Here's my gluten burger is. Oh, it caught a mic. Root and toot and fresh and fruity. I go to Quincy Williams. I was in Jacksonville with Quincy and we drafted him. Quincy and I connected from the heart from the start. It went heart to football and we spent a lot of time on our hearts and a lot of time on football. If Tom Muck and Flames Ock, we just make this guy the headcoat because easy, easy as hell to read. Hey, let me tell you guys about Quincy Williams. Then we're going to sign him. Oh, okay. Hey, we're probably not. He tell you just told you like, hey, they're down with bringing back Devon Bush. Everybody, they're down bringing back Devon Bush. I got this guy comes up there. Go, let me tell you about a guy named Quincy Williams. Let me tell you about that fellow. That's okay. Just for people that don't know. That was last week. Yeah. Just last week. Yeah. If Quincy Williams were a bigger man, would this be considered tampering? Yeah, maybe talking about a free agent like this. I don't need to give up picks over Quincy Williams. No, I don't. I just, I just, uh, I just, you surprised to hear a coach say his name that far out. Yeah. So it reminds me of, and I hope
Quincy Williams is a much better player than the name I'm going to say, but it reminds me of a player that they brought in from Minnesota when Kevin came in Andrews and Dejo. Like he came in to be like the veteran guy that kind of knows how the locker room works. Mr. Fansky went and grabbed Austin Hooper. Right. Yesterday, not to be, not to be their starting tight end, but he's been, he'd been in Atlanta and been with Stephansky. Yeah. That's right. They all, it's been so long since we had a new coach. They all do this. I'm like, oh, we, yeah, they all got their got Jim. Remember Jim Leonard? Yeah. And eventually he got to just fair catch the punts. Yep. We don't have anybody who could even fair catch the punt. Jim was able to fair catch the punts. Well, that was what got me. Good guy. This, this predates our station, but Man Genie. That was nobody questioned like Man Genie could coach a football team. And the problem was that Man Genie wanted, you know, 40 Man Genie disciples to go with them wherever he went. It's like, well, your players are good enough. Right. You can have a few of those guys. You can have a few of those
unfortunately also locker room lawyers, right? That gets brought up from time to time. Yeah. So you got to, you got to steer clear. If you're other guys, because there's guys who are, they're, you got to be able to fill the balance of it. I mean, there's guys that are for lack of a better term. There's guys who are stooges, which they end up just, you know, ratting on the guys in the locker room. They're careful with that too. You want guys who could be a conduit, who can tell you exactly what the locker room's feeling, because the coaches can't just go walk around the locker room and doing that. That's the players domain in the NFL. You rarely, if ever see coaches in that locker room. And if they are, they're just passing through. They, they really just walk around the hallways around it. They do not go in there. And so you're going to need guys that can find that balance of, they're trusted by their teammates, but they're also going to be trusted by the guys who brought them in to try to find how the locker room's feeling and how to take care of things. If you can't have, just always can't have those one-on-one conversations. So that's where some of those guys, you know, Gary Barney, Jim Leonard, like we talked about, you guys just mentioned several names. Guys who are, are there guys and maybe Quincy Williams is that guy probably
with Mike Routenberg. Again, I think that he's a good character guy. I think that he'll, he'll be able to respond. As far as being like a great, great, great player, I think he'll be solid. But that's where we're at. That's why I'm not disappointed in this. I know that there were some people. I know that there were some media who were looking for some sort of crazy moves. I think that they just wanted to be excited about yesterday. Zion Johnson is not an exciting move. Quincy Williams isn't really an exciting move, but what they are, I think they're practical moves that make you a little bit better. Now, it does shift our focus. Again, we got John Greco joining us at eight 20 this morning. It shifts our focus into what the future of Joel Betonio is, whether he's retiring or whether he's heading on to other places, because I wouldn't blame him. And I don't think there's a brown fan out there that would blame him for heading on to other places. It's just we never really contemplated. We thought it was going to be Brown's retirement. But he was one of those that never gave us any kind of indication that he wanted to go chase something with another team. Whatever. But do we truly know any of these guys? I was going to take this segment to a different
place. And I still might take it there. Okay. Can I just get this off my chest about Joel? We spent the whole last year. Think about this. And Joel, Joel, why people like Joel, I'll just be honest, the reason why, if he and I like Joel, we know Joel listens and we know Joel doesn't take anything personally. He takes it for what it is. Okay. He does. He's not going to stare you down in the corner there. And by the way, Joel's played well enough throughout his entire career. He's really immune to any sort of strong criticism, by the way, as well. So it makes it easier for him to listen. But we know that Joel listens to the radio station. We know that Joel listens to the show and we know that Joel's a good guy. All right. So it makes it easier to do it. But if Joel's listening to the media and Joel's hearing it, think about what we said for the entire last year. Oh my gosh. This guy's such a great player. He's everything you'd want in a Cleveland Brown. We're getting choked up and emotional about him, possibly not playing in the playing for the Browns anymore. And then the conversation becomes Hall of Fame. Could he have been a Hall of Famer? Well, you know, if they went to the playoffs more than two times and they went deeper than just the division around,
