41-year-old Dan Markel was a well-known law professor at Florida State University. On July 18th, 2014, Dan was fatally shot inside his home. Within months of the murder, investigators uncovered a murder-for-hire conspiracy involving his in-laws.

Wendi wanted to move south to Miami to be closer to family, but Dan protested, and a judge wouldn't allow it. They were also wrapped up in litigation that revolved around assets and parenting rights.
