been really really bad man I was looking for the stat I'm sure Peyton has it pulled up dude but the Guardians offense in these first two games is seven for 61 so it's it's it's similar wine is that minus Ben Rice stat on the Yankee side of it the Guardians are seven for 61 with 21 strikeouts and an OPS under 400 and Chase the Lotter had a couple nice hits today so it's not Chase the Lotters fall but aside from Chase the Lotter man like there just there wasn't like an AB that was good I mean Joe Adele had that near Homer but it was a first pitch hunting fastball just selling out for a heater down in the zone the only abats today where I was like oh that was a nice at that was Chase the Lotter four total hits two of them were the Lotter like he was the only person in that lineup putting together good at bats I mean Jose Ramirez is non-existent right now I doesn't have a head in these two games I mean the only guy with like I know I mean nobody nobody on this team's hitting more than has more than two hits in the series so far so it just the Guardians offense has disappeared I think it goes both ways I want to make sure

as yes I cover the White Sox but like give credits the White Sox pitching because the creative bullpen game weird opener every game thing plus Sean Burke today has been awesome the Guardians offense has also been brutal man these at bats are just they're not even like they're not putting up a fight really for the most part I mean they got two runs in the first off of bad pitching off of a while multiple walks in an error and then they did nothing the rest of the game they'd not at all so the Guardians like that's I think that's my biggest surprise to go back to your question is just like I didn't think Cleveland's offense was gonna be great I didn't think they were gonna be terrible yes and again credit to Sean Burke but at the same time like they were missing some middle middle heaters when Sean Burke was challenging them and good on Sean Burke he kind of said all right I dare you to hit my fastball none of you guys are hitting and what is he and what were they doing not hitting the fastball Jose Rivera's on Helm Martinez Brian Roqueo all hitless Stephen Quan batting a buck 43 and you know the Yankees and their melting and how it happens every single season in the playoffs it seems like every single season in the playoffs like this Guardians

offense starts to melt because think about it they put up three runs today what happened on the first two Elijah had they score the first two walks in an error exactly like it wasn't because you know they were hitting the ball out of the ballpark or anything it happened because of guardball where you know they put the ball play credit to them they tested the White Sox defense Sean Newcombe spikes it into the ground and you got two runs and the Guardians are often running and then they scored one more run from there how are the Guardians expected to compete when they can't hit year after year after year after year and I think that's what's so infuriating if you're a Guardians fan too because you get to the spot you know you have the pitching you know you have the bullpen you know you have the defense you know you have the base running and this season you have young studs because it's not just Jose Ramirez Steven Kwan and all of their boys anymore like they have to lauder they have Bazzana they have Roqueos had a good season on how Martinez is a fine bat like you go through the rest of the lineup like Joe Adele has been pretty good I'm not saying

these are world beaters but it's a better offense than it's been in previous seasons and I think that's why some people are excited about the Guardians yeah going into the playoffs and yet it's just another season of the Guardians offense not showing up now good things changing game three of course this series is not over but at the same time if the Guardians don't hit they're facing a white socks team that it almost feels like a less you're perfect they're going to beat the shit out of you it just seems like a really bad matchup and the white socks might come out with a sweep here yeah and it's a it's evidently biased of me I will admit but I do think that the atmosphere on Wednesday I'm gonna be there I'm going to Chicago for it I think the atmosphere is gonna be ridiculous it's been a while white socks fans got their one fun game in 2021 in the Luri Garcia Legend Homer other than that it's been 18 years that the white socks have been been waiting for then 22 2008 was the last actual playoff series with home games and other than that Houston one 2005 was the last playoff series where you can you know be on the road I saw

a crazy stat online I forgot who it was I wish I could attribute the last time the socks had a chance to clinch a series at home was 1906 World Series the 1906 World Series was the last of the white socks clinched a playoff series at home all the 2005 ones up to the World Series was on the road 2008 they won the bat 2021 they lost at home 1906 was the last time they clinched a playoff series on their home turf they'll have two chances to do it this week see is it almost I'm just thinking to myself like do you wish that you were at least guaranteed two games at the rate or you glad that you're up to zero and you're run with that for sure and I will say the last thing I'll say about the pitching to it and yes the Guardians of it's been bad look at this stat and clean look at this stat the Guardians of it the two games this postseason is hitting a buck 15 there's seven for 61 there's slug in 180 they got 21 punchies 398 OPS that's credit the white

