PREDICTION: Kyle Whittingham's Michigan Wolverines will NOT Bounce Back vs Oklahoma, Brent Venables

Michigan looked terrible awful but could not move the ball and then cow wedding him cast dispersions at whether Bryce under what's job is secure.

2:13Can you find a way that Michigan wins this game? No I actually can't let me pull that back the closest way that Michigan could win this game is if they cause a bunch of turnovers in negative field positioning which helped them to get field goals to close it out similar to what they did against Western Michigan. That is probably their best case the big problem here is and this is why I've even mentioned to people why they're kind of surprised about this is twofold one to hold new coaching staff. You got a new OC new DC new head coach a lot of things have changed but they didn't retain a lot of players. Problem with the retention of these players is that offense is young like this young it's second year guys some first year sprinkler thirds. They're young on that offense and so of course you're dealing in a situation where they're trying to get a whole bunch they're hurting cats of young people to get them going now that defense which showed you they're pretty good they didn't give up a touchdown.

3:14That's your third and four years that's your fifth year guys that's the age that's your veteran presence also cow when he happens a really good defense of guy so it gives them that benefit of that right we saw it Utah the biggest thing that he did and he imposed at Utah is we're going to run down your throat we're going to play really good defense totally get that totally fair hard to do that with young players next season or later this year Michigan is going to be a problem but right now oh absolutely not this is the perfect situation for Oklahoma. But the second year in a row so coming into the year what Michigan needed to contend for a big 10 championship make the college football playoff or contend for a spot was Bryce under what had to take us that forward. I didn't have any doubts about the defense with Kyle waiting him I didn't have any doubts frankly about the roster talent across the board Savion Hider who was limited in his debut five carries 15 yards. I know Jordan Marshall is a good running back Bryce underwood ran the ball it's maybe the only thing that he did well all day I mean 12 to 22 170 a touchdown and a pick against Western Michigan with seven points of offense.

4:25Oh yeah the touchdown was touchdown. Yeah, Jay Jay is a touchdown. Yeah, touchdown touchdown. We go for it right exactly when you consider that was probably another 50 yards so before that he was what then 11 of 21 for 120 yards and a pick. It's utterly uninspiring look week one struggles like Oregon had against boys he stayed that's one thing looking completely inept on one side of the ball that's another and that's what Michigan did and then you're welcoming in one of the best defenses in all of college football riding high after a shutout last week. I know I know it was just you tap there in the mountain west I get it. It's not easy to shut out literally anybody in in college football but we have proof of concept from Oklahoma defensively a year ago with this coaching staff with a lot of these same players. I know David Stone is good I know Peyton Bowen's good I've watched them play football already and they have a bunch of other guys that looked great in week one and you know they're going to be sound schematically I just think bright underwood is so limited as a passer right now.

5:40This is what it comes down to I think the ceiling absolute max ceiling that I see for Michigan in this game given how limited underwood still clearly is as a passer is I almost said 17 I can't 13 points I think 13 points is the same I think Oklahoma could go in and hold them to seven points again. Now would it be in a manner of speaking the most college football thing ever to need a fluke hell marry to beat western Michigan and then beat Oklahoma yeah would that be embarrassing for the SEC from a conference branding standpoint yeah it really really would it really there's suddenly a lot of pressure on Oklahoma to win this game for for the pride and joy of the SEC and look. The madness of this beautiful sport the greatest sport on planet earth it compels me to put this hat on again.

6:40I can't do it not not after last week I give me Oklahoma and the defense because my question then becomes do I think john mature and the sooner's offense against a very good Michigan defense can they score at least 14 points because I do not believe Michigan is scoring more than that. Yeah I believe they will I think this is a low scoring game I think this will be more competitive than people are just going to think about western Michigan will think but I am I am taking in a very similar score to last year I'm going 20 to 10 I think Oklahoma goes to Ann Arbor and wins. You got more faith than I do I'm in the boat of this is going to be similar to South Carolina game Oklahoma versus South Carolina at South Carolina last year 24 to 6 ish type range I can I do expect that Oklahoma should win by a couple of scores with no problem and to your point you're right we've seen Oklahoma do this and I've had a couple of Michigan people say like well how are they going to be able to handle it there at the big house I mean two fold one if you look at the ticket pricing I posted on social media that bad boys going to be full of catch you.

