0:00Welcome to this day in history, it's April 28th, and on this day in 1988 it was a miracle in Maui. When a seemingly routine 35-minute flight from Hilo to Honolulu turned into a nightmare when an 18-foot-long section of the upper fuselage suddenly tore off Aloha Airlines flight 243. The explosive decompression and loss of the roof swept flight attendant Clareabel Lansing off the Boeing 737 sent Hurricane Force winds through the cabin and left passengers in the first five rows completely exposed to the sky. Estonishingly, Captain Robert Schornstimer landed the plane in Maui with no further deaths. Surprising fact, a national transportation safety board investigation found that the airline's maintenance crew had not detected significant disbonding and fatigue damage on the plane's skin-lapse splice, as a result of the crash, Congress passed the Aviation Research Act,
