1:05Toath and Tyson Rwiki, wonder if there is a better way to fix the NHL's tanking issue. I won't get into it, you'll hear it for yourself. But I'm sorry. Well, well. Well, well, well. This is the guy that can't share who we were just talking about. He tries to sell me happy. I'm telling that they're still good. Well, look at you now. Well, if it isn't a guy, you told me that the guy that I work for, it's periodically, it's hooked up to tubes. He's like, he's like, the guy from, he's like an alien, you know, he's hooked up to stuff. He's going to be OK. He's going to be OK. Everything's OK. Yeah.

It's an epidemic. At least in the NBA. At least in the NBA. At least in the NBA. Yes. But usually the NHL does kind of follow suit to where the NBA goes. And we got to hope that for the leaks sake that the NHL doesn't go down this road because

3:10the NBA is a total joke of a league right now. It is. It really is. It's actually sad. Yeah. And you're psyched up about the NCAA March Madness, but actually if you are an actual basketball fan and you were a fan of the sport, then you should have transitioned to the NCAA a long time ago. Yeah. That's why I did. Honestly. It's still at its core. What the game should be. As a massive lifelong Sixers fan and got right back into it when AI came to Philly and they went to the finals and was all about it. And then the last 10 years, I just, there's not one thing. As I said on this podcast before, the NBA is everything that's wrong with pro sports. So what do you, so what do you think about the NHL can they fix this? They can fix it. I don't think it's, it's not nearly as bad as the NBA. And there's also like a lot of incentives too for like owners to make the playoffs. Yeah. So there's always going to be that and there's always just those kind of owners operate differently. They don't want to, they don't think that all of we were bad and soaked losses for three

4:13years. Then we'll be able to make a ton of money once we get the top prospects and like NHL GM's owners don't think like that. Yeah. So I don't think we're ever going to get to the point where the NBA is so crap shooting. And you know, like it's kind of interesting because the NHL lottery compared to the NBA lottery. They've changed, they've changed a lottery in the NHL because there was a Detroit lost. They weren't in the top three. They got moved out. Remember that? We felt that that was unfair because of the season that they had. They should terrible. That was right. They should have had at least a top three. I mean, you look at the NBA. It's, I think they dropped to seventh. It was something like that. That's when they took cider and everybody was like, why are you taking him? And if you, and if you look at the NBA, the top six spots are up for grabs. Yeah. So like there's, there's a little bit more incentive, but it's a little bit more risky too for NBA teams. But so on that point, I don't think that we'll ever see this. But there was an interesting idea brought up by an NBA reporter. He called it the gauntlet. And this is a solution to get rid of tanking. And so the gauntlet begins one to two weeks before the regular season starts and the gauntlet

5:16is a 48 hour window where teams can look for a partner to swap picks with. It acts as a way to challenge other teams and say, we think we'll have a better season than you. So essentially, like, say that you have the top pick, you can go, I think Nashville is going to be really bad. I want their first. And then so you get their first for the year. And so that's supposed to incentivize teams to not tank because someone else has your pick. Wow. I'm confused. I'm a little confused on how it would run, but people would, he's going to go, oh, you got to go. Wow, this is our greatest podcast yet. This is see later by Tyson and people said he don't have to, and so I don't even have to. Yeah. I'm not. Do you understand this gauntlet thing? Well, it sounds to me. I don't. I don't get the all the details. I need to explain more like you. But it sounds to me like you just have to start of the year where I guess the last teams,

6:19but I don't understand how the summer goes with free agency. Like if you finish in the bottom six and you have this option to pick somebody's pick, then you, what if you really improve in the off season, like we've assigned some free agents or whatever, but it's interesting that, you know, what would happen if you like, so say you picked Anaheim to be a terrible team this year, and they weren't advice versus say you didn't pick Winnipeg, and yet they finished in the bottom five, right? Like it's how you pick this because that's what I have to start, it would have to start from the top going down because if you were the worst team and you said, hey, I'll take my own pick. Yeah. And you sucked. Yeah. But I don't know. If you are a bad season and you're terrible, I still think you should be. So the point is is like if you're Vancouver this year, another team going in the next year could take your pick. So you don't want to finish last because you want to finish up higher because they're going to take your first overall pick potentially. So it would prevent you from throughout the year.

7:19Like right now it would prevent Vancouver from just losing more games and keeping the percentage of getting the first pick, there would be incentive to so basically from what I understand it, if you don't finish in the bottoms, if you finish in the bottom six, you could lose your pick. Yeah. So you have incentive to not tank to not finish in the bottom six or somebody will take it. All right. But I don't know if that's what it sounded like to me because tomorrow we can do this with him when he doesn't have to run. So you guys were way off and also anybody listening to the podcast, the exclusive edition, I apologize.
