0:00The secret skill managers love. I was never the most technical person on the team. I'm not the best coder, and I don't have all the hard skills. But I have one specific skill that every manager loves. I know how to make a new coworker feel at home. Remember being the new kid at school, you are worried about eating alone or not making friends. You might think those feelings go away when you're an adult, but they don't. They just change. When he started a new job in their 30s, it's still scary. I've been in roles where nobody showed me how things work. I just sat on the sidelines, feeling lost. Because I did not know what to do. I probably looked quiet or stuck up. But I wasn't. I just did not have a good environment to grow in. Because I know how bad it feels to be lost, I learned how to help others. My managers eventually realized that if we hired someone new, they should go through me for the Armani tour. To help a new person fit in, I act as a bridge.

1:00I don't just introduce them by name. I share an interesting fact about them so they can join the conversation right away. This helps them make friends fast. I also create a safe space where they feel comfortable asking any question no matter how small. This stops them from feeling nervous. By being the one who shows them on the ropes, you build a deep trust. That person will be your ally for a long time because you help them when they knew nothing. Armani talks.