socks pitching but it's the same thing over and over again for the Cleveland offense in the postseason yeah what I was gonna say with the white socks pitching side of it there you go and Jolly Oliver's that one is so I saw insane insane it is the white socks bullpen and you have to give credit here because yes you say what you want about Houston and Cleveland's offenses they've been bad no doubt about that with that said the white socks the bullpen like super bullpen crazy like I haven't I don't remember if you remember seeing this like I don't remember seeing something where a team goes into the playoffs and basically just says like we have one starting pitcher everybody else is throwing versatile multiple inning bullpen spot starts openers like it's happened before but this is a really unique approach from a pitching standpoint I think the white socks took the fact that they know that this roster has a lot of young guys and a lot of guys who have the capability to go multiple innings but aren't necessarily starters they didn't feel confident in the idea of full start for an Eric Fettie for Anthony Kay so instead let's just have 10 guys in the bullpen that we feel can give us multiple innings when we need to Hagen Smith opening Grant Taylor giving

you multiple innings saves Jordan Hicks going two innings and then the wild cards are like they're taking a very unique approach and they're pitching is still really fresh there's an off day tomorrow and other than Sean Burke and maybe Sean Newcombe who threw 40 pitches tonight everybody else is available come Wednesdays game three is great to see yeah for sure you only you seven pitches tonight I know but it's just 42 pitches then yeah yeah it's only 47 pitches across four days and then I mean I think he is if needed for a save I think you're right and seen anything you haven't seen any Davis Martin who could be a bulk guy he's the other starter who didn't start today because they went bullpen and they went Burke they went bullpen in game one Davis Martin can be give you bulk you haven't seen David Samson since game one of the wild card who can also give you bulk haven't seen Noah Shultt once who can give you bulk so Eric Feddy only threw one inning in the wild card there that's four guys already that are traditionally starters and we're more pitching as starters at some point this season who can give you multiple innings potentially in the bullpen so aside from Sean Burke and maybe Sean Newcombe basically everybody else on the roster from pitching standpoint is available I think it's going to be Hagen again in game three I know we're not doing full predictions for it but

like I do think they're going to go right back to the well of just Hagen Smith get some of the left of the top of the lineup and then flip it over to the rest of the bullpen and see what happens because it's worked twice now working game one of both series so like I think they're going to go right back to the Hagen Smith opener with a bunch of guys ready to go behind him for one to two innings each and see how it goes and with the guardian side of it like the white sucks just beat your two aces where are you going now the white sucks beat your two starting pictures who you were expecting to be your top dogs by beside a rough season foster Griffin's been rough since the deadline you're going to go with one of those two probably and then see what happens what it means you can tell oh yeah I don't know but it's basically bullpen versus bullpen and the best bullpen in the playoffs this season so far has been the white sucks which is kind of crazy but so far in the post season it's been the best baseball this you know bullpening baseball my last question for you because I'm sure you remember when the Tigers and the bullpen chaos came in you know there was a lot of praise heaped on AJ Hinge I haven't heard the same praise heaped on Will Venable and on the last show I gave Walt Weiss a lot of credit for the way that he managed that kind of bullpen game with Ray Kerr and

letting do you if went as go and I thought he did an excellent job Will Venable has been doing this over and over again with all because again you got to crowd all these young personalities and get them in the right mindset to go on the road and win playoff games go into Dyken Park beat the Ashows go into progressive field of Cleveland go beat the Cleveland Guardians managing the bullpen the entire time managing all these young personalities like he is doing a phenomenal job for the white sucks filling the cracks of everything I miss you know you hit it on the nail there the guys just like him like being it spring training this past two years like they just really like him I think he relates a lot I think they really enjoy playing for him also a whole pitching staff behind him you know you got guys like Zach Boe of Matt Celesky there's a whole crew Brian Bannister at the top down right like I think it's a top down thing from the whole organization that that's really going into this pitching and taking this unique approach with it to Will Venables credit that like I don't have a vote but I think he's gonna get a lot of votes and it's probably the favorite for a male manager of the year I think and seems like it and I you think he's gonna get it over Kevin

