2:05The one and only Tony Pauline. Tony, you know, we were a little worried about the start of the college football season. The schedule didn't look as great as usual, but man, we got some bangers in week number one, man. Maybe Saturday night was a little bit disappointing, but we got some other really good games. The 12 o'clock kickoffs were a bore. You're like, oh boy, this is what I expected. But the 330 games starting with Oregon Boise State through those evening games were, you know, riveting. I mean, they were good games, close games, fun to watch. And I think a couple of those games. We got a lot out of it from an NFL scouting perspective. All right. So why don't we start the afternoon game, then, Tony? I caught the end of Oregon Boise State. Is this this Boise? Maybe better than we thought is, or did Oregon just not play that well? What do you think? Atante Moore? Your thoughts on Oregon Boise State? The Oregon offense played terrific. I mean, Dante Moore was outstanding. We saw like very likely the coming of age of Jamari Johnson, because if you look at Kenyans to Deak a year ago, he is not

3:08where Jamari Johnson proved to be Saturday against Boise State. I was very disappointed in the Oregon defensive line. I know Mateo Yugalely came up big late in the game. But I know Amari Washington, they in Bear Alexander, they had great stats. But they weren't making the impact against the Boise State offensive line that has one guy that's probably going to be a PFA, especially early on. Boise State had their way with that Oregon defensive line early in the game now. Oregon's first game of the year. Let's see what happens. But for me, that was the biggest disappointment because that Oregon defensive line has got four draughtable guys and three of them are day one or two picks. Boise State early on had their way with it. Absolutely right. Oregon's got a lot of prospects. And we'll see, especially on that defensive front, we'll see as they continue to develop. It's going to be a really tough big 10 throughout the year. Why don't we stick with the big 10 here, Tony?

4:09Before we jump over to the SEC and the ACC, which had a couple matchups over the weekend, Michigan men, their offense, it just did not look right, Tony. We can get into the end of the game. I just felt so bad for the Western Michigan kids. That was, it's just not great. Not good. They're like any part of it. But, man, Michigan's got to get something going on offense here, Tony, because that was not pretty. Well, quarterback especially. I mean, you know, the quarterback is, and I never bought into Michigan. People thought when Kyle Woodie-Ham was named head coach, boom, they were going to be contenders for the big 10. Some people had them in the playoffs. I never thought that because of the quarterback, he's an athlete trying to play the quarterback position. And, you know, if you watch that game, even the play before that extra down that the official gave Michigan, he basically threw the ball to the end zone. The one where the defender went up and hit it, and they said there was an extra second on the ball. The defender doesn't hit the ball.

5:13The ball goes out of bounds. The game's over. Didn't even give his receivers a chance. Defensively, I was a little bit disappointed with John Henry Daley, the Utah transfer, who was a one man record crew last year at Utah. He was okay. But yeah, I agree. It's got to be tough to be, but how to be tough weekend or at least Sunday for to be a Western Michigan fan or player, the way that game ended. Absolutely right. All right. So let's jump to the disappointing game from Saturday night. LSU Clemson, you know, Clemson gets that pick on the first drive, Tony. Like, all right, we got some to go in here. And I said to you before we started, really, LSU just looked like the faster, more athletic and just the more talented team from the get-go in that game. It's like that there's like one team was playing on one and a half speed. The other team was just playing on one. Ashton Hampton came away with that pick and you saw the pick and you're like, wow, you know, what's up with Sam Levin's throwing behind the receivers. But you know, as we talked about, the big questions with Clemson with a quarterback and the running running game and your factor in their offensive line was terrible, which made it a one-sided game.

6:17Now people will talk about Sam Levin who had a great game, some of the little players as far as I was concerned, the stars of the game were Jordan Seaton, yeah, left to Akkel, and Braille and more, the center. I mean, Jordan Seaton, really I think, made a statement in this game. Will Held did not get a sniff of the quarterback, did not get a sniff. When Clemson blitzed Sammy Brown, the their explosive linebacker just easily outpositioned him. Now, Seaton's got some technical things that he's got to iron out, he's got to be more consistent with. But man, you saw the athleticism, the ability to get to the second, third level, block and motion. I mean, he was, to me, he was outstanding, and this was a statement game the first week against two really good NFL prospects on the Clemson defense. As far as Braille and more is concerned, you know, he's not big. He's probably going to be under six foot two, goes about 292 pounds, but he's smart, he's tough, strong, precise. You look at how many times LSU was able to run the ball on the inside,

7:22it was Braille and more lead in the way with those blocks. So even though they're not going to show up on the statue, everyone's going to talk about Sam Levin, who I think runs the ball a little bit too much. For my liking, I thought that Jordan Seaton and Braille and more were fantastic. All of the obstacles to quarterback when you're rushed for like 300 yards, which is what LSU did, it did that game too. It makes it a lot easier on your left tackle pass blocking at bass rush. When you're rushing for three, three bills over the course of a game, it makes the job a little bit easier, but I'm with you. I think really impressive performance by LSU. All right, let's jump over to Ole Miss Louisville, Tony, just a really good game on Sunday night. Trinidad Chambliss had some really nice throws after a little bit of a slow start to that game. I have the Louisville played really well too. Your overall thoughts, Juan Leisi left that game with an injury. It's important to point out too, obviously he's a really big prospect that running back. You're taking away some Ole Miss and Louisville. Very disappointing and will echoes, because like I

8:23said, the way the Oregon defensive line was disappointing against Boise State. I've got will echoes who's been talked about. We've had people think he's going to be the first defensive tackle, a potential top 20 pick. He had two tackles and they were assist tackles. The Louisville offensive line really isn't that great. They're not a dominant offensive line that he was going to get up against great, terrific next level talent. I thought overall, it was an exciting game. It was a fun game to watch, but will echoes. We'll see if he comes out of his funk and can step it up because we know he's capable of so much more, but this was not a good initial performance by a player that some have a view as their number one defensive tackle. He's my number two defensive tackle. After Omarie Watt, she did who also, as I mentioned, did not have a great game. Yeah, we're going to have Chad Ryder coming up in the next couple of weeks and he loves Ole Echoes. He's one of those guys that's very much on the Echols bandwagon. You'll hear that interview over the next couple of weeks. What do you think of Chad that, Chambers?