7:47Round all that mustard probably more catch up then muscular demon state because we're all coming in Krimson baby just understand if you look on big noon kickoff and you see a whole bunch of red by somebody in the diet. That's because Oklahoma has taken over the stadium so I know that's going to happen that's one two Oklahoma did this on the road in Knoxville in front of a hundred thousand in Tuscaloo since the front of a hundred thousand and both of those teams play way better off its then what Michigan puts together right now. Now, the thing that helps Oklahoma most is that office that Michigan had because it's so young. Goat up against a defense that Brent Vinnables has and he has in his two deep. Third, fourth, fifth and six year players who have all been underneath him this entire time should be able to cause major problems for them. I don't think Michigan gets to 10. I do think Michigan scores probably a couple of field goals, but they're going to score. There's no excuse not to you should have more pride to be able to do that.

8:49You should have had more pride last week against Western. I mean, you know, you should have been able to get your kids for our G six brethren. They know I know. And they know I turned a lot of player. I know they're the Mac chant, the rain, the Mac champ players from there. We pull up them often, but this group did not get plugged, but you're right. They came out flat. They look like a team with the new coaching staff just trying to figure out what the heck they're doing. Yeah, I feel for Beck because he's going to be between a rock and a hard place. It had time deciding. I don't keep doing a game. Should have gone ahead and go to the true freshman. And this is where I get tricky for coaching the checks. Fat. So that's the reason why underwoods got to start. But from there, you may need to preserve things and go ahead and move on. I mean, at some point as Kyle Wittingham said, you know, in his own words, at some point, we've got to turn a corner. And if you're Michigan, yeah, no matter what the cost that would you rather, you know, play a guy that costs a lot of money. So you don't feel like you're wasting that money because you're going to feel like you're

9:51wasting it anyway. If he's playing and he's really struggling again on the field, that's not going to change. So yeah, I've got 21 or 20 to 10, 20 to 10. I just cannot get by Michigan scoring enough against his Oklahoma defense. I've got a lot of faith. So this is one of the one of the early flips from my preseason record predictions for everybody. So what's your score prediction, Jay? You can drop it to wrap this segment. I think that I truly believe it's going to be like 27 to six. I think it's going to be close to people think I think Oklahoma runs the ball like crazy. They literally just run it down their throat. And you think 27 to six is closer than people think? Yes. I've seen people saying 40 and 50. I don't know. I don't think it's going to be LSU Clemson. Now, grants it if Oklahoma explodes in their run and pass game and they do beat them like LSU Clemson. And I'm going to go ahead and say they're going to be pushing for nanny run. But I don't think it's going to be that much of I think Oklahoma is going to be smart.

10:51Just get the hell out of here healthy and win the game comfortably. Get early lead and just leave. Oh, if Oklahoma takes an early lead by multiple possessions and Michigan's got a throw to come back game over. Exactly. That's mop and I think that's what they're going to try to do. Yeah. That's that's that that biggest key for the game for for the Michigan Woolverines. You have got to get off to an early lead. You cannot be relying on Bryce Underwood's arm, not against his Oklahoma defense. Jason Smith, a locked on Sooners, he knows that there's an under the radar, powerful and on conference game. All right, two power for non conference games that I think are going very overlooked that will be an enjoyable college football viewing experience and will be a teaser to the night cap in the game that everyone is going to be watching this week. Of course, Ohio State at Texas.

12:51So let's start with Tennessee traveling to Georgia Tech. Our friends at Fandall have Tennessee favored by 11 and a half points. I lean towards the points. This is not what I'm putting in one of my worst bets of the week, meaning a bet that I feel confident in for various reasons, but I can't title it anything else for I have brought shame upon my house. The way that I have started this season after vowing to be better than last year on the same trajectory, unfortunately, right now. But that'll be addressed in the third segment on this show. So what I have questions about in this game, how does Tennessee's offense look on the road? You have got a new system. You have got not a new system. Sorry. You have a new quarterback running the system in phase on Brandon for Tennessee going down to Georgia Tech. And look, I don't know how many of you watch Colorado's game against Georgia Tech. But remember, Georgia Tech is going to be extra rested in this game. Alberto Mendoza looked pretty darn good. Now, would they have to be able to do better? And it's not going to be easy against this gym knows defense from a schematic standpoint.