Caffin because again it does have relative expectations maybe that's my thinking it doesn't factor in the playoffs that's yeah I know I just think relative expectations of a team that was 100 losses last year made the playoffs rather than the raise but the race also exceeded expectations the race I could see it going both ways the raise you know did miss the playoffs last year and then won 96 games in the American League that's fair I think that is very I think Kevin Cash is gonna win it but again the two and the only one and two for sure will that will do an amazing job during this year yeah he deserves the credit and yeah I just think it's it's the willingness to be quick triggered with the pitching decisions but also very calculated they're being very thoughtful and and planning ahead matchups to get you know the way you can hit certain pockets of lineup differently he said today it was really interesting he said they asked him how we thought that the pitching plan was going after the second inning because they'd given at that point they were down 2-0 and to me K came out after one out and he said you know the plan was to get K and Nukem through Juan the second time so they going you know the game they were like we have two lefties and between the two lefties we want to get through Stephen Cwan at the top of the lineup again that that was

unique that to me was like the signal of like they're they're really thinking about this and they did they got it to yeah they give up two runs in the process but they got the ball to Sean Burke after getting through the second time of Stephen Cwan exactly with two lefty opener starting reliever like it was there there's just a very clear plan but also a trust in his guys were like granteilers their guy like he's the got number one guy leverage both these games it was like we got to get this game done with it's a close game granteiler the ball is yours and he did it so it's the combination of trust in the guys but also a very very strategic and calculated plan I think by benevolent his staff great work by the white socks there are two oh game three at the rate on Wednesday it's going to be a banger we're going to take one more quick break and then Elijah and I are going to pick our game three winners in the NLDS podcast P can I get a whoosh okay Dodgers versus braves first game up Yoshino Buyama moto taking on Chris sale and if we

remember Chris sales last start against the Dodgers was die a ballacle complete game I think what do you allow five hits and it ended in a one zero win for the braves so who pitched for the Dodgers Yoshino Buyama moto who had six at a third I think he only gave up one or run and when you look at you know the current rosters and how they do against each pitcher the braves are only hitting 196 and striking out 31% of the time against Yamamoto and the Dodgers are only hitting 200 with a 27% K rate Elijah on bed MGM to straight pick him minus 110 that's what they're they're calling it a 50 50 shot on this game can't wait to watch I am worried a little bit about Otani right now because he doesn't look like the same Otani and it seems like whenever he faces he can't turn down a

slider from a lefty he just can't turn down he's going to swing at it now he's got a couple of hits here and there but it's not the same Otani and this Dodgers team I said it in the last episode just kind of lacks emergency and maybe they bring it here because at the end of the day it's really really hard for me to doubt the Dodgers I know it was in a great performance but I don't think any of us expected well maybe I did that they would sweep their way through the entire playoffs right they've had series where they were down right back in last year in the world series they came from behind in order to beat the blue jays so they know what it's like when they're backs against wall a little bit but at the same time you got to feel really good if you're the brave so you got Chris sale on the bump at home at truest and you gave him the appropriate amount of rest now where he can look like Chris sale instead of going in a game two you rest game two you get the extra day of rest and now what is he pitching on four days rest so you should get a relatively vintage

sale performance I know I just keep going back and forth but it's price is a pick we should be going back and forth it is a toss up where you at on the toss up dude I have no clue this is still such a good game and part of me thinks part of me thinks we're gonna end up with like a weird game where both of them get hit because we're talking about how amazing they're going to be right and that's how baseball is sometimes I still I really want to pick the brave like I want to pick the braves and I just can't do it I think it's gonna be the weird kind of inverse of that last time these two faced off where it's incredibly close they both shove but the Dodgers come out in like a two one type of game I think the Dodgers are gonna pull through I know we haven't seen the urgency but I have a feeling you're gonna see somebody in the Dodgers you know big boppers just come through with a huge homer of some sort or a huge hit and you're gonna see them pull it out really close then again like Chris sale is a different animal in the playoffs we know that so is young moto they both are that's what makes it so crazy I love me some Chris sale it's one of my favorite pictures ever I'm gonna go Dodgers but I don't feel good about that at all yeah I'm with

you I'm gonna go Dodgers but I don't feel good about it one bit and the reason I'm gonna go Dodgers is we forget how good Yamamoto is right we're talking about how good Chris sale is in that game where the braves won one to zero Yamamoto was brilliant Yamamoto has been brilliant all season long and he's on full rest here he's got to be feeling great and he doesn't care about going in on the road this is a post he's a legend we're talking about and Chris sale he's a different cat the post season because he brings like a level of F you like he's an animal out there on the mound got the save we'll do anything to help the team win but at the end of the day it did give up three runs in his first start and we do know that going into this post season Chris sales ERA started with a six in the post season Yamamoto has no problems in the post season and I think he'll slightly edge out on the mound Chris sale it's a really close game I'm with you Dodgers win like two to one three to two

