Study your Org Chart at Work

Five Soft Skills for you to change your life forever, and Skyrocksha confidence along the way. In today's episode, I'm going to be talking about the purpose of studying your org chart. An org chart, also known as an organization chart, is the chart that represents the different team members, the different hierarchies, the different leadership folks within your company. Chances are there is an internet within your company. You can go on the internet, you can check out the phone book, and from the phone book, you can study the org chart. You may think, why do I need to study the org chart? The org chart is always around, and what do you even mean when you say study it? What I mean is you need to crawl around the org chart. There needs to be certain days when you are getting lost in stocking people.

1:02You may think, why though? The reason why is because at one point, you will not have the answer, but someone else will have the answer. And the mere fact that you took the time to study the org chart and understand who does what for which team will allow you to think of ideas when you are stuck. There were plenty of times in my career when I was stuck, and luckily, I studied the org chart on a day when I was free, and that information came in clutch on the day that I was stuck. I realized, yes, I cannot solve this problem, but I know for a fact, Brent's team can. Brent's not here. Fine, I know that there are four to five people that report to him, so I am going to contact those four to five people. If I was dealing with the issue for the first time, and I was not aware of Brent, I was not aware of the people who reported to him, then I would be stuck solving this issue by myself.

2:07I am not the subject matter expert for everything out there, but Brent's team in this situation was. Whenever you are bored, you are free at work. Don't always go to read it. Instead, go to your org chart. Your org chart has tons and tons of information that you can leverage in order to learn more about days when things are going well, but more importantly, when days are going bad, study your org chart.