13:52They have got to be able to run the ball more effectively than they did against Colorado. And if the buffs front is able to take care of Georgia Tech's offensive line, where Brent key places a lot of pride, a lot of passion puts a lot of recruiting effort. And I'm sure dollars into that group. They did not perform well enough and clear up lanes for justice. He needs to have a 100 yard game or Tennessee could run away with with this one. Now, Tennessee underjush hypo has in the past struggled a times on the road and lost games that they shouldn't have. I'm thinking of Arkansas a couple of years ago when they went to Fayetteville and they went to the playoff later that year, but lost at Arkansas to Sam Pitman. Yeah, it was not good. I'm thinking of last year when they went to Alabama and they were playing well right until they threw a pick at the end of the first half. I'm thinking of do I need to go on Tennessee fans? It hasn't always been easy because it turns out winning on the road is hard. Even though they lost their first game of the year, I imagine Georgia Tech fans are still going to be rabid at the opportunity to knock off in SEC.

14:59And a ranked one at that should Tennessee be ranked? No, absolutely positively not. So 11 and a half is the line. I think Georgia Tech can hang around enough. I am not willing to trust them. It's the Tennessee defense for me. When Colorado's run game was good enough to go in there and kind of squeak out a win at the end, Tennessee's run game is further along and has more overall talent than what Colorado's has. So I am trusting Josh Hype will go down there and win. I don't think that it is going to be particularly easy. This is not one of my spread picks for the week, but I'm taking Tennessee to go to Georgia Tech and win 24 to 17. I think this is a lower scoring game than some folks might think. So that's one power for a game that is flying away. And I mean way under the radar because if you're just looking at the A people, there's an upset possibility there. Georgia Tech could win the game. One shocked me. One bit. I am not very bullish on the Tennessee volunteers, not compared to some other people.

16:02I think there are seven or eight win team. I've got him eight and four going into this year. I'm sure Vols fans expect a good deal more, but they have to win this game. Of course, if they want to make the college football play because if they lose, they have too many tough games on their schedule. They'll be out. A loss to Georgia Tech who's got a loss to Colorado who I think will be around a 500 team this year. Yeah, that's just not going to hold up enough over time to compare with some of the other resumes in the sport. So speaking of playoff at Dark Horse candidates, question mark. One of these teams in the next game I want to talk about is a program that would have been in the playoff last year. If they'd applied the rules this year because this year, power for conference champions automatically make the college football playoff. Yeah, that's right. The Duke Blue Devils at eight and five as the ACC champs with Darian Mensa quarterback who might make the playoff this year with Miami would have been in the college football playoff last year. Might have been fun. They couldn't play a lick of defense last season. They played a lot of it in week one against Tulane holding the green wave to three points.

17:03Tulane already made a change of quarterback, by the way. I was not high in the green wave coming into the year. It's off to a pretty solid start with that prediction. Duke going to Illinois. This was a game where Illinois traveled to the blue devil stadium last year and they won pretty comfortably. They didn't even play perfect and they still won comfortably. Now what's interesting is you have two new quarterbacks in this game and I am more than a little intrigued to see which of these guys has better command and control. Those are usually baseball terms of their respective offensive systems going into game to this game is being played in champagne. I think Illinois wins. I think Illinois will cover as well. I think Kate and Hauser in Illinois offense can do enough. Bobby House defense didn't get off to a perfect start in week one against UAB. So I think that Duke is going to be able to score though. I'm still not enamored with their offensive personnel. They didn't look phenomenal last week. They did enough, but they weren't great against Tulane. So might still be figuring some things out.

18:03Having lost their quarterback and leading receiver. They do have a thousand yard rusher back from last year. But I think Illinois wins. I think they cover the five and a half and get a solid non conference victory here. I'll take the Align 90 win 28 14. I'll touch down somebody on this. A field goal out there. So 28 14. I think Illinois knocks off due now in the group of six ranks. This is a playoff implicated matchup. No matter which way you slice it. Boys he state hosting Memphis. These are two of the best coaches in all of the G six. And sure you could look at boys he state and say, well, they're a great program. They've always been good and all this Spencer Danielson is the head coach because he was a lot better than the guy and the Avalos. Now the DC at TCU and has been for the last couple of years. He's a lot better than what Avalos was before. So it's not automatic that you win at a high level of boys he state. Spencer Danielson has done that. And this off season expect once again with how they played against Oregon last week. And what kind of season they could have in the new look packed 12 expect him to get power

