Just what you've been up to this summer and what's been keeping you busy. Hey guys, thanks for having me today. Yeah, no, it's been a pretty hectic summer out. Oh, West here in Colona. The girls just started school today. So I got a little bit of freedom here for a couple hours, so looking forward to that. That's that's how we got you to join us. Give me tell give me till Tuesday and then I'm free from like nine till three.

2:07Yeah, other than that, it's been a fantastic summer. A lot of camping trips, a lot of great outdoor activities for our family. So yeah, it's been great. Yeah, we really appreciate you joining us Jordan always like having older players on or retired players and especially once from Anatoba as well. And Colona, there's a ton of NHL guys out there. You must not have a hard time finding some ice with some guys. Yeah, no, there's there's about 25 of us here that we play on Thursday nights. So we call it the TNHL Thursday night. Yeah, I'm talking about that. Yeah, it's great group of guys. A lot of veteran guys, older guys, newer guys that are are newly retired. But yeah, it's it's all about the dressing room, right? Like being able to that's probably the one thing that I miss the most is the camaraderie in the dressing room and and just sharing old stories, especially from the Wally Old Veterans, like guys like Mike Ridley.

3:12Yeah, former UMM buys in too long history there. I believe I think it was a bison for a while. So how do you look back at your career Jordan? I'm glad to hear you're still playing. I'm glad to hear the families well. 723 games 161 points, a thousand and 10 penalty minutes, 42 playoff games, 10.65 penalty minutes. That's quite the career and we'll get into your brand in days as well. But how do you look back at your career and what you accomplished? Yeah, I think looking back, I wouldn't change anything. You know, I was a great experience. A lot of ups and downs. But you know, it's it's amazing what the hockey world does for an individual. I'm very fortunate that you know, it's been on my side and you know, I was able to walk away from the game on my own terms. So, you know, I left everything on the table and wouldn't change it for a thing. And today I get to watch my three daughters grow up and be a part of their lives on a daily basis and as much as I love for them to to to be able to watch Daddy play, I wouldn't change this for a thing.

4:22You know, I, you know, I've had a lot of teammates who have had kids during their playing days and they miss out on a lot. So overall, very blessed. Just, you know, I think you'd have to ask my wife, I feel fine physically, mentally, but you'd have to ask my wife about my brains. But other than that, I feel, feel pretty good. You know, I walked away without any major injuries. Just, you know, minor aches and pains here and there. And I usually feel them aches and pains more on Friday mornings after. And Jordan, you mentioned just how much you, you loved being a part of the locker room and just sharing stories with some of the guys, but looking back at your careers, they're a guy in particular that you look back on and go, man, I was, I'm so grateful to have that guy in my corner and that guy showed me the ropes. Yeah, I had a lot of great teammates, but I think, you know, guys like, you know, Paul, Korea, Jason, Arna, Jim McKenzie, the late Greg Johnson, you know, a lot of these guys really took a kid from the Norris and and paved the way and, and, you know, kind of took me under their wing.

5:43You know, it's total, total team effort coaching staff, you know, the national predator organization really helped me, you know, get into the swing at things that are very young age. You know, I was only 20 years old when I moved to Nashville and there was a lot going on in my life back then. And, you know, I'm just glad I had the dressing room and those guys to really hold down the anchor. I wanted to ask you, because right before we came to air, I was talking about your world junior time and how you just like we're just buzz saw out there. And then the weekings days as well and everything else. I wanted to ask about your game in particular in that error that you played in and where the games at now, because you might not have scored a lot of goals, Jordan, but at the time at the peak of your career, junior and NHL, you sold tickets like people wanted to come watch you play because of your energy and you must be proud of that. Yeah, you know, I the game definitely has evolved since then, but during my era, it fit right into to my playing style. And, you know, I wasn't the biggest guy out there, you know, back then in the late 90s, early 2000s, it was the bigger you are, the better chance you have of playing. And for me, in my stature, 5 foot 898 pounds going out there and grinding away.