9:25Listen, I like Chambers. I don't know that he's going to go in the first round. I think he should be in first round conversation. The guy's a winner. The guy makes plays. He's smart. He's under six with tall, which is a big red flag for me, but we're just seeing a continuation of a guy who came off the bench and really steered Mississippi into the semi-finals last year. In coming up big when he has to, I like to create a lot of that, Chambers a lot as a next level prospect. I usually move away from those smaller quarterbacks. I just think the guy's a winner and he comes up big and he does a good job protecting the football ball using all of his targets. But again, the Louisville defense is not what Chambers is going to face when he goes up against LSU or Alabama or some of those SEC teams. So the big test are in front of them. Yeah, well, he's small Tony, but he checks every other box, right? He's got a big arm. He's athletic. He can run. He makes pretty quick decisions. He's not running around back there like a chicken with a said cut off. He throws on time.

10:27Like he's he's he's a good player. I agree. And you know, I think we could be having Kyler Murray type conversations about him if his progress continues over the course of the year. And he keeps playing like he did in week one. That I mean, he has, he doesn't have less talent than what Kyler had. Like he could do all that sort of stuff. Maybe not quite the athlete that Murray was, but man, he can throw it. I think Trina Dadchambers is much more advanced as a passer than Kyler Murray was when he was drafted. Yeah, I'm as a passer. I'm with you. And obviously, we'll keep you updated on what's going on with Kwan Lacey. Obviously, he's a prospect. We'll be tracking throughout the year. All right, Tony. Let's look ahead next week. We got some more games, man. We got some big time games coming up. Let's start with Oklahoma and Michigan. Our buddy, Jim Nagy over at Oklahoma, obviously, and Michigan trying to bounce back from what was a win last week, but felt like a loss to Western Michigan. So a really big game for them to try to bounce back.

11:28Absolutely. Hey, the funny thing is you can talk about the Western Michigan. My left and so, if you watch that game, if you watch the end, the fans are running on field, everybody is all excited, except for Kyle Greenhamer said we got a lot of work to do. He was not happy and good for him. Yeah, like he almost felt it. He almost sounds like he felt like embarrassed by the way they won the game. Like honestly, it did. And one of the assistant coaches for Michigan, walks over. He's like trying to console a lot of the Western Michigan players on the other sideline, which I had never seen before. I'm sure he recruited a lot of those kids or they all are Michigan, a lot of the Western Michigan kids. I'm sure he knows a lot of them. But man, just a really bizarre see a dead of the game. Sorry, I didn't interrupt you. No, it's all right. I got Oklahoma Michigan. I mean, the matchup that I'm going to be looking at is Michigan's top cornerbacks, Jair Hill and Zeke Barry, who are both top 45 prospects against John Mateer. Mateer is not always the most accurate quarterback on the planet. Sometimes he gets outside the pocket. He can be a little bit wild. Jair Hill and Zeke Barry will eat him up. So

12:30that's going to be it's going to be a big challenge for both of them, especially for Mateer going up against these top rated NFL prospects at the quarterback position. Yeah, absolutely. All right. I can't even read my own writing Tony. What was the second game you on the hit? Alabama Kentucky. Oh, that's an L. I thought I'd like Arizona. I don't remember you mentioned Arizona. That's an L. Alabama Kentucky. Sorry, Tony. Go ahead. Yeah. One of your favorite guys, John is Pierre, who had a terrific game against East Carolina, going up against Lance Hurd. Now, Lance Hurd played left tackle for the Tennessee volunteers in 2025, highly rated by NFL scouts. Going to be, you know, going to be the left tackle, going to a fork and tucky going up against Pierre. I'm not so old that Hurd is a left tackle. I think he's going to guy you got to watch. He may be a college left tackle who may have to move to the right side, but going up against Pierre, who is an explosive athletic, slightly smaller, but very strong for his size edge rusher is going to be a massive

13:31early season challenge for Lance Hurd. And it's a matchup that scouts are going to watch because it's going to help or hurt both players. All right. And then the big one, Tony Ohio State in Texas, hopefully arch figures out a way to stay on his feet as he runs out of the tunnel this week. And he bakes it out to the field in one piece. But obviously, too, you could argue the most talented teams in college football second straight year early in the year. These two teams going at it. I mean, we could do a whole show just on the NFL matchups in this in this game, but stay too next week when we review the game. Hey, Brian, archmaning throwing the ball to Cam Coleman with that trio of tremendous safeties that Matt Patricia is going to use in a variety of different ways. Jalen McClain or a little, the transfer from Florida State, Terry Moore, the transfer from Duke who, if you watched our show with Drew Fabianne said, you know, before he was injured, he loved

