What Does Pocket Watching Mean?

In today's episode, I'm going to be explaining the concept pocket watching. At the time of recording this episode, there's this big drama that's going on between DJ Vlad and Erie Spears. Long story short, they have this successful show together on the DJ Vlad's platform. And thus far it's been working. They go back and forth, talk about a variety of ideas and are just talking. That's it. Well, Boosey, another reoccurring guest on Vlad's platform, recently said that he is no longer doing Vlad TV because they could not come into agreement about $5,000. And that's when Vlad went on his platform and started to explain why he could not pay

1:00the $5,000. After his explanation, it was shown that Vlad was paying Boosey $25,000. When Erie Spears heard that, he was furious. Immediately he calls Vlad and he says he wants to raise. And Vlad is like, we'll talk about it, but Erie is so mad that he's not immediately getting a raise that he says, I don't even know if we need to talk about it. And just like that, they are going back and forth and now the bridge is burned. This is one of the reasons why a lot of companies, they tell the employees, don't tell other people how much you make. Because as soon as you tell other people how much you make, suddenly jealousy kicks in. It's just human nature. But people are going to completely forget about the context. They're going to be like, why does this person have a higher number than me? This other person may bring in more views, may be more engaging, may not even record as

2:04much as you. Maybe Boosey records every four months where Erie records every month. And somehow if you add up the numbers, it's not that far apart, but people don't care about context at all when it comes down to money and jealousy at the same time. So you want to avoid pocket watching and you want to be very wary about asking people how much they make, especially if they are in a similar role to you. The question is, can you handle the answer? A lot of the times, the answers are going to be shocking. They're not just making a little bit more than you, they're making a lot more than you. And then it's up to you. How do you want to proceed?