7:07That was the type that was required and it just blood right into my game. So, you know, there's a lot of steps that are involved and a lot of luck and all things got to line up in order for, you know, these young kids to make it into the NHL. You know, it's the mindset today, you know, a lot of parents look at us NHL or bus and, you know, I tell kids there's a lot of different avenues to get to to that level. So, you know, enjoy the ride. You know, like the game is probably 85, 90% mental mental. So once you train your brain, how to to be mentally tough, you know, anything's possible. Just take it and stride. I don't want to go back even a little bit further than the brand week in days and go back to your time with OCN. And my dad, he was a part of the Steelers organization at that time and he remembers when you and your brother would come to town and the rank would just be packed full, full to the brim. Did you have an inkling even back then, you know, with the two to flew being a thing that the way that you play the game is really good to resonate with a lot of hockey fans.

8:28Yeah, I mean, I think having the opportunity as a 15 year old to play in OCN with my older brother and having coach Gardner, McDougal, who has been a very successful coach over the last 25 years, guide me and kind of help me make it to the next level. It was it was a fantastic experience. Actually this past summer, we had our 30 year reunion up in the pa there for the OCN Blizzard. So it was a great to see a lot of familiar faces. It's been probably 20, 30 years since I've seen some of my old teammates there, but a lot of great memories and, you know, it was like growing up in my in my hometown, you know, small town. We got to do a lot of ice fishing out on the snowmobiles and and whatnot. So, yeah. And then as far as the two to flew, I didn't really quite understand what that meant because you only know one way of playing hockey and that was go hard or go home.

9:41And sometimes they went home because of the two to flew. Do you still fall the game now and what's your thoughts on the jets? I mean, we're just about to in our next segment, revisit the whole hellbuck situation and player does want to, you know, he wants a trade. He wants to move on from the organization where the jets are at, but do you still follow the jets and we ever close ever signing here and playing in your home province. Funny you say that because back in 2010, I think, is that the inaugural season they came back 2010? 2011 they came. Yeah, I had a great interview for free agency day and after we hung up the phone with Chevy and Claud Noel there. I looked over at my wife and I said, I'm looks like we're going to want to peg and unfortunately a few more phone calls came after that and at that point in my hockey career, I didn't know how much time I had left and I just I wanted to give myself the best opportunity to have a chance to win the Stanley Cup.

10:42And so I signed with Detroit and and the rest was just history, you know, I think I would have loved to really put on that jets jersey at one point in my career. But unfortunately that didn't happen and I think, you know, over the last few years, they've had a really great run and I'd love to see them back, you know, at the top of the league because the the white out is something to see and actually playing in that arena. Yeah, it was probably one of the louder arenas in the league. I can't imagine how many jets two tutors is what I sold if that would have happened. Yeah, I mean, I it would have been great, you know, I by looking back, I can't, you know, dwell on where I where I was in my career. I just just grateful I got to play 13 years in the National Hockey League for a kid from ranking in the new NUVA and you know, hope to inspire more kids throughout my public speaking and and what I'm doing today.

11:55And I want to go away from the ring for this question, your joy. And this is something that I really admire about your story, but that's the lifestyle of providing to survive in the NUVA. So can you sort of paint that picture of what that was like in what you learned at a young age? Yeah, I think a lot of guys, a lot of my teammates actually would always ask me, you know, to it's how are you so mentally strong and like, you know, I reflect back to to growing up in in NUVA and you know, the survival mode mentality every day where it was a challenge. And I think, you know, kids nowadays really need to build that mental toughness in order to, you know, break, make those breakthroughs. And, you know, a lot of times in this generation, everyone wants to know what the end game is going to be before they they step in with two feet. And, you know, I, I leaped in with two feet, not knowing what the end game was going to be and here I am today looking back and reminiscing and, you know, sometimes I kind of have a little chuckle here and there as to like, wow, like, I was really there, you know, how, how the heck did that happen and everything just kind of happened so quick, you know, and 20, 30 years later looking back.

13:17Wouldn't change it for a thing, you know, it's funny Jordan that your hockey journey is often a life journey right like it's you had a dream and you wanted to pursue it, but how you pursued is is no matter what people want life is is just a life journey story on on how to go about it and how to believe in yourself. Yeah, I, I'm firm believer in the pursuit of happiness, you know, and I think in regards to that, like there's going to be a lot of hardships and growing and, you know, failures like that's that's the biggest thing where, you know, accepting failure as as constructive criticism where you use it to fuel you to to be better next time. You know, failures part of maturing as an individual so it's okay to fail your youngsters, you know, and people don't see that part of the game that, you know, your average fan only sees the success that's put on the ice.

