ArmaniTalks Podcast — p1- Why I Stopped Loving My Roomba. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
why I stopped loving my Roomba. About a year ago, I wrote a great review of my Roomba. I thought it was one of the best things I ever bought. I was even thinking about throwing away my old vacuum cleaner because the robot was so helpful. I believed I would love it forever. But after about five or six months, the robot started having problems. It stopped going where I wanted it to go. Even after I cleaned it, the software would glitch. It would go back to its base too early or completely miss one side of the house. Now every time I use it, I have to watch it constantly. I have to remap the house and manually put it back on its charger. It has become a chore just to make the automated vacuum work. The most annoying part is trying to tell people about it. Whenever I say the Roomba is acting up, they always ask the same questions. They ask if I clean the sensors or if I am taking care of it correctly. I always tell them, yes, but the robot still does not work. You can do everything right and the machine will still fail.
It makes me angry because I spent a lot of money on it, but now I am basically working alongside the robot to make sure the floors get clean. Most days it's just easier to use my old vacuum and do it myself. Before you automate a task, you need to understand that it might not stay set and forget. Often you aren't actually getting rid of the work. You are just switching from doing the task to fixing the machine or money talks.