one of those type of games but if the braves won I don't think either of us would be surprised at all not at all the braves could go through a seven inning shutty and I'd be like great we're trying we're picking between a literal toss up a priced toss up that's what we're trying to do here now moving over the brewers in the podraes you got Dustin May on the mound from Milwaukee 930 pm Easter and start time so for all those east coasters expect to late night here Dustin may have some pretty good numbers against the podraes current roster 166 played appearances they've seen them plenty 219 a pot and batting average with a 20% K rate and on the other side the brewers current roster has done pretty well against pavetta they're hitting 304 in 82 played appearances but do you know where Dustin May's best start of the season came is the middle of the season he's pitching for the Cardinals and he threw a 9 inning one hitter guess who it was again at that go it was against the San Diego

podraes now is he going to throw a one hitter again probably not um but he's got to be feeling good going in knowing hey I got this in my back pocket like I've seen what it's like to completely obliterate a podraes offense but at the same time the podraes are favorites because it's hard to go against them in Peco and the way I predicted the series Elijah was I said the brewers are going to win both Milwaukee the podras are going to win both at San Diego and then the brewers are going to win the fifth I said every team is going to win their home game but after looking at pavetta's numbers I know pavetta ended the season really really well but if there's only like a few teams who I'd pick to go into San Diego and win right now number one would be the Dodgers braves with sale and the brewers I'm kind of leaning the brewers but the only reason I'm leaning brewers is guy of my gambling brain like they're giving me plus one 15 yeah right so it's like if I

was actually a straight pick I might probably go with the podraes is it's again another toss up to me to me the game should be 50 50 in my mind yeah because I still think the brewers are the better team I really do but where are you at it seems like you're more leaning podras I think yeah I think it's funny because I was already coming in thinking I was leaning podraes I think the fact of all those numbers you laid out that kind of give brewers makes me even more convicted on podraes I can't like I think that's just I get that right I think it's like throw my I can't like Dustin may has been great against the podras I think the podras might light him up that's kind of like going I think I still think the brewers could then finish it in four in San Diego because I do think there are good enough team right now to win in San Diego for sure I just I think the podras like those were just brutal losses and there there's a chance they just roll over right like there is a real world right after two losses like they had a Milwaukee with the roof gate followed by that and Mason Miller you know whatever like there's a chance they just roll over and die and the brewers just smoke them and it's a sweep and it's over with I do think they fight enough to where they

they get out they get revenge on me they hit well in this game they pull it out and they probably losing for but I still think I think they have enough fighting them left at least on the offensive side of the ball where they're gonna hit me but that is gonna hold on for a decent start their bullpen will lock in and get the job done so I'm going podras here but if they like just rolled over and lost by like eight it also wouldn't shock me I kind of think it's like either direction I almost I sense a lopsided one in either way because we saw both those two first games were legitimately toss ups really really toss ups in the moment I lean that it's a podra's significant win but I yeah you can see it both ways of course I'm gonna pick the brewers and the biggest reason for that is we both pick the Dodgers and if we both pick again then you know it's you know we got to have a little bit of fun here but at the same time mine is more about price and hey all the talk has been about the podras bullpen and I just kept banging the drum saying hey this brewer's bullpen is just as good it's just as good yeah and guess who's blinked in both games

Audrey bullpen right who's to say they won't blink again right yeah so I just have so much respect for Milwaukee if May comes in with some confidence and knowing that the brewers current roster has some good numbers against Nick Pavetta again let's look at some specific bats that have done well like Christian yellow it's just seven for 18 against Pavetta um these numbers actually like are a little bit they're a little bit inflated because it's like Andrew Vaughn is three for ten is he even gonna play Gary Sanchez is three for six is he gonna play South Freelik is two for five it's interesting a lot of like the more bench pieces have really good numbers against Nick Pavetta it'll be interesting to see what that brewers lineup looks like against Pavetta and credits Pavetta to ended the season just so well he was so dominant so he could easily you know coming

in fire great start but I guess that's kind of my point about the brewers is I think Nick Pavetta could throw well and we could get another one of these games where it's tied and it's whose bullpen blinks first and maybe it's the podra is again maybe it's the brewers we'll see I think it's a 50 50 ball game so if you're giving me a good price on Milwaukee I'm probably going to take it but I think that's it for this episode of the just baseball show this is a blast Elijah really happy that you came on and podcast P when we post the audio later let's just cut the whole Yankees race I don't think anyone needs to hear about that but that's why you come here on YouTube to watch the whole damn thing thank you to everybody joining us here live on YouTube the best way to support these YouTube live streams is just by liking the video hitting the big red subscribe button we're gonna go live after every single postseason game so every night you're gonna get an episode it's gonna be a combination of all the staff here at just baseball and keep the comment section flowing and for all those listening on audio after the fact best way to support just by
