2:05Rob, how are you today? I'm doing very well, how are you doing? I'm good, I'm good. I'm finally getting the chance to talk to you. I feel like I'm this guy that bugs you every week to get you onto the show, so it's good to finally be able to talk to you through the phone. Obviously, you were at the game last night. What were your overall thoughts on how the Oilers did? Well, I think it's more or less what we've seen with the Oilers all season long. There's some big mistakes that should create these odd man rushes or a great ace going chance for the opposition. They find themselves trailing in a hockey game, and then the lack of urgency that they have defensively, they find that kind of urgency in the offensive zone as the game moves on. The Oilers play their best hockey once adversity in a game hits them, and they found adversity going into the third period. They got a big break with a silly penalty by the senators throwing the puck over the glass, and from that moment on, it was all admit so as they were the better of the two teams,

3:05and certainly got the result they deserved. Yeah, a couple of players with individual performances that we saw change throughout the game. Boy, what a great, great player that he's turning out to be for this Edmonton Oilers squad. Coming back from the break, he's got seven points in four games. I mean, do you think it was just the conditioning stint in Baker's field that kind of got him into the rhythm here, or what did you see from him over this last little stretch? Well, it certainly didn't hurt him going down there. It's funny. There's a lot of things written both in the media. Social media. I was so unfair from that avoid to go down there. It's not a good thing, but players like to play. And when you're a young player, you want to continue to improve. You want to continue to get ice time. You don't want to, you don't want three-week break. You want to continue doing what you do best and improve on it. So he goes down to the minors, gets in a game, feels good about himself when he comes back up, and he's been outstanding.

4:05When you look at what Savoy has become this year, I'm not sure there's a player that has more trust defensively on this team right now. His domesticity, his willingness to be on the right side all the time, yet it doesn't take away from his offensive prowess. So Savoy, I think probably has exceeded the expectations of the coaching staff and has certainly become a favorite of Noblok in certain situations. In case we've got a one-go lead, well, let's get Savoy out there for that face off, because we know he's going to make the right decision. He's been excellent since they've come back from the break. They also brought back Josh Samansky, just filling in that role, and he played in yesterday's game. What have you felt about his return to the Oilers lineup? Well, it's funny. After the second period last night, we talked, Brendan and I about Samansky, and I said, I want to see him more in the third period. Because what I'd seen through the first 40 minutes is a guy that is playing with confidence.

5:08There's one play in the second period. He picked the puck up in the offensive zone, went all the way through the entire zone on the outside, came around the far corner, and then makes it great past the offside defense in the Walmond. I mean, out of the kid that's confident. A lot of players, when they come up from the liners, they don't want the puck on their sick long. They don't, they're afraid to make a mistake, and when they are afraid to make a mistake, they don't get to show you what they're capable of. He looks confident. I'm sure being in the Olympics, playing with Leon's rights that are playing every game against the best in the world, I think that did him wonders. And in the game last night, now, I know he only got limited ice time. I think there's around eight minutes by the night's end, but I thought every time he stepped on the ice was a positive. Now, I don't know where he fits in as this season, you know, winds down to the playoffs. I mean, we'll find out more in the next 40 hours if they find another answer to the third line center, but I do think that what we've seen so far from Samansky shows that he is a guy that will be here next year, and he's a guy that's going to have a much bigger

6:14role as he grows older here in the soil team. He's showing really good things both with the puck, and especially at a young age without it. Yeah, I can't agree with you more. He's looking like a really solid potential power forward for this squad for the future. I want to talk about a negative. We saw Jake Walman not play in the third period of this game, and afterwards Chris Noblock said that he might have tweaked something, or there might have been an injury there, but Walman said in his avail today, he was told he wasn't playing, so I'm just curious on your thoughts on what just kind of happened there. Well, it's funny, as the period moved on, you know, just when Walman's not out during the third period. He's a big part of the Orders' defensive core. And then I said, well, obviously there's been a benching, something they didn't like in the first 40 minutes, but then you heard, okay, no, it was, you got a tweak, and I'm like, that's not normal. If someone's got a tweak, or if there's some sort of lingering thing that you don't want

