Malibu

about Malibu. Malibu was created in 1978 as a coconut-flavored brum designed to make

peenia coladas easier to mix. It was originally produced in kerosene and marketed as a smooth,

beach-inspired spirit that captured a laid-back Caribbean vibe. The brand was later acquired

by major spirits companies eventually landing under Pernod Ricard. Malibu became hugely popular

in the 1980s and 90s and flavored spirits took off, especially in the United States. With its

signature white bottle and palm tree logo, Malibu helped define the tropical cocktail movement

and expanded into multiple fruit flavors while keeping coconut as its flagship identity.