14:23You know, we're human too, we make mistakes, we have, you know, a lot of obstacles and people pulling you in different directions, so having a good core group, you know, within your family, your agents, you know, your day to day living, your friendships, you know, there's there's a lot of moving parts that is involved. Jordan, thank you so much for taking the time, we really appreciate it and we really appreciate your perspectives as well into the hockey world and just life in general, right before we let you go though, is there anything that you want to plug. No, just, you know, I just want to thank all the fans in one and a big and Manitoba for all their great support over the years and, you know, my mom and dad, my sister Corrine finding the courage and bravery to share our family story. I love my family we're closer than we've ever have because of better communication, so I encourage more men to find the courage and the confidence to ask for the help and you know, the three hardest words for any man is I need help and, you know, I find that truly matured man will show emotion and bravery to the world.

I do read along the boards there and I just remember seeing I go mad I would not want to be caught in the trolley tracks of that guy. I just remember the the the well where I first started becoming a fan of him from afar before I moved here was the world juniors and how he just was a buzz saw there and this guy that had 71 74 points is final two years in Brandon more than a point per game player. How to roll at the world juniors and played it to a tee and then you know just trying to a week in ticket that that year with him and and so much so right like and I love that messenger to because that's what I tell my own sons. That's what I tell anybody who asked me parents or kids. There's not one way there is a million ways to go and it's not just to the NHL you can have such a rewarding life through the game and through education or however your route is like it's just.

16:58We get into this train where I got to be drafted and then I got to get you know to camp and then like even on this team we've got guys that I've been here a year I want traded because I'm not playing yet. There's so many ways to make hockey a part of your life and and in a positive way to help you forward your life in your journey. Yeah and for a guy who's had as many tribulations as he's had throughout his life the perspective that he now has on life it's truly that's the best part of the interview he sounds happy and content and enjoying life and that's you know the best part about that for me anyways. 18:05That's what I take from that he just sounds happy right like and that's what all you can ask for and I'm glad happy for him and his family and school started today and three daughters and sounds he's having a blast the other thing I take from that is that that is that Thursday night game and. Oh, Colona I don't know if people understand like who's all in that Thursday night game but it's some I would pray though of the players I know that live there it's Jerome again. It's I think the need of Myers Josh George's works for the Colona Rockets organization I think he's in that Thursday night and she Weber she Weber I think is there like it is it's those national teams were tough man you got to go up against shape Weber George to like there I mean there's a lot of those players that live there in the summer but those players like Tyler Myers and all that would be back in at their training camps right yeah exactly so the leftovers are those guys of like to two and again La and Josh George's and she Weber and yeah no just they got a charge for that but speaking of that's what I was thinking like go to a beer late game I think I might actually pay to go watch that Thursday night game absolutely like a little alumni

19:12game but you said leftovers there Jim we're going to get to some of our Monday I guess Tuesday leftovers after a long weekend and just a bit but there was some more Hello Buck chatter over the weekend and this is from Elliott Friedman who was on NHL tonight and this was the cold I was kind of floating around social media over the weekend but Friedman said quote some of the things that were available at the beginning of the summer or at the draft are no longer available and I just want to make some clarification there because I've seen a decent amount of people talk online about this quote and some are taking it as if teams don't want to pay the price for Connor hell Buck anymore I don't think that's the case I think this is a situation where you look at what Buffalo was offering in a potential trade at the time and it was a fourth overall pick well they don't have that now they they took Daxon Rudolph and now they're going to keep them yeah some of the things are off the table because New Jersey's made some trades with Florida yeah exactly like there's a Florida trade as well with a broader and Florida traded with New Jersey and Ottawa so some of the things that were there before or after that are now gone

20:12that's what I think are I don't think a team saying they're going this is off the table now it's like I don't have it anymore yeah I do think that there's a little bit of you know at the start of the offseason teams are more willing to maybe move some pieces around because they're like well we can still add some things as this offseason goes along but now as you get into training camp a lot of teams are sitting there going we like our roster like our roster set right now we don't want to be so happy I think the jets are doing that I think the jets are sitting here going I okay let's revisit it and they revisited it and there's not a deal done they're going this is the roster we're going with minus corner hell buck yeah and this is there's this is where at if we can add to that with a trade great if not he sits until you anti up that's how I would approach it yeah and then now like we we had a couple of Texas about this as well and when do you think it starts to kind of bleed into the lock but I don't I don't think Chevy blew anything I can't I got to revisit this and I'm going to go on a rant here and I've already done this rant I'm sorry you don't get the eighth round pick back when you get Connor hella buck Connor hella bucks contract