7:17to be pushed, that player doesn't come back, go to the bench, that player goes immediately and gets treatment, so that you turn that tweak and do a 24 hour thing instead of a two week thing. So I was really surprised when they said it was injury related, but then Walman today said, no, no, that was more or less on my play. And I think as a player on a team, you want accountability, and you want accountability for everyone. Walman and Nurse haven't been as good as they're capable of. Walman on, I believe it was the third goal of the game last night, I'm sure they weren't happy with the way that went down, and was held accountable. And I mean, I like the fact it's won and done, you'll see him playing as regular, you know, 18 to 21 minutes next game, but a message has been sent, because right now this or the team, defensively, even with the win last night, defensively has not been as good as it needs to be. And messenger being sent by the coaching staff, so, I mean, every player, I would say that

8:20there's some superstars, like Conor Leon, every player at some point has been benched. Every player has been in the doghouse. We all have, it's how you respond from being a benching from, from, from being in the doghouse. That's what shows the type of character you have. I would imagine Walman will have a very strong game against the Carolina Hurricanes. It looks like we've got through to Bob here, so I'm going to step away. I mean, anytime you get someone new to your team, you want to see how they fit in, where they fit in with their capable of. Now, I mean, there's a lot of talk about how this is going to improve the team. And I think it will. But I think we all have to, you know, tap her expectations a little bit.

10:23I mean, he was playing 16 and a half minutes on a not a good Chicago Black Hawk team. So it's not Nicholas Lidstrom that the others are bringing in. But what they're bringing in is a guy who thinks defense first. And when you're a hockey team right now that is really, really struggling, keeping puffs out of your own net, making big mistakes, battling in the blue paint, it sometimes nice to have a player who that's their first thought. When you're a skilled player and I grew up, my whole career is an offensive player. The mental part of your brain, when you're in a hockey game, it's always thinking the offensive bonus on this play. The risk reward your thought is always, if I get this and you think that what I could do offensively, and sometimes that works so fantastic that every once in a while and we've seen a lot lately with the orders, some of the decision making has not turned out well for them. Well, when you have a defensive player, his first thought is, okay, I'm going to get

11:23the puck off the glass and out and I'll live till fight another day. This is the type of player that the orders need. And sometimes when you bring in a player who's very good defensively, not just first thought, not believed in the other players. And I think that's what will help the oilers is when they see a guy out there clearing the front of the net, not fishing for pucks, but literally moving players away and allowing the gold tender to find the puck himself. When they see a guy who's willing to block shots, when they see a guy who does something like put Colvin did last game, comes in and steps in and stands up for a teammate, that believes through your bench and your dressing room. I think that's why I'm looking forward to see what Murphy can do here because he's bringing something that a number of oilers players have in them, but we haven't seen it much this year. Well, the orders might not be done with Chicago. Elliott Friedman is put out on Twitter that the orders in Chicago are discussing another move that involves Jason Dickinson.

12:23Dickinson's at 4.4, the Hawks would have to retain, that would be their third retained spot. The oilers would have to have approval from Andrew Magiopani to wave his no movement plus. Magiopani is represented by Alanine Law. And I guess we'll see where this goes here. It would have to be a pretty good pick is my guest because of the negative trade equity with Andrew Magiopani. So again, this is not finalized yet, but Elliott Friedman is reporting that the oilers in the Hawks discussing another move. This one would see Jason Dickinson, a third line center, Dickinson, 49.5% in the face-off circle, 15.42, 15 minutes, 42 seconds per game, we had a 22-goal season, about three years ago with the Black Hawks, and we'll see if this ultimately does come to fruition. There's been a lot of movement. We've heard that potential McKenzie weager trade to Utah. That was Friedman as well. Frank Sarivali followed up with all the matter going to Calgary in that trade.