14:32Terry Moore. So, you know, how does Matt Patricia use those guys? We're going to see safeties who are going to have to cover because Manning, you got to expect him to be a little bit better less. He's got an arm. He's got one of the best probably the best vertical passer in the draft going against Cam Coleman, who is a phenomenal receiver. That's going to be a fun matchup. We've had a lot of people talk about Trevor Goosby. Well, let's see how can you get a Jackson Jr. He's a big fan of, can you get a Jackson Jr. There are some scouts who great him as a midday three pick. I think he's all along. He's athletic. He's fast up the field. He gets down the line of scrimmage. Makes plays all of a vice. I think it's going to be a, you know, Trevor Goosby now playing in the SEC faces this type of past Russia, but this is going to be a big game for both of those guys. And then Calvin Simmons against that Ohio State offensive line. They take cerebelled. They move from left tackle into guard. So you know that they got a good, a good player there at left tackle

15:33Ohio State. Their right tackle is an NFL prospect who's very athletic. You know, Colin Simmons. He's an incredible athlete, but he's a little bit small. And now he's going up against the big 10 offensive lineman who play big boy football who will look to bury him in the ground. Can he protect himself? Can he stay off blocks? Can he get off blocks? And can he, you know, get up the field and disrupt the Julian Sains rhythm? Yeah, I want to see how Julian Sain plays too. Right? And this is a big game for him against a very talented Texas defense. Obviously, we know about Jeremiah Smith that goes without saying, but I want to see how Julian Sain plays in this game. And you know, Bo Jackson had a had a big game in week one along with a lot of the other players on Ohio State. Obviously, you know, let's see how some of these offensive players for Ohio State does the second wide receiver on this Ohio State team start to emerge a little bit too. So I want to see how Julian Sain plays, but he's a guy Tony that I think he has a chance to put himself right in the conversation with those other quarterbacks this year. If he has a big year and people want to go back to the same like look last year, the way archbanding putting in Ohio State fair unfair and mostly unfair was completely, you know, put under

16:38like the like bad light because of how he played in an early game season in the Ohio State, which was always silly, but it was that could happen to Julian Sain this year too. If he is a bad game against Texas. So just from a perception perspective, I think it's important for Sain to come out and play well. Well, here's the thing is and you're right. I mean, everybody was writing off archbanding the first game of the week and we set on our program. If you want to go back and watch one of ridiculous assertion that was, but here's the thing about Sain. What's your last memory about Sain? His inability to hold up against that past rush from the Miami hurricane, the game, the door and and Ruben Bain. I, my, my, Ohio State, I don't think the identity didn't have any favors lighting up in the shotgun and having him drop back, which reduced those past rush angles. But that's the memory of Sain. The inability to really move that Ohio State Buckeye team against that great past rush, those great edge rushers that, that Miami was able to put on field and then they lose that game unexpectedly. Let's see what Colin Simmons of Texas can do. Let's see if Colin Simmons is able to get up the field. If Julian Sain has that

17:43same sort of problems that he had a year ago now he supposedly has put on some, some weight. We'll see what happens if he's able to stand up. But he wasn't a big quarterback with a big arm. And I think based off of the last big time game at a house they played and the problems that he had, this is a, a, a, a marking point for Julian Sain. I can't wait to see how it goes. It'll be a fun game. A fun week at a college football. Now let's get to our guest today, Tony. Fert of the program, Dean Brugler. He came out with his preseason top 50. Tony and I picked it apart with him. We went around the league a little bit. Went around college football and talked about all the guys on his list. Here's our interview with Dean Brugler from the athletic. All right. And now we welcome in our guest on today's program. The one and only Dean Brugler from the athletic. Dean is your summer scouting officially done. Are you still polishing up a, a, a few more pieces of tape here as we just kick off the college football season? Well, as you guys know, there's always more tape to be watched. Right. You know, you, you never feel like, I think that's the biggest thing that I struggle with

18:44personally is, yeah, I could watch one more or you know, like, because there's only so many hours in a day and there's so many players to get through. So kind of figuring out when's a good stopping point on a player is always tough. But all I know is I'm looking forward to new tape, fresh tape from this upcoming season. And so we're, we're close. You know, I kind of enjoy the summer scouting because there's not as much outside noise as there is February, March, April. You know, there's not all these people every time you open up the internet, given their opinions. And you're like, how maybe I should go back and watch that guy, you know, May, June, July and August, you know, you do it. I do it. No one's talking about the, you know, there's me a lead left tackle from Youngstown State where you know, darn well in January. Everybody's going to be all over this guy. So that's why I enjoy, that's what I enjoy most I should say about the summer scouting and watching film, you know, when it temperature up is high. As a great point, because yeah, it's it's a chance to

19:52get, because you know, like once we get to January, February, March, it just feels like, you know, everybody's starting to get into the draft process. So yeah, it just becomes like, okay, you got a hurry through these things. Summer is more of a relaxed pace. And but I think I think it's underrated how important a summer is, summer scouting, because it really sets the foundation for what you're going to, how you're shaping these guys moving forward. And it's also important just to have a frame of reference for these guys going into the year. So you, you know, okay, going into this season, I want to see X, Y and Z from this player. Is he getting better? Is he working on those areas where you want to see improvement? Or is he regressing? Is he maybe just staying the same? Like maybe this is who he is. And we're not going to see him get better. And so I think that yeah, just having that foundation and having the summer to establish it and get through a lot of guys, yeah, it's such a key part of this whole process. Yeah, completely agree. I mean, it's so important I feel to have

