1:00petitioning to change the outcome of the Western Michigan and Michigan game. Now I got the best explanation and most logical one of what actually happened. I know that conspiracies can run wild and how much were they paid and all this sort of stuff. There is always a logical explanation that generally comes back to incompetence and this is indeed what happened. So Mike Pereira longtime rules analyst shout out Santa Clara alum by the way was on Joel Clack show not long ago and explain that the discrepancy between the internal clock that the officials actually were looking at and used and the clock that was shown to the stadium and to the TV broadcast can in fact happen. But if there is a discrepancy there, you are to go with the clock that everybody else is being shown because the people that are being shown that clock include everybody on the sideline that's actually playing the game. And so he said that process was not correctly followed and I thought well that is the

2:00most down to earth. I guess explanation of what actually happened in Ann Arbor on Saturday, which is insane. Now initially the Mac released the statement very quickly as did the big 10 and the big 10 statement I talked about on the show. It was an exactly fantastic look. The Mac released the statement saying yep we accept the process, we do all this stuff. Now there's a new statement out there and I quote from the Min American Conference Commissioner Dr. John Steinbrecker quote after further study and investigation it is now evident that replay protocol was not properly followed in determining whether time remain on the game clock at the conclusion of the Western Michigan versus Michigan football game. The established replay protocol requires that the game clock displayed on the program feed that's the one we're all looking at be used in determining whether time remained. Instead the big 10 conference replay crew relied upon the clock feed embedded within its replay system. As a result, one second was placed back on the game clock and an additional play was awarded.

3:04We know what happened on that play. That's not in the statement of course. It continues. Not a judgment regarding the proper amount of time to place on the clock. It was an error in the application of the established replay protocol governing this specific end of game timing situation had the protocol been properly followed and the program feed clock been used. No additional play would have been awarded and Western Michigan would have won the game 12 to 7. As a result, the Min American Conference has submitted formal appeals to the NCAA FBS oversight committee and the college football playoff. The Mac is requesting that those bodies recognize Western Michigan as the actual winner of the game for purposes of their respective rankings, evaluations and selection deliberations and take such other corrective action as maybe within their authority and quote that is from the office of the Mid American Conference commissioner. So they are officially requesting that the game get changed.

4:06I don't believe that that is going to happen. Now should it? Yes, because the process that was supposed to be followed should not have allowed Michigan to get another play. If the officials had gone by the book on that process, the second hell marry would never have taken place and thus Western Michigan would have won the game. So they are well within their right. And for any of you conspiracy theorists out there in the comments below and I know that that you're out there. It's happened. It's how the world works. How the internet is. If you think it well, they just paid them off. Well, you can put that theory to rest right here right now. There is no way the big 10 or the University of Michigan wants this coming out. It is reasonable to believe that they issued a statement because they believe what they had been told.

5:07And I don't think it's unreasonable to say, yep, couple days went by. The process was reviewed. The rules were analyzed. And yeah, we don't actually think this is right. And we're officially going to petition for it. And look, if you're the Mac, this is absolutely the right move. You're standing up for your school. You're standing up for your coach that would have a historic moment. And oh, by the way, don't forget in the group of six ranks, when you're trying to make the playoff, power for wins are the hottest commodity out there. They are golden drachmas. You cannot have anything of higher value than beating a power for a team. Did you know the Western Michigan won the Mac last year? I got to tell you, it wasn't fully on my radar because the Mac hasn't come close to putting a team in the playoff. But this would be the impetus for that taking place because if they then go 12 and one, win their conference championship again and they have a win on the road at Michigan. Yeah, you could get into the college football playoff. So if this were to officially get overturned, look, moral victory is still count for something in the group of six ranks, but they don't count for everything the same the way that an actual concrete win does. So they're officially petitioning, I believe they are within the right to do so.

6:11I don't believe the replay crew handled this correctly. And yet I still expect Michigan to officially be declared the winner. And I'll tell you why coming up next. 8:11So the reason that I don't believe this will ultimately get overturned in Western Michigan's favor, even though it clearly should, is the premise of officials made a mistake, even though this is such a high profile one, any unique one because they put time on the clock to allow a play to transpire that wouldn't have otherwise taken place. I cannot recall an instance in which officiating screwing up during the game or not following the rule correctly or making a bad call was the impetus for overturning that actual result. Because if you do this and look, we can all recognize that that the mistake was made. Clearly it was the process was not properly adhered to. If you set this precedent of the official screwed up and it cost us the game, what do you open the door for?

9:11I'm imagining I'm not saying that it's the best reasoning. I'm saying it's the most logical reasoning that the NCAA FBS oversight committee or college football playoff is likely to come back with. And look, here's the good news. A college football playoff team does not have to be a group of six champion and it is indeed subjective. So if you look at Western Michigan and say, hey, they actually beat Michigan that day, we just don't officially have the playoff committee can treat it as if they won the game because they actually did. Will that be how it's officially documented? I doubt it because I doubt they're going to say, well, the officials made a mistake. So yeah, we have to come in and correct that. I don't know that the oversight committee or the playoff would want to open that can it worms. But if you're Western Michigan, you still come out of this a net positive number one, as a program has handled this chaotic mess with absolute grace and class. And number two, we all watch the football game, including the playoff committee.

10:16So they might look back one day when evaluating the group of six resumes and they're trying to determine who do we put into the college football playoff and 12 and one Western Michigan with their only loss being to the Michigan Wolverines in a game that they actually won is probably going to be enough to put them in the college football playoff. Now that depends on what happens with Boise State who played organ tough, depends on what happens with UNLV if they can be caliter this year and bounce back and go 12 and one at the end of the year. If Memphis can keep things rolling along, they play Boise State this week. All of that is contingent upon the outcome of those games for sure. But if you're Western Michigan, whether you get the overturn outcome here or not, you are still moving in the positive. If your end goal is, hey, let's put ourselves in the college football playoff discussion as a group of six team because you absolutely have done that. And whether or not this gets overturned, I think that can happen regardless and should happen regardless. Need our remind you, JM, you made the playoff last year. I know the rules are different, but still it's just something to consider.

11:19JM, you made the playoff last year with zero power for wins. They lost the Louisville by 14 and week one or two. They won every other game. And then yep, the sun belt's a stronger league than the Mac, but don't forget, Mac has Sacramento State now. Oh, Sacramento State's off to just an okay start as an FPS team. But again, wanted to hop on and give you guys some reaction. I don't think this will actually end up getting overturned, even though based on the rules, it should. I just don't think that they will like the precedent that that would potentially set because you can have calls that impact what happens on the field and the outcome of a game. So just my two cents want to hop on, give you an instant reaction tomorrow on the show. We'll look at Arizona BYU. We'll look at Alabama and Kentucky.