21:14alone for a top three goaling this league with you believe he's top three or number one I'll let you decide is the first round pick 8.5 million dollars for a starting goal tender with that resume is not 11 million dollars it's not 12 million dollars it's not 10 million dollars for the next five years of it that's a first round pick you don't get Connor hella buck and you move down four spots I would say you don't get it I don't know that all day long I would too but that's it's your goalie it's a top six forward and it's your first round pick and if I can squeeze you for a defenseman or something else I will but you don't move down four spots and get Connor hella buck you think when the oilers move Connor McDavid they're going to go all and we'll just we'll just move down in the draft no absolutely not no we'll take your first round pick thank you the one thing with that is I do think that the four came into play was that the initial ask I believe was around like a fourth top six

22:15player and then one of their top prospects and then when we talk to David Pagnata he suggested that there was another ask from Winnipeg to get another one of their top prospects and I think that's where they wanted to swap picks are like we're giving you a second top prospect then we got a switch picks and that's and I don't mind Chevy say no to that I don't mind him say no to that and I don't know as I'm cadre at thirty seven years old got a first round pick you're kidding me if you're going to move down four spots and get our all world gold tender it's you're not getting the the eighth you give up the fourth and then we talk the fourth is for the contract which is going to save you immensely yeah over the years for sure but we'll see you know there's going to be there's going to be a lot of sorry I just get fired up about that is why didn't they move down why didn't they move down because it's there's a lot of people here that think he's washed there's a lot of people think that these cook because of the playoffs and all that I don't he's Connor freaking hella buck and there's a reason why teams like Florida and Carolina want him Seattle's not calling right it's

23:20because he can be the difference for them winning a Stanley Cup you think Florida would rather have Marks from her hella buck right now oh absolutely and they could still be in the hunt come once the season gets going to mark some struggles if I get hella buck on back in the playoffs for sure that's what they're thinking so this idea that you move down four spots I mean I would make that trade no for sure I give up I move down four spots in the first round and still get the all world goalie done deal yeah no and then there were other pieces involved in that deal as well to try and offset value but that's the unfortunate part of this that we don't know for listening we don't know exactly what the what the rest of the the deal look like right now I can I can totally understand them going I'm not giving you my first and these three high end prospects that's too much and you could pick like I get all of that but to me the contract alone is is the first round pick and then you negotiate the players that are involved for the player you're getting yeah to me that's just common sense you get a all world player and you got

24:23to give up first round pick because the contract if he was making a liest peterson money then I can understand why it's not going to be a first round pick but he's not yeah no and he's got five years left at that price yeah exactly and we'll see how that ages you know goalies do tend to age a little bit more drastically it's not about your four and five it's about the next three years and you give up a first round pick for top three goalie making only eight point five million dollars yep no totally let's have some text that we weren't able to get to on Friday and this one comes from Brian and Brian says everyone has a shelf life guys like price the long go longfist never finished their deals quick flurry and others got moved for pennies on the dollar hell about playing 65 plus games a year is likely going to start regressing long before five years is up get what you can and move on it's a business it's an entertainment will be okay I would love this get what you can crowd to come back when he plays for Florida this year and wins two cups in a row at 34 and 35 years old you have to stop acting like he's going to go to Florida or Carolina and not help them yeah we have to I want to keep reiterating this

25:27because it's so important and although it's there's some reason why those are the teams that want right and it's they believe they can be the difference to win the cup yeah and I get why it kind of gets clouded because of how this is all going down but yes at the end of the day he's still the player in 2.0 history and will probably be the greatest player in two-blown history for quite some times he's don't have MVP's every like every MVP's only come along once in a while and to have a goalie like that the jets are going to have to get a package of 18 valuable because he provides so much value to this franchise just in and of himself he's not 37 years old and has two years left and is at the at the decline he's not I'm sorry yeah well leave it look like the same mark is it this mark shiftees the client coming for sure is it closer than it's ever been of course it is he also just put up a career on 100 points on a team that they were the only people they had to shut down stop looking at age and start looking at the production for the age that you're getting there are guys at 27 years old that are out of the league because they don't have it anymore at 27 there are guys