20:54multiple seasons of notes on these guys to back up. You know, you look at Lennore sellers. I mean, if you looked at Lennore sellers off the 2025 film, he's what a fourth, fifth round pick. But you remember what he did in 2024 and you're like, okay, which ways is this guy going to go? So, yeah, I agree. You know, the point of reference, not just the season before, but as many seasons before is possible. You know funny day and I was joking and we're going to talk about Dean's top 50 today you can find it on the athletic go check it out with all his other great draft work you show us look at his summer scouting series he has an article on all the different position groups runs down kind of the top players in each position it's a must read every summer you know day and I was joking with a couple of our mutual friends Dave Helm in a couple weeks ago and then Trevor Sikama last week and we all want to get the draft community together I've even thrown this to Tony and he probably has more money than any of us we want to pull our resources so in January we just get one day of one-on-one reps between Jeremiah Smith and Leonard Moore that's it just one day they can show one day in mobile one day of one-on-one reps then they can go away and we don't you know we can't even tell them don't go to the combine you don't have to come to the combine that's fine let's just get one day of one-on-one one-on-one reps between those two guys in mobile and I think and Dave made this point probably the best set of one-on-one

24:08reps we would have had since the Aaron Donald Zach Martin reps back in was that 2014 whatever that was I don't remember when you had that one right yeah well hey we might who knows with the way to college football playoff could turn out all right sign me up for that to see whether it's the opening round of the the national championship game whatever out that would be a lot of fun obviously we did see it a little bit two years ago in the national title game when these two teams met but I mean in my opinion these are the two best players two best prospects in the draft they might not go one and two you know with quarterbacks and and and and all that but we're talking about two players that I think we're going to be having the discussion throughout the process like oh hey Jeremiah Smith is the best receiver you've scouted sense who and with with Moore he's the best cornerback prospect you've scouted sense and I think the answer will be maybe a little bit different for everybody so these guys are true blue chippers the types of guys that are going to make some

25:10team to the top of the draft just think a little bit like okay we need a quarterback but man can we do we love this guy enough to pass on a true cornerstone guy like Jeremiah Smith or or Leonard Moore so yeah it's it's going to be interesting throughout the process to see how these guys continue to get better well I want to I want to ask that question to my two scouts here Dane those two guys are the best corner and wide receiver you've seen since blank how would you answer that question today knowing there's still one more season to go for me it's probably Julio Jones for the receiver and then I don't know he might be better than sauce Gardner but that's the first guy that comes to mind for me yeah and it's so I actually have a piece coming out here soon where I went back and I have so I have all my grade it's since 2010 so we're working off of 17 year sample size the highest wide receiver grade that I ever gave was AJ Green okay speaking of speaking of so you can appeal your Jones that same name class uh yeah and so Calvin so Calvin

26:11Johnson this is after Calvin Johnson so he's not in that mix so just the last 17 years the highest grade I ever gave was AJ Green and I think that Jeremiah Smith has a legitimate chance to be higher than that um I so I it's saying quite a bit and really when you look at it it's it's rare to have a receiver drafted in the top three the last 20 years we have had two receivers drafted in the top three picks one of those Calvin Johnson just an easy easy evaluation Hall of Famer the other one is Travis Hunter who wasn't even a full-time receiver I mean one of the reasons he went so highs because of what he did on defense and just the whole uh you know being able to play both ways and so it's not very common that you see receivers go this early but Jeremiah Smith absolutely in that mix for for Leonard Moore I it's a little bit tougher right I think that he is gonna be I think that sauce gardeners a good name to put out there in terms of you know the best corner sense I had a really high grade on Christian Gonzalez and so that'll be kind of in that mix as well oh I know

27:14as he's a a really really good player who and it's not just physical and with both these guys Smith and Moore it's not just their physical gifts and their ability you know that's just the traits it's their that with the way they work at it their mentality Leonard Moore I mean he he runs routes better than the receiver he just has a real knack for understanding what the leverages what the offense wants to do and then making sure he's cutting off those uh those stems and those paths to where the receiver wants to go and so it's it's really impressive to watch how about you Tony how would you answer that question with uh well we've talked about it before the receiver I mean since Calvin Johnson I think Jeremiah Smith is uh is the highest rated receiver I think the only thing is is you know well Calvin Calvin Johnson went to the combine and blew everybody away running those four threes I don't know that we're gonna see Jeremiah Smith run a 40 for the NFL draft because you know that's the uh that's the way it goes these days as far as cornerbacks as far as the ability to

28:18shut down the opponent you know the name was kind of alluding to it the instincts the ability to diagnose plays I'm gonna go with Patrick Peterson different body type obviously because Leonard Moore so long and he's got long arms and he uses that advantage that frame to an advantage but as far as you know just the top-wide guy who was so good at shutting opponents down I would say probably Patrick Peterson that's interesting all right so Dan I looked at your 50 and I kind of broke it down by the numbers here was it intentional that 25 of the 50 were offense and 25 of the 50 were defense no uh that that was definitely not intentional that that was just happens to answer but it's it's good to know that there's some balance there um I I when I kind of broke it down I was I was a little surprised how few I think there's only one senior or maybe two seniors that made my talk 25 which isn't totally uncommon but usually we have one or two seniors maybe get to the top

