Grand Marnier

Hello and welcome to the stupid instrument. I'm your host, Kent Pound. Today, we're talking

about Grand Marnier. Grand Marnier was created in 1880 by, and I'm going to butcher this

guy's name, Louis Alexander Marnier La Postal in France. At a time when Fruit La Cours

were typically sweet and simple, he had the bold idea to blend refined French cognac

with bitter orange essence from the Caribbean. The result was a richer, more complex spirit

he first called Curacao Marnier. According to legend, though, a friend tasted it and

exclaimed, a grand marnier in the name stuck. The iconic bottle shaped like a traditional

cognac still, and sealed with a wax stamp and ribbon, became a symbol of luxury. Earning

its place and fine dining, classic cocktails, and even the kitchens of royalty worldwide.