26:31in the league Brent burns that can still play the game on a high level in their 40s stop looking at the age and look at the production that you're getting at the age yeah totally and even the texture brought up Roberto the long go look at the Roberto the long goes career even towards the end you know he was still a very good goalie and I actually do think that the long go in hellabuck style of play kind of me or each other's a little bit like they're not the most we talked to Jesse Granger and how he does the playoffs a lot of people take the brothers hey they both got gold medals too exactly I'm good point but like the long go in the second last Florida panthers had a 929 saber sandwich with a 247 goals against average like those those types of goals can still maintain their play later into their career. Texas you was awful last year his numbers were right on par with the league average for goal tenders scoring is up but I'm not saying he was great last year I'm not but on this team the way they defended and the way they got away from the system put him on Florida or North Carolina and let's have the discussion of regression yeah exactly what are the new Jersey even

27:33and I promise you those numbers will be better well I mean you think right and also like we watched the team last year there's stretches where they did not I just I don't get this he's washed up he's a diminishing asset you got to get I'm sorry I'm and I appreciate everybody's opinion this is why we're doing this we discuss it Florida and Carolina aren't dumb yeah they've won three cups between them in the last five years they're not sitting there going Connor hellbuck's wash let's bring them in and hope for the best yeah want to get to a couple more text that we missed on Friday and this comes from Mike Eau here's a thought why not if she has all that extra cash why not use it as an incentive pool for the players over in above what they have in their contracts already to possibly light a fire for the guys couldn't hurt or maybe a news and bony and a bag of pucks at least well Mikey I appreciate the the thought unfortunately the clippers in the NBA are going through a situation where they did something pretty similar and it's not going over to over them right now so I guess we've got to be careful I don't think money on the board is actually on the board anymore no it's

28:33got to be used to be on the board to be sitting there and then you can grab it as you came off with the final whistle it's on the board but it's not literally on the board it's just a number that way of a camera pants to it's like that's just that's just our system are ready to stick you know somebody's bad was the money on the board that's not happening too much with the players on the board but this is an interesting thought from Norbert here right before we get the head to break I want to bring this up. Norbert says we complain about the inability of teams on no trade list and how players do not want to come to Canada we all know there are three ways to get elite players draft trade or free agency. Well teams on no trade list are shut out on trades or free agency that only leads the leaves the draft if the NHL really wanted to make a bounce league why not enhance the chances of teams on no trade list to have higher percentages for the draft lottery for example have the entire draft based on draft percentages and then base the percentages on 75% from previous years finishes and 25% on how many teams are on that no trade list so how many players are on that teams no trade list with factor into

29:35your your draft percentages and while it's an interesting idea I don't think that the PA is going to want to do something like that there's two things here that you have to sell the players on and I think you could sell them on the percentage of no trades for a city because there's a lot of five 10 15 teams things clauses that kick in after a year or two so they understand that I got to give out you know like Connor hellbuck next year can have 10 teams on a no trade list or pick 10 teams he can go do sorry I want to clarify that pick 10 teams you can factor in the percentage of times a city can be used and if a city is is taking up 19 or 23% of the contracts you can't pick that city on your no trade list as new players come in and get no trades until it goes below the threshold so all of you now are safe but going forward over the next 10 years you can when you hand these out you can't get them the other one I love is and I think you could sell the players on this because even two years ago Connor hellbuck said I want to be a jet for life is you sell them

30:39on you have a full no trade all you want but the minute you ask for a trade I can trade you anywhere it's null and void yep no for sure and the players might argue no we don't like that we don't like that but but if you think of when a player signs oh is Dylan Lark and Connor hellbuck Brady to chalk they are committing and want to be there so it should be an easy sell to the players that go look full no trade no matter what if we come to you and go we're losing two years in a role and we want to use you as a chip and send you to a contender will you wave you can pick and choose where that contender is yep let us know what you think 204 70 68 68 I can send you anywhere yeah that's that's way it's got to go I think but it will be interesting to see how that all how no moves get handled in the future will be back with more jets at noon right after this quick commercial break fired up today on a Monday which is really a Tuesday well come back to jets at noon don't forget to call the boss and pizza hockey hotline at 204