29:1815 and um yeah but at least at this point this part the process um I didn't have very many seniors ranked at at that level um so it's very underclassmen heavy which maybe not a huge surprise when we've been feels like we've been talking about the 2027 draft for uh well for three years you know since Jeremiah Smith broke onto the onto the scene and Cam Coleman and obviously Arch and it feels like we've been talking about this class as being the marquee class and you know time will tell but hopefully it lives up to the height and by the way it's spread out right I mean the most number of guys you have at any individual position is seven you have seven edge players and seven quarterbacks six wide receivers six safeties but a lot of times on these lists in the top 50s then you'll get it you know eight or ten guys in one position the talent does seem pretty spread out yeah and like every year certain positions will be deeper than others um but I do think yeah in terms of uh represented in the top 50 in that first round top 40 chances guys with a chance to go and sneak

30:22into that first round um I was surprised how many safeties I had that high I just I think it's a really good safety group um you know I think that uh you know receivers a position that is always going to be deep and so you know there was you know six of six receivers in their running back there were three which you know last year was such a uh light class outside of the two Notre Dame backs um and even you know Giderian price if not for the Seahawks you know I think it would have been uh just a you know one running back first round and so yeah it's a uh it's a really I like spread out class is a good way to put it but I I think just like every year some positions will be deeper than others and I agree with you about the safety class I absolutely love the safety class on paper or the rankings the way it stands right now I got to ask you Brandon the Brendan Sores B is my 14th rated player I didn't see him in your top 50 is it because you didn't like the film is it because of the off the field stuff what why don't you have him ranked high yeah and uh maybe

31:28I'm a coward but you know I'm taking uh I'm taking a wait and see approach with him you know like I think if if nothing came out about the gambling um or if that wasn't a thing if the off-field wasn't an issue he would be in the top 50 probably I would guess in the in the 20s probably somewhere from me I mean the talent is really impressive um now he needs to get better with his footwork he needs to be you know he did the rhythm needs to be a lot more uh on point with you know the timing of his progressions and just being more consistent from a uh mechanical standpoint and then you know when the ball comes out of his hand you know making sure he's reading the defense finding the outlet finding where he needs to go there's just a lot of consistency that needs to get better and I think we there's a good chance we were gonna see that this year for Texas Tech but not having any 2026 film as is something that will hurt him to a degree um and it's gonna put a lot of uh pressure on

32:32assuming he goes to the senior bowl or shrine bowl and you know the all star circuit and the combine and the workout out it's gonna put a lot of pressure on that but then of course you have the off-yield and that's that's his own animal I think that I was interested just as a test case to see where he would have gone in the supplemental draft because it was such an unprecedented situation um but I do think that once we get to the draft process next spring when the heat's cooled off a little bit teams have had a more of a chance to get to know him and obviously this is assuming there's no setbacks with him and his recovery from this issue you know um I there's absolutely a chance he can get it in the first round and get into the top 50 mix it's just at where we are right now I'm taking more of a wait and see approach with him Tony I remember you asked the question remind me the answer we asked Drew Fabiannis when he had him on last week about Swarsby he said he was open to having a bit the senior bowl correct if I remember correctly yeah I asked Drew you know

33:33what the process for Swarsby was gonna be because Swarsby needs to play into Senior Bowl I said if he's in your top eight uh will you invite him or are you going to check with the league first and and what Drew said was if he's in my top eight he's going to get an invitation but I'm gonna talk to the league so it seems like you know if he's in the top eight he's very open to having him at the Senior Bowl which Swarsby is definitely going to need but he's also gonna check on the outside against to make sure that the league is comfortable that Swarsby is doing what he's supposed to be doing you know what the off the field issues now I'd be shocked if he's not at the Senior Bowl or you know an all-star game just because this is that's where teams want to see him you know like he needs that as part of the evaluation he they need that data point and I mean we went through this uh what five six years ago or whenever when the the combat and like the NFL made it as like if you had certain character issues you were not allowed to be at the combine like I think it just you're

34:34hurting the teams because the whole point of the combine is to get more information about these players and I understand where the NFL is coming from you want to make the combine kind of a reward you know like a chance to get in front but the teams are gonna draft talented players whether they have issues or they don't and if I'm a team on the league I want to give my my scouts and my evaluators more chances to get to know the player to better understand him as a person the the issues how much has uh has changed over over time and so yeah I think that when it's all sendong like I said as long as there's no big uh setbacks in his recovery I'd be pretty shocked if he's not at one of these all-star games yeah if you're if you remember the combine they they change the league change it and the guys who had the off the field issues they weren't going to allow at the comment they brought him just to do the medicals they allowed him to do that because the pro days they weren't gonna do the medicals I think the situation with soresby is the gambling is such a taboo

35:37topic you know in the NFL in college I mean it's unprecedented so I agree with you with thousand percent and I'm hoping to see him there and I think he needs to be there obviously the topic we're talking about you got to tread lightly. All right Dan let's talk about the quarterbacks since Tony brought up soresby you have arch and you have Dante more in your top 10 not surprising of the next guys you have and you have seven of them in your top 50 which of those guys you think has the best chance to elevate themselves into that conversation with more and arch and it's funny by the way because we all spoke at the same time last year about arch we're all like he's not coming out this year and everyone else is losing their minds and I'm like yeah guys this is not gonna happen it ends up being true but he showed enough in the last year I think he should be talked about in that top you know five type of area with Dante more who from the rest of this group do you think really has a chance depending on your watching to elevate themselves into that conversation with more and arch for the first quarterback off the board.