13:27It is believed that Taj Aguinala will not be a part of that trade. Of course, Jerome Aguinala involved with the flames and then Colt Baraco, nothing finalized yet. Jerry Johansson represents Colt and Baraco. If I was representing Colt Baraco, I would wave to go to the Buffalo savers. I think they're a pretty good team. It's funny. I've done a lot of events with Ryan Newton Hopkins, and I've done a couple times where we've done it on trade deadline. I was with him here that Tyson Barry got traded. So you're nervous as a player moving, because especially if you're in Emmett's and if you're in the group that plays every night, you don't want to move, because you feel something could happen in like Colorado player, Dallas player, Minnesota. You don't want to move, because you want to be a part of something special, but there's also, you don't want to lose a friend. And when I talk about Tyson Barry, he was a really good friend to a lot of guys in the team. So all of a sudden you lose a good friend, some of that you're whizing out with your kids play together. So it is a stressful time. It's more stressful for some than others. I know that fans and media love trade the whole week leading up to it, and they like

15:46moving guys, but these are human beings that have families that have, you know, set up shop here. They've got kids that go to school. They've got wives that are part of the community. So it is hard. Those trades you talked about, break will make Buffalo better. Buffalo is already good, break will make them better. McKenzie Uighur is having a tough year in Calgary. He's better than his season is. That will make Utah better and Utah has made some noise this year. So good on them. As for Dickinson, that's one day I've always blighted. I have whenever the oilers play against him. I don't know if it's just that he plays really good against the oilers and against Conor McDavid and enjoys that shutdown role, but he has had some really good games against the oilers over the past. So I think that would be a good move if the Amazon oilers were able to get him. Well, just a little lessers are aware and it's 520 in oil country, Bob Stopper with you. We'll work on the technical difficulties. We had a double app failure today from the Humble Stopper abode, but we will tell you

16:48this that the only way the oilers can make adjacent Dickinson trade work is if Andrew Majeopani is going the other way and that the hawks eat, retain, and they've got a third retained spot available, they'd have to retain 50% of Dickinson's steel. Majeopani has negative productivity. This is not like just trading a second for Dickinson. The only way this thing works is if monochibonies out in Dickinson is Dickinson's in and that means you're probably going to have to get up, you know, a pretty good pick. Now I wonder whether or not the oilers can grow the deal a little bit maybe out on another piece. So time will tell in that regard, but there is a catch here Rob and the catch is then the player physically that has the no movement class has to physically sign off on the deal. It's not just a verbal, it's not just a verbal. It's an actual physical signing off to wave the no movement class. So let me delay things a little bit different. It's crazy, right?

17:48In the here and now of Twitter and social media, right, same time, and I'll take you back to the July 1st of 2007, the Amazon oilers thought they had Michael Nielander signed. Michael's in the empty investors group had the team at the time. Kevin Low thought they had a commitment from Nielander's camp and it was a verbal agreement made from the agency and there was no sign off on the contract. And they waffled and that's it turned out the oilers probably talked to him there because as I recall, Nielander got bought out by the team and I'm excited. I think it was washing it. Anyhow, I think. That's what's going on right now. They can be there and now seeing that the trade has been done for break. Well, the trade has been done with legal ending the player approval. And I'm like, hey, what is it? The player is taking a moment with his family, but now that you say it, they have to sign off on it and you got to get them in there and write it down. They just kind of weird that in 2026, you can't face time someone and just look at them

18:54in the eyes and say, hey, you good for this? I'm good with this. But yeah, well, it's funny. I'm getting touched today. Is it true? The oilers are going to get Jason Robertson. I'm like, well, I bet. No, they're not. You're really good. I'm not sure why Dallas would trade their 40 goalscord to a team that's knocked the note the last two years. But yeah, go ahead and try and get that one going. So I'll just leave you with this before we go to break here, Rob. If I have to... The oilers have a 27 number one, okay? And you have Magia Pony, who's probably carrying at least a second to divest yourself with that contract. You might have to go as high as that to get a team to retain money on another player, but if you're going to do that, maybe get another prospector player as well. And you have history, obviously, already in I alluded to this with Pierre LeBron earlier today. Sometimes you start with one trade and it morphs into another trade with the same GM. So let's just see what happens over the course of the next, you know, four hours here.

19:58And again, you know, hold up. All this leads to two, Bob, is I know everybody in Edmonton is saying, okay, how are we going to be better by Friday's game from this trade deadline? And Murphy will make the others a bit better and Dickinson would make the others a bit better. But this oiler team, if it wants to go on a Stanley Cup run, it's got to be from within the dressing with the players they have. They have not played well enough this season defensively. So as much as you can improve your team and the Bowman is trying to do that, this is all on the guys in that dressing room right now. These are players that can help, but if you want to go on a run, it's based on how the players play in that dressing room and they can play much better than they've played this season. Rob?