19:06for interest for head coaching opportunities this fall. Winter whenever the coaching carousel actually starts to kick off October. You never know James Franklin's fired before Halloween last year. Danielson will definitely get power for interest. I'm sure he already has. He's going up against Charles Huff. Third team in three years. Marshall after a stint one year at Southern Miss now at Memphis. He could be in his fourth school at four years in 2027 folks. Because he's got Memphis playing at a high level early on. And I did not expect that. They've got over 50 new players that came in via the portal a lot from Southern Miss. Others from elsewhere. They've got a former division to starting quarterback. Last time we saw that was oh, I don't know. The playoffs semi finals last year with Trinidad Shameless. There when at UNLV was not something that I'd expected. I made it one of my best bets. That of course went and Memphis just went out. They didn't just cover the four and a half. They won the game outright. Against the UNLV team that in the group six world was highly regarded coming into the year.

20:10Justifiably so. They went on the road to play Hawaii and looked like the team that could make the College Football playoff as the G6 representative. UNLV is not out of it because they have a power for chance against Cal at home early October. That's a game to keep an eye on. But bringing this back to Memphis. OIC state looked good. They were buttoned up. They were the cleaner, hotter starting football team against a top three team. Top two team at the time in the AP pool in Oregon who might have the best roster in all of college football. So according to our friends at Fandall, OIC state is favored by eight and a half points. I think that's a few too many, even at home. I just have a lot of faith in what Charles Huff did. He just proved with this team. They can do it on the road. Lot of belief in that locker room. Watch for the defensive line late in the game against Oregon. The ducks defensive front took over against the Boise state offensive line and they were overmatched. Now, it's a different level of challenge against the Boise state offensive line for sure.

21:11But against UNLV, it was the Memphis defensive line that was swarming Jackson Arnold nonstop. And Jackson Arnold can move. Maddox, Madsen, cannot. So I will never pick against Boise state to lose to a group of six team at home. It is an incredibly difficult thing to do. But I think the Broncos win a pretty low scoring game. I'm going to go, let's get weird with it. Why not? Why not? 22-18. Go for two. A safety figure it out. 22-18. Just for the fun of it. Boise state wins. I think Memphis covers that eight and a half. So those are not official picks for what I have to unfortunately dub worst bets of the week. But these ones are all the lines of course provided by our friends and the show. At Fandall. I have to dub them until I get over 500 at least on the year. I am sitting at 4 and 6. Not all hope is lost. There's not a huge hole to climb out of here.

24:164 and 6 so far in the year. I'm still upset at Ole Miss. Goodness. 14 point lead. 4.45 to go. And you'll cover 6 and a half. Goodness gracious. Stop peek-golding was a defensive. Anyway, not going down that rabbit hole. Here we go. Speaking of underrated power for games involving an SEC team, are you aware that this is the week? I mentioned several times during the off season. It's finally happening on Saturday. Mississippi State is traveling to Minnesota in another bout for big 10 SEC supremacy. Sure. Ohio State and Texas, well, I'm mentioning in the segment as well. Sure, they get all the headlines. But aren't you concerned? Aren't the depth conversations going to get a big data point this week? It might depend on who you ask. Mississippi State and Camario Taylor. Yeah. Their offense is capable of scoring points. Based on the caliber of opponent that Minnesota played last week, they're also capable of scoring points. Now, I've talked about Minnesota this off season.

25:18They have some real players on both sides of the ball. Darius Taylor is a real running back. Anthony Smith is a real NFL caliber defensive man. My question is if this game gets into a shootout, which is not the way Minnesota typically plays under PJ Fleck. When they've gone up against high flying offenses, they have struggled to keep up at times. They want to play a more traditional big 10 West sort of game, you know, 13 to 10 and that sort of grind. Can Drake Lindsey keep up with Camario Taylor on the other side? Because that guy can make special throws all over the field. Also what does Camario Taylor have in a road environment like the one he's going to get at Minnesota? That's the biggest reason why I'm going with the Golden Gofers here. Our friends at Fandall have got them as one and a half point underdogs. I'm taking them to win the game outright. 17, 14 tight hard fought game. More defense means more rowing the boat less defense.