36:38Yeah and real quick on on arch I think that a lot of people have blinders on with him because his season started so slow and I mean look he going to Columbus making his first ever road start against the best defense and college football last year like is it really surprising that he didn't look amazing from day one. I think that you know people are so stuck on last September that they didn't watch him in October in November and really focus on his game and so you know they just hear the name manning and they think oh well that that's the only reason not watch October watch November watch some of the throws that he's making watch the way he's operating it's really impressive there's so much about archers game that I think you can point to and say all right all I'll bet on that foundation of traits and so is he a perfect prospect by no means he needs to get better in several areas but it's the foundation that he brings that I think that's why evaluators are excited about him but to me to your question I think this is the theme of this

37:43draft class in my opinion is because we've been talking a lot about this draft class we've been talking a lot about this this quarterback specifically and if we're going to say arch and Dante Moore or in that top tier the theme of this draft the question of this draft who in those next tiers the second and third tiers are going to have the type of season to vault them into the top tier with those two other guys you know and is it CJ Carr from Notre Dame Drew Mesta maker from Oklahoma State North Texas transfers as unique a prospect as we've seen given his relative in experience I think Lenora Sellers who Tony mentioned earlier is as rare has a rare physical skill set when you talk about the size the speed the explosive arm but obviously last year Denaco according to plan and any progression this year it might be overvalued you know just because last year was such a setback for him so I think if any shows any type of consistency Lenora sellers will be in that

38:44first round mix Darian Mensa from Miami who is going to a situation that it's kind of ready made to take off with that offense with with with Tony and Mark Fletcher in the backfield the offensive line needs to be rebuilt a little bit but they are Miami's poise for a run this year just like they did last year so Mensa can he do enough to vault himself into that that top tier or at least first round status I think he's there's there's a big reason why he's the one of the Heisman favorites this year and you look at it Heisman doesn't equate to NFL prospects but the last 15 quarterbacks that won the Heisman were first round picks so Darian Mensa can he kind of get himself in that mix I know I was kind of surprised too I think I can't remember who you have to go back to the quarterback that wasn't a first round but yeah it's quite a long list so yeah it's to me that is what I can't wait for this season is to watch these other quarterbacks Jade Mayava try to that

39:49chambles who yeah he's shorter but man the leagues just desperate for explosive playmakers and Chambles gives you that and I think what he did towards the end of last year especially in the playoffs if you that can carry over obviously what we'll miss is going to look very different this year that and chambles is going to put himself at least in that conversation con Julian Sayin do enough this year in year two to say like yeah I might not have these overwhelming physical traits but focus on my accuracy focus on my processing focus on you know all these key parts of playing the position that's what I bring to the next level Sam Leved at LSU so I mean there's so many names that are so right now we we know we have the quantity do we have first round quality I think that's the biggest thing that we'll be watching for this year let me ask you two quarter back questions let me start off with Darry Mesa you haven't rated number 41 I actually haven't rated number eight I absolutely love the guys game he ain't no he goes to Miami he also brings his conference he or from Duke back right right with him what is it about him that you don't like

40:54is the size and concern where do you think he needs to improve because I love the guys I love his appeal play yeah and I think it's when you watch him the the physical traits don't wow you you know if you if you could combine La Nora Sellers and Darry Mesa you might have a number one overall pick right because Mesa does a lot of things well from a quarterback operation standpoint I think that like the ball just doesn't explode off his hand and that doesn't mean that he can't start at the next level by any means I do think he can start at the next level but I want to see him and I think going to that situation at Miami I won't be surprised at all if he's able to elevate himself like I said to Heisman status to a guy that you're thinking all right not only can I do I think he can be a starter but I think he can be a starter who you know wins it not just because of everything around him but maybe in spite of everything around him he has that type of ability and so it's he a caretaker quarterback or is he a quarterback that is going to put the team

41:56on his back and you know really take him to you know where this team is trying to be so I'm I Mesa is in that second tier for me going into the season where there's a lot about him that I like it's just the physical traits are more good than great and I want to see him be a little more consistent in a few areas but he's going to a situation where I think he could show that this year Troy Smith by the way is the last quarter I think it was Troy Smith was the last Heisman in order to back not to not to go in the first round go ahead Tony I was actually thinking Geno Toretta but you you you would be closer Gino you have archmaning rated higher than Dante more I have Dante more rated slightly higher than archmaning I think that more is more NFL Ray I like his short intermediate passing game you have archmaning rated higher because you think he's a better quarterback prospect now or because of the upside and what could develop two with three years down the road or both yeah well yeah I would say arch his ceiling because I mean you

42:58know Tony like we you're not drafting in these guys for what they are necessarily today but you know what what you have to look into the crystal ball and what are these guys going to look like three years from now four years from now and I think with arch I'm just I'm ready to bet on those on those traits that we saw especially the second half of last year and and really I boil it down to three things I think first is the pocket mobility his ability to navigate a muddy pocket and he saw a lot of them last year with the inconsistencies of that offensive line the inability for the run game to really get going he he just did an outstanding job of working around what was given to him and making plays two is just the athleticism we saw it especially against Michigan his ability to take off and this is a guy that's 6 4 2 30 and Michigan has some athletes on defense and arch is just pulling away from them when he stretches out that stride he can go and then the the third thing is the passing anticipation he has a really good feel for where receivers supposed