maybe he would be a Hall of Famer. He's an offensive lineman, offensive lineman, unless they're Joe Thomas or John Hannah or a couple of other guys, like they have to play in Super Bowls to be considered legit Hall of Famers. And here's a guy that if he would have played for a really competitive team, would have been a would have been a Hall of Famer. Now if he ends up with another team this year and ends up playing in the Hall of Fame, I don't know how much more that does for him in terms of the Hall of Fame. But you can't help but thank you for Joel Betonio. All right. I can call it a career. I've made over a hundred million dollars in my career. I got a lifetime of money as long as I'm not stupid. I got a lifetime ahead of me for the most part I'll have my health. I'm sure later on it'll catch up. But that's fine. I got a great year underneath me. I'm feeling better than I thought I would feel. Maybe there's a competitive team that's out there whirling off from me. Ten plus million dollars a year that I can go to and play possibly for Super Bowls with. And even if you don't make the Hall of Fame, which is again, that's a stretch. Okay. I could
compete for Super Bowls the first time ever. You know, I know New England might be in their media. They're talking about bringing him in. Other teams are talking about bringing him in. Now I know the New England has made some moves here recently. I think they brought in Elijah Vera Tucker, which will probably change things obviously for that. But there's other competitive teams. And if they're thinking about a guy like Joel Betonio, he may still eventually decide to retire. But he may, you can't blame him for kicking the tires on. You know, if I close the door here, that's it. I'm going to lose this weight and that's going to be the end of it. And I'm not going to be able to play this game anymore. But if there's good. This episode is brought to you by progressive. Most of you aren't just listening right now. You're driving, cleaning, and even exercising. Headed to football teams willing to give him good money to play for their team. You can't blame Joel for considering it, especially after you've heard nothing but great things about yourself over the last year. And I don't think anybody's out there blaming them. It's just the simple facts and things. But the Browns, you know, they got to go younger. I understand they got to go younger. I understand they might they probably have to go maybe a little bit cheaper or the going rate. I can understand where the Browns are coming from. I don't think they're jettisoning it. Joel out the door. Well, I think that this was a fine end of last
year. And if he ends up playing for a really competitive team out there, this big time coaching change too. Yes. And that's not to say that he's going to go follow us to fans again Atlanta, but it's like he had probably grown accustomed over six years, you know, to that kind of stability. So once you shake that up, you know, maybe he wants to go see what it's like one more year somewhere else. If he if he were going to places like I can't I can't blame him, but I would have to say like if he went to a team like Atlanta, who I, I the NFC soft wide open. So you can't say it's it's a given that they're not going to make the playoffs. I just don't take them as a really competitive strong football team. I thought their defense showed some things last year. I'm just I know you mentioned Kevin. That's what I'm saying. If he ended up with Atlanta, I'm be like, okay, fine. Like there'd be a lot of okay fine. If he ended up in Kansas City, somehow I'm just naming teams off the top of my head. I'm not sure they're offensive line situations. If he ended up in Kansas City, if he ended up in Philadelphia, if he ended up in
other places, I go, okay, that that makes a ton of sense. You can go ring Jason. God bless you. Like that's kind of where it is. But for for the Browns offensive line, like yeah, they're going to move on and it's it's still on Andrew Barry where you have not been able to find a guy that you trust to replace him because what you're supposed to do and it can't happen with every position. I know there's misses, but especially when it comes to the offense and when it comes to the offensive line, there's a ton of misses here. There's too many misses here and that falls on the general manager for this again. Do I spend money? Do I Jones injured not really working out? Do I Jones was supposed to replace your number 10 overall pick at one point? You exacts into a really can't get on the field. You brought in you brought in Tevin Jenkins. Haven't heard nothing about him recently here. And I knew he was a free agent, right? Your center positions up for grabs. I mean, this is the most important spots on your on your offense on your some of the most important spots on football and we are kind of trying to piecemeal this thing together. That's why again, when we started talking about the whole Malik Willis thing and this was not lost on you. I'm not saying this was lost on you, but boy,
there were better situations to go to. There were better situations with better offensive lines, more stable situations to go to from Malik Willis, just like there were for probably Kyler Murray, just like there were for a two-a-tongue viola, just for a lot of those places. That's why I ask, I'm not hearing Malik Willis sign that contract yesterday and I'm not hearing a lot of anger and I'm not hearing a lot of vitro right now. And again, I go back to it from yesterday. Did I end up speaking for the great silent majority where I got, hey, I got hammered, I got hammered for my for my opinion on where the season should go, but I'm not hearing a lot of people hammering me for it right now. And I wonder if quietly they wanted to be excited with free agency, but also they know that this might be a more practical approach. I want your answer when we come back to one six four seven four to below 92.