26:20That boat might get some holes in the bottom higher scoring game. I think absolutely favors Mississippi State. I know Minnesota scored a bunch last week, but they were playing and they were playing in a very opponent. So it's kind of hard to take things away. Both these teams had a tune up both to 1 and 0. I am excited to watch this football game. So I think Minnesota wins outright. They're an underdog. Yeah, of course I'm going to go with that. So that of course means Ohio State is in here too. Texas is favored by one and a half points. Basically a pick them. I've been on Ohio State all off season. I am not wavering here. I wavered off the Wolverines for as we talked about earlier. Well founded reasons, but right now, no, not going to do it. Not going to do it. I'm sticking with Ohio State, sticking with Ryan Dave. I think mapatrishes defense makes a play. I think Julian Sain is a much improved quarterback. And look, I think archmaning is as well. I just have more trust in Julian Sain than I do in archmaning even on the road. So I think the buck guys go in. I think they win an absolute classic.

27:21This is a really talented game. I take the first half over and the second half under. I think on script, these offenses will do great. Once the defense coordinators adjust, I think it will be tough because there's a lot of defensive talent on the field in this game. If I'm an Ohio State fan, I'm hoping this is Kenyatta Jackson's breakout performance. Him or Bo Ackinson, one of the two, they get after archmaning, get them on the ground. Rush Lane discipline matters. Ohio State does that. They win the game. I think they will find a way. Give me 20. I like letting these rip in real time, but 3027, 3027 Ohio State. Goes in, gets it. That feels too high scoring, doesn't it? Yeah, it does 2421. I like these defenses. 2421, then Ohio State wins by a field goal as the greatly core. So I used to say. So another power for a game off your radar, but, but kind of fun. Also kind of impactful, given the impatience of one of these schools with their prior head coach.

28:22This is a game, barriode, a might have to win against Wake Forest. And for almost that reason alone and some confidence from Nick Arvin of Lockdown Boilermakers, I'm taking Purdue to win outright against Wake Forest. Tight game. I think it could be pretty high scoring. I am going Purdue to win. Ryan Brown did some great things, especially in the second half last week. I'm going 3531. I think Purdue outright beats Wake Forest, who I've talked about as having had the quietest nine win season in the power for and all of college football last year, which they did. Purdue has to win this game. They have not beaten a power for team under barriode. If that continues for the rest of the season, he might be done at the end of the year. And Purdue will again be looking for a new head coach. It's been downhill since Jeff Brahms left, but I'm taking Purdue to win that one. 3531. So plus three. Yeah, I will, I will take the points there. Couple of favorites, because if you go all underdog, if you go all favorite, that's probably

29:25foolish, right? I don't know. I'm just going to be giving up betting advice here, given my track record lately, Utah at home against Arkansas. All you all you 12 and a half point favorite. That's fine. That's fine. 38 14. I think Utah wins, covers cruises, Devin Dan Pierre, Bird Ficklin, that entire Utah offense. I think the defense with a great crowd behind them will come to play. They did so against Florida a couple of years ago, Morgan Scally. Now the head coach was defense coordinator. I think they're winning big this week. So Utah big number, swallowed the points 12 and a half. Last one. I considered this because it goes against something I've talked about for a while on these segments. But guess what? It hasn't gone well on these segments, of course. So maybe it's okay to go against. Did you know the last week Austin Simmons had more touchdowns than in completions? I know, I know. They were playing Arkansas Pine Bluff. That was the start I was looking for for this Missouri offense. And even without their offense coordinator Kirby Moore, the head coach now Washington State, they looked the way they're supposed to against an inferior opponent last week.

30:30Kansas did not. I think they've got a little lost identity. Kansas doesn't feel like they did it. They're peak with Lance Lyre pulled. This would be a game changer for Kansas. It'd be really impactful for the big 12 as well. But I think Missouri goes in to Kansas gets the win. I do not trust that Kansas defense whatsoever. So I'm going to go Missouri 34 Kansas 20 final swallow the five and a half they get the win. So works best for the week. Missouri minus five and a half Utah minus 12 and a half Ohio State and Minnesota both plus one and a half and Purdue plus three. Let's have a great week of college football. Everybody, appreciate it.