49:10possessed and it's just a lot of fun to watch him hunt the football so I think Alabama they need somebody to step up on defense especially in that front seven and I think it could be could be Pierre this year you know I want to talk about one quarterback you have him ranked number 12 on your top 50 list he's actually number 13 on my overall list Ellis Robinson of Georgia in fact that entire Georgia secondary looks like it's gonna be killer and their linebackers as well which I've got to what do you think Ellis Robinson needs to improve on because I think that again depending on the quarterbacks you're looking at a guy when the boards are set up if he improves off a 2025 could be rated as a top 10 player for the 2027 draft yeah I don't think that'd be surprising at all and this is a guy that was a former I think he was number two in the nation coming out in that recruiting class behind only Jeremiah Smith so this is a five star who everybody wanted he decides to go to Georgia because he was an IMG kid goes to Georgia and you know

50:16they they bring him along he red shirts that first year and then last year I think especially towards the end of the year you you saw things really start to click for him whether it's the Georgia tech tape or you know like it things really started it's like the game started to slow down a little bit for him and he became more confident in what he was seeing out there his steps his ability to mirror turn and then go find the football so I think for me it's just it's that confidence continuing to grow where he just feels you know he has the ability it's just does he feel like you know does he trust his ability enough and I think that's where I agree 100% with you that if he ends up going in the top 10 I don't think it'd be surprising to anybody because the ability is there you afford defensive tackles day in and your top 32 then a fell I think is really trending towards teams valuing some of that past Russian and lead to to disrupt on the interior of the defensive line are we seeing maybe a better and deeper crop than we've seen over the past few years where

51:21it's really been hard to find defensive tackles up and down the draft Yeah I do think that teams are going to put a premium on these guys no doubt I think you know you hit the nail on the head there and I don't know that we have a you know like a true top 10 guy this year you know maybe one or two of these guys can get there based off of how they play but just based on the summer scouting I think we're betting on traits more than anything we all got like David Stone from Oklahoma who another former Topra crew who flashes here flashes there but down to down consistency I want to see better but the talent man sure he could absolutely go in the first round will echoes at Ole Miss another guy that shows up against the run shows up against the past but I just want to see him maybe kind of take that next step to prove that you are a true top half around one type of guy Oregon's got two guys Miami's got two guys you know I think that the defensive that's funny we could talk about like four different teams and cover the top

52:25eight defense tackles in this draft just the way it's kind of laid out there so this is defense attack of class that I think you're absolutely right teams value these players if you are big you can move and you're going to be disruptive on the interior you are going to go we saw that with Peter Woods last year who didn't necessarily have that season his junior season that we thought he would he still ended up going in the first round because of the promise of the teases and I think that's what we'll see this year with some of these guys now hopefully some of them will get past the teases and show more consistency and if they do I think you could probably pence the minute at top 20 you know another area that's teams really want to see an abundance come draft weekend is left tackle and there was a dorth of left tackles in last year's draft we both have the same three guys rated as top 32 picks although we have them in different order I have Jordan Seton of LSU by way of Colorado I think you have Trevor Goosby number one and we both like Trevor Lalk what

54:32gets the is he long enough treatment this year you know two years ago as well Campbell last year Spencer Fano you know over under 33 inch arms and it could be one of the situations where at the combine it's one thing the pro day it's another and we have to kind of figure out all right what do we what are we trusting here but you know I will always produces offensive lineman they had with three drafted last year and the two that weren't drafted from last years top five are both in my top 50 with Lau and Kate Piper the gonna be a played center this year both are really outstanding players so I will once again producing on that offensive line both of you guys talking about how much you love the safety class so I'm on both you to tell me about these safeties which will the ones of your favorite and why is this a good class this year day and you go first yeah I was I didn't go into this process thinking that I would have as many safeties in my top 50 as I did and if we're being honest there's six probably won't go into top 50 just because we've seen how the NFL treats safeties on draft day you know whether it's Caleb downswelling on the top

55:3810 or Brian branch falling out of the top 40 you know like these guys are just not valued as high and then worry falling out of the first round but at the same time I just I was I was really impressed by this group and so I just I didn't feel right keeping some of them out of my preseason top 50 and it starts with KJ Bolden for me you know he's not maybe the biggest I think he's listed he's right around 190 pounds will probably be under 200 pounds for the draft process but even as a freshman like I and I purposely avoid watching freshmen just because there's there's only so much brain space up here I need to focus on the draft eligible guys but you couldn't help it but watch a Bolden runner round out there and making plays in the open field the closing bursts outstanding so I think that even though he's a little more undersized than when you want to see he's a first round player all day I Jalen McLean at Ohio State is someone that I don't think gets enough love it's gonna be hard to replace Caleb downs obviously in that Ohio State secondary but between McLean

56:41and Earl Little and I think in the aggregate they can do it and so with Mapatricia leading that group I think we won't see a huge drop off in a secondary for Ohio State Tade Johnson from Notre Dame I just talked about Iowa and Zach Lutmer who did a little bit of everything they'd line him up on the outside they'd play him in the nickel you know obviously there'll be plenty of comparisons of Cooper Dijin you know as we go through the process with him but this is yeah this is a really good looking safety class at least right now as we enter the season yeah and Alice you has a pair about standing safety I mean no one knows about tight type benefits too much because you played a boys' state not too many people watch boys you stay but I mean you want to talk about a vicious you know center fielder that is terrific against the run and complete the pass and no one really talks about the existing safety at the LSU to Marcus Gouli who I think is also an outstanding NFL prospect really good in the short field covering the pass a dominant run defender it's

57:45gonna be a lot of fun to watch him if there's a name to keep an eye out at this class that you're talking about it's Miami safety Omar Thornton who transferred over for Boston College I mean you watch the Boston College film last year you see number zero all over the place disrupting the action and you know now that he's at Miami who will be challenging for a national championship culture well players people will become acquainted with Omar Thornton and really my sleeper guy that I think is being underrated in the scouting communities Jackson Bean of Utah you know one of those typically not super athletic compared to the top safeties but smart always in a position to make him to make a play and those are the guys just in the first or second round there's a lot of good players when you when you move into the third round and I would mentor include Jolani Mcdonald from Texas in that in that mix he's somebody scouts like quite a bit as maybe a second round pick but I mean you're exactly right there's so many other names whether it's Brae Hubber from Alabama

58:45Peyton Bowen from Oklahoma I the kid at BYU who's a legit six five playing safety is someone that has a little bit of buzz so yeah this safety class no shortage of names of guys that could emerge as top 75 top 100 players Tony you mentioned Jaylen Mcdonald howl state Earl Littles from Florida State moves over there now as you get that professional coaching would map Patricia after being at his disaster that is Florida state the past couple seasons that's another guy who's game could really take off all right Dane I want to get to a couple NFL things with you first and foremost these NFL players I mean we're going to record this after week one we'll see who plays for LSU and who doesn't this we're recording before the games in a little after but I can't believe we're having conversation about guys that were like in the drafts and that training camps potentially playing for college teams this is the look the NCAA I guess is known to play about themselves for not you know setting the rules themselves but this is a mess

59:48it is um I give the conferences credit for stepping up and saying look this is we we are not interested in in our members having players in any sport on our on on on these teams that are former pros and I give them credit for stepping up and doing that um you know it's just it's college football is in a weird place where you don't like the rules all right I'll find a friendly judge but that's that's kind of what has become and for several different issues and look I don't know if I'm Lane Kiff and I think you have to ask yourself like is the juice really worth the squeeze here like I mean you know like some of these guys are just that pieces you know theyquan right mate he might not even be your backup tight any might be your tight end three in a depth chart like it's it's it's hard because like I am very much of the man go make your money like if you find a way to make money and it's legal do it I want you to go make money but at the same

1:03:57or scouting is you know you get your own opinions on national rankings and who's going to play for the national title and you see some of these preseason rankings you wonder why certain teams are in it are you a believer that Notre Dame can win the name or will win the national championships here or play in a national championship game because honestly I am not I just don't see the skill talent there I don't see the defensive line there that's going to uh basically take that team deep into the college football playoffs yeah and I think unfortunately we won't know um a lot about Notre Dame in terms of being a true national power until we see them later in the year when they face maybe a little bit tougher competition on that schedule um but I just I think the the road map is there for them to get to the playoffs and once you get the playoffs right anything anything's possible we saw that with Miami last year who I was eight to year before absolutely maybe not going in as a favorite but once you get into the dance you can go get it and so I think with Notre Dame I get why some are saying that they will win it all um I think that

1:05:03you know Marcus Freeman is outstanding coach and with CJ Carr you're kind of baking in the opportunity for him to take that next step and become more of a playmaker this year we're last year he was a red shirt freshman it looked like he was you know just getting his feet wet he did a lot of good things for a red shirt freshman but you know to your point is are there enough playmakers around him that you know you're gonna be able to elevate that offense so much of that offense last year was the running backs I have no I have no question about them being able to reload but you're not going to replace a Jeremiah love right away and so can Notre Dame do enough um but I like I was kind of saying about the AFC this is a wide open it just feels like a wide open college football field where you know whether it's Miami Notre Dame Ohio State Oregon uh Texas throw Georgia in there um you know I made me a team from the big 12 whether that's Texas tech or somebody else it just feels like uh it'll be really interesting to see who those final 12 teams are and then once we get to uh the the college football playoff how the seating works for

1:06:09and then see how that plays out and it just it feels like we don't have a a clear cut favor this year like and maybe we had in past years. Final one for me day and last question then we got a roll um the Giants they got a bunch of young guys I gotta imagine you're excited to see them play this year right between Abdul Kardo, Arvoree, CC Maui, you know a Malachi fields, Colton Hood a lot of young guys on this roster I know you are pretty high on who are you most excited to see out there on the field and maybe take a leap as a young player for the Giants this year. In terms of the rookies obviously I think that you know you you have to say Arvoree's I for how they're going to use him just from a curiosity standpoint um you know how do they use him on third downs how do they he's such a violent player and he can do so many things for you so just to see how they unlock everything but in general I have to say Abdul Kardo I think that watching him last year when he was healthy and seeing the disruptive nature that he brought to that defense man he is a he is a force you have

1:07:10to have a game plan going into when you face the Giants to just just slow him down because you have to give your quarterback help you have to give your tackle help and your protection scheme because he can disrupt your day and whether that's just screaming off the edge you move around a little bit obviously we have a new coaching staff this year and so just interested to see how that front seven comes together they just they have so many dudes in that front seven with guys that can get after the quarterback I just very interested to see how it all how it works together and how they get the most out of these players but Abdul Carter and Arvel Reese I I cannot wait two of the highest graded players that I've evaluated the last few years Arvel Reese was my number one player this past draft Abdul Carter was number two just behind Travis Hunter in the previous draft so I'm excited to see both these guys and Danes tell the folks about waiting to find your work on the athletic and building the beast yeah everything's only athletic like we've been talking about the top 50s out gonna have a lot of content you know the next few months as we get into the season and then David
